Ethylene is a plant hormone that promotes fruit ripening. AgraCo produces ethylene filters that use zeolite coated with potassium permanganate to oxidize and remove ethylene from the air, extending the shelf life of fruits and vegetables. The filters are placed in air circulation systems or near produce. Tests by the US Navy found the filters extended shelf life up to 245% for tomatoes and customers reported reduced spoilage and increased flower longevity when using the filters.
A retort pouch or retortable pouch is a type of food packaging made from a laminate of flexible plastic and metal foils. It allows the sterile packaging of a wide variety of food and drink handled by aseptic processing, and is used as an alternative to traditional industrial canning methods
The term intelligent involves an ON/OFF switching function on the package in response to changing external/internal stimuli, in order to communicate the product status to its consumers or endusers. The use of features of high added value that enhance the functionality of a product, notably mechanical, electronic and chemical features that improve safety and efficiency.
Oxygen is life, but in the case of foods, it is not so. When harvested, fresh fruits and vegetables
are at the peak of their quality. Their quality cannot be improved; it can only be deteriorated or
maintained. Fresh, high-quality products are the primary requirements for the national and international food industry during this current era. After harvesting, especially for fresh fruits and vegetables, continue their respiration process. The respiration rate has to be reduced to maintain quality, especially when the products are stored for an extended period or shipped to distant markets. The best way to preserve quality and extend shelf life is by cooling, and another method used to extend shelf life is the modification of the atmosphere surrounding the product. Also known as “CA storage” in the produce business, Controlled atmospheric storage is the storage in which external control systems control the atmosphere of oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen (and sometimes other gases). Outside air consists of approximately 78% nitrogen (N2), 21% oxygen (O2), 0.045% carbon dioxide (CO2). CA lowers the oxygen level generally to 0.5-2.5%, depending on the type of product and the variety. CA conditions extend the shelf life of fruit and vegetables with a factor of 2 to 4.

A terry towel is a textile product which is made with loop pile on one or both sides generally covering the entire surface or forming strips, checks or other patterns. Special type of weaving technique is required for terry towel manufacturing. Terry towels are often very complex with yarns of different types and colors, in combination with various loop pile and flat structures. The name "terry" comes from the word "tirer" which means to pull out, referring to the pulled out by hand to make absorbent traditional. Turkish toweling Latin "vellus" meaning hair has the derivation "velour" which is the toweling with cut loops. There are many types of towel. Baby Towel, Bath Towel, Beach Towels, Golf Towels ,Hand Towel and Hotel Towels now used commonly.

Ethylene the only gaseous plant hormone (C2H4)
This is a simple gas that is produced naturally in small quantities by many plant tissues and is able to diffuse readily, via intercellular spaces, throughout the entire plant body.
Ethylene is involved primarily in plant responses to environmental stresses such as flooding and drought, and in response to infection, wounding and mechanical pressure.
It also influences a wide range of developmental processes, including shoot elongation, flowering, seed germination, fruit ripening and leaf abscission and senescence.

Ripening.ppt ruit ripening is a natural process in which a fruit goes through...RoselynAdajar
Ripening is a process in fruits that causes them to become more palatable. In general, fruit becomes sweeter, less green, and softer as it ripens. Even though the acidity of fruit increases as it ripens, the higher acidity level does not make the fruit seem tarter. This effect is attributed to the Brix-Acid Ratio.
Fruit ripening is a natural process in which a fruit goes through various physical and chemical changes and gradually becomes sweet, colored, soft, and palatable. Fruit ripening process can also be stimulated by applying artificial fruit ripening agents. Farmers and vendors often use artificial ripening agents to control the rate of fruit ripening. However, because of the potential health hazards related to the ripening agents, artificial fruit ripening process is highly debatable throughout the world.Different fruit ripening agents can be used to ripen fruits artificially and to provide fruits the desired color and taste within a short time. In recent years, the use of artificial fruit ripening agents is becoming much prevalent, the agents being mostly used for commercial purposes, i.e., to make the fruits available to customers during off-season.
atural fruit ripening is a combination of physiological, biochemical, and molecular processes [21–24]. It involves coordination of different metabolisms with activation and deactivation of various genes, which leads to changes in color, sugar content, acidity, texture, and aroma volatiles [21, 22, 25]. The change in color during the fruit ripening process is a result of unmasking of pigments by degradation of chlorophyll, synthesis of different types of anthocyanins and their accumulation in vacuoles, and accumulation of carotenoids. Production of complex mixture of volatile compounds, such as ocimene and myrcene, and degradation of bitter principles (diverse groups of plant constituents such as alkaloid and sesquiterpene are linked only by their bitter taste), flavonoids, tannins, and other related compounds enhance the flavor and aroma of the fruit. Sweetness increases because of increased gluconeogenesis (metabolic pathway that generates glucose), hydrolysis of polysaccharides, decreased acidity, and accumulation of sugars and organic acids. Furthermore, textural changes resulting in the softening of fruits occur due to enzyme-mitigated alteration in structure and composition of the cell wall [23, 26, 27]. Through the above changes, fruit becomes ripe with distinctive characteristics: sweet, colored, soft, and palatable.
Artificial fruit ripening and possible health hazards
Ethylene, a hormone naturally produced within fruit, regulates fruit ripening by initiating and/or controlling a series of chemical and biochemical activities [28]; the compound does so by coordinating the genes responsible for activities including increase in the rate of respiration, autocatalytic ethylene production, chlorophyll degradation, carotenoid synthesis alongside conversion of starch to sugar, increased a

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

2. What is Ethylene?
“Ethylene, unlike the rest of the plant
hormone compounds is a gaseous hormone.
Like abscisic acid, it is the only member of its
class. Of all the known plant growth
substance, ethylene has the simplest
structure. It is produced in all higher plants
and is usually associated with fruit ripening
and the tripple response.”
(Arteca, 1996; Mauseth, 1991; Raven, 1992; Salisbury and Ross, 1992).
3. What does Ethylene do?
H2C=CH2
As they approach maturity, many fruits (e.g., apples, oranges, avocados) release ethylene.
Ethylene then promotes the ripening of the fruit.
Commercial fruit growers can buy equipment to generate ethylene so that their harvest ripens quickly
and uniformly. The presence of ethylene is detected by transmembrane receptors in the endoplasmic
reticulum (ER) of the cells. Binding of ethylene to these receptors unleashes a signaling cascade that
leads to activation of transcription factors and the turning on of gene transcription.
The ill-fated FlavrSavr tomato contains an antisense transgene that interferes with the synthesis of
ethylene and hence slows ripening.
Ethylene also affects many other plant functions such as: abscission of leaves, fruits, and flower petals;
• drooping of leaves;
• sprouting of potato buds;
• seed germination;
• stem elongation in rice (by promoting the breakdown of abscisic acid (ABA) and thus relieving ABA's
inhibition of gibberellic acid);
• flower formation in some species.

5. What does reducing ethylene mean to you?
Keeping fruits, vegetables and fresh cut flowers fresher longer means:
A competitive edge with better looking and better tasting product
Increased customer satisfaction
Increased customer loyalty
Decreased shrink due to spoilage
Longer marketability of produce
Increase in profitability
Decreased rejections
Reduced waste
6. So how does this work?
The process is fairly simple…
Our filters and sachets contain a mineral called
Zeolite. While there are many different zeolites,
they share something in common; a molecular
structure that is much like a honeycomb grid
work. This makes zeolites a natural odor
absorber.
7. So how does this work?
The zeolite is coated with potassium
permanganate (KMnO4)
Potassium Permanganate is an oxidizer, that
reacts with the ethylene in the air, and releases
carbon dioxide and water.
8. So how does this work?
AgraCo’s filters are encased in a pleated
stainless steel frame covered with Tyvek®
AgraCo’s ethylene absorbing
sachets uses Tyvek® to
Envelop the zeolite.
9. So how does this work?
For the filter to work optimally, it must be placed in the air-
flow either on the intake or the output in a closed system.
Ethylene is slightly heavier than air, so the better the air
circulation, the more ethylene will be captured by the filter.
AgraCo’s model 350 filter has perimeter tabs to allow you to
zip-tie directly to the cover of your current air circulation
system.
10. So how does this work?

In refrigerated trailers and containers, place the filters directly
on to the air circulating system, directly in the flow of air. As air
passes through the filter, the potassium permanganate oxidizes,
“scrubbing” the air clean. The zeolite deodorizes by capturing
bacteria, and the Tyvek® cover captures dirt, mold, and fungus
spores. This method is also suggested for cold room storage.

12. So how does this work?
AgraCo’s model 341 filters are specially designed to work with our blower unit.
AgraCo’s 345 model blower is built from stainless steel with four mounting eyes on the
top of the unit for easy installation.
The unit has a 9 amp, ½ hp electric motor, and is rated 1075 RPM high speed delivering
1580 CFM of air or 750 RPM to deliver 1120 CFM.
This unit uses 4 filters.
The ease of installation, allows you to turn virtually any room into a produce cooling
area.
13. Produce Saver™ & Floral Saver™
AgraCo’s Produce Saver™ Floral Saver™ work as mini filters. The sachets
are made of the same materials as the Extend-A-Life™ filters, but on a
smaller scale.
They are the perfect size for use inside 30-40 lb boxes of tomatoes,
avocados, peaches, nectarines, pears, and virtually any tree fruit.
Additionally, bagged fruit such as cherries and grapes. Placing the sachet
inside the master wrap bag, and will reduce the ethylene making the use
of MAP bags more effective.
Produce Saver™ are also ideal for fruit
baskets, fruit and vegetable displays, and
floral arrangements.
They are made of the same Tyvek® as the
Extend-A-Life™ filters and are printed with
food grade ink.
14. Ethylene producers and ethylene sensitive
products
Products such as melons, bananas, avocados and tomatoes for example are considered ethylene
producers. Products such as lettuce, broccoli, and carrots are considered ethylene sensitive; this
means that these products will decay rapidly when exposed to even the smallest amounts of
ethylene gas.
Ethylene producers: Ethylene sensitive:
apples nectarines bananas, unripe leafy greens
apricots papayas Belgian endive lettuce
avocados passion fruit broccoli okra
