The From A Los Angeles Seventh- Day Adventists
A man by the name, Victor Houteff was defellowshipped from a Los Angeles Seventh day
Adventists church (CRI) in 1929 and 1930. Due to his unforeseen spiritual movement, Waco
Texas in 1993 experienced a 51 day biblical event like never before seen or experienced since the
first coming of Christ. The Branch Davidians along with the infamous David Koreshcame to be
because of Houteff sharing his Divergent Views with other church members (CRI). It was five
years after he was ostracized from the church that Houteff along with twelve others who believed
that the Holy Ghost proclaimed him to be the Lamb of God, went to Mt. Carmel Texas. Their
purpose was to have a location in which 144,000 could gather in order to fulfill requirements...

On that day in April a man by the name of Benjamin Roden came to Mt. Carmel. The believers
left at the compound learned that Roden was the one sent by God to deliver the message of the
fifth angel spoken of in the Book of Revelation (CRI)
Upon the death of Roden in 1978, the Branch Davidians were once again led by the wife of the
man sent by God. Roden s Wife passed away in 1986 and the reins were passed on to George Roden
the son the messenger and because he was the son of the messengers it was believed by the
Followers that he too was a messenger sent by God. According to George he had inherited, what he
called the divine seal and crown (CRI).
In 1981, Vernon Howell came to be known as the infamous David Koresh came to Mt. Carmel
after being ostracized from a Tyler Texas Church (CRI). A few years after his arrival trouble
started brewing between Koresh and Roden. Koresh and his followers went to kill Roden in 1987
yet failed. Rodan and Koresh challenged one another to resurrect a dead body, Roden was the
successful one. However, the court system in Texas determined that Rodan was not victorious in
the way that they determined him guilty for exhuming a dead body (CRI).

Michel Rolle Research Paper
Michel Rolle Michel Rolle was born on April 21, 1652, into a struggling family in Ambert,
Basse Auvergne (a province in France at the time). Rolle s father was a lowly shopkeeper and
couldn t support his family by himself. For this reason, Rolle left his educational aspirations
shortly after elementary school and began to help support his family. He began working as a
transcriber for a notary and then worked as an assistant to several attorneys in the district around
his home town. He did this while self educating himself in order to work towards a better life for
himself and his family. Rolle moved to Paris in 1675 and worked as a scribe and arithmetical
expert, which led to Rolle teaching himself higher level mathematics. Rolle wasted no time in
starting a family and ended up getting married and having kids shortly after moving to Paris

was still in dire need for a stable job to support his growing family. Shortly after, he accepted a
job requiring him to tutor François Michel le Tellier s, the French Secretary of State for War,

administrative post in the Ministry of War, but Rolle disliked the work and soon resigned. In

Treasury Bonds And The National Debt
Daniel Hysinger
US Treasury Bonds and the National Debt
The U.S. Treasury bond is a low interest way for the government to borrow money. The bond,
along with Treasury notes and bills, form the Securities which the Federal government borrows
from lenders for a set amount of time. Issued by the Department of the Public Debt, a subset of the
US Treasury, they are usually issued in 30 year maturities which pay interest twice yearly. Because
the debt obligation is backed by the tax generating, money printing, and understandably trusted
government of the United States, bonds are generally considered to be a safe or virtually no risk
investment. Thanks to this low risk attribute however, bonds are regarded as very low yield
security, which is exactly why it is a good instrument for the United States government to employ,
as long as it can turn a relatively decent profit on the initial investment. According to the September
30th, 2014 report of Monthly Statement of the Public Debt of the United States, the amount of
Treasury Bonds outstanding totaled $8,167,759 million, I ll call it roughly $8.2 trillion. This
number composes the majority of the combined $12.7 trillion of US Treasury securities
outstanding. These securities outstanding are also known as the national debt. The numbers listed
above, and throughout this paper will disregard debt being owed to intra governmental holdings of
the US, as bonds make up a minuscule (in comparison, only $7.6 million) fraction of what they

Gillette Case
On October 1, 2005, P G acquisition of The Gillette Company. Under the purchase agreement, the
total purchase was approximately $53.4 billion including common stock, the fair value of
vested stock options and acquisition costs. The Gillette oral care, batteries and personal care
businesses were subsumed within the Health Care, Fabric Care and Home Care, and Beauty
reportable segments, respectively. The deal is a bold move by P G Chief Executive A.G.
Lafley, who has led the company out of dark times in the past. Moving too fast on a restructuring
plan implemented by former CEO Jager, the company posted several disappointing quarters and
its stock lost more than half its value in 2000. The merger, would create a larger company with
revenues of more than $60 billion that would have even greater clout against mass market
retailers like Wal Mart, which have been pressuring consumer product suppliers to keep costs
low. Lafley was optimistic that the company would not be forced to divest many properties as
part of an antitrust review. Strengths Lafley, and later Taylor, began recalibrating the company s
strategy in China. P G had entered early, in 1988. But it underestimated the growth of Chinas
upper class, focusing instead on the lower to middle class market. Its diapers, for example,
proved vulnerable to higher end offerings from Japanese competitors; P Gs market share has
fallen nearly five percentage points since 2010, to 37%, according to Euromonitor Citi
Research. Explained Taylor at a recent conference: we looked at it too much like a developing
market as opposed to the most discerning customers in the world is now trying to move
upmarket in China. P G has also shifted more resources back to North America, where it has a
more dominant share. And it has become leaner and less bureaucratic, in part through huge job
cuts 35,000 by the end of 2016. P G has slashed product categories from 15 to 10 to improve
focus. Says Jon Moeller, its longtime CFO: the businesses we are keeping are those where we
have a product technology that makes a consumer difference and, almost to a one, daily use items.
Weaknesses CEO succession is a complex, often messy endeavor. Just ask the board at Disney,

Brazil World Trade Essay
Brazil World Trade
From the 1500 s to the 1930 s the Brazilian economy relied on the production of primary products
for exports. For three centuries Brazil s economy was heavily curbed because since Portugal
discovered Brazil, they subjected it s economy to an imperial mercantile policy or a strictly
enforced colonial pact. Even though Brazil received its independence in 1822, Portugal s phase of
decisions left a lasting, powerful imprint on Brazil s economy and society. In the late eighteenth
century, when wage labor was adopted and slavery was eliminated considerable changes finally
began to occur. Only starting in the 1930 s were the first steps taken to convert key structural
changes by changing Brazil into a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the early 1990s, Brazil was producing about 1 million motor vehicles annually and about
32,000 units of motor driven farming machines. It also was consistently producing 1.8 million
tons of fertilizers, 4.7 million tons of cardboard and paper, 20 million tons of steel, 26 million
tons of cement, 3.5 million television sets, and 3 million refrigerators. In addition, about 70
million cubic meters of petroleum were being developed yearly into fuels, lubricants, propane gas,
and a wide range of petrochemicals. Furthermore, Brazil contains 161,500 kilometers of paved
roads and more than 63 million megawatts of installed electric power capacity.
Despite the respectable figures, the economy is not considered developed. Although the economic
changes since 1947 increased the countries per capita income above US$2,000 in 1980, per capita
income in 1995 was still only US$4,630. Structural change and growth have not distorted drastically
Brazil s awfully unequal distribution of opportunity, wealth and income. Even with striking
increments in economic growth and output, the number of poor has increased sharply. The rural
area of Brazil s Northeast Region, or in the country s large cities or metropolitan areas is where the
greatest concentration of the poor reside. The mission of fixing the country s development pattern
has only been complicated by the political and economic troubles of

What Is The Theme Of The Book Thief
The Book Thief , by Markus Zusak, is a beautiful and astounding novel that brings together the
themes of love and mortality through war and suffering. I had been completely moved by Liesel
Meminger s, the protagonist s, coming of age story and unable to put the book down once I began
to read.
The story is set in 1939, Nazi Germany; begins shortly before the First World War.
Liesel Meminger, a 9 year old foster child, lives with Hans and Rosa Hubermann in the small
town of Molching. Throughout the story, she becomes literate under the guidance of Hans,
befriends a neighbourhood boy Rudy Steiner and also assists Hans in hiding his Jewish friend,
Max Vandenberg, in their basement from the Jewish genocide. As the story progresses, Liesel
begins to lose hope and happiness because all her friends have left her. Hans had been drafted
into the military, Rudy had been recruited to a special athletics school by the Nazis and Max sent
to a concentration camp in Dachau. She also grew hatred for Adolf Hitler as she believed that
his propaganda was to blame for the Holocaust and many innocent deaths including her
biological family. It is Ilsa Hermann, the mayor s wife, who invites Liesel to read in her library
and continue to learn to read and write. Given a blank book from Ilsa, she begins to write a
biography of her life with the Hubermann s in her basement named The Book Thief . During the
process, Liesel survived a bombing attack that killed all her loved ones. Despite the trauma of
deaths, Liesel lived a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Operant Conditioning by B. F Skinner
Introduction People do on a day to day basis, many actions without realizing it, and most of the
time, they don t know why they do them. Certain reinforcements, some positive, and some negative
have conditioned their actions and thoughts. In this essay, I chose Burrhus Frederic Skinner who
came up with the theory of operant conditioning. B. F. skinner,(March 20, 1904 August 18, 1990)
is an American psychologist who believed that we do have such a thing as a mind, but that it is
simply more productive to study observable behavior rather than internal mental events. As
Skinner s theory was based on the earlier work of Thorndike, he also believed that the best way to
understand a behavior is to look at the causes of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example he studies the behavior of rats under carefully controlled laboratory conditions.
Skinner Box Skinner illustrated positive reinforcement by placing a hungry rat in his Skinner
box (Appendix 2). The box contained a lever in the side and as the rat moved about the box it
would accidentally knock the lever. As the lever move, a food pellet would drop into a container
next to the lever. The rats quickly learned to go straight to the lever after a few times of being put
in the box. The consequence of receiving food if they pressed the lever ensured that they would
repeat the action again and again. Skinner illustrated negative reinforcement by placing a rat in his
Skinner box and then subjecting it to an unpleasant electric current which caused it some
discomfort. As the rat moved about the box it would accidentally knock into the lever.
Immediately as it did so, the electric current would be switched off. The rats quickly learned to go
straight to the lever after a few times of being put in the box. The consequence of escaping the
electric current ensured that they would repeat the action again and again.
Human and animals are not alike Based on the Skinner box, we are able to conclude that Skinner
actually conducts and derived his theories from rats and other animals such as pigeon. The
experiment on pigeon was referred to as the Superstition in Pigeon in which a pigeon was kept in a
cage and at regular

Richard Serra has made these tall structures that kind of represent walls or towers. It may depict
how the city of New York is seen to be portrayed as. Many different kind of buildings and sort of
an industrial looking area with many structures and buildings surrounding the millions of people
that walk through it every single day. This may have been why he had decided to create his
sculptures for people to walk through and around them to see what he is trying to portray. Richard
Serra made his first sculpture out of materials such as fiberglass, rubber, and molten lead. Around
1970s, Serra had shifted his normal activities and stated to work on large scale site specific

would a citizen vote ? Davos: Usually, citizens who show up to the assembly can vote by putting
a colored rock into a pot. White corresponds with yes, while the black means no, creating a
private voting environment. After everyone has voted, the different colors of rocks are counted,
the results are tallied, and the final decision is announced. Tacitus: OK, I think I understand this

Essay on Plato on the Existence of Negative Forms
Plato on the Existence of Negative Forms
The question of the origin and nature of evil in the world has preoccupied philosophers throughout
history. The ancient philosopher Plato does not directly address this question in his writings, but it
can be argued that the logic of his theory of forms demands the existence of forms that are negative
in meaning, such as the evil and the bad. When discussing his theory of imitation, Plato alludes to
the principle that whenever there are many things of the same nature, there is one form for that
nature. In several passages, Plato makes mention of many negative things. It can be debated,
however, whether or not the negative has a positive ontological character of its own for ... Show

He writes:
Now, the god either because he didn?t want to or because it was not necessary for him to do so,
didn?t make more than one bed in nature, but only one, the very one that is the being of a bed.
Two or more of these have not been made by the god and never will be.
Why is that?
Because, if he made only two, then again one would come to light whose form they in turn would
both possess, and that would be the one that is the being of a bed and not the other two.[2]
Plato is saying that there is only one form for the many because there is a single nature that is
recognized as unifying each of the many. It is this nature that imitates the form and since the nature
is one, there can only be one form.
There are several points in the Republic where Plato alludes to many instances of a negative
quality, so it can be argued that, according to Plato?s system, there must be one negative form.
For the purpose of analyzing Aristotle?s criticism of Plato, David Ross outlines three distinct
respects in which a term can be considered negative.[3] The first category of negative terms that
Ross identifies are those which are ?purely negative in their meaning? such as the ?not good? or
?not beautiful.? What the many not good have in common is the absence of being good. The
second class of negative terms in Ross?s division encompasses terms that are positive in the sense
that they express a quality

Time Machine Fear
H. G. Wells novella The Time Machine is a story about the price for a life of luxury. Through his
writing, he warns society of what could happen if they continued the path they were on. Arriving in
the future, thanks to the time machine that Wells created, readers observe a world where society
has split into two species. In Victorian England, there was a fear residing in the upper classthat the
working class would engage in an uprising and throw them from power. This brought the desire
for security, which is what the Eloi hold in the year 802,701. Degeneration occurs when people

These include poor air and water quality and the cramped conditions of working class areas of
cities; poor diet; and the use of narcotics such as alcohol, tobacco, or opium (Vorachek 200).
Wells used these environmental factors when creating the living space of the Morlocks. They
lived underground in dark tunnels which the Time Traveller described as very stuffy and
oppressive, and the faint halitus of freshly shed blood was in the air (Wells 54). The cannibalism
of the Morlocks also played on another fear of society in the fin de siГЁcle. Since there was a
fear of the working class causing the degeneration of society, the cannibalistic activities can be seen
as representing the imminent proletarian revolution feared by some following the growth of
militant trade unionism and working class political organisation (Partington 59). The Time
Traveller addressed this fear and how the upper class seemed to have combated it. He stated The
too perfect security of the Upperworlders had led them to a slow movement of degeneration, to a
general dwindling in size, strength and intelligence (Wells 49). The Eloi became comfortable in
their security that they no longer needed to defend themselves; consequently, leading them to being
slaughtered by the

Age Discrimination On The Workforce
Age discrimination in the workforce is a major issue in Today s society. Although this is hardly
ever mentioned, it is a concern that affects the aging population and their work performance.
Those who are of old age are often not given a chance and looked down on. They are thought of
as being mentally and physically in decline, less adaptable, unwilling to be trained, and costly to
the organization. The elderly are considered slow workers. They are often forced to work extra
hard to prove to their employer, they are capable of working as effective as the young. Defining
someone s work performance according to their age is against the law. The Age Discriminationin
Employment Act (ADEA) addresses discrimination against the older population. This Act was
passed by congress to ensure people of age 40 and older are given fair judgment in the workforce;
however, the maturing population of baby boomers has led to an increasing number of elderly
workers. This has cause age discrimination to rise. It is important that we review and analyze age
discrimination has a political issues that must be changed. Although ADEA sets out to help the aging
population, changes should be made within the employer. In order to seek change, one must first
understand ADEA and how it promotes fair treatment for the elderly. Age Discrimination in
Employment Act was established by congress in 1967. It was passed due to the denial of equal
employment opportunities because of stereotypes. Its

BCE to 210 BCE. In his 35 year reign, he managed to create magnificent and enormous construction
projects. He also caused both incredible cultural and intellectual growth, and much destruction

As emperor, Qin Shi Huang reorganized the bureaucracy, abolishing the existing nobility and

weights and measures, and minted new copper coins.
The Great Wall and Ling Canal:
Despite its military might, the newly unified Qin Empire faced a recurring threat from the north:
raids by the nomadic Xiongnu (the ancestors of Attila s Huns).
In order to fend off the Xiongnu, Qin Shi Huang ordered the construction of an enormous
defensive wall. The work was carried out by hundreds of thousands of slaves and criminals
between 220 and 206 BCE; untold thousands of them died at the task.
This northern fortification formed the first section of what would become the Great Wall of China.
In 214, the Emperor also ordered construction of a canal, the Lingqu, which linked the Yangtze and

The Confucian Purge:
The Warring States Period was dangerous, but the lack of central authority allowed intellectuals to

Football Dangers In Football
How dangerous is football in high school? The issue focused on how often the football players get
injured and if high school athletes got injured more than college athletes. Football is a tough sport,
but the results of getting injured, sometimes in that sport are so severe, improvements can be
made to try and make it a safer sport for all the players high schoolor college. Multiple athletes give
it their all out on the field, but some end up with severe injuriesthat can affect them for the rest of
their lives. The article focuses on some of the ways and precautions that athletes and coaches
can do or take to prevent athletes from receiving concussions or worse injuries. This essay
discusses, high school football players are very likely to get injured towards ending season
more than football college players for various reasons. A research associate said, there are ways
to reduce the number and severity of football injuries through targeted intervention. (resource 1)
There were high levels of knee and ankle injuries, due to ligament sprains. A way that can help
to improve on those types of injuries would be stretching exercises. The positions that run a
higher risk of being injured would be the running backs and linebackers. Football is the number
one leading cause of sports related injuries. (resource 1) The key aspect discussed, in this sport,
there is a difference in high school athletes and college athletes for the simple fact that athletes
that are still in high school have brain tissue that has not been fully developed to its full
capacity, whereas football players in college are already adults with their brain tissue developed
completely. Studies show, concussions are more dangerous for teenagers because their brain
tissue is less developed than adults. (resource 2) The gear that football players use should be
safer in terms of being in suitable conditions, multiple young players use unsuitable gear that has
been passed down long past their prime. (resource 2) If their gear was in suitable conditions, there
would be less head injuries occurring to the players specially the high school players because like
anything else those helmets are going to become unsafe and less sturdy. The game could

Speech On Lactose Intolerance
Good morning Miss B and class. Lactose intolerance is often mistaken as an allergy, but it is rather
an intolerance of lactose.
An intolerance is a hypersensitivity to certain food or ingredient. It is not as serious as an allergy
as it does not involve and immune system response. It causes symptoms and their severity ranges
as to how much is ingested. These symptoms can be: Digestive problems, gas build up, cramps,
bloating. People with an intolerance of a substance can ingest small quantities of it.
An allergy is where the immune system reacts to a specific food and regards it as harmful or
toxic. The body produces antibodies in response to the allergen and if the body comes in contact
with any amount, antibodies respond by an allergic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is done by doing the hydrogen breath test. It measures the amount of hydrogen exhaled after
drinking a lactose beverage. Lactose which is undigested is fermented in the colon and these
bacteria produce hydrogen which s exhaled. If you have higher levels of hydrogen exhaled after 90
minutes of drinking the lactose drink, you are then classified as being lactose intolerant.
People must be aware of the risk factors if diagnosed with lactose intolerance, Consuming lactose
products will cause discomfort. Children that are lactose intolerant have a higher risk of getting
rickets and hampered tooth formation, and therefore need to be put on supplements in extreme
cases. Adults must be aware of getting osteoporosis.
Managing with lactose intolerance can be tricky to juggle. People are encouraged to find a level of
lactose that they can handle without having symptoms, through trial and error. When consuming
lactose, it is recommended to have it with a meal as it slows down the digestive process. Cheeses
and yoghurts contain less lactose than milk and could be a better way of introducing calcium to
your diet. Know medication that contains lactose and read food

Women s Roles Over Time
From silent short films of the 19th century to full length films of the 1920s, women have played
important central roles over time. Women have transitioned from submissive conservative roles to
liberal something. A big part of this is due to the view of women changing in history.
The 1800s was a time of, advancement, invention and enterprise in the world of moving images.
Thomas Edison, with the help of his assistants, created and patented the Kinetograph and
Kinetoscope in 1891. These tools later created series of still frames that passed at a continuous
rate. Because of the defect persistence of vision, the average person views a moving image. By
1894, attempts [by Lumiere Brothers] were made to replicate and improve Edison s Kinetoscope
design.
During the mid 1800s, a true woman understood her limitations. This included, modesty,
submissiveness, physical weakness, limited education, and complete devotion to [their] husband.
Any actions that threatened these norms had to be put to a stop. During the late 1800s, there
appeared to be advancements in education and movements for women s rights. Women were
challenging the norms to become more independent. Many women did not want change for the
consequences to come. But as soon as the film industry started, women culture began to reflect
roles of main actresses.
In 1984, a dancer named Carmencita was the first female to be in an Edison motion picture.
Carmencita presents a 21 second dance which was later forbidden to

Biography Of Albert Einstein And Dorothy Parker
The Trial of a Century Albert Einstein and Dorothy Parker, both prominent figures in the 1920 s,
took part in demonstrations over a widely contested trial, as Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti
were convicted in a trial that received mass protests from around the world (Sharrett). The trial of
Sacco and Vanzetti took place during the height of the Red Scare and the massive migration of
immigrants to the United States, where a substantial percentage of immigrants were from Italy.
With the large influx of newcomers and the end of the first World War, many nativist sentiments

On the date of April 15, 1921, Frederick Parmenter, the paymaster for the Slater and Morrill
Shoe Company, received a payroll box from Shelley Neal (Barter 18). In this particular box that
was dropped off at the company s office, a certain dividend was subtracted off of the $30,000
dollars, that was received. He ended up splitting $15,776 amongst 500 employees (Barter 18).
After the division of the money, Frederick Parmenter was accompanied by a guard working for
the shoe company, whose name was Alessandro Beradelli (Barter 18). With the money in hand,
these two individuals made a walk towards the production factory, as this was a routine
procedure made every Thursday throughout the entirety of the year (Barter 18). As they were
nearing the railroad tracks, before the production facility, waiting for the guards to lift the gate,
both men were shot at point blank by two men who were leaning on a rail near the railroad tracks
(Barter 19). After Frederick and Alessandro were fatally shot, the two murderous men approached
the corpses, where they seized the payroll boxes and vacated the area in a blue car with two other
men (Barter 19). Immediately after news of the double murders occurred, the police promptly
arrived on the scene and started an investigation. Consequently, the first police officer on the scene

Analysis Of Tom Jones And Moll Flanders Essay
The novels Tom Jones and Moll Flanders share a commonality, and showcase it in very similar
ways. That commonality is the pursuit of wealth, but at the same time it is also a discrepancy,
which is shown through how the story s title characters set out to obtain it, and their views
regarding it. Before we can divulge what our characters view wealth as, we must grasp an
understanding of the term itself. Merriam Webster s dictionary defines wealth as the value of all
the property, possessions, and money that someone or something has. (Merriam Webster) Wealth
can also be perceived in a spiritual sense, were one is content with their life and often has a strong
relationship with God. For our purposes here, I think it is safe to assume that our authors mean to
use wealth in its physical sense of possessions and dollar signs rather than enlightenment in their
novels. Through this work we will examine with evidence why love and money is equitable in
these two novels. We will also show why our protagonists are complete opposites of one another
when talking about their wealth. We will first examine our novels characters and their pursuit of
monetary gain, starting with Moll Flandersand it s protagonist of the same pseudonym. From the
onset of the novelMoll is always lusting after the carefree lifestyle. As a young girl Moll refuses
to work when she is living with her family. At last one of them ask d me what a Gentlewoman

in many students lives. It will test your strengths and weaknesses but it will reveal the type of
individual you are. One idea that I was able to understand better was that it s important to know
what your goals are. Having a goal will not only keep you focused in accomplishing said goal but it
will also be the thing that keeps you moving forward despite the obstacles, that as an incoming
junior, one will encounter throughout the year. Your goals do not have to be specific it can be

Some of the direct consequences for these courts, is that sometimes the goal for certain cases don

courts is that sometimes the cases have to go through certain levels of the courts system and it
takes a long process. The most important courts that should be the most consideration is the
Supreme Court and Courts of Appeals. These courts are also the most effectiveness. These two
conflicting attributes can best be balanced by the levels and how the handle certain cases. They are
both big courts because the Supreme Court is the first level and then the Court of Appeals is the
second level so the of them tie in together of handling big cases. All together the court system is

Sisterhood In Goblin Market By Christina Rossetti And...
Sisterhood happens to be a powerful and moving concept. Several people do not believe that it is
an actual notion due to it rarely being mentioned unlike brotherhood. Men standing as one remains
a more believable idea than women standing as one. The blame for that would be attributable to
society and its sexist views. Males have taken over as the main root for society which has led to
women being degraded more often than not. Society enjoys putting women down for incidents that
they praise men for. In fact, society has taught women to verbally attack other women in matters
that others consider potentially wrong. However, that is not the basis of sisterhood. Sisterhood
exists based on women lifting other women up and essentially being there for one another instead
of oppressing them. Women should not feel beaten down by other women considering they are all
one in the same. The poem GoblinMarket by Christina Rossettiand the film Steel Magnolias
directed by Herbert Ross shows true sisterhood in which women come together and perform
everything they can to assist other struggling women even when the people of society, including
other females, are trying to sever their bonds. In the poem Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti,
there is a definite prominence of women striving to overcome society s norms. Laura and Lizzie,
the two main characters, get ambushed by a group of goblins. These goblins represent society and
how it will try to bring a womandown for any cause. The

Analysis Of Alfred Schutz s The Well Informed Citizen
In the year of a presidential election the media is flooded with an unhealthy amount of news about
almost every facet of the candidate s life. This information is presented in different lights to hungry
audiences, all of those who wish to either see the best or worst of the potential President. Each
individual member of this audience belongs to a different mindset and has their own background
knowledge associated with the news they are consuming. Although people read the news with
different intent and expected gain of knowledge, they all get the same amount of information.
The best way to begin to explain the audience s expectance of the news is to look at the ideas
presented in Alfred Schutz s, The Well Informed Citizen . The man on the street is the general
population who takes in information to stay relevant and maintain a stock of little insights to share
with colleagues. They tend to only read the news article s lead, that first small paragraph that
contains all the important information, they take that information and add it to their conversation
starter list without considering its validity. Alfred Schutz s idea is that, This knowledge in all its
vagueness is still sufficiently precise for the practical purpose at hand. (122). This is not to demean
the man on the street for his lack of comprehensive information, but to point out how one reads into
the newspaper and utilizes that information. The other end of this spectrum is the expert , for this

Legend says that if someone says the name Bloody Mary three times into a mirror, that she will

people would tell this story and through fear, make others believe that it was. Urban legends
such as Bloody Mary date all the back to the 1930 s, around the same time where the book To Kill
A Mockingbird by Harper Lee was set. In the book, the people of Maycomb, Alabama use Boo
Radley, a character in the book who was sentenced to house arrest, as an urban legend. They spread

In today s society, whenever there is something that people do not understand, they create an urban
legend to try and explain it, such as aliens or the Illuminati. Nobody knows if these legends are
true or not but most people believe it because it gives people a sense of fulfillment to have an
explanation for everything. In To Kill A Mockingbird however, everything that could not be
explained was pinned on Boo Radley. The adults in Maycomb County refused to talk about Boo
Radley so the children made up rumors about him. They would say that Boo was about six and a
half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that
s why his hands were bloodstained (Lee 13). The kids became fixated on Boo Radley, mainly
because the adults never spoke about him, so they created all of these rumors about him and
whenever anything crazy happened, it always was somehow connected back to him. At the end of
the book when Scout meets Boo Radley in person, she finds out that none of the rumors she heard
about him were actually true and eventually tells Atticus that Boo was really nice. Atticus replies by
telling her that most people are, Scout, when you finally see them (Lee 376). Even though people
use urban legends to explain things, that does not mean that the legends are necessarily true. If
people actually searched for the truth behind these legends instead of falling back on

The Importance Of Leadership For A Successful Management...
Critically discus the importance of leadership in the successful management of strategic change.
Introduction
Leadership
McShane and Von Glinow, 2010:360 argued that leadership is influencing, motivating, and enabling
others to contribute toward the effectiveness and success of the organizations of which they are
members. It is the dual focused management approach that works towards what is best for
individuals and what is best for the group as a whole simultaneously. According to Kotter he
suggested that leaders establish directions develop strategies influence others to follow energize
people. Effective leadership builds on important underlying competencies such as the Self
Awareness it sees things clearly and strengthen Analysis and problem Evaluation beyond the
immediate and short term .Interpersonal Effectiveness based on listening and communication skills
to increase understanding , motivation and commitment .Personal Conviction concerning
possibilities and objectives with the resilience to overcome setbacks ( Galvas et al 1998). In
addition to setting clear direction, effective leaders develop employee competence by building self
belief and capability; support autonomy encourages employees to take control, build a culture
based on positive relationships .The steps are anchored in meaningful activity and a sense of shared
purpose, managers need to identify the steps that move employees from satisfied to motivated and
then help people become fully engaged.

outstanding universal value for its architecture, town planning, landscape, archaeological remains

Following the inscription of Bath from UNESCO (2009), which is astonishingly, undertaken with

2.2Changes in Local community
2.2.1Overcrowding and local people s life
Poria(2013) claims that some of the currently designated WHS, since they are recognized as part
of heritage, an increase in demand explosion and tourist boost would be happened. Visitors
normally attracted and associated by the iconic words World Heritage Site, and treat this site as a
culturally famous and major significance to world (Tucker, 2010). Therefore, the status of
overcrowding in Bath has drawn people s attention.
In order to balance the distance between the increasing tourism demand and the carrying capacity
in Bath, the living cost in bath has to increase, the local surrounding tends to be crowded. WHS
designation attracts more and more visitors to Bath, at the same time, it is creating troubles for
residents or people who need to living in Bath (Poria,2013).
The increasing popularity pressure could not only make house price, living cost increase, but also
lead to the heavy tourism traffic. As one of the symbols of modern tourists, most joyful travels
possibly rely on cars (Howard, 2003). This change could also be a challenge for Bath tourism,
which is hard to spare enough space for affording the increase parking

How The Growth Of Cities And Scotland Influenced The...
If time travel was possible and one could somehow travel from Scotland nineteenth century to
Scotland twentieth, a dramatic difference would be noticed. In those one hundred years much in
Scotland transformed. This essay shall look at the changes that took place and how the growth of
cities in Scotland influenced the development of social welfare.
During the 1760s Scottish economy started undergoing some important transformations. There was
a shift from agriculture to industry which did not happen overnight and some effects of this were
not seen until sometime later. The change started within the linen industry. Cotton soon started to
take over as it turned out to be more adaptable to the new textile machines that came in to use in the
last 1700s. A number of revolutionary inventions changed how the productions of textile goods
were produced in Scotland. The Spinning Jenny in 1760s allowed steam power to be introduced in
the 1780s to mule spinning. Steam power changed everything about production. At this time the
size of the cities compared to the outer parts such as villages and highlands expanded hugely. The
population in Scotland almost doubled in fifty years from 1.625m in 1801 to 2.896m in 1851, with
this rapid growing happening mostly in the industrial cities. Glasgow s population went from 77,000
to 275.000. Dundee from 26,000 people to 166,000. Even smaller industrial towns were
expanding; Paisley had only 4,000 people during the 1750s and rose to 24,000 in

The Communicative Language Teaching Method
The Communicative Language Teaching method, or CLT, is a product of the theory of
communicated competence in language teaching. Communicative competence focuses on the
ability of learners to comprehend and be comprehensible with a certain degree of fluency. The
advent of communicative competence signaled a change from the prevailing theory of linguistic
competence which focused more on the form and structure of language. However, although CLT
heavily focuses on communication with the belief that the purpose of language is the ability to use
it, it does not do this to the exclusion of the form and function. In CLT, grammar and vocabulary are
learned as a result of the communication rather than through direct instruction. In classroom use
CLT does not have strict methodical guidelines but rather creates a framework for instruction. CLT
is a very learner centered process with heavy student to student interaction and nearly exclusive use
of the target language. Students learn through a variety of social interactions or communication
events created by the teacher to meet real world needs. In CLT the teacher acts as a guide and an
advisor and relies on authentic teaching materials (i.e. newspaper, radio, etc.) over textbooks.
Evaluation of student progress can be for accuracy or fluency. During communication events errors
are allowed but observed and correction is introduced in the class setting, not just to the individual,
at a later time. Improved communicative

Amitav Ghosh the Hungry Tide and the Interesting Narrative...
Both The Hungry Tide and The Interesting Narrative Of Olaudah Equiano are tales of sociological
hardships combined with a life bound to the sea. The ocean plays a significant role in the text
offering disempowerment to some whilst empowering others. In The Interesting Narrative the slave
trade was in full swing and a capitalist attitude heavily dominates the text, whilst in The Hungry
Tidecapitalism plays a smaller role and the humanitarian backdrop of the story is a more central
theme. In this essay I will draw into focus the various ways in which the ocean is represented as
empowering and disempowering to the lives of characters looking at them as they develop through

To attempt to leave the island would likely result in death and the most fearful disempowerment
possible. Hywel Dix argues that with no money, power, or political influence, they are simply
treated as objects to be shunted from one location to another. [9] Dix is here arguing that the
weak become weaker at the hands of a greater force, which is exactly what happens to the
settlers. The ocean is therefore seen as disempowering at the hands of the powerful government
forces. This use of the ocean as a way of the strong disempowering the weak is also seen in The
Interesting Narrative. In the same way the ocean is used to imprison the settler s, the Africans
find themselves similarly imprisoned by it on board their ship. Equiano makes a direct
reference to his ship as being like a prison; I was ready to curse the tide that bore us, the gale that
wafted my prison. [10] The ocean is much like the police controlled perimeter that keeps them
captive with the looming threat of death for those who attempt to escape. Gilbert C. Klingel
supports this notion of the ocean as being like that of a prison; it is a prison without bars or cells,
the only walls are the lines of gleaming surf. [11] Much like the settlers, Equiano is powerless to
resist and is therefore kept captive by the ocean. In exactly the same way

saying they were more accurately known as the downfall of mankind. Either way, flappers had
unique look, characterized by their short dresses, bobbed hair, long necklaces, silk stocking, and
excessiveness in every other aspect of fashion ( The 1920s. gale). Often times, they were even

Rama s Journey In The Story Of The Ramayana
The Ramayana is an ancient Sanskrit epic, it s Hindu scriptures and classical Indian epic poems
that are usually written in the early Indic language of India, that follows Prince Rama s journey
through many obstacles. These barriers that he undertook through that expedition includes Rama
going into the village to kill Titans with his mentor Sage Vasishtha, stringing the bow of Shiva, no
man is able to complete this task, and being ostracized for 14 years and live in the forest with Sita
and his brother Lakshmana, and the most stupendous quest that he accomplished was the one that
he saved Sita. While living in the forest, the beautiful Sita captured the eye of a Demon ruler
Ravana. Ravana abducted Sita and Ramarescued her with the help from the monkey king Sugriva.
Because she was captured for one year and sleeping in another man s house, Rama questions Sita
s purity and faith. To prove her chastity, Sita throws herself on a pyre in sorrow and she is spared
by the god of fire. This proves Sita s purity and after that Rama welcome Sita back on his side.
After all this, I must tell you that it is not customary to admit back to the normal married fold a
woman who has resided all alone in a stranger s house. There can be no question of our living
together again. Rama suddenly said this after he defeated Ravana. (Narayan 257) Why did Sita
have to prove herself but not Rama? Even though he lived without her for a year and traveled
through many villages or towns. Is it because

Analyzing Jarmusch s Dead Man
Jarmusch s Dead Man film is depicted with such peculiarity and at the same tone in a convincing
tone. The transitions to different scenes is accomplished through fading out to black and then
black in making every scene, a sense of extensiveness as though each was a movie on its own just
like a stanza in a poem. The story is portrayed in myriad aspects like drama and action. However,
the elements are incessantly inconspicuous and indescribable. Notably, the comparison of a
character to the famous poet seems like bizarre choice but later it proves the suitability by
conglomerating the movie. Jarmusch gives an apparent dichotomy between civilizations and the

The movie begins as a usual story line depicting a frail western antihero and, then to superlative

Travis Cozart Influence
The influence that the spotlight is on in this essay is not somebody that I have met before, but
someone I ve watched, listened to, heard of for years, and watched grow as I grow, Jacques
Webster Jr, also known as Travis Scott. Travis is a person who has a mind just as wild as mine. He
shows his emotions through musicproducing and mood of instrumentals he creates and shares with
the world. People don t even think of Travis as an artist they think of him as beyond that and on
another level compared to the rest of the music community. I found Travis when I was a freshmen

The advice is to allow the vision statement to direct the realization of change. The technique is to

Consequently, the misuse of the vision declaration is to surrender the direction and focus (Palmer,

The murder of Harry s parents in the opening of the story causes Harry to become an instant infant

Jung
Ellyn Joy V. Pasaporte Carl Jung Until the 1910s, Carl Jung was a follower and close friend of
Freud s. Like Freud, Jung believed that unconscious conflicts are important in shaping personality.
However, he believed the unconscious has two layers: the personal unconscious, which resembled
Freud s idea, and the collective unconscious, which contains universal memories of the common
human past. Jung called these common memories archetypes. Archetypes are images or thoughts
that have the same meaning for all human beings. Jung said that archetypes exist in dreams as well
as in art, literature, and religion across cultures. According to Jung, the ego represents the conscious

Jung called this one of the irrationalfunctions, meaning that it involved perception rather than
judging of information. The second is thinking. Thinking means evaluating information or ideas
rationally, logically. Jung called this a rational function, meaning that it involves decision making or
judging, rather than simple intake of information. The third is intuiting. Intuiting is a kind of
perception that works outside of the usual conscious processes. It is irrational or perceptual, like
sensing, but comes from the complex integration of large amounts of information, rather than
simple seeing or hearing. Jung said it was like seeing around corners. The fourth is feeling.
Feeling, like thinking, is a matter of evaluating information, this time by weighing one s overall,
emotional response. Jung calls it rational, obviously not in the usual sense of the word. On the one
hand, Jung is still attached to his Freudian roots. He emphasizes the unconscious even more than
Freudians do. In fact, he might be seen as the logical extension of Freud s tendency to put the
causes of things into the past. Freud, too, talked about myths Oedipus, for example and how they
impact on the modern psyche. On the other hand, Jung has a lot in common with the neo Freudians,
humanists, and existentialists. He believes that we are meant to progress, to move in a positive
direction, and not just to adapt, as the Freudians and behaviorists would have it. His idea of

Should Gun Control Be Banned
Gun Control Essay
Gun control is a very hot and controversial topic in the U.S that has been around for years. Some of
the population thinks that it shouldn t be a thing, while the other half strongly disagrees. However,
gun control is essential to a progressive and peaceful country. Adults and gunowners should take
stricter actions to ban high capacity and automatic rifles, support common sense gun control
(such as background checks and making sure the mentally ill don t obtain them), and make sure
civilians (including hunters) don t own military grade firearms. High capacity rifles should be
banned because they were originally designed as a weapon of war to kill a lot of people in a short
period of time. These kinds of guns allow shooters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A background check is the process of looking up and compiling criminal, financial, and
commercial records of an individual or an organization; they are used to keep child predators
away from schools and criminals out of government level jobs, so why wouldn t they be used to
keep guns out of convicts hands? Senators Rand Paul, Mike Lee, and Ted Cruz called this
sensible policy an invasion of privacy , infringement on the American people s constitutional
right to bear arms , and an easy way for bad people to steal these gun owners personal information
. Not only is this argument wrong, it s a loophole for many felons to get away with illegal
crimes. Without them, up to 40% of all gun sales are undocumented private party sales that do not
require a background check. Additionally, 90% of adults approve of laws to prevent the mentally
ill from purchasing a gun. Most of the time these people are in need of special care and have no
business owning a gun. They are a danger to themselves and lack the judgement to determine what
is right and wrong. Common sense gun control laws would protect us all from thoughtless and
harmful criminals from killing people and committing illegal crimes. They would also protect us
from meaningless and senseless people from injuring

Due to his unforeseen spiritual movement, Waco Texas in 1993 experienced a 51 day biblical event like never before seen or experienced since the first coming of Christ. The Branch Davidians along with the infamous David Koreshcame to be because of Houteff sharing his Divergent Views with other church members (CRI). It was five years after he was ostracized from the church that Houteff along with twelve others who believed that the Holy Ghost proclaimed him to be the Lamb of God, went to Mt. Carmel Texas. Their purpose was to have a location in which 144,000 could gather in order to fulfill requirements... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On that day in April a man by the name of Benjamin Roden came to Mt. Carmel. The believers left at the compound learned that Roden was the one sent by God to deliver the message of the fifth angel spoken of in the Book of Revelation (CRI) Upon the death of Roden in 1978, the Branch Davidians were once again led by the wife of the man sent by God. Roden s Wife passed away in 1986 and the reins were passed on to George Roden the son the messenger and because he was the son of the messengers it was believed by the Followers that he too was a messenger sent by God. According to George he had inherited, what he called the divine seal and crown (CRI). In 1981, Vernon Howell came to be known as the infamous David Koresh came to Mt. Carmel after being ostracized from a Tyler Texas Church (CRI). A few years after his arrival trouble started brewing between Koresh and Roden. Koresh and his followers went to kill Roden in 1987 yet failed. Rodan and Koresh challenged one another to resurrect a dead body, Roden was the successful one. However, the court system in Texas determined that Rodan was not victorious in the way that they determined him guilty for exhuming a dead body (CRI). David Koresh began teaching and instruction those believers that were left at Mt. Carmel. His followers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Michel Rolle Research Paper Michel Rolle Michel Rolle was born on April 21, 1652, into a struggling family in Ambert, Basse Auvergne (a province in France at the time). Rolle s father was a lowly shopkeeper and couldn t support his family by himself. For this reason, Rolle left his educational aspirations shortly after elementary school and began to help support his family. He began working as a transcriber for a notary and then worked as an assistant to several attorneys in the district around his home town. He did this while self educating himself in order to work towards a better life for himself and his family. Rolle moved to Paris in 1675 and worked as a scribe and arithmetical expert, which led to Rolle teaching himself higher level mathematics. Rolle wasted no time in starting a family and ended up getting married and having kids shortly after moving to Paris (couldn t... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He solved it without breaking a sweat and was rewarded for it by Jean Baptiste Colbert, the controller general of finance and secretary of state for the navy under King Louis XIV of France, who arranged a pension for Rolle. Even after the stroke of good fortune for Rolle, he was still in dire need for a stable job to support his growing family. Shortly after, he accepted a job requiring him to tutor FranГ§ois Michel le Tellier s, the French Secretary of State for War, fourth son. Rolle went above and beyond in this job and resulted in him being offered an administrative post in the Ministry of War, but Rolle disliked the work and soon resigned. In 1685, Rolle was elected to the AcadГ©mie Royale des Sciences and the impressive mathematical work he produced following his election led him to be a renowned figure in the succeeding ... • 4. Treasury Bonds And The National Debt Daniel Hysinger US Treasury Bonds and the National Debt The U.S. Treasury bond is a low interest way for the government to borrow money. The bond, along with Treasury notes and bills, form the Securities which the Federal government borrows from lenders for a set amount of time. Issued by the Department of the Public Debt, a subset of the US Treasury, they are usually issued in 30 year maturities which pay interest twice yearly. Because the debt obligation is backed by the tax generating, money printing, and understandably trusted government of the United States, bonds are generally considered to be a safe or virtually no risk investment. Thanks to this low risk attribute however, bonds are regarded as very low yield security, which is exactly why it is a good instrument for the United States government to employ, as long as it can turn a relatively decent profit on the initial investment. According to the September 30th, 2014 report of Monthly Statement of the Public Debt of the United States, the amount of Treasury Bonds outstanding totaled $8,167,759 million, I ll call it roughly $8.2 trillion. This number composes the majority of the combined $12.7 trillion of US Treasury securities outstanding. These securities outstanding are also known as the national debt. The numbers listed above, and throughout this paper will disregard debt being owed to intra governmental holdings of the US, as bonds make up a minuscule (in comparison, only $7.6 million) fraction of what they ... • 5. Gillette Case On October 1, 2005, P G acquisition of The Gillette Company. Under the purchase agreement, the total purchase was approximately $53.4 billion including common stock, the fair value of vested stock options and acquisition costs. The Gillette oral care, batteries and personal care businesses were subsumed within the Health Care, Fabric Care and Home Care, and Beauty reportable segments, respectively. The deal is a bold move by P G Chief Executive A.G. Lafley, who has led the company out of dark times in the past. Moving too fast on a restructuring plan implemented by former CEO Jager, the company posted several disappointing quarters and its stock lost more than half its value in 2000. The merger, would create a larger company with revenues of more than $60 billion that would have even greater clout against mass market retailers like Wal Mart, which have been pressuring consumer product suppliers to keep costs low. Lafley was optimistic that the company would not be forced to divest many properties as part of an antitrust review. Strengths Lafley, and later Taylor, began recalibrating the company s strategy in China. P G had entered early, in 1988. But it underestimated the growth of Chinas upper class, focusing instead on the lower to middle class market. Its diapers, for example, proved vulnerable to higher end offerings from Japanese competitors; P Gs market share has fallen nearly five percentage points since 2010, to 37%, according to Euromonitor Citi Research. Explained Taylor at a recent conference: we looked at it too much like a developing market as opposed to the most discerning customers in the world is now trying to move upmarket in China. P G has also shifted more resources back to North America, where it has a more dominant share. And it has become leaner and less bureaucratic, in part through huge job cuts 35,000 by the end of 2016. P G has slashed product categories from 15 to 10 to improve focus. Says Jon Moeller, its longtime CFO: the businesses we are keeping are those where we have a product technology that makes a consumer difference and, almost to a one, daily use items. Weaknesses CEO succession is a complex, often messy endeavor. Just ask the board at Disney, which has struggled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Brazil World Trade Essay Brazil World Trade From the 1500 s to the 1930 s the Brazilian economy relied on the production of primary products for exports. For three centuries Brazil s economy was heavily curbed because since Portugal discovered Brazil, they subjected it s economy to an imperial mercantile policy or a strictly enforced colonial pact. Even though Brazil received its independence in 1822, Portugal s phase of decisions left a lasting, powerful imprint on Brazil s economy and society. In the late eighteenth century, when wage labor was adopted and slavery was eliminated considerable changes finally began to occur. Only starting in the 1930 s were the first steps taken to convert key structural changes by changing Brazil into a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By the early 1990s, Brazil was producing about 1 million motor vehicles annually and about 32,000 units of motor driven farming machines. It also was consistently producing 1.8 million tons of fertilizers, 4.7 million tons of cardboard and paper, 20 million tons of steel, 26 million tons of cement, 3.5 million television sets, and 3 million refrigerators. In addition, about 70 million cubic meters of petroleum were being developed yearly into fuels, lubricants, propane gas, and a wide range of petrochemicals. Furthermore, Brazil contains 161,500 kilometers of paved roads and more than 63 million megawatts of installed electric power capacity. Despite the respectable figures, the economy is not considered developed. Although the economic changes since 1947 increased the countries per capita income above US$2,000 in 1980, per capita income in 1995 was still only US$4,630. Structural change and growth have not distorted drastically Brazil s awfully unequal distribution of opportunity, wealth and income. Even with striking increments in economic growth and output, the number of poor has increased sharply. The rural area of Brazil s Northeast Region, or in the country s large cities or metropolitan areas is where the greatest concentration of the poor reside. • 7. What Is The Theme Of The Book Thief The Book Thief , by Markus Zusak, is a beautiful and astounding novel that brings together the themes of love and mortality through war and suffering. I had been completely moved by Liesel Meminger s, the protagonist s, coming of age story and unable to put the book down once I began to read. The story is set in 1939, Nazi Germany; begins shortly before the First World War. Liesel Meminger, a 9 year old foster child, lives with Hans and Rosa Hubermann in the small town of Molching. Throughout the story, she becomes literate under the guidance of Hans, befriends a neighbourhood boy Rudy Steiner and also assists Hans in hiding his Jewish friend, Max Vandenberg, in their basement from the Jewish genocide. As the story progresses, Liesel begins to lose hope and happiness because all her friends have left her. Hans had been drafted into the military, Rudy had been recruited to a special athletics school by the Nazis and Max sent to a concentration camp in Dachau. She also grew hatred for Adolf Hitler as she believed that his propaganda was to blame for the Holocaust and many innocent deaths including her biological family. It is Ilsa Hermann, the mayor s wife, who invites Liesel to read in her library and continue to learn to read and write. Given a blank book from Ilsa, she begins to write a biography of her life with the Hubermann s in her basement named The Book Thief . During the process, Liesel survived a bombing attack that killed all her loved ones. Despite the trauma of deaths, Liesel lived a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. Operant Conditioning by B. F Skinner Introduction People do on a day to day basis, many actions without realizing it, and most of the time, they don t know why they do them. Certain reinforcements, some positive, and some negative have conditioned their actions and thoughts. In this essay, I chose Burrhus Frederic Skinner who came up with the theory of operant conditioning. B. F. skinner,(March 20, 1904 August 18, 1990) is an American psychologist who believed that we do have such a thing as a mind, but that it is simply more productive to study observable behavior rather than internal mental events. As Skinner s theory was based on the earlier work of Thorndike, he also believed that the best way to understand a behavior is to look at the causes of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example he studies the behavior of rats under carefully controlled laboratory conditions. Skinner Box Skinner illustrated positive reinforcement by placing a hungry rat in his Skinner box (Appendix 2). The box contained a lever in the side and as the rat moved about the box it would accidentally knock the lever. As the lever move, a food pellet would drop into a container next to the lever. The rats quickly learned to go straight to the lever after a few times of being put in the box. The consequence of receiving food if they pressed the lever ensured that they would repeat the action again and again. Skinner illustrated negative reinforcement by placing a rat in his Skinner box and then subjecting it to an unpleasant electric current which caused it some discomfort. As the rat moved about the box it would accidentally knock into the lever. Immediately as it did so, the electric current would be switched off. The rats quickly learned to go straight to the lever after a few times of being put in the box. The consequence of escaping the electric current ensured that they would repeat the action again and again. Human and animals are not alike Based on the Skinner box, we are able to conclude that Skinner actually conducts and derived his theories from rats and other animals such as pigeon. The experiment on pigeon was referred to as the Superstition in Pigeon in which a pigeon was kept in a cage and at regular ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Richard Serr Art And Visual Experience Richard Serra Richard Serra was born in 1938 in San Francisco, California. He studied at the University of California and at Yale University as well. He is one of the well known American artists and sculptors of the Post Abstract Expressionist period. His work has played a major role in advancing the tradition of modern abstract sculpture. His work has been able to draw a new perspective to sculpture by viewers in physical and visual experience. Richard Serrawas involved in the process Art movement and currently works in Tribeca, New York and on Cape Breton Island in Novia Scotia. I believe the background of the artist has a great contribution to the works he has created. Living and working the New York could have been the main factor to why Richard Serra has made these tall structures that kind of represent walls or towers. It may depict how the city of New York is seen to be portrayed as. Many different kind of buildings and sort of an industrial looking area with many structures and buildings surrounding the millions of people that walk through it every single day. This may have been why he had decided to create his sculptures for people to walk through and around them to see what he is trying to portray. Richard Serra made his first sculpture out of materials such as fiberglass, rubber, and molten lead. Around 1970s, Serra had shifted his normal activities and stated to work on large scale site specific sculptures. He creates these sculptures that are a lot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Essay on Plato on the Existence of Negative Forms Plato on the Existence of Negative Forms The question of the origin and nature of evil in the world has preoccupied philosophers throughout history. The ancient philosopher Plato does not directly address this question in his writings, but it can be argued that the logic of his theory of forms demands the existence of forms that are negative in meaning, such as the evil and the bad. When discussing his theory of imitation, Plato alludes to the principle that whenever there are many things of the same nature, there is one form for that nature. In several passages, Plato makes mention of many negative things. It can be debated, however, whether or not the negative has a positive ontological character of its own for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He writes: Now, the god either because he didn?t want to or because it was not necessary for him to do so, didn?t make more than one bed in nature, but only one, the very one that is the being of a bed. Two or more of these have not been made by the god and never will be. Why is that? Because, if he made only two, then again one would come to light whose form they in turn would both possess, and that would be the one that is the being of a bed and not the other two.[2] Plato is saying that there is only one form for the many because there is a single nature that is recognized as unifying each of the many. It is this nature that imitates the form and since the nature is one, there can only be one form. There are several points in the Republic where Plato alludes to many instances of a negative quality, so it can be argued that, according to Plato?s system, there must be one negative form. For the purpose of analyzing Aristotle?s criticism of Plato, David Ross outlines three distinct respects in which a term can be considered negative.[3] The first category of negative terms that Ross identifies are those which are ?purely negative in their meaning? such as the ?not good? or ?not beautiful.? What the many not good have in common is the absence of being good. The second class of negative terms in Ross?s division encompasses terms that are positive in the sense that they express a quality ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Time Machine Fear H. G. Wells novella The Time Machine is a story about the price for a life of luxury. Through his writing, he warns society of what could happen if they continued the path they were on. Arriving in the future, thanks to the time machine that Wells created, readers observe a world where society has split into two species. In Victorian England, there was a fear residing in the upper classthat the working class would engage in an uprising and throw them from power. This brought the desire for security, which is what the Eloi hold in the year 802,701. Degeneration occurs when people live in a society that requires little work and there is dependency on others for food, shelter, and clothing. No physical labour means extinction of the survival... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These include poor air and water quality and the cramped conditions of working class areas of cities; poor diet; and the use of narcotics such as alcohol, tobacco, or opium (Vorachek 200). Wells used these environmental factors when creating the living space of the Morlocks. They lived underground in dark tunnels which the Time Traveller described as very stuffy and oppressive, and the faint halitus of freshly shed blood was in the air (Wells 54). The cannibalism of the Morlocks also played on another fear of society in the fin de siГЁcle. Since there was a fear of the working class causing the degeneration of society, the cannibalistic activities can be seen as representing the imminent proletarian revolution feared by some following the growth of militant trade unionism and working class political organisation (Partington 59). The Time Traveller addressed this fear and how the upper class seemed to have combated it. He stated The too perfect security of the Upperworlders had led them to a slow movement of degeneration, to a general dwindling in size, strength and intelligence (Wells 49). The positions that run a higher risk of being injured would be the running backs and linebackers. Football is the number one leading cause of sports related injuries. That commonality is the pursuit of wealth, but at the same time it is also a discrepancy, which is shown through how the story s title characters set out to obtain it, and their views regarding it. Before we can divulge what our characters view wealth as, we must grasp an understanding of the term itself. Merriam Webster s dictionary defines wealth as the value of all the property, possessions, and money that someone or something has. (Merriam Webster) Wealth can also be perceived in a spiritual sense, were one is content with their life and often has a strong relationship with God. For our purposes here, I think it is safe to assume that our authors mean to use wealth in its physical sense of possessions and dollar signs rather than enlightenment in their novels. Through this work we will examine with evidence why love and money is equitable in these two novels. We will also show why our protagonists are complete opposites of one another when talking about their wealth. • 27. Sisterhood In Goblin Market By Christina Rossetti And... Sisterhood happens to be a powerful and moving concept. Several people do not believe that it is an actual notion due to it rarely being mentioned unlike brotherhood. Men standing as one remains a more believable idea than women standing as one. The blame for that would be attributable to society and its sexist views. Males have taken over as the main root for society which has led to women being degraded more often than not. Society enjoys putting women down for incidents that they praise men for. In fact, society has taught women to verbally attack other women in matters that others consider potentially wrong. However, that is not the basis of sisterhood. Sisterhood exists based on women lifting other women up and essentially being there for one another instead of oppressing them. Women should not feel beaten down by other women considering they are all one in the same. The poem GoblinMarket by Christina Rossettiand the film Steel Magnolias directed by Herbert Ross shows true sisterhood in which women come together and perform everything they can to assist other struggling women even when the people of society, including other females, are trying to sever their bonds. To Kill A Mockingbird Urban Legends Urban Legends Legend says that if someone says the name Bloody Mary three times into a mirror, that she will magically appear in the room and scratch their face off. Of course this legend is not true, but people would tell this story and through fear, make others believe that it was. Urban legends such as Bloody Mary date all the back to the 1930 s, around the same time where the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee was set. In the book, the people of Maycomb, Alabama use Boo Radley, a character in the book who was sentenced to house arrest, as an urban legend. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In today s society, whenever there is something that people do not understand, they create an urban legend to try and explain it, such as aliens or the Illuminati. Nobody knows if these legends are true or not but most people believe it because it gives people a sense of fulfillment to have an explanation for everything. In To Kill A Mockingbird however, everything that could not be explained was pinned on Boo Radley. The adults in Maycomb County refused to talk about Boo Radley so the children made up rumors about him. They would say that Boo was about six and a half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that s why his hands were bloodstained (Lee 13). The kids became fixated on Boo Radley, mainly because the adults never spoke about him, so they created all of these rumors about him and whenever anything crazy happened, it always was somehow connected back to him. At the end of the book when Scout meets Boo Radley in person, she finds out that none of the rumors she heard about him were actually true and eventually tells Atticus that Boo was really nice. Atticus replies by telling her that most people are, Scout, when you finally see them (Lee 376). Even though people use urban legends to explain things, that does not mean that the legends are necessarily true. If time travel was possible and one could somehow travel from Scotland nineteenth century to Scotland twentieth, a dramatic difference would be noticed. In those one hundred years much in Scotland transformed. This essay shall look at the changes that took place and how the growth of cities in Scotland influenced the development of social welfare. During the 1760s Scottish economy started undergoing some important transformations. There was a shift from agriculture to industry which did not happen overnight and some effects of this were not seen until sometime later. The change started within the linen industry. Cotton soon started to take over as it turned out to be more adaptable to the new textile machines that came in to use in the last 1700s. A number of revolutionary inventions changed how the productions of textile goods were produced in Scotland. The Spinning Jenny in 1760s allowed steam power to be introduced in the 1780s to mule spinning. Steam power changed everything about production. At this time the size of the cities compared to the outer parts such as villages and highlands expanded hugely. The population in Scotland almost doubled in fifty years from 1.625m in 1801 to 2.896m in 1851, with this rapid growing happening mostly in the industrial cities. Glasgow s population went from 77,000 to 275.000. Dundee from 26,000 people to 166,000. • 40. The Communicative Language Teaching Method The Communicative Language Teaching method, or CLT, is a product of the theory of communicated competence in language teaching. Communicative competence focuses on the ability of learners to comprehend and be comprehensible with a certain degree of fluency. The advent of communicative competence signaled a change from the prevailing theory of linguistic competence which focused more on the form and structure of language. However, although CLT heavily focuses on communication with the belief that the purpose of language is the ability to use it, it does not do this to the exclusion of the form and function. In CLT, grammar and vocabulary are learned as a result of the communication rather than through direct instruction. In classroom use CLT does not have strict methodical guidelines but rather creates a framework for instruction. CLT is a very learner centered process with heavy student to student interaction and nearly exclusive use of the target language. Students learn through a variety of social interactions or communication events created by the teacher to meet real world needs. In CLT the teacher acts as a guide and an advisor and relies on authentic teaching materials (i.e. newspaper, radio, etc.) over textbooks. Evaluation of student progress can be for accuracy or fluency. During communication events errors are allowed but observed and correction is introduced in the class setting, not just to the individual, at a later time. Improved communicative ... Both The Hungry Tide and The Interesting Narrative Of Olaudah Equiano are tales of sociological hardships combined with a life bound to the sea. The ocean plays a significant role in the text offering disempowerment to some whilst empowering others. In The Interesting Narrative the slave trade was in full swing and a capitalist attitude heavily dominates the text, whilst in The Hungry Tidecapitalism plays a smaller role and the humanitarian backdrop of the story is a more central theme. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To attempt to leave the island would likely result in death and the most fearful disempowerment possible. Hywel Dix argues that with no money, power, or political influence, they are simply treated as objects to be shunted from one location to another. [9] Dix is here arguing that the weak become weaker at the hands of a greater force, which is exactly what happens to the settlers. The ocean is therefore seen as disempowering at the hands of the powerful government forces. This use of the ocean as a way of the strong disempowering the weak is also seen in The Interesting Narrative. In the same way the ocean is used to imprison the settler s, the Africans find themselves similarly imprisoned by it on board their ship. Equiano makes a direct reference to his ship as being like a prison; I was ready to curse the tide that bore us, the gale that wafted my prison. [10] The ocean is much like the police controlled perimeter that keeps them captive with the looming threat of death for those who attempt to escape. Gilbert C. Klingel supports this notion of the ocean as being like that of a prison; it is a prison without bars or cells, the only walls are the lines of gleaming surf. Intuiting is a kind of perception that works outside of the usual conscious processes. They are a danger to themselves and lack the judgement to determine what is right and wrong. Common sense gun control laws would protect us all from thoughtless and harmful criminals from killing people and committing illegal crimes.
