A film distributor is a company or individual responsible for the marketing of a film. The
distributor may set the release date of a film and the method by which a film is to be exhibited
or made available for viewing. in an ideal world With the help of the “Film Distributors
Association” our media project will be distributed by Warner Bros who have been distributing
movies since 1904. Some of the titles that were distributed by Warner Bros consist of “The
Conjuring” which had a budget of an estimated £11,968,160. They made £155,499,474
worldwide. “The Hobbit: an unexpected journey” was another film distributed by Warner Bros,
they had a budget of an estimated amount of £10,771,344 and made over £133,335,656
worldwide. Another title distributed by Warner Bros is “A Nightmare on Elm Street” they had a
budget of £19 688,998 and made over £67,859,467 worldwide.
Therefore by looking at these statistics, our film should make at least an estimate of
£30,000,000 worldwide. Our film would be distributed to cinemas both in 2D and 3D. It will be
advertised via TV and through magazines. Our film is a thriller genre film, therefore the time in
which we will realise it will depend on the time of year, most likely to be during November as
that I when other horror/Thriller films tend to be realised due to Halloween season.
However as we a low budgeted film maker, the findings for the films distribution will come
through independent agencies that will advertise the film on social media to create a buzz for
the realise, once the buzz and publicity is generated we shall then realise the film online as
this will be cheaper and will stay within our budgeted limit.
Looking back on our research, we realised that most thriller films such
as the sixth sense and inception tend to be targeted at male viewers
around he age of 23/24+, this happened to be a growing trend as
majority of thriller films were targeted at the same age group, to add
on to our research we conducted a questionnaire to see if people will
be interested in our film, the results showed that individuals over 18
will watch this film rather than a younger age group. By finding out his
research we wanted to find out more about our audience therefore we
conducted more narrow research on that age group to se what their
interests are which we then can implement within our film opening, one
of the way we did this is by having the female lead wear a top from a
popular shop that the target audience shop at which is H&M, we hope
that by noticing this it can each out to them and also bring in a lot more
buys for the film.
