The Title
THE TITLE OF MY MAGAZINE WILL BE ‘ROCK’N’. I
HAVE CHOSEN THIS AS IT INSTANTLY TELLS THE
READER WHAT THE MAGAZINE CONTAINS. FIRSTLY IT
TELLS THE READER THAT THE MAGAZINE IS A ROCK
MAGAZINE, AS IT CLEARLY STATES IN THE TITLE. THE
USE OF THE ‘N GIVES AN OLD FEEL TO THE TITLE. THIS
SHOWS THAT THE MAGAZINE WONT ONLY CONTAIN
RECENT BANDS AND ARTISTS, BUT ALSO OLDER
ARTISTS TO HELP ENCOURAGE AN WIDER TARGET
AUDIENCE. THE FACT THAT THE WORD ‘ROCK’ HAS
BEEN USED IN THE TITLE ALSO HELPS TO REINFORCE
WHAT THE MAGAZINE IS ABOUT AS IT ATTRACTS AN
AUDIENCE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN THE ROCK
GENRE. AS YOU CAN SEE ON THE RIGHT I HAVE
PLACED A SELECTION OF DIFFERENT FONTS FOR MY
TITLE. EACH ONE HAS A DISTINCTIVE ROCK FEEL TO
THEM THAT DEPICTS THE STYLE OF MUSIC AND
WHAT WILL BE IN THE MAGAZINE.
The Genre
FOR MY MAGAZINE I'M USING ROCK AS THE CHOSEN
GENRE. THIS IS SIMPLY DOWN TO THE FACT THAT ROCK
IS MY PREFERRED STYLE OF MUSIC, BUT ALSO MOST OF
MY RESEARCH WAS BASED OFF OF ROCK MAGAZINES.
HOWEVER ROCK IS A DIFFICULT GENRE TO CREATE A
MAGAZINE FOR AS IT’S A VERY COMPETITIVE AND WIDE
MARKET THAT HOLDS A GREAT DEAL OF POPULARITY. I
FOUND THROUGH MY AUDIENCE RESEARCH THAT
SPECIFICALLY INDIE ROCK IS WAS THE MOST POPULAR. I
WILL USE THIS KNOWLEDGE TO TRY AND ATTEMPT TO
INCREASE MY AUDIENCE BY AIMING MY FOCUS
TOWARDS INDIE ROCK. HOWEVER I WILL TO A LOT OF
CONTENT ON OTHER STYLES TO SATISFY OTHER
READERS. DUE TO THE MAGAZINE COVERING A WIDE
RANGE OF STYLES OF ROCK IT WILL APPEAL TO A LOT
MORE PEOPLE, THEREFORE HOPEFULLY COVERING BOTH
HARD AND SOFT STYLES OF ROCK.
The price and publication
MY MAGAZINE WILL BE RELEASED ONCE EVERY MONTH.
DUE TO THIS I WILL BE ABLE TO SPEND A LOT MORE
TIME COLLECTING INFORMATION AND DESIGNING THE
MAGAZINE. THIS WILL CREATE A MAGAZINE THAT
PEOPLE WILL GENUINELY WANT TO READ WITH GOOD,
RELIABLE AND INFORMATIVE SOURCES. AS MY
MAGAZINE IS BEING PUBLISHED EVERY MONTH ILL BE
ABLE TO INCLUDE A LOT MORE CONTENT HOWEVER
THIS WILL ADD TO ITS COST. I DOUBT THIS WILL
PREVENT PEOPLE FROM PURCHASING IT AS THE
PUBLICATION IS SPREAD OUT TO EVERY MONTH. AS THE
MAGAZINE WILL HAVE INCREASED CONTENT AMONG
WITH OTHER FEATURES IT WILL COST £2.99. AS THE
MAGAZINE IS BELOW £3 IT MAKES THE AUDIENCE THINK
THAT ITS CHEAPER, THEREFORE THEY’RE MORE LIKELY
TO BUY THE MAGAZINE. ALSO PEOPLE WILL BE MORE
WILLING TO PAY MONTHLY FOR MORE CONTENT
RATHER THAN WEEKLY WITH A WORSE QUALITY
MAGAZINE. THIS IS SHOWN THROUGH MY ANALYSIS OF
RESULTS AS A HUGE 74% PREFERRED MONTHLY
RELEASES.
Presentation and Attitude
THE ATTITUDE AND PRESENTATION OF THE MAGAZINE WILL BE OVER
EXAGGERATED TO CREATE SOMETHING THAT THE READER WILL REMEMBER AND BE
INTERESTED IN, AND HOPEFULLY READ AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. THE COLOUR
SCHEME OF MY MAGAZINE WILL BE BLACK, GREY AND RED AS THIS WAS SHOWN
TO BE THE MOST POPULAR IN THE ANALYSIS OF RESULTS SECTION AT 73%. THE
COLOUR SCHEME IS ALSO SHOWN TO BE A CRUCIAL PART OF THE MAGAZINES
MAKEUP AS STATED BY 23% OF PEOPLE IN MY ANALYSIS. THE USE OF THIS COLOUR
SCHEME WILL COMPLIMENT THE IMAGES ALLOWING THEM TO STAND OUT MORE
AND ADDING DEFINITION TO IMAGES WHEN NEEDED. THE IMAGES USED IN THE
MAGAZINE WILL ALSO BE BENEFITED BY A REASONABLY NEUTRAL COLOUR SCHEME,
MEANING THEY CAN POP OUT OF THE PAGE AND CATCH THE READERS EYE. THE
WAY IN WHICH THE TEXT IS SHOWN IN THE MAGAZINE FURTHER HELPS TO DRAW
THE READER IN. THIS IS DONE THROUGH THE WAY THE TEXT IS LAID OUT ON THE
PAGE. BY SPREADING TEXT OUT AS SHOWN IN THE IMAGE TO THE RIGHT IT
CREATES A SORT OF GAME FOR THE READER TO WORK OUT THE ORDER OF THE
WORDS. CERTAIN KEY WORDS WILL ALSO BE PUT IN BOLD OR A DIFFERENT COLOUR
TO CATCH THE READERS EYE IF THEY SHOW INTEREST TO IT.
Style
THE STYLE OF THE MAGAZINE WILL HAVE CLEAR VARIATION
AND INDIVIDUALITY, IN AN ATTEMPT TO SET IT APART FROM
OTHER SIMILAR MAGAZINES. THIS WILL NOT ONLY ADD
INTEREST FOR THE READER BUT IT WILL ALSO MAKE IT
VISIBLY MORE APPEALING, IN THAT PEOPLE WANT TO SEE A
LARGE SELECTION OF TOPICS. HAVING VARIETY IN THE
MAGAZINE NOT ONLY WIDENS PEOPLES TASTES AND
INTERESTS BUT ALSO WILL ENCOURAGE THE PUBLIC TO BUY
THE MAGAZINE IN THE FUTURE AS IT WILL HAVE NEW
ELEMENTS EACH WEEK, AND WONT STICK TO THE SAME
OLD TRENDS OF SIMILAR THINGS EACH WEEK. ALSO THE
ADDITION OF FREEBIES, SUCH AS POSTERS, ACCESSORIES
AND CD SINGLES, WILL PROMOTE THE BELIEF THAT YOU'RE
GETTING MORE FOR YOUR MONEY, THEREFORE ADDING TO
THE SELLING POINTS OF THE MAGAZINE. THE LAYOUT OF
THE MAGAZINE WILL INCLUDE SHORT SENTENCES THAT ARE
TO THE POINT TO PREVENT READERS GETTING BORED,
COMBINED WITH LARGE BOLD IMAGES.

MY CONTENTS PAGE WILL HAVE A LOT OF VARIATION KEEPING WITH THE
TREND AND THE VARIETY OF DIFFERENT TOPICS IN THE MAGAZINE. THERE
WILL BE CLEAR DIFFERENTIATION BETWEEN SECTIONS TOO FURTHER
ENHANCE THE VARIETY THAT IS INCLUDED IN THE MAGAZINE. THIS GIVES A
SENSE THAT THERE IS A LOT MORE CONTENT THAN FIRST ASSUMED. THE
MAGAZINE WILL AIM TO INCLUDE MAINLY INTERVIEWS AND Q AND A’S
WITH BANDS AND ARTISTS THAT FIT WITHIN THE GENRE OF INDIE ROCK.
THIS IS DUE TO THE RESULTS OF MY ANALYSIS OF RESULTS AS 59% OF
PEOPLE WOULD PREFER TO SEE INTERVIEWS AS APPOSE TO OTHER TOPICS.
THIS IS A GOOD TOPIC TO INCLUDE IN THE MAGAZINE AS PEOPLE ARE
GENUINELY INTERESTED IN WHAT HIGH STATUS FIGURES HAVE TO SAY.
ALSO INCLUDING WELL KNOWN ARTISTS WILL HELP TO INCREASE THE
LEGITIMACY OF THE MAGAZINE AND ENCOURAGE PURCHASES. ANOTHER
TOPIC I WILL COVER IS INFORMATION ABOUT CURRENT EVENTS SUCH AS
FESTIVALS AND GIGS AROUND THE UK AS THIS WAS ANOTHER POPULAR
OPTION IN MY ANALYSIS OF RESULTS. WITHIN THE ARTICLES IN MY
MAGAZINE I WILL ALSO TRY TO GO INTO DEPTH ON SPECIFIC TOPICS SUCH
AS LYRICS, INSTRUMENTS AND BAND LIFE ETC. TO TRY AND AIM AT
PEOPLES SPECIFIC INTERESTS.
Reader Profile
EMMA IS A 16 YEAR OLD WHO LIVES IN THIRSK AND HAS A REAL TASTE FOR
INDIE ROCK. SHE'S BEEN INTO ROCK FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS AND HAS
BEEN TO MULTIPLE MUSIC EVENTS THAT HAVE HAD A BIG IMPACT ON HER.
ALL HER FRIENDS ARE INTO THE SAME MUSIC TO HER AND ARE CONSTANTLY
INTRODUCING HER TO NEW AND INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS THROUGH THE
INTERNET AND MUSIC APPLICATIONS. MUSIC IS THE TOPIC OF NEARLY ALL
OF HER CONVERSATIONS AND SHE'S INTRODUCED MANY OF HER FRIENDS
INTO ROCK MUSIC ALSO. IF EMMA ISN’T SOCIALISING WITH HER FRIENDS
AND LISTENING TO MUSIC THEN SHE'S AT HER PART TIME JOB AT THE LOCAL
CAFÉ. NEARLY ALL HER POCKET MONEY IS PUT TOWARDS FESTIVALS AND
GIGS SHE WANTS TO GO TO. BUT A LOT OF THE TIME SHE HAS TO MISS OUT
AS THEY'RE SO EXPENSIVE. EMMA LIVES FOR MUSIC AND IT SEEMS TO RUN
IN HER BLOOD AS HER DAD IS THE LEAD SINGER OF A BAND. WITHOUT
MUSIC EMMA WOULDN’T BE THE SAME PERSON THAT SHE IS TODAY, AND
LIVES HER LIFE TAKING EVERY CHANCE THAT COMES HER WAY, BEING
THANKFUL FOR EVERY ADVANTAGE SHE GETS.
Mission Statement
WELL, WHERE DO I START? FROM PUNK TO ALTERNATIVE AND FROM CLASSIC
TO HEAVY, WE HAVE IT ALL. DON’T BOTHER LOOKING ANYWHERE ELSE FOR A
BETTER MAGAZINE BECAUSE YOU’RE NOT GOING TO FIND ONE. BY
COMBINING A HUGE NUMBER OF ARTISTS FROM THE MOST POPULAR TO
THE LEAST, AND A HUGE RANGE OF STYLES ‘ROCK’N’ HAS DEVELOPED AN
ENTIRELY NEW APPROACH TO ROCK MAGAZINES.IT WILL BE AT THE
FOREFRONT OF MUSIC NEWS, PICKING IT UP AS IT HAPPENS, CAPTURING
EVERY DETAIL. ‘ROCK’N’ WILL NOT ONLY LOOK INTO THE LYRICS AND
WRITING OF SONGS BUT ALSO LOOK AT THE INSTRUMENTAL SECTIONS, TO
AIM AT THE READERS THAT HAVE A MORE INSTRUMENTAL SIDE TO ROCK
MUSIC. ‘ROCK’N’ IS BUILT ON THE MUTUAL RESPECT OF MUSIC THAT IT HAS
WITH ITS READERS AND UNDERSTANDS WHAT THEIR AUDIENCE WANTS.
ALSO WITH THE USE OF OUR MONTHLY FREE CD’S AND OTHER FREE
MERCHANDISE IT ALLOWS READERS TO NOT ONLY READ ABOUT THE MUSIC,
BUT ACTUALLY HEAR IT TOO. THIS SHOWS HOW MUCH WE APPRECIATE
MUSIC. DOESN’T IT? I MEAN WE’RE GIVING IT TO YOU FOR FREE! IF YOU
WANT MUSIC THAT’S GOING TO TOUCH YOUR HEART AND SOUL,

  • 2. The Title THE TITLE OF MY MAGAZINE WILL BE ‘ROCK’N’. I HAVE CHOSEN THIS AS IT INSTANTLY TELLS THE READER WHAT THE MAGAZINE CONTAINS. FIRSTLY IT TELLS THE READER THAT THE MAGAZINE IS A ROCK MAGAZINE, AS IT CLEARLY STATES IN THE TITLE. THE USE OF THE ‘N GIVES AN OLD FEEL TO THE TITLE. THIS SHOWS THAT THE MAGAZINE WONT ONLY CONTAIN RECENT BANDS AND ARTISTS, BUT ALSO OLDER ARTISTS TO HELP ENCOURAGE AN WIDER TARGET AUDIENCE. THE FACT THAT THE WORD ‘ROCK’ HAS BEEN USED IN THE TITLE ALSO HELPS TO REINFORCE WHAT THE MAGAZINE IS ABOUT AS IT ATTRACTS AN AUDIENCE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN THE ROCK GENRE. AS YOU CAN SEE ON THE RIGHT I HAVE PLACED A SELECTION OF DIFFERENT FONTS FOR MY TITLE. EACH ONE HAS A DISTINCTIVE ROCK FEEL TO THEM THAT DEPICTS THE STYLE OF MUSIC AND WHAT WILL BE IN THE MAGAZINE.
  • 3. The Genre FOR MY MAGAZINE I'M USING ROCK AS THE CHOSEN GENRE. THIS IS SIMPLY DOWN TO THE FACT THAT ROCK IS MY PREFERRED STYLE OF MUSIC, BUT ALSO MOST OF MY RESEARCH WAS BASED OFF OF ROCK MAGAZINES. HOWEVER ROCK IS A DIFFICULT GENRE TO CREATE A MAGAZINE FOR AS IT’S A VERY COMPETITIVE AND WIDE MARKET THAT HOLDS A GREAT DEAL OF POPULARITY. I FOUND THROUGH MY AUDIENCE RESEARCH THAT SPECIFICALLY INDIE ROCK IS WAS THE MOST POPULAR. I WILL USE THIS KNOWLEDGE TO TRY AND ATTEMPT TO INCREASE MY AUDIENCE BY AIMING MY FOCUS TOWARDS INDIE ROCK. HOWEVER I WILL TO A LOT OF CONTENT ON OTHER STYLES TO SATISFY OTHER READERS. DUE TO THE MAGAZINE COVERING A WIDE RANGE OF STYLES OF ROCK IT WILL APPEAL TO A LOT MORE PEOPLE, THEREFORE HOPEFULLY COVERING BOTH HARD AND SOFT STYLES OF ROCK.

THIS WILL CREATE A MAGAZINE THAT PEOPLE WILL GENUINELY WANT TO READ WITH GOOD, RELIABLE AND INFORMATIVE SOURCES. AS MY MAGAZINE IS BEING PUBLISHED EVERY MONTH ILL BE ABLE TO INCLUDE A LOT MORE CONTENT HOWEVER THIS WILL ADD TO ITS COST. I DOUBT THIS WILL PREVENT PEOPLE FROM PURCHASING IT AS THE PUBLICATION IS SPREAD OUT TO EVERY MONTH. AS THE MAGAZINE WILL HAVE INCREASED CONTENT AMONG WITH OTHER FEATURES IT WILL COST £2.99. AS THE MAGAZINE IS BELOW £3 IT MAKES THE AUDIENCE THINK THAT ITS CHEAPER, THEREFORE THEY’RE MORE LIKELY TO BUY THE MAGAZINE. ALSO PEOPLE WILL BE MORE WILLING TO PAY MONTHLY FOR MORE CONTENT RATHER THAN WEEKLY WITH A WORSE QUALITY MAGAZINE. THIS IS SHOWN THROUGH MY ANALYSIS OF RESULTS AS A HUGE 74% PREFERRED MONTHLY RELEASES.

Presentation and Attitude THE ATTITUDE AND PRESENTATION OF THE MAGAZINE WILL BE OVER EXAGGERATED TO CREATE SOMETHING THAT THE READER WILL REMEMBER AND BE INTERESTED IN, AND HOPEFULLY READ AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. THE COLOUR SCHEME OF MY MAGAZINE WILL BE BLACK, GREY AND RED AS THIS WAS SHOWN TO BE THE MOST POPULAR IN THE ANALYSIS OF RESULTS SECTION AT 73%. THE COLOUR SCHEME IS ALSO SHOWN TO BE A CRUCIAL PART OF THE MAGAZINES MAKEUP AS STATED BY 23% OF PEOPLE IN MY ANALYSIS. THE USE OF THIS COLOUR SCHEME WILL COMPLIMENT THE IMAGES ALLOWING THEM TO STAND OUT MORE AND ADDING DEFINITION TO IMAGES WHEN NEEDED. THE IMAGES USED IN THE MAGAZINE WILL ALSO BE BENEFITED BY A REASONABLY NEUTRAL COLOUR SCHEME, MEANING THEY CAN POP OUT OF THE PAGE AND CATCH THE READERS EYE. THE WAY IN WHICH THE TEXT IS SHOWN IN THE MAGAZINE FURTHER HELPS TO DRAW THE READER IN. THIS IS DONE THROUGH THE WAY THE TEXT IS LAID OUT ON THE PAGE. BY SPREADING TEXT OUT AS SHOWN IN THE IMAGE TO THE RIGHT IT CREATES A SORT OF GAME FOR THE READER TO WORK OUT THE ORDER OF THE WORDS. CERTAIN KEY WORDS WILL ALSO BE PUT IN BOLD OR A DIFFERENT COLOUR TO CATCH THE READERS EYE IF THEY SHOW INTEREST TO IT.

THIS WILL NOT ONLY ADD INTEREST FOR THE READER BUT IT WILL ALSO MAKE IT VISIBLY MORE APPEALING, IN THAT PEOPLE WANT TO SEE A LARGE SELECTION OF TOPICS. HAVING VARIETY IN THE MAGAZINE NOT ONLY WIDENS PEOPLES TASTES AND INTERESTS BUT ALSO WILL ENCOURAGE THE PUBLIC TO BUY THE MAGAZINE IN THE FUTURE AS IT WILL HAVE NEW ELEMENTS EACH WEEK, AND WONT STICK TO THE SAME OLD TRENDS OF SIMILAR THINGS EACH WEEK. ALSO THE ADDITION OF FREEBIES, SUCH AS POSTERS, ACCESSORIES AND CD SINGLES, WILL PROMOTE THE BELIEF THAT YOU'RE GETTING MORE FOR YOUR MONEY, THEREFORE ADDING TO THE SELLING POINTS OF THE MAGAZINE. THE LAYOUT OF THE MAGAZINE WILL INCLUDE SHORT SENTENCES THAT ARE TO THE POINT TO PREVENT READERS GETTING BORED, COMBINED WITH LARGE BOLD IMAGES.

THIS IS DUE TO THE RESULTS OF MY ANALYSIS OF RESULTS AS 59% OF PEOPLE WOULD PREFER TO SEE INTERVIEWS AS APPOSE TO OTHER TOPICS. THIS IS A GOOD TOPIC TO INCLUDE IN THE MAGAZINE AS PEOPLE ARE GENUINELY INTERESTED IN WHAT HIGH STATUS FIGURES HAVE TO SAY. ALSO INCLUDING WELL KNOWN ARTISTS WILL HELP TO INCREASE THE LEGITIMACY OF THE MAGAZINE AND ENCOURAGE PURCHASES. ANOTHER TOPIC I WILL COVER IS INFORMATION ABOUT CURRENT EVENTS SUCH AS FESTIVALS AND GIGS AROUND THE UK AS THIS WAS ANOTHER POPULAR OPTION IN MY ANALYSIS OF RESULTS. WITHIN THE ARTICLES IN MY MAGAZINE I WILL ALSO TRY TO GO INTO DEPTH ON SPECIFIC TOPICS SUCH AS LYRICS, INSTRUMENTS AND BAND LIFE ETC. TO TRY AND AIM AT PEOPLES SPECIFIC INTERESTS.
