This document evaluates a college magazine media product. It summarizes how the magazine uses conventions of real magazines through consistent fonts and pictures. The magazine represents young people aged 16-18 attending Richmond College in a positive light. The target audiences are students, teachers, and parents interested in the college. The magazine attracted its audience through a focused picture, consistent fonts and colors, and directly addressing the reader. Creating the magazine taught the author to use photography, Photoshop, and apply evaluation skills from reviewing other magazines.
2. In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
My media product uses the same basic conventions of a college magazine,
it uses such things as consistent fonts to show professionalism and a
picture to attract students who are from or willing to go to college.
3. How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
My media product represents young people, from 16-18 years, positively
and willing to learn in a good learning and working environment. This
product will show Richmond College in a positive light.
4. What type of media institution might
distribute your media product and
why?
A media institution that may distribute my media product may be a college
or magazine company where it would be used for retail, but it is more
likely to be free as the college would be less likely to make a profit.
5. Who would the audience be for your
media product?
My audience would be students and young adults from 15-18 years of age,
who are interested in attending Richmond College or gaining information
as a current pupil who wants to get more information from their own
college. The audience would also be the teachers, who would want to
advertise events – whether they are sporting or academic – to the students
and to the parents who may want to attend.
6. How did you attract/address your
audience?
I attracted my audience by using a focused picture, constant fonts and a
basic colour scheme, with additional information about the college. The
audience was addressed by my media product directly, using such words
as ‘you’ and ‘our’.
7. What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
I have learnt how to use a camera, and choose different effects and
techniques including focus. We have used different computer systems such
as Photoshop, in which the effects used are usually editing tools. I have
learnt how to use Photoshop in the process, which will come in useful
during different media projects.
8. Looking back at your preliminary task,
what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?
I have learnt during the process of this task to use my evaluation and
critical thinking of several different college magazines to create my own,
which is of good quality and good standard. During the progression of my
product, I learnt how to use unfamiliar software to create my magazine.
