- European Schoolnet is a network of 31 European Ministries of Education, based in Brussels, Belgium. They aim to bring innovation in teaching and learning to their key stakeholders: Ministries of Education in Europe, schools, teachers, researchers, and industry partners. EUN provides a wide range of digital resources and services to their networks. One of key services is the Learning Resource Exchange (LRE) which enables European primary and secondary school teachers to find quality Open Educational Resources (OERs) from many different countries and providers. 339,000+ OERs that travel well, 70 content providers Catalogue of Quality OERs for K-12 Education in Europe As a first step, EUN identified subsets of Europeana Collections that have both an educational value and the potential to travel well across national, cultural and linguistic boundaries so that they can usefully complement the national resources already offered by Ministries of Education. Next, they prepared the necessary API queries, mapped the metadata, and performed further filtering, curation and enrichment of the metadata with pedagogically specific metadata. Travel well criteria include: transnational topics, knowledge of specific language is not needed, methodological support for teachers is not needed, intuitive and easy to use, interactivity (resources require some user input/engagement), open licenses

- European Digital Museum for Science and Technology, organised in 6 virtual exhibitions and 40 virtual tours on various topics It is a collaborative online platform developed by Foundation for the History of Technology that connects the digital collections of over 13 cultural and science heritage partners from across Europe, including Europeana, with the research results from about 300 scholars from Europe and North America who are active in the Tensions of Europe Research Network.
- “What’s like this?” section, which retrieves relevant digital sources supporting the respective story topic. The functionality displays relevant results form the Europeana Collections and shows the respective API query which can be further adapted (for the curious minds). It includes an integrated popup that shows extensive metadata, social media, as well as large images and has the option to play audio and video. Furthermore, the functionality received an update of the API technology and was extended with a new filter and search mechanism that suits teachers’ needs. Example 1: Find out about Thomas Edison (US) and the British Joseph Swan who independently invented light bulbs that had commercial potential. After a short period of disputes they started a transatlantic company Ediswan. Through the Europeana results, you can find out about other important scientists in this area, such as the Swedish engineer Gustaf de Lavale.
