might distribute your media product
and why?
Distribution
• If we were given the chance to actually produce our
film, then we would limit the range of companies that
could produce and ultimately distribute our film. Our
opening sequence used the Universal introduction, as
we primarily intended to use this company’s huge
powers in distribution to sell our film to its best
possible potential. Universal is one of the biggest, if not
the biggest production and distribution companies in
the world and this shows the ambition we have for our
production and the heights that we believe it could
reach. They would also enable us to have a high
grossing profit for our production.
Distribution and Promotion
• We would definitely find it easy to distribute and promote our film
and make it a success, as it fits with the typical narrative of a
psychological horror story. By looking at the film that inspired the
creation of our production, ‘The Woman in Black’, you can see that
our film would be successful, as it is quite similar to this and it
conveys the same ideological themes of the horror genre that are
easy to market to the psychological horror-loving audience. The
advertisement of our production would be easy with our target
audience because we would be able to use a range of different
technologies, including web 2.0, as it is easy to connect with most
15 - 25 year olds through social networking services such as
Facebook and Twitter. This would show how easy it would be to
spread word of our production by word of mouth.
Promotion
• Our production would gain huge, instant attention because
of the narrative and psychological horror conventions that
our film shares with other big, money-making productions
in the past, like The Woman in Black. Our usage of the
unknown and the eerie theme that we connote at the start
of our opening scene through non-diegetic sound shows
our similarities to other psychological horror productions.
We know that these features are engaging as they have
already been shown to be in the film market over the past
few years. An official website could also be used as a
further way of using the internet to promote the film,
because it could entice people with the use of promotional
events and further trailers for the film, branching into a
viral marketing campaign.
