The Philippine flag has undergone several changes throughout history. It was first designed by Emilio Aguinaldo and others during their exile in Hong Kong. The flag, known as "The Sun and the Stars", featured a white triangle, blue and red stripes, a sun with eight rays, and three stars. This flag was first flown on June 12, 1898 and served as the national flag until 1901. Debate continues around the exact shade of blue used on different historical versions of the flag. The current flag design was established by law in 1998 and features a royal blue color.
