Our media product uses several conventions of real music videos and album packaging:
1) It begins with a close-up shot of the lead singer, establishing who they are, just like many music videos.
2) It uses long shots and side angles of the band performing, allowing the audience to see the scene and feel part of the performance, just like videos by Arctic Monkeys and Foo Fighters.
3) The band members dress in simple, everyday clothes like typical indie bands to seem authentic and connect with fans.
Welcome to Kensington West
Kensington West is located in Kensington London a short walk from Kensington High Street, where you will find the most exclusive bars and restaurants to meet every need. If that is not enough Kensington High Street is known as "shopping heaven". Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park, Kensington Palace (where Princess Diana resided) are all within easy reach.
We are walking distance from both Olympia (approximately 4-5 minutes) and Earls Court (approximately 15 minutes) exhibition centers. The famous Queen's Tennis Club is within easy reach. For those of you who want a shopping spree, Westfield's shopping centre opened in October 2009 which boasts 265 shops is only about a 15 minute walk away.
So if you are looking for budget London hotels in the Kensington area, Kensington West could be exactly what you are looking for.
1. Q1: In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2. This particular shot used at the very start of our music video is a
typical convention of any music video involving a band, this is
because it instantly enables the audience to establish who the lead
singer is, as well as making a connection with the lead singer,
through research we found this to be a successful convention used
throughout many music particularly in the same genre we had
chosen as you can see our video shot (left) is very similar to that of
the foo fighters ‘best of you’ music video (right)

3. This is another example of a camera angle typically used throughout a performance
music video, longshot. Longshots are found to be a typical convention of any music
video particularly that of a performance kind, it allows the scene the band are playing
in to be set and viewed by the audience as well as allowing the audience to establish
themselves with all members of the band. Arctic Monkeys which are a very successful
indie rock band who inspired us to create an indie rock music video in the first place
are shown to be using this convention in the music video ‘I bet you look good on the
dance floor’ instantly proving this to be a successful convention.

4. The use of our mise-en-scene particularly our outfits followed conventions of the
indie bands greatly for example as you can see all three members especially our
lead singer are dressed in simple everyday clothing (black jeans and a plan white t-
shirt) which we found to be a convention used greatly throughout our chosen
genre, we chose to follow this convention as we felt it would create the
urban/working class feel nearly all indie rock bands do within their music videos, as
they are not trying to dress smart or show off but simply just play real music. This
would allow us to instantly connect with our intended audience therefore making
our final product even more successful.
5. Our music video The Crookes
Extreme close up on the instruments is another
convention we used in creating our music video, especially
when the guitar solo comes as you can see we zoomed
right into Zak playing the guitar, the Crookes also used this
convention proving it to be that of a successful one. This is
because in a typical performance video you need to have
proof that they are actually playing their instruments.
6. This side angle is also another typical camera angle used within a
performance video as it again allows the viewing audience to see
the scene as well as feeling part of the video and that they are
actually there watching the band perform giving it that sense of
realism. The ‘On Air’ sign included in this shot gives it that feel
of a real performing session as ‘On Air’ means recording in
progress.
7. The extreme long shot used to set the scene as well
allow the audience to feel as if they are actually part of
the video or to get that life performance feel is another
conventional camera angle used through indie rock
performance videos, we found this convention when
researching existing music videos and instantly decided it
would be part of our final product.

8. We used the same image from our digipak front cover on our final
poster, we found this to be a typical convention of many digipaks we
researched. We felt that it would be successful as it would allow the
audience to make the connection between the two, also the idea is
very simple but yet effective in promoting our digipak as it only
contains the main image from the front cover, the release date of
the album and the band name but at the same time our intended
audience will also be able to establish that the poster is promoting
our album.
9. The layout of the back cover of our Digipak, is very conventional in terms of the
songs being placed in the middle of the cover, as well as the barcode being placed at
the bottom left as people read from top left to bottom right . Also we included a
record label name as well as our copyright label , these combined make our final
product seem that little bit more authentic.
The house style is also the same all the way throughout our digipak allowing the
audience to instantly recognise it.
