The Discovery Of The Guatemalan Archives
The latter part of this course, we read Kristen Weld s book Paper Cadavers. This book captured
the importance of the discovery of the Guatemalan archives. An intense amount of work was put
into recovering approximately 80 million documents from the government after decades of
internal warfare. This reconstruction of public memory was extremely important for those
involved in recovering and sifting through the documents, the families and friends who lost
people during the civil war, to Guatemala and the discovery also held significance international
(Weld). A few years later in March of 2008 files were seized by the Colombian Armed Forced
during a raid. These archives belonged to the insurgent group called The Revolutionary Armed
Forced of ColombiaPeople s Army or FARC. The files belonged personally to Raul Reyes (a
leader of FARC) who was killed during the raid along with 24 other insurgent members (Walser).
This led to some controversy about the files later on. The Colombian Armed Forces handed over
the archives to Interpol, so they could be decoded and analyzed. These two sets of documents are
different discoveries of public memory that impacted lives as public memory was reconstructed.
They exposed human rightsviolations through their (re)discovery and release to the public. The
files taken from FARC were handed straight to Interpol for forensic investigation. In total there were
eight computers that were seized. Interpol found that none of the documents recovered

The Need to Belong Essay
It is an inherent part of human nature to want to belong
Belonging as defined by the Oxford dictionary is a multifaceted concept, yet being every
individual s inherent desire to belong. Belonging is a universal concept. Those who don t find a
sense of belonging are certain to find themselves under the destructive cycle of isolation and self
alienation. Peter Skrzynecki s Immigrant Chronicles serves to highlight the basic fundamental
desire to belong and the importance it holds on each individual. This notion is further explored
with Skrzynecki s poems St Patrick s College , Feliks Skrzynecki and Gabrielle Muccino s 21st
century film Pursuit of Happyness . The notion of belonging being an inherent part of human nature

Feliks Skrzynecki is the persona s father and is expressed as a barrier to his belonging as he couldn
t connect to their Polish culture. There is use of possessive pronouns throughout the poem to
demonstrate the inheritance of belonging from father and _____, My father . Although this shifts
overtime from my to his , the use of the pronoun his reveals dislocation and disconnectedness
between the persona and his father. The protagonist felt a disconnection with his father, but desired
to belong, but couldn t find that connection and a strong sense of belonging. Inheritance of human
nature to belong is explicitly explored within 10 Mary Street. This poem reveals how pure
connection to birth place, locality amongst family extensively initiates belonging and the sense of
adhesiveness and connectedness. The persona describes his home and his parents sense of
belonging through their beloved garden . There s a symbol of importance of belonging through
their garden. Grew rows of Carneilla and rows of sweet corn , emphasizing ownership and a
pleasant sense of imagery. Like a bird, eating pumpkins I promised myself I d lay off . The
symbolism of a bird resembles a sense of freedom within their placing. Belonging being an inherent
part of human nature is explored within Gabrielle Muccino s 21st Century film pursuit of
happyness . This film reveals great meaning and one s desire to belong. The protagonist, Chris

Mary Frank Jackson Physical Analysis
Frank Jackson describes a thought experiment about a character name Mary. Mary is in a black
and white room and learns from black and white books, and lectures from black and white
televisions. She has knowledge about everything in the physical world, and vast knowledge about
subjects consisting of physics, chemistry, and neurophysiology. The idea of physicalismstates that
the world is entirely physical, and if someone has complete knowledge of the physical world then
they would know everything there is to know. This would mean that Mary would have complete
physical knowledge about colors. However Jackson proves that the world has physical aspect, but
it is not completely physical because there is aspect such as qualia. In this thought experiment, he
shows that Mary is released out of this black and white room, and... Show more content on

If physicalism is true then if you have complete physical knowledge then you have complete
knowledge of the world. Jackson describes how despite her fantastic grasp of neurophysiology
and everything else physical, she cannot imagine what it is like to sense red; it is that, as a
matter of fact, she would not know (282). While she is in the room she learns everything about
the physical world, and has the ability to imagine the things that she cannot see but Jackson states
that imagination disproves phyiscalism. For example, while she was in the room she can imagine
what red feels like based on her reading. However, she cannot actually have this experience
because there would not be any facts in the books that will describe the feeling of when we see
something new. Since there is no information in these books, Jackson proves that there is new
information that Mary learns when she is released that isn t physical information. This also explains
that no matter how hard she tries to imagine the world outside the room, she can truly feel

relationship to becoming inseparable and switching roles causing Eliezer to have anger towards
his father. Before they know what is to transpire, their relationship is nonchalant showing little
emotion and support. Eliezer s father is a well respected man in his community and has a better
connection with them than his family: He rarely displays his feelings, not even within his family,
and was more involved with the welfare of others than with that of his own kid (Wiesel 4). Being

Dualism In Stephen King
Aside from Shakespeare and Stevenson there are a plethora of authors who are as proficient or
possibly more adept at portraying the theme of a book, play, or poem. One considerable example
is Stephen King. He is an otherwise unusual author. King s books seem to depict theme in a
extraordinary way. His atrocious book IT has a rather nightmarish way of illustrating plot and
theme. The book, though rather monstrous and horrifying, is a great read for young adults.
King does an exceptional job at representing duality in IT. The story follows the lives of seven
children as they are tormented by a infernal entity that feeds off the fears and phobias of its
victims to disguise itself while preying on little kids. The creature, or It predominantly appears
in the form of a clown to draw its preferred prey of young children. All the while each member of
the group has encountered the terrifying life forms manifestation in its various shape shifting
disguises; these include a malevolent clown for Richie, a headless boy for Ben, a fountain of
blood for Beverly, a diseased and rotting man known as a Leper for Eddie, a creepy painting come
to life for Stan, Mike s parents burning alive, and finally an apparition of Georgie for Bill. King
s main motive was to insinuate fear in the lives of kids, in his book IT. Most children, around the
age of 10 12, are afraid of something.. King stated in a 2013 interview that he came up with the
idea for Pennywise after asking himself what scared

Tom Stoppard and the Crime-Writing Genre
Mankind has perpetually maintained a fascination with what constitutes a crime and enjoyed
piecing together the clues that authors of the crime genre provide us in solving their mysteries, thus
appealing to our curiosity in the darker side of our humanity. The crime writing genre embodies
humankind in its fullest, revealing our potential for both good and evil, a notion that is responsible
for the genres cross contextual survival and universal appeal. It is due to this undying interest that
writers of crime texts have the ability to subvert conventions and thereby deconstruct the
philosophical and psychological assumptions that crime fiction is constructed upon. By subverting
the conventions of the crime writing genre, composers are able to more freely explore issues
concerning their respective contexts, a significant factor that has contributed to the genre s
endurance. Tom Stoppard s play The Real Inspector Hound is a post modern text which utilises its
absurdist nature to reflect the nihilistic philosophy of crime. The text simultaneously adheres to and
discards the conventions of the crime genre through its employment of parody and its satirical
characteristics.
Tom Stoppard s The Real Inspector Hound , first performed in 1968, is a one act play and dual
satire of Agatha Christie s conventional Golden Age, cosy locked room mystery The Mousetrap and
the crime writing genre itself. Though the setting of the action is in a theatre, the play within a play

The History of Poodles
The origin of the Poodles can be traced back to Germany where the dog breed was known as the
Pudelhund. The word Pudel means to splash in water while the word Hund means dog. Before the
modern day, Poodles were hunting dogs specialized in retrieving objects in the water. The puffs of

Downsides of Poodles

1. Poodles are one of the dog breeds that require very high maintenance. Their curly coat needs to
be clipped regularly every six to eight weeks. They are considered the most expensive dogs in
terms of grooming. This is because Poodles have hair coats rather than fur. Hair coats are
hypoallergenic and rarely shed, but which grow continuously.
2. Poodles are naturally proud and smart. The combination of the two can sometimes lead to
stubbornness. Train them as early as you can so they will grow up to be well mannered dogs.
3. Poodles love to socialize and please other people. Do not expect them to be alright when you

The Common Era Fransisco Goya
In 1814 of the common era Fransisco Goya painted The Third of May, 1808. This painting shows
us the horrors that happened that day in Madrid when hundreds of Spaniards rebelled the French
were sent in to slaughter them. All but one of the Spaniards in this painting are cowering over to
hide from the death that awaits them The one man who s not cowering is standing there with open
arms ready to embrace the sacrifice he s making for his country. Around 1599 1600 of the common
era Caravaggio painted The Calling of Matthew. This painting is of the tax collector Matthew being
called upon by Christ. More specifically Matthew is sitting with his fellow tax collectors counting
the money collected from the day.
When looking at these works they both give me a strange feeling. Goya s painting is more
depressing than anything, but it almost makes me feel proud of the man in the center as he
displays true heroism. The soldiers are comical to me as all I can think about upon looking at
them is the Winki Guard from the Wizard of Oz. The long coats and the tall fuzzy hats resemble
those from the movie. Caravaggio s painting is mysterious in the regard that the shadows conceal
the men looking and pointing toward Matthew. To add to it everyone around the table is looking at
them quite concerned and confused. Overall this painting doesn t really appeal to me in any
regard. However, I can appreciate the shadow work in both paintings.

Balbir Singh Sodhi was fatally shot on September 15, 2001 in Mesa, Arizona. Like others, Sodhi,

A sign that tempers and fear haven t cooled over the years was the recent battle over what has

The State Of Michig A Fascinating Area
The state of Michigan is a fascinating area. From its mitten like shape, to its historical
background, to the presence of the Great Lakes, Michigan has a story unlike any others. One very
important part of Michigan s story is how water has shaped the land making up the state. Seeing as
the Great Lakes surround Michigan, it is obvious that the hydrologic system plays a great role in
the water supply and the ecosystem of the Great Lakes. The hydrologic cycle includes evaporation,
condensation, precipitation, groundwater, transpiration and runoff, all of which keep the Great
Lakes functioning year after year. The University Corporation of Atmospheric Research
developed an image to simply explain the hydrologic cycle as well as graphs explaining how each
of the elements of the hydrologic cycle affects The Great Lakes on a monthly basis (located below).
The hydrologic cycle keeps the Great Lakes up and running. Without it, Michigan would not
have the inhabitants it does today. The abundant supply of water allows a vast array of wildlife
to live in Michigan, and made it a desirable place for early settlers to inhabit. However, the Great
Lakes did not just appear out of thin air. There is a long history of how the Great Lakes came to be.
The long history of the formation of the Great Lakes and Michigan start with the impact of
glaciers. Throughout history, there have been four major periods where glaciers moved across
Michigan, shaping and forming the land. Every time a glacier

Compare And Contrast Tsunamis And Hurricanes
The warm sun is hitting your body. You can feel the squishy sand between your toes, and the waves
are coming ashore. It is going to be a great day, right? Tsunamis and hurricanes are natural
phenomena that cause mass destruction in an instant. Tsunamis are giant waves caused by
earthquakes in the ocean; whereas, hurricanes are large funnels of water and debris originating
from the ocean. Tsunamis and hurricanes start in the ocean, and both cause mass destruction when
they hit land, but they are still two completely different storms. The most noticeable difference
between a tsunamiand a hurricane is the cause of each. A tsunami is the aftermath of an underwater
earthquakeor volcanic eruption. The force of the earthquake or eruption, along with the moving of
the tectonic plates, sends large amounts of water in all directions. The waves can be thousands of
feet high when they reach the shoreline. These giant waves can arrive at a moment s notice with no
warning. The tsunami is a large natural phenomenon originating from the ocean, but it is not the
only phenomenon to start in the ocean.
Hurricanes are mainly found in the Atlantic and Caribbean. Hurricanes in the Pacific are called
typhoons. A more general term for these storms is a tropical cyclone. Hurricanes are named, and the

Hangover Research Paper
The problem with hangover remedies? That you re already hung over to begin with. You can have
a Bloody Mary and eggs to soothe your throbbing headache and unruly guts, but that usually means
the treacherous haul from your bed (or someone else s) to brunch. And that s just too much
discomfort to face after a good night of partying.
As has often been said, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of hangover cure. But is there any
way to actually prevent hangovers other than to, you know, not drink?
Maybe! Enter Drinkwel, an alcohol nutrition supplement that promises short term relief and long

The combination of vitamins and antioxidants combat the effects of drinking on your entire body
not just your headache and they promote overall nutrition.
I decided to put the magic pills to the test over my five year college reunion because I was
obviously going to get faced there. The trick, McAdams told us, is to start taking the vitamins prior
to any night of heavy drinking. It s not about one off prevention but boosting up your system over
time.
But, as ICP might ask, how does it work?
Like most pills that claim to prevent or assuage hangovers, it s a mix of natural ingredients
designed to support the organs that have to work the hardest to cleanse your body of sweet,
poisonous alcohol. But since hangovers themselves aren t an exact science ( Toxins? Dehydration?
Vitamin depletion?), it s hard to say exactly what you re curing. Thankfully, Drinkwel takes a broad
spectrum approach. From their site:
1. Milk Thistle, Bupleurum other botanicals to support liver health.
2. Amino acids to help process alcohol induced toxins.
3. Superfruits rich in antioxidants to neutralize free radicals.
4. Vitamin B Complex to aid metabolism and maintain

The Contradiction Between Neorealism And Realism
Events which took place after the end of the Cold War and the disintegration of the USSR, and in
particular for the first year of the XXI century, demanded political scientists, sociologists,
geopolitics, as well as psychologists revision of views on the theory of international relations. The
variety of theories and attitudes existing today can ultimately be reduced to three known paradigms:
realist (including classical realismand neorealism), liberal (traditional idealism and neo liberalism)
and neo Marxist, each of which comes from its understanding of the nature and character of
international relations. I suppose that today it is relevant to look at the contradiction between
neorealism and neoliberalism.
For the theory of political realism, the concept of interest defined in terms of power is the central,
as well as the related concept of balance of power, geopolitical strategy, etc. In neorealism, which
was first outlined by Kenneth Waltz, these accents are slightly displaced. Defending a structural
understanding of power, neo realism does not reduce the balance of power to the military
component, and includes economic, information and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the end of the cold war the credibility of political realism was seriously shaken. Some of the
representatives of neorealism began to call themselves liberal realists or utopian realists , thus

without questioning the realist thesis about the radical difference of political interactions within the
state and in the international arena, believe that the whole nature of international relations is
changing in the direction of mature anarchy in which Western liberal democratic States are able to
play the role of guarantor of international security and progress is made available to all, including

Social Conformity In The Fountainhead, By Ayn Rand
In a world plagued by the infinite expansion of corruptness, human beings are tainted by the
natural tendency to succumb to the horrors of social conformity. This social conditioning is the
source of all challenges that individuals are faced with in life. In the masterpiece The
Fountainhead, by Ayn Rand, the protagonist Howard Roark is considered to be a moral ideal that
others must attempt to mirror. In the midst of unimaginable distress and agony, Roark remains
valiant and never ceases to remain true to himself. Rand considered this trait to be one in which
society should abide by a quality of stubbornness to shuffle into the river of social acceptance.
While many regard Roark to be an outstanding role model, to imitate his ideals would... Show more

While Howard Roark has a unique way of living his life, based on objectivism, attempting to
emulate this behavior is a paradox upon itself. Roark does not wish to be the symbol of anything.
[He s] only [himself] (602). While creating a character who is a moral ideal to emulate might have
been what Ayn Randwished while writing The Fountainhead, she is contacting the very beliefs that
Roark abides by. Roark is a man of honor and dignity a man who would never turn his back on
his morals. The most important rule of Roark s philosophy is to be able to stand by one s
beliefs. If an individual attempts to emulate Roark s morals, then he/she is breaking the
fundamental concept of objectivism. As stated in plain text by Roark, reason can be fought with
reason (346). While the reasoning behind emulating Roark s behavior may be valid, it is
impossible for one to do so without disgracing the objectivistic lifestyle. While Howard Roark is
an exceptional character in literature that has made a profound mark on the advancement of
human growth, who is to say that the polar opposite of Roark could not also be considered a

Challenges Of Children With Hiv
Challenges of Children with HIV
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is widely recognized as a biological and medical problem
for individuals that have this illness, but the psychosocial aspects of this disease also creates
serious issues for these individuals. The population of American children and adolescents living
with HIV face a range of psychosocial challenges which stem from a combination of biological,
socioeconomical, psychological, and cultural factors. For younger children, some challenges are
related to the parent s status as HIV positive, along with other parental factors that can also
contribute to chronic problems. While medication is available to treat HIV and the subsequent

However, HIV continues to impact youth between 13 to 24 disproportionately; around 39,000
people in this age group are living with HIV, and this age group constitutes some 21% of new
cases, or around 3,000 per year (CDC, 2014). Unlike HIV incidence rates for the population as a
whole, which have decreased over time, the incidence rates for youth over 13 have actually
increased with time, in part because 60% of youth are not yet aware they are infected, as compared
to 15% of adults with HIV (CDC, 2014). For any youth under 18, though, living with HIV involves
a set of complex psychosocial challenges that can drastically impact treatment, health, and quality of
life outcomes. The uniqueness and gravity of these issues, along with the size of the affected
population, mean that the psychosocial aspects of HIV must be treated as critical considerations in
disease management in this population.
Parental Factors
For infants and young children living with HIV, some of the most prominent psychosocial issues
are related to parental factors, including factors in the medical, economic, and behavioral areas. The
presence or absence of HIV infection in young children and infants born to a mother with HIV can
have socioeconomic influences. Combination therapies involving antiretroviral drugs during

How Does Stock Market Volatility Affect The Mortgage...
You may not think much about the stock market when thinking of buying a house because you
probably don t think there is any relationship between the two. However, it is important to keep
track of stock market performance, especially during times of volatility because it does have a
direct impact on your cost of home ownership.
Cheap financing is a major driver of the mortgage industry. When buyers can access cheap funds, it
serves as an encouragement to purchase houses while high interest rates dampen enthusiasm.
Prospective home buyers therefore need to keep an eye on the stock market in determining when
it is the best time to make a purchase as this could mean paying more or less for your home in the
long term.

Since mortgages form a significant portion of this market, the implication is an increase in money
supply for mortgages and therefore a lowering of interest rates. This means that buyers can access
cheaper funds to finance their home purchase.
Volatility in the stock prices can impact on the cost of home ownership because of its relationship to
mortgage interest rates. Although it isn t the only factor that affects mortgage rates, other economic
such as unemployment rate, inflation and the effect of demand and supply are still tied to the stock
market in one way or the other. The reason for this is that stock prices are quite sensitive to
economic uncertainties and subsequently sends a ripple effect of changes on other sectors
including housing.
On the other hand, an upward movement in the prices of stocks attracts investors leading to bonds
sell off and fund movement from bonds to stocks. The implication of this is an increase in interest

Dorian Gray Closet
Oscar Wilde s The Picture of Dorian Gray has several major preoccupations which are integral in
understanding the depths in which it goes in formulating its central message. The novel presents
itself almost as an essay, with a preface concluding with the statement All art is quite useless
(Wilde 4). From this preface, to its conclusion, it deals with the role of art as catharsis for the
artist; however, not only as a release of emotion, but also as a closet for the artist s innermost
desires. The novel literally expresses this through its first lines, The artist is the creator of
beautiful things / to reveal art and conceal the artist is art s aim (Wilde 3). Thus, art acts as a
vehicle to conceal that which the person truly yearns and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrative of the novel displays the fallibility of art as a closet by means of this portrait.
When the artist imbues their sins and virtues into the very foundation of their work, they
become visible for all audiences. Dorian may not paint the portrait, but he shares a similar
relationship with it; it is him it reflects. The portrait mirrors Dorian and paints his longings on a
canvas for all to see: the face on the canvas bear the burden of his passions and his sins; that the
painted image might be seared with the lines of suffering and thought, and that he might keep
all the delicate bloom [...] Eternal youth, infinite passion, passions subtle and secret, wild joys
and wilder sins he was to have all these things. The portrait was to bear the burden of his shame
(Wilde 77, 88). The portrait embodies Dorian, everything he does, everything he wants, and
everything he feels, the portrait projects. This further perpetuates the closet analogy; however, it
also circumvents the metaphor itself, art does not conceal, it reveals. When Basil Hallward
perceives the fruit of his labor after Dorian infuses it with himself, his response shows the
portrait s failure to conceal: There was something in its expression that filled him with disgust
and loathing [...] it was from within, apparently, that the foulness and horror had come. Through
some strange quickening of inner life the leprosies of sin were slowly eating the thing away
(Wilde 130 2). Art in this scenario fails as a closet and lays bare the sins of Dorian Gray, it is
unable to hide that which he desires. Wilde states that Those who go beneath the surface do so at
their peril. / Those who read the symbol do so at their peril (Wilde 3) but here, there is no beneath.
The hidden intentions the work professes are visible from a brief

Effects Of Ship Pollution
ISSUES AND CHALLENGES OF SHIPPING IN MITIGATING THE ENVIRONMENT
POLLUTION
Abstract: Life itself arose from the oceans. The ocean is vast, covering 140 million square miles,
some 72 per cent of the earth s surface. Not only has the oceans always been a prime source of
nourishment for the life it helped generate, but from earliest recorded history it has served for trade
and commerce, adventure and discovery. It has kept people apart and brought them together.
Humans have always had a close relationship with the aquatic environment, including the early use
of the sea for food harvesting and communication. Today, the sea is an important component of the
transportation system, with large amounts of cargo and passengers. This chapter provides a short
introduction to ships and shipping also introduces the environmental impacts related to ship
operations. Ship transportation has increased tremendously since the industrial revolution, which
has resulted in increased emissions due to shipping and increased stresses on the environment.

and attempt to apply Jackendoff s First Fundamental Argument which argues that a language user s

Camouflage being one of the most impressive aspects of octopuses intelligence, scientists under the
direction of Antonio P. Cribeiro, conducted an exercise designed to see to what extent the skin of
octopuses was capable to adapt to its surroundings. The experiment was divided into three parts:
First, a few octopuses were introduced to a closed glass box (in full view of potential predators)
containing items such as rocks, sand, and algae which are found in their natural environments.
Unsurprisingly, this resulted in the octopuses adapting effortlessly to their surroundings. Then, the
items inside the glass box were replaced by a piece of canvas printed with a geometric pattern,
something that an octopus would never encounter in its natural habitat. The colors of the canvas
were not random, however, but corresponded to the pigmentation abilities of octopuses. Once again,

A Study On Capital Structure Theory Essay
Literature Review
Capital structure theory has long been a controversial issue in the finance literature.
The two Novel laureates, Franco Modigliani and Metron Miller (here after called M M) were the
first to present a formal model in 1958 on valuation of capital structure in corporate finance theory
and is still the cornerstone of modern corporate finance. MM were the first to take a sharp look at
the relationship between Capital Structure and the cost of capital. In their seminal papers (1958,
1963), they states some propositions. In proposition I they postulated that debt has no value for
firms in a tax free world. In a no tax scenario the investors can offset the debt by replicating its
financial actions. This proposition got the name MM theory of irrelevance . Though their
proposition theoretically sounds good but it is only valid under perfect market conditions (no tax
is one of them) which were not actually possible in real world. They corrected this proposition in
1963 incorporating the effect of tax on value and cost of the capital of the firm (Modigliani and
Miller 1963). Their new proposition II contends that, in the world of corporate tax, the value of the
firm depends on the variation of the debt level and tax shield benefit on interest payments.
When corporate taxes are taken into consideration, the value of a firm increases linearly with debt
equity ratio because of interest payments being tax exempted. M M s work has been at the centre
stage of the

An Unequal Distribution Of Wealth And Power Across The Nation
Living in America, I have always been aware of fact that there is an unequal distribution of
wealth and power across the nation. However, I was unaware that there is such a significant gap
between the rich and the poor. It was made clear in the video Wealth Inequality in America , that
the top 1% has more power and wealth than the middle and poor classes. The rich can get away
with not paying their taxes and sitting on their pile of free money. In the meantime, the poorest
people are down to the loose change in their pockets and are still paying their taxes. Corporations
today have more privileges in America, including a voice in the democracy. People like us are
being excluded from important decision making regarding our economic lives. Our understanding
of what s going on with the wealth distribution and the actuality of what s going on is two
completely different things. So you may ask, what s the reason behind this inequality? The
answer is corporations and big businesses. Corporations such as Bank of America, Nike, Google,
Apple, and Microsoft are rising to power. Corporations have also completely diminished the
original intent of our Founding Fathers. According to Collin and Yeskel s Economic Apartheid in
America , it s sad to say that many Americans are unaware of these things and it s starting to affect
us as a country day by day. But while the truth of the economy may be difficult to understand,
Collins, Yeskel, and Perkins clarified and changed my views on the

Examples Of Sustainment Operations
When is comes to recent examples of sustainment operations, I think it would be fair to say that in
both Iraq and Afghanistan, sustainment is the largest portion of what we as an Army have been
doing. To be sure, there are many Soldiers and operators who attacked and maneuvered in order to
destroy, defeat, delay, divert, etc. However, most of us were there to support and sustain those
operations. You cannot win a war without the three sustainment elements of logistics, personnel
services, and health service support. I would say that sustainment operations in the recent theaters
of operation have been a tremendous success. If there have been failures in the realm of
sustainment, they have come in the form of paying too much

The Effect of Advertisements and Commericals on Television
Advertisements and commercials have been an integral part of American history for many years.
Since the invention of the newspaper, people in the United States and lots of other countries have
been heavily influenced by advertisements. These ingenious tools are used to make people desire to
buy a product or contribute to the success of a product in some way. In more modern history
advertisements have been implemented into television and other mediums of mass media. Because
so many people watch television everyday it is the perfect tool to advertise with. Also, the
advertisements must be interesting and have enough appeal to actually captivate the audience s
interest. The car insurancecompany Geicounderstands this concept very well. This... Show more

Old MacDonald is a classic nursery rhyme that every child hears at some point. This means that
anyone who sees the commercial will recognize this character and connect better with the
advertisement as a whole. The primary means of appeal for this commercial and all Geico
commercials over the past few years is humor. This particular commercial makes fun of old
MacDonald s spelling ability. In the nursery rhyme, an animal name is said followed by the
sounds e i e i o. The commercial flips this so that this is the way old MacDonald spells. This is
further exaggerated by the fact he is put into a spelling bee setting.
It may be a shock that Geico is actually owned by a much larger company. Berkshire Hathaway
Incorporated is the company that owns Geico. In fact, it also owns several other companies such
as Dairy Queen, Fruit of the Loom, Lubrizol and Helzberg Diamonds to name a few. A man by the
name of Warren Buffett the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway helped to gain better advertisements for
Geico by going through different advertising agencies. The advertising agency that Geico has had
the most success with by far is the Martin Agency. This agency has helped to develop Geico s
most famous advertisement campaigns. The Geico Gecko was actually brought about because of
the Martin Agency. It was very common for people to mispronounce Geico as gecko this sparked
an ingenious idea. The company would embrace this and make a gecko the official

What is it thinking? Thinking is an activity we do naturally and spontaneously, each moment, every

The reality is something we can perceive with the senses, but the reality is something hidden that
will not perceive the senses.
To any reality we get a lot of questions: what, why, for whom is, by whom, etc.. We ask for things
we do not perceive the senses. For this explains intelligence, or at least try to explain, unwrap,

This agglomeration of experience and knowledge, albeit from an analysis of history, are to be

Edward Theodore Gein (1906 1984), known as The Butcher of Plainfield, was an American serial
killer guilty of the murder of at least two women between 1947 and 1957.
Ed Gein was such a controversial and disturbing figure that his story inspired a lot of plots for
thriller movies and books, such as the character of Norman Bates in Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock
and Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs, a novel by Thomas Harris.
The life of Ed Gein was significantly marked by several factors: he spent his childhood with
George, an alcoholic and absent father, and Augusta, an overprotective and extremely religious
mother, obsessed by the idea that the world was populated by impure and sinful people. Ed had to

The definition of attachment involves an affectional bond that infants need to form with a
differentiated and preferred individual that becomes an attachment figure, consisting in a sustained
nurturing relationship with the sensitive caregiver (Bowlbly, 1979). Attachment is conceptualized
as an evolutionary feature: individuals can create a secure base around which one is able to
explore and gain independence as well as a safe haven to which individuals can return and be
reassured in a situation of distress or danger (Ainsworth et al., 1978; Bowlby, 1969).
On the contrary, unresponsive or atypical ways of parenting can lead to aberrant behaviours or, if
others risk factors are present, to psychopathology (Jacobsen, Edelstein, Hoffman, 1994; Schaffer,
1996). Secure attachment with the primary caregiver is necessary for social and emotional
regulation as well as cognitive and resilience abilities(Bowlby, 1982; Ainsworth Bell,1970); insecure
attachment affects individuals life in many aspects, especially the ability to face distress (Macbeth
et al., 2011), and not too rarely the aftermaths of an insane attachment can culminate in personality
disorders (Crawford et al.,

The Fundamental Concept Of The Finite Element Method
The fundamental concept of the finite element method is that a physical domain is discretised
into a small number of sub domains, known as elements, over which a continuous field variable
such as velocity, stress, pressure, or temperature can be approximated. These elements are
connected at specific points known as nodes or nodal points. Since the actual variation of the
field variable is not known inside the domain, approximating functions are needed to describe
this variation. These approximating functions interpolate the values of the field variable at the
nodal points of each element. Since the geometric and the required material properties of each
element are known, suitable field equations can be easily developed. From preliminary design

Subaru Cars Good Or Bad
Whether it is Impreza, Legacy or Forester, every Subaru car is a performance car. Equipped with its
traditional boxer engine and featuring all wheel drive, every Subaru car is a joy to ride.
Subaru is a Japanese automobile manufacturer and a division of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. While
Subaru is not as large as other Japanese automobile manufacturers, like Toyota, Mitsubishi, Isuzu
and Nissan, it still produces some of the best cars, including rally inspired Impreza models, which
are fun to drive. The power of Subaru cars is remarkable, and their fuel economy is exceptional.
Subaru cars are environment friendly too as they emit significantly lower emissions. In fact, Subaru
also offers PZEV (Partially Zero Emission Vehicle) certified Impreza, Legacy and Forester models
that have zero evaporative emissions! Overall, Subaru cars are impressive cars, and owning one or
several Subaru is not a bad idea at all.

Acute Diarrhoeal Diseases
DISCUSSION
Acute diarrhoeal diseases among the children are one of the most important problems affecting
children in the world, reducing their well being and creating considerable demand for health
services (WHO, 2010). Diarrhoeal diseases are leading cause of preventable death, especially
among children aged under five in developing countries. Diarrhoea is defined as a child with
loose or watery stool for three or more times during a 24 hour period. The frequency and severity
of diarrhoea are provoked by lack of access to enough clean water and sanitary throwing away of
human waste, insufficient feeding practices and hand washing; poor housing circumstances and
lack of access to sufficient and reasonable health care (Gerald et al., 2001). Escherichia coli
(EPEC) is a main cause of diarrhoea in infants and children in addition to pathogens such as
Salmonella, Shigella, Yersinia, Vibrio, Campylobacter sp., Entamoeba histolytica, and Giardia
lamblia in developing countries (Ahmed et al., 2009). Diarrhoeagenic E. coli is the major cause of
gastroenteritis in children in the developing world and is associated with high resistance intensity
to antibiotics (Ochoa et al., 2009).
Improper recommendation of antibiotics provoked resistance and increased infectious disease
mortality not only in developing countries but also in developed countries. Aging populations alter
in behaviour and a decline in the development of new antibiotics aggravated a fading situation

Tuberculosis Is A Disease Caused By Mycobacterium...
Introduction
When looking to educate myself on the most commonly seen health conditions in hospitals, I
turned to Mrs. Tonya Simpson RN, a registered nurse at St. Joseph hospital in New Jersey. Mrs.
Simpson informed me that Tuberculosis is a disease that she sees profusely at St. Joseph hospital.
During the interview I gained great insight on why she chose this particular disease, the etiology,
the frequency, prevalence, pathophysiology, signs/symptoms, treatments, and the prognosis of
Tuberculosis.
Etiology
During the interview with healthcare provider Mrs. Tonya Simpson, she when in great detail
explaining that Tuberculosis is a bacterial disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This is
a disease that affects the lungs and can be transmitted from person to person by coughing, face to
face conversing, sneezing, and even breathing the same air of an infected person can spread the
disease. A profuse amount of people have TB, but the bacteria is not active, which prevents them
from being contagious (T. Simpson, personal communication, March 25, 2015). It is only when the
disease is presented to be active that it can be transmitted. Seniors and children have a greater risk
to be infected with Tuberculosis due to their weak immune systems.
Incidence and Prevalence In 2013 Tuberculosis had a total of 9,588 new tuberculosis (TB) cases
reported in the United States, with an incidence rate of 3.0 cases per 100,000 population, a
decrease of 4.2% from 2012 (Negar Niki Alami,

Fate In The Play Oedipus By William Winter
Fate is always there. It always has, and it always will be there. We all can choose the decisions
we make, but fate cannot be changed, since it has already been predetermined. What happens
will happen, but what changes will not change fate. Fate is also what changes you, if you think
about it. All the events that have happened in the years of you being alive lead up to today; to
who you are. All the decisions you ve made would end up driving fate into taking its own toll on
future, driving up to where you currently are and making you who you are Fate is character
William Winter. In the play Oedipus by Sophocles, Jocasta s (who is Oedipus s wife and mother)
character would wind up changing because of fate. She did not choose for or expect for things to
have change in such a negative way. Jocasta was forced to see her husband figure out that he was
married to his mother She begged Oedipus not to go any further in the search of his true identity.
Perhaps she did this because she was romantically in love with Oedipus, or maybe because she
wanted things to stay as they were. This shows that Jocasta is secretive. When she found out that
the prophecies (that were told about Oedipus) were true, she automatically tried to hide it from

The Importance Of Intervention From The Arctic Council
The Arctic contributes a distinctive region which combines a unique biosphere and a wealth of
natural resources, which often become a source of controversy. This paper will argue that the
significant climate changes which are taking place in the Arctic Region open new pathways for
economic opportunism for Russia, which calls for radical intervention from the ArcticCouncil.
Firstly, this case study will give a framework of the main theory which will be used throughout in
order to justify the importance of intervention from the Arctic Council. The main theorist used is
Oran Young, who provides an agenda in how institutions such as the Arctic Council should function
effectively in the Arctic. Moreover, the climate changes which are taking... Show more content on

Furthermore, through institutionalism, one can understand that the lack of intervention from non
state actors contributes to this idea of economic logic over environmental sustainability. Arguably
based on institutionalism the European actors in the Arctic, which are familiar with intervention
from institutions, are influenced for instance by UNEP when it comes in to make a decision in the
specific area. Consequently, this is helpful to understand why a state such as Russia is more
economically and military antagonistic and less prone to cooperate with the other seven states of
the area over the natural resources in the Arctic.
Institutionalism is a theory which bases its principles of the idea that there is a need for stronger
global institutions and norms as well as sufficient state and local capacity to constrain and direct the
global political economy (Clapp and Dauvergne, 2011, 7). More specifically, the ideas of
institutionalism do not set aside ideas such as global economic growth and foreign investment in
areas of extreme wealth in natural resources such as the Arctic. Nonetheless, they simultaneously
underline the importance of environmental sustainability which is succeeded through the setting of
institutional norms which will channel a better environmental management in addition to
sustainable growth. As mentioned in the work of Oran Young, a political scientist

Research Paper On Palm Oil
Research: Palm oil should we use it? By Annabel Pezzutti. Issue Palm oil is one of the world s
most popular edible vegetable oil. Palm oil is used in most goods available at your local
supermarket. This particular oil is affordable but it comes at an immense cost to our environment.
Palm oilhas been connected to many human rights, animal, and environmental violations yet
organisations and companies all over the world persist in using this particular oil in just about
everything, in fact this popular oil is in about half of all products on store shelves. Including
products like soap, snacks, laundry detergent, cosmetics, and even ice cream. Scientific explanation
Palm oil is extracted from the fruit of the oil palmtree, Elaeis guineensis, which prospers in fairly
humid tropical climates. Most Palm oil production occurs in just two countries, Malaysia and
Indonesia, but now is spreading all over the tropics, including Africa. To produce these
plantations, deforestation has to occur and this process results in a loss of biodiversity and a loss
of habitat. The Human act of deforestation affects the water systems too, as rainforests produce
30% of the planet s fresh water. When forestry is demolished water isn t expelled into the
atmosphere and the stability is lost. This leads to a drier climate and soil because there are no trees
to transpire to the ground. why we shouldn t use It Palm oil too is not sustainably sourced and until
there is verification that changes

  • 2. The Discovery Of The Guatemalan Archives The latter part of this course, we read Kristen Weld s book Paper Cadavers. This book captured the importance of the discovery of the Guatemalan archives. An intense amount of work was put into recovering approximately 80 million documents from the government after decades of internal warfare. This reconstruction of public memory was extremely important for those involved in recovering and sifting through the documents, the families and friends who lost people during the civil war, to Guatemala and the discovery also held significance international (Weld). A few years later in March of 2008 files were seized by the Colombian Armed Forced during a raid. These archives belonged to the insurgent group called The Revolutionary Armed Forced of ColombiaPeople s Army or FARC. The files belonged personally to Raul Reyes (a leader of FARC) who was killed during the raid along with 24 other insurgent members (Walser). This led to some controversy about the files later on. The Colombian Armed Forces handed over the archives to Interpol, so they could be decoded and analyzed. These two sets of documents are different discoveries of public memory that impacted lives as public memory was reconstructed. They exposed human rightsviolations through their (re)discovery and release to the public. The files taken from FARC were handed straight to Interpol for forensic investigation. In total there were eight computers that were seized. Interpol found that none of the documents recovered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Need to Belong Essay It is an inherent part of human nature to want to belong Belonging as defined by the Oxford dictionary is a multifaceted concept, yet being every individual s inherent desire to belong. Belonging is a universal concept. Those who don t find a sense of belonging are certain to find themselves under the destructive cycle of isolation and self alienation. Peter Skrzynecki s Immigrant Chronicles serves to highlight the basic fundamental desire to belong and the importance it holds on each individual. This notion is further explored with Skrzynecki s poems St Patrick s College , Feliks Skrzynecki and Gabrielle Muccino s 21st century film Pursuit of Happyness . Feliks Skrzynecki is the persona s father and is expressed as a barrier to his belonging as he couldn t connect to their Polish culture. There is use of possessive pronouns throughout the poem to demonstrate the inheritance of belonging from father and _____, My father . Although this shifts overtime from my to his , the use of the pronoun his reveals dislocation and disconnectedness between the persona and his father. The protagonist felt a disconnection with his father, but desired to belong, but couldn t find that connection and a strong sense of belonging. Inheritance of human nature to belong is explicitly explored within 10 Mary Street. This poem reveals how pure connection to birth place, locality amongst family extensively initiates belonging and the sense of adhesiveness and connectedness. The persona describes his home and his parents sense of belonging through their beloved garden . There s a symbol of importance of belonging through their garden. Grew rows of Carneilla and rows of sweet corn , emphasizing ownership and a pleasant sense of imagery. Like a bird, eating pumpkins I promised myself I d lay off . The symbolism of a bird resembles a sense of freedom within their placing. Belonging being an inherent part of human nature is explored within Gabrielle Muccino s 21st Century film pursuit of happyness . This film reveals great meaning and one s desire to belong. Mary is in a black and white room and learns from black and white books, and lectures from black and white televisions. She has knowledge about everything in the physical world, and vast knowledge about subjects consisting of physics, chemistry, and neurophysiology. The idea of physicalismstates that the world is entirely physical, and if someone has complete knowledge of the physical world then they would know everything there is to know. This would mean that Mary would have complete physical knowledge about colors. However Jackson proves that the world has physical aspect, but it is not completely physical because there is aspect such as qualia. If physicalism is true then if you have complete physical knowledge then you have complete knowledge of the world. Jackson describes how despite her fantastic grasp of neurophysiology and everything else physical, she cannot imagine what it is like to sense red; it is that, as a matter of fact, she would not know (282). While she is in the room she learns everything about the physical world, and has the ability to imagine the things that she cannot see but Jackson states that imagination disproves phyiscalism. For example, while she was in the room she can imagine what red feels like based on her reading. However, she cannot actually have this experience because there would not be any facts in the books that will describe the feeling of when we see something new. Since there is no information in these books, Jackson proves that there is new information that Mary learns when she is released that isn t physical information. This also explains that no matter how hard she tries to imagine the world outside the room, she can truly feel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One considerable example is Stephen King. He is an otherwise unusual author. King s books seem to depict theme in a extraordinary way. His atrocious book IT has a rather nightmarish way of illustrating plot and theme. The book, though rather monstrous and horrifying, is a great read for young adults. King does an exceptional job at representing duality in IT. The story follows the lives of seven children as they are tormented by a infernal entity that feeds off the fears and phobias of its victims to disguise itself while preying on little kids. Tom Stoppard and the Crime-Writing Genre Mankind has perpetually maintained a fascination with what constitutes a crime and enjoyed piecing together the clues that authors of the crime genre provide us in solving their mysteries, thus appealing to our curiosity in the darker side of our humanity. The crime writing genre embodies humankind in its fullest, revealing our potential for both good and evil, a notion that is responsible for the genres cross contextual survival and universal appeal. It is due to this undying interest that writers of crime texts have the ability to subvert conventions and thereby deconstruct the philosophical and psychological assumptions that crime fiction is constructed upon. By subverting the conventions of the crime writing genre, composers are able to more freely explore issues concerning their respective contexts, a significant factor that has contributed to the genre s endurance. Tom Stoppard s play The Real Inspector Hound is a post modern text which utilises its absurdist nature to reflect the nihilistic philosophy of crime. The text simultaneously adheres to and discards the conventions of the crime genre through its employment of parody and its satirical characteristics. Around 1599 1600 of the common era Caravaggio painted The Calling of Matthew. This painting is of the tax collector Matthew being called upon by Christ. From its mitten like shape, to its historical background, to the presence of the Great Lakes, Michigan has a story unlike any others. One very important part of Michigan s story is how water has shaped the land making up the state. Seeing as the Great Lakes surround Michigan, it is obvious that the hydrologic system plays a great role in the water supply and the ecosystem of the Great Lakes. The hydrologic cycle includes evaporation, condensation, precipitation, groundwater, transpiration and runoff, all of which keep the Great Lakes functioning year after year. The University Corporation of Atmospheric Research developed an image to simply explain the hydrologic cycle as well as graphs explaining how each of the elements of the hydrologic cycle affects The Great Lakes on a monthly basis (located below). The hydrologic cycle keeps the Great Lakes up and running. Without it, Michigan would not have the inhabitants it does today. The abundant supply of water allows a vast array of wildlife to live in Michigan, and made it a desirable place for early settlers to inhabit. However, the Great Lakes did not just appear out of thin air. There is a long history of how the Great Lakes came to be. It is going to be a great day, right? Tsunamis and hurricanes are natural phenomena that cause mass destruction in an instant. Tsunamis are giant waves caused by earthquakes in the ocean; whereas, hurricanes are large funnels of water and debris originating from the ocean. Tsunamis and hurricanes start in the ocean, and both cause mass destruction when they hit land, but they are still two completely different storms. The most noticeable difference between a tsunamiand a hurricane is the cause of each. A tsunami is the aftermath of an underwater earthquakeor volcanic eruption. The force of the earthquake or eruption, along with the moving of the tectonic plates, sends large amounts of water in all directions. The waves can be thousands of feet high when they reach the shoreline. These giant waves can arrive at a moment s notice with no warning. The tsunami is a large natural phenomenon originating from the ocean, but it is not the only phenomenon to start in the ocean. Hurricanes are mainly found in the Atlantic and Caribbean. From this preface, to its conclusion, it deals with the role of art as catharsis for the artist; however, not only as a release of emotion, but also as a closet for the artist s innermost desires. The novel literally expresses this through its first lines, The artist is the creator of beautiful things / to reveal art and conceal the artist is art s aim (Wilde 3). Thus, art acts as a vehicle to conceal that which the person truly yearns and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrative of the novel displays the fallibility of art as a closet by means of this portrait. When the artist imbues their sins and virtues into the very foundation of their work, they become visible for all audiences. Dorian may not paint the portrait, but he shares a similar relationship with it; it is him it reflects. The portrait mirrors Dorian and paints his longings on a canvas for all to see: the face on the canvas bear the burden of his passions and his sins; that the painted image might be seared with the lines of suffering and thought, and that he might keep all the delicate bloom [...] Eternal youth, infinite passion, passions subtle and secret, wild joys and wilder sins he was to have all these things. The portrait was to bear the burden of his shame (Wilde 77, 88). The portrait embodies Dorian, everything he does, everything he wants, and everything he feels, the portrait projects. This further perpetuates the closet analogy; however, it also circumvents the metaphor itself, art does not conceal, it reveals. When Basil Hallward perceives the fruit of his labor after Dorian infuses it with himself, his response shows the portrait s failure to conceal: There was something in its expression that filled him with disgust and loathing [...] it was from within, apparently, that the foulness and horror had come. Through some strange quickening of inner life the leprosies of sin were slowly eating the thing away (Wilde 130 2). Art in this scenario fails as a closet and lays bare the sins of Dorian Gray, it is unable to hide that which he desires. Wilde states that Those who go beneath the surface do so at their peril. / Those who read the symbol do so at their peril (Wilde 3) but here, there is no beneath. The Aztecs knew the land; they were one with the earth using the stars for direction and time telling and the earth as a producer of life. The universe was sacred, it was to be preserved, treated and used as a source of life because for the Aztecs the sun was life, they are the people of the sun. The use of cannons and gunfire was foreign to the Aztecs; they fought with stones, bows and arrows and had never before seen or heard of such a weapon. Then the captain gave orders, and the messengers were chained by the feet and by the neck. When this had been done the great cannon was fired off. The messengers lost their senses and fainted away (26). The conquest of the Aztecs lasted eighty long days. The war began when the Aztecs attacked the Spaniards on la noche triste or the night of sorrows. The night of sorrows was revenge taken upon the Aztecs due to the Massacre the Spaniards committed during the Fiesta of Huitzilopochtli, the Aztec God. The Aztecs had asked for the Spaniards permission to have this fiesta and planned it to be a great one to impress their new guest, unfortunately the night did not go as planned. It sat atop Henrick Cliff with large fields sloping down from the front of the house. The tower could be seen rising from the back of the house, with the cliffs edge and sea beyond that. The observatory looked like a forgotten castle, waiting for the next rulers to occupy it. The building had been boarded up since the thirties, when its owner, Henrick En Thanatos whom the cliff was named after went missing. This is demonstrated by Justine s confession to the murder of William, which she did not commit. The Frankensteins adopted Justine, which kept her from starving on the streets. Based upon her adoption, Justine felt an indebtedness to the family, specifically the men (they provide for the family), and this debt drove her to confess to murder. The ocean is vast, covering 140 million square miles, some 72 per cent of the earth s surface. Not only has the oceans always been a prime source of nourishment for the life it helped generate, but from earliest recorded history it has served for trade and commerce, adventure and discovery. It has kept people apart and brought them together. Humans have always had a close relationship with the aquatic environment, including the early use of the sea for food harvesting and communication. Today, the sea is an important component of the transportation system, with large amounts of cargo and passengers. This chapter provides a short introduction to ships and shipping also introduces the environmental impacts related to ship operations. Camouflage being one of the most impressive aspects of octopuses intelligence, scientists under the direction of Antonio P. Cribeiro, conducted an exercise designed to see to what extent the skin of octopuses was capable to adapt to its surroundings. The experiment was divided into three parts: First, a few octopuses were introduced to a closed glass box (in full view of potential predators) containing items such as rocks, sand, and algae which are found in their natural environments. Unsurprisingly, this resulted in the octopuses adapting effortlessly to their surroundings. Then, the items inside the glass box were replaced by a piece of canvas printed with a geometric pattern, something that an octopus would never encounter in its natural habitat. The colors of the canvas were not random, however, but corresponded to the pigmentation abilities of octopuses. Once again, the octopuses easily completed the task. Finally, the geometric... The two Novel laureates, Franco Modigliani and Metron Miller (here after called M M) were the first to present a formal model in 1958 on valuation of capital structure in corporate finance theory and is still the cornerstone of modern corporate finance. MM were the first to take a sharp look at the relationship between Capital Structure and the cost of capital. In their seminal papers (1958, 1963), they states some propositions. In proposition I they postulated that debt has no value for firms in a tax free world. In a no tax scenario the investors can offset the debt by replicating its financial actions. This proposition got the name MM theory of irrelevance . Though their proposition theoretically sounds good but it is only valid under perfect market conditions (no tax is one of them) which were not actually possible in real world. They corrected this proposition in 1963 incorporating the effect of tax on value and cost of the capital of the firm (Modigliani and Miller 1963). Their new proposition II contends that, in the world of corporate tax, the value of the firm depends on the variation of the debt level and tax shield benefit on interest payments. When corporate taxes are taken into consideration, the value of a firm increases linearly with debt equity ratio because of interest payments being tax exempted. However, I was unaware that there is such a significant gap between the rich and the poor. The rich can get away with not paying their taxes and sitting on their pile of free money. In the meantime, the poorest people are down to the loose change in their pockets and are still paying their taxes. Corporations today have more privileges in America, including a voice in the democracy. People like us are being excluded from important decision making regarding our economic lives. Our understanding of what s going on with the wealth distribution and the actuality of what s going on is two completely different things. So you may ask, what s the reason behind this inequality? The answer is corporations and big businesses. Corporations such as Bank of America, Nike, Google, Apple, and Microsoft are rising to power. Corporations have also completely diminished the original intent of our Founding Fathers. The Fundamental Concept Of The Finite Element Method The fundamental concept of the finite element method is that a physical domain is discretised into a small number of sub domains, known as elements, over which a continuous field variable such as velocity, stress, pressure, or temperature can be approximated. Since the actual variation of the field variable is not known inside the domain, approximating functions are needed to describe this variation. Acute Diarrhoeal Diseases DISCUSSION Acute diarrhoeal diseases among the children are one of the most important problems affecting children in the world, reducing their well being and creating considerable demand for health services (WHO, 2010). Diarrhoeal diseases are leading cause of preventable death, especially among children aged under five in developing countries. Diarrhoea is defined as a child with loose or watery stool for three or more times during a 24 hour period. The frequency and severity of diarrhoea are provoked by lack of access to enough clean water and sanitary throwing away of human waste, insufficient feeding practices and hand washing; poor housing circumstances and lack of access to sufficient and reasonable health care (Gerald et al., 2001). Escherichia coli (EPEC) is a main cause of diarrhoea in infants and children in addition to pathogens such as Salmonella, Shigella, Yersinia, Vibrio, Campylobacter sp., Entamoeba histolytica, and Giardia lamblia in developing countries (Ahmed et al., 2009). Diarrhoeagenic E. coli is the major cause of gastroenteritis in children in the developing world and is associated with high resistance intensity to antibiotics (Ochoa et al., 2009). That bad grades, heart breaks and failures do not define who they are; what defines you as a person is how you bounce back from all the setbacks and how hard you fight for the life you want! But first, you must love yourself, just as God does. I hope they learn it s okay to be strong, but it s also okay to be soft. Strong mothers are usually very sensitive they just hide it better. Being both soft and strong is a combination very few have mastered. I have silently cried over their pain and stayed up countless nights taking care of them when my poor babies have been sick. There are times I take the hard times with a grain of salt. I hope I have shown them an unmatched compassion and tenderness, but also taught them to be tough. I hope that they learn to always possess the quality of being resilient. There is a time and place to be both soft and strong. I want them to know that it s not a weakness, it s a strength to be both a soft kind person. There is a strength in being soft in being able to bend with the wind because once the storm is over they will be the one still standing. • 53. Fate In The Play Oedipus By William Winter Fate is always there. It always has, and it always will be there. We all can choose the decisions we make, but fate cannot be changed, since it has already been predetermined. What happens will happen, but what changes will not change fate. Fate is also what changes you, if you think about it. All the events that have happened in the years of you being alive lead up to today; to who you are. All the decisions you ve made would end up driving fate into taking its own toll on future, driving up to where you currently are and making you who you are Fate is character William Winter. In the play Oedipus by Sophocles, Jocasta s (who is Oedipus s wife and mother) character would wind up changing because of fate. She did not choose for or expect for things to have change in such a negative way. Jocasta was forced to see her husband figure out that he was married to his mother She begged Oedipus not to go any further in the search of his true identity. Perhaps she did this because she was romantically in love with Oedipus, or maybe because she wanted things to stay as they were. This shows that Jocasta is secretive. When she found out that the prophecies (that were told about Oedipus) were true, she automatically tried to hide it from Oedipus Or more so push Oedipus from the truth.... Jocasta was afraid to face her fate, and she was probably also ashamed since Oedipus would soon catch up to the truth... There was no running from fate, or more so the truth ... • 54. The Importance Of Intervention From The Arctic Council The Arctic contributes a distinctive region which combines a unique biosphere and a wealth of natural resources, which often become a source of controversy. This paper will argue that the significant climate changes which are taking place in the Arctic Region open new pathways for economic opportunism for Russia, which calls for radical intervention from the ArcticCouncil. Firstly, this case study will give a framework of the main theory which will be used throughout in order to justify the importance of intervention from the Arctic Council. The main theorist used is Oran Young, who provides an agenda in how institutions such as the Arctic Council should function effectively in the Arctic. Moreover, the climate changes which are taking... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, through institutionalism, one can understand that the lack of intervention from non state actors contributes to this idea of economic logic over environmental sustainability. Arguably based on institutionalism the European actors in the Arctic, which are familiar with intervention from institutions, are influenced for instance by UNEP when it comes in to make a decision in the specific area. Consequently, this is helpful to understand why a state such as Russia is more economically and military antagonistic and less prone to cooperate with the other seven states of the area over the natural resources in the Arctic. Institutionalism is a theory which bases its principles of the idea that there is a need for stronger global institutions and norms as well as sufficient state and local capacity to constrain and direct the global political economy (Clapp and Dauvergne, 2011, 7). More specifically, the ideas of institutionalism do not set aside ideas such as global economic growth and foreign investment in areas of extreme wealth in natural resources such as the Arctic. Nonetheless, they simultaneously underline the importance of environmental sustainability which is succeeded through the setting of institutional norms which will channel a better environmental management in addition to sustainable growth. As mentioned in the work of Oran Young, a political scientist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 56. Research Paper On Palm Oil Research: Palm oil should we use it? By Annabel Pezzutti. Issue Palm oil is one of the world s most popular edible vegetable oil. Palm oil is used in most goods available at your local supermarket. This particular oil is affordable but it comes at an immense cost to our environment. Palm oilhas been connected to many human rights, animal, and environmental violations yet organisations and companies all over the world persist in using this particular oil in just about everything, in fact this popular oil is in about half of all products on store shelves. Including products like soap, snacks, laundry detergent, cosmetics, and even ice cream. Scientific explanation Palm oil is extracted from the fruit of the oil palmtree, Elaeis guineensis, which prospers in fairly humid tropical climates. Most Palm oil production occurs in just two countries, Malaysia and Indonesia, but now is spreading all over the tropics, including Africa. To produce these plantations, deforestation has to occur and this process results in a loss of biodiversity and a loss of habitat. The Human act of deforestation affects the water systems too, as rainforests produce 30% of the planet s fresh water. When forestry is demolished water isn t expelled into the atmosphere and the stability is lost. This leads to a drier climate and soil because there are no trees to transpire to the ground. why we shouldn t use It Palm oil too is not sustainably sourced and until there is verification that changes ...
