Q3. What have you learned
from your audience feedback?
By Grzegorz Wycislok
After completing my documentary I have
produced a post-production survey to find out
what people think about my three products.

Documentary
Strengths:
After conducting my survey I have found
out that most of the people liked the music I
have chosen for my opening sequence as
well as for the main montage. “The opening
music added a bit of tension to the opening
sequence and kept the serious tone
throughout the whole documentary. After
the title appears the change in music to more
relaxed one, gave us the audience time to
understand what this is all about, well done!”
Continuation
• Other feature that have gained very good response was the professional
speaker. This was a very important feature for me to add into my work as it
is consistently used in existing documentaries as well as being a popular
choice in my audience research earlier of. I used Survey monkey to do a
questionnaire into what people would prefer to see and this came out to be a
very popular choice. This allowed me to know it was important for the
public to feel well informed by the documentary and have an educated voice
present.
Weaknesses
People that have watched the
documentary said that if I included
more music to my documentary it
would not drag as much as it did. As I
have only used two track in my video, it
may have been a bit boring to watch.
However, this is the thing I will
remember when making my
documentary in future.
Newspaper Advertisment
Strengths
I have also asked what people think about
the advertisement I have made as part of my
ancillary tasks. They particularly liked the
Channel 4 style throughout which really
benefitted me when creating my Newspaper
advertisement. From my research I was able
to know that it was vital for them image to
be simple yet have an underlying message.
The audience really liked how the picture
was manipulated in order to create bigger
impact.
Contiunation
• One of the people surveyed said “I relay liked how you have removed the
original brand names and then added the racist words. At first I didn’t notice
anything and then it just hit me!” By shocking the audience I am able to
quickly grasp their attention and keep it from the start.
From the feedback I gained throughout I was able to learn how import
feedback is. Many of the suggestions strengthened my work for example her
comments on the montage were a large influence. It led me to quicken the
pace and really bombard the audience gaining an overall shock factor
Weaknesses
There was not a lot of weaknesses,
however form my own point of view I
would say that next time I would have
to do a newspaper advertisement in
channel 4 style I would try to use more
minimalism as this picture may have
too many details.
Listing Magazine Article
Strengths
Most of the audience really likes the
professional look of my double page spread.
‘’I really like how you included lots of
conventions, and it looks like a real article’’.
However, the biggest feature that gained the
most ‘’likes’’ was the headline picture that I
have made myself. People liked how it
reflected the title which is ‘Is this our
England?’
Continuation
• One of the speakers said “I love how you have added those flags at the top
to highlight the fact that England is now getting more and more immigrants,
that it may no longer be English”. Some people liked that I have added the
social media feature as it shows that I can follow the trends and most of the
articles are available online.
Weaknesses
If I would have to make the article again I
would write more about what the whole
documentary will be about as some of the
interviewees said that it was good but they
would like to know more about the
documentary in order to attract them to
watch it.
Conclusion
• In conclusion my production gained a lot of good feedback as it looked
professional and real. Audience liked the fact that I have used the Channel 4
style and added serious tone to all three products. However there are still lots
of improvements I would make if I would have to do it again. The main
improvement would be to record more varied shots in order to make the
documentary more interesting. As well as that for my advertisement I would
try to stick to minimalism as this is what Channel 4 does. Overall I am very
happy with my products.
