We are going to do the photo-shoot in the photography studio as it has a white
backdrop. When editing our photos I would like us to try and edit some backgrounds in
just for experimentation for our blogs.
Style
We’ve decided we want the band members to be wearing black and red instead of them
all wearing different things and looking dis-coordinated. We want to try some different
things with this photo-shoot; in some images the band will have their instruments with
them and in some they will just be stood in different positions trying different
expressions.
Lighting and Camera Shots
We will use the lights in the studio and have them positioned so that they create no shadows
through the photo-shoot. We will also use a variety of camera shots including quite a few extreme
close-ups, which will show star image. Other shots we will use are long shots of the full band, and
medium shots of each band member.
How and When
I plan on getting the photo-shoot done by the end of this week. The first thing I will need to do is
book out the studio for one of the next 3 days and I must also make sure everyone in the band is
available for that time. I will need to book out a camera to guarantee there is one available for
me. On the day of the shoot, I will need to make sure I have any props needed and then all that’s
left to do is set up the flash in the studio.
Examples
Most album covers use an image of the band members or the solo artist. However, there are also
some covers that will use images of objects or locations etc.
Here is an example of an album
that does not use a photo of the
musicians, instead it’s a picture
that in some ways, reflect on the
songs off the album. It shows a girl
breaking out of a wrecked house,
which also signifies her breaking
away from all of the cruel things in
her life. The colours used on this
cover may also represent the
difference between good (sky) and
bad (ground). This album cover
tells a story with just one image
and it also suits the name ‘Collide
With The Sky’.

2. PHOTO-SHOOT PREP
This is another example of a
professionally made album
cover. Conversely, this cover
does show all bad members. I
like this because it sticks to a
simple layout, colour scheme
and straight to the point with
only the band name ‘All Time
Low’, an image of all members
and the name of the album
‘Dirty Work’. This album cover
is just as efficacious as the last
(above). I think for the photoshoot, I am going to use an
image of the actual band as I
think it will look more
specialized than using a
picture that represents what’s
on the album. Using a photo of
all band members will show
‘star image’ and will be an
icon for All Time Low’s fans.
This is not an album cover; it’s a
cover for a DVD that All Time Low
made, which includes footage
from their concert in New York
and also their everyday lives. This
cover caught my eye because
unlike other album/DVD covers,
all members of the band are show
just in single images. This has
given me even more ideas for our
album cover as you very rarely
see covers with singular images
like this. This layout is very eyecatching and if our album cover is
setout this way I think it will catch
people immediate attention. As
for the background, I still intend
on using the studio to take my
images, as it will look more
professionally made.
I am using all three of these covers as inspiration for our photo-shoot, this gives us a lot
of options in terms of how we want the band to be positioned and whether we want
them all stood together or separate photos.
