Define your audience by their demographics
For our audience, we chose the specific demographic to be for a males between 16 - 24. We chose this age range and
gender because within the music videos we have studies and the bands we have looked at these are the specifications.
This allows us to work to the same style as them and incorporate their styles in our own work effectively for our target
audience. Our target audience tend to be more connected with feelings and their emotions as they are still quite young,
and so the lyrics of the song will resonate most with this audience. We did not specifically aim towards any social class or
group and the products represent this by being fairly simple and generic in some aspects such as colour scheme, lyrics and
visuals. This also allowed us to cater to specific likes and dislikes from our target audience such as connected, meaningful
lyrics as a positive and keeping our music video simplistic and linear. We also made sure to stay away from anything
controversial or disrespectful in anyway and keep the products relating to the theme and genre. For our subculture, we
chose indie rock. Given this genre is gaining more popularity, it is harder to define specifically who would listen to the
music in the genre however we thought it would mostly be students or teens around this age. This followed simplistic
themes, often shown as low budget and juxtaposed to traditional pop. We followed this theme by using isolated, low
budget locations as this allowed the audience to also focus more on the performance rather than having excessive visuals
to keep audience interest. The subculture also focuses on having more relatable performers and we showed this through
the costume choices and the age of the performers. Finally, we used props such as the guitar and the drums to further
show that idea of a low budget production. The use of having the band members also perform with the instruments
further emphasises the simplicity of the music video towards our target audience. Target audience is important to media
industries as it makes it easier for the band to conform to a specific group and therefore specifically tailor their image and
brand identity towards that. This helps media industries because then allows them to widen the range in audience reach.
Evaluate your methods of gathering
feedback
Audience feedback is a key part to any media industry as it allows them to gather information on
their products from their primary users. It shows industries how their product is being perceived
and weather or not it is being portrayed as they want it too. Audience feedback allows the media
industries to tailor their products to fit the desired specifications and also gives audiences a voice to
share their feedback. The feedback from audiences can be collected in various ways over different
media. As social media is gaining popularity day by day, more industries are using online surveys and
polls to gain audience feedback and engage with the company's. Media industries use polls and quick
surveys on platforms like Twitter and Facebook as this is an easy way for people to quickly leave
feedback without going to much hassle. Industries will also add a sponsor to their content which let
their accounts reach people at the very top of their feed although they have to pay for this. Another
audience feedback method are real life surveys where people will try and stop passers by and ask for
their feedback on a product. These may be filmed and uploaded to sites such as YouTube where
audiences are encouraged to leave feedback in comment sections underneath their video. These can
include general thoughts as well as specific answers asked within the videos. YouTube also has a
trending page which lets videos reach even more people through shares or again, being sponsored.
Audience feedback that you’ve
collected at different stages of
production
When collecting our audience feedback, we used a few different methods. We
used peer feedback over 3 different stages. One for the first draft, one for the
second draft and one for the final products. We used this feedback to further
our products and make changes based specifically from what our peers have
said as they are within our target audience. We also used online
questionnaires and collected them into pie charts to show this. We used these
pie charts to create a simplistic overview of how our products were appealing
to our audience and how they were viewed.
Pie chart feedback
Through online surveys, we accumulated information on our products and put them into pie
charts. This was an easier way of viewing our results and made it easier for us to change our
products accordingly.
Peer feedback
We gained physical feedback from our first and second draft which let us work on our products and change
them accordingly to match what he had been told could be changed. This included feedback such as to re-shoot
locations, work on typography, add more images and change shot length/type throughout the video. We then
worked on these and edited our products so that they were the best they could be for the final product.
Conclusion
To conclude, we used audience feedback effectively to edit our products and
make them suitable for our audience as we progressed through. We learned
that we had to make sure our products all linked together effectively and
worked well together as a whole. Overall, our products were received well
with only small details being suggested to change. This was positive to us
throughout as we knew we were working towards the right goal and knew
better what we had to change to make it more appealing to everyone. The
feedback also helped us learn in general that it is important to keep in
contact with audiences and without this feedback, our products would not
have been as successful and we would have been working towards our own
interests rather than the audience interests.

  • 1. Evaluation Question 3 - What have you learned from you audience feedback By Matt Eden
  • 2. Define your audience by their demographics For our audience, we chose the specific demographic to be for a males between 16 - 24. We chose this age range and gender because within the music videos we have studies and the bands we have looked at these are the specifications. This allows us to work to the same style as them and incorporate their styles in our own work effectively for our target audience. Our target audience tend to be more connected with feelings and their emotions as they are still quite young, and so the lyrics of the song will resonate most with this audience. We did not specifically aim towards any social class or group and the products represent this by being fairly simple and generic in some aspects such as colour scheme, lyrics and visuals. This also allowed us to cater to specific likes and dislikes from our target audience such as connected, meaningful lyrics as a positive and keeping our music video simplistic and linear. We also made sure to stay away from anything controversial or disrespectful in anyway and keep the products relating to the theme and genre. For our subculture, we chose indie rock. Given this genre is gaining more popularity, it is harder to define specifically who would listen to the music in the genre however we thought it would mostly be students or teens around this age. This followed simplistic themes, often shown as low budget and juxtaposed to traditional pop. We followed this theme by using isolated, low budget locations as this allowed the audience to also focus more on the performance rather than having excessive visuals to keep audience interest. The subculture also focuses on having more relatable performers and we showed this through the costume choices and the age of the performers. Finally, we used props such as the guitar and the drums to further show that idea of a low budget production. The use of having the band members also perform with the instruments further emphasises the simplicity of the music video towards our target audience. Target audience is important to media industries as it makes it easier for the band to conform to a specific group and therefore specifically tailor their image and brand identity towards that. This helps media industries because then allows them to widen the range in audience reach.
  • 3. Evaluate your methods of gathering feedback Audience feedback is a key part to any media industry as it allows them to gather information on their products from their primary users. It shows industries how their product is being perceived and weather or not it is being portrayed as they want it too. Audience feedback allows the media industries to tailor their products to fit the desired specifications and also gives audiences a voice to share their feedback. The feedback from audiences can be collected in various ways over different media. As social media is gaining popularity day by day, more industries are using online surveys and polls to gain audience feedback and engage with the company's. Media industries use polls and quick surveys on platforms like Twitter and Facebook as this is an easy way for people to quickly leave feedback without going to much hassle. Industries will also add a sponsor to their content which let their accounts reach people at the very top of their feed although they have to pay for this. Another audience feedback method are real life surveys where people will try and stop passers by and ask for their feedback on a product. These may be filmed and uploaded to sites such as YouTube where audiences are encouraged to leave feedback in comment sections underneath their video. These can include general thoughts as well as specific answers asked within the videos. YouTube also has a trending page which lets videos reach even more people through shares or again, being sponsored.
  • 4. Audience feedback that you’ve collected at different stages of production When collecting our audience feedback, we used a few different methods. We used peer feedback over 3 different stages. One for the first draft, one for the second draft and one for the final products. We used this feedback to further our products and make changes based specifically from what our peers have said as they are within our target audience. We also used online questionnaires and collected them into pie charts to show this. We used these pie charts to create a simplistic overview of how our products were appealing to our audience and how they were viewed.
  • 5. Pie chart feedback Through online surveys, we accumulated information on our products and put them into pie charts. This was an easier way of viewing our results and made it easier for us to change our products accordingly.
  • 6. Peer feedback We gained physical feedback from our first and second draft which let us work on our products and change them accordingly to match what he had been told could be changed. This included feedback such as to re-shoot locations, work on typography, add more images and change shot length/type throughout the video. We then worked on these and edited our products so that they were the best they could be for the final product.
  • 7. Conclusion To conclude, we used audience feedback effectively to edit our products and make them suitable for our audience as we progressed through. We learned that we had to make sure our products all linked together effectively and worked well together as a whole. Overall, our products were received well with only small details being suggested to change. This was positive to us throughout as we knew we were working towards the right goal and knew better what we had to change to make it more appealing to everyone. The feedback also helped us learn in general that it is important to keep in contact with audiences and without this feedback, our products would not have been as successful and we would have been working towards our own interests rather than the audience interests.
