Sierra Leone, A Country Most Notoriously Known For Its...
Sierra Leone is a country most notoriously known for its humanitarian problems associated with
conflict diamonds. These luxury items have caused numerous individuals residing in the third
world country to lose their lives or lose the ability to live a fruitful life. In addition to their
humanitarian issues, they are also plagued by issues of bad governance. Their recent civil war that
took place during most of the 1990s had tainted the citizens views on what an effective government
could do. To complicate matters further, there was also a recent disastrous Ebola outbreak that not
only harmed the residents in great numbers, but also the already hindered economy. Their economy,
heavily instilled in agrarian and natural resource roots, is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was enacted for the 54 members in 2003 when all the certification and legislation parameters
were formed based on a consensus of the General Assembly (Kimberley Process Certification
Scheme Core Document). These 54 members are now responsible for a vast majority of the
diamonds legally traded worldwide and ensure that the basis for these diamonds do not infringe
upon basic human rights ( KB Basis Kimberley Process). People are not allowed to openly trade
diamonds that have a conflict source in an attempt to reduce violations of humanitarian rights.
The World Bank is overseeing a request for the The Emergency Economic and Fiscal Support
Operation to the Republic of Sierra Leone (Projects: Sierra Leone. World Bank). The
Government of Sierra Leone has requested the sum of thirty million dollars to help reduce the
economic effects of the recent Ebola outbreak. The funds are to be allocated to social
infrastructure and to support the quality of life and opportunities presented to people of both
genders (Projects: Sierra Leone. World Bank). This is a necessity in Sierra Leone as repression is
what drove their recent civil war.
The United Nations Environmental Program has been in Sierra Leone to address the
environmental consequences of the recent eleven year civil war. The main goals of the
Environmental Program are outlined in Programme 21. The program aimed at the low level of
fertile land currently available in Sierra Leone and how to remedy the situation

Response To Forgiveness Essay
Response to Topic 1 The claims made by the objections have some good points made such that
resentment is problematic and it should naturally dissipate when forgiveness is in order. However,
through further analysis on the subject matter as well as comparison between the contemporary
philosophers and Confucian ideas, one can see the truth behind resentment and forgiveness.
According to Murphy, resentment refers to first personal response, which is a diminished feeling
when one s self worth has been insulted. For example, when frauder took away one s hard earned
money, one feels as if one was picked by the offender because one, among all the rest, is least
deserving of the money. This first personal response is of equal sense to the protection ... Show

However, the act of forgiving others is inevitably the overcoming of resentment, to say forgiveness
is not a virtue, is to reject the notion of achieving the overcoming of resentment. Forgiveness is a
virtue, it is one step further than switching the aim of resentment, with the focus on self. One of the
Confucian idea is to wang (еї ), which is a term describing what happens when your focus of
attention is lifted from certain attributes as if one has forgotten about it, but can still be able to
recall such incidence when asked. In the fraud example, forgiving is to wang the injury made by
the offender and have our limited attention on other more important things in life. This is not to
say that one has forgotten about the incidence, one can still describe the details of how the injury
was made, but that one is no longer affected emotionally by the offender. Forgiveness is a virtue
since it is not something that most people can accomplish and it encompasses a good moral as
well as transcend like characteristic that all should view as a goal to

Police Corruption
Police Corruption: A Perspective View Into the
Definition, Cause, Harm
Randy Botelho

Thesis Statement
Corruption in law enforcement is not victimless and creates a negative perception of the United
States legal system.
Introduction
There are few professions in the United States that are entrusted with protecting society s safety and
system of laws that have been established throughout the course of American history. One of those
professions is that of a police officer. It is an admirable calling for an individual to deal with
criminals and place themselves in harm s way on a daily basis. It is certainly not a job that can be
done by everyone and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may appear at first glance to be a matter of such a fundamental nature as not to deserve
specific mention in an agency policy. Certainly, police officers are as subject to the law as any
other person. But reality dictates and history has shown that some officers, whether through
misguided zeal or for other reasons, may come to view themselves and their police colleagues as
exempt from the law on a general, selective, or situational basis. This element of the policy is
intended to stress the importance of the rule of law for all officers and to hold each officer
accountable for any legal wrongdoing. (para. 4)
When police officers choose a path that is immoral or unethical, they are labeled as being
corrupt. The media can play a significant role in the public s opinion of police officers and this
idea was supported by Gallagher, Maguire, Mastrofski, and Reisig in a 2001 report on the public
image of police when they stated In the final analysis, it is not unreasonable to suppose that
people exposed to negative mass media images will have lower evaluations of the police (p. 37).
There is a lack of state and federal laws that specifically address police corruption as a whole and
Neild (2007) addressed this by saying It is important that national laws and institutional norms
governing policing address issues of corruption explicitly, and make it clear that

Analysis Of Mordecai Richler s The
Response Barney s Version Excerpt
In this excerpt, Mordecai Richler does an excellent job mixing both showing and telling. He is able
to skim over large periods of time without leaving the reader with questions, and gives just enough
detail that the audience is able to understand past events. Richler gives a great amount of detail
about one particular incident that enhances the essence of the event and contrasts with the last few
sentences. The small conversation that Richler added gives the reader a greater respect for what
Leo accomplished, and by contrast, demonstrates the great misjudgement the narrator made.
Overall, Richler does an excellent job of balancing showing and telling, and does so in an effective
manner that helps the audience gain insight into the situation through the use of contrast.

The Financial Crisis Of 2007-2008
An excess of regulation, rather than an insufficiency of it, was the principal cause of the recent
credit crunch. The financial crisis of 2007 2008, also known as the Global Financial Crisis and
2008 financial crisis, is considered by some economists such as Nouriel Roubini, professor of
economics and international business at New York University, Kenneth Rogoff, professor of
economics and public policy at Harvard University, and Nariman Behravesh, chief economist
and executive vice president for IHS Global Insight, to have been the worst financial crisis since
the Great Depression of the 1930s. All of them agreed that this is a one in fifty years event ,
however the latest Great Recession is not a typical cyclical recession of the World Economy and
no doubt will last for more that usual two years (Business Wire, Reuters). The crisis played a
significant role in the failure of key businesses, declines in consumer wealth estimated in trillions
of U.S. dollars, and a downturn in economic activity leading to the 2008 2012 global recession
and contributing to the European sovereign debt crisis. (M. N. Baily, D. J. Elliott, 2009). So what
are the cР°uses of this crisis? MР°ny factors dirРµctly and indirectly caused the Great Recession,
with expРµrts plР°cing different weights upon pР°rticular causes. Major cР°uses of the initial sub

Summary Of Warrior Ethos
According to the author, Shannon E. French, it s important for troops to learn the true meaning
of a warrior ethos in order for them to differentiate themselves between a warrior and a murder in
order to ensure that they can return back home with self respect rather than guilt. Learning the
true meaning of a warrior s ethos is important because it sets definite limits on what a solder can
and cannot do in order to remain a warrior and not become a warrior during war. A warrior s ethos,
according to French, consists of militaryvalues and only they can set themselves aside from
murders by accepting a set of rules governing when and how to kill and should a solder/warrior not
accept these sets of rules mandated by their society, they can become... Show more content on

However, throughout this article the author did point out that it is hard for a warrior to not
cross the thin line especially, when they are fighting against those who have already crossed the
line themselves; warriors will find themselves in the battlefield matched with terrorist who calls
themselves freedom fighters and are willing to die without even fully being aware of the true
meaning of war or even a warrior s ethos; a warrior/solider should always keep in mind the spirit
of the constitution they have sworn to uphold and defend. Another issue brought up by the author
was that in this new modern era, it has become hard for solders/warriors to keep in touch with
the reality due to the new technology which is making it easier for solders/warriors to vanish
targets from screens and forget that the targets disappearing are actually real people. It s important
for a warrior to keep all of these things in mind so that when the war is over and it s time for them
to return home, they can return as warriors and have lives that will remain worth

also mentions dysfunctional clinics that provide health care that isn t regulated, or up to the

the residents of this neighborhood? With this many social service agencies at their disposable
who is to blame for the lack of service provided, and their poor quality of life? I would imagine that
the social workers in these agencies are following the code of ethics of The National Association of

America s Treatment Of The Elderly
There is a perceived notion that Eastern societies view aging in a positive aspect, while Western
societies view aging in a negative light. Although there is much emphasis on respect for elders on
the Confucian societies, however, does East Asia s treatment of the Elderly really differ from North
America s treatment? In the Perceptions of Agingin Two cultures: Korean and American views on
Old Age, the authors are able to prove their thesis that through previous studies by Harwood et al
that countries such as South Korea, Philippines and Hong Kong do not necessarily hold positive
views on of old age. In this study, to better understand beliefs and perceptions of aging, Koreans
were expected to have a greater fear of old people, worry more about their physical appearance, and
show greater levels of anxiety over aging more than their American counter parts. Although
American women were expected to show more anxiety towards their physical appearance more than
their male counterparts. Such perceptions on older people have an effect on the mental, physical
and emotional health of elderly people. The many negative stereotypes about seniors affect how
seniors see themselves and how society views them. These stereotypes are usually regarding their
physical and cognitive abilities . Although these stereotypes may seem harmless, they hold serious
ramifications to which affects the elderly participation in activities which may improve their
physical or cognitive abilities. These

Louis C. Tiffany established his own firm in 1885 and his focus was on new methods of glass
manufacture. Although Louis Comfort Tiffany s company is best known by the name of
Tiffany Studios, his vast creative enterprise operated under various names through the years. (
Tiffany Studios ). Among these names are Tiffany Glass Company, Tiffany Glass and
Decorating Company, Allied Arts and the most recognizable, Tiffany Studios. Tiffany wanted to
transform and transcend the skills of Medieval stained glass producers. In 1881, Tiffany
registered a patent for opalescent window glass. This new treatment was accomplished by
combing and manipulating several colors to created a range of hues and dimensional effects.
Tiffany believed that this new method allowed for more nature in the medium because it
enabled the light to transform the glass rather than painting on the glass. Tiffany believed that
nature should be the primary focus of artwork, fitting within the Art Nouveau style. This way of
creating the art allowed nature to play a key part in the artwork through light. Tiffany s stained
glass windows were displayed in a number of different buildings ranging from chapels, to
homes, to even the White House. In addition to his famous stained glass, Tiffany was also
known for his Favrile , blown glass vases and bowls. These glass pieces quickly became
celebrated worldwide for its iridescence and magnificent colors. Tiffany had a number of his
pieces displayed around the world, including being sold in galleries such as Siegried Bing s L Art

Exposition of 1893. Visitors entered another world of intricate, reflective glass mosaic surfaces and
light filtered through the intense colors of stained glass windows a world that enveloped them and
at the same time dwarfed them through its massive architectural forms. (Louis

How Did Roman Civilization Impact The World
What civilization was the greatest of all time and had the most impact on the world? The
Roman civilization of course. The people in Rome got involved in many ways during the time
of 27 BC to 476 AD. While there were many ways to get involved in the Roman Empire the three
most important ways were military, sports, and architecture. The Romans had many great
techniques and ways to take down their opponents, they would train boys so they could be great
warriors when they got older (Baker Baker, 1998). The Romans played many sports to entertain
and to get involved in one of those sports being chariot racing, this sport consisted of at least two
people on a horse and carriage running around a track. This sport attracted a lot of spectators
because sometimes there would be cheating against the rules but they weren t that strict. The
Romans had the greatest architecture of all time and they are the main reason our architecture is so
advanced today, they had great domes and the Romans created the arch which is used all over the

adequately covered by big city newspapers such as the The Philadelphia Inquirer, Pittsburgh

Sheen has invested in creating the profile section.
As before, Sheen forecast demand for the following day s newspapers every evening based on the
quality of the profile section, and used her demand forecast to determine her stocking quantity.

The Truth And Reconciliation Commission ( Trc )
Introduction
Between the years of 1870 and 1996, more than 150,000 indigenous children were forcibly removed
from their communities, and sent to Indian residential schools. Generation after generation of
indigenous children were denied the right to speak their own language, explore spirituality and to
learn about their rich cultural history. These schools were designed to assimilate indigenous
children into the society of the European settlers. It was under that system that Aboriginal children
were required to attend schools that would take the Indian out of the child, in hopes to solve the
Indian problem .
On June 2nd, 2008, nearly 20 years after the last residential school closed, The Truth and
Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was formed in response to the legacy left behind by the Indian
residential school system. The TRC is not a government appointed commission that was created to
negotiate legal counsel for surviving students, involved churches, the Assembly of First Nations, as
well as the Canadian government. However, the main objective was to allow victims of the
schools to be acknowledge, have their stories shared, and be accepted.
Residential School History
Assimilation was the goal of European settlers, even before confederation in 1867. In 1857, the
Gradual Civilization Act was passed by the Legislature of the Province of Canada with the aim of
assimilating First Nations people. Through out Canadian history, non aboriginals have gained

Impact of Hypoxia on the Way We Exercise
Intro Introduction A number of environmental conditions can impact the way we exercise.
Environmental elements can have a huge impact on the performance of exercise, especially
during prolonged submaximal exercise (Hayashi et al, 2005). For example, in situations where
hypoxia is an issue, they can have a detrimental impact on the physiology of aerobic organisms,
including humans. Hypoxia can occur in a number of environmental situations and has a variety of
effects on aerobic organisms. It is essentially the situation where the air has a reduction in the
oxygen content, which can have an obvious detrimental impact on human and animals in
situations where exercise would require more oxygen in the air (Fan et al., 2008). Hypoxia has a
serious impact on the physiology of the human body and its wide variety of functioning. A study
conducted by Fan et al. (2008) illustrated that hypoxia can even have an impact on antioxidant
enzymes and glutathione, showing its potential to negatively affect humans, both as they exercise
and as they are at rest. Still, the relationship between the presence of hypoxia and what it does to
the human body in physiological terms is not as well understood as many scientists in the field
with hope. The purpose of this current research is to further explore hypoxia s impact on the human
body during bouts of submaximal exercise. This study uses an experiment to empirically test and
evaluate the impact of hypoxia on this type of exercise. Thus, the

experienced yet. However, many of these rap protest records are not without cause. An anthem of
anger for blacks growing up in the streets of Compton and Los Angeles, N.W.A. released a song
in which they took part in a fictional trial against the L.A.P.D ( N.W.A. ). The song highlights
offenses of brutality among police to the minorities living in such areas. By addressing a relevant
and scary issue at the time, its lyrics ignited victims of such heinous crimes. In turn, it called for a ...

Why Is Catcher In The Rye Banned
The reasons to challenge these books are varied. The most common reason to challenge or ban a
book is because of its sexual content. The Catcher in the Rye is one such book that has been
challenged constantly because of its sexual content. It was challenged in Goffstown, New
Hampshire school in 1994 because of its sexual exploits. It was removed and then later reinstated
at Windsor Forest High School in Savannah, Georgia (2000) when in 1999, a parent complained
about the sex and violence in the book. It was also removed in Summerville, South Carolina
because a school board member said it was a filthy, filthy book.
Another reason books are challenged are because of their racial themes. To Kill a Mockingbird has

In a democracy, one is promised the freedom of speech, and any censorship of speech or
literature goes against that. Even as school boards and parents take to the court to ban books
from school libraries, in most cases, books and materials are not allowed to be censored.
However, it has been noted that there are books that might be too dangerous to be in print. One
such example of this that has been highly controversial through the years is the book, The
Anarchist Cookbook that was published in 1971 by William Powell in response to the Vietnam
war. In the book, Powell details instructions to manufacture explosives, illegal drugs and more
sinister objects. The purpose of the book is obviously to harm people and disrupt society. The
book was published freely until 1991, and then most recently again published in 2012, and it has
been documented to be the source for many different attacks. In 1976, the book was supposed to
have inspired Croatian Nationalists to hijack a plane and plant explosive devices at Grand
Central Station. It was also linked to the Oklahoma bombing and the Columbine high school
shooting. Even as recently as 2013, Karl Pierson, a high shooter in Colorado is said to have been
reading the book. Many users have posted updated versions of the book on the internet as well. In
light of such evidence, one must reexamine the idea of censorship more closely. While the idea of

The General Adaption Syndrome
The general adaption syndrome or sometimes referred to as GAS is a collection of symptoms of
a stress disease named by Hans Selye in the 1930s. GAS is defined as sequenced physiological
responses to the presence of a stressor, involving the alarm, resistance, and exhaustion stages of the
stress response. GAS is a three stage process that describes the physiological changes that the body
goes through when stressed. These stages are alarm, resistance, and exhaustion. The alarm stage is
involuntary and the changes are controlled by the hormonal and nervous system. Once you are
exposed to an event that is threatening or dangerous, the body immediately prepares for difficulty.
The hormones and nerves trigger the fight or flight response. Your

Axis of Symmetry Axis of symmetry is a line going through a graph that separates the parabola into
two.
The axis of symmetry ia a vertical line through the vertex of the functions graph. The quadratic
function has the axis of symmetry x=h
Example
Every parabola has an axis of symmetry, the line that runs down its center. The line divides the
graph into two perfect halves. In the picture the axis of symmetry is line x=1 Vertex
If a parabola opens upward, it has a lowest point. If a parabola opens downward, it has a highest
point. This lowest or highest point is called the Vertex of a parabola
The standard equation of a parabola is
But the equation for a parabola can also be written in vertex form
Example:
Find the vertex of the parabola.
y = 3x2 + 12x 12
So, the x coordinate of the vertex is:
a = 3 and b = 12.
Substituting in the original equation to get the y coordinate, we get:
y = 3( 2)2 + 12( 2) 12 = 24
So, the vertex of the parabola is at ( 2, 24).

The Short Story Of Richard Van Camp
A tragedy in its own right must evoke emotion and a response from the audience through effective
use of several elements evident in Shakespeare s and Aristotle s style of tragic writing. The plot
progression of a tragedy should be rather specific under the idea which leads, ultimately, to the
downfall of the protagonist. Despite the sorrowful story behind Richard Van Camp s short story
Mermaids, the exclusion of several core elements from both styles of writing prevent this piece
from being classified a tragedy. Mermaids lacked the development of a tragic flaw in the main
character, Torchy, and furthermore did not lead the character to their tragic demise, Van Camp
also excluded the idea of isolating him over time and rather brought him closer to those around
him to get over his inner conflict, which is unlike a tragedy. A central character in a tragic piece
of writing should develop in a way where they are lead [ushered] to their demise due to a critical
flaw, which is caused by the inability to solve an inner conflict. Torchy was found to be at a
rather low point in his life evident by his use of drugs and his gambling issues. Despite these
vices, he does not allow it to destroy him. His relationship with the young girl, Stephanie, who
was neglected by her parents, allowed him to reflect on his past particularly after his brother s
death. [M]y daddy s gone, she says... I ll be your sister... if you ll be my brother ... I start to cry

In addition to the PSDA, in 1993, the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State
Laws approved the Uniform Health Care Decisions Act (UHCD Act), which created a basic rule
for recognizing and honoring all kind of written or oral statement as an advance directive. The
goal of UDCD act was to ensure uniformity and consistency in the implementation of advance

are still vast differences in the advance health care directive laws of the 50 states and the District

Care Surrogate Act which applies to all medical treatment decisions. The Act provides standards
for making decisions about treatment for individuals who lack decision making capacity and who

Paul makes a response to a letter from the Corinthians that pertained to various critical concerns.
Specifically, the Corinthians had a concern about human sexuality (1 Corinthians 1:1 40), (Harris,

without any kind of sexual connection. He also conveys that he wishes that all men, unmarried

Comparing A Good Man Is Hard To Find And A Good Man Is Hard
Within the short stories, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings and A Good Man is Hard to
Find there are several areas of both similarity and difference. The differences are not hard to spot
between these two stories. These stories take place in different places, have different cultures, and
are even set in different periods in history, however; if the reader looks deep enough they can see
the common foundation that both stories are built upon. The commonality within both stories
manifests comes in the form two different themes one being the coexistence of cruelty and
compassion and the other being how religion is exploited within both stories just with two vastly
different outcomes for each. To illustrate, the first point of similarity between the two stories the
reader can look to the actions of both The Misfit in A Good Man is Hard to Find and the married

A feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an
uncertain outcome. This is the definition for anxiety from a text book stand point. Someone that
has or has experienced anxiety would describe it differently. An anxiety problem can be developed
through genetics, past life events, and personality. Anxiety can be broken down into six different
branches: generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, phobia, post

These people usually realize that their fears are irrational but they can t change them because even

It is very normal for someone to have nightmares or flashbacks to something traumatic that

Sudden flashbacks or memories can cause someone to have a panic attack or cause them to become

Essay on Discovering Further Links between Language and Music
Arguably, language is the one thing that sets humans apart from animals. The capacity to share
thoughts and ideas through the spoken word allows humans to function as a group, enabling
humanity to function as an entity greater than the sum of its separate individuals. Music shares
similar properties, as it is also transmitted and perceived through sound. Both have the potential to
connect people and are innate properties of the human being. The aim of this paper is to discover
further links between the two based on empirical evidence. The main sources that will be consulted
are articles produced by Dr. Aniruddh Patel, a pioneer in the field of musicpsychology, with works
ranging from music cognition to rhythmperception.

It is widely acknowledged by linguists that British English represents stress timed language,
whereas French represents syllable timed language. To detail the exact difference between the
two, stress timed languages have equal duration between stresses, while syllable timed languages
show equal duration between syllable onsets (Patel Daniele, 2003, p. 36). With this basic piece of
background information, Patel Daniele hypothesizes that syllable timed languages have greater
variability in the duration of its vowels as opposed to syllable timed languages. Intuitively, this
makes sense since the temporal distance between syllables is smaller compared to the distance
between the various points of stresses made in speech, which can span multiple syllables and
words. This logic gave birth to the normalized Pairwise Variability Index measure of speech rhythm
or simply, nPVI.
As the term pairwise suggests, the nPVI takes the length between each pair of adjacent events in
time, and calculates how much variability there is among the various duration of vowels compared
to the average duration over the entire series of events. The main strength of the nPVI measure lies
in the fact that it is a relative measure of events that take place over time, allowing one to take an
nPVI value for both music and language and selectively measure the variability of speech rhythm
and musical rhythm within the same

these types of courses can be taken at convenience of the busy workers as well as for globally

I Interned For The Copa Shorts Film Festival Essay
I interned for the COPA shorts film festival from August to December. I was a film reviewer, and
my duties and responsibilities were to essentially review any short films that were assigned to
me, and then write a review and rate them accordingly. I would be emailed whenever a new film
was sent to me via a website called FilmFreeway. Because my internship was primarily an online
one, my schedule was flexible, which gave me the opportunity to work at my own pace, rather than
at a fixed time every week.
I was work around 4 5 (maybe more, depending on how long the film is) hours a week, reviewing
any films that came my way. Shelley, my internship supervisor, understood that I was a full time
student and made sure that I was given ample time to watch and review these films. The way the
website operated was that I would sign into my account, and all of the videos that are assigned to
me would be available for viewing. I would watch the films as many times as I felt necessary. If I
watched a film more than 4 5 times, that usually meant that I found it perplexing, and difficult to
understand.
After I am done viewing these films numerous times, I would take time to contemplate what I
wanted to say about this film. I would write down bullet points about what I wanted to say for
my review. I would then take these bullet points and attempt to write a rough draft of a cohesive
review. I would read over the draft, and skim past the film to see if there s anything I missed. I

John Locke Freedom Analysis
John Locke was one of the first philosophers out of many who protested about government not
giving the people the freedom that they deserve. As we know Locke and Hobbes are great
thinkers, however they had divergent belief in the way they see the human. Throughout Locke s
life, he had various sublime ideas which tells that the power of monarchy (Kings) and monarchs
should be limited and they should respect the rights of their citizens. Locke s implicitly refuted the
ideathat Kings rule people according to the divine right, and defended that the humanbeing should
have the natural rights. For Locke s believes people deserve freedom, though there were rules
that was implemented, it shouldn t be strict to have an order society. An example in a class,
having a terror professor will gives nervous breakdown feeling to student because of being very
strict rule. Then result, some of the students will be afraid to give their opinion freely, or some
might drop their subjects to this professor. So how can this professor produce a very organized
and productive class if his/her students were frightened by his strict rules. Unlike having a
professor who have minimize rules but got sense of humor the students will feel at ease to share
their ideas and they will be courage to pursue more their studies for better future. Locke also says
that if the monarchy or the government fails to resect people s natural rights the people are

Benefits Of Lucid Dreaming
All You Need to Know About Lucid Dreaming
Chapter 1: Overview of Lucid Dreams
Dreams have played a very crucial role to cultures through the years. The aborigines have believed
that the stories of the world very start as the realization of their dreaming. Native Americans have
believed that their dreams are doorways to the spiritual world, ways to quests and prophecies.
The concept of lucid dreaming is not something new either. Aristotle is considered to be the first
one to write about lucid dreaming; however, he did not coin a term for it. Certain Tibetan
Buddhists have been practicing dream yoga for a long time, which is something similar to lucid
dreaming.
The ultimate goal of dream yoga is to examine your consciousness and give you to a state of
constant awareness. Bulk of the principles governing the Buddhist belief is to be familiar with the
world for what it is, without illusion. A lucid dreamer is familiarized with the dream world for

What s Surprising In The Wizard Of Oz

One societal theme that this film emphasizes is the insufficiency of adulthood. While most of us
like to believe that becoming an adult gives us all the answers, it doesn t. Even in adulthood,
many of us fail tot live up to the expectations of others and ourselves. Many adults are just as
powerless as they were in their childhood. Take Auntie Em as an example. She can t do anything
to prevent Toto from being taken away. While Dorothy can t comprehend how she d let Toto be

Germany in which people believed that the Jews through scheme managed to have power and
manipulate areas of finance and politics. (127) However, what Un TГЁ Con Mussolini doesn t
show is that many fascists were Jews themselves and that Mussolini was never a complete anti
Semite devotee, for many people whom he admired and worked with were Jewish too, such as
Margherita Sarfatti, his long time mistress and propaganda manager. (Paul, C.E. Zaczek) In
addition, to further show his detestation towards Mussolini, the movie withholds that part of the
reason why the dictator implemented the anti Semitic policy of 1938, was due to the fact that
he was under pressure to please Hitler and gain Germany s support in Abyssinia.(115) The
reason as to why Zeffirelli chooses to conceal this is rather unclear, as it is a piece of evidence
that slightly lessens Mussolini s malice and shows a different side to him. However, through this
portrayal what can be held true for certain is that one of the director s main aims is to persuade the
audience of Il Duce s

Puerto Rican Beauty Standards Essay
As of recently, the media has been flooded with positive interpretations of beauty standards all
over the world. According to various sources, beauty ideals, in women especially, are socially
constructed in order to judge a person s value based on physical attractiveness; therefore, it is
highly encouraged that people pay attention to their looks and take care of themselves, in order
for others to create a positive first impression of one s character. It is no secret that beauty
standards vary from one culture to the next and it is difficult to establish a universal principle of
what is considered beautiful. Many countries ideals contrast one another and, as a result, allow for
stereotypes to emerge. This is the case between American... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is not uncommon that you ll hear Puerto Ricans refer to themselves as the mutts of the Spanish
community, this is because of the island s history. Soon after Christopher Columbus discovered the
island in 1493, it became known as the rich port for the Spanish or Puerto Rico, due to the fact that
it produced mass amounts of cattle, sugar cane, tobacco, and coffee, especially considering the
island s size. Such prosperity and wealth opened the door for the slave trade to enter the colony,
and as a result Puerto Rican bloodlines and cultures evolved not only from the Spanish, but also
from Africans, and indigenous TaГno and Carib people ( Puerto Rico History and Heritage ). In
addition, over the centuries many failed attempts where made by the French, Dutch, and English to
conquer the island which even further changed the bloodlines. Of course, as history has it, at the
end of the Spanish American war in 1898, the Treaty of Paris declared the the Spanish would
surrender Puerto Rico to the United States, therefore infiltrating American culture and beauty ideals.
One of the most charming statements ever made about Puerto Rican diversity goes as follows:
Their skins were like a rainbow of toasted wood...Some skins were very fair, as fair as his, but they
betrayed another something against the bone. Their

Desiree s Baby Essay
Gender, Race and Inequality in Desiree s Baby
Desiree s Baby is a tragic short story written by Kate Chopin. The story is about the struggle
between the main characters Armand and his wife Desiree. The relationship is torn apart after
they come to the realization that they have a quadroon baby or quarter black. Neither of them
know that either one could be the cause of the mixed baby. Armand sees this as a curse to his
family name and disowns Desiree and the baby. After Desiree and her baby are disowned by
Armand, Desiree feels she has nothing to live for. She disappears into the bayou where we can
only guess she kills herself. In the end, we learn that when Armand is burning the possessions of
Desiree and the baby he finds a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that a wealthy white couple had a quadroon child would bring disgrace to the family
name. Armand suspects Desiree is the one who is half black, which could very well be true. She
was taken in by her father Monsieur Valmonde when she was found under the shadow of a stone
pillar at the entrance to their home. Madame Valmonde was unable to conceive a child and
viewed this as a blessing from god and they raised her as if she was their own. She grew up to be
beautiful and with a white appearance. Armand fell in love with her and was reminded that she
was nameless. He knew that she could have been the cause of the mixed baby by her unknown
origin. Knowing this, he was very quick to decide she was the cause of the disgrace to his name
and home, and from that point grew cold hearted and shunned them away. During the time this
story was set it would have been unheard of for a powerful white couple who owned a large cotton
plantation to have a mixed baby.
The characters of Desiree and Armand are opposites of each other. Armand cares more for his
name and status than the love of a woman who cares deeply for him. He doesn t see or doesn t
care that his relationship with Desiree goes deeper than the color of his child s skin. He

Jurassic Park Ethical Issues
The fourth film in the Jurassic Park series was released the summer of 2015, 22 years after the first
movie, Jurassic Park, was released. Movie goers had long awaited a reprisal of the series and
flocked to the theaters. As of the end of the June, the newest movie in the franchise had already
grossed nearly $507 million in North America alone and had a worldwide total of well over a
billion dollars.
The overall concept of the movie is a theme park where dinosaurs come to life. Of course,
everything possible goes wrong, as it will when you mess with mother nature. If you haven t yet
seen the movie, not only should you see it, but you can learn a lot about how to manage (and not
manage) your blog from this film.
Jurassic World and Blogs
When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yes, it may take time, but as Jerry Low proved in his article titled How to Make Money Blogging:
Research Tips, Niche Ideas + 10 Actionable Traffic Strategies, there are bloggers making six
figures. Start small, but keep a big end goal in mind.
Don t Mess with Natural Order jurassic world
Jurassic World poster by Source (WP:NFCC#4). Licensed under Fair use via Wikipedia
In Jurassic World, the scientist in charge of creating the dinosaurs is pushed to create bigger and
better dinos. Of course, there s a lot more to the plot than that, but I don t want to spoil it if you
haven t yet seen the movie. In an effort to invent something that will draw crowds, he combines
several deadly dinosaurs into one mega monster called Indominus rex. What could possibly go
wrong?
Your Blog
What you can learn from the movie is that there is a natural order to things. For example, if you
go to other blogger s sites and start posting that people should come visit your site, you are not
going to get a very positive reception.
Instead, remember that there is a process to interacting with other bloggers. You shouldn t
comment unless you have something of value to add to the conversation and you shouldn t ask
people to come to your site. Instead, include a link if the blog owner allows and let your comment
speak for itself about your

These luxury items have caused numerous individuals residing in the third world country to lose their lives or lose the ability to live a fruitful life. Their recent civil war that took place during most of the 1990s had tainted the citizens views on what an effective government could do. • 3. Response To Forgiveness Essay Response to Topic 1 The claims made by the objections have some good points made such that resentment is problematic and it should naturally dissipate when forgiveness is in order. However, through further analysis on the subject matter as well as comparison between the contemporary philosophers and Confucian ideas, one can see the truth behind resentment and forgiveness. According to Murphy, resentment refers to first personal response, which is a diminished feeling when one s self worth has been insulted. For example, when frauder took away one s hard earned money, one feels as if one was picked by the offender because one, among all the rest, is least deserving of the money. However, the act of forgiving others is inevitably the overcoming of resentment, to say forgiveness is not a virtue, is to reject the notion of achieving the overcoming of resentment. Forgiveness is a virtue, it is one step further than switching the aim of resentment, with the focus on self. One of the Confucian idea is to wang (еї ), which is a term describing what happens when your focus of attention is lifted from certain attributes as if one has forgotten about it, but can still be able to recall such incidence when asked. In the fraud example, forgiving is to wang the injury made by the offender and have our limited attention on other more important things in life. This is not to say that one has forgotten about the incidence, one can still describe the details of how the injury was made, but that one is no longer affected emotionally by the offender. Police Corruption Police Corruption: A Perspective View Into the Definition, Cause, Harm Randy Botelho BSLS Capstone, LS498 01 Unit 9 Professor Odim December 17, 2011 Thesis Statement Corruption in law enforcement is not victimless and creates a negative perception of the United States legal system. Introduction There are few professions in the United States that are entrusted with protecting society s safety and system of laws that have been established throughout the course of American history. One of those professions is that of a police officer. It is an admirable calling for an individual to deal with criminals and place themselves in harm s way on a daily basis. This may appear at first glance to be a matter of such a fundamental nature as not to deserve specific mention in an agency policy. Certainly, police officers are as subject to the law as any other person. But reality dictates and history has shown that some officers, whether through misguided zeal or for other reasons, may come to view themselves and their police colleagues as exempt from the law on a general, selective, or situational basis. This element of the policy is intended to stress the importance of the rule of law for all officers and to hold each officer accountable for any legal wrongdoing. (para. 4) When police officers choose a path that is immoral or unethical, they are labeled as being corrupt. The media can play a significant role in the public s opinion of police officers and this idea was supported by Gallagher, Maguire, Mastrofski, and Reisig in a 2001 report on the public image of police when they stated In the final analysis, it is not unreasonable to suppose that people exposed to negative mass media images will have lower evaluations of the police (p. 37). There is a lack of state and federal laws that specifically address police corruption as a whole and Neild (2007) addressed this by saying It is important that national laws and institutional norms governing policing address issues of corruption explicitly, and make it clear that

  • 7. Analysis Of Mordecai Richler s The Response Barney s Version Excerpt In this excerpt, Mordecai Richler does an excellent job mixing both showing and telling. He is able to skim over large periods of time without leaving the reader with questions, and gives just enough detail that the audience is able to understand past events. Richler gives a great amount of detail about one particular incident that enhances the essence of the event and contrasts with the last few sentences. The small conversation that Richler added gives the reader a greater respect for what Leo accomplished, and by contrast, demonstrates the great misjudgement the narrator made. Overall, Richler does an excellent job of balancing showing and telling, and does so in an effective manner that helps the audience gain insight into the situation through the use of contrast. The financial crisis of 2007 2008, also known as the Global Financial Crisis and 2008 financial crisis, is considered by some economists such as Nouriel Roubini, professor of economics and international business at New York University, Kenneth Rogoff, professor of economics and public policy at Harvard University, and Nariman Behravesh, chief economist and executive vice president for IHS Global Insight, to have been the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s. All of them agreed that this is a one in fifty years event , however the latest Great Recession is not a typical cyclical recession of the World Economy and no doubt will last for more that usual two years (Business Wire, Reuters). The crisis played a significant role in the failure of key businesses, declines in consumer wealth estimated in trillions of U.S. dollars, and a downturn in economic activity leading to the 2008 2012 global recession and contributing to the European sovereign debt crisis. French, it s important for troops to learn the true meaning of a warrior ethos in order for them to differentiate themselves between a warrior and a murder in order to ensure that they can return back home with self respect rather than guilt. Learning the true meaning of a warrior s ethos is important because it sets definite limits on what a solder can and cannot do in order to remain a warrior and not become a warrior during war. Among these names are Tiffany Glass Company, Tiffany Glass and Decorating Company, Allied Arts and the most recognizable, Tiffany Studios. Tiffany wanted to transform and transcend the skills of Medieval stained glass producers. In 1881, Tiffany registered a patent for opalescent window glass. This new treatment was accomplished by combing and manipulating several colors to created a range of hues and dimensional effects. Tiffany believed that this new method allowed for more nature in the medium because it enabled the light to transform the glass rather than painting on the glass. Tiffany believed that nature should be the primary focus of artwork, fitting within the Art Nouveau style. This way of creating the art allowed nature to play a key part in the artwork through light. The Truth And Reconciliation Commission ( Trc ) Introduction Between the years of 1870 and 1996, more than 150,000 indigenous children were forcibly removed from their communities, and sent to Indian residential schools. Generation after generation of indigenous children were denied the right to speak their own language, explore spirituality and to learn about their rich cultural history. These schools were designed to assimilate indigenous children into the society of the European settlers. It was under that system that Aboriginal children were required to attend schools that would take the Indian out of the child, in hopes to solve the Indian problem . On June 2nd, 2008, nearly 20 years after the last residential school closed, The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was formed in response to the legacy left behind by the Indian residential school system. • 21. Impact of Hypoxia on the Way We Exercise Intro Introduction A number of environmental conditions can impact the way we exercise. Environmental elements can have a huge impact on the performance of exercise, especially during prolonged submaximal exercise (Hayashi et al, 2005). For example, in situations where hypoxia is an issue, they can have a detrimental impact on the physiology of aerobic organisms, including humans. Hypoxia can occur in a number of environmental situations and has a variety of effects on aerobic organisms. It is essentially the situation where the air has a reduction in the oxygen content, which can have an obvious detrimental impact on human and animals in situations where exercise would require more oxygen in the air (Fan et al., 2008). Hypoxia has a serious impact on the physiology of the human body and its wide variety of functioning. A study conducted by Fan et al. (2008) illustrated that hypoxia can even have an impact on antioxidant enzymes and glutathione, showing its potential to negatively affect humans, both as they exercise and as they are at rest. Still, the relationship between the presence of hypoxia and what it does to the human body in physiological terms is not as well understood as many scientists in the field with hope. However, it has been noted that there are books that might be too dangerous to be in print. One such example of this that has been highly controversial through the years is the book, The Anarchist Cookbook that was published in 1971 by William Powell in response to the Vietnam war. In the book, Powell details instructions to manufacture explosives, illegal drugs and more sinister objects. The purpose of the book is obviously to harm people and disrupt society. The book was published freely until 1991, and then most recently again published in 2012, and it has been documented to be the source for many different attacks. In 1976, the book was supposed to have inspired Croatian Nationalists to hijack a plane and plant explosive devices at Grand Central Station. It was also linked to the Oklahoma bombing and the Columbine high school shooting. Even as recently as 2013, Karl Pierson, a high shooter in Colorado is said to have been reading the book. Many users have posted updated versions of the book on the internet as well. In light of such evidence, one must reexamine the idea of censorship more closely. GAS is defined as sequenced physiological responses to the presence of a stressor, involving the alarm, resistance, and exhaustion stages of the stress response. GAS is a three stage process that describes the physiological changes that the body goes through when stressed. These stages are alarm, resistance, and exhaustion. The alarm stage is involuntary and the changes are controlled by the hormonal and nervous system. Once you are exposed to an event that is threatening or dangerous, the body immediately prepares for difficulty. The hormones and nerves trigger the fight or flight response. Your ... The axis of symmetry ia a vertical line through the vertex of the functions graph. The quadratic function has the axis of symmetry x=h Example Every parabola has an axis of symmetry, the line that runs down its center. The line divides the graph into two perfect halves. In the picture the axis of symmetry is line x=1 Vertex If a parabola opens upward, it has a lowest point. If a parabola opens downward, it has a highest point. This lowest or highest point is called the Vertex of a parabola The standard equation of a parabola is But the equation for a parabola can also be written in vertex form Example: Find the vertex of the parabola. y = 3x2 + 12x 12 So, the x coordinate of the vertex is: a = 3 and b = 12. Substituting in the original equation to get the y coordinate, we get: y = 3( 2)2 + 12( 2) 12 = 24 So, the vertex of the parabola is at ( 2, 24). Zero of a function A

  • 27. The Short Story Of Richard Van Camp A tragedy in its own right must evoke emotion and a response from the audience through effective use of several elements evident in Shakespeare s and Aristotle s style of tragic writing. The plot progression of a tragedy should be rather specific under the idea which leads, ultimately, to the downfall of the protagonist. Despite the sorrowful story behind Richard Van Camp s short story Mermaids, the exclusion of several core elements from both styles of writing prevent this piece from being classified a tragedy. Mermaids lacked the development of a tragic flaw in the main character, Torchy, and furthermore did not lead the character to their tragic demise, Van Camp also excluded the idea of isolating him over time and rather brought him closer to those around him to get over his inner conflict, which is unlike a tragedy. A central character in a tragic piece of writing should develop in a way where they are lead [ushered] to their demise due to a critical flaw, which is caused by the inability to solve an inner conflict. Torchy was found to be at a rather low point in his life evident by his use of drugs and his gambling issues. Despite these vices, he does not allow it to destroy him. His relationship with the young girl, Stephanie, who was neglected by her parents, allowed him to reflect on his past particularly after his brother s death. [M]y daddy s gone, she says... The capacity to share thoughts and ideas through the spoken word allows humans to function as a group, enabling humanity to function as an entity greater than the sum of its separate individuals. Music shares similar properties, as it is also transmitted and perceived through sound. Both have the potential to connect people and are innate properties of the human being. The aim of this paper is to discover further links between the two based on empirical evidence. It is widely acknowledged by linguists that British English represents stress timed language, whereas French represents syllable timed language. To detail the exact difference between the two, stress timed languages have equal duration between stresses, while syllable timed languages show equal duration between syllable onsets (Patel Daniele, 2003, p. 36). With this basic piece of background information, Patel Daniele hypothesizes that syllable timed languages have greater variability in the duration of its vowels as opposed to syllable timed languages. Intuitively, this makes sense since the temporal distance between syllables is smaller compared to the distance between the various points of stresses made in speech, which can span multiple syllables and words. This logic gave birth to the normalized Pairwise Variability Index measure of speech rhythm or simply, nPVI. As the term pairwise suggests, the nPVI takes the length between each pair of adjacent events in time, and calculates how much variability there is among the various duration of vowels compared to the average duration over the entire series of events. The main strength of the nPVI measure lies in the fact that it is a relative measure of events that take place over time, allowing one to take an nPVI value for both music and language and selectively measure the variability of speech rhythm and musical rhythm within the same ...
