Separation of Lanthanides/ Lanthanides and Actinides
Evaluation question 4
1. Evaluation Question 4: How did you
use media technologies in the
construction, research, planning
and evaluation stages?
2. Introduction
To plan and carry out the task of making a
music video is is necessary to use a wide
variety of technologies. Media technologies
from the internet to HD cameras were used
throughout the process of the construction,
research, planning and evaluation.
3. HD Camera
The most important device is of course the
camera we filmed with, being a the most
necessary piece of equipment as we used it to
film the construction stages. The camera was HD,
of which my group and class had never used
before, having a much better picture and easier
to film with than the SD cameras. It also
converted really well and we did not lose and
frames or pixel quality when it was uploaded
onto the computer. The HD ability of the camera
helped to keep the picture quality when the
camera was moving or when we had a close-up .
5. Final Cut Express
For editing we used a program called Final Cut Express.
Final Cut allowed us to arrange the different parts of our
filming into a sequence, to which the sound could be cut
and the music of our song added. There are alsoseveral
other editing processes that we didn’t use but were readily
available if needs be.
6. Final Cut Express
There are also a wide array of filter and
different styles if cuts to use, you can also
slow down and reverse your footage and
music to create a something unique.
7. Final Cut Express
For our video specifically we used something called chroma keyer
which allowed us to fade out the green-screen parts and show the picture
behind it. This was very useful as the alternative of getting a desk out to a
series of locations and dragging it is impractical.
The slider needs to go over
the right part of the colour
spectrum, so that you have
the correct shade and tone of
green
Here you can see that not all
the green is selected, this
means that not all the green
will be phased out, the result
is that you can still see green
on the image
8. Google
Our main search tool for the duration of our music
video was Google. We used Google to get access to sites
such as Blogger and Unsigned from which we chose our
artist and song and the place where we do our blogs. We
also used Google to get access to Google Maps and take a
look at the area in which we wanted to film, we also used it
to look for a suitable location. Google is also useful for
checking the weather forecast and it is readily available to
see, in contrast to on TV where you have to wait for the
news. Knowing the weather was a massive help as we
found days that we were all free but there were rainstorms
which was not suitable for what we wanted to get. So we
had to change our timetable to not only match our
schedule but also the weather.
9. Blogger
For the past 2 years I have been using Blogger to record all my
progress and accomplishments in Media Studies.
10. Blogger
All of our blog posts can be
arranged to make viewing
easy and less frustrating,
for example you can select
labels and then assign
certain posts to that label.
This means that all you
have to do is click on the
label and you will see all
post that come under that
label.
11. Blogger
Like many other programs,
Blogger allows you to insert
images or videos straight onto a
post, or in case that doesn’t work
you can directly embed a video
straight into your posts code. This
helps with viewing the video, as
sometimes it doesn’t allow you to
watch unless it is embedded.
Uploading a video is very easy
as videos can be selected
straight from YouTube, you can
either select a video from your
channel or search a videos
name and then select it
12. Unsigned
Finding the right artist can be the most difficult or the easiest part, in our
case it was quite difficult, we changed our chosen song several times
before we found ‘Martial Riesling’. Using an unsigned artist is nine times
out of ten the only way to get a song, as it is unlikely that you will get a
response from a famous and popular artist as they are likely busy or just
snobby. Another reason why getting an unsigned artist is easier is because
they are going to be getting as much out of you as you are getting out of
them, you get to complete your A levels and they get to use you as an
advert to get their music recognised. You can use the search bar to look
for specific names or you can search genres, this makes getting around a
lot easier and after endless searching you might just find that artist and
song you’ve always wanted.
14. Gmail
As mentioned before, we needed to get permission from
the artist in order to legally use their song and not risk it getting
removed when its uploaded. So in November last year we sent
an email requesting permission from Mr Hauck and he replied
within hours.
