ORIGINAL
BRIEF
I have been set the challenge of creating a
promotional campaign to advertise a new
supernatural horror film. This promotional
package must include three pieces of media: a
promotional trailer, film poster, and a film
magazine front cover. Each of these three
promotional pieces must maintain symbiotic links
in order to create a unique sense of identity for the
film , while ensuring that a certain level of
professionalism can be sustained.
The film being advertised is called The Basement,
although this currently serves as a working title
and may later be subject to alteration. The reason
for choosing it to fall under the supernatural
subgenre is that it is one of the only subgenres
within horror open to expansion and inauguration
with other genres, allowing me to create a more
unique film that fuses elements of psychological
and slasher genres while retaining a distinctive
otherworldly feel. Furthermore, I usually find that
supernatural horror films are the ones that endure
the longest, long after the credits have rolled, and
continue to play tricks on you in your own personal
life. I would love to attempt to replicate that effect
with The Basement, to fulfil the viewers’ need to be
scared beyond all reckoning.
In order to create a successful promotional
package, various existing texts, media, and films
relevant to the genre will be explored in depth. This
will allow me to recognise conventions that are
essential in attracting audiences and apply them to
my own promotional package, to maximise the
chances of effective success. I am thoroughly
looking forward to finishing this project and
creating a truly memorable film.
