2. Question 1… In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge the forms & conventions of real media products? My media product uses conventions of real media products, due to the Masthead being at the top of the magazine. I also have a left third, a main cover image and a dateline which all real media products have. However, I have developed my skills of standard by having two kicker with explanatory text underneath it as well as a main kicker and explanatory text on the right hand side of the magazine. In conclusion, I think that a barcode is not necessary for a school magazine as these types of magazines are sold at school and attract students at college age.
3. Question 2… How does your media product represent particular social groups? My media product represents a particular social group, which is students from the age of 16 to 18 years. We can tell by this, due to the image of Melissa at the front. I have made Melissa face sideward and look happy while carrying folders and books to relate to the connotation of school and education. It also represents students as the Masthead is relevant for them, as students want to ‘Aim High’ and achieve their goals in the future. In comparison to this, the topic on the kicker are also relevant for students as it’s simple and basic for them.
4. Question 3… What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? The kind of media institution that I might distribute my media product will either by in a sixth form college or school. It will be for both boys and girls, in all performing schools as I believe this magazine is for all students no mater how specialised or non-specialised their school is. I think this will be published by both teachers and students, as I believe that by having a student publishing this, it can help as you are giving information from a students point of view which will help many students. Also, by having a teacher publish this, the teacher may help in order to create articles about the different topics published in the magazine.
5. Question 4… Who is the audience for your media product? (the target market)? The target market for my media product will be students, both male and female between the ages of 16-18 years. I have chosen this age range as I believe students these ages need some information about what they want to do in the future and how they can achieve their goals.
6. Question 5… How did you attract/address your audience? I attracted my audience by using clear and simple language on the front of the magazine. I have used direct language in one of my kickers ‘This will strengthen your mind in the near.’ By using the word ‘your’ I am addressing the students specifically. I have also used indirect language in my next kicker and the main kicker and explanatory text. I have done this so then it applies to everyone. I have also made the text exclusive so then it only applies and attracts a certain group whereas I also have inclusive text where this addresses everyone. I also attracted my audience by having a picture of a student at the front of the magazine to show that this magazine is all about them and no one else. I have also attracted the audience by having only at least three colours so then it will catch their eye when they are looking at this.
7. Question 6… In the process of constructing this product, what have you learnt about the technologies employed? I have learnt many things when I constructed this product. I learnt how to used the ‘Spot Healing Tool’ on Adobe Photoshop as well as using different layers for different filters. I learnt how to clone images by using the ‘Clone Tool.’ Furthermore, the important tool which I used was the ‘Magnetic Lasso Tool’ which helped me get rid of my shadow of Melissa. Also, I learnt how to change eye colour as well as hair colour. Lastly I learnt how to import pictures, slideshows onto my Media blog by using: slideshare.net. Slideshare.net helped me to import my pictures and slideshows to make my Media blog more interesting and eye-catching to look at.
