Evaluation - Question 4
How did you use media technologies in the
construction, research and planning and evaluation
stages?
Google - I used google numerous times for my research,
for example, looking at existing media products including
their websites and images. I put the ones that interested
me the most into my viewed list, to show my development
as well as establishing my codes and conventions which
would help the outcome of my production. Using Google
allowed me to quickly access copies so I could discover
the typical conventions of similar magazines to mine.
Without Google he process would’ve taken far longer, as I
would need physical copies otherwise, it also gave me a
wide range and a lot of options to look through.
Issuu - Issuu also helped with my research as sometimes
the contents of the regional magazines were find to find.
By using this I had access to hundreds of regional
magazines and could flick through page by page allowing
me to see the whole magazine instead of just the front
cover.
Blogger - Bloger is the platform I have used to present my
work. This was simplistic and had a convenience factor as I
could access it from wherever I needed too and could access
it from my phone and laptop. The layout of Blogger is also an
advantage as it shows the progression of my production as
more relevant posts are added. Using this saved both money
and time as to physical copies would’ve taken far longer to
prepare. The labels tool was useful in keeping my blog easy
to navigate and find what I needed.
Wix - I used the website Wix to create my own website for
my magazine. I looked at other websites such as weebly.com
however they seemed a lot more complicated and harder to
use then wix. Although Wix still took a while to get the hang
of, after researching and watching a few tutorials it was an
easy way to make an effective website. It had templates
which I then edited and customised. I could also add
hyperlinks easily to link pages and make navigation around
the website easier.
Camera - In order to get the best possible images. I used the
camera 600D. I found this camera to be particularly good for the
quality of the images and was very quick and simple to use.
Using this camera also allowed me to transfer all photos to my
computer as the SD card input was available. Without using this
camera the process of taking photos would’ve been far longer,
with potentially less quality images as the outcome therefore it
greatly benefitted me when attempting to match real media
products.
Photoshop - I used adobe photoshop to manipulate and design
my pages for my magazine including all edits to images, such as
contrast, brightness and text. Using photoshop was effective as it
gave me multiple tools to use to create the best possible outcome
all within the one program and I didn't have to switch between
different ones making the process quicker. Without it I would have
had to potentially use a less established editing site, resulting in a
poor quality product.
Facebook - Social media was a big part of my
production as it allowed me to easily communicate
with my focus group, especially through facebook
messenger. It allowed me to have quick responses
and I could speak to them in one group, when asking
for opinions on my productions. People's facebook
profiles allow me to look at their age and interests,
which made it easier for me to pick the people that fit
within my chosen target audience.
YouTube - I used youtube to watch tutorials
concerning any issues I had with photoshop and wix
and any problems that I faced. The information
provided as well as seeing a video helped me to
understand the basics of the programmes I was
using when I first started, and then helped me to edit
my photos to a more professional standard.

  • 1. Evaluation - Question 4 How did you use media technologies in the construction, research and planning and evaluation stages?
  • 2. Google - I used google numerous times for my research, for example, looking at existing media products including their websites and images. I put the ones that interested me the most into my viewed list, to show my development as well as establishing my codes and conventions which would help the outcome of my production. Using Google allowed me to quickly access copies so I could discover the typical conventions of similar magazines to mine. Without Google he process would’ve taken far longer, as I would need physical copies otherwise, it also gave me a wide range and a lot of options to look through. Issuu - Issuu also helped with my research as sometimes the contents of the regional magazines were find to find. By using this I had access to hundreds of regional magazines and could flick through page by page allowing me to see the whole magazine instead of just the front cover.
  • 3. Blogger - Bloger is the platform I have used to present my work. This was simplistic and had a convenience factor as I could access it from wherever I needed too and could access it from my phone and laptop. The layout of Blogger is also an advantage as it shows the progression of my production as more relevant posts are added. Using this saved both money and time as to physical copies would’ve taken far longer to prepare. The labels tool was useful in keeping my blog easy to navigate and find what I needed. Wix - I used the website Wix to create my own website for my magazine. I looked at other websites such as weebly.com however they seemed a lot more complicated and harder to use then wix. Although Wix still took a while to get the hang of, after researching and watching a few tutorials it was an easy way to make an effective website. It had templates which I then edited and customised. I could also add hyperlinks easily to link pages and make navigation around the website easier.
  • 4. Camera - In order to get the best possible images. I used the camera 600D. I found this camera to be particularly good for the quality of the images and was very quick and simple to use. Using this camera also allowed me to transfer all photos to my computer as the SD card input was available. Without using this camera the process of taking photos would’ve been far longer, with potentially less quality images as the outcome therefore it greatly benefitted me when attempting to match real media products. Photoshop - I used adobe photoshop to manipulate and design my pages for my magazine including all edits to images, such as contrast, brightness and text. Using photoshop was effective as it gave me multiple tools to use to create the best possible outcome all within the one program and I didn't have to switch between different ones making the process quicker. Without it I would have had to potentially use a less established editing site, resulting in a poor quality product.
  • 5. Facebook - Social media was a big part of my production as it allowed me to easily communicate with my focus group, especially through facebook messenger. It allowed me to have quick responses and I could speak to them in one group, when asking for opinions on my productions. People's facebook profiles allow me to look at their age and interests, which made it easier for me to pick the people that fit within my chosen target audience. YouTube - I used youtube to watch tutorials concerning any issues I had with photoshop and wix and any problems that I faced. The information provided as well as seeing a video helped me to understand the basics of the programmes I was using when I first started, and then helped me to edit my photos to a more professional standard.
