have been produced to tie in with the films (synergies)
1. In two paragraphs, relate factual information about the version of Carrie produced in 1976
and the new version in 2013. Give details of the director, release date, distributor, budget
and box office takings. Describe the plot and cast briefly
With the original make of Carrie, the budget was lower than what Screen Gems had, this is
because Screen Gems is a bigger company and with the original doing so well and then the blue
ray release selling quickly, they counted on a re-make succeeding. Fans of the film could either be
intrigued that there’s a remake or wouldn’t want them to change anything from the original.
2. GiveKimberley Peirce’s reasons for remaking Carrie. Define the target audience for the film.
Carrie was a very popular film and when Screen Gems released the blue ray version of Carrie it
was very popular. This encouraged them to create a remake of the 1976 version.
3. Explain how some of Kimberley Pierce’s reasons for remaking Carrie could be to do with
trends, particularly amongst the film’s target audience
Both 1976 version and the 2013 version were released later on in the year; this is because it is
around the time of Halloween. The target audience are teens going to the cinema to watch horror
films. The film is based on a girl getting bullied in school, who else would understand/relate to that
more than teenagers themselves.
4. Consider the companies responsible for the making of both films. What is their relationship?
Describe the relationship and state why this is a financial factor.
Screen Gems have bought the rights to Carrie; however, have worked with companies that made the
original. This will help them make more money because they will be able to re-release the original.
5. Consider the products that tie in with the release of Carrie and give details of:
How synergy is a factor in the remake of the film
How the films soundtrack will appeal to the target audience (try to find if any artists
have released tracks individually to coincide with the release)
4. Both companies working on the re-make of Carrie will ensure that the film gets the publicity it needs
to be successful. Because the original will already have an audience because of the book and the
original film, they would have had to stick to the original story line.

Why have producers of the Carrie re-make chosen Chloe Grace Moretz?
This actress is very popular with the teenage audience. She has appeared in Kick-Ass, a film aimed
at a teenage audience. The producers have noticed she has become popular and cast her as the
lead character. There are two different types of target audiences for this film. The teenage market
and the fans of the original film.
