The Killer Angels Michael Shaara
A Review of Michael Shaara, The Killer Angles. New York: David McKay 1974.
By Ankit Khanal.
HTS 3009.
07/18/2017.
The Killer Angels is a historical examination written by Michael Shaara that depicts the four days
of the Battle of Gettysburg that took place during the American Civil War. The book presents
both, factual retelling of events that took place, and the emotional experience of living it, using
key points from both Confederate and Union sides. The book is written from the point of view of
various heroes by using different characters personal experiences and descriptive emotions before
and during the tragic war. This has allowed the reader to grasp the situation through the eyes of
those who has experienced it. Shaara describes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We all think that the civil war was just about southern secession, but in reality, there were various
reason and beliefs that motivated these soldiers to fight for their country. Northerners simply
wanted to restore the Union whereas the Confederates were trying to gain independence from the
Union. This was one of the main reasons why Southern soldiers were more passionate about the
war as they were fighting for their way of life, while Northerners simply wanted to unite a split
nation. Aside from saving the Union, Northerners didn t understand the importance of slavery and
believed that this war was also based on slavery as mentioned by Thomas Chamberlain: If it weren
t for the slaves, there d never have been no war...that s what it s all about, and that s what them
fellers died for...I don t understand it at all. (343). The Battle of Gettysburgalso portrays the
brutality faced by many soldiers, especially citizen turned soldiers like Chamberlain. Unlike
many others fighting, Chamberlain had to struggle to deal with the horrors of the battlefield and
use unconventional methods to survive as mentioned by Chamberlain: Piled up bodies in front
of you to catch the bullets, using the dead for a shield; remember the sound? Of bullets in dead
bodies? . . . Remember the flap of a torn curtain in a blasted window, fragment whispering in that
awful breeze: never, forever, never, forever. (). In the end, these brutalities faced by these soldiers
had adverse effect on them, as they had to live with these horrors for the rest of their

Argumentative Essay On Genetic Engineering
Why live a life with average abilities when we can enhance our abilities through genetic
engineering on our DNA for the greater good? Genetic engineering is the artificial manipulation,
modification, and recombination of DNA or other nucleic acid molecules in order to modify an
organism or population of organisms. It is not exactly a science in a broad sense, but a branch of
biotechnology, which uses methods of molecular and biology, virology, and genetics. Genetic
engineering on the human genome should be approved because it has the potential to make lives
and the world better. Genetic disorders could be permanently eliminated, certain genes could be
reactivated for regrowth of necessary cells, eliminating many neurological disorders, and delaying
ageing, which would expand scientific research in order to many world complications. Through
recombinant DNAtechniques, scientists have already experimented with bacteria and copied their
cellular system that allows them to defend themselves from viruses in order to create a new
restriction enzyme called Cas9, which then gets bound to an RNA guide strand. This new enzyme
introduces new genetic material into the human genome as DNA replicates. This method will be
useful for families members who carry harmful recessive alleles. Their babies could inherit the
genetic disorder, but with recombinant DNA techniques, the harmful gene or genes could easily be
replaced with a functional gene. Lauren Friedman, Senior editor for

Problems With College Bathrooms
College dorms are always a great experience for your first year of college because we get to meet
new people. There is just one problem the bathrooms they could be changed. There should be no
CO ED bathroom, install more showers, give each room their own bathroom, or put locks on the
shower. This is a problem for me because I am not used to someone I don t know coming in the
bathroomwhile I m in the shower. I feel uncomfortable knowing that someone else is in there. There
should be a change in residence hall bathrooms that make students feel more comfortable and safe
while being in the bathroom.
As a college student, I feel as if in each dorm room should consist of a bathroom with a shower,
sink, and toilet. Each dorm should have their own bathroom because it would be more sanitary
than sharing a bathroom with 10 or more people every day. Schools should extend dorm rooms by
taking out the public bathrooms that way they can expand the rooms to fit the bathrooms. It would
also be more convenient to students because they wouldn t have to rush to be the first one in the
shower in the morning it would be right there in the room. You also won t have to worry about
dirty showers or hair stuck in the drains. To get this put into place students could start a petition for
this to happen and if we have enough hopefully the school will take it into consideration. This
would be the best solution because students would feel more comfortable using a bathroom in their
room it could make

Mark Zuckerberg Lawsuit
Did you know that Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Facebook, a social network
designed to help people connect worldwide, faced a big lawsuit due to the creation of Facebook?
While a lot of you may have seen The Social Network, a movie made in 2010 showcasing the
creation and lawsuit Facebook went through, there is much more to Facebook than you may
think. Dropping out of college to pursue a company that isn t guaranteed to help you build a
career is quite the risk, but in rare cases, it can pay off, just as Facebook did for Zuckerberg. With
each growing company, risks must be taken in order to advance, this is exactly what Zuckerberg
does, and he does it well.
In 2004 Mark Zuckerberg decided to build a social networking site, one that would connect
Harvard student to each other using their Harvard email. Under the name TheFaceBook,
Zuckerberg achieved this goal and the social media network was founded. Just a week after he
launched the site in 2004, Mark was accused by three Harvard seniors of having stolen the idea
from them (Nicholas Carlson, 2010). The three Harvard students; Tyler Winklevoss, Cameron
Winklevoss, and Divya Narendra later proceeded to accuse Mark Zuckerberg of stealing their
idea. This accusation turned into a full fledged lawsuit, which lead to the biggest obstacle
Zuckerberg had to overcome to make Facebook what it is today.
Zuckerberg took this lawsuit on head first, showing no fear, by that I mean he seems to have
outsmarted the Winklevoss

The Role Of G Protein Coupled Receptorss
On the surfaces of many eukaryotic cells, G protein coupled receptors (GPCR s) are present.
These receptors are seven trans membrane spanning, with their N terminal on the exoplasmic face
of the plasma membrane and their C terminal on the cytosolic [1]. GPCR s play a role in
intracellular signalling pathways that result in crucial physiological processes. Cellsignalling is an
important process required for cellular activity, coordination and the normal growth and
development of cells. GPCR s transduce extracellular signals allowing them to respond to the
extracellular environment [2]. All GPCR s are coupled to a G proteinwhich is heterotrimeric,
meaning it contains three different G protein subunits: GО±, GОІ and GОі. When an associated...

DAG is lipid soluble and so stays in the membrane whereas IP3 is water soluble, so it diffuses
through the cytosol. This signalling pathway therefore splits into two branches with the second
messengers mediating different functions [4]. On one branch is the signalling cascade downstream
of IP3. The IP3 receptors are located on the lumen of the sarcoplasmic reticulum (endoplasmic
reticulum out with smooth muscle cells) and when IP3 is bound they release their intracellular
Ca2+ store. This release of intracellular Ca2+ increases the Ca2+ concentration in the cytosol from
around 0.1 ОјM to 1 ОјM [5]. This changes the physiology of the cell, therefore Ca2+ is said to be
a second messenger itself. The way in which Ca2+ signals is through the binding of proteins. The
Ca2+ binding proteins transduce this signal of the cytosolic concentration of Ca2+ and these
certain proteins are called mediator proteins. Such a protein is calmodulin, and is only in its active
conformation when Ca2+ is bound. The increase in intracellular Ca2+ by the binding of IP3 to the
IP3 receptors promotes the binding of Ca2+to calmodulin forming the Ca2+/calmodulin complex.
Proteins that are members of the Ca2+/calmodulin dependent protein kinase family (CaM kinases)
are activated by Ca2+/calmodulin. It is the formation of this complex that is fundamental for muscle
contraction [4]. Figure 1

Never Cry Wolf Ethos Pathos Logos
Farley Mowat in his book Never Cry Wolf was published in 1963, and in Never Cry Wolf Mowat
uses Pathos and Logos to prove wolves are not the ruthless killers people think they are. The
basic summary of the book is that Mowat is sent to go study the wolves and look at the predator
and prey relationship, because hunters are saying that all the wolves are killing all of the
caribou he discovers that they aren t and only killing what they need. Mowat uses Logos to
persuade us that the wolves are not the ruthless killers people say they are. One of the most
effective ways Mowat uses facts on the Canis Lupis project is that on page (245) Mowat went into
the wolf den he started to measure it for his research is when he turned around and flashed

Joan Didion Analysis
Joan Didion is wearing oversize black sunglasses in a crowded, dark movie theater where the
film about her life is premiering. Standing beside her nephew Griffin Dunne, who directed the
documentary Joan Didion: The Center Will Not Hold (Netflix), the 82 year old Californian s all
black ensemble plays well with her ashy white bob: Tucked slightly under her chin, its color is
stripped and striped, but its body and character are as full as ever. It serves as a reminder that no
matter her age or the style of the decade, her hair always seems effortless and elegant. It was
blunt and short in the 60s, when she released Slouching Towards Bethlehem, the book of essays
that put her on the literary map; long and middle parted to fall into a slight S shaped wave in the
70s, around the time she penned The White Album, which included her harrowing story on the
Manson murders; fringed and peppery in the 80s, and up until the early aughts with its Bush
politics. Throughout it all, her signature lengths appear as if they ve been dried in the easy
Malibu air even when she s physically in New York City. A place where she found her first job, at
Vogue, and a place she loved and found love in, with her late husband, writer John Gregory Dunne.
New York City was also a place she eventually lost, like many other people and places and things in
her life.

salted almonds, soup, and cigarettes. It s

The Christian Subculture
The definition of a subculture is a cultural group within a larger culture. By this statement, I am a
part of the Christianity subculture. This has proven to be paramount to my attitude and behavior.
For example, the doctrine that is taught dictates the way I interact with others verbally, the way I
treat others, the way I feel as a person, and how my emotions are shown. With regards to verbal
interaction, the Holy Bible says Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that
which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. Ephesians 4:29
(KJV) . I do my best to speak as politely as possible to others. I give them the respect that I would

As stated earlier, the verse taken from Luke 6:31 is a perfect quote to describe the way I treat
others. Most people would want to be treated with kindness, respect, and courtesy. I believe that I
do this well. By treating people this way, I am in turn treated similarly. This is commonly known
as, The Golden Rule . The way I feel as a person is directly affected by the scripture of God.
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have
tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33 (KJV) . This verse is
essentially telling us to be happy, and to have peace. I believe that this is done well, and shown
through my actions. I consider myself to be a happy, and an enthusiastic person. Being happy is
a great feeling, and I take pride in the fact that I can be happy despite anything that is
metaphorically thrown at me. These ideals are a component to the way I handle my emotions. He
that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a
city. Proverbs 16:32 (KJV) This is one of the many verses that tell us to control our emotions.
There are also many verses that give us advice for any emotion that we are feeling. If you are
feeling depressed, anxious, or are feeling any form of negative emotion, you can consult the Bible,

Hyperbole And Symbolism In Geoffrey Chaucer s The...
By simple definition, a miller is someone who keeps a mill whether it is corn or small grains. In
The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer defines a miller as a member of the degraded lower class, with
questionable morals and low manner who is a dealer in grain. Chaucer takes the literal definition of
a character and expands it using stereotypical inferences from the medieval time period. In The
CanterburyTales, Geoffrey Chaucerutilizes various literary techniques including symbolism,
hyperbole, and juxtaposition to help characterize pilgrims such as the Miller. The application of
these devices helps to develop the collection as a whole by defining and contradicting
stereotypes within society. Chaucer uses symbolism to expose something about the pilgrims on
this journey. When characterizing the Miller, Chaucer applies many symbols to define him. For
example, the Miller s prologue frequently compares his attributes to a sow. Such as in lines 570
to 572, And, at its very tip, his nose displayed/ A wart on which their stood a tuft of hair./ Red as
the bristles in an old sow s ear. The comparison made between the Miller and the sow indicate
how slovenly and disdainful he was. Swine are often associated with filth and disgrace, which
characterizes the Miller. Another use of symbolism is found when the Miller is compared to a fox
in Line 568. His beard, like any sow or fox, was red. This connection can be made because of the
way the Miller conducts his work. He is cunning, like a

Guatemala Income Inequality
Introduction
Many people lack the knowledge of how some people live in other countries that aren t as
developed as the one we live in. The general population will only notice the beautiful tourist
locations and iconic landmarks which persuade them to visit. What they are unable to see is the
other people who can t benefit from the tourisms industry and those who are employed i low
paying but tough labor jobs. People can live in terrible conditions because of the lack of support or
help their country can provide. In Guatemala for example over half of the children are malnourished

While there are many reasons that change fails to occur, there is indeed a lack of protection,
strength of people s freedom of speech, and corruption within the government. This failure to
protect freedom of speech results in the often deadly threats of journalists, human right activists
and even media outlets. There were approximately 87 complaints of threats and 8 journalists were
killed in 2016. A photographer once took a picture of the Guatemalan President sleeping and
claims say it cost him his job. The failure of strengthening Guatemalans freedom of speech also
causes for citizens to be uninformed of what outrageous events occur in the government when they
fear speaking out. Corruption also could lead to the disappearance of money and constituents trust
for the government. These tragic events then feed to the malicious cycle of having corrupt
government officials and resulting in no changes made to benefit the people of Guatemala.
Uruguay ranks 74 when 100 is highly clean in a transparency index done in 2015 however
Guatemala ranks 111 when 180 is the most corrupt. To maintain its low corruption Uruguay has
adopted different policies. Uruguay has set a regulatory law that balances communication sectors
and regulates the rights of people on communication because of the belief that media monopolies
are indeed bad for democracy. This would allow

Psychological Process Analysis
Description of Psychological process:
When I began examining specific cross cultural differences in psychological processes, a particular
example that resonated heavily and constantly in my head came from the original article called:
Cultural and Educational Influences on Pain of Childbirth by Dr. Matisyohu Weisenberg and
Zahava Caspi. In this study the authors examined the effects that educational history and differing
sociocultural families of origin have on communicated ratings of pain and specific pain behavior
prevalent during childbirth (Weisenberg et al., 1989). On a more elementary level, the authors
investigated the disparities in how people verbally and physically react to pain prevalent during
childbirth based upon differences in cultural and educational influences.
In order to quantitatively measure the pain perceived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After describing universally high levels of pain prevalent during child birthing, the researchers go
on to describe that the women in the lower education group were more susceptible to higher levels
of pain ranking and pain behavior across both cultures. By partaking in more years of school,
women become more likely to understand the process, pains, and experience endured by women
during the delivery process helping them mentally prepare for childbirth. Previously in the
article we can see that preparation leads to lower pain behavior yet it doesn t affect pain ranking
(Weisenberg et al., 1989). Prevalent in a study done by Bonnel and Boureau (Bonnel, 1985) we
can see that the pain behaviors, actually, have more to do with self control. With school testing
our self control on a daily basis through a heavy workload and strict management of our grades it
is no wonder why women with increased levels of education rank their pain as

Alternative Energy Solutions For Renewable Energy
With the ever increasing demand of fossil fuels, society has been faced with the problem of a
quickly diminishing supply. We are scrambling for solutions in underdeveloped technology and
overlooked industry. There is much debate on whether any alternative energy solutions are able to
effectively replace fossil fuels. Even if they are, we are then faced with the problem of how
renewable energyprograms could be implemented and improved. There are many aspects of this
debate to consider, including energy demand, financial support, and ecological factors. The
push for alternative energies is essential and the need is eminent, therefore government
subsidization should be made a greater priority in our nation. Over millions of years the
fossilized remains of plants and animals have decayed and been stored in the form of petroleum,
natural gas, or coal underground for our later extraction. This stored energy can then be burned
to use as fuel (DOE 2008). Because these fuels take millions of years to form, the available
supply is limited for our ever progressing industrial society. Our usage is causing a lot of concern
among the energy conscious all over the world due to the fact that many developed nations could
not function without fossil fuels. The main solution to this problem goes by the name of alternative
, renewable , or clean energy. This energy comes from sources apart from fossil fuels, this includes
wind, solar, and geothermal among others (Utah 2013). These

Examples Of Tuesdays With Morrie Aphorism
As you get older, you learn that life is shorter than you think. Researchers explain that one third
of our life is sleeping and another third is working/school. This means humans are usually left
with less than one third of your life which you can do things you love. Today, humans don t
understand how much time they lose doing useless things. The worst thing is sometimes you don
t even know when your end is near. You could even die today from a heart attack or die in a fatal
accident. We are explaining the general truth about many observations which is known as
aphorisms. In Mitch Albom s novel, Tuesdays With Morrie, Morrie demonstrates many examples

you never know when you will need or be needed by your family. If you choose to not forgive or
not move past an issue, you may be left with no one to lean on or any support.
Along with the argument of love, towards the end of the book, Morrie was on the borderline of
death. He was making life easy for him and enjoying every moment of his last few weeks and
months. Morrie thought of everything in a positive way and even turned every negative thought
to a positive thought when Mitch questioned him. Morrie set goals for himself like talking on as
many talk shows as possible to let people know his life story. Speaking of goals, I believe an
important aphorism in this book is about life goals and dreams. In the novel, Morrie states, If
you really want it, then you will make your dream happen (47). From this quote, I believe this is
important because if you don t set goals for yourself then everything could just go wrong. This
relates to me because I try to set goals for my business. My dad always says, if you fail to plan,
then you plan to fail. I don t want to fail. Without goals, I would continue on with bad habits and
procrastination with most things. Without setting goals would keep me unorganized and messy.

Examples Of Discovery In Hamlet
The play Hamlet presents Hamlet s path, his self discovery. He is questioning his identity and
struggling with his life after his father died, his mother married his uncle Claudius and the big
pressure is on him to accept Claudius as the new king and also his new father. He is still
mourning his real father, he wears only black clothing and he considers his mother s marriage to
be unnatural and sinful. He cannot cope with these things, he does not know who he is anymore
and does not see the political side of his mother s marriage. He starts acting mad, and the only

He sees a father as his rival for mother s love. It is called an oedipal complex after the Greek myth
in which Oedipus kills his father and marries his mother.
There are some critics that say that Hamlet s oedipal complex is explanation for everything he does
in the play, the way he is acting and the main reason why he cannot revenge his father immediately.
Hamlet s relationship with Ophelia is another example. She is different than Gertrude and Hamlet
wants his mother to be jealous. Hamlet s sexual desire for his mother, according to critics, is the
reason why he cannot revenge his father. Only when Gertrude dies Hamlet kills Claudius.
But Hamlet was written when Freud had not been born and his theory about oedipal complex
cannot be applied to Hamlet. It is not likely that Shakespeare knew about this complex while he
was writing Hamlet. Hamlet was not in love with his mother, he was just acting mad because of his
father s death, his mother s marriage and the appearance of the ghost. These events made him feel
alone and confused and in a state of constant thinking, it took him a long time to finally start acting

Descriptive Essay About Homework
Gemless As I parked in the gravel filled lot I settled in my car for a few minutes contemplating
homework from each of my classes. I stepped outside with my belongings; there was a slight
breeze from the remnants of Hurricane Harvey. Clouds dotted the orange tinted sky as the sun
tried to climb up to be fully seen. The day right from the start seemed like a good dayso I went about
smiling and walked blissfully to my normal seat next to my friends. We prepared for the coming
classes that day. The deafening bell sounded and we were on our way to start the actual day. My
classmates and I walked joyfully through the hallways, joking and laughing before reaching our
first period destination. I made my way to the front of the classroom and sat down. The air was
crisp so I took out my jacket and put it on. Our teacher walked in a few minutes late and started to
take attendance. The whole classroom focused on him. After he finished taking attendance, he
slowly reached down into a drawer and pulled out a stack of papers. I stared in disbelief. The stack
of papers he pulled out was actually a pop test. I took the pop test trying to recall everything that
we had learned over the course of two weeks. I focused on the test for most of the class period
and finally turned it in. The morning weather seemed to just be a ruse. This was not a blissful or

other. Our geographic features are fertile soil, hilly coastal plains, forests, lots of rivers, bays,
and wetlands. The climate down here is warm which makes it easier to spread disease, but it s
worth it because it helps with the growth of crops. Our government in the Southern Colonies is
democratic, we elect our own legislature. We have a governor, a governor s court, and a court
system. We are not dominated by any religion which gives you religious freedom. Come down to
the South now and make a huge profit from the cash crops. Target Candidate As the real estate
agent, I believe that our target candidate for the Southern colonies should be a poor farmer. The
reason I believe so is because the Southern colonies offer a lot of lands that the farmer can get.
Also, the climate down here is very good for crops to grow in. All of these cash crops will give the
poor farmer a huge profit. The farmer can also take the advantage of using slaves for his plantations.

Examples Of Logical Fallacies In The Crucible
Logical Fallacies in The Crucible Individuals can connect two varying events to form
assumptions that they base solely on the order of events, known as a post hoc ergo propter hoc
fallacy. Corey Giles states how his wife reading books certainly ties to his ability to pray: and
then she close her book and walks out of the house. And suddenly mark this I could pray again
(Miller 40). Miller shows how individuals can place blame on others with very little proof. This
scene depicts how individuals can believe that events which occur sequentially do not necessarily
have a connection. Therefore, these wrong conclusions can cause individuals to wrongly place
blame on others. Mrs. Putnam recognizes Goody Osburn as a witch because of their past encounters:

Mrs. Putnam assumes the Devil influences her daughter because of her illness: she ails as she must
she never waked this morning, but her eyes open and she walks, and hears naught, sees, naught, and
cannot eat. Her soul is taken, surely (Miller 13). Miller inputs a hasty generalization into this scene
to implicate how quickly individuals can form incorrect conclusions. One must gather multiple
reasons to logically make generalizations. In the play, many individuals accuse others based upon
abrupt criticisms, leading to confusion and miscommunication of information. Giles Corey explains
how others use improbable reasoning for incriminating his wife: he goes to court and claims that
from that day to this he cannot keep a pig alive for more than four weeks because my Martha
bewitch them with her books (Miller 72). Miller portrays how hasty generalizations can cause
wrongful consequences to fall on innocent individuals. Accusations form when people want to find
answers to every dispute, even when they cannot find solutions. As shown in The Crucible,
unevaluated observations can affect others when they mistakenly place blame on

Eyelash Extensions Benefits
There are many benefits for eyelash extensions; if taken good care up the clients lashes can last
up to 2 months. They are good for special occasions (Parties, Weddings Proms). They are also
good for people who would like to cut down their make up routine giving the client longer, thicker
and curlier lashes. The lashes can add definition to your eyes and draw attention to the eyes. They
can look natural or glam depending on what the client would like which is good for all types of
clients.
If your client suffers from alopecia on the eyes or has a habit of pulling their natural lashes out, it is
best not to go ahead with the treatment as the eyelash extensions will not last and the client must
not remove the eyelash extensions on their own. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The therapist must then place lint free pads over the clients bottom lashes, this will prevent the
bottom lashes from being in the way and prevent glue from being stuck to them. Using tweezers
the therapist will place the eyelash extensions on using a bonding solution; this is done by
dipping the end slightly into the solution and then placing it on top of the client s natural
eyelashes individually. The therapist must apply them to the natural lash using a stroking
movement and releasing the tweezers once the lash extension has been placed down. This will
be done for each lash and there will be 50 150 lash extensions applied depending on the client s
preference. Once the therapist has finished application they will get their client to open their eyes
and ensure all extensions are secured in place and a seal could be applied to help them last longer
Home and Aftercare
Client must be advised by the therapist to follow home and aftercare to maintain their lash
extensions
Avoid getting extensions wet for at least 12 hours to allow glue or bonding solution to dry. Do not
use any heat treatments for 48 hours. Do not perm, tint or curl the lash extensions as it will ruin
them and avoid picking or removing the extensions yourself as it will affect the natural lashes.
Avoid wearing eye make up for 24 hours and avoid using make up remover that contains oil based
products.

How Did W. E. B Dubois Impact Society
The Harlem Renaissance was a period in the 1920s when African American achievements in art,
music, and literature flourished. This movement took place in Harlem, New York. During this time
period, lots of influential African American activist arose and aided in the Civil Rights Movement.
The Harlem Renaissance helped to bring the African American community together to form new
ideological thinking, music, and literature. Among one of the many talented artists during this time
was W.E.B DuBois. In my opinion, DuBois helped the African American community become
something more that what society s standard was of them. Also, he is one of the co founders of the
NAACP. Maya Angelou is one of the more modern Civil Rights Activist.

Essay Comparing The Grimm Fairy Tales And Cajun Folk Tales
Both the Grimm fairy tales and Cajun folktales frequently utilize heroines in their stories instead
of heroes. Female protagonists vary from symbols of purity to tricksters between these two types
of tales. It can be seen that levels of agency are also varied.
In the Grimm fairy tales, the heroine is always described as being beautiful and pious. Despite
her devotion to God, she must overcome a series of challenges in order to prove her piety. For
example: in The Girl Without Hands by The Brothers Grimm, the protagonist is very religious,
but the devil comes to take her and eventually her father must cut off her hands. She sticks to her
religion and prays for help, but later the devil comes after her again and gets her exiled. Despite
both these challenges she proves her devotion to God and her hands grow back. In many of these
tales, the women are similarly tested by a devilish force but must persevere and prove their virtue ...

They are shown to have more agency than is typically given to female protagonists. For example: in
Marie Jolie, she actively chooses not to get married for most of her life and when she does she
chooses to leave him when she finds out that he s the devil. Later in life, she decides not to
remarry again. The female protagonists are also not shown to be religious, in fact, they can be the
opposite. This is shown in The Barefoot woman, where the heroine is actually the devil s wife.
These characters do not prove to do things for the good of others. In Marie Jolie she only looks
out for herself and what she wants, ignoring her mother s request to choose a husband. In The
Barefoot Woman, she actively breaks up a loving couple in order to acquire a pair of shoes for
herself. Another strong difference is that these women are not shown to be quite as naive. In The
Barefoot Woman, she deceives her husband, the devil, and is also able to trick the newlywed
couple into breaking

Racial Inequality In Brazil
Towards the end of the 19th century, immigration to Brazil began to rapidly increase. The demand
for coffee continued to increase, and the coffee production industry expanded due to an influx in
immigrants from Japan, Portugal, Spain, Italy, as well as several other European countries. Brazil
was a divided nation, lacking a unified population or shared culture. The goal of allowing an influx
of European immigrants into the country was to conform to European culture, and civilize Brazil.
Essentially, Brazil had desires to whiten the population. The largely black, and Mulatto population
quickly began to transform into predominantly white. Racial inequality and discrimination marked
Brazil, and created distinct divisions amongst the population. Following abolition, Afro Brazilians
had immense difficulty in defining their own place in Brazilian society. Prior to the 1980s, racist
attitudes as well the intention of Westernizing Brazil, made it challenging for Afro Brazilians to
achieve economic or social mobility. Beginning in the 20th century, efforts to diminish racial
inequality became increasingly necessary to Brazil. Afro Brazilians have faced severe inequity
post abolition, however in recent decades the eradication of racial inequality has become
imperative. Scientific racism emerged in Brazil from France, and was rooted from the philosophy
positivism. Positivism was an ideology that declared any rational observation or idea can be

Security Is Not Only Survival, But Living Without Fear
Security is not only survival, but living without fear (Diskaya 2013). These words are essential in
understanding that the answer to dissecting security lay in the balance of varying schools of
thought. This analysis aims to examine whom security is for, rather whom are we securing, be it
the state or the individual. I will argue, going forward that there is no clear cut answer to this
question, for securitymust exhibit factors of each school of thought in order to adequately ensure
annihilation of global insecurity. Analyzing the works of scholars such as Barry Buzan, Ken
Booth, and groups such as the Copenhagen School will offer a broader understanding of security
and what it truly means to be secure. There are five sectors in which... Show more content on

Furthermore, without examining threats to these individuals one cannot adequately examine the
root causes of larger scale global insecurities. For scholars like Ken Booth, the sovereign state is not
the main provider of security, rather one of the main causes of individual insecurity. Booth states
that their own governments rather than foreign armies have killed far more people (Booth 2007).
Traditional security policies effectively conceal some of the most fundamental human needs when
merely focusing on security in terms of aspirations to achieve national interests, thus failing to
protect the individuals that make up the state (Stone 2009). As Booth describes it people and
groups can only achieve true security if they do not deprive others of it (Booth 2007). It is not my
intention nor do I perceive it the intention of others to eliminate the ideals of traditional security all
together, rather it is my aim to reveal this non traditional approach in combination with the all
familiar state centric ideology of the realist and neorealist minds. In order to examine how and why
individual and human security is essential to adequately attempting a global sense of safety, I have
collected a myriad of statistics that assist in illustrating the international need for, as Scott Watson
describes, humanitarianism as securitization (Watson 2011). Data collected by

King Lear And A Thousand Acres Comparison
The tone and themes in Shakespeare s King Lear and Jane Smiley s A Thousand Acres are the
same. In fact, the only difference at the heart of the two versions of this story of familial strife is
perspective. In Shakespeare s King Lear the titular character s youngest daughter, Cordelia, truly
loves her father. Her loyalty to him represents truth and compassion in a story rife with deception
and betrayal. In A Thousand Acres, farmer Larry Cook s youngest daughter Caroline loves her
father just as deeply as Cordelia does Lear. The difference between these two characters is that
Caroline lives in ignorance of her father s true colors. Caroline stands for justice and truth as a
successful lawyer and loyal daughter, but the shifted perspective of A Thousand Acres shows that
she is more in the dark than... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the lead up to Lear and Larry s famous battle with the elements the daughters treatment of him is
portrayed in different lights. Ginny is shown taking part in Rose s bitterness against their father
when they are folding laundry after family dinner, but she still treats him with kindness and
sympathy. Although the Cook daughters treatment of their father is dismissive, just like Regan
and Goneril s treatment of Lear, their love or loyalty for him is still evident beneath that slight
disrespect. Regan and Goneril, however are only shown to be selfish and malicious in their
actions against their father. If the actions of Lear as a father were taken into account in the
wrongdoings of his daughters, some logic may be found in his daughters actions. Lear is a king
and probably pays little attention to his daughters as they are growing up. In that time it would
have been his sole job to rule, not to parent. Lear s lack of attention to his daughters is shown in
the fact that he did not know them well enough to see the sincerity of love in his youngest,

His career grew with the development of classical style and forms, with the symphony, sonata,

Among the operas from this period are Lo speziale, L infedelta delusa and II mondo della luna.
Haydn s job was to prepare the music, adapting or arranging it for the voices of the resident
singers. In 1779 the opera house burnt down; Haydn composed La fedelta premiata for its
reopening in 1781 (Boynick, 2). Until then his operas has largely been comic genres; his last two

published in all the main European centres; under a revised contract with the Esterhaza his
employer no longer had exclusive rights to his music (Boynick, 2).
His work in the 1780s included symphonies, piano trios, piano sonatas, and string quartets. His
influential op.33 quartets, issued in 1782, were said to be in a quite new, special manner: this is
sometimes thought to refer to the use of instruments or the style of thematic development, but

Business Intelligence Tools
We live in a day and age where Business Intelligence (BI) tools are becoming a standard for
businesses. In the past, decision makers gathered data from thick paper reports, long presentations,
and other inefficient tools. However, with rapid advancements in technology, especially in the
field of Information Systems, decision makers need more sophisticated and efficient tools to
make sense of their businesses. Analytical tools are very useful because they allow decision
makers to make decisions at every level of business. We are getting to the point where these tools
are critical for a firm s advancement and competition. One cannot discuss dashboards without first
mentioning the magnitude of today s data. The data is so complex and enormous that it takes so
much effort to clean it up before doing anything with it. Data must be scrubbed, checked for
redundancy, inconsistency, irrelevance, and finally consolidated. These processes are not a joke;
each of them take a significant amount of effort and time. Many BI tools have automated some of
these processes. The next step is taking the consolidated data and inputting it into a system to create
some sort of meaning. This is quite an obstacle because even if the data can be analyzed and trends
identified, it is difficult to convey trends in a meaningful manner ( Oracle International Corporation

Name, etc. . . ? Nick Carraway Hates Phonies F. Scott Fitzgerald s, The Great Gatsby, is a story
filled with love and loss. Love of people, love of things, loss of dreams, loss of innocence, loss of
love... The Great Gatsby can be seen as a romance novel, or a tragedy, or possibly even a coming

Fitzgerald wanted to keep the mythical and almost surreal nature of Mr. Gatsby. Gatsby has
money, a high social ranking, extravagant parties, and a girl to dream about endlessly, whereas
Nick exists almost in the shadows of Gatsby with no dream at all. Nick watches as Gatsby s life

Right Choices In Michael Lehmann s Heathers
Asking a child which snack he prefers, a vegetable or something better suited for dessert, it is
more than likely he will choose the tooth rotting goodness of his favorite treat, even if it is against
his parents demands. It is quite extraordinary how a child, although in a situation less life changing
than an adult may be in, can also make the choice to do something ruthless because it is too
irresistible to pass up. Due to this atavistic tendency, the message of making the right choices is
ubiquitous in media. In Michael Lehmann s drama Heathers, Veronica Sawyer finds difficulty in

The Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass
Revolutionary Freedom In 1845, an African American man named Frederick Douglass released a
thought provoking autobiography that would become a turning point in revolutionary change. The
Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass was the first autobiography Douglass had written
focusing on the real life struggles he has faced during his time spent in bondage. During his time, it
was not common for an African American to have the skills to read and write, and it was especially
uncommon to publish a novel revealing the truth of slavery, while it was still legal at that time.
Provoking revolutionary thought amongst his readers, this narrative will change the world in
ways of equality, speaking for the oppressed, and inducing the philosophical thought of what it
means to truly be free. Douglass believes in equality for all, which is not a typical concept for his
time. In the 1800 s, slavery was legal in the majority of the United States, where whites held all
the power whether it be politically, socially, or economically. Believing that all men were created
equal, Douglass was at a flummox when coming to the realization that he had been born into
slavery, seeing that his freedom has to be worked for, it will not be handed to him as it was to the
white men in his time. Proving to us the difference in the political standing of slaves and white
men, the orator states A representative could not be prouder of his election to a seat in the

Baptist knew Jesus was God s prophesied Son, who he had been teaching about. In fact, John the
Baptist went as far as to say, I should be the one getting baptized by you! (Matthew 3:14.) What an
experience it must have been to baptize Jesus!
13. John baptized Jesus in the Jordan River (Mark 1:9.)
14. According to John 3:27 30, the people, who John the Baptist taught, thought he was the Messiah.
15. John was humble and said I m not worthy of even carrying His sandals (Matthew 3:11.)
16. Not only did the people think John the Baptist was Christ, but they also had a few other ideas
about who he was. Also, they thought he was Elijah or another prophet. All they knew is he was
filled with miraculous power. People had no idea that the power wasn t coming from him, but from
God within him (John 1:21.)

Explain Why Banana Is Good Source Of Pyridoxine
Banana is good source of vitamin B6 (pyridoxine); provides about 28% of daily recommended
allowance. Pyridoxine is an important B complex vitamin that has beneficial role for the treatment
of neuritis, and anemia. Further, it helps decrease homocystine (one of the triggering factor in
coronary artery disease (CHD) and stroke episodes) levels within the human body.
The fruit is also a moderate source of vitamin C (about 8.7 mg per 100g). Consumption of foods
rich in vitamin C helps the body develop resistance against infectious agents and scavenge harmful
oxygen free radicals.
Fresh bananas provide adequate levels of minerals like copper, magnesium, and manganese.

Dollar Tree Analysis
Dollar Tree Analysis Name: Date: Analyze the business level strategies
The sluggish economy has created a perfect storm in favor of the retail business. Dollar Tree, Wal
Mart, and Dollar General have generated significant profits as a result of the sluggish economy.
These firms have embraced the financial opportunity amid consumer pessimism.
This evaluation will disgust the business level strategy practiced by Dollar Tree. We will discuss its
strength, weakness, opportunity, and threats. The organization strength has made it possible to
respond to realistic opportunities. The firm s decision makers thrive to ... Show more content on

This is important because it gives them price differentiation. Dollar General and Family Dollar
prices vary according to the product. Similarly, Wal Mart conveniently operates with low prices to
cater its demographic, but it cannot operate in as many locations. . If a firm has lower costs than its
rivals, other things being equal, it will outperform them (Satterwhite, 2006).
Logically, Dollar Tree business model enriches the customer experience. Its stores are strategically
located near low income neighborhood and are conveniently open to cater its customers.
Competitors such as Dollar General and Family Dollar have similar stores, but they do not have
price differentiation and market power.
Nonetheless, Dollar Tree acknowledges its market power; its competitors, Wal Mart, Dollar
General, and Family Dollar have an uphill battle to reach Dollar Tree business model. Moreover,
Dollar Tree product differentiation gives them an additional leverage over their competitors. As
mention earlier, Dollar Tree sells its entire product for $1 or less. They accomplish this by
purchasing a variety of products from private vendors at wholesale prices. In contrast, its
competitors purchase brand name products at higher prices, thus making it difficult to compete
with Dollar Tree prices. These are the way Dollar Tree utilized to map, scan,

Public Sphere Within The Private Space
The concept of the mediatisation of space has allowed for an understanding of the intertwining of
the public and the private spheres. This experience of the public sphere is seen through the
infusion of symbols and representations within media forms, thus showing us the impact of
changes that the media has catalysed in our individual everyday life. The public sphere within the
private space can be seen in mediums such as Twitter, in which the representation of words and
hashtags have shifted the societal experience. Thus, this idea of mediatisation of space allows for
an understanding of the value and experience of the public in individual lives with the assistance of
signs, symbols and representations. The mediatisation of space is a... Show more content on

For example, the bedroom and messaging apps are both considered privatised space, though one is
physical and the other virtual. Similarly, the park and news websites are both public space, as they
are accessible by the general community, though they differ in scale and degree of publicness.
These ideas of space are inextricably intertwined with the concept of mobility the shifting between
locations and time both linear and non linear (Green 2002, p. 282). The idea of mediatisation is
slightly harder to explain, however, as it is a concept which is an incomplete and still unfolding
historical project (Livingstone 2009, p. 6). It should be also highlighted and noted that the concept
differs from that of the term mediation. Mediation emphasises the complexity of the social space
and the diversity of transformations which arise (Couldry 2008, p. 3), exploring the impact that
media has upon the contemporary society as a whole. Thus, it focuses on examining the
fundamental influence of media on the community. Comparatively, mediatisation, as asserted by
Hepp, Hjarvard and Lundby (2015), endeavours to build a theoretical framework that will allow an
examination into the role of media in transforming social and cultural interaction, and shift
communicative methods. The theory also emphasises on the role of media and how its logics
impact culture and society. Thus, whilst mediation

Analysis Of Disney Company And Its Impact On The World Of...
Despite nearly all forms of modern media readily available at all times in the pockets of our jeans
and hoodies, influences from media on how people perceive gender and its surrounding issues is
often overlooked or ignored under the premise of normalization. One of the top contributors of
media is The Walt DisneyCompany and its affiliated companies such as ABC, Pixar, Touchstone
Pictures, Lucasfilm, and Marvel Entertainment, and from a young age many children grow up on
the films, characters, books, and television series that are produced by the Walt Disney Company.
In the long history of media produced by The Walt Disney Company, beginning with its early
groundbreaking animated shorts all the way to the recent Moana, Disney has been the subject of
much debate, criticism, and praise regarding its portrayal of male and femalecharacters. All forms of
media has portrayed both genders in stereotypical ways (Lindsey, 2015, p. 414), and because
Disney is a media giant, there is a lot of material that is directed to children that influences how
they perceive genderfrom an early age on up, and Disney is no stranger to portraying men and
women in stereotypical ways, even in its most recent films and television series. Disney has
usually depicted women as princesses, queens, homemakers (Yerby, Baron, Lee, p. 4) and villains
that pursue the goal of usurping far younger protagonists goals of happily ever after. Men are
nearly always portrayed as either the hero or the villain.

The Medicinal Properties Of Aloe Vera
Introduction
Aloe vera is one of the endemic plants found in southern Iran and had been utilized in Persian
medicine practices for over 2,500 years (Avijgan, 2016). Aloe vera has also played an important
role in clinical research (Marharjan and Nampoothiri, 2015). It is a succulent, cactus like plant
which belongs to the Aloe cease family which contains more than 400 Aloe vera species
(Vangipuram et al., 2016). Aloe barbadensis Miller (Asphodelaceae) and Aloe aborescens are the
more extensively known species to use for cosmetic, medicinal, and pharmaceutical purposes
(Grindlay and Reynolds, 1986). Aloe vera consists of 75 different ingredients: enzymes, minerals,
sugars, sterols, amino acids, and salicylic acid, just to name a few (Gottlieb, 1980). The leaves of
Aloe vera contain 0.0013% protein and 99.5% water (Reynolds and Dweck, 1999). These features
have made Aloe vera known for its medicinal assets which lead to its use in pharmacological actions
like antibacterial, antifungal, anti inflammatory, antioxidant, antitumor, and immune boosting
(Nair, 2016). Studies have also shown anti microbial potential against Streptococcus pyrogenes,
Streptococcus faecalis, and other infectious diseases caused by bacteria (Heggers et al., 1979).
Therefore, it has been used traditionally as nutritional drinks, vitamins, moisturizers, healing agent
in cosmetics, diabetic patients, sun burn, wounds and digestive tract disorders with no adverse
effects (Yagi, 2002; and Im, 2010). With the

Junk Bond Investments And Its Effects On Investors And...
Though junk bonds do have undesirable impacts on investors and issuers, they do play a vital role
in American finance market and have left a great amount of enduring legacies. There are a number
of advantages that can fully demonstrate the importance and meaningfulness of junk bonds. Firstly,
junk bond investments offer consumer and companies a flexible financial instrument to achieve
maximum returns and increase interest payments. Milken, who took high yield bonds from a
cottage industry to one of the cornerstones of the financial industry, indicated that junk bond is a
better bet than higher grade bonds (Yago, 2003). In the current monetary environment with low
interest rate, junk bonds have served as one of the financial instruments offering a compelling
yield. Therefore, investors have an incentive to take risks in searching for higher returns. As
revealed in The Economist (2010), the issuance of junk bond had shown an increasing trend from
the $150 billion up to $1 trillion and that the revival is likely to be driven by an updated research
for junk bond by investors, people were disappointed with the poor returns on cash or treasuries.
This means that junk bond provides investors with a broader way to make their asset get the
maximum premiums. Secondly, junk bond can help enterprises, especially the small and medium
sized companies, be out of debt obligations. Indeed, many companies which are previously well
preformed in the business market run into financial

A Brief Note On The Cisco Unified Computing System Essay
1.1.3 Case Study 3 [CFA (Country Fire Authority) Agile Responsive Technology] This Australian
organization also deployed the Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS), VMware, and NetApp
to scale Infrastructure in their data center. [10] In addition to this, Cisco Nexus 1000v series
switch was added to provide visibility of virtual machines at the virtual access layer. This helped
to improve the virtualization intelligence of the network. This platform helped to improve
scalability, which was the primary necessity of the organization. [10] The Cisco UCS manager
at the organization is mostly pleased because of the single pane where you can access the
servers and therefore ease manageability. Virtualization now seems an inevitable move for
organizations that want to remain at top notch. With its great benefits it is unavoidable. It is
because of this that I focus my project on Layer 2 domain expansion by VXLAN Overlay
Technology. 1.2 VXLAN [Overlay Technology] The case studies are based on VXLAN basic
idea and its benefits. Originally VXLAN had been invented for the big benefit where in VLAN,
user cannot have more than thousand VLANs in network per device but now, we can get 16
million VXLAN configuration possible on single virtual switch environment using combined
approach of Cisco and VMware products. [13] 1.3 Literature Reviews Various research papers and
existing published patterns on VXLAN documents helped in selecting this topic and two of them

Sex Worker On The Red Light District
If you disrespect prostitutes, you disrespect all women said Metje Blaak, advocate and union
member for sex workers within the red light district (qtd. In Cruz). And, she is right. Being able
to rent women allows men to feel as if they are in possession of the workers. Many times, feelings
of possession can lead to sexual harassment toward women on, and off, the district by tourist
feeling as though they are entitled to a women s body.
That being said, prostitution in Amsterdam is much different than prostitution anywhere else in the
world. Being able to understand what a sex worker on the red light district encounters on a day to
day basis, as well as the history of prostitution can give one a better understanding of the
controversial ground that is the Red Light District (Aalbers). Being of moral and political
controversy, it is no shock that the district leaves such an impression on natives and tourists alike.
Amsterdam legalized prostitution in 2000. The objective of legalization was to ensure that the
government could monitor working condition and wages of those who claim prostitute on their tax
form (Cruz). Prostitution was readily available in Amsterdam long before its legalization. The
government chose to legalize the activity to protect the women, as well as establish a unique tourist
environment that would drive the economy to where it is today. The overall culture found within
the red light district praises sexual empowerment of all genders and

The New World s Tempest
Derek Simmons
July 22, 2015
ENGL 4011
Dr. Frank Brevik
The New World s Tempest The Tempest is a Shakespearean play that takes play on a desert island
somewhere between Tunis and Naples. A hazardous storm appears impacting a ship of European
nobles and mariners; on board are Alonso, King of Naples, Gonzalo, Boatswain, Trinculo, Stefano,
Antonio, Sebastian, and Ferdinand. The nobles are leaving Tunis, Africa after the wedding of
Claribel, daughter of the King of Naples to the prince. Prospero, the former Duke of Milan uses his
sorcery to conjure the very storm that bombards the nobles in order to bring them to the island.
Frey interjects, In 1808, Edmond Malone argued that Shakespeare derived the title and some of
the play s incidents from accounts of a storm and shipwreck experienced by Sir Thomas Gates
and other Jamestown colonists on the Bermuda islands in 1609 (Frey 29).The play entails the
romance of Ferdinand, Alonso s son and Miranda, Prospero s daughter; while also detailing a
twelve year power struggle that is resurfacing itself in a treacherous plot for power. In comparison
to the New World s politics, The Tempestcan be read as a play that deals with these same political
issues: rebellion of constituted authorities, colonization of a new land, dehumanizing of the natives,
marriages and romances of royalty, masters and servants, Christian virtues, and visions of a utopia.
In the New World, there is a balance of power and a struggle to maintain this balance

Determining The Chemical Formula For Two Hydrates Through...
The goals of the experiment are to determine the chemical formulas for two hydrates through
dehydration. Introduction: A chemical equation demonstrates the quantity of atoms of every
component that make up the compound. The atomic proportion of components in the compound is
the same as the molar proportion of those components. This information can be applied to solve for
the mass of one mole of a compound by including the molar masses of the constituent components.
Hydrates are combinations that are salts with water particles synthetically clung to them. Really, the
holding is intriguing in that the water particles bond specifically to the metal cation. Hydrates fall
in an expansive class called coordinated compounds in view of the sort... Show more content on

We could have possibly achieved our expected results if we had allowed the Zinc Sulfate
Hydrate to cool down for those extra four minutes. The experimental error in this lab included
the question whether the digital scale was as precise as it could be, how the cooling time
affected the water in the hydrates, and any miscalculations that could have occurred. The digital
scale could have been more precise since they are more precise scales that could deliver more
accurate masses in this lab. The cooling time caused error when calculating the moles of water
because the actual result was seven moles instead of five moles which was what was calculated.
The calculations could have been potentially miscalculated particularly due to the significant
figures used in the data. The method for this experiment can be improved by maybe using another
object rather than the crucible to allow a faster cooling time that way the calculations for the
analysis have less of a chance of

Nursing In The 19th Century And The 20th Century
Nursing in the 19th century compared to the 20th century
The history of nursing is an important factor that was in high demand, as it had support and major
influence during both World War 1 and 2, due to the excellent healthcare providers. In the 19th
century, women did not require a college degree to practice nursing compared to today s education
system requirements. Due to the women volunteering during the World War, as a healthcare
provider, their work was highly appreciated. In which the government made nursing a profession
within the healthcare system, as nurses were volunteer work. Dock and Stewart (1938) explain how
within the U.S and other nations, the second World War was more helpful in regard to how it
pushed each countries respective government to provide support for nursing. In 2002, the World
Health Organization explains about the declining numbers of nurses around the world, and they
also explain how this issue needed to be fixed to prevent more negative outcomes in which can
later cause more problem like affecting patients. Later that year, the WHO went on to publish
strategic directions for strengthening nursing and midwifery services, which provided a framework
of five key result areas to guide member states in enhancing their support of nurses and midwives
(World Health Organization, 2010). The world health organization explains the issues regarding the
declining of nurses at the beginning of the century and how it is still declined as time passes.

The United States Department Of Labor
The use of contingent workers is an ever increasing practice in today s business world. The United
States Department of Labor (2013) views the same as both sound advancement and reason for
worry. This paper will explore the history, theories, implications for leaders, and relative trends of
this class of workers.
Businessdictionary.com (2015) states that a contingent worker is a Temporary employee who is (1)
hired for contingent work, (2) paid according to hours worked, and (3) draws no benefits that are
commonly available to the regular employees . The contingent workforce consists of temporary,
part time, independent contractors, seasonal, college interns, and leased workers. Often confusion
is present in labeling employees and independent contractors accurately. According to the IRS
(2015) an individual is an independent contractor if the payer has the right to control or direct only
the result of the work and not what will be done and how it will be done. Under common law rules,
anyone who performs services for you is your employee if you can control what will be done and
how it will be done (IRS, 2015).
The employing of contingent workers is an intentional business decision by companies. The search
for greater flexibility, in terms of numbers of employees and in terms of the skills those employees
possess, is the main reason reported by companies for the increasing use of contingent workers.
(Daly, 2013) According to the Department of Labor (2015), employers

Physical education (often abbreviated Phys. Ed. or P.E.) or gymnastics(gym or gym class) is a

incorporate a greater variety of activities. Introducing students to activities like bowling, walking

It is, however, important to note that many school budgets have seen cutbacks and in some
cases physical education programs have been cut. Technology use in physical education New
technology in Physical education is playing a big role in classes. One of the most affordable and
effective would be a simple tape recorder. With the use of a tape recorder students can see the
mistakes they re making in things such as a throwing motion or swinging form[4]. Studies show
that students do find this more effective than having someone just telling them what they are
doing wrong and trying to correct it. Educators also found the use of other technologies such as
pedometers and heart rate monitors very successful, using them to make step and heart rate
goals for students. Other technologies that can be used in a Physical Education setting would
include projectors, GPS and even gaming systems such as Kinect for XBOX360, Wii Fit and
Dance Dance Revolution. Projectors can be used to show students things such as proper form or
how to play certain games. GPS systems can be used to get students active in an outdoor setting
and active exergames can be used by teachers to show students a good way to stay fit in and out of
the classroom setting[7] Another type of technology that is commonly used in Physical Education
is the use of pedometers. Pedemeters do not necessarily track how far a person is going, but it lets
them know the number of steps they are making. It

Violence And Its Effect On Society
Introduction The presence of violence is all around us; embedded in our everyday lives. Such
acts may be masked and subtle; while others are exposed and evident. One thing, however, is
certain, a single act of violence creates a rippling effect of repercussions. The use of violence can
often leave much longer lasting residues of violence which return again in the future (Brand
Jacobsen, 2005, p. 12). This cycle of malice and destruction must end. Thus, where does one
begin to initiate change? Awareness is key in the stand against violence. For I cannot solve the
problem if I am incognizant of it preying in plain sight. Moreover, claims of ignorance and
partial justification are not acceptable excuses to dismiss or ignore the veracity of violence
among us. I believe just as violence can propagate from one act, so can acts of peace. Reflection
I am guilty of turning a blind eye in the face of violence (structural and cultural). I have walked
away and dismissed it in my mind because to acknowledge it makes it real. And once it becomes
real, I have to do something about it. By nature, I am a very anxious person. As such, I am
uncomfortable with uncharted waters and conflict. I do not instigate or involve myself in conflict
to keep my stress level at a minimum. Therefore, I adamantly avoid situations with a propensity
for violence at all costs. Until this class, I was uninformed of the various forms of violence with
the exception of direct violence. However, I believe the

  • 2. The Killer Angels Michael Shaara A Review of Michael Shaara, The Killer Angles. New York: David McKay 1974. By Ankit Khanal. HTS 3009. 07/18/2017. The Killer Angels is a historical examination written by Michael Shaara that depicts the four days of the Battle of Gettysburg that took place during the American Civil War. The book presents both, factual retelling of events that took place, and the emotional experience of living it, using key points from both Confederate and Union sides. The book is written from the point of view of various heroes by using different characters personal experiences and descriptive emotions before and during the tragic war. This has allowed the reader to grasp the situation through the eyes of those who has experienced it. Shaara describes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We all think that the civil war was just about southern secession, but in reality, there were various reason and beliefs that motivated these soldiers to fight for their country. Northerners simply wanted to restore the Union whereas the Confederates were trying to gain independence from the Union. This was one of the main reasons why Southern soldiers were more passionate about the war as they were fighting for their way of life, while Northerners simply wanted to unite a split nation. Aside from saving the Union, Northerners didn t understand the importance of slavery and believed that this war was also based on slavery as mentioned by Thomas Chamberlain: If it weren t for the slaves, there d never have been no war...that s what it s all about, and that s what them fellers died for...I don t understand it at all. (343). The Battle of Gettysburgalso portrays the brutality faced by many soldiers, especially citizen turned soldiers like Chamberlain. Unlike many others fighting, Chamberlain had to struggle to deal with the horrors of the battlefield and use unconventional methods to survive as mentioned by Chamberlain: Piled up bodies in front of you to catch the bullets, using the dead for a shield; remember the sound? Of bullets in dead bodies? . . . Remember the flap of a torn curtain in a blasted window, fragment whispering in that awful breeze: never, forever, never, forever. (). In the end, these brutalities faced by these soldiers had adverse effect on them, as they had to live with these horrors for the rest of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Argumentative Essay On Genetic Engineering Why live a life with average abilities when we can enhance our abilities through genetic engineering on our DNA for the greater good? Genetic engineering is the artificial manipulation, modification, and recombination of DNA or other nucleic acid molecules in order to modify an organism or population of organisms. It is not exactly a science in a broad sense, but a branch of biotechnology, which uses methods of molecular and biology, virology, and genetics. Genetic engineering on the human genome should be approved because it has the potential to make lives and the world better. Genetic disorders could be permanently eliminated, certain genes could be reactivated for regrowth of necessary cells, eliminating many neurological disorders, and delaying ageing, which would expand scientific research in order to many world complications. Through recombinant DNAtechniques, scientists have already experimented with bacteria and copied their cellular system that allows them to defend themselves from viruses in order to create a new restriction enzyme called Cas9, which then gets bound to an RNA guide strand. This new enzyme introduces new genetic material into the human genome as DNA replicates. This method will be useful for families members who carry harmful recessive alleles. Their babies could inherit the genetic disorder, but with recombinant DNA techniques, the harmful gene or genes could easily be replaced with a functional gene. Lauren Friedman, Senior editor for ... • 4. Problems With College Bathrooms College dorms are always a great experience for your first year of college because we get to meet new people. There is just one problem the bathrooms they could be changed. There should be no CO ED bathroom, install more showers, give each room their own bathroom, or put locks on the shower. This is a problem for me because I am not used to someone I don t know coming in the bathroomwhile I m in the shower. I feel uncomfortable knowing that someone else is in there. There should be a change in residence hall bathrooms that make students feel more comfortable and safe while being in the bathroom. As a college student, I feel as if in each dorm room should consist of a bathroom with a shower, sink, and toilet. Each dorm should have their own bathroom because it would be more sanitary than sharing a bathroom with 10 or more people every day. Schools should extend dorm rooms by taking out the public bathrooms that way they can expand the rooms to fit the bathrooms. It would also be more convenient to students because they wouldn t have to rush to be the first one in the shower in the morning it would be right there in the room. You also won t have to worry about dirty showers or hair stuck in the drains. To get this put into place students could start a petition for this to happen and if we have enough hopefully the school will take it into consideration. This would be the best solution because students would feel more comfortable using a bathroom in their room it could make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Mark Zuckerberg Lawsuit Did you know that Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Facebook, a social network designed to help people connect worldwide, faced a big lawsuit due to the creation of Facebook? While a lot of you may have seen The Social Network, a movie made in 2010 showcasing the creation and lawsuit Facebook went through, there is much more to Facebook than you may think. Dropping out of college to pursue a company that isn t guaranteed to help you build a career is quite the risk, but in rare cases, it can pay off, just as Facebook did for Zuckerberg. With each growing company, risks must be taken in order to advance, this is exactly what Zuckerberg does, and he does it well. In 2004 Mark Zuckerberg decided to build a social networking site, one that would connect Harvard student to each other using their Harvard email. Under the name TheFaceBook, Zuckerberg achieved this goal and the social media network was founded. Just a week after he launched the site in 2004, Mark was accused by three Harvard seniors of having stolen the idea from them (Nicholas Carlson, 2010). The three Harvard students; Tyler Winklevoss, Cameron Winklevoss, and Divya Narendra later proceeded to accuse Mark Zuckerberg of stealing their idea. This accusation turned into a full fledged lawsuit, which lead to the biggest obstacle Zuckerberg had to overcome to make Facebook what it is today. Zuckerberg took this lawsuit on head first, showing no fear, by that I mean he seems to have outsmarted the Winklevoss ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Role Of G Protein Coupled Receptorss On the surfaces of many eukaryotic cells, G protein coupled receptors (GPCR s) are present. These receptors are seven trans membrane spanning, with their N terminal on the exoplasmic face of the plasma membrane and their C terminal on the cytosolic [1]. GPCR s play a role in intracellular signalling pathways that result in crucial physiological processes. Cellsignalling is an important process required for cellular activity, coordination and the normal growth and development of cells. GPCR s transduce extracellular signals allowing them to respond to the extracellular environment [2]. All GPCR s are coupled to a G proteinwhich is heterotrimeric, meaning it contains three different G protein subunits: GО±, GОІ and GОі. When an associated... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... DAG is lipid soluble and so stays in the membrane whereas IP3 is water soluble, so it diffuses through the cytosol. This signalling pathway therefore splits into two branches with the second messengers mediating different functions [4]. On one branch is the signalling cascade downstream of IP3. The IP3 receptors are located on the lumen of the sarcoplasmic reticulum (endoplasmic reticulum out with smooth muscle cells) and when IP3 is bound they release their intracellular Ca2+ store. This release of intracellular Ca2+ increases the Ca2+ concentration in the cytosol from around 0.1 ОјM to 1 ОјM [5]. This changes the physiology of the cell, therefore Ca2+ is said to be a second messenger itself. The way in which Ca2+ signals is through the binding of proteins. The Ca2+ binding proteins transduce this signal of the cytosolic concentration of Ca2+ and these certain proteins are called mediator proteins. Such a protein is calmodulin, and is only in its active conformation when Ca2+ is bound. The increase in intracellular Ca2+ by the binding of IP3 to the IP3 receptors promotes the binding of Ca2+to calmodulin forming the Ca2+/calmodulin complex. Proteins that are members of the Ca2+/calmodulin dependent protein kinase family (CaM kinases) are activated by Ca2+/calmodulin. It is the formation of this complex that is fundamental for muscle contraction [4]. Figure 1 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It serves as a reminder that no matter her age or the style of the decade, her hair always seems effortless and elegant. It was blunt and short in the 60s, when she released Slouching Towards Bethlehem, the book of essays that put her on the literary map; long and middle parted to fall into a slight S shaped wave in the 70s, around the time she penned The White Album, which included her harrowing story on the Manson murders; fringed and peppery in the 80s, and up until the early aughts with its Bush politics. This has proven to be paramount to my attitude and behavior. For example, the doctrine that is taught dictates the way I interact with others verbally, the way I treat others, the way I feel as a person, and how my emotions are shown. With regards to verbal interaction, the Holy Bible says Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. Most people would want to be treated with kindness, respect, and courtesy. I believe that I do this well. By treating people this way, I am in turn treated similarly. This is commonly known as, The Golden Rule . The way I feel as a person is directly affected by the scripture of God. These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33 (KJV) . This verse is essentially telling us to be happy, and to have peace. I believe that this is done well, and shown through my actions. I consider myself to be a happy, and an enthusiastic person. Being happy is a great feeling, and I take pride in the fact that I can be happy despite anything that is metaphorically thrown at me. These ideals are a component to the way I handle my emotions. He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city. Proverbs 16:32 (KJV) This is one of the many verses that tell us to control our emotions. There are also many verses that give us advice for any emotion that we are feeling. If you are feeling depressed, anxious, or are feeling any form of negative emotion, you can consult the Bible, ... • 10. Hyperbole And Symbolism In Geoffrey Chaucer s The... By simple definition, a miller is someone who keeps a mill whether it is corn or small grains. In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer defines a miller as a member of the degraded lower class, with questionable morals and low manner who is a dealer in grain. Chaucer takes the literal definition of a character and expands it using stereotypical inferences from the medieval time period. In The CanterburyTales, Geoffrey Chaucerutilizes various literary techniques including symbolism, hyperbole, and juxtaposition to help characterize pilgrims such as the Miller. The application of these devices helps to develop the collection as a whole by defining and contradicting stereotypes within society. Chaucer uses symbolism to expose something about the pilgrims on this journey. When characterizing the Miller, Chaucer applies many symbols to define him. For example, the Miller s prologue frequently compares his attributes to a sow. Such as in lines 570 to 572, And, at its very tip, his nose displayed/ A wart on which their stood a tuft of hair./ Red as the bristles in an old sow s ear. The comparison made between the Miller and the sow indicate how slovenly and disdainful he was. Swine are often associated with filth and disgrace, which characterizes the Miller. Another use of symbolism is found when the Miller is compared to a fox in Line 568. His beard, like any sow or fox, was red. This connection can be made because of the way the Miller conducts his work. He is cunning, like a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While there are many reasons that change fails to occur, there is indeed a lack of protection, strength of people s freedom of speech, and corruption within the government. This failure to protect freedom of speech results in the often deadly threats of journalists, human right activists and even media outlets. There were approximately 87 complaints of threats and 8 journalists were killed in 2016. A photographer once took a picture of the Guatemalan President sleeping and claims say it cost him his job. The failure of strengthening Guatemalans freedom of speech also causes for citizens to be uninformed of what outrageous events occur in the government when they fear speaking out. Corruption also could lead to the disappearance of money and constituents trust for the government. These tragic events then feed to the malicious cycle of having corrupt government officials and resulting in no changes made to benefit the people of Guatemala. Uruguay ranks 74 when 100 is highly clean in a transparency index done in 2015 however Guatemala ranks 111 when 180 is the most corrupt. Psychological Process Analysis Description of Psychological process: When I began examining specific cross cultural differences in psychological processes, a particular example that resonated heavily and constantly in my head came from the original article called: Cultural and Educational Influences on Pain of Childbirth by Dr. Matisyohu Weisenberg and Zahava Caspi. In this study the authors examined the effects that educational history and differing sociocultural families of origin have on communicated ratings of pain and specific pain behavior prevalent during childbirth (Weisenberg et al., 1989). On a more elementary level, the authors investigated the disparities in how people verbally and physically react to pain prevalent during childbirth based upon differences in cultural and educational influences. Previously in the article we can see that preparation leads to lower pain behavior yet it doesn t affect pain ranking (Weisenberg et al., 1989). Prevalent in a study done by Bonnel and Boureau (Bonnel, 1985) we can see that the pain behaviors, actually, have more to do with self control. • 13. Alternative Energy Solutions For Renewable Energy With the ever increasing demand of fossil fuels, society has been faced with the problem of a quickly diminishing supply. We are scrambling for solutions in underdeveloped technology and overlooked industry. There is much debate on whether any alternative energy solutions are able to effectively replace fossil fuels. Even if they are, we are then faced with the problem of how renewable energyprograms could be implemented and improved. There are many aspects of this debate to consider, including energy demand, financial support, and ecological factors. The push for alternative energies is essential and the need is eminent, therefore government subsidization should be made a greater priority in our nation. Over millions of years the fossilized remains of plants and animals have decayed and been stored in the form of petroleum, natural gas, or coal underground for our later extraction. This stored energy can then be burned to use as fuel (DOE 2008). Because these fuels take millions of years to form, the available supply is limited for our ever progressing industrial society. Our usage is causing a lot of concern among the energy conscious all over the world due to the fact that many developed nations could not function without fossil fuels. The main solution to this problem goes by the name of alternative , renewable , or clean energy. This energy comes from sources apart from fossil fuels, this includes wind, solar, and geothermal among others (Utah 2013). These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hamlet s relationship with Ophelia is another example. She is different than Gertrude and Hamlet wants his mother to be jealous. Hamlet s sexual desire for his mother, according to critics, is the reason why he cannot revenge his father. Only when Gertrude dies Hamlet kills Claudius. • 22. Examples Of Logical Fallacies In The Crucible Logical Fallacies in The Crucible Individuals can connect two varying events to form assumptions that they base solely on the order of events, known as a post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy. Corey Giles states how his wife reading books certainly ties to his ability to pray: and then she close her book and walks out of the house. And suddenly mark this I could pray again (Miller 40). Miller shows how individuals can place blame on others with very little proof. This scene depicts how individuals can believe that events which occur sequentially do not necessarily have a connection. Therefore, these wrong conclusions can cause individuals to wrongly place blame on others. Mrs. Putnam recognizes Goody Osburn as a witch because of their past encounters: ... Mrs. Putnam assumes the Devil influences her daughter because of her illness: she ails as she must she never waked this morning, but her eyes open and she walks, and hears naught, sees, naught, and cannot eat. One must gather multiple reasons to logically make generalizations. In the play, many individuals accuse others based upon abrupt criticisms, leading to confusion and miscommunication of information. Giles Corey explains how others use improbable reasoning for incriminating his wife: he goes to court and claims that from that day to this he cannot keep a pig alive for more than four weeks because my Martha bewitch them with her books (Miller 72). Miller portrays how hasty generalizations can cause wrongful consequences to fall on innocent individuals. Female protagonists vary from symbols of purity to tricksters between these two types of tales. It can be seen that levels of agency are also varied. • 30. Racial Inequality In Brazil Towards the end of the 19th century, immigration to Brazil began to rapidly increase. The demand for coffee continued to increase, and the coffee production industry expanded due to an influx in immigrants from Japan, Portugal, Spain, Italy, as well as several other European countries. Brazil was a divided nation, lacking a unified population or shared culture. The goal of allowing an influx of European immigrants into the country was to conform to European culture, and civilize Brazil. Essentially, Brazil had desires to whiten the population. The largely black, and Mulatto population quickly began to transform into predominantly white. Racial inequality and discrimination marked Brazil, and created distinct divisions amongst the population. Following abolition, Afro Brazilians had immense difficulty in defining their own place in Brazilian society. Prior to the 1980s, racist attitudes as well the intention of Westernizing Brazil, made it challenging for Afro Brazilians to achieve economic or social mobility. Beginning in the 20th century, efforts to diminish racial inequality became increasingly necessary to Brazil. Afro Brazilians have faced severe inequity post abolition, however in recent decades the eradication of racial inequality has become imperative. For scholars like Ken Booth, the sovereign state is not the main provider of security, rather one of the main causes of individual insecurity. Traditional security policies effectively conceal some of the most fundamental human needs when merely focusing on security in terms of aspirations to achieve national interests, thus failing to protect the individuals that make up the state (Stone 2009). As Booth describes it people and groups can only achieve true security if they do not deprive others of it (Booth 2007). It is not my intention nor do I perceive it the intention of others to eliminate the ideals of traditional security all together, rather it is my aim to reveal this non traditional approach in combination with the all familiar state centric ideology of the realist and neorealist minds. The Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass Revolutionary Freedom In 1845, an African American man named Frederick Douglass released a thought provoking autobiography that would become a turning point in revolutionary change. The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass was the first autobiography Douglass had written focusing on the real life struggles he has faced during his time spent in bondage. During his time, it was not common for an African American to have the skills to read and write, and it was especially uncommon to publish a novel revealing the truth of slavery, while it was still legal at that time. Provoking revolutionary thought amongst his readers, this narrative will change the world in ways of equality, speaking for the oppressed, and inducing the philosophical thought of what it means to truly be free. Douglass believes in equality for all, which is not a typical concept for his time. In the 1800 s, slavery was legal in the majority of the United States, where whites held all the power whether it be politically, socially, or economically. Believing that all men were created equal, Douglass was at a flummox when coming to the realization that he had been born into slavery, seeing that his freedom has to be worked for, it will not be handed to him as it was to the white men in his time. Proving to us the difference in the political standing of slaves and white men, the orator states A representative could not be prouder of his election to a seat in the American Congress than a slave on one of ... He was just a man, who baptized other people, who believed. There is a lot more to John the Baptist though. 1. It is written that John the Baptist was to fulfill a prophesy mentioned from Isaiah about a messenger being sent ahead, and a voice crying out in the wilderness (Isaiah 40:3 5.) 2. Malachi also prophesied about John in Malachi 3:1. 3. Zechariah and Elizabeth was a couple in their old age. It is stated that John the Baptist lived as a timid man and was straight to the point. My assumption is he did not enjoy preaching in a town. He probably would feel very uncomfortable, so he chose to teach in the wilderness. 11. John the Baptist is the one who baptized Jesus (Matthew 3:13 17.) 12. John didn t intend to baptize Jesus. Immediately, he recognized that Jesus was sinless. John the Baptist knew Jesus was God s prophesied Son, who he had been teaching about. In fact, John the Baptist went as far as to say, I should be the one getting baptized by you! (Matthew 3:14.) What an experience it must have been to baptize Jesus! 13. John baptized Jesus in the Jordan River (Mark 1:9.) 14. According to John 3:27 30, the people, who John the Baptist taught, thought he was the Messiah. 15. John was humble and said I m not worthy of even carrying His sandals (Matthew 3:11.) 16. Not only did the people think John the Baptist was Christ, but they also had a few other ideas about who he was. Also, they thought he was Elijah or another prophet. All they knew is he was filled with miraculous power. People had no idea that the power wasn t coming from him, but from God within him (John 1:21.) 17. This experience of the public sphere is seen through the infusion of symbols and representations within media forms, thus showing us the impact of changes that the media has catalysed in our individual everyday life. The public sphere within the private space can be seen in mediums such as Twitter, in which the representation of words and hashtags have shifted the societal experience. Thus, this idea of mediatisation of space allows for an understanding of the value and experience of the public in individual lives with the assistance of signs, symbols and representations. For example, the bedroom and messaging apps are both considered privatised space, though one is physical and the other virtual. Similarly, the park and news websites are both public space, as they are accessible by the general community, though they differ in scale and degree of publicness. These ideas of space are inextricably intertwined with the concept of mobility the shifting between locations and time both linear and non linear (Green 2002, p. 282). The idea of mediatisation is slightly harder to explain, however, as it is a concept which is an incomplete and still unfolding historical project (Livingstone 2009, p. 6). It should be also highlighted and noted that the concept differs from that of the term mediation. Mediation emphasises the complexity of the social space and the diversity of transformations which arise (Couldry 2008, p. 3), exploring the impact that media has upon the contemporary society as a whole. Thus, it focuses on examining the fundamental influence of media on the community. Comparatively, mediatisation, as asserted by Hepp, Hjarvard and Lundby (2015), endeavours to build a theoretical framework that will allow an examination into the role of media in transforming social and cultural interaction, and shift communicative methods. The theory also emphasises on the role of media and how its logics impact culture and society. Thus, whilst mediation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. The Medicinal Properties Of Aloe Vera Introduction Aloe vera is one of the endemic plants found in southern Iran and had been utilized in Persian medicine practices for over 2,500 years (Avijgan, 2016). Aloe vera has also played an important role in clinical research (Marharjan and Nampoothiri, 2015). It is a succulent, cactus like plant which belongs to the Aloe cease family which contains more than 400 Aloe vera species (Vangipuram et al., 2016). Aloe barbadensis Miller (Asphodelaceae) and Aloe aborescens are the more extensively known species to use for cosmetic, medicinal, and pharmaceutical purposes (Grindlay and Reynolds, 1986). Aloe vera consists of 75 different ingredients: enzymes, minerals, sugars, sterols, amino acids, and salicylic acid, just to name a few (Gottlieb, 1980). The leaves of Aloe vera contain 0.0013% protein and 99.5% water (Reynolds and Dweck, 1999). These features have made Aloe vera known for its medicinal assets which lead to its use in pharmacological actions like antibacterial, antifungal, anti inflammatory, antioxidant, antitumor, and immune boosting (Nair, 2016). Studies have also shown anti microbial potential against Streptococcus pyrogenes, Streptococcus faecalis, and other infectious diseases caused by bacteria (Heggers et al., 1979). • 48. Junk Bond Investments And Its Effects On Investors And... Though junk bonds do have undesirable impacts on investors and issuers, they do play a vital role in American finance market and have left a great amount of enduring legacies. There are a number of advantages that can fully demonstrate the importance and meaningfulness of junk bonds. Firstly, junk bond investments offer consumer and companies a flexible financial instrument to achieve maximum returns and increase interest payments. Milken, who took high yield bonds from a cottage industry to one of the cornerstones of the financial industry, indicated that junk bond is a better bet than higher grade bonds (Yago, 2003). In the current monetary environment with low interest rate, junk bonds have served as one of the financial instruments offering a compelling yield. Therefore, investors have an incentive to take risks in searching for higher returns. As revealed in The Economist (2010), the issuance of junk bond had shown an increasing trend from the $150 billion up to $1 trillion and that the revival is likely to be driven by an updated research for junk bond by investors, people were disappointed with the poor returns on cash or treasuries. This means that junk bond provides investors with a broader way to make their asset get the maximum premiums. Secondly, junk bond can help enterprises, especially the small and medium sized companies, be out of debt obligations. Many times, feelings of possession can lead to sexual harassment toward women on, and off, the district by tourist feeling as though they are entitled to a women s body. The New World s Tempest Derek Simmons July 22, 2015 ENGL 4011 Dr. Frank Brevik The New World s Tempest The Tempest is a Shakespearean play that takes play on a desert island somewhere between Tunis and Naples. A hazardous storm appears impacting a ship of European nobles and mariners; on board are Alonso, King of Naples, Gonzalo, Boatswain, Trinculo, Stefano, Antonio, Sebastian, and Ferdinand. The nobles are leaving Tunis, Africa after the wedding of Claribel, daughter of the King of Naples to the prince. Prospero, the former Duke of Milan uses his sorcery to conjure the very storm that bombards the nobles in order to bring them to the island. Frey interjects, In 1808, Edmond Malone argued that Shakespeare derived the title and some of the play s incidents from accounts of a storm and shipwreck experienced by Sir Thomas Gates and other Jamestown colonists on the Bermuda islands in 1609 (Frey 29).The play entails the romance of Ferdinand, Alonso s son and Miranda, Prospero s daughter; while also detailing a twelve year power struggle that is resurfacing itself in a treacherous plot for power. In comparison to the New World s politics, The Tempestcan be read as a play that deals with these same political issues: rebellion of constituted authorities, colonization of a new land, dehumanizing of the natives, marriages and romances of royalty, masters and servants, Christian virtues, and visions of a utopia. Introduction: A chemical equation demonstrates the quantity of atoms of every component that make up the compound. The atomic proportion of components in the compound is the same as the molar proportion of those components. This information can be applied to solve for the mass of one mole of a compound by including the molar masses of the constituent components. The digital scale could have been more precise since they are more precise scales that could deliver more accurate masses in this lab. The United States Department of Labor (2013) views the same as both sound advancement and reason for worry. This paper will explore the history, theories, implications for leaders, and relative trends of this class of workers. Businessdictionary.com (2015) states that a contingent worker is a Temporary employee who is (1) hired for contingent work, (2) paid according to hours worked, and (3) draws no benefits that are commonly available to the regular employees . The contingent workforce consists of temporary, part time, independent contractors, seasonal, college interns, and leased workers. Often confusion is present in labeling employees and independent contractors accurately. According to the IRS (2015) an individual is an independent contractor if the payer has the right to control or direct only the result of the work and not what will be done and how it will be done. Under common law rules, anyone who performs services for you is your employee if you can control what will be done and how it will be done (IRS, 2015). The employing of contingent workers is an intentional business decision by companies. The search for greater flexibility, in terms of numbers of employees and in terms of the skills those employees possess, is the main reason reported by companies for the increasing use of contingent workers. Such acts may be masked and subtle; while others are exposed and evident. One thing, however, is certain, a single act of violence creates a rippling effect of repercussions. The use of violence can often leave much longer lasting residues of violence which return again in the future (Brand Jacobsen, 2005, p. 12). This cycle of malice and destruction must end. Thus, where does one begin to initiate change? Awareness is key in the stand against violence. For I cannot solve the problem if I am incognizant of it preying in plain sight. Moreover, claims of ignorance and partial justification are not acceptable excuses to dismiss or ignore the veracity of violence among us. I believe just as violence can propagate from one act, so can acts of peace. Reflection I am guilty of turning a blind eye in the face of violence (structural and cultural). I have walked away and dismissed it in my mind because to acknowledge it makes it real. And once it becomes real, I have to do something about it. By nature, I am a very anxious person.
