- 2. Answer Acoustic music usually tend to involve a lot of emotion throughout, which is done through the lyrics used in the song and also what is seen in the video. Creating the music video, there were quite a few issues and setbacks. We had minimal time to film due to the availability of the model, and as a result it difficult to take re-shoots of footage to get perfect shots. The music video we have created from the genre theory and mis en scene it is an acoustic genre video. Throughout my music video the costumes worn by the artist and the props used such as a guitar establish an acoustic genre video. Looking at the ideas of theoreticians, specifically at Richard Dyers ‘star’ theory. Throughout the whole music video, the main focus is on the artist, the use of the different ranges of camera shots such as close ups, mid shots, long shots and arc shots of the artist can make the viewers feel good about watching the video and therefore aspire to be like the artist. Graham Burtons theory suggests that throughout one genre there are many codes and conventions. This is done by repeating techniques in which conventions become recognisable to the audience. My music video is very similar to conventions of existing acoustic music videos. For example, we included shots of a performance where the artist is singing and playing the guitar. We also used slowly paced camera movements and editing so that the audience is not distracted by the fast paced shots and instead can understand the meaning of the video, which is an element used often within this music video genre.
- 3. Answer The system of expectation suggests that within a specific genre specific aspects are expected. Within the acoustic genre, it is expected to see a guitar, as a result I included either a guitar or a guitar in a case in every shot during the music video to emphasise the genre. The setting in an acoustic genre video is usually isolated as the artist is expressing emotion, this symbolic code was used throughout my music video, which is shown through the artist walking down an empty road, also when the artist is in a low-key lighting location. This illustrates how lonely and isolated the artist is from society.
