EVALUATION 7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel that you have
learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
CONVENTIONS
• I have learnt that it is quite
important to conform to the
conventions of your chosen
genre but at the same time
you need to change things in
order for your magazine to
have a unique selling point.
• In my student magazine I just
followed all the conventions
but in the music magazine I
took a risk because I know that
my target audience want to
see something different
nowadays .
TECHNIQUE
• My technique on how to make a
magazine has developed a lot since the
preliminary task. At the start I knew basic
skills such as making a simple button but
now I’m doing things such as cropping out
images and blending.
• The way in which I approached it was very
different as well. With the student
magazine I stuck to what I learnt from
lessons but with the music magazine task I
experimented with a couple of things such
as my button to make it stand out more.
EFFECTS
• In the preliminary task I didn’t really have
the chance to use effects but in the music
magazine I used it in my double page
spread. I found that it makes a magazine
look much more attractive and it could
even symbolise something.
• With my double page spread in particular,
the grey scale effect used linked in with my
headline and provided a good contrast for
the rest of the page.
TIME
• The time spent on these products
was very different in my case. For the
preliminary task I did not spend much
time on it at all but the music
magazine was quite time consuming.
The amount of sketches and
planning I did for this task was
completely different to the
preliminary task.
• One thing about the music magazine
in particular is that you need to plan
your time effectively. I learnt that is it
quite important to leave enough
time between each task so that the
standard still stays high.
