Track choices,
justification and
final track selection
Choice 1 - The Hunna - Bonfire
There are many reasons why our group decided to pick this song, mainly
because we all like this song and we think that the music style suits the
genre very well. The guitar riffs are very clear throughout the song,
meaning that it is very clear and easy to replicate the riffs when we create
our music video and it will be quite easy to mimic the guitar movements
on stage. Also, the style of the music and pace of the song is very fast,
allowing us to edit the video along to the beat of the music and create a
high paced video. I believe that a fast-paced edit is important because it
means the video switches between shots very quickly and helps to
maintain audience interest. I also like the music video for this song
because their is a strong focus on the mise-en-scene, the variety of
different costumes and close-ups on instruments being played conforms
to the indie genre, and i believe that we can create a video with a similar
focus.
Choice 2 - The Courteeners - In Love with a notion
This is another song which the group are fond of, not only because we
like this band in particular, but also because the lyrics for this particular
song can be interpreted in many ways. By finding our own interpretation
of the lyrics, we believe that this song and video can be easily
represented through our own narrative, and we could develop a hybrid
music video which focuses around our own lyrical interpretation. Another
reason why we like this song is that there are not many instruments which
appear in the song, therefore, we would only need a small band to re-
create this music video. For the real music video, there is no real
performance shown, only segments of the video where the band are
singing as the music video is based mainly around the narrative.
Therefore, if we decide to recreate this video, we would want to ensure
that there is more band performance which intertwines with the narrative.
Choice 3 - Foster The People- Lotus eater
Finally, as a group we decided that this would be our third video choice
due to the style of music being quite unique and slightly different to the
other two choices. The real video for this song is just a static image and
audio video as the band have not yet released a video for this song, so
we thought it would be an idea to explore our own interpretation of the
lyrics by creating our own music video for this song. The vocal delivery in
this song are quite different due to the slightly higher pitch of the male
singer, which is quite different and offers a unique song to the audience.
However, the typical indie-rock elements still underline the song, as there
is heavy emphasis on guitar riffs and loud drum beats, which again would
be very easy to replicate if we were to produce a video to go along with
the song.
Final Choice - The Hunna - Bonfire
As a group, we have decided that our favourite song choice and most
suitable song to re-create is “Bonfire” by The Hunna. One of the main
reasons for our song choice is that this song is not very mainstream and
quite unknown, therefore conforming to the indie-rock genre. Because
this is not a mainstream song, it allows us as media creators to have
creative freedom over the production of our video and we are not as
restricted to challenge the genre conventions and express our creative
ideas. Another reason for choosing this song is that all of the group
members are fond of this band and we all like the song. We think that the
pace and rhythm of the song is great for editing, because we can match
the editing pace to the song speed. We also think that the song will be
quite easy to mimic due to the clear musical beats which are heard, and
the use of limited instruments, only guitars and drums are mainly used
throughout the song.
