Evaluation Question 3-what have you learned from your audience
feedback?
Throughoutcompletionof the courseworkwe reliedonaudience feedbacktohelpbetterimprove
our texts.Thiswasessential asitensure we alwaysappealedtothe targetaudience ratherthanour
owndesires. Theymostlyoutlinedlikesanddislikes,whichenabledustosee where the otherartists
wentwrong.
Thisstartedwiththe Target Audience feedback, afterresearchingourtargetaudience we then
venturedoutandinterviewedmembersof thisdemographictofindoutwhat theyliked,dislikedand
whattheywouldlike tochange. We filmedthisaswell asmade notestoensure we couldlookback
on these duringfilmingandpost-productiontoensure we alwaysaimedtoachieve audience
gratification. We askedquestionsaboutwhatformattheymostlywatchmusicvideos,thiswould
enable ustotarget the advertisingtothe specificformat. All of themsaidYouTube asitwasthe
easiestformatastheycan watch it onmultiple devicesandhasthe greatestchoice of musicvideos.
We alsoaskedwhichvisualstheyliketosee inthe musicvideo, thiswouldensure we usedsimilar
techniquestoattractthe targetaudience.Mostof revolvedaroundsmoothtransitionsorlongshots
thismeantwe neededtoinclude themwithinourmusicvideo.We alsoaskedwhytheyconsume
musicvideos,mostof whichsaidforescapismwhichmeanswe needtopresentadifferentlifethat
theycan identifywithbutstilltakesthemawayfromtheirlife.
We presentedourroughdraftto the classalongwiththe rough narrative andconcept, theythen
presentedpossible feedbackthatwe shouldactonand how bestto improve.Theythoughtmade
recommendationsaboutre-arrangingdifferentscenesandhavingastrongernarrative throughout.
We tookthisadvice onboard and createdanotherdraftwiththe changesmade,we feltthisnew
draft wouldbestportrayourstory.
The class alsoreviewedourmusicvideowritingnotesonwhatwe did
well,butmostimportantlythe thingstheywouldliketosee changed. It’s
essential thatwe followedthe advice asthisensure we remainfocusedon
creatinga musicvideothatattracts our target audience,butbestconnotes
the themesof the lyrics. The image onthe leftshowsmyfellowpupils
watchingour videoandrecordingnotesSome positivecommentswere;
 Our diegeticsoundwas goodaswe usedthe church bellsandthe birds
 Our iconographywasgood
Thismeantthose areas were ourstrengthsandif possible trytobuildfurtherontothemto create a
bettermusicvideo.However,theydidmake some criticismsandsuggestions;
 transitionsastheywere verysimilar
 narrative needstostart a bitearlier
We usedthose commentstocreate a more interestingstoryanddecidedtocreate amore engaging
seriesof transitionsbasedaroundcaptivatingthe audience. We alsobroughtinthe narrative earlier
overlappingshotsandchangingthe opacity.Thiswouldhelpdraw inthe audience andkeepthem
enticedaboutthe musicvideo.
For the ancillaryfeedbackwe presentedaseriesof drafts, tothe fellow classmatestosee whichthey
wouldprefer,whichlinkedandhowwe canimprove them.We placedthesedraftsonanA3 paperan
annotatedaroundthem, showingwhatwe were tryingto create and
symbolise. It was key we did this as it enabled us asses what an
external audience thought and ensured we maintained focussed on
appealing to the target audience rather than our own creativity. The
image onthe leftshowsAdamandIreceiving criticismandpraisefrom
other classmates. We firstly, upon feedback, decided to change to a
single,thisbecause theylikedmanyof the
images from the music video and thought
theywouldlookgoodonthe cover.However,thiswouldnotsuitanalbum
and thus require a single. The next image shows our drafts with peoples
preferred choices marked. People liked the image of Johnny walking and
thoughtthiswouldbe a nice cover,we thendecidedtoinclude thisimage.
People also stated that they liked the image with the cross on the fist.
However, we thought thisdidn’t fit the rest of the music video as we had
to adapt scenes to create an effective music video, this meant we didn’t
include it and used other images instead.
Followingthe renderingof ourvideowe decidedtopresentthistoourfriendsandfamilyfor
feedbackonwhattheythought.Thiswasessential asmostof our familymemberswouldfitinwith
the target audience demographic.Itwaskeythatwe got as much feedbackaspossible toensure the

We decidedthismusicvideowouldn’tbe appropriateon Facebookorothersocial mediaasthis
