Psychoanalytic Critique In Tennessee Williams s play, A Streetcar Named Desire he
creates a very complex psychoanalytic plot. Freud s most enduring and important
idea was that the human psyche (personality) has more than one aspect. Freud saw
the psyche structured into three parts the id, ego and superego, all developing at
different stages in our lives. These are systems, not parts of the brain, or in any way
physical. The three main characters in the play can each be compared with one of the
three parts of the human mind. Stanley s character corresponds with the id, Stella s
character can be compared to the ego, and Blanche s character would represent the

In 1704, John Campbell started the Boston Newsletter. This became
America s first regularly printed newspaper. This paper paved the way for
newspapers to develop all throughout the colonies. As the colonies attempted to
steer away from England, newspapers became an outlet for anti England
propaganda. Along with these papers came articles that was critical of the
government and subsequently cases of libel were developed. One very important
case was the Zenger trial. John Peter Zenger began the New York Weekly Journal in
1733 and his newspaper printed some articles against the colony and its Governor,

Cosby. After a speech by Alexander Hamilton, Zenger was found not guilty by the
jury and this was a crucial step toward freedom of the press. After the revolution,
newspapers needed something else to criticize, so journalists criticized people
affiliated with the wrong political party. Freedom of the press was guaranteed in
1787 in the Bill of Rights but there was a threat of war with France. Federalists
needed to squelch the
Republican writings done in newspapers, so they passed the Sedition Act in
1798.

Legacies and Black Feminism, her study of the recordings of Billie Holiday and the
blues
vaudevillians Gertrude (Ma) Rainey and Bessie Smith, black social consciousness has
been
overdetermined by race, with too little attention paid to sex and virtually none to
class. Davis, a
professor of something called the history of consciousness at the University of

Symbolism is arguable one of the most important literary devices in all of literature.
Not only is it used to help explain key plot points in a story, but it is also used to
highlight certain aspects in a story you might not have noticed originally. In the novel
The Great Gatsby, the author F. Scott Fitzgerald uses symbolism through color to
express mood, different characters, and a variety of themes though the story. Colors
