Essay About Writing Experience
Writing an essay on the topic of "Essay About Writing Experience" can be a paradoxical task. On
one hand, the subject seems familiar and personal, considering that it revolves around one's own
experiences in the realm of writing. However, delving into the intricacies of one's writing journey
can prove to be a complex and introspective process.
The difficulty arises from the need to strike a balance between self-reflection and objectivity.
While the essay requires a genuine exploration of personal experiences, it also demands a critical
analysis of how those experiences have shaped one's writing abilities. This requires a level of
detachment that can be challenging, as writers may find it hard to objectively evaluate their own
work and growth.
Additionally, the task involves navigating through the nuances of language, style, and tone to
effectively convey the evolution of one's writing prowess. Expressing the highs and lows of the
writing journey, along with the lessons learned, demands a nuanced approach to storytelling.
Striking the right chord between humility and self-assurance is another tightrope that writers
must walk.
Moreover, there is the ever-present challenge of avoiding clichГ©s and generic statements that
can dilute the impact of the essay. Crafting a unique narrative that stands out from the plethora
of similar stories requires creativity and a keen understanding of one's own writing voice.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of one's writing experience is a task that requires a
delicate blend of introspection, objectivity, creativity, and self-awareness. It is a challenging
endeavor that demands careful consideration of language and structure to effectively convey the
intricacies of a personal journey with the written word.

Cell Phone Use Essay
Cell phones popularity has grown exponentially in the last few years. Almost
every college student has a cell phone or smartphone. They are seen all over the
world and in every building. Cell phone use while driving has increased
exponentially in young adults over the past few years, many reasons such as
dependency and addiction can lead to this but there are also ways to try to limit
cell phone use by different sensors or helpful tips. Cell phone use has grown in
popularity in college students and young adults all over the world, because of this,
cell phones are being used more and more while driving. More and more college
students and young adults are getting smartphones and other cellphones, A recent
Australian survey found that 75% of mobile phone users now have smartphones;
this figure more than doubled between 2011 and 2014 and is expected to reach
91% by 2017 [6]. There are cell phones in every store or building whether they are a
customer s phone or an employee phone. In the research conducted 99.8% of the
participants owned a cell phone and 82.1% of them had their drivers licenses [1].
The large quantities of cell phones are causing large distractions in young driver s
lives. College students all over the world are being distracted by their cell phone
while they drive, Half of the participants reported having experienced one or more
near accidents when talking on their phone while driving (50%) and more than half
reported having such experiences while texting
The Daily Show End Times
The Daily Show is based on recent news stories, politics, pop culture and so on.
Actually, they try to describe news humorously. This episode named End times was
broadcast on June 10, 2009. For me, this show was highly effective because of the
theme selection. After watching this show, I realiazed even though we live in the age
of technology where we can find everything on internet, some people still live in an
old age. For example, people are still reading the newspaperin print, although now
you can read it online. The newspaper is quite an obsolete thing and I wonder why
people still pay for old mention of reading the news. For example, a correspondent
of The Daily Show, Jason Jones, asked a trick questions to the editor asking him to
Child Soldiers Research Paper
Today, children suffer serious human rights abuses and are victims of wars they do
not even understand. Militant forces target and forcefully recruit children through the
use of such weapons as torture and drugs. Members of the militant forces commit
gender based violence against women, and girls are forced into prostitution and
sexual slavery (Fonseka, p. 69). These are only some of the many abuses against
children. International law attempts to protect children from the effects and
inhumanity of armed conflicts. But, there is intentional victimization of children and
ignored their human rights. In the last decade, armed conflicts has killed over two
million children, disabled about five million children and left twelve million children
homeless.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today, children can use Modern weapons like the M16 and AK 47 just as effectively
as adults because weapons are inexpensive, light and simple enough for children to
carry and use. Further, children are drugged by the militant leaders in preparation for
conflicts. Children are transformed into soldiers and their childhood is taken away.
Some children choose to join militant groups, which contributes to the continuing use
of child soldiers. Poverty, the lack of education, and vulnerability are some reasons
why children take part in militia groups as a solution to these problems. Militant
groups become a surrogate family by providing food and shelter in exchange for
military training. The armed groups offered a type of kinship for children who had
lost their family in a chaotic world that they did not understand. Because they are
so young and vulnerable, they tend to be fearless, have not yet developed an adult
s sense of self defense, and are less able to assess the dangers of combat. Also,
children join militia groups in order to survive, defeat the feelings of helplessness,
sometime to seek vengeance or to protect their families or simply lack of a better
alternative. This last reason is important in order to understand the so called
voluntary recruitment of many children. What child volunteers simply seek, is a less
shaky alternative to an very unsafe

Influence of Greek and Roman Temples Essay
Greek and Roman temples are the most influential temples of all times. It is argued
that the Greek influenced the Romans and this may be the reason why their temples
are so alike. The Parthenon and the Pantheon are the most popular temples of both
eras. However, the Pantheon does not look like other roman temples would to Greek
temples and this is because it has interior space and thus has a completely different
composition. Despite their quite similar looks, Roman and Greek temples have
unique differences in material, method, purpose, and others.
The Parthenon, with no doubt, is one of the best well known Greek temples of all
times. It is also the dominant temple on the Akropolis. Its construction began in 447
BC and ended in 438 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Agrippa, Augustus right hand man, constructed this building as a temple to all the
gods; however, a fire destroyed this temple in 80 CE and so Domitian built the
reconstruction. The Pantheon we are familiar with has a significantly different
design than the original one, and this is why this specific temple is so dislike to the
rest of the Roman temples. Before it was burnt, the Pantheon stood in a podium at
the end of a large rectangular court. The surroundings of this temple have changed in
order to provide a unique experience to its visitors. For example, the temple has en
enormous dome with a 27 foot oculus that opens to the sky. This oculus lets a shaft of
light come through creating an emphasis wherever the reflection is. Visitors were
driven nowhere but to the light at the center of the dome. This building was built for
greeting foreign embassies, adjudicating disputes and hold court (Janson). Moreover,
the Pantheon is extraordinary because of the potential and strength of concrete. Some
other materials used in the process of building the temple include travertine, tufa,
brick, and pumice. These materials varied in order to reduce its weight. The colored
marble on the wall symbolized imperial authority. The sphere is though to symbolize
eternity and perfection and the bronze panels symbolized a starry night sky.
Greek and Roman temples are very similar in structure, however they have their
differences as well. Lets

The Moral Statutes Are Replaced The Bill Of Rights
After the war, things were never the same for Ember and her mother, Lori

running away from Chase multiple times as they are on their way to the

to escape the FBR and run off into the woods to find the second carrier, however;
along the way they meet a family who Chase and Ember had not realized were
good friends with the FBR. They would of been arrested if it weren t for Embers

The Christian Hell and the Greek Underworld
Since ancient civilizations people have been trying to explain what goes on after
death. Throughout history, many cultures have had different theories about what
happens. Two distinguished ideas of where people go after death are the
underworld and Hell. The idea of the underworld came from the Greeks and
Romans. A few famous works by the Greeks and Romans that talk about the
underworld are The Iliad, The Aeneid, and, The Odyssey. A famous work that
discusses Hellis Dante s Inferno. Hell is an accepted part of the Christianityreligion
and taught all over the world. The two beliefs are very similar but some distinct
differences can be seen.

In ancient Greek beliefs people were also judged when they were down in the
underworld. At the dividing road between Tartarus, a place of torture in the
underworld and the Isles of the Blest, a place for the good in the underworld, there
are the Plains of Judgment. Awaiting the souls in the Plain of Judgment are
Aeacus, Minos, and Rhadamanthys. These dead men, judge who goes to Tartarus,
who goes to the Isles of the Blest or back to the Asphodel Fields if they were neither
good or evil. These men were all sons of Zeus who were rewarded as judges in the
underworld by creating the first just laws on Earth. Aeacus was king of Aegina
during mortal life and was also known for making decisions for Zeus. After his death
he became keeper of the keys of Hades and the judge of men of Europe in the
Underworld. Minos was the King of Crete, and Rhadamanthys was his brother.
They both lived in Asia during their mortal lives. After his death, Rhadamanthys
became lord of the Isles of the Blest, and judge of the men of Asia. After Minos
died he gained the responsibility of having the final judgment. In The Odyssey,
Odysseus says And now there came before my eyes Minos, the son of Zeus,
enthroned, holding a golden staff, dealing out justice among ghostly pleaders
arrayed about the broad doorways of Death. . (XI. 640) The Greeks believed Minos
had a lot of power in the underworld. In Roman beliefs Rhadamanthus had control

A Literary Analysis Of Beowulf
Beowulf: A New Telling
Imagine if you will you are one of the king s bodyguard dining in a splendid hall
decked with gold and ivory, you are sitting next to your mighty king who is the
descent of a legendary man named Scyld Scefing, whose strength was unparalleled.
After the feast you head off and fall asleep only to wake up to your comrades being
slaughtered and eaten, you try to scream but a claw snags your throat and you die.
This is the setting for Beowulf an epic novel written hundreds of years ago. I would
recommend this book for older audiences as their is a considerable amount of
violence, however it has a good message.
Beowulf begins with the tale of Scyld Scefing who is found on a boat, only a small

Beowulf returns to his home land known as Geatland and helps his kingdom
through a series of wars. Finally, he becomes king. But soon the peace will be
disrupted. A slave escapes his master after being threatened with a beating and
hides in the mountains. He uncovers a hoard of gold filled with treasures from all
the princes of Geatland with a small lizard nearby after taking a priceless gold cup
the lizard turns into a menacing dragon, the Firedrake the Firedrake burns entire
villages. As it sleeps Beowulf now old and tired slays it by pouring bees into its
stomach. Then Beowulf dies and the Firedrake had snagged his throat with a claw.
Beowulf is not a typical hero he understands his shortcomings and strives to
become better. He knows everything is a mix of good and evil nothing is
completely good or bad. When beowulf is confronted by unferth who insists
beowulf drowned his best friend Breca instead of losing his cool beowulf calmy

other hand was calm, sober and
Much Ado About Nothing Themes
The Much Ado about Nothing , part of Shakespeare s First Folio released in 1623
,and later adapted into a film by Kenneth Branagh in 1993, was a comedic play set
within the 16th century, in Messina, Sicily. Prior to the story Don Pedro, also known
as The Prince had just come back from a war against his half brother John The
Bastard . Many universal themes and issues within Much Ado about Nothingas well
as other Shakespearian plays are still relevant in today s society as the themes of lies
and deception, manipulation and power as well as loveare all aspects of the human
condition and as such part of human nature. This includes: The importance of honour,
love and power and manipulation. Through the use irony, metaphor, symbolism and...

Shakespeare uses love for plot building as well as a means of tension within a
majority of his plays. The use of love is still relevant to modern age society.
Examples include Maybe the bull is, but if I am ever domesticated, you can take
the bull s horns and put them on my forehead, as my wife is sure to cuckold me
soon enough. (Benedick Act 1 Scene 1) through the use of metaphor and I ll swear
by my sword that you love me, too, and I ll make any man who says that I don t
love you eat it. (Benedick Act 4 Scene 1) through the use of pun and hyperbole.
During Elizabethan times bull baiting was used as a form of recreational
entertainment were bulls were either trapped or tied up and dogs were released to
attempt to attack its snout. Benedick is using the humiliation of the bull as a
comparison of the humiliation he would feel when the woman he married cheated
on him. This can be compared to modern society where the chance to cheat is only
a short drive away and rumours and gossip about such things spread fast and
efficiently. Benedick s use of pun and hyperbole in Much Ado About Nothing
gives us his view on other opinions about him and Beatrice. Through the idea of a
sword, we are given an image of Benedick both defending his love for Beatrice as
well as attacking people who slander it. This can be related to modern society were
one must both defend themselves as well as attack those who slander them in love
and marriage. Benedicks views give us a thorough understanding of Shakespeare s
view and understanding on love which is still evident in modern society. Through
the use of Benedick stubborn view on love can still Shakespeare shows an example
of the amount and severity a person changes when in love, whether in the past or
The Crowd A Study Of The Popular Mind Summary
Gustav Le Bon Charles Marie Gustav Le Bon was a sociologist, psychologist, and
physicist who is well known for his writing in each of these fields. Le Bon was a
witness to the actions of the French Commune, in the spring of 1871, what he
refers to as the French Convention in his essay The Crowd: A Study of the
Popular Mind. He was greatly influenced in what he saw during this revolutionary
uprising and analyzed the actions of crowds and the way they acted differently
than the individuals within them would (Wikipedia, n.d.). The individuals in the
crowd lose their conscience personality and adopt the thoughts and actions of the
psychological crowd. Le Bon points out that the size of a psychological crowd could
be as small as a half a dozen and as large as a nation, and the combined influence
driving them to act does not have to be negative, but could easily have a positive
vibe (Le Bon, 1926).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

sports game. Fans devastated by their favorite team s loss collectively began taking
their frustrations out on the environment around them. In this case, the crowd did not

I had practiced this break time and time again. It was my best break of all. Normally,

honey. You ll get it next time.
All that I could manage in response was a quick glance, a forced half smile, or a
simple nod. I knew that I couldn t speak. If I opened my mouth, all that would

absolutely refused to let my classmates and my students see me cry.

Essay on Taiwan Policy Memo
Maria Serpas

Dr. Kramer
March 19, 2015
Subject: What should US policy towards military assistance to Taiwan be?
Historical Background: Taiwan, otherwise known as the Republic of China (ROC),
has a complicated political status on the world stage. The People s Republic of China
(PRC) lays territorial claims to Taiwan and most countries recognize China as the
mainland as Taiwan as an autonomous region within it. However, Taiwan sees itself
independent as the true government of China, but only a couple dozen countries
recognize it as sovereign government and by technical definition of what constitutes
as a sovereign state under the Montevideo Convention of 1933, Taiwan fits the
criteria.1 Though before 1971, both countries laid ... Show more content on

Both economic and security threats are culminated in a general consensus that
weapons trade between both countries includes only defensive weapons.5 In 1994,
the policy towards Taiwan was reviewed, however no changes were made to the
arms sales policy.6 The military assistance the US provides Taiwan with, despite
being defensive in nature, is still a source of consternation to the PRC and is a
problem for its relations with both Taiwan and the US.
Significance:
Military assistance to Taiwan is essential for Taiwan s sense of security, but it is
also a source of friction with US relations with the PRC. Selling Taiwan an amount
of weapons that the PRC considers excessive may lead to increased tensions
between both the US and the PRC. Under the TRA, the US still has a degree of
obligation in ensuring Taiwanese security. It deems that if US assistance is
necessary to maintain peace in the Western Pacific and if Taiwan is forced to make a
decision regarding its statehood under non peaceful means the US will intervene in
Taiwan s affairs. Currently, this is limited to selling defensive weapons, but not
providing further military assistance or performing joint drills like those performed in
South Korea.
Positive trilateral relations are essential for US economic interests. By maintaining

My Personal Statement Of Basic Electrical Engineering
The knowledge grows exponentially. The more we know the greater our ability to
learn and the faster we expand our knowledge base. This statement by great
Novelist Dan Brown characterizes my belief. Ever since I was a child I was always
fascinated by Science and my interests drove me towards becoming an Engineer. As
I grew up I always made it a point that I learn something new from wherever possible.
My father, right from the start of his career, has been working in Electrical
Engineering and maintenance based companies. He always used to come up with
some photographs of huge transformers or generators which really fascinated me in
my childhood. Those photographs and his experiences were the reasons why I
selected Electrical Engineering as my B.Tech course.
On my first day of Engineering life, the lecture of Basic Electrical Engineering was
something that generated keen interest in my heart about this core field. Electrical

The Development And Development Of The Greek And
Greek Empire
The Roman Republic and Empire was one of the largest civilisations in the world.
A significant question posed is how and why did the Roman Republic and Empire
develop in the ways they did and interact with the Persian and Greek/Hellenic
Empires? At the height of the Roman Empire it spanned across western Europe,
and encompassed the entire Mediterranean. Lasting and developing through
thousands of years, the Romans encountered and interacted with the Persian and
Greek/Hellenic Empires. This included trading, co existing, and going to war with
one another. Although, originally the Roman Republic and Empire was first
founded by the Etruscan people. Established in 753 BCE by a Etruscan colony on
the River Tiber in Italy, the city was controlled by Etruscan Kings until 509 BCE.
Whence the people rose up against the monarchy to establish the Roman Republic,
and fought for control of central Italy for the next 30 years. (Dr David Lundberg,
2017, pp.6 7) Thus the Roman Republic became a contending force in Western
Europe, and across the Mediterranean for the next 450 years. (J.M.Roberts Odd
Arne Westad, 2013, p.218) Instead of a king, two consuls and an assembly of
elected magistrates were installed to rule the Roman Republic. Before a new set of
consuls, and new magistrates were elected by the citizens each year. Additionally,
legislative and consultative bodies were elected as Tribunes of the people, who
managed the affairs of the government and managed conflicts that arose
Pablo Picasso Influences
Pablo Picasso once stated, Colors, like features, follow the changes of emotions.
This quote explains how Picasso s work changed over the course of his life.
Picasso had several art periods in which anyone is able to see the change of both
colors and emotions in his works. For example, Picasso s Blue period showed his
melancholic emotions through blue tones, while during his Rose period he used
brighter red and pink tones showing his more happy emotions. Pablo Picassos works
expressed his emotions and depicted events throughout his life. Picasso s artwork
greatly influenced many people during his lifetime and he became even more
influential and revered for his artwork after his death.

Picasso himself even said, I started painting in blue when I learned of Casagemas
death. Another factor to the start of his blue period could have been the death of
his younger sister Conchita. Although she had died in 1895 when he was 14 it is
possible that the death of his good friend Casagemas brought to the surface his
unresolved feelings regarding the death of his sister during his youth. Many of
Picasso s paintings depicted a single subject with a plain background with dark
blue and grey tones during this time. His first painting, a Child with a Dove,
features those blue and grey somber tones. The painting features a child dressed in
white holding a dove to its chest with a colorful ball sitting on the floor. The child
is standing in an empty room blue walls and a green floor. The picture Picasso
painted could have been a depiction of his younger sister. The child in the picture is
dressed in white which could symbolize the innocence the child had and the dove
could symbolize peace that they received. The empty room could symbolize Picasso
s feelings about her death. The blue and grey colored walls could be explaining that
his thoughts surrounding his sister may be sorrowful but he knows that she is at
peace. These types sad paintings lasted until 1904 which was the year that ended the

Positive Influences
People become who they are based on the people around them. Whether it is
family, friends, teacher, or somebody from sports these people have an effect on
other s lives and help shape these people into the person they are today. The most
influential person in somebody s life should be a positive influence and therefore
teach them a valuable lesson. I have had many influences on me, but my biggest
influence came from my hockey coach, Glenn Rinyu. It was the beginning of last
season and the Plainview Hawks, my hockey team, had just finished their practice.
While the team was in the locker room, Coach Glenn asked James Surless and me to
go speak to him outside of the locker room. Coach Glenn told us that he was making

ultimate goal through research and development is to match the composition of

infant especially in the first six months. The protein component of breast milk
changes over time to facilitate the growth of the infant. Protein is the most important

How Did Greek Contribute To Art
Art was valued throughout Greece and a lot of time and resources were dedicated
towards the creation and study of art. Greece used art to enhance daily life. They
had built amazing structures that valued gods and showed how much potential
they had to become an empire. Building these statues and pyramids cost a lot of
money, needed lots of time and also needed loyal soldiers to build for them. The
Greeks also used pottery, painting and drawing for banquets or to honor great gods.
They thought it was important to honor the important events in their history such as
wars. Plays and poems were put on to showcase these major events. The Greeks
were very dedicated to art which had helped them become an empire and now the

How Is Hermia Different In A Midsummer Night s Dream
In A Midsummer Night s Dream by William Shakespeare, Helena and Hermia are
different in many ways. They are different in characteristics and actions. In addition,
they have a different lover. Moreover, Helena believes love is a child s play. In the
other hand, Hermia begs the differ. Hermiabelieves loveis worth pursuing till the end
of time. Helenas view for love is the opposite from Hermia for many reasons. Helena
s view of love is different than Hermia simply because of her background. She is
the one girl who ponders about the nature of love because she is not loved by
anyone. In fact, Helena believes love is a child s play because of this. Yet, when she
became loved by someone, Lysander and Demetrius, she truly believes that they are
mocking her. Because she spent so much time rationalizing why she is not loved, she
simply cannot understand or embrace love from someone. Therefore, she accused
Lysander and Demetrius of mockery when in fact, they loved her. She... Show more

Events Of The American Revolution
Events That Led to the American Revolution Throughout history there has been many
wars, some wars were fought for world domination and others were fought for
independence. One war that fought for independence was the American Revolution.
The American Revolution was fought between the colonists and the English with the
French aiding the colonists. There are many causes for the American Revolutionsome
of the causes are the French and Indian War, The Sugar and Stamp Act, The Boston
Massacre, The Boston Tea Party, and the Intolerable Acts.
The French and Indian War, also called Seven Years War, was a massive conflict
involving Austria, England, France, Great Britain, Prussia, and Sweden. The war
took place in Europe, India and North America. The English and French fought for the
total control of the colonies in North America, the Caribbean, and in India. While the
English ended up winning the war, they were left with a debt so enormous it almost
destroyed the British government. One of the ways the British government tried to
shrink their debt was by collecting taxes from the colonies in America. One of the
first taxes was the Sugar Act, which imposed taxes on sugar. Although resented, the
Sugar Act tax was hidden in the cost of import duties, and most colonist accepted it.
However, England was just getting started with colonial taxes.
By the following year, Parliament imposed the Stamp Act that required Americans to
pay duties directly to England, not to local
Twins Two Lives...One Personality
Twins Two LivesВ….One Personality What would it be like to have a twin? This
is a question people often ponder. People often say that they see someone that
resembles someone they already know. It is almost like dejavu. Twin comes from
the German word twine meaning two together (Nagy 1). Most people automatically
think of two people who look just alike when they hear the word twin . However,
there is a lot more to twins than just looking alike. Twins are the most common type
of multiple births. Many think there are only two types of twins, identical and
fraternal; they often leave out conjoined twins. Twins are very unique and fascinating
individuals because of their similarities biologically, physically, and psychologically.

According to Begley, identical twins are not always identical in behavior just
because of genes. Some studies show that when twins are given different
circumstances, for example, different educational opportunities, different results
are obtained. One example in Newsweek showed one twin may grow to be a
professional pianist while the other twin was not at all musical even though the
twins were both raised in a musical environment ( Heredity 69). Twins have
different interest from each other, and express them in individual ways. About
twenty five percent of identical twins show features of mirror imaging, a reversal
of patterns in twins that are most commonly detected when twins have opposite
handedness (Wright 119). Every set of mirror twins are not opposite handed.
Opposite handedness is one of the major forms of mirror imaging along with
opposite hair whirls and opposite birthmarks. In its mildest form, it can be a matter
of which side of the mouth the first tooth appears on. In a more dramatic form of
mirror imaging it can be when organs are actually found on the wrong side of their
bodies. Mirror imaging is found more frequently in conjoined twins, this has led
most researchers to conclude that mirror imaging is a characteristic of late
separation (Scheinfeld 56). It has been proven over and over by many professors,
doctors, and researchers that identical twins share a special bond. It is a
The Pros And Cons Of Direct Democracy In The United
States
Direct democracy is a government in which the people decide. Direct democracy
overall is a positive thing, but as with everything, there can be some dangers.
Direct democracy is a form of democracy in which the people are able to vote and
form consensus on policies directly. The people have the power of recall, which
gives the public the power to remove elected officials from office before the end of
their term if they do not feel they are doing a great job. California voters are also
able to help make laws by creating ballot propositions. Propositions are ideas voters
have for new laws or changes to the constitution. Direct democracyin California
started in the early 1900 s, when many citizens in California were unhappy with the
state government. The citizens then created a system of initiatives and referendums.
Initiative is a proposal for a new law and a referendum allows the citizens to vote for
or against a law that the state assembly has passed.... Show more content on

Direct democracy is supposed to promote a cooperative community, people have the
power to speak for their opinions. It promotes civic involvement and a meaningful
society where informed decisions are not just made by the government but by the
public as well. The citizens are able to learn the important information they need in
order to understand issues of the government and laws that are implemented. In a
direct democracy the people are able to feel that their voice matters and that if the
majority of the public is against a law or feels that a person in office is not living
up to what they said, they have the right to either fix the law or remove the person
from office. This feeling of a voice makes the public more willing to get involved

A Critical Evaluation of The Issue of Taking an Item from...
The act of stealing items from work can be considered as a crime under criminal
statute. The theft act 1968 states that a person is guilty of committing a crime of theft
if that person dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the
intention of permanently depriving . In saying that the four main criminological
presepectives, which include: classical, positivist, interactionist critical criminology,
interpret the act of stealing an item from work differently. Ultimately, the issue of
taking items from work is important as the idea of what constitutes stealing from
work can be blurry. Throughout this essay comparatives and differences on each
perspective will be discussed in terms of human nature, social order, how they... Show

Therefore, there is support for the idea that crime is inevitable within society, as it is
human nature to have a consistent desire to satisfy individual aspirations, which is
outweighed by their individual means (Lawson and Heaton, 1999).
Critical criminology is an adaptation of interactionist criminology, however critical
criminology focuses on the political aspects. It similarly suggests that individuals
engage in meaningful activity, which can be defined as criminal by other outside
members (Burke 2009). These outside members are usually those with political
status. However, it is definitive on the idea that every individual is responsible for
their own actions (Lawson and Heaton 1998). Left realism similarly focus on the
determined human nature of the working class as a result of relative deprivation
(Young 2002) however, they reject the idea that offenders are victims of society
(Jones 2006). Ultimately the focus of left realists is how human nature is affected by
the real fear of crime (Burke, 2009).
In sum, classical theorists would agree that the act of stealing an item from work is
breaking the social contract between society and the government by satisfying the
grounds of breaking the law (Lanier and Henry 2010). Classical criminology states
that individuals agree to join together to form a society in a social contract,
Benefits Of Year Round Schooling
Is Year Round Schooling A Better Option Than Regular Schooling? Year round
schooling is better than regular school because, it allows the kids to retain more
information and not lose what they learned, they also allow them to graduate
earlier with higher retention levels. In discussion of Year Round Schooling, one
controversial issue has been whether year round schooling is a good idea or not.
People believe that year round schooling is a good thing and that it will increase
academic achievement levels and benefit the students more than anything else.
Students will also be able to advance more quickly since the schooling is year
round, they have less to forget since the breaks are shorter. On the other hand people
seem to believe that year round schooling takes away from the students and gives
them less family time and less of an Outside of school life (NEA). In the research of
year round schooling it shows that absences are most likely to be higher since it is
year round. Their view is that we think that many students can benefit from year
round schooling, and that is has more benefits than anything else. Dr. Matthew Lynch
from, Education New states that, Students tend to forget a lot during summer break,
so a shorter time away from school might increase retention rates (Watson). Dr.Lynch
is saying that having a shorter summer break will tend more to the students, because
they will remember and learn more than what a student who has the whole summer
off.
The American International Bank Case
THE AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL BANK CASE
* Summary of the Situation
Tamara Long sat in her office reflecting on the tough past 6 weeks. She was the head
of the international department at the American International Bank (AIB). Six weeks
ago, the Chairman of the bank had called Tamara into his office. A bulletin had just
come over the bank s wire indicating that a military coup had taken place in Portugal.
The bulletin also reported that the new military dictator had frozen all foreign assets
in Portugal and had imposed strict currency controls to keep capital from fleeing the
country. When the Chairman heard about this, he asked Tamara a perfectly logical
question:

She had complete confidence in their judgment and was kept informed through
monthly reports as well as phone conversations on any major transactions. Tamara
made semiannual visits to all the branches and quite often would accompany the
CEOs of major clients when they went abroad to arrange for mergers or acquisitions.
During these trips, Tamara made sure that the local branch manager accompanied her
on all client visits. Once every quarter, each branch manager visited headquarters in
New York to review clients, discuss plans, and exchange ideas. Tamara would try to
schedule these meetings so that as many managers as possible would be in New York
at the same time. This afforded a chance for the managers to meet and to exchange
information about mutual clients. All in all, the working environment at AIB was
competitive but cordial, and there was a feeling of trust and mutual respect among
management personnel.
Each of the branches had a computer. These ranged in size from an IBM 4300 system
at the London office to minicomputers in all the other offices. London was the most
automated of the overseas offices; it was the largest, and it also had a thriving trust
operation and a merchant banking business (securities transactions). The other offices
used their computers to maintain branch financial records, bank ledgers, and
information needed to prepare government regulatory reports. Other than monthly

advice to his actors on how to perform on stage. He advises them to not saw the air

or realistic. Hamlet doesn t believe that over exaggeration belongs in plays because
all they are doing is entertaining the lower class who are capable of nothing but
inexplicable dumb shows and noise. He believes that your main audience should

she was the reason why he needed to murder her husband and father in law. In the
process of making her believe this farfetched lie, he is eventually able to make her

working with Pop Warner was a large influence in his decision to choose Stanford
but it could also be the master s program in psychology that he is enrolled in

themselves in a three point stance and then after the signal is used, players are to

players are tested using different methods of calling signals. Graves has commented

A Brief Note On Diabetes And Its Effects On Diabetes Essay
Diabetes Policy This paper focuses on people with diabetes. Diabetes occurs when
there is impaired ability by the pancreas to produce enough insulin, or the body
loses its ability to utilize the insulin produced by pancreas effectively.
Consequently, the body fails to regulate the level of glucose in the blood. The
failure to control glucose leads to episodes of hyperglycemia, especially after a
meal. Diabetes is one of the chronic conditions that account for the largest
morbidity rates globally. According to the Centres for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) (2015), approximately 29.1 million people living in the United
States had diabetes. Out of this number, about 21.0 million people were diagnosed.
The remaining 8.1 million cases were undiagnosed. According to the World Health
Organization (2016), the prevalence of diabetes among adults aged over 18 years
was 8.5% in 2014. The prevalence had increased from 4.7% in 1980 to 8.5% in
2014. The increased has been most significant among the middle and low income
countries. This has mostly been explained by the changes in income distribution in
those countries. In other words, the proportion of people who have had an increase
of revenue has increased significantly in the middle and low income countries.
People with diabetes lack the ability to regulate the level of glucose in the blood.
Consequently, whenever they eat, their blood glucose level rises above the normal
maximum limit leading to hyperglycemia. Poorly controlled
Four Levels Of Defense In The Trial Of Socrates
The trial of Socrates often referred to as the Apology of Socrates was a defense
speech made by Socrates against the accusations that have been made against him. In
his speech, Socrates targets the jurors, the judge, and all of the spectators in the
crowd. There are two sets of accusations made against Socrates. There are the
original, older accusations and the current or newer accusations. Socrates uses his
wisdom to attempt to show the jurors, and his fellow Athenians that these
accusations are false and that he is innocent. First, we must look at what Socrates is
defending. There are four levels of defense that we see in the Apology. The first is
that Socrates is defending himself against his fellow Athenians. Since, Socrates is a
philosopher, then he is in fact defending philosophy as well. Socrates student Plato,
who accounts the Apology is defending his mentor as well, so he is in fact
defending philosophy with future generations in mind. The Apology is not only
about Socrates defending himself, but it is also about Socrates defending
philosophy and keeping it alive for future generations. Socrates starts his defense
speech by addressing the audience. He explains to the audience the manner of the
Socratic speech. He tells them that his speech may not be as persuasive as his
accusers , but it will be the truth. He tells his audience to look past the mere
appearances and to focus on the reality. Although his accusers may have a very
persuasive speech, it is false. He
Incidents of the Life of a Slave Girl
In Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl , Harriet Jacobs writes, Slavery is terrible for
men; but it is far more terrible for women (64). Jacobs work presents the evils of
slavery as being worse in a woman s case due to the tenets of gender identity. Jacobs
elucidates the disparity between societal dictates of what the proper roles were for
Nineteenth century women and the manner that slaveryprevented a woman from
fulfilling these roles. The book illustrates the double standard of for white women
versus black women. Harriet Jacobs serves as an example of the female slave s desire
to maintain the prescribed virtues but how her circumstances often prevented her
from practicing.

Jacobs will not allow it to totally destroy her sense of self as a woman. While she
has suffered abuse and harassment and the hands of Dr. Flint, Jacobs remained
determined that Flint would not succeed at last in trampling his victim under his
feet, (46). As she is not permitted purity, Jacobs decided to take a white lover. If she
were to be forced to give up her purity it would be at least . ..to a man who is not
married... It seems less degrading to give one s self, that to submit to compulsion
(47). The quotes show Jacobs recognition of the sanctity of marriage has well
certain personal standards. Jacobs possesses a sense of self, she feels that she
deserves to choose her own lover. Regarding her lover she wrote,
There is something akin to freedom in having a lover who has no control over you
except that which he gains by kindness... The wrong does not seem so great with an
unmarried man, as with one who has a wife to be made unhappy (47).
Jacobs used her own sexuality as a defense, since keeping her physical purity, a right
to other women, had been denied to her. By choosing an unattached man, Jacobs

that identied various groups in a population. He was keen to nd out the dierences

loans, a method which is still utilised till date [1]. Credit unworthiness has always
been a problem encountered by the nancial sectors as they are faced with lapses
regarding the credit they oer to individuals and corporate bodies. The credit obtained
from nancial sectors is sometimes not repaid. To minimise the risk of unpaid credit,
nancial sectors have devised a number of techniques to mitigate this risk. One of such
techniques discussed in the latter part of this report, is credit scoring. Credit
Cuurare Culture
Curare, or Chondrodendron Tomentosum, is a plant extract from Central and South
America. The extract serves as a poison that has traditionally been used by South
American indigenous peoples to aid in hunting efforts. By dipping arrows in poison,
the hunter could then hunt for food by slowly poisoning it s prey through
asphyxiation. Intuitively, eating a poisoned animal would be unwise, but the toxins
in the Curare do not remain in the body. White Europeans took note of this unique
property, and in the 1940s modern science had transformed this lethal poison into an
effective anesthesia and muscle relaxant (Betcher 1977). Since then, pharmaceutical
companies in the United Stateshave patented and made massive profits from Curare
while the indigenous... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, since the late 1990s, we have seen an increasing number of voices come
forward and begin the debate on what mechanisms are needed to reverse cultural
appropriation of indigenous intellectual property such as with Curare. Among the
topics at hand, there is one major debate that has taken precedence over the others:
should the right to resources and knowledge be vested in individual, communities, or
the state? By vesting rights to intellectual property in the individual, i.e. companies,
we reach a state where the interest of the stakeholder overshadows the indigenous
people occurs, and the indigenous people become marginalized as we see currently.
Vesting rights in the community are a step forward, yet local communities do not
always put the native population s best interests first and are usually the facilitating
forces in cultural appropriation as they allow explicit access to resources in exchange
for short term monetary gain. Finally, state or government vesting of intellectual
property rights provides the most stable, safest form of protection against the
appropriation. State control ensures that intellectual property, as long as the state is
not overtly corrupt, will be appropriated to the right groups of people such as the
indigenous South Americans. Secondly, state ownership of intellectual property
provides a stable basis for defense against other nations attempting to steal ideas, such
is the case with Curare. On the other hand, state control of intellectual property is
often bureaucratic which can be obstructing to resource conservation due to its slow
reaction to create regulation (Ziff 1997). Regardless of what happens at a national
level and below, the creation of international groups to unite
Why Is Lacrosse Important
Lacrosse
Got your help!!!!!! That s what lacrosse players say the majority of the time when
playing lacrosse. They say this when they are open for a pass or want the ball. The
sport of lacrosse should be in the olympics. To support my position I will Give you a
description of the game, the popularity of the game and finally a counterarguement
that I will fight.
In this paragraph I will give you a desription of the game of lacrosse. First according
to the article named lacrosse the sport is played on a field 60 70 yards x 110 yards.
This proves useful because it means it can be played on a soccer field that is
already made. All you would have to do would be to add 5 yard extensions to each
end of the field. The next reason is based on the time length of the game. According
to the article titled NCAA Rules for Men s Lacrosse there is four 15 minute quarters
and a 10 minute halftime with 2 minutes in between every quarter. It also has a
overtime of 4 minutes but can go on longer if there is still a tie. That means it has a
total time of 78 minutes including everything except the time after the overtime. That
is shorter than a soccer game in the olympics. So basically it would nt take up much
time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the article titled History of Lacrosse it is one of the world s fastest
growing sports with 500,000 players. This means that it would draw big crowds if
it were in the olympics which means more profits for the people running the
olympics and for people with businesses near where they are hosting the olympics.
Next according to the article titled National Lacrosse Participation Grows 3.5 Percent
in 2014 they said that in the International Lacrosse World Championship, 38 countries
played. This means that by the time it is an olympic sport we will probably fill the
number of required countries that compete in a summer olympic
Truancy in America
ABSTRACT:
Truancy is the first sign that a youngster is giving up and losing his or her way.
Research shows that students who become truant and eventually drop out of school
put themselves at a long term disadvantage in becoming productive citizens.
Dropouts are more likely to be on welfare or unemployed than high school graduates.
High truancy rates are also linked to high daytime burglary rates, vandalism, and
juvenile gang activity. In some cities, unexcused absences can number in the
thousands daily. Combating truancy is a way for communities to reach out quickly to
disaffected young people and help families struggling with rebellious teenagers. This
guide offers parents, school officials, law enforcement agencies, and ... Show more

Kinder, Wakefield and Wilkin (1996) report on interviews with 160 children in Year
7 and above. For the children, the main causes of truancy and disruption are
described (in rank order) as:
The influence of friends and peers, who are seen encouraging truancy as a status
seeking activity or as a way of joining in or blending in, and sometimes teasing or
goading the child into truanting
Relationships with teachers, seen as lacking respect/fairness
The content and delivery of the curriculum, seen as lacking in relevance and stimulus
Family factors, either parental attitudes or family problems
Bullying; and
The classroom context, either because of teachers inability to control, or problems
arising from the child s own personality or learning abilities.
The authors note the preponderance of boys in their sample, perhaps reflecting the
gender bias of disaffected behavior , but their interviewees range from the
permanently excluded to those whose behavior or attendance was just beginning to
cause the school concern.
The views of professionals in schools and Education Welfare Services collected and
analyzed by Kinder, Harland, Wilkin and Wakefield (1995) also include personal
factors, family and community factors and school factors amongst the causes of
truancy. Individual factors included: lack of self esteem/social skills/confidence;
poor peer relations; lack of academic ability; special needs; and lack of

An Explanation of the Scientific Importance of the Human Genome Project
The human genome project is an international effort that serves as a possible
solution to the many diseases that affect billions of people worldwide. This project
is a great milestone in the field of genetics as it allows scientists to determine the
sequence of genes in chromosomes which will show where disease causing
mutations are occurring and what can be done to reverse it. Looking back in time,
many of the diseases which could be cured were done by administering drugs and
certain types of therapies. As the complexity of technology as well as advancements
in the understanding of our bodies increased, more diseases became curable through
these very drugs and therapies. However, many times individuals find it hard to deal
with the side effects that these solutions create. The human genome project aims to
make disease and illnesses curable more efficiently and to become readily available to
individuals throughout the world. It is therefore necessary the that society begins to
accept this project as the new frontier in medical treatment and prevention of diseases.
By having a greater investment and understanding in the Human genome Project, the
scientific community will determine more information about DNA to develop
treatment plans, prevention methods, and develop cures to diseases that affect
humans; thus yielding medically important information for society. When attempting
to understand what the
Minnesota Timberwolves Case Study Chicago Bulls
NBA rumors are swirling around the basketball circle that Minnesota
Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau wants to have a least one familiar face
to his new team. The new Minnesota head coach is planning to pursue free agent
Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah this summer, a reliable source told the Sporting
New. Noah will become a free agent this offseason, and despite the fact that the
former Florida Gator s star isn t at his peak anymore, he could still draw lots of
attention. Noah s current NBA team, the Chicago Bulls, wants to keep him but the
Minnesota is also interested in him.
Sources said that Thibodeau is keen on signing on Joakim Noah, who is an
unrestricted free agent and has an interest in leaving Chicago and re joining
Thibodeau. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tayshun Prince has proved to be ineffective while its big man Kevin Garnett is still
on the injury list. That s where Joakim Noah, comes in, to provide some veteran
leadership on board. According to Sporting News, the Minnesota, with the help of
their new coach Tom Thibodeau, has now thrown a plan on pursuing the Chicago
Bulls center. Reports said that the team is preparing a pitch for Noah this summer,
and it s now in hot pursuit of its target.
The 31 years old center has spent his entire nine year NBA career with the Chicago
Bulls, where he played under Tom Thibodeau from 2010 to 2015. At that time,
Noah was seen as the heart and soul of the Chicago Bulls. Thibodeau knows him
very well in and out of the court, so the former Bulls coach will have no problem
dealing with him once he gets on board.
The former Florida Gator is likely to have a key role in the new Minnesota team
considering the new coach Thibodeau loves defense, which is what Noah does train
for. Noah won t be the most coveted free agent on the market today, but Noah will
still draw lots of attention the court and become one of the most interesting players to

Harrison Bergeron Analysis
Imagine sitting on a cliff looking down on By the Waters of Babylon and smelling
the wreckage of the atomic bomb being set off and burning balls that are moving
around in the atmosphere. The technology in this story helped the world develope,
then the bomb was set off and they went backwards in time to living like cavemen
and in tribes. This is similar to the story Harrison Bergeron, in this story Harrison was
taken away from his mother and father from the FBI because he was breaking the
law by not wearing his handicaps that make him the standard equality. In the story
Harrison Bergeron the author tells the story. In Harrison Bergeron has something
different in society, if you are to pretty or have more beauty than others, you have
to wear a mask, or if you are too smart you have to wear ear buzzers so you can t
think and be as smart as you use to be. In the year of 2081 you can not be yourself.
They weren t only equal before God and lot. They were equal every which way.
Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody
else nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else (38). You are the same as
the lowest person. The story Harrison Bergeron people could not achieve anything
at all, the people who are successful and are making good money and have a good
life they are the same as someone else. They also lost all their freedom in the story
By the Waters of Babylon the freedom is something a little different the Harrison

Essay About Writing Experience. My Experience with Education Free Essay Example

  • 1. Essay About Writing Experience Writing an essay on the topic of "Essay About Writing Experience" can be a paradoxical task. On one hand, the subject seems familiar and personal, considering that it revolves around one's own experiences in the realm of writing. However, delving into the intricacies of one's writing journey can prove to be a complex and introspective process. The difficulty arises from the need to strike a balance between self-reflection and objectivity. While the essay requires a genuine exploration of personal experiences, it also demands a critical analysis of how those experiences have shaped one's writing abilities. This requires a level of detachment that can be challenging, as writers may find it hard to objectively evaluate their own work and growth. Additionally, the task involves navigating through the nuances of language, style, and tone to effectively convey the evolution of one's writing prowess. Expressing the highs and lows of the writing journey, along with the lessons learned, demands a nuanced approach to storytelling. Striking the right chord between humility and self-assurance is another tightrope that writers must walk. Moreover, there is the ever-present challenge of avoiding clichГ©s and generic statements that can dilute the impact of the essay. Crafting a unique narrative that stands out from the plethora of similar stories requires creativity and a keen understanding of one's own writing voice. In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of one's writing experience is a task that requires a delicate blend of introspection, objectivity, creativity, and self-awareness. It is a challenging endeavor that demands careful consideration of language and structure to effectively convey the intricacies of a personal journey with the written word. For those seeking assistance with similar essays or any other writing challenges, there are resources available. • 2. Cell Phone Use Essay Cell phones popularity has grown exponentially in the last few years. Almost every college student has a cell phone or smartphone. They are seen all over the world and in every building. Cell phone use while driving has increased exponentially in young adults over the past few years, many reasons such as dependency and addiction can lead to this but there are also ways to try to limit cell phone use by different sensors or helpful tips. Cell phone use has grown in popularity in college students and young adults all over the world, because of this, cell phones are being used more and more while driving. More and more college students and young adults are getting smartphones and other cellphones, A recent Australian survey found that 75% of mobile phone users now have smartphones; this figure more than doubled between 2011 and 2014 and is expected to reach 91% by 2017 [6]. There are cell phones in every store or building whether they are a customer s phone or an employee phone. • 3. The Daily Show End Times The Daily Show is based on recent news stories, politics, pop culture and so on. Actually, they try to describe news humorously. This episode named End times was broadcast on June 10, 2009. For me, this show was highly effective because of the theme selection. After watching this show, I realiazed even though we live in the age of technology where we can find everything on internet, some people still live in an old age. For example, people are still reading the newspaperin print, although now you can read it online. The newspaper is quite an obsolete thing and I wonder why people still pay for old mention of reading the news. For example, a correspondent of The Daily Show, Jason Jones, asked a trick questions to the editor asking him to
  • 4. Child Soldiers Research Paper Today, children suffer serious human rights abuses and are victims of wars they do not even understand. Militant forces target and forcefully recruit children through the use of such weapons as torture and drugs. Members of the militant forces commit gender based violence against women, and girls are forced into prostitution and sexual slavery (Fonseka, p. 69). These are only some of the many abuses against children. International law attempts to protect children from the effects and inhumanity of armed conflicts. But, there is intentional victimization of children and ignored their human rights. In the last decade, armed conflicts has killed over two million children, disabled about five million children and left twelve million children homeless.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Today, children can use Modern weapons like the M16 and AK 47 just as effectively as adults because weapons are inexpensive, light and simple enough for children to carry and use. Further, children are drugged by the militant leaders in preparation for conflicts. Children are transformed into soldiers and their childhood is taken away. Some children choose to join militant groups, which contributes to the continuing use of child soldiers. Poverty, the lack of education, and vulnerability are some reasons why children take part in militia groups as a solution to these problems. Militant groups become a surrogate family by providing food and shelter in exchange for military training. The armed groups offered a type of kinship for children who had lost their family in a chaotic world that they did not understand. Because they are so young and vulnerable, they tend to be fearless, have not yet developed an adult s sense of self defense, and are less able to assess the dangers of combat. Also, children join militia groups in order to survive, defeat the feelings of helplessness, sometime to seek vengeance or to protect their families or simply lack of a better alternative. This last reason is important in order to understand the so called voluntary recruitment of many children. What child volunteers simply seek, is a less shaky alternative to an very unsafe

  • 6. Influence of Greek and Roman Temples Essay Greek and Roman temples are the most influential temples of all times. It is argued that the Greek influenced the Romans and this may be the reason why their temples are so alike. The Parthenon and the Pantheon are the most popular temples of both eras. However, the Pantheon does not look like other roman temples would to Greek temples and this is because it has interior space and thus has a completely different composition. Despite their quite similar looks, Roman and Greek temples have unique differences in material, method, purpose, and others. The Parthenon, with no doubt, is one of the best well known Greek temples of all times. It is also the dominant temple on the Akropolis. Its construction began in 447 BC and ended in 438 ... Agrippa, Augustus right hand man, constructed this building as a temple to all the gods; however, a fire destroyed this temple in 80 CE and so Domitian built the reconstruction. The Pantheon we are familiar with has a significantly different design than the original one, and this is why this specific temple is so dislike to the rest of the Roman temples. Before it was burnt, the Pantheon stood in a podium at the end of a large rectangular court. The surroundings of this temple have changed in order to provide a unique experience to its visitors. For example, the temple has en enormous dome with a 27 foot oculus that opens to the sky. This oculus lets a shaft of light come through creating an emphasis wherever the reflection is. Visitors were driven nowhere but to the light at the center of the dome. This building was built for greeting foreign embassies, adjudicating disputes and hold court (Janson). Moreover, the Pantheon is extraordinary because of the potential and strength of concrete. Some other materials used in the process of building the temple include travertine, tufa, brick, and pumice. These materials varied in order to reduce its weight. The colored marble on the wall symbolized imperial authority. The sphere is though to symbolize eternity and perfection and the bronze panels symbolized a starry night sky. Greek and Roman temples are very similar in structure, however they have their differences as well. Lets

Throughout history, many cultures have had different theories about what happens. Two distinguished ideas of where people go after death are the underworld and Hell. Aeacus was king of Aegina during mortal life and was also known for making decisions for Zeus. After his death he became keeper of the keys of Hades and the judge of men of Europe in the Underworld. Minos was the King of Crete, and Rhadamanthys was his brother. They both lived in Asia during their mortal lives. After his death, Rhadamanthys became lord of the Isles of the Blest, and judge of the men of Asia. After Minos died he gained the responsibility of having the final judgment. In The Odyssey, Odysseus says And now there came before my eyes Minos, the son of Zeus, enthroned, holding a golden staff, dealing out justice among ghostly pleaders arrayed about the broad doorways of Death. . Much Ado About Nothing Themes The Much Ado about Nothing , part of Shakespeare s First Folio released in 1623 ,and later adapted into a film by Kenneth Branagh in 1993, was a comedic play set within the 16th century, in Messina, Sicily. Prior to the story Don Pedro, also known as The Prince had just come back from a war against his half brother John The Bastard . Many universal themes and issues within Much Ado about Nothingas well as other Shakespearian plays are still relevant in today s society as the themes of lies and deception, manipulation and power as well as loveare all aspects of the human condition and as such part of human nature. Shakespeare uses love for plot building as well as a means of tension within a majority of his plays. The use of love is still relevant to modern age society. Examples include Maybe the bull is, but if I am ever domesticated, you can take the bull s horns and put them on my forehead, as my wife is sure to cuckold me soon enough. (Benedick Act 1 Scene 1) through the use of metaphor and I ll swear by my sword that you love me, too, and I ll make any man who says that I don t love you eat it. (Benedick Act 4 Scene 1) through the use of pun and hyperbole. During Elizabethan times bull baiting was used as a form of recreational entertainment were bulls were either trapped or tied up and dogs were released to attempt to attack its snout. Benedick is using the humiliation of the bull as a comparison of the humiliation he would feel when the woman he married cheated on him. This can be compared to modern society where the chance to cheat is only a short drive away and rumours and gossip about such things spread fast and efficiently. Benedick s use of pun and hyperbole in Much Ado About Nothing gives us his view on other opinions about him and Beatrice. Through the idea of a sword, we are given an image of Benedick both defending his love for Beatrice as well as attacking people who slander it. This can be related to modern society were one must both defend themselves as well as attack those who slander them in love and marriage. Benedicks views give us a thorough understanding of Shakespeare s view and understanding on love which is still evident in modern society. The Crowd A Study Of The Popular Mind Summary Gustav Le Bon Charles Marie Gustav Le Bon was a sociologist, psychologist, and physicist who is well known for his writing in each of these fields. Le Bon was a witness to the actions of the French Commune, in the spring of 1871, what he refers to as the French Convention in his essay The Crowd: A Study of the Popular Mind. He was greatly influenced in what he saw during this revolutionary uprising and analyzed the actions of crowds and the way they acted differently than the individuals within them would (Wikipedia, n.d.). The individuals in the crowd lose their conscience personality and adopt the thoughts and actions of the psychological crowd. Le Bon points out that the size of a psychological crowd could be as small as a half a dozen and as large as a nation, and the combined influence driving them to act does not have to be negative, but could easily have a positive vibe (Le Bon, 1926).... Fans devastated by their favorite team s loss collectively began taking their frustrations out on the environment around them. In this case, the crowd did not resort to violence towards each other but attacked the buildings and symbols of authority in the downtown core. The members of this crowd were doing things and behaved in ways that they would not have as individuals. Years later when the police had compiled extensive video footage they were able to press charges against some of the worst perpetrators in the riot, and some of them turned out to be honor students and office workers, not your typical thugs (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, 2014, June

I stared at the boards in front of me. My head was spinning, and my mind was racing. I couldn t believe I had missed that break. I had practiced this break time and time again. It was my best break of all. Normally, my foot went through the board like a hot knife through butter. I could break double boards with that sidekick and not blink an eye or break a sweat. With a clouded head, I silently took my seat at the back of the room with all of the other candidates. I felt soft pats on the back and heard whispers in my ear: It ll be okay, honey. You ll get it next time. All that I could manage in response was a quick glance, a forced half smile, or a simple nod. I knew that I couldn t speak. If I opened my mouth, all that would come out would be sobs. Even if I didn t have my rank, I still had my pride, and I absolutely refused to let my classmates and my students see me cry. • 15. Essay on Taiwan Policy Memo Maria Serpas PSCI 356 Dr. Kramer March 19, 2015 Subject: What should US policy towards military assistance to Taiwan be? Historical Background: Taiwan, otherwise known as the Republic of China (ROC), has a complicated political status on the world stage. The People s Republic of China (PRC) lays territorial claims to Taiwan and most countries recognize China as the mainland as Taiwan as an autonomous region within it. However, Taiwan sees itself independent as the true government of China, but only a couple dozen countries recognize it as sovereign government and by technical definition of what constitutes as a sovereign state under the Montevideo Convention of 1933, Taiwan fits the criteria.1 Though before 1971, both countries laid ... Significance: Military assistance to Taiwan is essential for Taiwan s sense of security, but it is also a source of friction with US relations with the PRC. Selling Taiwan an amount of weapons that the PRC considers excessive may lead to increased tensions between both the US and the PRC. Under the TRA, the US still has a degree of obligation in ensuring Taiwanese security. It deems that if US assistance is necessary to maintain peace in the Western Pacific and if Taiwan is forced to make a decision regarding its statehood under non peaceful means the US will intervene in Taiwan s affairs. Currently, this is limited to selling defensive weapons, but not providing further military assistance or performing joint drills like those performed in South Korea. Positive trilateral relations are essential for US economic interests. By maintaining positive

Therefore, there is support for the idea that crime is inevitable within society, as it is human nature to have a consistent desire to satisfy individual aspirations, which is outweighed by their individual means (Lawson and Heaton, 1999). Critical criminology is an adaptation of interactionist criminology, however critical criminology focuses on the political aspects. It similarly suggests that individuals engage in meaningful activity, which can be defined as criminal by other outside members (Burke 2009). These outside members are usually those with political status. However, it is definitive on the idea that every individual is responsible for their own actions (Lawson and Heaton 1998). • 35. A Brief Note On Diabetes And Its Effects On Diabetes Essay Diabetes Policy This paper focuses on people with diabetes. Diabetes occurs when there is impaired ability by the pancreas to produce enough insulin, or the body loses its ability to utilize the insulin produced by pancreas effectively. Consequently, the body fails to regulate the level of glucose in the blood. The failure to control glucose leads to episodes of hyperglycemia, especially after a meal. Diabetes is one of the chronic conditions that account for the largest morbidity rates globally. According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2015), approximately 29.1 million people living in the United States had diabetes. Out of this number, about 21.0 million people were diagnosed. The remaining 8.1 million cases were undiagnosed. According to the World Health Organization (2016), the prevalence of diabetes among adults aged over 18 years was 8.5% in 2014. The prevalence had increased from 4.7% in 1980 to 8.5% in 2014. The increased has been most significant among the middle and low income countries. This has mostly been explained by the changes in income distribution in those countries. In other words, the proportion of people who have had an increase of revenue has increased significantly in the middle and low income countries. People with diabetes lack the ability to regulate the level of glucose in the blood. Consequently, whenever they eat, their blood glucose level rises above the normal maximum limit leading to hyperglycemia. Poorly controlled
  • 36. Four Levels Of Defense In The Trial Of Socrates The trial of Socrates often referred to as the Apology of Socrates was a defense speech made by Socrates against the accusations that have been made against him. In his speech, Socrates targets the jurors, the judge, and all of the spectators in the crowd. There are two sets of accusations made against Socrates. There are the original, older accusations and the current or newer accusations. Socrates uses his wisdom to attempt to show the jurors, and his fellow Athenians that these accusations are false and that he is innocent. First, we must look at what Socrates is defending. There are four levels of defense that we see in the Apology. The first is that Socrates is defending himself against his fellow Athenians. Since, Socrates is a philosopher, then he is in fact defending philosophy as well. Socrates student Plato, who accounts the Apology is defending his mentor as well, so he is in fact defending philosophy with future generations in mind. The Apology is not only about Socrates defending himself, but it is also about Socrates defending philosophy and keeping it alive for future generations. Socrates starts his defense speech by addressing the audience. He explains to the audience the manner of the Socratic speech. He tells them that his speech may not be as persuasive as his accusers , but it will be the truth. He tells his audience to look past the mere appearances and to focus on the reality. Although his accusers may have a very persuasive speech, it is false. He
  • 37. Incidents of the Life of a Slave Girl In Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl , Harriet Jacobs writes, Slavery is terrible for men; but it is far more terrible for women (64). Jacobs work presents the evils of slavery as being worse in a woman s case due to the tenets of gender identity. Jacobs elucidates the disparity between societal dictates of what the proper roles were for Nineteenth century women and the manner that slaveryprevented a woman from fulfilling these roles. The book illustrates the double standard of for white women versus black women. Harriet Jacobs serves as an example of the female slave s desire to maintain the prescribed virtues but how her circumstances often prevented her from practicing. I ll teach you a lesson about marriage free niggers! (35 36). However, Jacobs will not allow it to totally destroy her sense of self as a woman. While she has suffered abuse and harassment and the hands of Dr. Flint, Jacobs remained determined that Flint would not succeed at last in trampling his victim under his feet, (46). As she is not permitted purity, Jacobs decided to take a white lover. If she were to be forced to give up her purity it would be at least . ..to a man who is not married... It seems less degrading to give one s self, that to submit to compulsion (47). The quotes show Jacobs recognition of the sanctity of marriage has well certain personal standards. Jacobs possesses a sense of self, she feels that she deserves to choose her own lover. Regarding her lover she wrote, There is something akin to freedom in having a lover who has no control over you except that which he gains by kindness... The wrong does not seem so great with an unmarried man, as with one who has a wife to be made unhappy (47). Jacobs used her own sexuality as a defense, since keeping her physical purity, a right to other women, had been denied to her. By choosing an unattached man, Jacobs

In this chapter, i aim to present a background on the changes in credit scoring and how best it can be implemented within the nancial sector, also highlighting past researches done on the issues with credit scoring and show the approach used in achieving their results. 2.2 Credit The term credit can be dated back as far as when human languages and friendships began. In the past people borrowed cowries (a form of money in certain areas of the world) from friends to take care of personal issues with the intention of paying back as soon as their crops were harvested and sold during the market days. As civilisation progressed, credit grants became more important to individuals, Small and large organisations to fund businesses and living ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The history of consumer credit scoring can be dated back to half a century ago [3]. However, history records the same approach was used to identify groups in a population even before. In 1936 Fisher came up with the rst approach a method that identied various groups in a population. He was keen to nd out the dierences between two varieties of iris through the measurement of the physical sizes of plants, thus ascertaining the dierence in the origins of skulls using their physical measurement. In 1941, Durand discovered that the same credit scoring technique could be used to distinguish between good and bad loans. Though his research project was for the National Bureau of Economic Research, it wasn t used for any predictive purpose. Due to the positive eect of credit scoring in credit cards, banks in the 1980s started using credit scoring in personal , home and small business loans, a method which is still utilised till date [1]. Credit unworthiness has always been a problem encountered by the nancial sectors as they are faced with lapses regarding the credit they oer to individuals and corporate bodies. The credit obtained from nancial sectors is sometimes not repaid. To minimise the risk of unpaid credit, nancial sectors have devised a number of techniques to mitigate this risk. One of such techniques discussed in the latter part of this report, is credit scoring. Credit
  • 40. Cuurare Culture Curare, or Chondrodendron Tomentosum, is a plant extract from Central and South America. The extract serves as a poison that has traditionally been used by South American indigenous peoples to aid in hunting efforts. By dipping arrows in poison, the hunter could then hunt for food by slowly poisoning it s prey through asphyxiation. Intuitively, eating a poisoned animal would be unwise, but the toxins in the Curare do not remain in the body. White Europeans took note of this unique property, and in the 1940s modern science had transformed this lethal poison into an effective anesthesia and muscle relaxant (Betcher 1977). Since then, pharmaceutical companies in the United Stateshave patented and made massive profits from Curare while the indigenous... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, since the late 1990s, we have seen an increasing number of voices come forward and begin the debate on what mechanisms are needed to reverse cultural appropriation of indigenous intellectual property such as with Curare. Among the topics at hand, there is one major debate that has taken precedence over the others: should the right to resources and knowledge be vested in individual, communities, or the state? By vesting rights to intellectual property in the individual, i.e. companies, we reach a state where the interest of the stakeholder overshadows the indigenous people occurs, and the indigenous people become marginalized as we see currently. Vesting rights in the community are a step forward, yet local communities do not always put the native population s best interests first and are usually the facilitating forces in cultural appropriation as they allow explicit access to resources in exchange for short term monetary gain. Finally, state or government vesting of intellectual property rights provides the most stable, safest form of protection against the appropriation. State control ensures that intellectual property, as long as the state is not overtly corrupt, will be appropriated to the right groups of people such as the indigenous South Americans. Secondly, state ownership of intellectual property provides a stable basis for defense against other nations attempting to steal ideas, such is the case with Curare. On the other hand, state control of intellectual property is often bureaucratic which can be obstructing to resource conservation due to its slow reaction to create regulation (Ziff 1997). Regardless of what happens at a national level and below, the creation of international groups to unite

They say this when they are open for a pass or want the ball. The sport of lacrosse should be in the olympics. To support my position I will Give you a description of the game, the popularity of the game and finally a counterarguement that I will fight. In this paragraph I will give you a desription of the game of lacrosse. First according to the article named lacrosse the sport is played on a field 60 70 yards x 110 yards. This proves useful because it means it can be played on a soccer field that is already made. All you would have to do would be to add 5 yard extensions to each end of the field. The next reason is based on the time length of the game. According to the article titled NCAA Rules for Men s Lacrosse there is four 15 minute quarters and a 10 minute halftime with 2 minutes in between every quarter. It also has a overtime of 4 minutes but can go on longer if there is still a tie. That means it has a total time of 78 minutes including everything except the time after the overtime. That is shorter than a soccer game in the olympics. So basically it would nt take up much time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research shows that students who become truant and eventually drop out of school put themselves at a long term disadvantage in becoming productive citizens. Dropouts are more likely to be on welfare or unemployed than high school graduates. High truancy rates are also linked to high daytime burglary rates, vandalism, and juvenile gang activity. An Explanation of the Scientific Importance of the Human Genome Project The human genome project is an international effort that serves as a possible solution to the many diseases that affect billions of people worldwide. This project is a great milestone in the field of genetics as it allows scientists to determine the sequence of genes in chromosomes which will show where disease causing mutations are occurring and what can be done to reverse it. Looking back in time, many of the diseases which could be cured were done by administering drugs and certain types of therapies. As the complexity of technology as well as advancements in the understanding of our bodies increased, more diseases became curable through these very drugs and therapies. However, many times individuals find it hard to deal with the side effects that these solutions create. The human genome project aims to make disease and illnesses curable more efficiently and to become readily available to individuals throughout the world. It is therefore necessary the that society begins to accept this project as the new frontier in medical treatment and prevention of diseases. By having a greater investment and understanding in the Human genome Project, the scientific community will determine more information about DNA to develop treatment plans, prevention methods, and develop cures to diseases that affect humans; thus yielding medically important information for society. When attempting to understand what the
