amount of energy because the Sun s rays will not hit those plates as directly as the rest.
2. Check: Click Fire. Select the TABLE tab to see how many rays hit each plate.
A. Which plate got the most sunlight? Plate D. The least? A and G.
B. Why is it colder at the poles than at the equator? The reason why is because the Sun s rays hit
those areas with the least amount of rays. They are also faced away from the sun the most
compared the other areas meaning they will get the least of the Sun s rays.

Book Review Dead End In Norvelt
I m going to review the book Dead End in Norvelt which takes place in Norvelt, a small town in
Pennsylvania. Because Norvelt is such a quaint, little neighborhood the first theme I came
across was community. I believe the reason community is a main theme is because when this
book took place 52 years ago everyone always helped each other out. The main character, Jack
lives in Norvelt. It s good that people around this town know how to help out in different ways,
his mom said. I liked that the author was very witty. I liked that novel was very entertaining and
also a bit educational. And that story was very descriptive and his choice of words kind of created
a vivid picture in my mind. I didn t like the constant jumping around from one subject to the next,
although it does show that Jack has a wandering mind. Like most books, the first chapter is where

He is not so ecstatic when his charitable mother comes out to tell him that he has to wake up at
six in the morning to help one of their neighbors Miss Volker. When his mother leaves, he
decides to practice his aim with a rifle. Oops!!! He didn t know it was loaded! He immediately
thinks he is dying when he sees blood all over him. You can call him melodramatic. It was only
his nose which spews blood everytime he gets the slightest shock.. Throughout the book I
learned that Jack is a bit irresponsible and troublesome for a brainiac kid. He is a history buff
and would much rather read a dictionary before even touching The Hunger Games or anything
like that... because Jack is terrified of death. In the summer of 1962 he is has to learn how to
cope with his fears. In fact one main theme in this book is growing up. But before he does, he
gets himself into a ton of trouble from firing a sniper rifle to mowing down his mom s corn. Now
he is grounded for the summer! His vacation plans are completely

American History X and the Epidemic of Youth Violence Essay
American History X and the Epidemic of Youth Violence
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost,
But now am found,
Was blind but now I see.
Shaker hymn
James Garbarino (1999) discusses the boys who are lost and ways that they can learn to see
again in his book Lost Boys: Why Our Sons Turn Violent and How We Can Save Them. He takes
an in depth look at what he calls the epidemic of youth violence in America in order to determine
its causes and origins. By gaining an understanding of the problem, Garbarino hopes to be able to
ascertain some sort of solution. He provides useful advice and insight about steps we as a society
can take to ensure our boys do not become lost. In order to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Although the movie is fictitious, there are boys who are living in America today that express
similar actions and attitudes to those expressed by Derek and Danny. The movie is not a far cry
from what is currently taking place in our society today.
Overview of the Movie
American History X tells a tragic story that focuses on two brothers, Derek and Danny Vinyard.
The movie begins with a startling flashback scene in which Danny interrupts his older brother
Derek and his girlfriend having sex to tell him that there is a black man outside trying to break
into Derek s car. Next we see Derek run outside and shoot and kill two African Americans and
attempt to kill another driving away. Derek is in his early twenties and Danny is 16 years old.
Danny witnesses the entire transaction.
In the next scene, it is the day Derek is released from prison, and Danny is in the principal s
office because he wrote a paper on Mien Kampf arguing for Hitler as an outstanding civil rights
activist. He is instructed by the principal, who is African American, to write another paper on his
older brother Derek. As the movie progresses, the viewer learns more about the lives of Danny
and Derek. Their father was a fireman who was killed by a black man while trying to put out a
fire in a black community. Derek and Danny live in an area of California that is run by violent
gangs. After his father is killed, Derek joins D.O.C., which is a Neo Nazi, white supremacist group.

Muhammad Nasser Research Paper
Nasser led the 1952 overthrow of the monarchy and introduced far reaching land reforms the
following year. Following a 1954 attempt on his life by a Muslim Brotherhood member acting on
his own, he cracked down on the organization, put President Muhammad Naguib under house arrest,
and assumed executive office, officially becoming president in June 1956.
Nasser s popularity in Egypt and the Arab world skyrocketed after his nationalization of the Suez
Canal and his political victory in the subsequent Suez Crisis. Calls for pan Arab unity under his
leadership increased, culminating with the formation of the United Arab Republic with Syria
(1958 1961). In 1962, Nasser began a series of major socialist measures and modernization reforms

Sherman s Maggots Research Paper
Wound care clinics around the country are giving maggots a try on some of their sickest patients
after high tech treatments fail. It s a therapy quietly championed since the early 1990s by a
California physician who s earned the nickname Dr. Maggot. But Dr. Ronald Sherman s maggots
are getting more attention since, in January, they became the first live animals to win Food and
Drug Administration approval, as a medical device to clean out wounds. A medical device? They
remove the dead tissue that impedes healing mechanically, FDA determined. It s called chewing.
But maggots do more than that, says Sherman, who raises the tiny, worm like fly larvae in a
laboratory at the University of California, Irvine. His research shows that in the mere two to three
days they live in a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In June, FDA also gave its seal of approval to leeches, those bloodsuckers that help plastic
surgeons save severed body parts by removing pooled blood and restoring circulation. And in the
spring, University of Iowa researchers reported early evidence that drinking whipworm eggs, which
causes a temporary, harmless infection, might soothe inflammatory bowel disease by diverting the
overactive immune reaction that causes it. There s a little more yuck factor with maggots. Most
people know of them from TV crime dramas, where infestations of bodies help determine time of
death. Actually, maggots medicinal qualities have long been known. Civil War surgeons noted that
soldiers whose wounds harbored maggots seemed to fare better. In the 1930s, a Johns Hopkins
University surgeon s research sparked routine maggot therapy, until antibiotics came along a decade
later. Today, despite precise surgical techniques to cut out dying tissue, artificial skin and other high
tech treatments, hard to heal wounds remain a huge problem. Diabetic foot ulcers alone strike
about 600,000 people annually and lead to thousands of

Computer ( Pc ) And Macintosh ( Mac )
Since the 1990s, Personal Computer (PC) and Macintosh (Mac) users have waged a war about
which system is better. At first PC users said Macs had under powered processors and buggy
software, while Mac users only stated Windows 98. Today the argument is much more
complicated, and no one is going to win this war. Mac users will say the security, usability, and
design are better, while the PC users will say the price, software compatibility, and choice is
better. So there has always been this war about what is better, Mac or PC, but in the end it
comes down to personal preference. PC and Mac have always had different core operating systems.

Why Do We Need Crime Statistics
Across the country there are cities that range from millions of residents to thousands. There are
also some towns that have a couple hundred barely enough to be called a town. When you look at
crime you think of these places and wonder where there could possibly be more crime. In a city a
lot of crime is normal do to the population but in a small town with smaller population you won t
see that. The amount of crimereported and processed in a place are the crime statistics and it can
vary depending on the situation. Crime statistics can be taken in two ways (boundless.com). One
way it can be taken is crime reports and surveys. Surveys are super important because it can show
that people who had a crime happen to them didn t call in or report the crime. A crime that is not
reported to the policeis a dark figure of crime (Schmalleger, Frank). These are super important and
are sometimes found out about in only surveys. Imagine how many more crime statistics there
would be if the dark figures of crime were reported and how many more criminals we could stop.
Crime control helps keep order in cities. The crime statistics are taken in two major ways.
collecting crime data are law enforcement reports and victimization statistical surveys

In my personal opinion I think that it helps Crime Control a lot more and is more useful in
keeping order. The main reason for this again is because if the amount of crime goes up in one
place then we can send more enforcement to that specific area. This would be helpful everywhere
it just another way to keep things under more control. Again, this is my opinion and the scales of
justice can tell you something different. According to the scales of justice both processes are
portrayed as equal but in all reality they are always tipping and that just depends on the situation
and the statistics being

Survival Skills of the Fittest
You are on a plane in the middle of a war with twelve strangers and suddenly you wake up on a
beach, on a deserted island with no idea how you got there. Not only do you not know where
you are, no one else knows either. Hope of rescue is slim. You and the others are scared. The
pilot is dead and there are no supplies in sight. What are you going to do? You could do nothing
and just wait to be rescued. Or, you could take responsibility for your fate and fight for your life.
Would a group of boys be capable of making the correct decisions that would facilitate their
survival on this deserted island? Ralph, the protagonist in William Golding s Lord of the Flies was

them forgetting about their responsibility, the all important fire. This is an example of how their
success on the island could have been forever altered. In the long run, if they had used survival

Sacred Hoops
Phil Jackson coached the Chicago Bulls basketball team to one of the longest winning streaks in
professional sports. In his book, Sacred Hoops, he describes his approach to coaching a group of
acknowledged stars. He clearly understands that simply collecting a set of outstanding players does
not a championship team make. One way of understanding his approach is to think of every
problem or project having components in four different spheres:
1.Mental, logical, scientific, technical
2.Systems or how the parts all connect and interact
3.Emotional, feelings, intuition
4.Ethical, spiritual and issues of being.

Following a career as a player Jackson applied his understanding to coaching basketball teams. You
can t expect a team to perform in a way that is out of tune with its natural abilities, so empowering
individuals even superstars to mindfully acknowledge their true abilities and accept what they can
and can t change moves any team toward a greater cohesion. Focusing on the awareness of the
moment, instilling the notions of selflessness in action and the value of compassion towards fellow
players are some of the teachings that Jackson provided for his players.
Somehow I never associated the competitive world of a professional sport with Zen practice but
clearing the mind and opening the heart is just as relevant there as anywhere else. In dealing with
the high pressure situation of highly paid athletes constantly under media scrutiny Jackson, via his
practice has been able to reflect on his own actions, look into his essential nature and find solutions
to all sorts of problems the Tao of Authority leads him.
Zen is life, so why not let the eightfold path lead you to a method of coaching basketball? Even if
right action means calling it quits sometimes and it involves losing. As Jackson says, I used to
believe that the day I could accept defeat was the day I would have to give up my job. But losing
is as integral a part of the dance as winning. Buddhism teaches us that by accepting death, you
discover life. Similarly, only by acknowledging the

However, Percy Jackson faces the dragon and leaps him at bay. By getting the pearl and almost
getting killed by the dragon, he just risked his life by doing that. Him and his teammate killed the

Don t Criticize What You Can t Understand

Bob Dylan Don t criticize what you can t understand, said Bob Dylan, one of the most influential
figures in folk music and music culture. As a protest singer growing up in a racially tense time
affected by the Vietnam War, he was heavily influenced by his background and the social issues of
his time. He rose to prominence from Blowin in the Wind (which became an enduring anthem) and
many other songs that influenced the young generation of the 1960s. Bob Dylan s interest for music
started from a young age. Born on May 24, 1941 as Robert Allen Zimmerman, he started writing
poems at age ten (Jarnow). By the time he was a teenager, he had taught himself to play the guitar,
the piano, and the harmonica, and participated in bands in high school. After that, he enrolled at the
University of Minnesota, dropping out when he became more involved in the music scene than his
schoolwork. He moved to New York City, where he went to Greenwich Village and met Woody
Guthrie, one of his music idols. He performed as Bob Dylan in nightclubs and coffee houses,
gaining respect and recognition from his peers. He released his self titled album, Bob Dylan, in
1962, followed by The Freewheelin Bob Dylan in 1963. His second album contained protest songs
such as Blowin in the Wind, which became an enduring anthem of the 1960s. By the time he

The Idea Of Ladies Being Culturally Better Than Men
The Moso People
The Moso are an ethnic gathering of around 40,000 people living in the highlands in southwestern
China who rehearse matrilineal drop. Their essential exercises are agriculture and angling. They
have their own religion, Ddaba, which is a mixture of nature love, soul love, and genealogical love.
They talk their own dialect, Naru, which has a place with the Yi limb of the Tibeto Burman
subfamily of the Sino Tibetan family .In Moso society, ladies are socially better than men. The
idea of ladies being socially better than men is so engrained in their way of life that they don t
really have words for relatives on the male s side of the family . The household economy is
managed by the head of house, which can be from either gender, and property is collectively owned
by the (matrilineal) household .
They have a fascinating sexual access framework too, called `tisese`, wherein accomplices don t
cohabitate (rather living in their matrilineal family unit) however rather express agree to each
other. That assent is effortlessly given and effectively disavowed, does not influence their social
standing, and is not lawfully tying. Guys visit females for a night in this framework, and come
back to their own particular home the following day. In the event that a tyke is conceived it stays
with the mother s family unit, and by no means is a youngster illegitimate.A tisese relationship is

Buddhism and Christianity
In the early sixth century Christianity was evolving at a rapid pace. The spread of Christianity was
not only moving westward through Europe, but it was also moving eastward down the Silk Road.
The eastward spread of Christianity was primarily a form of Christianity known as Nestorianism,
after the teachings of Nestorius, a fifth century patriarch. By 635 Nestorian Christianityhad reached
the heart of China spreading through all of Persia and India. During the middle of the seventh
century Nestorian churches were found in cities all along the Silk Road, though there were

Paris France, 1888 Darkness. As Robin Cahun awoke from his slumber, that s all he
felt...darkness. As he opened his eyes, he saw the morning light flowing through the drawn
curtains and wondered just how long he had been out of it? Where was he? How did he get here?
As he pulled the covers off of his naked body, he couldn t remember anything about the night
before. What was even more frightening was that he could remember anything from the last week.
The last thing Robin could recall was walking past the construction site of the controversial Eiffel

light hazel eyes still pulled the attraction of any woman he came into contact with. After finally
stumbling into the bathroom, he pulled himself closer to the mirror over the sink trying to see the
cause of the blood on his neck. After wiping his neck with a wet cloth, he seen the cause clearly;
two holes, almost an inch apart from each other, were perfectly placed on the side of his neck.
What the hell happened last night?
Robin shook himself out of the memory. Looking out his penthouse suite window over modern day

How A Structured Recess Program Affect The Number Of...
Question
How would the implementation of a structured recess program affect the number of behavior
referrals during intermediate recess?
Introduction
The goal of this action research project is to determine if a structured recess program would
decrease aggressive behavior on the playground which in turn would decrease the number of
behavior referral forms that would have to be written up. There is a growing problem in our
schools; children do not know how to play during recess time. Children are spending more and
more time in front of the television, video games, or other sedentary non play activities. They are
not learning how to play properly with other children and are coming to school not knowing what
to do during recess time (Patrick, 1996). As they inter school it is now the schools job to teach the
students how to correctly interact while playing at recess. Recess needs to be the fourth R taught
by school (Pellegrini, Bohn, 2005). Putting students on the a playground for recess time when they
do not know how to play and interact with other students will only lead to boredom and
inappropriate behavior. To avoid these inappropriate behaviors schools have started to use a more
structured recess approach to teach children how to play and interact while on the playground. The
question then becomes what structured recess program to use and will this program be truly
effective?
Possible Solution The first solution would be to start to use a structured recess

Robin Hood Beliefs
Robin Hood was a man who loved life and sought adventure in every aspect of his life. Although,
he has a made some mistakes he typically tried to do good. He loved people, especially women
and children. I would not consider him a true follower of a Christ, but rather a man who does
good works. In Titus 3:5 it says, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according
to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.

Robin was not very good at this, as we can see all the situations it got him in. A quick temper will
make a fool of you soon enough. ( Bruce Lee ) Robin s anger caused him to kill two people!
When one gets angry it can affect more than just you. It is not wrong to be angry, but it is wrong
to act upon our anger. In Ephesians 4:26 it says, Be angry, and do not sin: do not let the sun go
down on your wrath. (Ephesians 4.26)This verse is a reminder to not act upon our anger, but also
not to hold onto it because it ends up hurting us more by holding onto it.
The final lesson I have learned from Robin Hood is to do things the right way. Often times the
right way ends up being the harder way, but it is always more rewarding. One of the main
reasons Robin had so many enemies is because the things he did were against the law and unjust
to certain people. In James 4:17 it says, Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do
it, to him it is sin. (James 4.17)This verse is saying that if one knows the right thing to do, but
does not do it, it is a sin. Doing the right thing can be very hard. If one remains faithful, God will

African Rock Art
Africa is home to many interesting and historic artistic pieces. Some of the oldest forms of art
expressed by humans can be seen in paintings or engravings in rocks. These various rock arts are
found all around the continent. The Saharan desert provides many great sites which preserve and
archive these creations. Many rock art showcase numerous animals such as giraffes, elephants, and
hippos. These animals seem to have importance of African culture and their lives. African rock art
can sometimes be abstract in nature causing interpretation of said art to be challenging.
Africa can be seen as the birth place of mankind. Our ancestors originated there long ago in a world

Malawi Financial Scoping Survey On Micro, Small, And...
CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCTION
1.1 Problem Background
The Malawi financial scoping survey on micro, small, and medium enterprises (2012) shows that
Malawi has close to 760, 000 small business owners generating annual revenue of about
US$2billion, but 60 per cent of whom do not use financial services. The small business owners in
Malawi are relatively young with an average age of 31 years, with 70 per cent of them having
just primary education. The MSME sector creates employment for just over a million people.
The 2012 MSME survey established that 59% of MSMEs were excluded from financial
services, as opposed to 31% that are formally served by some sort of financial system, with the
balance relying on informal services. Only 22% are banked. Over three quarters do not borrow
funds, primarily because they doubt their ability to repay loans. Of those who borrow, informal
credit systems tend to be the primary source of credit. The survey establishes that the smaller the
business in terms of number of employees the less likely that the owner has or uses banking
services to manage the finances of their business. In recognition of the role that SMEs play in the
economy, the Government of Malawi has made the development of SMEs a priority MSME policy
(2007).
Small and medium enterprises play an important role in providing employment, improving people s
livelihood and in the overall economy. It is therefore imperative that the MSMEs explore other
cheaper means of finance e.g. equity,

Rainbow Formation Research Paper
Everyone enjoys the site of a rainbow expected after it rains on a sunny day; however, although a
rainbow formation is basic optics and geometry, it is highly misunderstood. Many understand the
appearance due to dispersion of light, but most do not realize what that entitles. What most people
do not expect when looking at a rainbowis that it moves as the observer moves (Cartwright, 1992).
Shown in the photo to the left, is a rainbow taken along the countryside in Missoula, Montana. To
further discuss how a rainbow works, one must understand the reflection refractiontheories that
cause such a formation. A wave theory of lightdeveloped by Auguste Fresnel describes the bands
that are located beneath a rainbow, which are not as visible... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Rays of light come from a fixed direction as bundles, which always are red proving a greater
concentration of light from that fixed direction. This ray is called a caustic ray (Bim 1999). As
the height y of an incident ray increases from 0, the deflection of the outgoing ray decreases
towards the caustic ray, causing the y to pass the caustic ray, and the deflection increases again
(Gordon de Pree, Ph.D, 20) In specific conditions, the observer can see a secondary rainbow
behind the primary rainbow weaker and inverse in spectra, with red on the inside and violet on
the outside. According to Cartwright s article on Rainbows, the space between red and violet,
regardless of direction, is called the Alexander s Dark band, which is noticeably darker than its
surroundings. This way of looking at the matter along the direction of minimum deviation is
shown to be equivalent to Mascart s approximate method of explanation of the formation of the

Demand For Medical Care Essay
Demand for Medical Care
The demand for medical care is derived from our demand for good health. Michael Grossman was
the first to do econometric research on this topic. Grossman s work established two approaches for
consideration. In the first, medical care is viewed as an input in the production function for health,
and in the second, as an output produced by medical care providers (Henderson, p.142). There are
two main factors that determine the demand for medical care. The first is the patient factor. This
includes a patient s health status, demographic characteristics and economic status. The second is
the physician factor. This is an interesting topic because it introduces the principal (patient) agent
(physician) problem. We are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a moral question that we need to answer is when do you stop? Thomas McKeown (1976)
noticed that there was a secular decline in mortality rates. The quality of life was one of the
major factors. There was an increase in income as well as education. The living standards and
nutrition chipped in as well. The public health authorities improved sanitation. Which in return
all lead to a decrease in diseases. An increase in technology also helped the cause. Diseases like
cancer where slowed due to Chemotherapy and stricter regulations directed to corporations on
dumping waste. (Henderson p.145) Genetics also play a major role in determining our health.
Half of your genes come from your father and the other half from your mother. There are two
factors that play a critical role in determining the health of an individual: the risk of exposure to
a particular disease and the ability of the individual to resist the disease (and recover from its
consequences) once exposed (Henderson p.144). If your father has high blood pressure then his
siblings are susceptible to high blood pressure too. Now we will look at the determinants in the
demand for medical care. Henderson defines demand as the sacrifice an individual is willing to
make in order to obtain a given amount of a particular good or service. In other words you can t
always get what you want. Need rarely equals demand. Need is almost always greater than demand.

Why Kids Should Be Able To Graduate In Three Years
Every year, over 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the United States alone. That s a
student every 26 seconds or 7,000 a day. Students should be able to graduate in three years because
some kids want to go to college as early as possible, it would allow people to get better jobs at a

Challenges of Genre for EFL Teachers
Challenges of Genre for EFL teachers
In teaching English as Foreign Language (EFL), teachers face a number of challenges when the
pedagogy is changed to EFL method. One of the questions is how can teachers know what genre
the students need to learn? This is because based on researches, genre are dependent on the
discourse community. Therefore, how to explain which genre to teach by school teacher to the
students? So, this has become a problem/challenge for EFL teachers to teach genre as researchers
from New Rhetoric Studies argue that genre cannot be taught. They point out that genres are so
changeable and so context dependent that it makes no sense to teach them outside of that particular
context. (Millar, 2011)
Moreover, a basic set of general school genre has been introduced to counter that teaching genre is
as important as other subject matter to the students where they can apply it in many ways.
According to (Hyland, 2003) narration, recounting, argumentation, report and description are
included in these school of genre. In this approach the claim is that if students can control and
produce a few decontextualized genres such as exposition , discussion , and historical recount ,
they can produce texts in the genres of a culture (Johns, 2008) Despite that, this type of approach
may not teach students enough about how to employ and adapt these patterns to different contexts.
More longitudinal studies will be needed to see if learning this core set of text patterns

Research Paper On Ee Cummings
E.E. Cummings: An Amazing Poet
E.E. Cummings was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on October 14, 1894 and died on
September 3, 1962. Cummings received his B.A. and M.A. from Harvard University. Many
experiences have influenced Cummings writing. For example, Cummings left the U.S.A. to
become a French volunteer ambulance driver in WWI. He became a P.O.W. for suspicion of
being a spy. He also was able to meet Pablo Picasso. Furthermore, E.E. Cummings is a poet before
his time due to his amazing poetry, applicable themes, and his impact on society.
In fact, the title of the poem is Somewhere I Have Never Travelled, Gladly Beyond. In shorter
words, it is about someone who is madly, head over heals, in love. The form of this poem is
loving and his diction is beautiful yet impactful. Cummings uses excellent imagery; for
example, the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses. The point of view of this poem is from
the lover s perspective. He speaks of her eyes being able to open him. His attitude is loving and he
is deeply in love with the recipient. At the beginning, it is not clear how much the recipient has
impacted him. It is towards the end, mainly the final stanza in which the reader can fully ... Show

O Brien most likely wrote parts of the story in third person because it is traditional and benefits the

Essay about Locus of Control and Social Behaviour
Imagine, you just recently came down with a cold and you are feeling really sick. How did you end
up getting sick in the first place, was it just due to random chance, or was it because you were
stressed and not watching your health? According to Julian Rotter s social learning theory, the two
different mentalities people have about how much influence they themselves have on their life
events can be categorized into two different groups. Those with internal control believe that they
have control over their own behaviour and the subsequent outcomes. Conversely, those with
external control more often tend to believe that outcomes are beyond their control. The locus

Freedom of movement in this case is taken to mean ...a person s generalized expectancy that
any...related set of behaviours will lead to need satisfaction (Crowne, 2009). Evidence suggests
that the relationship between expectancy (freedom of movement) and reinforcement or need
values to be multiplicative, but an ampersand is used instead because data on the relationship is
still considered inconclusive (Crowne, 2009). Note that in both cases, expectation plays a huge
role in determining whether behaviour occurs. Regardless of how big a need or reinforcement, if
expectation of satisfaction in a given situation is zero or low, behaviour is unlikely to happen. The
concept of external and internal control can be thought of as having low or high expectations for
situations that involves personal commitment or action. The primary concerns of this concept
involve activities that require one to make judgments about one s own skill or aptitude in a task.
If one does not believe that they are skilled, and that any choices they make will make any
difference, than activities that are mostly skill based are highly unlikely to occur. Instead, people
with external control will be inclined to participate in activities that are more heavily luck based,
because the expectancy for reinforcement (rewards) or a need fulfillment tend to be higher than
ability based activities. Consider the

Accuracy or Inaccuracy of Sensory Perception
Provide at least three (3) reasons for believing in the accuracy or inaccuracy of sensory information.
Sensory perception is the foundation of scientific knowledge and philosophical reality. This is one
of the reasons for believing the accuracy of sensory information. Science depends on the
standardization of sensory input and instruments. Human sensory organs are generally the same
across the species, with few exceptions. One of the reasons why sensory information is accurate
is that all human beings can basically agree on data such as the sky being blue, satin being soft,
and sugar being sweet. The fact that sensory information provides a common ground for people
being human is one of the reasons for believing in the accuracy of sensory information. Another
reason for believing the accuracy of sensory data is that it can in many cases be measurable and
predictable. This is why sensory information provides the foundation for empirical measurements
and scientific data.
However, there are also reasons for believing the inaccuracy of sensory information. Reasons
include the variability of the human experience, including situational variables like sleep
deprivation, hunger, or emotional state of being. Sensory information will be distorted when a
person is too tired, angry, or hungry. Another reason to doubt the accuracy of sensory information is
that not all hypotheses or issues lend themselves to be measured using sensory data. Cultural
differences, gender norms, and other

The Effect of Age, Gender and Social Habits on Taste...
Abstract
An individual s taste sensitivity is influenced by many aspects such as gender, age and social habits
like smoking. To investigate what could have an impact on an individual s taste ability, psychology
students conducted an experiment on 595 non diabetic participants. In the experiment, participants
were asked to taste 8 different water sugar solutions with different sugar strength, then were asked
to state whether the solution had sugar in it or not. As hypothesised, female participants were more
able to detect the sugar in the solution than male participants, also, non smokers were able to get a
higher hit rate than smokers. These findings suggest that the sense of taste is affected by each
individual s gender and whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To test the hypothesis that taste sensitivity varies from an individual to another, and to detect the
absolute threshold of sugar dissolved in water through the perception of taste, this experiment was
conducted. Participants in the experiment tasted water sugar solution with different strength and
were asked to state if the liquid they were given had sugar in it or not. To get more accurate
results, the participants were not told if all the different liquids had sugar in them or if the sugar
amount varies in each solution. As the selectivity theory predicts, when an individual ages, their
sense of taste should considerably decrease. Also, I predict that the taste sensitivity in non smokers
should be higher than in smokers, as well as higher in females than in males.
Method
Participants The participants were chosen at random by the researchers who are Massey
university psychology students. The researchers were asked to conduct the experiment on two
participants who are over the age of 11 and not diabetic. The total of participants was 595,
including 326 females and 269 males. The mean age of the participants was 35.63 with female
mean age of 36.71 and male mean age of 34.31. The conductors were advised to find smokers for
half the participants if possible; so 202 of the participants were smokers and 393 were non
smokers. Participants fully understood what was expected of them before they took a part of the

Tom Sawyer lives with his Aunt who adores him despite his childish actions throughout the
novel. On the other hand, Huckleberry Finn lives with a widow and her sister who do not
accept immaturity. Tom s family loves him although he may be a troublesome child, while Huck
s dad had a savage life of abusing his child. Tom is forced to go to school and church by his aunt,
but Huck has absolutely no responsibility as he is a symbol of freedom for the boys his age.
Although Tom is a troublesome child, he knows his limits and when to stop. He understands
how to be civilized, but he chooses not to be. Huck, on the other hand, has no ambition to be
civilized and may not have any idea on how to become civilized. It is clear that Tom is more
intelligent than Huck by the way it is portrayed in the novels of how the two boys talk and the
words they use. Twain proves that opposites attract in these novels by making Tom and Huck
become such great

Overeaters Anonymous Meeting Report
Next, my roommate and I attended Overeaters Anonymous. This meeting was also held at St. John

Wednesday from 12pm 1pm. The meeting was held in the basement of the church and only a
handful of people showed up to the meeting. The population consisted of all women who were of
similar ethnic backgrounds. Again, overeaters is another program that consists of twelve steps

others just wanted to be there to listen and for support. A couple individuals shared very

When an economy is suffering, people will look for an entity or person to blame yes, but they
also eagerly and sometimes blindly accept what they might justify as the lesser of two evils. In
this case, Evil is identified and there is nothing lesser about it. In the early 1900 s what they found
changed and also ended the lives of millions. World War II and the hardship it brought upon
Germanywas just the tool that one man in particular took advantage of for his own personal gain
and ideology. Born in Australia in 1889, Aldoph Hitler came to be one of the most famed and later
despised person s in human history. Many have written about his life and what he accomplished or

He had pictures of himself plastered everywhere. Children were forced to praise and honor his
image in school and speeches were broadcast over the air, TV and in the streets. This behavior
reminds me of how cult leaders of today find their victims or followers; they exploit person s
weaknesses and offer a solution, a better way of life and a feeling of uniqueness or belonging.
Hitler seized this opportunity to claim that the democratic system had failed the German people
and that the Nazis were their only hope (Why, 2013). Almost everyone is guilty of adding a little
fluff to a statement or claim in order to make it more believable or agreeable. Take this same
situation presented twice, using a different approach each time. Wife says to husband, We need
to talk (Imagine her arms folded, jaw slightly extended forward in an assertive manner). How
willingly do you think the husband will be to give her 100% of his attention and be in good
spirits about it? Instead imagine the situation approached like this: Wife says, Husband, there is
something I need your help with (one hand outstretched to hold his, a smile on her face instead
of a glare). Hitler knew how to use power words, how to sell himself like a used car salesman in
order to win favor and even how to present a boldfaced lie and have it believed. When favor wasn
t granted, intimidation was his fallback plan. In a Reichstag speech on April 28, 1939 Hitler

Parents affect on their childrens sporting lives Essay
Parents have a great affect on their children. Parents like their kids to be involved in many
different activities to make the child a well rounded person. Sports is a main activity that parents
get their children involved in. Sports develops character, as well as discipline, self respect, etc...
Sometimes parents don t realize that even though the sport itself teaches the child, they are the most
visible teacher to the child. Parents are often the ones who get out of control at sporting events.
When the children see this behavior, they now must question. Is this acceptable? Then a child may
think it is and engage in violent or destructive behavior themselves.
This past summer a scandal erupted during the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

When do parents realize they have gone to far? Some don t. This is a major problem. Many
incidents happen where parents, or coaches get way too involved in what is supposed to be a fun
filled environment for the children. An incident that happened in south jersey is a prime example
of this. In Deptford, New Jersey during a pee wee football game, a parent started an argument with
another parent from the other town. This in turn erupted into a riot. Now the league has signs
posted with the consequences of your actions. New rules and legislation are being enacted in many
states to combat a rising tide of misbehavior at youth sporting events. This misbehavior is known
as sideline rage and is especially prevalent among adult spectators, parents of participants, and
coaches. (Wong 1,42) Many of the consequences resulting in prosecution, and fines of some sort.

Cracker Jack Case Analysis
Case Recap
The primary reason for the Borden Foods to divert itself from snacks is to emphasis its efforts
and resources in the growth of their whole wheat meal segments. Because of this valuation they
had and a growth plan they had they decided to announce sale of Cracker Jack in 1997. The
management team of Broaden also recognized that with the increase in competition they have
not been able to successfully grow the sales figure in past five years. Also because the Cracker
Jack brand has various packaging options and has been maintaining a huge product line of 32
Stock Keeping Units (SKUs). However, currently Broaden production facility had only 32 percent
of space allocated to Cracker Jack Products and has been operating at 32% of its ... Show more

Evaluation of Alternative
Cracker Jacks sales will represent a tiny part of the Frito Lay s business currently, however the
chances are high to get the numbers high from this division if proper decisions are made. Frito Lay
is the leader in the US market concerning market share and sales volume. So they can use their
advertising and marketing experience to uplift CJ. CJ should be marketed as a stackable treat which
is healthy as of natural ingredients like popcorn. Marketing researchers should focus on the small
children as the target market as well. By launching the different sizes and convenient packages
to the customers so that they can grab it and go rather than having a box. The CJ should be
made available to as many stores as possible by utilizing the same direct store delivery channels.
A careful analysis has to be done to change any features like gifts in each bag and the flavor of the
CJ, because that is the major point of CJ and most of the customers are attracted because of that
particular features.
Recommendation
In my opinion the Borden Foods will sell the company for above 30 million dollars based on the
assets it has and the goodwill for the year ending 1996. However the Frito Lay should only pay
around 25 million dollars for acquisitions of the company.

Comparing The Religious Agenda Of John Donne And Francis...
The Religious Agenda of John Donne and Francis Bacon Discuss the significance of religious
belief in writing you have studied on the course.
Introduction
The Renaissance period was marked with bouts of religious change, from the Protestant
Reformation in Germany to the formation of the Church of England. Much of the literature
published during the Renaissance was a reaction to these constant changes the works of John
Donne and Francis Bacon are no different. Donne and Bacon were prominent writers of their time.
They were well known for indulging in religious debate through their work, especially with relation
to other societal issues such as the rise of science. Donne s Satire III highlights the issue of

He uses his priest like tone at the end of the poem to encourage his fellowman to cement their
relationship with God instead of pursuing a relationship with the church.
Extended Metaphor
Furthermore, Donne encourages people to find a spiritual or personal faith of their own through the
extended metaphor of religion as a lady. He states, Is not our Mistress, fair Religion/ As worthy of
all our soul s devotion . He presents religion in female form and lists men who seek a relationship
with her. For example, Marcus seeks her at Rome, indicating that Marcus seeks the truth of religion
in Catholicism. On the other hand, a Careless Phygrius abhors all religion and dares not commit to
one lest it be the wrong one. Here, Donne outlines the search for true religion via the points of view
of different men, showing the different avenues others have gone down in the effort to find the true
religion. And yet, despite all the various efforts to find the true religion, Donne states that all
women are the same, just like religion. This controversial statement, at a time where differenent
churches were forming, acts as a thinking point for society. Donne makes people re think their
confimority to church laws and encourages them to find true spirituality within themselves.
Donne s purpose is clear: he is writing to convince himself and society that no matter what
denomination one chooses to adhere to, they are all seen as one under the eyes of God. He

Death Of A Moth Essay
The Land Ethic vs The Death of the Moth Marlee Matlin once said, The Earth does not belong to
us: We belong to the Earth. In Aldo Leopold s essay, The Land Ethic , there are several
overwhelming examples that illustrate why we as humans would believe we own the Earth
when we really don t. Paradoxically, looking at Virginia Woolf s work, The Death of a Moth ,
one would come to believe that none of that matters because all living beings will suffer the fate
of death. However, both works show that there can be a reconciliation between a certain kind of
symbiosis: man vs man, land vs land, or man vs land. The Death of a Moth may show that all life
forms end eventually, but The Land Ethic convinces readers that... Show more content on

She doesn t start to cherish the life of the moth until it faces the near experience of death which
discloses several revelations. In Aristotle s rhetoric, such feeling can be defined as pathos: a
condition that evokes pity or sadness. Evidence from both works show that humans don t
necessarily care about other life forms unless it affects or benefits them in some way, shape or
form. So at what point do we,as humans, determine what part of the land is more important than
the other? We are also a part of the land pyramid (Leopold). So why do we feel a sort of
superiority to the other members of the community or the need to use so many of the land s
resources futilely and excessively? The transparent and most logical answer would be sustenance.
All creatures live to survive, and death is motivation enough for life to have value. Leopold could
have argued that man s exploitation of the land is superfluous, but others could respond with a
rebuttal stating that the exploitation is for the betterment of the human society. The puzzling aspect
of such situations is that the existence of obligations over and above self interest is taken for
granted in such rural community enterprises as the betterment of roads, schools, churches, and
baseball teams (Leopold). Those that are wise would note humans as biased because we never
consider what determines whether a species should diminish and die out for

Analysis Of My Antonia By Willa Cather
Everyone can think upon their past and remember a time where things were easier or more fun.
Throughout the book My Antonia by Willa Cather, longing for a time in the past is the recurring
theme. The story is told through Jim Burden s eyes and his times with the lovely Antonia. As
life goes on, Jim reminisces about his childhood with Antonia. These memories transits from
teenage years, all the way into late adulthood for Jim and Antonia. To start, the first time we see
Jim and Antonia s relationship drift is after Mr Schimerdas dies from supposedly killing himself.
When Jim comes to teach Antonia more English after that, he begins to only teach Yulka.
Antonia, being the next oldest kin, had to go out for work on the farm. I ain t got time to learn.
I can work like mens now. My mother can t say no more how Amrosch do all and nobody to help
him. I can work as much as him. School is alright for little boys. I help make this land one good
farm. (61) Antonia is already four years older than Jim, making her responsibilities even greater.
Jim misses the days where the two of them went out in adventures, but soon has to go to school in
town. This means that Jim will be even further away from Antonia. Eventually, Jim and his
Grandparents move into town so Jim can go to school. At which is bittersweet for him and the
Schimerdas. After I began to go to the country school, I saw less of the Bohemians. We were
sixteen pupils at the Sod Schoolhouse, and we all came on horseback

Compare And Contrast Star Trekkies
The Star Trek franchise has been one of the largest and most successful in the history of Science
fiction. Its series of television programs has one of the most loyal and diverse fan bases in
history. However, the most common source of debate among Trekkies is over which program
deserves the title of The Best ; Star Trek: The Original Series or Star Trek: The Next Generation.
While the followings of both shows adamantly disagree with each other s claim to the title, these
two shows have more in common than people may like to believe.
While these two shows may have premiered decades apart, their roots remain the same. Both were
produced by Gene Roddenberry. They were both centered around the concepts of travel over time

An obvious difference would be the time gap. Star Trek: The Original Series came out in 1966.
Its counterpart, Star Trek: The Next Generation did not make its debut until over twenty years
later in 1987. The time difference also contributed to the difference in technology available. Due
to the lack of certain special effects technology, The Original Series seemed to be a lower quality
program, however, they were doing the best they could with their available resources. By 1987,
extraordinary advancement had been made in cinematic technology, allowing for The Next
Generation to have a much more diverse set of special effects at their disposal. The new show,
which updates the futuristic scenario of the original by being set in the 24th century, 85 years
beyond the time of the first series, has a sleek, streamlined look that has evidently pleased devoted
Trekkies while drawing in newer, more casual viewers weaned on the spectacular outer space
sights of feature films such as Star Wars (By 27). One of the most crucial differences, leading to
the most controversy, is the crew. In Star Trek: The Original Series the U.S.S. enterprise was
commanded by Captain James T. Kirk, portrayed by William Shatner. Kirk was known for being
all heart and raw emotion. It was not uncommon for him to make decisions that would clearly go
against Starfleet regulations. His fans loved him for his uncanny ability to be predictably

The Portrayal of the Powerful in Thomas Mofolo’s novel Chaka
According to the English author and philosopher, Edmund Burke, The greater the power, the
more dangerous the abuse. (Burke) This often proves to be true in Thomas Mofolo s novel
Chaka. Power is often a corruptive concept. If you do not have a genuinely selfless heart, you
will become corrupted by your own power, which often happened to those of power in this
novel. Power can be expressed through controlling others, but it can also be expressed by
disabling others from controlling you by rebelling. Powerlessness occurs when you lose the
determination to stop others from controlling you. In Chaka, Thomas Mofolo distinguishes
between the powerful and powerless by making the powerful easier to relate to than the
powerless, while also showing how very few of the powerless were able to acquire power. The
powerless and the powerful have two very distinct roles in this novel. The powerful are given
more of a backstory so that we, as readers, can be able to relate and see the humanistic side of the
powerful, since a majority of them gravely misuse their power. The powerless, however, are
portrayed just as they are: powerless. They are the pawns used to each person of power s
advantage and are not given as much of a backstory, unless their story is relevant to a person in
power. For example, Nandi, being the illegitimate mistress of Senzangakhona and mother of
Chaka, originally had no power. However, we know of Nandi s background because it is relevant
to the upbringing of Chaka

Battle Of Layac Junction Essay
Battle of Layac Junction
December 7, 1941, Japanese air and naval forces struck multiple areas within the Pacific to include
Kota Bharu in British Malaya, Singora in Thailand, Guam, Hong Kong, and the Philippine Islands.
One of the prominent attacks targeted Pearl Harbor, marking the United States declaration of war
against Japan, in which the United States entered World War II. The capture of the Philippine
Islands served as a crucial effort to the Empire of Japan in ensuring the control of the Southwest
Pacific during World War II. The Philippine Islands served as a natural barrier between Japan and
resources found in East and Southeast Asia. Hence, the impact of the defense of the Philippines
Island in Bataan served in effectively delaying Japan s conquest of South Asia.
Attack on the Philippines was previously contemplated by the joint Army Navy Orange Plan of
1938, later revised and named War Plan Orange 3 (WPO 3) in 1941. The plan focused on covering
emergency situations that would arise between the US and Japan. Furthermore, a section of this
plan expanded on the element of massing U.S. Army troops to Central Luzon, Philippines, in which

Effects Of World War II On The World
History 465 7760 Final Exam Christy Brown May 2, 2015 Prompt 6: Although the war ended in
1945, the effects of World War II are widespread throughout the 20th century and into the 21st.
International relations, technological development, economic growth and failure, social
upheaval, and many other areas of life were influenced by the war. Explain how World War II
influenced the world since 1945. Many changes have occurred in the world today as a result of
World War II. Many of those changes include economic growth and failure in various countries,
improved or strained international relations between countries, and probably most importantly,
vast technological advances in several countries. Many of the differences between post World
War II and pre World War II are not immediately visible to the untrained observer, especially in
the area of technological advances. It is safe to say, however, that the world would not be what it
is today had World War II not brought about the vast changes that it did. As we discussed in class,
post war really started in the middle of the war, during 1942, where various optimistic countries
started to make plans for after they won the war. On the first of January, 1942, the Allies got
together and signed the Declaration by United Nations, which basically outlined the war aims of the
Allied Powers. In August of 1943, the UN established the four policemen, which consisted of the
USSR, UK, China, and the United States. These were the

  • 4. Book Review Dead End In Norvelt I m going to review the book Dead End in Norvelt which takes place in Norvelt, a small town in Pennsylvania. Because Norvelt is such a quaint, little neighborhood the first theme I came across was community. I believe the reason community is a main theme is because when this book took place 52 years ago everyone always helped each other out. The main character, Jack lives in Norvelt. It s good that people around this town know how to help out in different ways, his mom said. I liked that the author was very witty. I liked that novel was very entertaining and also a bit educational. And that story was very descriptive and his choice of words kind of created a vivid picture in my mind. I didn t like the constant jumping around from one subject to the next, although it does show that Jack has a wandering mind. Like most books, the first chapter is where you are... When his mother leaves, he decides to practice his aim with a rifle. Oops!!! He didn t know it was loaded! He immediately thinks he is dying when he sees blood all over him. You can call him melodramatic. It was only his nose which spews blood everytime he gets the slightest shock.. Throughout the book I learned that Jack is a bit irresponsible and troublesome for a brainiac kid. He is a history buff and would much rather read a dictionary before even touching The Hunger Games or anything like that... because Jack is terrified of death. In the summer of 1962 he is has to learn how to cope with his fears. In fact one main theme in this book is growing up. But before he does, he gets himself into a ton of trouble from firing a sniper rifle to mowing down his mom s corn. Now he is grounded for the summer! His vacation plans are completely ... It s a therapy quietly championed since the early 1990s by a California physician who s earned the nickname Dr. Maggot. But Dr. Ronald Sherman s maggots are getting more attention since, in January, they became the first live animals to win Food and Drug Administration approval, as a medical device to clean out wounds. A medical device? They remove the dead tissue that impedes healing mechanically, FDA determined. It s called chewing. But maggots do more than that, says Sherman, who raises the tiny, worm like fly larvae in a laboratory at the University of California, Irvine. And in the spring, University of Iowa researchers reported early evidence that drinking whipworm eggs, which causes a temporary, harmless infection, might soothe inflammatory bowel disease by diverting the overactive immune reaction that causes it. There s a little more yuck factor with maggots. Most people know of them from TV crime dramas, where infestations of bodies help determine time of death. Actually, maggots medicinal qualities have long been known. Civil War surgeons noted that soldiers whose wounds harbored maggots seemed to fare better. In the 1930s, a Johns Hopkins University surgeon s research sparked routine maggot therapy, until antibiotics came along a decade later. At first PC users said Macs had under powered processors and buggy software, while Mac users only stated Windows 98. Today the argument is much more complicated, and no one is going to win this war. Mac users will say the security, usability, and design are better, while the PC users will say the price, software compatibility, and choice is better. So there has always been this war about what is better, Mac or PC, but in the end it comes down to personal preference. PC and Mac have always had different core operating systems. • 9. Why Do We Need Crime Statistics Across the country there are cities that range from millions of residents to thousands. There are also some towns that have a couple hundred barely enough to be called a town. When you look at crime you think of these places and wonder where there could possibly be more crime. In a city a lot of crime is normal do to the population but in a small town with smaller population you won t see that. The amount of crimereported and processed in a place are the crime statistics and it can vary depending on the situation. Crime statistics can be taken in two ways (boundless.com). One way it can be taken is crime reports and surveys. Surveys are super important because it can show that people who had a crime happen to them didn t call in or report the crime. A crime that is not reported to the policeis a dark figure of crime (Schmalleger, Frank). These are super important and are sometimes found out about in only surveys. Imagine how many more crime statistics there would be if the dark figures of crime were reported and how many more criminals we could stop. Crime control helps keep order in cities. In his book, Sacred Hoops, he describes his approach to coaching a group of acknowledged stars. He clearly understands that simply collecting a set of outstanding players does not a championship team make. One way of understanding his approach is to think of every problem or project having components in four different spheres: 1.Mental, logical, scientific, technical 2.Systems or how the parts all connect and interact 3.Emotional, feelings, intuition 4.Ethical, spiritual and issues of being. Following a career as a player Jackson applied his understanding to coaching basketball teams. You can t expect a team to perform in a way that is out of tune with its natural abilities, so empowering individuals even superstars to mindfully acknowledge their true abilities and accept what they can and can t change moves any team toward a greater cohesion. Focusing on the awareness of the moment, instilling the notions of selflessness in action and the value of compassion towards fellow players are some of the teachings that Jackson provided for his players. Somehow I never associated the competitive world of a professional sport with Zen practice but clearing the mind and opening the heart is just as relevant there as anywhere else. In dealing with the high pressure situation of highly paid athletes constantly under media scrutiny Jackson, via his practice has been able to reflect on his own actions, look into his essential nature and find solutions to all sorts of problems the Tao of Authority leads him. Zen is life, so why not let the eightfold path lead you to a method of coaching basketball? Even if right action means calling it quits sometimes and it involves losing. Question How would the implementation of a structured recess program affect the number of behavior referrals during intermediate recess? Introduction The goal of this action research project is to determine if a structured recess program would decrease aggressive behavior on the playground which in turn would decrease the number of behavior referral forms that would have to be written up. There is a growing problem in our schools; children do not know how to play during recess time. Children are spending more and more time in front of the television, video games, or other sedentary non play activities. They are not learning how to play properly with other children and are coming to school not knowing what to do during recess time (Patrick, 1996). As they inter school it is now the schools job to teach the students how to correctly interact while playing at recess. Recess needs to be the fourth R taught by school (Pellegrini, Bohn, 2005). Putting students on the a playground for recess time when they do not know how to play and interact with other students will only lead to boredom and inappropriate behavior. To avoid these inappropriate behaviors schools have started to use a more structured recess approach to teach children how to play and interact while on the playground. The question then becomes what structured recess program to use and will this program be truly effective? Possible Solution The first solution would be to start to use a structured recess ... He loved people, especially women and children. I would not consider him a true follower of a Christ, but rather a man who does good works. In Titus 3:5 it says, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit. (New King James Version, Tit. 3.5) This verse is basically saying that you cannot get to heaven through good works. When one gets angry it can affect more than just you. It is not wrong to be angry, but it is wrong to act upon our anger. In Ephesians 4:26 it says, Be angry, and do not sin: do not let the sun go down on your wrath. (Ephesians 4.26)This verse is a reminder to not act upon our anger, but also not to hold onto it because it ends up hurting us more by holding onto it. The final lesson I have learned from Robin Hood is to do things the right way. Often times the right way ends up being the harder way, but it is always more rewarding. One of the main reasons Robin had so many enemies is because the things he did were against the law and unjust to certain people. In James 4:17 it says, Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCTION 1.1 Problem Background The Malawi financial scoping survey on micro, small, and medium enterprises (2012) shows that Malawi has close to 760, 000 small business owners generating annual revenue of about US$2billion, but 60 per cent of whom do not use financial services. The small business owners in Malawi are relatively young with an average age of 31 years, with 70 per cent of them having just primary education. The MSME sector creates employment for just over a million people. The 2012 MSME survey established that 59% of MSMEs were excluded from financial services, as opposed to 31% that are formally served by some sort of financial system, with the balance relying on informal services. Only 22% are banked. Over three quarters do not borrow funds, primarily because they doubt their ability to repay loans. Of those who borrow, informal credit systems tend to be the primary source of credit. The survey establishes that the smaller the business in terms of number of employees the less likely that the owner has or uses banking services to manage the finances of their business. In recognition of the role that SMEs play in the economy, the Government of Malawi has made the development of SMEs a priority MSME policy (2007). Rainbow Formation Research Paper Everyone enjoys the site of a rainbow expected after it rains on a sunny day; however, although a rainbow formation is basic optics and geometry, it is highly misunderstood. Many understand the appearance due to dispersion of light, but most do not realize what that entitles. What most people do not expect when looking at a rainbowis that it moves as the observer moves (Cartwright, 1992). Shown in the photo to the left, is a rainbow taken along the countryside in Missoula, Montana. To further discuss how a rainbow works, one must understand the reflection refractiontheories that cause such a formation. Michael Grossman was the first to do econometric research on this topic. Grossman s work established two approaches for consideration. In the first, medical care is viewed as an input in the production function for health, and in the second, as an output produced by medical care providers (Henderson, p.142). There are two main factors that determine the demand for medical care. The first is the patient factor. This includes a patient s health status, demographic characteristics and economic status. The second is the physician factor. This is an interesting topic because it introduces the principal (patient) agent (physician) problem. We are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The public health authorities improved sanitation. Which in return all lead to a decrease in diseases. An increase in technology also helped the cause. Diseases like cancer where slowed due to Chemotherapy and stricter regulations directed to corporations on dumping waste. (Henderson p.145) Genetics also play a major role in determining our health. Half of your genes come from your father and the other half from your mother. There are two factors that play a critical role in determining the health of an individual: the risk of exposure to a particular disease and the ability of the individual to resist the disease (and recover from its consequences) once exposed (Henderson p.144). If your father has high blood pressure then his siblings are susceptible to high blood pressure too. Now we will look at the determinants in the demand for medical care. Challenges of Genre for EFL Teachers Challenges of Genre for EFL teachers In teaching English as Foreign Language (EFL), teachers face a number of challenges when the pedagogy is changed to EFL method. One of the questions is how can teachers know what genre the students need to learn? This is because based on researches, genre are dependent on the discourse community. Therefore, how to explain which genre to teach by school teacher to the students? So, this has become a problem/challenge for EFL teachers to teach genre as researchers from New Rhetoric Studies argue that genre cannot be taught. They point out that genres are so changeable and so context dependent that it makes no sense to teach them outside of that particular context. (Millar, 2011) Moreover, a basic set of general school genre has been introduced to counter that teaching genre is as important as other subject matter to the students where they can apply it in many ways. According to (Hyland, 2003) narration, recounting, argumentation, report and description are included in these school of genre. In this approach the claim is that if students can control and produce a few decontextualized genres such as exposition , discussion , and historical recount , they can produce texts in the genres of a culture (Johns, 2008) Despite that, this type of approach may not teach students enough about how to employ and adapt these patterns to different contexts. Note that in both cases, expectation plays a huge role in determining whether behaviour occurs. Regardless of how big a need or reinforcement, if expectation of satisfaction in a given situation is zero or low, behaviour is unlikely to happen. The concept of external and internal control can be thought of as having low or high expectations for situations that involves personal commitment or action. The primary concerns of this concept involve activities that require one to make judgments about one s own skill or aptitude in a task. If one does not believe that they are skilled, and that any choices they make will make any difference, than activities that are mostly skill based are highly unlikely to occur. • 36. Accuracy or Inaccuracy of Sensory Perception Provide at least three (3) reasons for believing in the accuracy or inaccuracy of sensory information. Sensory perception is the foundation of scientific knowledge and philosophical reality. This is one of the reasons for believing the accuracy of sensory information. Science depends on the standardization of sensory input and instruments. Human sensory organs are generally the same across the species, with few exceptions. One of the reasons why sensory information is accurate is that all human beings can basically agree on data such as the sky being blue, satin being soft, and sugar being sweet. The fact that sensory information provides a common ground for people being human is one of the reasons for believing in the accuracy of sensory information. Another reason for believing the accuracy of sensory data is that it can in many cases be measurable and predictable. This is why sensory information provides the foundation for empirical measurements and scientific data. However, there are also reasons for believing the inaccuracy of sensory information. Reasons include the variability of the human experience, including situational variables like sleep deprivation, hunger, or emotional state of being. Sensory information will be distorted when a person is too tired, angry, or hungry. Another reason to doubt the accuracy of sensory information is that not all hypotheses or issues lend themselves to be measured using sensory data. Cultural differences, gender norms, and other ... To get more accurate results, the participants were not told if all the different liquids had sugar in them or if the sugar amount varies in each solution. Paradoxically, looking at Virginia Woolf s work, The Death of a Moth , one would come to believe that none of that matters because all living beings will suffer the fate of death. She doesn t start to cherish the life of the moth until it faces the near experience of death which discloses several revelations. In Aristotle s rhetoric, such feeling can be defined as pathos: a condition that evokes pity or sadness. Evidence from both works show that humans don t necessarily care about other life forms unless it affects or benefits them in some way, shape or form. So at what point do we,as humans, determine what part of the land is more important than the other? We are also a part of the land pyramid (Leopold). So why do we feel a sort of superiority to the other members of the community or the need to use so many of the land s resources futilely and excessively? The transparent and most logical answer would be sustenance. All creatures live to survive, and death is motivation enough for life to have value. Leopold could have argued that man s exploitation of the land is superfluous, but others could respond with a rebuttal stating that the exploitation is for the betterment of the human society. The puzzling aspect of such situations is that the existence of obligations over and above self interest is taken for granted in such rural community enterprises as the betterment of roads, schools, churches, and baseball teams (Leopold). • 52. The Portrayal of the Powerful in Thomas Mofolo’s novel Chaka According to the English author and philosopher, Edmund Burke, The greater the power, the more dangerous the abuse. (Burke) This often proves to be true in Thomas Mofolo s novel Chaka. Power is often a corruptive concept. If you do not have a genuinely selfless heart, you will become corrupted by your own power, which often happened to those of power in this novel. Power can be expressed through controlling others, but it can also be expressed by disabling others from controlling you by rebelling. Powerlessness occurs when you lose the determination to stop others from controlling you. In Chaka, Thomas Mofolo distinguishes between the powerful and powerless by making the powerful easier to relate to than the powerless, while also showing how very few of the powerless were able to acquire power. The powerless and the powerful have two very distinct roles in this novel. The powerful are given more of a backstory so that we, as readers, can be able to relate and see the humanistic side of the powerful, since a majority of them gravely misuse their power. The powerless, however, are portrayed just as they are: powerless. They are the pawns used to each person of power s advantage and are not given as much of a backstory, unless their story is relevant to a person in power. For example, Nandi, being the illegitimate mistress of Senzangakhona and mother of Chaka, originally had no power. Effects Of World War II On The World History 465 7760 Final Exam Christy Brown May 2, 2015 Prompt 6: Although the war ended in 1945, the effects of World War II are widespread throughout the 20th century and into the 21st. International relations, technological development, economic growth and failure, social upheaval, and many other areas of life were influenced by the war. Explain how World War II influenced the world since 1945. Many changes have occurred in the world today as a result of World War II. Many of those changes include economic growth and failure in various countries, improved or strained international relations between countries, and probably most importantly, vast technological advances in several countries. Many of the differences between post World War II and pre World War II are not immediately visible to the untrained observer, especially in the area of technological advances. It is safe to say, however, that the world would not be what it is today had World War II not brought about the vast changes that it did.
