Design And Implementation Of Select Java Concepts
Nathali Santana
CSC 401 Programming Languages
Assignment 4
11/16/2014
Design and Implementation of Select Java concepts There are many concepts in the design and
implementation of the Java programming language. Six of the many concepts are the final reserved
word, permanent generation in the Java Virtual Machine, the functions of the intern() class, dynamic
scoping using shallow access, dynamic scoping using deep access and the implementation of the
concept of passing a method as a parameter in Java. These concepts have various effects on Java
programming. From improving performance of a program to preventing variable value changing,
these six concepts are all helpful in their own way to the Java programming language. Along with the
implementation of these concepts in Java, similar concepts in other programming languages will also
be looked at.
In Java, there is a reserved word called final. In general, the final reserved word serves as a way to
prevent changing the contents of a Java entity. Fox example, assigning a variable as final double x =
10.2; means that this variable will not be allowed to change its value later on in the program because it
has already been assigned a value. Alternatively, a final variable can be declared without initialization
and can be given a value later. This assignment can only be done once and must be assigned by the
time the program has exited the constructor. The use of final is not only for variables. Final can also be
used when

Summary Of The Book One Flew Over The Cuckoo s
n August 6, 1945, America destroyed the city of Hiroshima with a massive bomb. The bomb kills
nearly 100,000 people and injures 100,000 more. The book traces the lives of six survivors (Reverend
Mr. Kiyoshi Tanimoto, Father Wilhelm Kleinsorge, Toshiko Sasak, Dr. Masakazu Fujii, Dr. Terufumi
Sasaki, Mrs. Hatsuyo Nakamura, )from the when the bomb drops and then a few months after. In
1985, the Author added a fifth chapter, In it He revisits these six people s lives forty years after the
bomb. In conclusion Hersey finds that the effects of nuclear war never faded away. The citizens of
Hiroshima still suffered years after, and nuclear war continues to threaten the entire world.
The main theme of the book to me is the overcoming of such a large devastation in every one of those
people s lives and as a community. In Chapter Four, One feeling they did seem to share, however, was
a curious kind of elated community spirit . . . a pride in the way they and their fellow survivors had

Hatsuyo Nakamura means you are Bright and bold as well as quick tempered,Extremely confident,
such tendencies coupled with a determination to succeed, lead them to constantly seek bigger, better
and more and are die hard feminists. I don t think this meaning really suits Mrs. Hatsuyo, she is a very
strong independent woman who did get herself and kids through a big disaster. She is also very brave
and hopeful as she moved on and tried to make the most of her life with her 3 kids.
Dr. Terufumi Sasaki means you are quick minded, versatile, very expressive, adaptable and creative in
responding to new situations. You have a lack of stability in your affairs as it inclines you to
procrastinate. Dr.Terufumi was a surgeon so he does share some of the attributes like quick minded
and adaptable because he had a new situation to perform on every time he did an operation. He was
also like a hero because he saved thousands of lives after the bomb had

Gram Staining Paper
Background:
Bacteria is a single celled prokaryote microorganisms, rapid mutations causes bacteria can be found
just about anywhere.Gram staining helps to classify two groups of bacteria, Gram positive and Gram
negative. Gram positive bacteria s cell wall has a stronger attraction for crystal violet, because of more
peptidoglycan. Gram negative is a group of bacteria that doesn t retain the crystal violet stain used in
the Gram staining method, making positive identification possible. These are the many characteristics
used to describe the morphology of a bacterial colony; size, shape, color, texture, height, and edge.
Bacteria can be prokaryotic organisms, they lack a nucleus and membrane bound organelles. Most are
unicellular, but some species live ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

females and males who attend schools. Ideas of what women and men are suppose to be and do have
cut across different classifications. Ending unfairness in schools has rested on change to gender roles
mainly women.
Gender roles were planted in political, not religious and ideology, which was after the American
Revolution. Men sustained to have public responsibilities in this emerging country. Men were
presumed to be good neighbors, educated voters, and in charge businessmen. To anticipate boys to
develop virtues, such as obedience to authority, respect for the rights of others, fair play, and
patriotism were how schools were planed. School would supply opportunities to develop proper skills

Haiti Earthquake 7.0 Earthquake
A natural disaster has the capability to cause large scale damage and destruction to an area. Seismic
events have been known to alter landscapes and affect the livelihoods, health and development of
communities. No two earthquake events are the same and the level of threat posed by an earthquake
can vary due to both the human and physical factors of an area. The 2010 magnitude 7.0 earthquake
that occurred in Haiti is an example of where a natural disaster caused a previously vulnerable area to
suffer tremendous loss and debilitating socio economic impacts, to an already poverty stricken nation.
The earthquake occurred on the 12th of January 2010, a slip along the conservative boundary situated
along Haiti caused a significant earthquake with subsequent damaging aftershocks. As can be seen in

The key lessons that have been learnt from the event is that those in charge of ensuring the safety of
Haiti s citizens need to recognize the risk of their location and acknowledge the advice of
seismologists for any future seismic events. The implementation of early warning systems and the use
of SMS messaging as seen in Japan would greatly reduce the hazard of an earthquake. In addition,
environmental management is crucial for the long term survival of Haiti, strategies to reduce
deforestation and claiming back land unsuitable for housing would lead to better soil quality and less
risk of landslides and liquefaction to buildings should another event occur. However, the main lesson
to be drawn from the disaster is the need for proper construction techniques and guidelines. Education
and training to provide construction workers with enough knowledge to make future infrastructure

Media Should Respect Privacy of Public Figures Essay
The Media Should Respect Privacy of Public Figures
How much privacy of the individual is protected under the United States Constitution? Every one is
entitled to the right of privacy, but to what extent is that privacy granted? Public figures are constantly
being harassed and photographed by the media. Some photographers and reporters will go to any
means, even illegal actions, to get a picture or story. However, public figures are human beings like
everyone else, and the media should give them more privacy. The media needs to operate with more
respect for both laws and for moral and ethical codes of conduct. There are laws establishing the
privacy of an individual, and the media needs to extend these rights to public figures. ... Show more

Additionally, the Supreme Court ruled in the 1964 Sullivan v. New York Times case that vulnerability
is taken as a price of admission to the public arena. Thus, the privilege to cover public figures is
almost unlimited, and public figures have few privacy rights.
People reasonably expect privacy inside a house or fenced yard not visible from the street and inside
living facilities such as in hospitals and nursing homes. Photographers need permission to both enter
and photograph these private places. However, anyone is fair game to be photographed and have their
picture published if the photo was taken from a public place. This includes people seen through the
windows of their own home (Dill, 178). However, one New York Court ruled that photographers
shooting inside a restaurant needed permission because the restaurant was a public place for purposes
of dining, and patrons dining there should reasonably be allowed to dine in peace (Dill, 177). Even
though it is currently legal to photograph public figures in the privacy of their own homes, ethically
speaking it does not mean these pictures should be published. However, because ethical codes are not
working, there needs to be legal reform.
Additionally, breaking and entering or using trickery, impersonation, fraud and disguise to gain
admission to a private area are illegal. Even though these acts are illegal, some members of the media
still break the law to get the picture or story they want. Often times,

First Conceptualised By Keith Hart In 1973, The Notion
First conceptualised by Keith Hart in 1973, the notion of informality is broadly defined as explaining
activities which fall beyond the regulation of the state, often resulting from the absence of one or more
forms of state... regulation (Sinha and Kanbur, 2012:2). However, according to McFarlane and Waibel
(2012), informality itself is a nebulous term due to its wide reaching focus from poverty to
marginality, from livelihoods to inequality. They describe informality as more of a metaphor rather
than a concept due to the fluidity and uncertainty of the term, however, they do agree that informality
plays a crucial role not only in the global South, but beyond (McFarlane and Waibel, 2012:1). In many
instances, the state itself has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The stagnation of the global Southern countries in Latin America, Eastern Europe and Africa occurred
in the 1970s and 80s when these countries found themselves trapped by levels of debt to international
public and commercial banks (Williams, 1994:214). Fearing another global depression, large banks
and organisations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) embarked upon structural
adjustment programs (SAPs) in these heavily indebted countries with the aim of restructuring their
traditional economies seen in the global North as symptoms of backwardness (Moser, 1994). The
ability to qualify for monetary aid from the global North was conditional on the adoption of a range of
policies (Craig and Porter, 2003:60) set out by these organisations believed to be necessary for debt
sustainability; central to which was the theory of neoliberalism . The first main condition was the
devaluing of the local currency, intended to encourage exports and limit imports (Williams, 1994),
with the second policy agreement being the reduction in the size of the government bureaucracy. The
initial reason for the debt pile up in these countries was seen as being due to governmental
mismanagement, and therefore money was allocated for the restructuring of the state governments in
order to correct their inefficiency. As a result of the withdrawing

Harvesters Judgement Act Analysis
Social Legislation at the turn of the twentieth century made Australia a more reformed and progressive
nation as a whole. Social Legislation was the result of Federation and made Australia more developed
compared to other countries as their identity was stronger and Australia had a high standard of living
at the time. Social legislation had three main acts which were Harvester Judgement (1907), Invalid
and Old Age Pensions (1908) and Maternity Allowance (1912), these schemes mainly benefited white
Australians. The Harvesters judgement act was established in 1907 and was made so male workers
would have an appropriate wage that could support their wife and three children. It was created by
Justice Henry Bourne Higgens who was the president of the commonwealth conciliation and
arbitration court at the time. Before the act workers would work very long hours with very little pay.
Working conditions were hard and dangerous and due to the low wage protective clothing and hygiene
was an issue. In the 1890 s there were industrial disputes due to conditions and wage which as a result
meant that the new federal government at the time of federation had to resolve this without turning to
violence. In conclusion they found wage the biggest issue after listening to worker s testimony s about
their issues. It was only fair that a minimum wage was to be made which consisted of seven shillings a
day or 42 a week which is roughly $4.20. This was the first time that employers were

The Man He Killed Persuasive Essay

In the book The Things They Carried and the chapter The Man I Killed O Brien is the speaker. He is
talking about the man he killed over in Vietnam. I feel as if O Brien kind of thought way too much
about this guy s life. I also think that he dragged it out a bit more then he needed to. In the poem The
Man He Killed Thomas Hardy is the speaker. He talks about how the guy he killed and himself could
have been good friends if they didn t end up as enemies. He said he had to do what the job was
meaning they were both infantry and he shot him dead to do his duties. But ranged as infantry, And
staring face to face, I shot at him as he at me, and killed him in his place (Hardy Stanza 2) He talks

In O Brien s book when Ted Lavender died everyone was kind of sad in there own way. If it was just
saying what happened over and over again and annoying others by it , or just thinking it in their head ,
thinking it was their fault. When a soldier dies in war the others still alive become sad because the
person they were getting to know and their brother in a way just died right next to them, they had a
connection with each other and now it s gone. In Hardy s poem when he kills the other soldier, his foe
he feels remorse for what he just did. He starts to overthink what he had just done to a man that could
have been his friend, but because their countries were at war, they were foes from the start of the war
even if they were not part of the war yet.
They way that the titles were written The Man He Killed Thomas Hardy , and O Brien s The Man I
Killed I think they both should have just said The Man I Killed because they way it is told it sounds
like they are both talking about them killing someone else. Thomas Hardy could have been talking
about himself or someone else in a war that happened before or an upcoming war that he was just
thinking about and that story popped into his head. In O Brien s story we kind of know it is him
talking about him killing another man even though in past chapters he was talking as if he were them

Asian Women
Nevertheless, many Asian women in particular struggle to adopt status within the society as they are
not heteronormative enough. There are many reasons why Asian women perform cosmetic surgery in
order to look white in an attempt to attain the framework of heteronormativity. One of the reasons why
Asian women want to look white is through gaining benefit in finding a partner. Based on a study of
692 undergraduates, the study has found that white women are more likely to be asked out compared
to non white women. White women have a staggering percentage of 40 percent while non white
women have roughly about 28 percent (Knox Schacht, 2012). Another study conducted from

The media seeks to reinforce the framework of heteronormativity through the lifestyle held by
hegemonic social norms. The public s attitude to cosmetic surgery is heavily influenced by the crucial
role of the sociocultural in particular to the promotion of the body and beauty in the mass media
(Moon, 2015). Within the global media, the image of Asian women is fixed towards depicting social
qualities as exotic, feminine, and seductive. Due to these depictions of Asian women in the media,
Asian women are seen as dolls. In addition, Asian women are not portrayed as humans compared to
white women (Hall, 1995). This negative image of observing Asian women as inferior humans further
affect Asian women status within the concept of heteronormativity. Therefore, Asian women perform
cosmetic surgery to look white in order to alter their image and gain their power. The role of the mass
media contributes strong self images that correspond with the consumer culture, in regard to the desire
to buy the ideal beauty commodity (Askegaard, Gertsen, Langer, 2015). Since western beauty is
strongly penetrating within almost every edge of the media in Asia. The beauty ideal of Asia is largely
westernized through the extent where most models or celebrities are western or look western. With
this implementation, Western and domestic models that are embodied to western features are heavily
promoted along the goods in the Asian Market (Kim, 2003). According to Li, Min, and Belk (2008),
having pale white skin is perceived as a symbol of flawless, luxury, and prestige in the Asian cultures.
Whiteness is a source of cultural capital that is related with upper class images (Bourdieu, 1984). In
addition, Asian celebrities with fair skin tie their achievement with whiteness in order to implicit their

Tourism is one of the most international industries. Globalisation is the gradual forging of links
between groups and societies until they finally reach around the globe in several directions (Smith,

services that are able to satisfy a highly diverse customer base (Ueltschy et al., 2007) Now to keep up
with the rising levels of globalization in the hotel industry, there s a need to understand not only the

My Passion For Learning
I desire to see the world from many different perspectives and I am committed to being a lifelong

Origin of Hindu Religion
A Hindu ( pronunciation (help·info), Devanagari: हिन्दु) is an adherent of Hinduism, a set of religious,
philosophical and cultural systems that originated in the Indian subcontinent. The vast body of Hindu
scriptures, divided into Śruti ( revealed ) and Smriti ( remembered ), lay the foundation of Hindu
beliefs, which primarily include dhárma, kárma, ahimsa and saṃsāra. Vedānta and yoga are one of the
several core schools of Hindu philosophy, broadly known as the Sanātana Dharma. The word Hindu is
at times attributed to all persons professing Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism or Sikhism as is used in the
Constitution of India.[1]

The early medieval Puranas helped establish a religious mainstream among the pre literate tribal
societies undergoing acculturation. The tenets of Brahmanic Hinduism and of the Dharmashastras
underwent a radical transformation at the hands of the Purana composers, resulting in the rise of a
mainstream Hinduism that overshadowed all earlier traditions.[14]
Though Islam came to India in the early 7th century with the advent of Arab traders and the conquest
of Sindh, it started to become a major religion during the later Muslim conquest in the Indian
subcontinent.[12] During this period Buddhism declined rapidly and many Hindus converted to Islam.
Numerous Muslim rulers such as Aurangzeb destroyed Hindu temples and persecuted non Muslims;
however some, such as Akbar, were more tolerant. Hinduism underwent profound changes, in large
part due to the influence of the prominent teachers Ramanuja, Madhva, and Chaitanya.[12] Followers
of the Bhakti movement moved away from the abstract concept of Brahman, which the philosopher
Adi Shankara consolidated a few centuries before, with emotional, passionate devotion towards the
more accessible avatars, especially Krishna and Rama.[15]

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Just In Time
Introduction
Today, numerous companies are willing to keep or own their particular inventory in order to fulfil
endless satisfaction of consumers. However, these stocks may be costly in terms of prices and their

How Inmates Are Assessed During The Booking Process Essay
Karissa Coffey
Methods
Sampling The sample for this study is accumulated by individuals in the criminal justice system
including law enforcement, corrections officers, and mental health analysts that are involved with
individuals that are being booked or process in Ada County Jail. The individuals that are being
analyzed are mentally ill and homeless that has been booked into Ada County Jail in Boise, Idaho that
requires treatment for mental health issues. This research will be gathered from a probability sampling
technique. Since the individuals being questioned are typically homeless or continually entered into
the system, the data being analyzed will already be entered into the system. Therefor this study will be
conducted using a simple or systematic random sampling technique. The research will analyze how
inmates are assessed during the booking process. The study conducted will be gathered from both the
inmates and the corrections staff. The information that is assembled from the questionnaires will help
the researchers to analyze the mental health for inmates. This could potentially help professionals to
treat and diagnose the incoming individuals with mental health issues. This research sampling method
would be useful in this study because it takes the entire population of homeless individuals with
mental illnesses and are chosen randomly. This gives a better chance of getting new information from
individuals from both the staff perspectives and the inmates.

What Are New Ideas Threaten Society
New Ideas Threaten Society The heart of the Enlightenment lied at the heart of Paris, France.
Intellectuals gathered throughout Europe to debate and justify new and old ideas. Gatherings were
held to host discussion as reformed concepts spread across Europe though passionate writers and
scholars. Traditional beliefs, customs, and conventions were examined during the Enlightenment by
these people and the citizens that come to read their papers. Controversy brewed as power holders and
religion met with the power of reason, but these ideas spread through Europe in a variety of methods.
For one, the introduction of Denis Diderot s Encyclopedia, Encyclopédie, sparked curiosity among
intellectual readers. With its ample amount of general knowledge in science, the goal was to change

Salons were where writers, artists, philosophers, and other intellectuals gather informally to exchange
ideas. The concept of salons may have originated in the 1600s when noblewomen of Paris invited
friends over to discuss poetic readings. By the 1700s woman began questioning their role in society,
hosting salons to contribute and gain knowledge to improve social status
(http://westerncivguides.umwblogs.org). Primarily, the goals of salons were to build and a network of
writers by discussing ideas and encouraging readers to become writers of their own

How Does Jane Austen Use Consumer Culture In Northanger Abbey
Jane Austen (16 December 1775 18 July 1817) was a famous English novelist, who is eminently
known for her six novels. Those novels, which include Northanger Abbey also, comment upon the
lifestyle, norms, practices, and social existence of British landed gentry towards the end of the 18th
century. Apart from that, her novels show the dependence of young girls on marriage in order to get a
pleasant social place and financial security. In Northanger Abbey, she gives the social image of
different characters and employs different structures such as etiquettes, social behavior, estates, and
preoccupation with consumer culture and fashion to show their place in the hierarchy.
Though there are different themes, which Jane Austen, explores in her novel Northanger Abbey, the
idea of consumer culture in her time and related social culture appealed to me the most. It is a general
habit of Jane Austen that she explores the norms and habits of English society ... Show more content

In Northanger Abbey, Austen has shown that most of the characters value themselves in relation to the
material wealth they possess. In other words, the material wealth becomes a scale for their identity and
social image. Accordingly, Mrs. Allen is always preoccupied with this fear that she might shred her
latest ball gown. In another instance, Isabella constantly compares and contrasts her attire with those
of other women while walking with Catherine. General Tilney is another example of a person who
measures everything according to and for wealth. Even he values people, not because of their innate
qualities but the wealth that person possesses. These examples show that people in Austen s time from
rich class used to live for the sake of the wealth they possessed and accordingly, their sense of self was
affected and grounded in their material wealth and social

The Five Factor Model Of Personality
The five factor model (FFM) is a contemporary construct describing personality. It incorporates five
traits openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism also referred to as
OCEAN. Within each dimension, there are specific personality attributes, for example, openness
includes subcategories of feelings and actions. The FFM was influenced by Cattell s 16 factor model
(1957) and shares traits with many other personality theories such as Eysenck s PEN model. There has
been an ongoing debate discussing how many factors appropriately represent the brain structure of
personality, suggestions have varied from 2 7, recently Almagor et al. (1995) advocated that a 7 factor
model unfolds when evaluative traits are involved. Costa Mcrae (1992) claim that the FFM is the best
theory of personality, however, the model has received much criticism. Through examining different
aspects of the model its credibility can be explored. Universality is the core basis of a credible theory,
studies have been found to replicate the five factors of personality repeatedly. However, this evidence
has been obtained purely from replications involving urban and literate populations. Gurven et al.
(2013) examined the universality of the theory further by obtaining a sample consisting of 632
Tsimane forager horticultural inhabitants of Bolivia. The sample was, therefore, illiterate and from a
native society an area of study not previously conducted for the FFM. The

Food Issues At Stetson University
There are many devastating food issues in society; the same is true on college campuses. Problems
such as food waste, nutrition problems, and affordability are only a few of the troubles intertwined
with food. A college campus is much like a small city, it s residents, the students produce a lot of food
waste like anyone else, and if the university does not actively seek to combat the problem of food
waste, it will run ramped. Every day, on the campus of Stetson University, roughly 3,000 students eat
on campus. Thus, it can be a massive and complicated problem to solve; however, making small
changes to become proactive in the problem will make a sizeable impact.
Stetson University may not have vast food options, yet for a small campus, it has a decently large
quantity. The school contains the standard school cafeteria, but it also offers a couple of chain
restaurants such as Johnny Rockets, Einstein s Bagels, a Food Truck, and a partially licensed
Starbucks. I live on campus; as a result, I eat on campus nearly every day so what types of food and
the health choices the school makes directly affects me, as I am not able to eat off campus too often.
The food truck is always interesting as it has a different regional food theme each week, so it is always
fun to see what is the theme of the week. The other restaurants have a set menu as they are not a
university owned chain, but they still offer a wide list of options. Unfortunately, some of the options
on campus are not too healthy. The cafeteria serves about half healthy and has unhealthy foods, so
sometimes it can be very tempting to make unhealthy nutrition choices. Although they do attempt to
display the healthy homemade style foods at the front and the unhealthy pizza and desert like foods
towards the back. It is important for the university to take an active approach in assisting students who
strive to eat healthily.
Typically, I eat breakfast every day at Einstein s Bagels, and my other two meals at the cafeteria or the
food truck. It is rare for me to purchase anything from Starbucks or Johnny Rockets. In the cafeteria I
generally eat healthy, nutritious options, I eat quite a bit of vegetables and meat only a couple of times
a week. However, others

Taking each of these experiments into mind, my research group, consisting of Brian Muriithi, Cade
Curran, Champlin Janz, Eric Altilanochir, and myself, decided to conduct the same study in 1951 with
our own Asch Line experiment. The purpose of our experiment was similar to the one of Asch s in
1951: to examine the extent of the effect social pressure from the majority of a group has on a person.
For this experiment, we drew a series of three different lines on different sheets of poster paper. Two
lines were similar, while one was radically different from the rest. For each trial, we would place two

Causes Of The Fourth Crusade
Out of revenge and urge of desire, Pope Innocent II called for the Fourth Crusade in 1198. The
original plan was a military conquest to reconquer Jerusalem through Egypt, as Muslim held much
power in that region. From 1202 to 1204 the Fourth Crusade took a bizarre turn to the attack of fellow
Christian regions through alliances, poor calculations, and series of decisions with the goal of sacking
Jerusalem that ultimately led to the sacking of Constantinople in 1204.
With the decision of traveling by sea rather than land, six representatives were sent to Venice to make
an agreement of transportation. The deal included ships, knights, and horses with the assistance of
Dodge enrico Dandolo, ruler of Venice, for 84,000 marks of silver. Dandello, known for his blindness
and age, proved a major role and leader in the Fourth Crusade. Another leader emerged with the death

Inman’s Spiritual Journey In Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier
Cold Mountain is a popular book and movie written by Charles Frazier. Cold Mountain is a book
about two lovers, Inman and Ada, during the Civil War, who depart on separate journeys in hopes of
reuniting with one another. The novel is viewed as the physical journey of Inman from the Civil War
to Cold Mountain and the inner journey of Ada, but people neglect the sheer importance that Inman s
spiritual journey has on the book. Inman s physical journey is really non connected episodes that are
linked together by the thread that is Inman s spiritual sense. Inman regains his spiritual sense,

core of a big black gum tree...It seemed a poor swap to find that the only way one might keep from
fearing death was to act numb and set apart as if dead already (22). In fact, Inman doubts that he will
ever heal up and feel whole again (25). These excerpts show that Inman sees himself as spiritually
incomplete. It s also evident that Inman has a spiritual reawakening from the sheer change he makes
from the beginning of the book compared to the end. At the beginning of the book, Inman saw his
spirit as blasted away so that he had become lonesome and estranged from all around him as a sad old
heron standing pointless watch in the mudflats of a pond lacking frogs (22). Inman clearly states his
ravaged spiritual state and shows that he doesn t believe in easy answers to the problems of life like
the Christians around him who do not show a connection between their beliefs and their actions. This
type of Christian is demonstrated through Veasey, a preacher who impregnates his black lover and
tries to kill her to cover it up. At

A Journal Entry From An Unnamed Physician
Below is a journal entry from an unnamed physician in the court of King Henry VIII of England,
dated 1540. The article was typed using Microsoft Word, and was then annotated in order to highlight
key pieces of information and to provide the reader with relevant historical and philosophical details.
The entry follows:
While treating a common man with gangrene this morning, I realized that the best course of action
was to perform an amputation. His leg had become gangrenous and if left untreated, the man would
surely succumb to his ailment.
Rather than to call for a barber surgeon, I decided that it would be best to perform the procedure
myself; those surgeons were prone to mistakes and the anatomy I had learned while in Padua earlier
would make the surgery much safer.
I was confronted by Johnathan Watts, another physician in the court, during the procedure. He claimed
to have been searching for me and to my poor fortune, had seen me in the process of amputating the
man s leg. He seemed genuinely offended by what was transpiring, but I had told him to hold his
tongue and to allow me to finish; I had already finished cutting the flesh to the bone and had
commenced cutting through the bone.
He looked at me with disgust and walked away, but not before I heard his threat to inform the Church
authorities about what he had seen. I felt a chill go down my back as he said that and my head began
racing with thoughts of losing my licence and being punished in other ways . Later I

mainly by data ones like Feedlink and OnFeed and American Feedware, and they make a special

It works by entering the blood by diffusion from the alveoli while it is being inhale, but it doesn t mix

Because of nitrous oxide s stability, it is not metabolized. Once the inhalation is cut off, it is
eliminated by diffusion out of the lungs.
In the case of medical care, nitrous oxygen mixed with oxygen prevents pain. Some side effects
include mild hysteria, slower heart rate, and lack of oxygen which can cause death, and, if used
regularly, it can also cause neurotoxic damage. One of the advantages to using nitrous oxide is no one
is allergic to it.
When nitrous oxide is used in cars and rockets, it vaporizes, causing a significant cooling effect on the
intake air. You increase the density of the air when the intake air pressure is reduced. This provides
even more oxygen in the cylinder which is a good thing.
When nitrous oxide is let off into the atmosphere, it attacks the ozone layer, which protects us from

Effects of Chlorinated Drinking Water
Chlorine is added to drinking water, as a disinfectant, to get rid of harmful bacteria, which are usually
present in areas from where the water is obtained. The controversy of this issue is that chlorination can
work as an advantage or as a disadvantage to those consuming it. Chlorine is currently the most
effective water treatment when compared with other alternatives. However, it also reacts with natural
organic compounds present in the water to produce harmful chemicals that on a long term basis are
very dangerous. The most well known adverse effects of contaminated water is shown in the

minimizing all possible health risks caused by contaminated water. The adverse effects of chlorine

A pediatrician should be able to take any problem and analyze it and think of different ways to solve
it. You should be a pretty social person, you re going to talk and interact with many different people
on a daily you don t want to come off uncertain or rude, it wouldn t make parents want to bring their

dramatic and emotional than an adult, compassion would be a good quality to have. You need to be

Quotes On Dehumanization In Night
Although Eliezer survived the bloodcurdling Holocaust, countless others succumbed to the Nazi s
inhumanity. The Nazi s progressively reduced the Jewish people to being little more than things which
were a nuisance to them. Throughout Night, dehumanization consistently took place, as the Nazis
oppressed the Jewish citizens. The Germans dehumanized Eliezer, his father, and other fellow Jews
for the duration of the memoir Night, which had a lasting effect on Eliezer s identity, attitude and
outlook. Wiesel displays the Nazi s vicious actions to accentuate the way by which they dehumanize
the Jewish population. The Nazis had an abundance of practices to dehumanize the Jews including
beatings, starvation, separation of families, crude murders, forced labor, among other horrific actions.
Even though Eliezer was able to persevere, he was dehumanized by the Nazi s in an atrocious and cold
blooded fashion. When a human is emotionally and physically stripped of their pride, it weakens his
or her will to live. The Nazis targeted the Jews humanity, and slowly dissolved their feeling of being
an independant human. Elie Wiesel states He took his time between lashes, only the first really
hurt...twenty four...twenty five. It was over. I had not realized it but I had fainted. (Wiesel 62). In the
case of the Jews doing anything askew, they were to be punished in barbaric ways. This whipping by
the Nazi s had a drastic affect on Eliezer s identity, because before his punishment Eliezer had not yet
altered his inquisitive mindset. Eliezer was at the wrong place at the wrong time, and as a result he
was thrashed and trounced on by one of the German soldiers. This traumatized Eliezer and brought
fear upon him, changing his attitude.
The Nazi s not only dehumanized Eliezer, but they reduced his father from a human being into a thing
that was merely a nuisance. The Nazi s believed that they were on a higher level than the Jews, so they
tried to take whatever dignity the Jews had remaining. Wiesel proves this when stating he slapped my
father with such a force that he fell down and then crawled back to his place on all fours (Wiesel 39).
The instant that the officer hit Eliezer s father, Eliezer was in utter shock. His

The Pros And Consequences Of The Revolutionary War
The CPM had learnt from bitter experience to become smarter, more subtle and sophisticated, more

From there, it directed and manipulated ambitious and unscrupulous surrogates to create trouble, thus

When sufficient trouble had been created, even by apparently non communists or anti communists, a

In a more militant editorial broadcast on the 37th anniversary of its post war insurrection on June

  • 2. Design And Implementation Of Select Java Concepts Nathali Santana CSC 401 Programming Languages Assignment 4 11/16/2014 Design and Implementation of Select Java concepts There are many concepts in the design and implementation of the Java programming language. Six of the many concepts are the final reserved word, permanent generation in the Java Virtual Machine, the functions of the intern() class, dynamic scoping using shallow access, dynamic scoping using deep access and the implementation of the concept of passing a method as a parameter in Java. These concepts have various effects on Java programming. From improving performance of a program to preventing variable value changing, these six concepts are all helpful in their own way to the Java programming language. Along with the implementation of these concepts in Java, similar concepts in other programming languages will also be looked at. In Java, there is a reserved word called final. In general, the final reserved word serves as a way to prevent changing the contents of a Java entity. Fox example, assigning a variable as final double x = 10.2; means that this variable will not be allowed to change its value later on in the program because it has already been assigned a value. Alternatively, a final variable can be declared without initialization and can be given a value later. This assignment can only be done once and must be assigned by the time the program has exited the constructor. The use of final is not only for variables. Final can also be used when ... • 3. Summary Of The Book One Flew Over The Cuckoo s n August 6, 1945, America destroyed the city of Hiroshima with a massive bomb. The bomb kills nearly 100,000 people and injures 100,000 more. The book traces the lives of six survivors (Reverend Mr. Kiyoshi Tanimoto, Father Wilhelm Kleinsorge, Toshiko Sasak, Dr. Masakazu Fujii, Dr. Terufumi Sasaki, Mrs. Hatsuyo Nakamura, )from the when the bomb drops and then a few months after. In 1985, the Author added a fifth chapter, In it He revisits these six people s lives forty years after the bomb. In conclusion Hersey finds that the effects of nuclear war never faded away. The citizens of Hiroshima still suffered years after, and nuclear war continues to threaten the entire world. The main theme of the book to me is the overcoming of such a large devastation in every one of those people s lives and as a community. In Chapter Four, One feeling they did seem to share, however, was a curious kind of elated community spirit . . . a pride in the way they and their fellow survivors had stood up to a dreadful ... Hatsuyo Nakamura means you are Bright and bold as well as quick tempered,Extremely confident, such tendencies coupled with a determination to succeed, lead them to constantly seek bigger, better and more and are die hard feminists. I don t think this meaning really suits Mrs. Hatsuyo, she is a very strong independent woman who did get herself and kids through a big disaster. She is also very brave and hopeful as she moved on and tried to make the most of her life with her 3 kids. Dr. Terufumi Sasaki means you are quick minded, versatile, very expressive, adaptable and creative in responding to new situations. You have a lack of stability in your affairs as it inclines you to procrastinate. Dr.Terufumi was a surgeon so he does share some of the attributes like quick minded and adaptable because he had a new situation to perform on every time he did an operation. Examples Of Contemporary Issues In Childhood Studies Kayla Morello Morello 1 Professor Gimilaro Contemporary Issues in Childhood Studies 8 March 2017 Gender Equity Society s understanding of gender roles debate about gender equity and have always been connected to the social roles that men and women we assigned to shape Americans views of education for girls and boys. What has also been affected is race and social class between females and males who attend schools. Ideas of what women and men are suppose to be and do have cut across different classifications. Ending unfairness in schools has rested on change to gender roles mainly women. Gender roles were planted in political, not religious and ideology, which was after the American Revolution. Men sustained to have public responsibilities in this emerging country. Men were presumed to be good neighbors, educated voters, and in charge businessmen. • 6. Haiti Earthquake 7.0 Earthquake A natural disaster has the capability to cause large scale damage and destruction to an area. Seismic events have been known to alter landscapes and affect the livelihoods, health and development of communities. No two earthquake events are the same and the level of threat posed by an earthquake can vary due to both the human and physical factors of an area. The 2010 magnitude 7.0 earthquake that occurred in Haiti is an example of where a natural disaster caused a previously vulnerable area to suffer tremendous loss and debilitating socio economic impacts, to an already poverty stricken nation. The earthquake occurred on the 12th of January 2010, a slip along the conservative boundary situated along Haiti caused a significant earthquake with subsequent damaging aftershocks. The key lessons that have been learnt from the event is that those in charge of ensuring the safety of Haiti s citizens need to recognize the risk of their location and acknowledge the advice of seismologists for any future seismic events. The implementation of early warning systems and the use of SMS messaging as seen in Japan would greatly reduce the hazard of an earthquake. In addition, environmental management is crucial for the long term survival of Haiti, strategies to reduce deforestation and claiming back land unsuitable for housing would lead to better soil quality and less risk of landslides and liquefaction to buildings should another event occur. However, the main lesson to be drawn from the disaster is the need for proper construction techniques and guidelines. • 7. Media Should Respect Privacy of Public Figures Essay The Media Should Respect Privacy of Public Figures How much privacy of the individual is protected under the United States Constitution? Every one is entitled to the right of privacy, but to what extent is that privacy granted? Public figures are constantly being harassed and photographed by the media. Some photographers and reporters will go to any means, even illegal actions, to get a picture or story. However, public figures are human beings like everyone else, and the media should give them more privacy. The media needs to operate with more respect for both laws and for moral and ethical codes of conduct. There are laws establishing the privacy of an individual, and the media needs to extend these rights to public figures. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, the Supreme Court ruled in the 1964 Sullivan v. New York Times case that vulnerability is taken as a price of admission to the public arena. Thus, the privilege to cover public figures is almost unlimited, and public figures have few privacy rights. People reasonably expect privacy inside a house or fenced yard not visible from the street and inside living facilities such as in hospitals and nursing homes. Photographers need permission to both enter and photograph these private places. However, anyone is fair game to be photographed and have their picture published if the photo was taken from a public place. This includes people seen through the windows of their own home (Dill, 178). However, one New York Court ruled that photographers shooting inside a restaurant needed permission because the restaurant was a public place for purposes of dining, and patrons dining there should reasonably be allowed to dine in peace (Dill, 177). Even though it is currently legal to photograph public figures in the privacy of their own homes, ethically speaking it does not mean these pictures should be published. However, because ethical codes are not working, there needs to be legal reform. Additionally, breaking and entering or using trickery, impersonation, fraud and disguise to gain admission to a private area are illegal. Even though these acts are illegal, some members of the media still break the law to get the picture or story they want. Often times, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, according to McFarlane and Waibel (2012), informality itself is a nebulous term due to its wide reaching focus from poverty to marginality, from livelihoods to inequality. They describe informality as more of a metaphor rather than a concept due to the fluidity and uncertainty of the term, however, they do agree that informality plays a crucial role not only in the global South, but beyond (McFarlane and Waibel, 2012:1). The stagnation of the global Southern countries in Latin America, Eastern Europe and Africa occurred in the 1970s and 80s when these countries found themselves trapped by levels of debt to international public and commercial banks (Williams, 1994:214). Fearing another global depression, large banks and organisations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) embarked upon structural adjustment programs (SAPs) in these heavily indebted countries with the aim of restructuring their traditional economies seen in the global North as symptoms of backwardness (Moser, 1994). The ability to qualify for monetary aid from the global North was conditional on the adoption of a range of policies (Craig and Porter, 2003:60) set out by these organisations believed to be necessary for debt sustainability; central to which was the theory of neoliberalism . The first main condition was the devaluing of the local currency, intended to encourage exports and limit imports (Williams, 1994), with the second policy agreement being the reduction in the size of the government bureaucracy. The initial reason for the debt pile up in these countries was seen as being due to governmental mismanagement, and therefore money was allocated for the restructuring of the state governments in order to correct their inefficiency. Social Legislation was the result of Federation and made Australia more developed compared to other countries as their identity was stronger and Australia had a high standard of living at the time. Social legislation had three main acts which were Harvester Judgement (1907), Invalid and Old Age Pensions (1908) and Maternity Allowance (1912), these schemes mainly benefited white Australians. The Harvesters judgement act was established in 1907 and was made so male workers would have an appropriate wage that could support their wife and three children. It was created by Justice Henry Bourne Higgens who was the president of the commonwealth conciliation and arbitration court at the time. Before the act workers would work very long hours with very little pay. Working conditions were hard and dangerous and due to the low wage protective clothing and hygiene was an issue. In the 1890 s there were industrial disputes due to conditions and wage which as a result meant that the new federal government at the time of federation had to resolve this without turning to violence. In conclusion they found wage the biggest issue after listening to worker s testimony s about their issues. Within the global media, the image of Asian women is fixed towards depicting social qualities as exotic, feminine, and seductive. Due to these depictions of Asian women in the media, Asian women are seen as dolls. In addition, Asian women are not portrayed as humans compared to white women (Hall, 1995). It incorporates five traits openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism also referred to as OCEAN. Within each dimension, there are specific personality attributes, for example, openness includes subcategories of feelings and actions. The FFM was influenced by Cattell s 16 factor model (1957) and shares traits with many other personality theories such as Eysenck s PEN model. There has been an ongoing debate discussing how many factors appropriately represent the brain structure of personality, suggestions have varied from 2 7, recently Almagor et al. (1995) advocated that a 7 factor model unfolds when evaluative traits are involved. Costa Mcrae (1992) claim that the FFM is the best theory of personality, however, the model has received much criticism. Through examining different aspects of the model its credibility can be explored. Universality is the core basis of a credible theory, studies have been found to replicate the five factors of personality repeatedly. • 23. Food Issues At Stetson University There are many devastating food issues in society; the same is true on college campuses. Problems such as food waste, nutrition problems, and affordability are only a few of the troubles intertwined with food. A college campus is much like a small city, it s residents, the students produce a lot of food waste like anyone else, and if the university does not actively seek to combat the problem of food waste, it will run ramped. Every day, on the campus of Stetson University, roughly 3,000 students eat on campus. Thus, it can be a massive and complicated problem to solve; however, making small changes to become proactive in the problem will make a sizeable impact. Stetson University may not have vast food options, yet for a small campus, it has a decently large quantity. The school contains the standard school cafeteria, but it also offers a couple of chain restaurants such as Johnny Rockets, Einstein s Bagels, a Food Truck, and a partially licensed Starbucks. I live on campus; as a result, I eat on campus nearly every day so what types of food and the health choices the school makes directly affects me, as I am not able to eat off campus too often. The food truck is always interesting as it has a different regional food theme each week, so it is always fun to see what is the theme of the week. The other restaurants have a set menu as they are not a university owned chain, but they still offer a wide list of options. Unfortunately, some of the options on campus are not too healthy. The cafeteria serves about half healthy and has unhealthy foods, so sometimes it can be very tempting to make unhealthy nutrition choices. Asch Line Experiment Paper Taking each of these experiments into mind, my research group, consisting of Brian Muriithi, Cade Curran, Champlin Janz, Eric Altilanochir, and myself, decided to conduct the same study in 1951 with our own Asch Line experiment. The purpose of our experiment was similar to the one of Asch s in 1951: to examine the extent of the effect social pressure from the majority of a group has on a person. For this experiment, we drew a series of three different lines on different sheets of poster paper. Two lines were similar, while one was radically different from the rest. For each trial, we would place two confederates, which are stooges that have prior knowledge of the experiment to help us collect data, in a room with a single participant. The ... The original plan was a military conquest to reconquer Jerusalem through Egypt, as Muslim held much power in that region. From 1202 to 1204 the Fourth Crusade took a bizarre turn to the attack of fellow Christian regions through alliances, poor calculations, and series of decisions with the goal of sacking Jerusalem that ultimately led to the sacking of Constantinople in 1204. With the decision of traveling by sea rather than land, six representatives were sent to Venice to make an agreement of transportation. The deal included ships, knights, and horses with the assistance of Dodge enrico Dandolo, ruler of Venice, for 84,000 marks of silver. Cold Mountain is a book about two lovers, Inman and Ada, during the Civil War, who depart on separate journeys in hopes of reuniting with one another. It s also evident that Inman has a spiritual reawakening from the sheer change he makes from the beginning of the book compared to the end. At the beginning of the book, Inman saw his spirit as blasted away so that he had become lonesome and estranged from all around him as a sad old heron standing pointless watch in the mudflats of a pond lacking frogs (22). Inman clearly states his ravaged spiritual state and shows that he doesn t believe in easy answers to the problems of life like the Christians around him who do not show a connection between their beliefs and their actions. This type of Christian is demonstrated through Veasey, a preacher who impregnates his black lover and tries to kill her to cover it up. At ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The article was typed using Microsoft Word, and was then annotated in order to highlight key pieces of information and to provide the reader with relevant historical and philosophical details. The entry follows: While treating a common man with gangrene this morning, I realized that the best course of action was to perform an amputation. His leg had become gangrenous and if left untreated, the man would surely succumb to his ailment. Rather than to call for a barber surgeon, I decided that it would be best to perform the procedure myself; those surgeons were prone to mistakes and the anatomy I had learned while in Padua earlier would make the surgery much safer. I was confronted by Johnathan Watts, another physician in the court, during the procedure. He claimed to have been searching for me and to my poor fortune, had seen me in the process of amputating the man s leg. He seemed genuinely offended by what was transpiring, but I had told him to hold his tongue and to allow me to finish; I had already finished cutting the flesh to the bone and had commenced cutting through the bone. He looked at me with disgust and walked away, but not before I heard his threat to inform the Church authorities about what he had seen. Some side effects include mild hysteria, slower heart rate, and lack of oxygen which can cause death, and, if used regularly, it can also cause neurotoxic damage. One of the advantages to using nitrous oxide is no one is allergic to it. When nitrous oxide is used in cars and rockets, it vaporizes, causing a significant cooling effect on the intake air. You increase the density of the air when the intake air pressure is reduced. This provides even more oxygen in the cylinder which is a good thing. The controversy of this issue is that chlorination can work as an advantage or as a disadvantage to those consuming it. Chlorine is currently the most effective water treatment when compared with other alternatives. However, it also reacts with natural organic compounds present in the water to produce harmful chemicals that on a long term basis are very dangerous. • 34. Quotes On Dehumanization In Night Although Eliezer survived the bloodcurdling Holocaust, countless others succumbed to the Nazi s inhumanity. The Nazi s progressively reduced the Jewish people to being little more than things which were a nuisance to them. Throughout Night, dehumanization consistently took place, as the Nazis oppressed the Jewish citizens. The Germans dehumanized Eliezer, his father, and other fellow Jews for the duration of the memoir Night, which had a lasting effect on Eliezer s identity, attitude and outlook. Wiesel displays the Nazi s vicious actions to accentuate the way by which they dehumanize the Jewish population. The Nazis had an abundance of practices to dehumanize the Jews including beatings, starvation, separation of families, crude murders, forced labor, among other horrific actions. Even though Eliezer was able to persevere, he was dehumanized by the Nazi s in an atrocious and cold blooded fashion. When a human is emotionally and physically stripped of their pride, it weakens his or her will to live. The Nazis targeted the Jews humanity, and slowly dissolved their feeling of being an independant human. Elie Wiesel states He took his time between lashes, only the first really hurt...twenty four...twenty five. It was over. I had not realized it but I had fainted. (Wiesel 62). In the case of the Jews doing anything askew, they were to be punished in barbaric ways. This whipping by the Nazi s had a drastic affect on Eliezer s identity, because before his punishment Eliezer had not yet altered his inquisitive mindset. Eliezer was at the wrong place at the wrong time, and as a result he was thrashed and trounced on by one of the German soldiers. This traumatized Eliezer and brought fear upon him, changing his attitude. The Nazi s not only dehumanized Eliezer, but they reduced his father from a human being into a thing that was merely a nuisance. The Nazi s believed that they were on a higher level than the Jews, so they tried to take whatever dignity the Jews had remaining. Wiesel proves this when stating he slapped my father with such a force that he fell down and then crawled back to his place on all fours (Wiesel 39). The instant that the officer hit Eliezer s father, Eliezer was in utter shock. His ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
