This document discusses various tools that can be used to evaluate student achievement in social studies. It describes six commonly used evaluation tools: 1) paper and pencil tests like multiple choice, completion, and matching items; 2) analyzing work products like projects and assignments; 3) oral assessments through discussions, interviews, and oral reports; 4) formal and informal observations of student attitudes and behaviors; 5) performance-based assessments like conducting investigations and surveys; and 6) portfolio assessments by collecting a variety of student work over time in a portfolio.
