1. Evaluation Question 4
How did you use media technologies in the construction
and research, planning and evaluation stages?
2. Overview: Research and Planning
The group and I heavily used media technologies during the research and
planning, construction and evaluation stages. This was because OCR required us
to submit our coursework electronically.
During the research and planning stages, the group and I all individually
analysed film trailers of different genres, magazine front covers and film posters.
In order to do this, we heavily relied on the internet (Google Chrome and
Internet Explorer) as well as social networking sites such as YouTube. YouTube
allowed us to analyse and stop film trailers at key moments. We also looked at
the comments and ‘likes’ of each film trailer.
The group used Google Images to analyse the codes and conventions of film
posters and magazines.
3. Overview 2: Production
The group and I heavily used media technologies during the
production/construction stage. We used a Canon Legria R806 and a Sandisk
16gb SD to record. We inserted the SD card into the computer and
imported our footage via Serif Movie Plus.
We then adapted/manipulated our footage: adding transitions and non-
copyright free music to complement the scenes. This added emotions and
engaged audiences further.
We use Serif Photo Plus and Serif Page Plus for our ancillary tasks. This
allowed the group to manipulate images and adjust typography and adhere
to industry conventions.
4. Serif Movie Plus X6
Serif Movie Plus X6 was used to edit the clips recorded. This software was
also used to add in sound effects, background music and transitions
including cuts and fades. This is how the movie was put together, and
exported as a video file.
5. Blogger
We were told to set up a Blogger to record our progress through the
Planning and Research, Production and Evaluation stages of the project.
This was the second year we used blogger so we had an idea of what we
were doing and were familiar of the process of blogging through the three
stages of our project.
6. Google
Google was an important tool for our project as we used it for researching
different magazine covers, accessing websites like YouTube, Prezi and
Slideshare as well as Blogger. Google was mainly used during the Research
and Planning stages
7. YouTube
YouTube was a very important tool of our project as we used it to view other
peoples A2 movie trailers. We also used it to research movie trailers from
big budget movies and independent movies.
For the production part of the project YouTube was used to upload the draft
and Final versions of Working Title: The Hunted. The main negative about
using YouTube was that the video quality was compressed compared to the
original.
9. Canon R806 & Hama Star 63 Tripod
The Canon R806 Camcorder was used to film all live action shots during the
production process of our project. This camera was really easy to use and
gave us all of the footage that we needed to film the film trailer for Working
Title: The Hunted.
The Hama Star 63 tripod was used so that our camcorder was sturdy and
gave the trailer professional feel rather than a shaky cam feel.
