1. 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
From my research, I think that I haven't challenged other conventions as I added my own
thing to my magazine cover and used my own ideas. I've done this by using my own colour
scheme, getting my own pictures and making my own masthead, contents page, coverlines,
etc. From research that I have done from other student magazines, I saw in the cover image a
girl smiling, the mis en scene usually had books, globes, etc. I think this was very useful as I
was able to know what should go on the front cover and I also learnt how the layout of the
cover should look. I think I have adjusted my pictures so that it relates to what a student
magazine should be. It also relates to students as a whole.
2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My front cover image is of two girls holding revision books and smiling. This represents that
the target audience is for students. This represents that the students are happy and smiling
which represents happiness as the students look interested in their books which could
represent that they are revising and are enjoying it. They are young, which will draw in young
readers.
3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
The institution that I would want my magazine to go through is the college as they are my
target audience. I think that it will be easier to distribute as the students could easily pick it up
by the reception as soon as they enter the college.
4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience will be students ranging from the ages 16 - 18 or over. It also relates to the
diversity of the college and its students from, religion to race, etc.
5. How did you attract/address your audience?
I attracted my target audience through the coverlines that were on my front cover page as
they reflect on student life, my main coverline "How to get your target grade” and how that
links to education in college. I used a large font size on my major coverline so that it is
known that it is the main one so that the audience know what to expect in the magazine. The
Masthead I used, "College Life" makes it clear to the audience what it is about. I thought
that the colours I used, "Red&Blue"throughout because I wanted to keep it consistent and
neat.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this
product?
Because this is my first time doing media, I found it hard to get to grips with the programmes.
I've used PhotoShop and InDesign. I made my magazine cover on PhotoShop and found it
hard at first with some aspects to it, but then found it easier as the weeks went by. I used
InDesign when making my contents page and again found it hard. I used it to layer and
construct my contents page and was able to finish it.
2. 7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do u feel you have learnt in the
progression fromit to the full product?
Looking back, I have improved on my research and know exactly what i have to research and
know the information that I should take from it. I think the challenges that I will face when
making my music magazine will be in my double page spread and how the article will link to
the genre that I have decided to do.
