Cialdini s Six Weapons Of Influence
In Social Psychology, there are six principles of compliance that describe the tactics people use to
persuade or influence others. Also referred to as Cialdini s six weapons of influence, these six
approaches include reciprocation, commitment and consistency, social proof, friendship/liking,
authority, and scarcity. Of course, one can find examples of these persuasive techniques in
everyday life situations. However, if there is a single location where one can find examples of
these principles occurring at the same time, it would be at farmer s market. This past Sunday, I
visited the Chattanooga Farmer s Market peach festival celebration. While I was there, I noticed
there were many different venders attempting to sell their products. Each... Show more content on

He also asked me if I liked each sauce, and asked for my thoughts about how each sauce tasted.
Naturally, since I love hot sauce, I agreed that all the sauces were delicious. Since I agreed to
tasting each sample and giving positive feedback I made it seem as though I was committed to
the position that supported the notion that each sauce was excellent. That would have made it
more likely for me to buy a full bottle of at least one sauce. This vendor also used the foot in the
door technique in that he had me agree to a small request (sampling hot sauce), and then
presented me with a larger request when he asked me if I would like to buy a full bottle. After
this encounter, I was very convinced to buy a bottle, but I did not do so. This was because I did
not need hot sauce and I wanted to spend my money on other things. However, if I had the extra
money, I would have bought the hot sauce.
Scarcity The next vendor I stopped at was selling dog collars and leashes. I ended up buying a
faux Gucci dog collar for my dog because the vender used the principle of scarcity to convince
me to buy the collar. Initially, I approached the second booth with the intention of buying a
cheaper, more basic dog collar with no design. Then, when I encountered the fake Gucci dog
collar, I was amused and thought it was cool. However, as I was about to put to it back, the
vendor came up to me and told me that it was the last one he had in stock. He also told

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Database System
Although the database system yields considerable advantages over previous data management
approaches, database systems do carry certain disadvantages. Such as:
1. Increased costs:
Database Systems are in requirement of hardware as well as software of a sophisticated nature,

hardware the software, required for the operation and management of a Database Management
System may be considerable. regulation licensing, compliance training costs are many at times

prerequisites which are required in order to execute the DBMS software. this implies that one has

Calorie Essay
CHAPTER 2
LITERATURE REVIEW
Definition of Calorie
According to Ayoob( 2009), a calorie can be defined as a unit of heat energy that human body use
as energy to produce heat. This energy fuels human body for strength in daily activity. In scientific
term, there are two types of calories which small calorie and large calorie (Nordqvist, 2013).
A small calorie(symbol:cal) 1cal is the amount of energy to required to raise one gram of water by
one degree Celcius. A large calorie(symbol:Cal,kcal) 1Cal is the amount of energy required to raise
one kilogram of water by one degree Celcius.
1 large calorie(1kcal) = 1000 small calories.
Calories can be found in fat, carbohydrate and protein. The main source of calorie comes ... Show

2.2.1 Walking vs. Running
Walking is not simply slow running; competitive race walkers can zip by recreational joggers.
The difference between the two is not based on pace. At any speed, walkers have one foot on the
ground at all times, but runners are entirely airborne during some part of every stride. As the pace
increases, the percentage of each stride that is airborne increases; competitive runners have hang
times of about 45%.*
What goes up must come down. That s why running is a high impact activity. Each time they land,
runners subject their bodies to a stress equal to about three times their body weight. In just one
mile, a typical runner s legs will have to absorb more than 100 tons of impact force. It s a testament
to the human body that running can be safe and enjoyable.
Walkers have one foot on the ground at all times. Figure 1 below show the walking posture.
Figure 1 Walking Posture
Exercise burns calories. In the case of walking and running, the calories burned depend much
more on the distance covered and body weight than on pace. Table 2.1 shows calories burned per
mile of walking or jogging on the level for people of varying weights (Komaroff, 2009): People
who walked gained significantly less weight than those who

Federalists vs. Democratic Republicans Essay
Federalists vs. Democratic Republicans
George Washington himself wanted to avoid a party system in America. Unfortunately, even when
saying this he was part of the beginning of one of the first parties in United States politics. There
have been many different parties surface since the beginning of the American political system. They
all have different thoughts, policies, and motivations. Each party has come and gone, some have
made significant contributions and others have not. The first split, and beginning of the party
system, came with the differentiation between the Federalists and the Democratic Republicans.

The Federalist Party consisted of people who were very much Anglophiles. They loved Britain and
all things British. The Federalists felt that there should be a loose constructionist interpretation of
the constitution. They believed that there were things implied by or simply understood by the
wording of the Constitution. According to the Federalists, just because something was not
specifically written in the Constitution doesn t mean that it wasn t covered or addressed as
something that the federal government could handle. The Federalist Party also supported a strong
governmental leadership. They thought that the most important branch of government was the
executive branch, and that a strong leader was needed in this office of president to make the
country strong. Some important Federalist Party supporters included George Washington, John
Adams, John Jay, and Alexander Hamilton. There were some people who didn t agree with
everything that the Federalist Party believed. This new party was known as the Democratic
Republicans. This party was made up of farmers, small businessmen, and laborers. The Democratic
Republicans weren t backed by as much money, and were considerably poorer than the Federalists.

Pros And Cons Of A Just War
Can participating in war ever be morally acceptable? Many people in history have asked this
question and attempted to answered it. This has resulted in different theories and opinions on the
topic, the most widely known being Just War position. It explains when a country should go to
war, why they should go to war, and what they should be permitted to do during wartime (Demy).
Many wars in history have show the devastation that man s cruelty to one another can cause. The
best example of this is World War 2, in which many millions of people were killed. Many
atrocities were committed during the war, the worst, of course, was the holocaust. Had all sides to
this war followed the Just Warposition, the devastation would not have been as great... Show more

He grew up working hard and did a lot of reading in his spare time. London s writing career began
when his mother urged him to write and submit a book about a voyage in which London
encountered a typhoon. Following his victory, London dedicated his life to writing. At first he
had a problem with lack of willing publishers, so he went to the East coast. But than he went
back to California and attended college there. Soon afterwards he went to the Yukon in Canada
to search out fortune, where he received inspiration for some of his works. London went back to
California at age 22 where he soon started writing for the Overland Monthly, from which he
received discipline as a writer. Then he started his habit to write at least 1,000 words a day.
When Jack London wrote The Call of the Wild, which takes place in the Yukon, it was successful
and earned London fame. In the last 16 years of his life, London published 50 books, most of
which were a success. In 1900 London had married Bess Maddern, then had two daughters, Joan

Intelligence In Law Enforcement
1. The value and significance of intelligence in law enforcement activities has been growing since
the events of 9/11 when it became apparent that the world s most powerful nation was unable to
protect its people from uneducated goat herders, who chose to carry out terrorist activities. One can
spot claims that the CIA and other intelligence agencies knew about the upcoming terrorist attacks,
they were unable to effectively coordinate their activities with the policeto apprehend the terrorists
(Conser, 2014). The Madrid and London Metro bombings in 2008 and the 2015 2016 terrorist
attacks in Europe (France, Brussels) again showed that police could only react to preplanned attacks
and thus was rather inefficient and ineffective. Since terrorismbecomes a major threat, the need for
police to have updated (or real time) intelligence information available on their computers to better
react to the threats (Spindlove, 2015). What is more important, since the street level officers work
among citizens in the community, with access to proper intelligence information, they can be the
first to face, stop and frisk and apprehend terrorists or other criminals before they engage in crime.
Therefore, the value and significance of intelligence in law enforcement activities will continue to
grow in foreseeable future.

Life On Earth Is Dependent On The Functions Of Light As A...
Life on earth is dependent on the functions of light as a source of energy that has a direct or
indirect effect on the sustainability of all organisms. Light is defined as a portion of the
electromagnetic spectrum detected by human eyes (Wilson, Nivillac, Sheng, 2016, p.4); light as it
passes through a space, acts like waves and is composed of photon, containing a stream of energy
particles. Lightmust be absorbed by an organism to utilize it as a source of energy, however;
absorption occurs when photon s energy is transmitted to an electron, matches with the energy
needed to elevate the electron from a ground state to an explicit excited state within a molecule.
Energy from the sun as a light source enters the biosphere by the process of photosynthesis, through
which the energy of light is used to convert carbon dioxide into organic compounds. The balanced
chemical equation for the overall process of photosynthesis is: 6COв‚‚ + 12Hв‚‚O в†’
C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂+ 6H₂O (Wilson, Nivillac, Sheng, 2016, p.145)
Photosynthesis occurs in two different processes: the light reaction and the Calvin cycle. This lab
focuses on the light reaction stage of photosynthesis in which the light energy is captured by
pigment molecules and utilize energy to synthesize NADPH and ATP, resulting in the production of
oxygen (Oв‚‚) (Wilson, Nivillac, Sheng, 2016, p.146). There are many factors that affect the rate of
photosynthesis for accumulated Oв‚‚; however, in this laboratory experiment the

The Seventh-Day Adventists Essay
Seventh day Adventists The Seventh day Adventists are one of the many different branches of
Christianity. The Adventists came about during the 19th century and began with the Millerite
Movement ( Seventh Day Adventists , 2013). The movement was started by an American Baptist
preacher by the name of William Miller, who believed that the Second Coming the return of
Christ to Earth would occur between March 21, 1843 and March 21, 1844 ( Seventh Day
Adventism , 2004). This prediction was largely based off Daniel 8:14 in the Bible (See slide 4).
Since he and his followers believed in this imminent advent, or return, they were called Adventists (
Seventh Day Adventism ). According to an article on Seventh Day Adventism (2004), when... Show

Edison believed that Miller had misidentified where Christ would appear and believed that He
was to enter the Heavenly Sanctuary instead of Earth. Joseph insisted that his followers observe
the Jewish Sabbath worshipping on Saturday instead of Sunday worships. This increased the
already Anti Catholic view of the Adventists, going to far as to blame the Catholic church for
changing the worship day ( Seventh Day Adventism , 2004). These two groups stayed separate
until a women by the name of Ellen White, a well known supporter and a believed prophet,
combined their ideas and the trio established the Seventh Day Adventist denomination, which
recieved it s official name in 1860 ( Seventh Day Adventism ). Later, on May 21, 1863, the
headquarters for the Adventist Church was established in Battle Creek, Michigan. The Church was
moved to Washington D.C and the neighboring community of Takoma Park, Maryland in 1903 and
again to Silver Spring, Maryland in 1989, where it still resides today ( Seventh Day Adventists ,
2013). A new sect of the Adventist branch, named the Davidian Seventh day Adventists, was
created in 1929 by a man named Victor Houteff, whose beliefs differed than that of the main
Church. The sect further divided into many sub groups, and one widely known group became
known as the Branch Davidians, though it holds very little in common with rest of the

The Growing Importance Of Ethical Business Managers
The Growing Importance of Ethical Business Managers
Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw (2010) describe that the need for ethical business managers and practices
has never been greater. Recent financial scandals have exposed issues in the management decision
making process, suggesting a need to develop the necessary analytical and empathetic qualities so
future corporate leaders may be moral managers (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). This recent
pattern of business misconduct (Michaelson, 2015) and single minded pursuit of profit has made
the promotion of ethical values a key concern for modern business organizations (Julia Shaw
Hillary Shaw, 2010). This paper will discuss how literary fiction (i.e. novels, literature, narrative,
fiction, drama, comics) can help organizations develop ethical managers by discussing (1) the
growing importance of ethical business managers (2) the benefits of a novel approach to business
ethics, and (3) the moral value of literary fiction to business.
During the past few years, many companies have seen their reputations plummet in the wake of
various corporate scandals (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). With this context of an amoral and
inept set of global management practices, Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw (2010) propose the need for a
new breed of manager, namely the moral manager. While Eastwood describes that leadership is an
essentially moral act, he elaborates that there is a disconnection between this notion and the
behavior of some business

Our intention is to do the aforementioned in a manner that will allow us to manage all of the files

well by providing us with a way to share our files and resources in a manner that did not require
much planning. Unfortunately, as a peer to peer network grows it becomes more difficult to
maintain due to its lack of centralized control which makes it un scalable. With the addition of
fifty individual workstations, security access and file storage control remains in the hands of
the user. For example, should someone decide to delete a company file, there would be no way
of knowing. Once there are more than five or six workstations attached peer to peer networks
begin to pose as a security threat that may cause loss of sensitive company data due to virus and
spyware attacks. Fortunately advancements in technology have provided a viable solution for
rapidly growing small businesses such as our own called servers. Our Viable Solution. Adding a

Mapping Brain Function
There were three general approaches to mapping brain functions. With extirpation, parts of the
brain are systematically destroyed to observe the subsequent behavior (Marshall Hall and Pierre
Fourens). In the clinical method, the researcher looks at the brains of people after they died who
exhibited odd behavior in life (Paul Broca). Finally, electrical stimulation of the brainand body was
used to observe the muscle twitches (Fritsch and Hitzig).
Gall was concerned with mapping brain functions from both inside and outside. When looking at
the brain from the outside, he developed cranioscopy, later known as phrenology, which proposes
that the shape of one s skull reveals intellectual or emotional characteristics. Phrenology quickly

The Tax Rate Is Fair
Although many Americans, who do not know what a flat tax rate is, think that the current tax
rate is fair, let us look at two different situations and then reconsider. There is a man, John Waters,
who is the CEO of a large company and he makes an average of $570,000 annually. Making this
amount, John is forced to pay thirty five percent of his income to the government in taxes, leaving
him with $370,500 to support his family of five. With his remaining balance he would be eligible
to be placed in the taxbracket under the one he s in currently and reduce the percentage of his
income that he is forced to pay in taxes. On the other hand, you have another gentleman, Josh

In a flat rate system, all are equal in the eyes of wealth and what they owe the government meaning
that everyone no matter their occupation would pay the same percentage of their annual income in
taxes, creating a fair and just system. Therefore, there should be a change in the way that the
United States does taxes. It should be changed to a flat tax rate, with a negotiable percent set at the
beginning of each election, verses the current taxing tactic of the tax brackets.
Even though the flat tax rate has not existed in the United States in a while, it has made a
comeback, so to speak, over the last couple of years boosting the economies of many other
countries. The Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania have had flat tax rates of twenty
four percent, twenty five percent, and thirty three percent in place since the early to mid 1990 s.
Then on January 1st, 2001 a thirteen percent flat tax rate on personal income was placed into

personal income in 2003. Later in 2007, Slovakia introduced a seventeen percent tax rate for almost
all of their taxes including corporate tax, personal income tax, and VAT. There have been many
more countries that have followed in Russia s footsteps but the United States has yet to place it into

Drunk Driving, My Story
Drunk Driving, My Story My dad taught me how to drive his truck the second my feet could
reach the gas pedal. I loved the idea of being able to get into a vehicle and to have the freedom of
traveling anywhere you wanted to. I got my first vehicle, a beat up Jeep Wrangler, that I
repaired with my dad. When I finally got my drivers license, I felt like I had the world in my
hands. That was before the accident. Now when I think of long road trips, I tense up and grow
increasingly anxious. Whenever I am at a stoplight, I become restless as I stare at the red light
and nervously glance around me for any cars coming my way. I have to drive a big SUV or else
I become very uneasy. I get easily startled on the road and flinch at cars that come near me. I don

The value of objective and subjective evidence in understanding mental health conditions
It is important to consider both subjective and objective evidences to gain a comprehensive picture
of any mental health condition. I am going to demonstrate through examples how parallel
considerations can be used by clinicians to gain a full understanding of mental health disorders.
Subjective evidence is how the patient interprets the working of his own mind. It includes what he
reports about his thoughts and feelings including any uncomfortable sensations or distressing
thoughts. Objective evidence on the other hand is measurable. It comprises of any signs of the

He takes into consideration not only the patient s mental state but also the patient s general physical
health, psychosocial or environmental problems, their ability to integrate into society and take care

Subjective evidence includes the thoughts and feelings of the patient. It comprises of the
symptoms the patient is reporting and the level of distress he is experiencing. A patient suffering
from depression for example might report symptoms of having dark thoughts, feeling blue, can
complain of persistent low mood, outbursts of crying, decreased appetite and activity levels, lack
of sleep. These are all examples of subjective evidence. Objective evidence about the condition
includes any signs noticeable to the clinician that can be taken as an indication of mental disease.
This can include slumped posture, poor hygiene, scruffy appearance, sadness, crying, sighing or
pacing. Lack of appetite can be a symptom a depressed person is complaining about, while the
amount of weight loss is measurable and objective. Aches, pains and flulike symptoms may not
have any biological basis in the body but can be psychosomatic manifestations of the depression.
Moreover depression usually accompanies many severe, long term conditions.

in avoiding claims and lawsuit cases. If inmates experiencing problems during incarceration and
the prison administration were following the standard procedures, they will not be held

and choose the performance of the staff. Their requirement is just to decide if the staffs are
abiding by functional guidelines. Third reason, codes assist the progress of preparation and
assessment of prison programs by providing program managers a goal to achieve in their work

What Are The Arguments Against The Road To Confederation Dbq
The road to confederation was the making of Canada it was the joining of Canadian colonies. The
British colonies wanted to make one large British North America. Many people were with the idea
and many people were against it this essay will discuss why people were against it. The threat of
american expansion into canadahappened because the Americans were against the confederation of
1867. Documents 1, 7 will be used as evidence to support the idea of how people were against the
confederation.
The Americans believed in the manifest density, which meant that they were destined to expand so
that all of america was under their rule. The northern and southern states were fighting against each

There were then Fenian Raids, when a group of Irish Americans led a series of attacks on the

54 40 or fight . It was clear that the americans were ready to take over all of north america. In
document one William Seward US Secretary of State says I know that God intends that this whole
continent shall be sooner or later, within the magic circle of the United States of America . You can
see that here the main idea was to take all the of North america under the stars and stripes. In
document seven George Etienne Cartier says We have five colonies and in order to become a
great nation, they need only to be brought together under one central Government. The matter
comes down to this, whether we form a British American confederation or we will be absorbed
into the United States of America. Shall we be content to remain separate colonies, to maintain a
mere provincial existence, whe, by combining together we could become a great nation It has
never before been the good fortune of any group of colonies to secure

Benefits Of Dual Language Bilingual Education
A dual language bilingual education strategy is usually employed in public schools. Typically the
minority language students and the majority language students are evenly distributed throughout
the classrooms. Both languages are used for instruction with evenly distributed 50/50 time. One
teacher shall instruct with the home language while other instruction is in English. The two
teachers work collaboratively through all the lessons. Since these students are in mainstream
education, it is no surprise that most students prefer to use English the majority language. The
goals of a dual language program are to develop high levels of proficiency of the first language then
subsequently the second language. Consequently, it is desired to... Show more content on

The bilingual education programs in the United States have a long history despite an ongoing
battle. The goal of bilingual education has been focused on two areas of assimilation and
integration. Bilingual education programs help immigrant children to learn English and adopt
American culture. Under social and political preferences, most of the schools use transitional
bilingual education but with English only. As a result, the students home languages, culture are
devalued in the schools. Students learn English while at the expense of losing their first language.
Despite much research bilingual education is not fairly recognized by the public. However in fact
when a bilingual education program supported the minority language were consistently superior in
various outcomes. Case closed, bilingual education programs should be properly administered with
the requisite support needed. We still wish to look at some further benefits though. Students who
are given instruction in their home language helps them to catch up to their English speaking peers
in subjects such as English language art, reading, and mathematics. Bilingual education students do
better than the English only instructed students overall. Bilingual education is more effective than
English only monolingual education. Actually, by using the students first language in schoolthis

Conflicts During The Cold War
During the Cold War, there were many elements leading the United States and Soviets into a
conflict and almost into another World War. The Cold War lasted from 1945 to 1991 and invented
many things, for example the doomsday clock which counts down to humanity destruction of
nuclear war, glady never reached midnight. Many of these causes were because of basic
philosophical differences between the US and USSR. Another reason would be broken promises
and unsettled arguments made during World War II or shortly after. Also the spread of communism
creating the Iron curtain building up aggression within the USA and USSR.
The First objective would be there basic philosophical differences as in how their economy and

In the book it said that Eastern Europe had already lost to the communist and that this calls the U.S
to help out. This basically meant that communism was spreading and taking down democracy and
that the U.S is needed to stop the threat. So U.S does start helping and we start off by
experimenting on Turkey and Greece.
As the result the United State did something to stop communism spreading and so the Truman
Doctrine was formed. In 1947, Greece and Turkey were in threat by the Soviet Union and were
about to become communist but Truman tells congress for their help so they stabilize their
economy by transferring 400 million dollars and preventing them from becoming communist. This
showed nations that the United States would do anything to stop communist aggression.
In the End, no bullets were fired nor bombs were dropped but this cold war could have lead to the
next World War which would have left the world in shambles of the nuclear power each nation
had in there deposit. Each nation was close to war because of basic philosophical differences and

Open Letter to University of Michigan Central Student Government
Dear the University of Michigan Central Student Government,
As an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan concerned with the stress levels of
my peers, I am writing to address the issue of not having enough stress reducing activities for
students year round. As we all know, college is a very stressful time. Not a week goes by without
having an exam, an essay due, or a presentation to give. And if it does, we spend that week
prepping for whatever assignment we have the following week. We never get a break. This is why
we need the Central Student Government s help in providing enough stress reducing activities year

2012). A reduction in heart rate and a reduction in blood pressure are both signs of stress reduction,
which shows that interacting with therapy dogs get the job done. This type of stress reduction is
easy and accessible, and it is what the students here at the University of Michigan need.
The Central Student Government might argue that it is not feasible to have therapy dogs available
at all times every single day, which is true, but having them around about once a week would
suffice. The Central Student Government might also believe that the University of Michigan does
not have the resources or money to make this happen, but many therapy dog owners volunteer their
time, rather than get paid for it, so money is not an issue. For example, the organization that the
University of Michigan already uses, named Therapaws of Michigan , is a non profit
organization and all of their therapy dog owners are volunteers. It does not cost anything for
them to come help us out. Also, space should not be an issue either because first of all, there are
always places outside, such as the Diag, to hold these events, and second of all, our campus is so
big that finding a room out of the

Analysis of Women in the Book of Judges Essay
When interpreting the Hebrew Bible from a feminist perspective, many are quick to decry the
subjugation of women at the hands of men and the lack of female representation in dominant roles
in biblical literature. However, although some women are objectified or possibly marginalized, this
claim of inequality does not always hold true. Especially in the book of Judges, women are not
discarded as characters and are not wholly unappreciated. In fact, the book of Judges features
many strong female characters who serve in significant roles, and who are effectively portrayed as
leaders, heroes, and capable, resourceful individuals. An excellent example of an influential woman
in Judges is Deborah. From the beginning, Deborah is identified... Show more content on

It is even Deborah herself who gives the call to charge against Sisera s army, while Barak and his
soldiers comply. In Judges 5, commonly referred to as the Song of Deborah , praises are sung in
honor of this female military leader, who acts as a mother in Israel. Some scholars have even noted
parallels drawn between Deborah and the Canaanite war goddess, Anat (Ackerman 177).
Additionally, Deborah is respected as a religious figure. For example, Barak refuses to go to war
without Deborah by his side. According to Jo Ann Hackett, Barak s refusal to fight without the
presence of Deborah is not indicative of his ineptitude or of her military prowess. Rather, Hackett
proposes that Barak requests Deborah s participation because, as a prophetess and as a leader
chosen by the Lord, her presence indicates divine support (Hackett 357). If Deborah were visible to
the Israelite soldiers, morale would be lifted with the thought that the Lord would deliver the enemy
into their hands. This shows that Deborah is thought to represent the will of God.
Rabbi Steinsaltz notes that the phenomenon of prophetesses in the history of nations is usually
relegated to women who are outside the circle of life (e.g. hermitesses, or virgins dedicated to this
specific role) (Shapira 28). Deborah, however, is an exception. Although she is a prophetess, she is
also relevant in society, and fulfills multiple roles. She successfully leads the charge

Essay about Conflict in Northern Ireland
Conflict in Northern Ireland
For over three decades there has been conflict in Ireland. The disagreement between the Republicans
/Nationalist and Loyalist/unionists sill continues to this day. The key issue remains should the
North stay part of the United Kingdom with its own developed assembly or should it join the south
as part of a united and independent Ireland?
Ireland is a small country and has a population of 1.5 million. Yet despite this small number, the
north and south of Ireland have been in bitter conflict with each other which has been going on for
decades. This is mainly due to the main difference in the beliefs of the people. The two main

The three main political groups for the nationalists are the SDLP (Social Democrats and Labour
party), Sinn Fein and IRA (Irish republican army).
The IRA is an extreme paramilitary group which beliefs that peace can only be obtained by
violence and killing. This group has mainly been responsible for the killing of thousands of
civilians. This group believes that the only way to stop British presence in Ireland and get their
views across is to use force and aggression. After the Peace process of 1998 a small splinter group
known as the Real IRA was made. These were members of the IRA which were opposed to the
Good Friday agreement and so split and formed there own group.
Sinn Fein is one of the political parties that agree with the use of violence and what the IRA do.
This group however does not get involved in the killing but elects candidates such as Gerry Adams
to represent and put forward there views on what they believe to be right.
The other main Nationalist party is the SDLP. Their main objective is also to have a united Ireland
however unlike the other two groups it is fiercely opposed to violence and believe it is not the best
way to reach an agreement. These moderate nationalists also want an independent Ireland, therefore
they support the aims of the hard line nationalists but they are opposed to the way they go about
this. The hard line nationalists use violence and

The Ethical Treatment Of Animal Testing
There are many debates about whether or not animals such as mice and rats should be experimented
on. The organization Psychologist for the Ethical Treatment of Animals believes in observing
animals instead of experimenting on them (Meyer). Another known organization is People for the
Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). An organization that is in favor of animal experimentation
is called Pro Test and is located in the United Kingdom (UK). This organization thinks that
experimenting on animals may help humans. About 95% of animals are not protected by the
Animal Welfare Act like reptiles, birds and mice ( Animal Testing
). Experimentation on animals
should not be permitted in any country, including the United States, because it is cruel and
inhumane, because we have developed new technology that can replace these experiments, and
because sometimes the results that are found are not directly relevant to humans. Animal testing is
a cruel and inhumane thing to do to a living organism. PETA believes that during experiments the
animals are not protected from suffering and there are no laws that are in place to protect them.
The animals in laboratories are treated like cheap disposable laboratory equipment. In fact, more
than 100 million animals are killed in the United States because they are victims of harsh and
deadly experiments that torture and kill these defenseless animals. Before their death, some animals
are forced to participate in experiments that require them to

Compare And Contrast Martin Luther King And Religion
Early on in his famous letter, Martin Luther King Jr. writes: I have the honor of serving as
president of the Southern Christian Leadership conference (King 2). In a similar fashion,
Malcolm X states in the third paragraph of his speech: Although I am still a Muslim, I m not here
to discuss my religion (X 24). Both making their religions clear, but the way they approach
religion in the two texts are starkly different from one another. Both, in a way, touch on religion in
such a way to respond to a particular religious organization. King s letter is written in response to a
group of mostly Christian clergymen who published A Call to Unity , a statement made in the

He uses religion to back up his claims and shows how his actions are morally supported by the
Bible, people fighting injustice beyond their homeland is nothing new, and King argues that by
doing so he is following the religious texts he and the other clergymen live their life by.
King brings in examples from his religion to further his argument that one must oppose unjust
laws using nonviolent direct action. King is accused of being an extremist, to which he
responds: Will we be extremists for hate or for love? (King 26). A bold statement, phrasing
action as having two distinct sides. King strongly disavows the white moderate who stands to the
side and waits for justice to come with time, instead of fighting for justice in the moment. He is
quick to refer to the Bible when addressing the clergymen: Was not Paul an extremist for the
Christian gospel? (King 25). Using a rhetorical question with a biblical reference to make those
who consider him an extremist, rethink if being an extremist is such an ill position to be in. He
continues to use biblical imagery to support his point, citing that he is an extremist for love as so
many were before him, including several prominent figures from Christianity. Even Jesus Christ, he
states was an extremist for love, truth and goodness (King 26). By using this symbolism King is
able to converse with his fellow clergymen in a way that is familiar to them all, pointing out the

Argumentative Synthesis Of President Obama

Argumentative Synthesis
President Barack Hussein Obama was the forty fourth president elected into office in 2008 and the
first United States president, under the constitution, of African descent. He has worked his way up
from the Illinois State Senate to the US Senate then officially sworn in as president on January
20, 2009. Considering his background in politics, logically, he should be a responsible,
trustworthy candidate for president yet that does not stand for his mentality of how to run a
country. He has portrayed himself as a person of significance by supporting the same sex
marriage law, preventing the unnecessary travel of oil and petroleum, and fighting for paid
leave for company employees; nevertheless, he has caused grief to appear in the families of war
participants. Conversely, pre presidency, Obama promised to end the war of American troops
fighting in Afghanistan in the year 2014, he promised to direct revenues from oil drills to
increase coastal protection, he also promised to become a person who unites the American people;
however, has this so called president kept any of those promises or have they long been
abandoned? As Barack Obama s second term comes to an end, it is apparent that Obama is one of
the most hypocritical presidents in American history.
On Friday, November 6, 2015, President Obama refused an agreement with a Canadian oil
company about building the Keystone XL oil

Shirley Jackson Satire
Shirley Jackson was an author who wasn t well known at first, but her literary works brought her
recognition, including the short story, The Lottery , a mandatory reading in many high schools.
She wrote many other stories such as Charles and The Possibility of Evil , these works
influenced by her life. The dark moods of her stories sourced first from her abuse as a child, but
these are what made her stories unique. In her story The Possibility of Evil , Shirley Jacksoncreates
this heavy mood of hatred and despair by combining her unique uses of ellipses, adjective focused
word choice, and vivid descriptions of setting. The story follows an elderly lady named Miss

The Pros And Cons Of Two Dollar Click
Two Dollar Click is a paid to click site, offering rewards that are just too much to be taken seriously.
They have been online for a few years and somehow they are still going.
The owner Jordan Welsh, which is thought to be an alias, has been involved with other scam sites
Six Dollar Clicks, Ten Dollar Clicks, NeoDollar, Bux Inc and perhaps more.
Another name that comes up when researching these sites is Michael Pratt, who is a well known

sites function.

In order to be paid you need to have earnt at least $1000, which is a huge amount. Most PTC sites
have payment thresholds of a few dollars. The payments can be made through Paypal or Payza.
Payments are made on a net 60 basis, which means you will recieve your money 60 days after
asking for it.
I don t think you should be under any illusion, you will never be paid. Well known PTC sites that
have been around for a few years rarely offer ads to watch even at $1. So $2 a click is not possible,
don t be taken in by the hype.
How do Two Dollar Click make money?
To fund the click payments they provide advertising. For an ad to be watched or clicked 1000 times
it only costs $5 or 1/2 a cent per click. You can order up to 25000 clicks, always for the same price
of 1/2 cent per click. Premium members can also buy banner ads.
Consequently, Two Dollar Click are paying out $2 for something for which they are paid 1/2 cent.
Who pays the other $1.995? No one, they cannot generate sufficient money to pay their members,
clearly this is unsustainable.

Chapter I. THEORETICAL ASPECT OF USING VISUAL MATERIAL IN TEACHING
ENGLISH 1.1. The importance of using visual aids in teaching English Nowadays, whereever
you go around the world you can find a certain people who can communicate with English
Language. Because of globalization and other reasons English is going to be the language of the
world. Apart from the use of English as their mother tongue in some countries there are a number
of countries who can teach English as Second Language or Foreign Language. Hence, in order to
use English Language more effectively and efficiently having rich knowledge of vocabulary is
crucial. In most cases you can find communication break down when the students at school are not
able to recall the appropriate word for the right situation of interaction. So in order to overcome this
and similar problems the use of visual materials in teaching English Language vocabulary is
mandatory. The use of visual materials makes the meaning of the words memorable and long
lasting in students mind. Visual Education is not new. It has years of research back of it. A Dutch
Humanist theologist and writer Erasmus (1466 1536) disclosed memorization as a technique of
learning and advocated that the children should learn through the aids of pictures or other visuals.
While John Amos Comenius (1592 1670) prepared a book known as Orbis Sensilium Pictus (the

Summary Of The MovieThe Martian 2014
The Martian 2015 is a very entertaining science fiction film which is accredited for its scientific
accuracy. However, some artistic liberties were taken to make the movie easier to make and
progress the plot. This paper will cover both accurate and inaccurate areas of space science
featured in the film. The portrayal of Mark Watney s separation, habitation of mars, and recovery
will all be analyzed. The way Mark gets separated from the crew is an area of inaccuracy. There
are storms on mars, but the strength of them would be much less significant. Mars has no
atmosphere so the winds would not be able to knock over the ship [1]. Though the storms may
be dangerous to humans due to flying debris, such a large ship would not be so affected. The
debris would not be as dangerous as shown. Even the strongest winds, up to 60 mph, on mars
would have trouble keeping the astronauts from moving around, and would have a tough time
picking up anything even remotely tied down [1]. The chance of debris knocking someone back
and impaling them like what happened to Mark Watney would be very unlikely. The way
habitation of Mars is portrayed is a mixed bag of accuracy. The gravity on Mars is 30% that of the
earth, yet Watney moves around like any earthling [2]. This makes the movie easier to film, and if
they had attempted to portray the gravity accurately, there would have been inaccuracies anyway.
Radiation seems to be ignored almost completely besides for the device he uses to heat his rover.
Being on mars for extended periods of time would increase the chances of cancer. NASA only
allows 200 rem per year [4], which Watney would almost certainly exceed being on a planet with
no atmosphere to protect from the Sun s radiation. This was probably left out as it would likely
not have immediate effects on Watney but it s still a big concern for real astronauts.
Communication was portrayed fairly accurately. The movie says the communication speed is 30
minutes there and back. Since mars is 54.6 million miles away, data traveling at the speed of light
would take 3 minutes to get there [2]. Once data processing, inaccuracy, and other factors are
accounted for, 30 minutes is realistic.

New Hampshire Visit
My mother held the reason for the family s New Hampshire visit, two tickets to a race at New
Hampshire Motor Speedway. While my parents attended the race in the sweltering heat, my sister,
Catlyn, and I had the entire day to ourselves. We didn t have much of a plan besides spending the
day without our parents. Catlyn and I agreed to explore the area around Hampton, starting near our
hotel. We found a pamphlet for a group of outlet stores. Upon further inspection of the pamphlet,
we realized that outlets were in Maine. This fact had confused us. To our knowledge New
Hampshire and Maine seemed too far for a day s drive. When we found directions on our phones we
noticed that it would only take twenty minutes. Wait, so it only takes twenty minutes... Show more

We still had plenty of time in the day to get to Kittery, so Catlyn and I set off for Maine. As our
parents didn t have the pleasure of knowing that we decided to drive to Maine, we thoughtfully
sent them a picture of the Welcome to Maine sign, leaving them to question why we left the state.
We arrived at Kittery sometime near noon. After walking around in the summer heat, we stopped
at a Bose factory store. The moment we walked into the store we fell under a trance to try on
every single pair of headphones. Ooh, noise cancelling, my sister said with a sarcastic tone. We
compared pairs of headphones and enjoyed the cool air conditioning. We had to pick up every
pair and check, possibly double check, the cushions and the way the headphones felt when we
wore them. The time spent in the Bose store was well needed as the air conditioning was
perfectly set to cool us during the warm day. After our folly in the store we decided to check the
rest of the outlet stores to possibly find more nonsensical things to mess around with. We stopped
into a store called Brookstone after. This store is known for its odd gadgets and assortment of
massage chairs. This store didn t interest us as much because everything interesting was not out on
display, but instead stuck inside a

The Biology Building At The University Of North Florida
The Biology Building at the University of North Florida has a hidden gem nestled away within it.
In the middle of the structure is a small square semi enclosed courtyard. Utilizing that courtyard, my
favorite place on the whole campus, I will conduct an autoethnography. In my autoethnography I
will analyze what about the courtyard I love so much and what those things convey about my
relationship with myself and others as well as my position within society. Autoethnographies
combine elements of both autobiographies and ethnographies. Specifically, autoethnographies are
academic essays that are introspective and narrative oriented looks at the self, much like
autobiographies and memoirs. However, autoethnographies are set apart from autobiographies and
journals in that they join that introspection with ethnographic research methods concerned with
connections between community and the self. Due to their unique nature, ethnographies are
beneficial in enhancing cultural understanding of the connections between groups and individuals,
as well as the self; and have the potential ability to transform the self and others through the cross
cultural building of bonds and understanding (Chang 2007). Using public and locations can be a
helpful tool in self insight, as they encompass a specific discourse (Thomas 1987). The authors
reactions to that discourse as well as their identity within the discourse In my own autoethnography,
I will examine my own reactions to the courtyard in the

My Journey At Seattle Pacific University
For the first eighteen years of my life I was raised in a conservative Southern Baptist church. During
my journey at Seattle Pacific University, I have been attending different church traditions in order
to find my own individual faith. One church that I have attended is Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox
Church. Since the Orthodox practices seemed abundantly different from the services that I grew up
with, I was hesitant but also excited and interested in their faith. Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox
Churchwas established in 1999 and is located in Shoreline, Washington. Their mission statement
is to be an extended village, welcoming and encouraging both adults and children to participate
in the Orthodox Christian Faith, as we grow together, like the Holy Apostles, to know, love and
serve Jesus Christ . The congregation invites any person that is interested in learning more about
the Orthodox faith or is a member of the faith to join them in worship at their parish. As their
website states, Everyone is welcome here whatever your story, your questions, whatever your
ethnic background, whatever your doubts or struggles. Come as you are, because that s where
God meets us . There are currently about 200 members that attend Holy Apostles. While the
congregation is predominantly white, there is a wide range of ages from young children to older
adults. I attended the Sunday morning Divine Liturgy with a group of friends. We were also
invited to stay for their coffee hour and time of

Feminist Development
When girls reach puberty, hormones are released that trigger many physical and psychological
changes. In girls, puberty usually begins with a growth spurt and the development of breasts.
Although breast development begins in the earliest stage of puberty, the process will continue
for several years. Usually, pubic hair and then axillary hair appear about six months later. It can
also be normal for axillary and pubic hair to appear as the first sign of the onset of puberty. It s
important to realize that, like many biological processes, there is a lot of variation in when and in
what order things happen. The key event for a young woman during puberty is menarche.
Menarche is the onset, or beginning, of the menstrual cycle, which is the process... Show more

Puberty in males begins somewhere between 9 and 13 years of age. The entire process lasts
from two to five years. There s no way to speed it up or slow it down, but never fear it will
happen to you. The first sign of male puberty may be difficult to detect. Boys testicles begin to
grow, and this probably hasn t happened almost since they were born. As a first step in puberty,
this makes sense because the testicles have two important functions: 1. they produce
testosterone, the male hormone that sets off all of the other changes in males during puberty;
and 2. they produce sperm the most important biological outcome of puberty. Soon after a boy s
genitals begin to grow, pubic hair makes its first appearance, usually above the base of the penis.
Over the next few years, the hair grows and spreads until it is dense and surrounds the genitals,
and then it spreads to the thighs and upward toward the belly button. Facial hair begins to make
its appearance usually after the first signs of pubic hair. Your voice will also begin to change, the
hormones cause signaling to the larynx to enlarge. The larger the voice box grows and the thicker
the vocal cords, the lower the voice goes. When a male has completed puberty, his bones are
heavier than those of a woman, and he has up to twice the muscle

The Horror Of The Zombies
The zombies are used to represent the mass panic of a containable situation, and the government is
portrayed as safe keepers of people, but also critiquing the government s actual response time and
effectiveness to situations. Both the story and the movie utilize zombies as a substitution for a
more real and occurring matter. The nationwide panic that is represented through a zombie
apocalypse can be interpreted as a problem that the country is facing or may have faced before.
The fact the most zombie apocalypse has one person who was infected and that person infected
someone else and so on shows that most of these occurrence could have been prevented, but due to

A zombie will kill if able. Given zombies, according to Sims were never not hungry (52), they
didn t rush to an opportunity. Sims describes a scene where Michael essentially has a stare down
with a jogger zombie. He says the zombie was facing his direction, but was lacking life. The
zombies have an unquenchable thirst for meat, flesh, and brains yet do not act upon their desire.
Maybe, due to decay, the eye sight of the zombie has decreased significantly along with its other
senses. Or, once zombiefied it no longer even use the senses. The zombies may altogether gain new
and different senses, and rely heavily upon those to tell what is around them. Either way, the
awareness of a zombie is significantly lower than a living human, but still dangerous none the less.
The Night of the Living Dead zombies are seen as pretty slow, but may be more aware. Night of
the Living Dead zombies utilized tools and were persistent. The first zombie that ap pears in the
movie seemed to be the most aggressive one. He wrestles the guy to the ground and runs after
the girl. After she locks herself in the car he first tries the door handle on both sides of the car.
Figuring out that that didn t work he got a rock and broke the window. His level of un derstanding
had far surpassed that of the zombies in A Questionable Shape. Also, the daughter of the wife and
husband picked up a trowel to stab her mother to death with.

Economic Growth And Development Of Development
In this write up, I examine the idea of development and briefly looked at its historical development
until the age of neo liberal and market propelled development we are current witnessing with a
view to proposing directions for future development. As I do these, I will examine the of this
importance development for Africa. Development can be seen as the study of the causes and
consequences of economic change in society. Development can mean different things to different
people depending on the lens used in viewing it. It was seen as part of the geopolitical project to
lure newly independent countries of the world away from communism to capitalist orientation of
the countries of Western Europe and North America (Sachs, 1992). It was a geopolitical project that
has to do with economic growth, industrialization and modernization (Veltmeyer, 2011). Setting up
the liberal dimension of development, W.W. Rostow (1960) in his work The Stages of Economic
Growth, set the stage for capitalist economic development as he identified five stages of
development to include (1) the traditional which has to do with primitive technology, hierarchical
social structure and barter trade relation, (2) pre conditions for take off where education,
entrepreneurship capital mobilizing institutions assist economic progress, (3) take off stage is one
with rapid economic growth, technological application and investment and urbanization; (4) drive
to maturity is the stage of more sophistication in

Malmar McKnight’s The Storm Essay
Malmar McKnight s The Storm
Malmar McKnight s frightening story, The Storm , weaves a violent storm and murder together to
heighten the horrific fears that engulf Janet Willsom. The Storm is a combination of Mother
Nature, Janet s emotions, and her heartbreaking dilemmas. The eerie mood is revealed throughout
the story. Figurative language helps the reader bring the story to life in his/ her mind. The author s
use of irony is devolved through Janet s changed perception of the storm.
Throughout the story, the mood becomes more suspenseful. As Janet walks out of the strong spring
storm and enters her cold damp house, she is overcome by feelings of isolation and loneliness. Her
husband is not there; there are dead plants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She also thinks that she sees a face in the window. As she enters the damp, musty, ill lit cellaryou
can feel the suspense building. Malmar continues to use these types of images up to the conclusion
of the story.
The author uses a lot of figurative language throughout the story. The forceful wind is compared to
a dog shaking a rat between its teeth. As Janet tried to calm herself, the idea that a dead woman
was in the basement of her house began to beat at her like a flail. The idea that she was frozen
with freight was illustrated by her body being like a drawn bow. Examples of more figurative
language can be found throughout the text.
The most obvious idea of irony is the storm itself. In the beginning of the story, Janet felt the
storm was scary and her house and husband were the only areas of safety. She had confined herself
to one area of the house and snuggled in her husband s coat to keep the storm from surrounding her.
At the end when her husband frightened her, Janet no longer felt safe at home or with her husband.
So she ran out into the raging storm for protection from within. It is ironic that the storm in the
beginning was her greatest fear and in the end, it became her greatest ally.
The author s frightening story, The Storm has all the expected things that a good scary story should
have. It has a story line that gains suspense throughout the story, there is irony, and there is lots of

Environmental Effects Of Plastics
Plastic never leaves. Also, it s inexorably discovering its way into our seas and onto our
shorelines. Huge amounts of plastics are drifting around the sea today like grocery plastic bags,
straws and bottles are conveyed into the Pacific Sea consistently. Today billions of pounds of
plastic can be found in twirling convergences on the world s sea surfaces. Plastics contamination
has an immediate and fatal impact on wildlife. A vast amount of seabirds and ocean turtles, seals
and other marineanimals are killed every year subsequent to ingesting plasticor getting snared in
it.Plastics are detrimental to aquatic ecosystems for a number of different reasons: they may
entangle animals, be ingested by aquatic organisms and cause their death. Plastic causes
pollution in the ocean and endangers the inhabitants of many sea creatures. Plastic comes in
many different kinds and variety, some are largely noticeable and some are micro particles. Tiny
plastic objects are the most dangerous to the sea creatures especially to the marine mammals.
These micro or tiny bits and pieces of plastics tend to get consumed accidentally by many marine
animals. Plastic is the great pretender, conceived in mimicry and dedicated to the simulation of
everything else in art and nature (208, Ebbesmeyer). Ebbesmeyer claims that plastics can be any
sort of form(s). Just like any other object in the world has some plastic incorporated into it such as
toys, appliances/electronics, and people s daily

Found in the painting
Specific heat is found in the painting because the sun is heating everything up but the water is
much cooler than the dirt because it has a higher specific heat.
Connection to friction
Specific heat connects to friction through the specific heat capacity of brake pads in a vehicle.
Firstly, brake pads are a key component to your car because it is what allows you to stop. When
you stomp down on the brake pedal, the brake pads applies pressure and friction to the cars brake
rotors which eventually slows it down to a stop. Because of the speed and the weight of the

Water has a different specific heat than copper which has a different specific heat than gold. The
reasoning behind this is the same reason why different substances have different melting and
boiling points. Water for example has a very high specific heat needing 4.186 joule/gram В°c to
raise 1 gram by 1 В°c. Why does water have such a high specific heat? Well, when something
heats up, the particles vibrate and the more hot the object gets the faster they move. Waters
molecules are not easily movable because of its molecular structure. Water molecules have a
strong bond to each other because of the polarity of the molecule. One side is very positive and
the other very negative. It is difficult to move or break these bonds because the positive is
attracted to the negative. So what does that have to do with specific heat? The answer is that
water has such a high specific heat because it is a polar liquid. hypothetically if water was not so
polar it would have a lower specific heat because the bonds would not be so attracted to each

Essay about Virgin Suicides
Each year suicide is becoming more common in the United States among adolescents, according to
the Suicide and Mental Health Association International. The main reason why adolescents commit
suicide is because they are depressed. In the article Nightmare in the Mirror by Scott Long, he

have Angst and bouts of suicidal despair distinguish this gloomy figureВ… (Long 156). Long
explains that throughout the years, adolescents have become sadder and depressed. Adolescents,

As a result of being isolated from others, the girls become depressed. Lux makes the statement I can
t breathe in here (The Virgin Suicides). The girls become extremely lonely. Even before Cecilia, the
youngest daughter, committed suicide the girls were still sheltered. Cecilia s psychiatrist told the
parents that the girls needed another social outlet besides school. This proves that it is not
healthy for adolescents to not be social. With the girls now without the social outlet of school,
the girls became lonely and depressed. According to neuropsychiatrist, Rajesh Parikh,
Alcoholism and suicide become a handmaiden due to loneliness and depression . In other words,
people who are lonely and depressed have a higher risk of committing suicide. Since the girls
were lonely and depressed, they were at a higher risk of committing suicide. Since the girls were
depressed, this later resulted in their suicide. Suicide attempts are usually made when a person
is seriously depressed and feels that there is no way out of their problems according to D Arcy
Lyness, PhD. Adolescents commit suicide because they feel as if they can not escape emotional
pain. The Lisbon girls were simply depressed. The majority of adolescents who commit suicide
suffer from depression. From the film The Virgin Suicides, it is obvious that the Lisbon girls are

  • 2. Cialdini s Six Weapons Of Influence In Social Psychology, there are six principles of compliance that describe the tactics people use to persuade or influence others. Also referred to as Cialdini s six weapons of influence, these six approaches include reciprocation, commitment and consistency, social proof, friendship/liking, authority, and scarcity. Of course, one can find examples of these persuasive techniques in everyday life situations. However, if there is a single location where one can find examples of these principles occurring at the same time, it would be at farmer s market. This past Sunday, I visited the Chattanooga Farmer s Market peach festival celebration. While I was there, I noticed there were many different venders attempting to sell their products. Each... Naturally, since I love hot sauce, I agreed that all the sauces were delicious. Since I agreed to tasting each sample and giving positive feedback I made it seem as though I was committed to the position that supported the notion that each sauce was excellent. That would have made it more likely for me to buy a full bottle of at least one sauce. This vendor also used the foot in the door technique in that he had me agree to a small request (sampling hot sauce), and then presented me with a larger request when he asked me if I would like to buy a full bottle. After this encounter, I was very convinced to buy a bottle, but I did not do so. This was because I did not need hot sauce and I wanted to spend my money on other things. However, if I had the extra money, I would have bought the hot sauce. Scarcity The next vendor I stopped at was selling dog collars and leashes. I ended up buying a faux Gucci dog collar for my dog because the vender used the principle of scarcity to convince me to buy the collar. Initially, I approached the second booth with the intention of buying a cheaper, more basic dog collar with no design. Then, when I encountered the fake Gucci dog collar, I was amused and thought it was cool. However, as I was about to put to it back, the vendor came up to me and told me that it was the last one he had in stock. He also told ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The difference between the two is not based on pace. At any speed, walkers have one foot on the ground at all times, but runners are entirely airborne during some part of every stride. As the pace increases, the percentage of each stride that is airborne increases; competitive runners have hang times of about 45%.* What goes up must come down. That s why running is a high impact activity. Each time they land, runners subject their bodies to a stress equal to about three times their body weight. In just one mile, a typical runner s legs will have to absorb more than 100 tons of impact force. It s a testament to the human body that running can be safe and enjoyable. Walkers have one foot on the ground at all times. Figure 1 below show the walking posture. Figure 1 Walking Posture Exercise burns calories. In the case of walking and running, the calories burned depend much more on the distance covered and body weight than on pace. • 8. Intelligence In Law Enforcement 1. The value and significance of intelligence in law enforcement activities has been growing since the events of 9/11 when it became apparent that the world s most powerful nation was unable to protect its people from uneducated goat herders, who chose to carry out terrorist activities. One can spot claims that the CIA and other intelligence agencies knew about the upcoming terrorist attacks, they were unable to effectively coordinate their activities with the policeto apprehend the terrorists (Conser, 2014). The Madrid and London Metro bombings in 2008 and the 2015 2016 terrorist attacks in Europe (France, Brussels) again showed that police could only react to preplanned attacks and thus was rather inefficient and ineffective. Since terrorismbecomes a major threat, the need for police to have updated (or real time) intelligence information available on their computers to better react to the threats (Spindlove, 2015). What is more important, since the street level officers work among citizens in the community, with access to proper intelligence information, they can be the first to face, stop and frisk and apprehend terrorists or other criminals before they engage in crime. Therefore, the value and significance of intelligence in law enforcement activities will continue to grow in foreseeable future. 2. • 9. Life On Earth Is Dependent On The Functions Of Light As A... Life on earth is dependent on the functions of light as a source of energy that has a direct or indirect effect on the sustainability of all organisms. Light is defined as a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum detected by human eyes (Wilson, Nivillac, Sheng, 2016, p.4); light as it passes through a space, acts like waves and is composed of photon, containing a stream of energy particles. Lightmust be absorbed by an organism to utilize it as a source of energy, however; absorption occurs when photon s energy is transmitted to an electron, matches with the energy needed to elevate the electron from a ground state to an explicit excited state within a molecule. Energy from the sun as a light source enters the biosphere by the process of photosynthesis, through which the energy of light is used to convert carbon dioxide into organic compounds. The balanced chemical equation for the overall process of photosynthesis is: 6COв‚‚ + 12Hв‚‚O в†’ C₆Hв‚Ѓв‚‚O₆ + 6Oв‚‚+ 6Hв‚‚O (Wilson, Nivillac, Sheng, 2016, p.145) Photosynthesis occurs in two different processes: the light reaction and the Calvin cycle. This lab focuses on the light reaction stage of photosynthesis in which the light energy is captured by pigment molecules and utilize energy to synthesize NADPH and ATP, resulting in the production of oxygen (Oв‚‚) (Wilson, Nivillac, Sheng, 2016, p.146). The Adventists came about during the 19th century and began with the Millerite Movement ( Seventh Day Adventists , 2013). The movement was started by an American Baptist preacher by the name of William Miller, who believed that the Second Coming the return of Christ to Earth would occur between March 21, 1843 and March 21, 1844 ( Seventh Day Adventism , 2004). This prediction was largely based off Daniel 8:14 in the Bible (See slide 4). Joseph insisted that his followers observe the Jewish Sabbath worshipping on Saturday instead of Sunday worships. These two groups stayed separate until a women by the name of Ellen White, a well known supporter and a believed prophet, combined their ideas and the trio established the Seventh Day Adventist denomination, which recieved it s official name in 1860 ( Seventh Day Adventism ). The Church was moved to Washington D.C and the neighboring community of Takoma Park, Maryland in 1903 and again to Silver Spring, Maryland in 1989, where it still resides today ( Seventh Day Adventists , 2013). • 11. The Growing Importance Of Ethical Business Managers The Growing Importance of Ethical Business Managers Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw (2010) describe that the need for ethical business managers and practices has never been greater. Recent financial scandals have exposed issues in the management decision making process, suggesting a need to develop the necessary analytical and empathetic qualities so future corporate leaders may be moral managers (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). This recent pattern of business misconduct (Michaelson, 2015) and single minded pursuit of profit has made the promotion of ethical values a key concern for modern business organizations (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). This paper will discuss how literary fiction (i.e. novels, literature, narrative, fiction, drama, comics) can help organizations develop ethical managers by discussing (1) the growing importance of ethical business managers (2) the benefits of a novel approach to business ethics, and (3) the moral value of literary fiction to business. During the past few years, many companies have seen their reputations plummet in the wake of various corporate scandals (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). With this context of an amoral and inept set of global management practices, Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw (2010) propose the need for a new breed of manager, namely the moral manager. While Eastwood describes that leadership is an essentially moral act, he elaborates that there is a disconnection between this notion and the behavior of some business ... Unfortunately, as a peer to peer network grows it becomes more difficult to maintain due to its lack of centralized control which makes it un scalable. With the addition of fifty individual workstations, security access and file storage control remains in the hands of the user. For example, should someone decide to delete a company file, there would be no way of knowing. Subjective evidence is how the patient interprets the working of his own mind. It includes what he reports about his thoughts and feelings including any uncomfortable sensations or distressing thoughts. Objective evidence on the other hand is measurable. He takes into consideration not only the patient s mental state but also the patient s general physical health, psychosocial or environmental problems, their ability to integrate into society and take care of themselves. Subjective evidence includes the thoughts and feelings of the patient. It comprises of the symptoms the patient is reporting and the level of distress he is experiencing. A patient suffering from depression for example might report symptoms of having dark thoughts, feeling blue, can complain of persistent low mood, outbursts of crying, decreased appetite and activity levels, lack of sleep. These are all examples of subjective evidence. Objective evidence about the condition includes any signs noticeable to the clinician that can be taken as an indication of mental disease. This can include slumped posture, poor hygiene, scruffy appearance, sadness, crying, sighing or pacing. Lack of appetite can be a symptom a depressed person is complaining about, while the amount of weight loss is measurable and objective. Aches, pains and flulike symptoms may not have any biological basis in the body but can be psychosomatic manifestations of the depression. Moreover depression usually accompanies many severe, long term conditions. However, although some women are objectified or possibly marginalized, this claim of inequality does not always hold true. Especially in the book of Judges, women are not discarded as characters and are not wholly unappreciated. In fact, the book of Judges features many strong female characters who serve in significant roles, and who are effectively portrayed as leaders, heroes, and capable, resourceful individuals. It is even Deborah herself who gives the call to charge against Sisera s army, while Barak and his soldiers comply. In Judges 5, commonly referred to as the Song of Deborah , praises are sung in honor of this female military leader, who acts as a mother in Israel. Some scholars have even noted parallels drawn between Deborah and the Canaanite war goddess, Anat (Ackerman 177). Additionally, Deborah is respected as a religious figure. For example, Barak refuses to go to war without Deborah by his side. According to Jo Ann Hackett, Barak s refusal to fight without the presence of Deborah is not indicative of his ineptitude or of her military prowess. Rather, Hackett proposes that Barak requests Deborah s participation because, as a prophetess and as a leader chosen by the Lord, her presence indicates divine support (Hackett 357). If Deborah were visible to the Israelite soldiers, morale would be lifted with the thought that the Lord would deliver the enemy into their hands. This shows that Deborah is thought to represent the will of God. Rabbi Steinsaltz notes that the phenomenon of prophetesses in the history of nations is usually relegated to women who are outside the circle of life (e.g. hermitesses, or virgins dedicated to this specific role) (Shapira 28). Deborah, however, is an exception. Although she is a prophetess, she is also relevant in society, and fulfills multiple roles. She successfully leads the charge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

King is accused of being an extremist, to which he responds: Will we be extremists for hate or for love? (King 26). A bold statement, phrasing action as having two distinct sides. King strongly disavows the white moderate who stands to the side and waits for justice to come with time, instead of fighting for justice in the moment. He has worked his way up from the Illinois State Senate to the US Senate then officially sworn in as president on January 20, 2009. The portrayal of Mark Watney s separation, habitation of mars, and recovery will all be analyzed. The way Mark gets separated from the crew is an area of inaccuracy. There are storms on mars, but the strength of them would be much less significant. Mars has no atmosphere so the winds would not be able to knock over the ship [1]. Though the storms may be dangerous to humans due to flying debris, such a large ship would not be so affected. The debris would not be as dangerous as shown. Even the strongest winds, up to 60 mph, on mars would have trouble keeping the astronauts from moving around, and would have a tough time picking up anything even remotely tied down [1]. The chance of debris knocking someone back and impaling them like what happened to Mark Watney would be very unlikely. The way habitation of Mars is portrayed is a mixed bag of accuracy. The gravity on Mars is 30% that of the earth, yet Watney moves around like any earthling [2]. This makes the movie easier to film, and if they had attempted to portray the gravity accurately, there would have been inaccuracies anyway. Radiation seems to be ignored almost completely besides for the device he uses to heat his rover. Being on mars for extended periods of time would increase the chances of cancer. NASA only allows 200 rem per year [4], which Watney would almost certainly exceed being on a planet with no atmosphere to protect from the Sun s radiation. This was probably left out as it would likely not have immediate effects on Watney but it s still a big concern for real astronauts. Communication was portrayed fairly accurately. The movie says the communication speed is 30 minutes there and back. Since mars is 54.6 million miles away, data traveling at the speed of light would take 3 minutes to get there [2]. Once data processing, inaccuracy, and other factors are accounted for, 30 minutes is realistic. (54.6 x 10^6 km)(1 hour/1.079 x 10^9 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Catlyn and I agreed to explore the area around Hampton, starting near our hotel. We found a pamphlet for a group of outlet stores. Upon further inspection of the pamphlet, we realized that outlets were in Maine. This fact had confused us. To our knowledge New Hampshire and Maine seemed too far for a day s drive. As our parents didn t have the pleasure of knowing that we decided to drive to Maine, we thoughtfully sent them a picture of the Welcome to Maine sign, leaving them to question why we left the state. We arrived at Kittery sometime near noon. After walking around in the summer heat, we stopped at a Bose factory store. The moment we walked into the store we fell under a trance to try on every single pair of headphones. Ooh, noise cancelling, my sister said with a sarcastic tone. We compared pairs of headphones and enjoyed the cool air conditioning. We had to pick up every pair and check, possibly double check, the cushions and the way the headphones felt when we wore them. The time spent in the Bose store was well needed as the air conditioning was perfectly set to cool us during the warm day. After our folly in the store we decided to check the rest of the outlet stores to possibly find more nonsensical things to mess around with. We stopped into a store called Brookstone after. In the middle of the structure is a small square semi enclosed courtyard. Utilizing that courtyard, my favorite place on the whole campus, I will conduct an autoethnography. In my autoethnography I will analyze what about the courtyard I love so much and what those things convey about my relationship with myself and others as well as my position within society. Autoethnographies combine elements of both autobiographies and ethnographies. Specifically, autoethnographies are academic essays that are introspective and narrative oriented looks at the self, much like autobiographies and memoirs. However, autoethnographies are set apart from autobiographies and journals in that they join that introspection with ethnographic research methods concerned with connections between community and the self. Due to their unique nature, ethnographies are beneficial in enhancing cultural understanding of the connections between groups and individuals, as well as the self; and have the potential ability to transform the self and others through the cross cultural building of bonds and understanding (Chang 2007). Using public and locations can be a helpful tool in self insight, as they encompass a specific discourse (Thomas 1987). During my journey at Seattle Pacific University, I have been attending different church traditions in order to find my own individual faith. One church that I have attended is Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church. Since the Orthodox practices seemed abundantly different from the services that I grew up with, I was hesitant but also excited and interested in their faith. Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Churchwas established in 1999 and is located in Shoreline, Washington. Their mission statement is to be an extended village, welcoming and encouraging both adults and children to participate in the Orthodox Christian Faith, as we grow together, like the Holy Apostles, to know, love and serve Jesus Christ . The congregation invites any person that is interested in learning more about the Orthodox faith or is a member of the faith to join them in worship at their parish. Boys testicles begin to grow, and this probably hasn t happened almost since they were born. As a first step in puberty, this makes sense because the testicles have two important functions: 1. they produce testosterone, the male hormone that sets off all of the other changes in males during puberty; and 2. they produce sperm the most important biological outcome of puberty. Soon after a boy s genitals begin to grow, pubic hair makes its first appearance, usually above the base of the penis. Over the next few years, the hair grows and spreads until it is dense and surrounds the genitals, and then it spreads to the thighs and upward toward the belly button. Firstly, brake pads are a key component to your car because it is what allows you to stop. Water has a different specific heat than copper which has a different specific heat than gold. The reasoning behind this is the same reason why different substances have different melting and boiling points. Water for example has a very high specific heat needing 4.186 joule/gram В°c to raise 1 gram by 1 В°c. Why does water have such a high specific heat? Well, when something heats up, the particles vibrate and the more hot the object gets the faster they move. Waters molecules are not easily movable because of its molecular structure. Water molecules have a strong bond to each other because of the polarity of the molecule. One side is very positive and the other very negative. It is difficult to move or break these bonds because the positive is attracted to the negative. So what does that have to do with specific heat? The answer is that water has such a high specific heat because it is a polar liquid. hypothetically if water was not so polar it would have a lower specific heat because the bonds would not be so attracted to each ...
