How did you
attract/address
your audience?
Before we started to film our title sequence, we
did some research which was very useful. We
discovered that most people enjoy watching
horror films, especially males due to the fear
factor. Therefore, by choosing the horror genre
we were able to attract an audience because it
is one of the most popular genres. Using the
typical conventions would attract the audience
as they knew what to expect.
Firstly, we attracted our audience to our film by
using the typical conventions of a horror film.
For example, good vs evil and gore, set within
isolated areas. Also, I think we achieved good
camera work, mise en scene, lighting and
sound, which are all important to create a
successful film. Costume was another success
as we created a fantastic horror antagonist.
However, we decided to go against the final
girl theory. This states that within a horror
film, a female always survives. However, we
didn’t even include a female character.
Therefore, we attracted the audience as they
would have liked to have seen a horror film
that goes against such a typical convention.
However, doing this may have lost a few
female viewers as they may not find it
relatable to themselves.
I think people would like to continue to watch
our film after seeing the title sequence as it
leaves you thinking what is going to happen
next. The main character has been killed so
how are the other characters within the film
going to solve this horror mystery. The
audience isn’t sure from the title sequence
whether or not the Cloaked figure will be
caught or if he will go on a killing streak.
Therefore, they will want to carry on watching
to see what happens next.
I think our audience would be satisfied with our
film as it follows the majority of the
conventions and even challenges one. This
might attract more people to watch to see if
this challenge could work in the future. I
believe the audience would be satisfied as it
creates tension, fear and includes weapons and
death. Throughout, the atmosphere is of fear,
which is created through different camera
shots and the non-diegetic sound.
After completing our film, we showed our title
sequence to our audience and we had
successful feedback. Many people said they
thought the sound matched with the sequence
and that they enjoyed it when the continuous
ticking sound increased speed when the
antagonist appeared to confront the
protagonist. They also like the killing at the end
as they said that is what you expect within a
horror film.
To improve our title sequence I think we could
have increased the tempo to create a more
tense atmosphere. We could have included a
female character to fit in with the final girl
theory, however, I think we wanted to
challenge that convention. Finally, I think we
could have created a more eye catching title to
attract the audience. Overall, I think our title
sequence was successful and we would know
how to improve if we did it again.

  • 1. How did you attract/address your audience? Before we started to film our title sequence, we did some research which was very useful. We discovered that most people enjoy watching horror films, especially males due to the fear factor. Therefore, by choosing the horror genre we were able to attract an audience because it is one of the most popular genres. Using the typical conventions would attract the audience as they knew what to expect. Firstly, we attracted our audience to our film by using the typical conventions of a horror film. For example, good vs evil and gore, set within isolated areas. Also, I think we achieved good camera work, mise en scene, lighting and sound, which are all important to create a successful film. Costume was another success as we created a fantastic horror antagonist. However, we decided to go against the final girl theory. This states that within a horror film, a female always survives. However, we didn’t even include a female character. Therefore, we attracted the audience as they would have liked to have seen a horror film that goes against such a typical convention. However, doing this may have lost a few female viewers as they may not find it relatable to themselves. I think people would like to continue to watch our film after seeing the title sequence as it leaves you thinking what is going to happen next. The main character has been killed so how are the other characters within the film going to solve this horror mystery. The audience isn’t sure from the title sequence whether or not the Cloaked figure will be caught or if he will go on a killing streak. Therefore, they will want to carry on watching to see what happens next. I think our audience would be satisfied with our film as it follows the majority of the conventions and even challenges one. This might attract more people to watch to see if this challenge could work in the future. I believe the audience would be satisfied as it creates tension, fear and includes weapons and death. Throughout, the atmosphere is of fear, which is created through different camera shots and the non-diegetic sound. After completing our film, we showed our title sequence to our audience and we had successful feedback. Many people said they thought the sound matched with the sequence and that they enjoyed it when the continuous ticking sound increased speed when the antagonist appeared to confront the protagonist. They also like the killing at the end as they said that is what you expect within a horror film. To improve our title sequence I think we could have increased the tempo to create a more tense atmosphere. We could have included a female character to fit in with the final girl theory, however, I think we wanted to challenge that convention. Finally, I think we could have created a more eye catching title to attract the audience. Overall, I think our title sequence was successful and we would know how to improve if we did it again.
