What kind of media institution
might distribute your media product
and why?
• Distribution for a movie or film is the promotion and selling of the final media product. This is
done by using a Production Company.
• Because our movie opening scene genre is a thriller, I need to look for a production company
that produces thriller based movies, or similar genres for example mystery, crime and horror.
• I found that ‘Momentum Pictures’ was based suited for the production of our opening scene.
Some of the thriller genre movies they have distributed include Sinister and Safe Haven.
These are well known thriller movies, similar to our movie (genre wise). This would make this
company interested in our media product.
• I believe our media product would mainly be interesting to a UK audience as it is based in the
UK, and isn’t a global issue that people in other countries would be interested in. This is also
another factor that supports using a production company based in London, as our media
product is based near there. However, the story line may appeal to some audiences in
different countries, but wouldn’t be worth the money and time (in real life production) to
get our opening scene dubbed and changed to fit other countries’ languages.
More examples of relevant production companies:
• Alfa films
• Alliance Films
• Golden Village Pictures
• United Cinema
• To help the distribution of our media product, there are possible ways we can promote the
movie.
• This can be done by holding a Premiere viewing of the movie, to make the public more aware
of it. Before doing this, we can release trailers and dates a long time before the actual release
date build up excitement of our audience.
• We could also create a website to represent our movie. This would be a good idea as it can
give our audience information on it, as well as making our movie look more established.
• We can also target social networks to promote our movie, since a lot of people use social
networking. This would include setting up a Facebook page or twitter account for our
product.
