Should European universities enter the MOOC competition. We present the 7 different reasons to say yes. It is up to the HEI to define their strategy.
The decision is a strategic one, to be taken, at the highest level of the institution.

This paper presents concepts and experiences on integrating MOOCS into traditional higher education in Romania. Three study cases on integrating MOOCs in courses at undergraduate and Master level present and discuss the opportunities in different pedagogical concepts as flipped classroom. These activities require the acquisition of new skills by students and teachers. Advantages and limitations on using this educational model from concepts to management and technology indicate the challenges that lay ahead of educators who are willing to include MOOCs in their everyday teaching activities.

Combining openness and scalability, MOOCs have been spearheading the dramatic expansion of online education in recent years. However, very different pedagogical approaches can be found in this new form of education delivery. Apart from the more typical xMOOC model and the original connectivist cMOOC alternative pedagogical approaches have been developing in Europe, pioneered by the iMOOC model. In this workshop we will analyze the theoretical foundations and principles of MOOC design and explore the different pedagogies being mostly used in these courses.

Asthma is a lung disorder that interferes with breathing. It can appear at any age, but it typically develops during childhood. Those most at risk include people with allergies or a family history of asthma.About 1.4 million patients visit a hospital outpatient department for asthma; almost 1.75 million go to a hospital emergency room. Many people with asthma manage the condition well and can live a healthy and productive life by avoiding triggers and following their allergists’ instructions. If left unmanaged or misdiagnosed, asthma can be fatal; about 3,300 people die from it annually.

With the rapid development of information technologies and the spread of the Internet, universities have been able to extend their learning environments using technology all over their campuses. Numerous universities have implemented OpenCourseWare (OCW) initiatives and OER(Open Educational Resources) development to share their learning materials on the web. In addition, some universities provide free Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) with large-scale interactive participation and open access on the Internet. This keynote evaluates the status of the Open Education movement and its dissemination in higher education. It reviews the growth of MOOC movement, activities of MOOC providers and consortiums, introduction MOOC to university education as well as the possible impact on higher education. In addition, this keynote introduces current open educational practices in Hokkaido region, utilizing OER across campuses to improve student outcomes.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

EUNIS position
E-learning Task force meeting, Lausanne May 2013:
EUNIS has a keen interest in these developments but remains
skeptical about the fact that much current MOOC activity is US-
centric with its roots firmly in the commercial sector that is
currently underwriting much of the development activity. There
are also contrasting pedagogic models being labeled under the
same banner. Europe needs to analyze the lessons learned from
these developments and look at how best to apply them to
improve the educational experience in a diverse range of
educational contexts.
27. Y. Epelboin UPMC-Sorbonne Universités EUNIS Helsinki April 3-5 2014
EUNIS position
EUNIS sees opportunities to improve pedagogic practice by
incorporating more online learning (especially effectively
designed peer interactions) in traditional courses. There are
also some opportunities for widening participation bearing in
mind the digital literacy (and indeed cultural attitudes to
learning) required by students before they can become
effective learners in this type of context.
