AUDIENCE
FEEDBACK
SURVEY’S

Through creating a survey and uploading it to my blog I was able to gain responses from a large range of people in my target audience. They allowed me to
identify the key points that were successful within the rough cut of our trailer and which points we could change in order to create a more effective production.
A key point that was identified within the rough cut of the trailer was the effectiveness of the characters within the film and how these were represented, this
was also a key theme that was identified in the feedback from the final film trailer. Therefore, demonstrating how a key feature within the trailer which I
produced had to be how the characters could relate to the audience. This was a key convention in the Thriller film genre as within this genre of film it is
conventional for the audience to relate to the characters, even the antagonist where there is normally some kind of reconciliation in the end of the film where
the audience can understand their motives. Therefore, we wanted to keep this as a key theme within the production. The survey feedback from the rough
cut also listed the effectiveness of the mise-en-scene specifically the lighting and setting. Therefore, we have maintained the setting of the film’s production
and kept the lighting low in order to match the conventions of the Thriller film genre.
Points that I have kept from the feedback from the rough cut:
Relation to the target audience
Variety of camera angles
Confrontation between the antagonist and Protagonist
Low key lighting
Dark clothing
I have also taken the feedback that I gained from the rough cut of the film trailer to build on the points within the ancillary products. Through this I have
identified that the protagonist should be the main feature on the front cover and the magazine should have an ordered layout. This therefore allowed me to
build upon the key points of the ancillary production.
Does the film provide an effective snapshot for the narrative of
the film? Why do you think this is?

WALLWISHER FEEDBACK
The use of the wall wisher for the audience feedback allowed me to identify the
progression of the production for our Thriller film. Allowing me to identify the key points
which I needed to include in the production in order to make my trailer appealing to the
target audience.
From the feedback from the pitch I identified that:
There are conventional points of the production company that needs to be identified
within the production work.
The film needs to have social links in order to link the attract the target audience to the
production
The genre of the film need to be a key element within the production
Therefore, I took the feedback that I gained from this and added these points to the key
elements of the rough cut of our film production. Then the rough cut of the production
allowed me to identify the key points that I could add in our final piece of work for our film
trailer.
In the rough cut the good points that I identified was that:
There was a variety of shot types
The location was effective for the genre of the film production
The acting and representation of the characters was effective
The effective use of mise-en-scene
Following the rough cut of the production the points to add included:
Production Information in order to give a professional appearance to the work
Music in order to create suspense and drama within the scene’s
Narrative with more detailed points such as information about the nature of the events in
the woodland
A confrontation between a protagonist and antagonist.
Therefore, I took the feedback from the rough cut production work and incorporated this
into the final film trailer including the key points and themes of the film genre.
Therefore, the feedback for the final piece of production included:
 The film is very conventional featuring a variety of shot types that matches the film
trailer forms
 The film trailer captures the audiences attention and they want to know what is going
to happen next
 The trailer provides an effective snapshot of the narrative and characters involved
within the film
 The feedback on the film also includes information concerning the scenes that are
portrayed within the film. Within the audience feedback they believe that the
confrontation between the antagonist and protagonist is a key point within the trailer as
it create mystery and suspense within the film.
FOCUS GROUP INTERVIEWS

I have used focus group interview throughout my planning and production work in order to gain direct feedback for my work from the target
audience. On my first interview, I examined the key conventions of the trailers genre and form looking at the appeal to the target audience .
The points that I found within this interview was that the main appeal for the Thriller film genre was the creation of suspense and tension
within the film which captures the audiences attention and make them want to watch more of the film. . I also found with the interview that
the target audience believed non-diegetic sound was the most important feature with the trailer genre as it creates a dramatic atmosphere
which is conventional of the Thriller genre. I also found that the target audience believed that the trailer should show a good representation
of the film without the revealing too much about the plot and the characters. Finally from the first interview I identified that the target
audience believed that the main feature on the poster and magazine front cover should be the main character within the film as the
audience can directly relate to the character and their personality when they see the image. Therefore, I took these points into
consideration when I was producing my final piece of production work.
Once I had produced my final film trailer alongside a shorter teaser trailer version I was able to gain further feedback from the target
audience of the film. Therefore, identifying the key sections of the production and identify if I have been able to match the key points
identified in the first interview to the final piece of production work.
The points identified within the final film trailer was:
Strong use of camera work that incorporate the key elements of the film production
Music that creates suspense and mystery within the production
A mysterious setting that captures the audiences attention
The film trailer represented the key conventions of the form including the use of caption and production credits
The use of a confrontation between the antagonist and protagonist.
Therefore from the two interview either side of the production work: one at the beginning and one at the end I was able to identify whether I
have made my film trailer effective in a representation of the film genre.
