Fast five
1. Fast Five (alternatively known as Fast & Furious 5 or Fast & Furious 5:
Rio Heist) is a 2011 American action/crime/thriller film written by
Chris Morgan and directed by Justin Lin. It is the fifth instalment in
the Fast and the Furious film series. It was released first in Australia
on April 20, 2011, and then in the United States on April 29, 2011.
2. There is a head and shoulder shot used as the first image of the
opening sequence, this is also where one of the main characters
is introduced. The significance of this shot is to see the body
language and placement of the individual. Within this shot we
can see the back ground clearly of what seems to be a prison.
There is also a two shot included which again introduces
another pair of main characters. The two shot tells us that there is
a connection between the two individuals. A mid shot is used in
the second scene of the opening, is used to show one of the
main characters movements but in this case he is shows as
being handcuffed and walking with other prisoner this gives the
impression that he did something previously which got him in this
situation. There is a long shot of the bus with three race cars
behind it giving us the impression that something is about to
happen. The low angle shot of the main female character in the
car shows us that she is dominant and is a courageous person as
she is very focused into what she is doing.
3. When he opening starts there is dialogue from a judge saying
“Dominic Torreto, you are hear by sentence to 25 years...” the
dialogue immediately tells us that the main character has done
something previously that has got him in this situation, we don't
know what he did but it should come out and is a good way of
fishing in the audience. Behind the dialogue there is also non
diegetic music playing in the background which adds emotion to
this opening, the music is soft and melodic which may give the
audience the impression that what he did to get himself into prison
was not done by him knowingly. As the scene changes the music
also changes into something fast paced this get the audience
attention and gets them in the mood or the film. The car rev noise
in the background before the cars are even shown on the shot is
used because it can bring in the audience and make them
wonder onto what is going to happen it also reassures the name of
the title “Fast Five”
4. There is an action match used in the car and coach scene. This
shows continuity of the scene and keeps everything fast paced.
By doing the action match at a fast pace links in to the title of
the film “fast Five” and it reassures the audience that this film will
be fast paced. There is a jump cut between a man and the car
and coach scene which shows what is going inside the car
where the man is and what's going on outside. This is sued to
show a parallel between the two sides and to show a wider span
of the scene.
5. The first scene included the main character wearing prisoner
clothes which are bright orange, the costume shows us that he has
done something bad in order to have got himself in this place and
also the bright orange is a famous colour used in most racing cars.
In the opening scene there are props used and they are three
racing cars which are all black to show a connection between the
two and is also a big factor for this film as seen on the title. The
setting of the opening switched from a prison to a empty road in a
desert. The two setting are a comparison as a prison has many
inmates but the desert has not got anything on it, it is also a way in
which the empty desert is used to show that the prisoners in general
have nothing left.
