The author created a horror trailer, magazine cover, and poster for a film called "Beastly" to effectively link the products together. Specifically, the author used the same typography for the title across all three products and incorporated dark colors, woods imagery, and the color red - which are conventions of the horror genre - to represent the scary tone and connect the locations and themes. The author believes combining these ancillary texts with the trailer adds mystery and provokes audiences to learn more about and want to see the unknown film.
1. 4. How effective is the combination of your
main products and ancillary texts?

2. When creating my horror trailer, magazine cover and horror poster I wanted to create
a link between all three products so the audience would be able to identify them with
one another. The main link between my products was the typography used, the title
‘Beastly’. I used the same typography for all three products because I wanted the
audience to be able to establish a common link between all of my products so they
were instantly recognisable.
3. I used dark colours for both the magazine cover and the film poster to represent the
horror genre quite clearly as it brings across the scary aura, and this is shown through
all the products I created. In my magazine cover I used the woods which is the location
of the film and that is also shown through the horror trailer.
4. Also there is an occurring them of the colour red that goes through all three of my
products this too highlights the fact that they represent the horror genre as the colour
red conveys a sense of danger or impending danger/death. I wanted this to come
across in all my products
5. I believe that my two ancillary tasks adds a further dimension of mystery to my actual
task which was the horror trailer. This way my products provoke the audience to want
to go see the film and understand what it is about, why it is called Beastly and why it is
set in the woods.
6. I believe the amalgamation of all three media products is really effective in targeting
my target audience, as I believe I used the right amount of conventions to make the
audience feel quite scared and unsettled and scared by the horror aspects. This I
believe create enigma’s for the audience as they would like to know what my film is
about and to answer the questions that they feel to ask after seeing my media
products.
