George Rush St-Pierre s Case
Not even financial woes concerning UFC 217 s ticket sales could divert George Rush St Pierre s
(GSP) attention to his goal of defeating Michael The Count Bisping and having the UFC
middleweight championship belt wrapped around his waist on November 4 at Madison Square
Garden. MMA Junkie relayed GSP s statement that he would rather win his fight and make zero
dollars than the other way around by losing his fight and earning his profit. According to UFC
commentator Joe Rogan, the pay per view s ticket sales are not going well as expected, yet UFC
President Dana White explained that GSP required a reintroduction to the sport s followers after a long
layoff. In the end, only live gate and pay per view figures will determine UFC 217 s success.

The US pays twice as much yet lags other wealthy nations in such measures as infant mortality and
life expectancy, which are among the most widely collected, hence easily compared, international
statistics. Many people are underinsured, for example, in Colorado of those with insurance for a full
year, 36.3% were underinsured. [6][7] About 10.7 million insured Americans spend more than a
quarter of their annual paychecks on health care because of the high deductible polices.[8]
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Public Law 111 148) was signed into law by
President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. Along with the Health Care and Education
Reconciliation Act of 2010 (signed March 30), the Act is a product of the health care reform efforts of
the Democratic 111th Congress and the Obama administration. The law includes health related

The lack of knowledge disrupts an organization to achieve its goal. One method for deriving this
information gap is known as gap analysis .
In the case of the Melbourne Hilton Hotel gap analysis; these are the following areas of service that
will be observed in order to improve the company s reputation and leading to a greater market share: *
Front office experience * Business and leisure facilities * Food and beverage service * Accessibility *

Essentially, the marketing manager will seek to understand how a competitive advantage may be
gained over other competitors (Lemon et al 2002). Figure 1 shows that Hilton Hotel Corporation is
one of the leading hotels in the world. Nevertheless, as a newer hotel in Melbourne, Hilton is facing
some serious challenges from competitors such as Grand Hyatt Melbourne and Sheraton Melbourne.
Grand Hyatt Melbourne has completed its four year refurbishment project. Meanwhile, Sheraton
Melbourne Hotel will launch a new full service as part of a 2013 development, combining hotel
services with up market residences and boutique retail (Melbourne Planner s Guide 2011 2012, 2011).

Air Force Core Values
In the early 1990 s the Chief of staff, Merrill A. McPeak, originally posted the six core values of the
United States Air Force which consisted of integrity, tenacity, courage, patriotism, competence, and
service. It wasn t until a few years later that those six core values were merged into three. The three
core values; integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do were officially embraced by
the United States Air Force in January of 1995 in order to define the type of character expected from
those within the branch of service (Lt Col Tower, P., Lt Col Dunford, D, n.d.). Today these core values
are the three basic fundamentals of life in the family known as the United States Air Force. Every

The Air Force defines integrity as always doing what is right even when no one is looking (United
States Air Force core values, 1997). Integrity itself is built off of many different key traits; honesty,
kindness, generosity, courage, responsibility and having respect not only for others but yourself as
well. Those are just some of the key traits. I will give prime examples of each trait mentioned above
from my own personal life to help you better understand integrity. The first trait I would like to review
with you is honesty. There are many different aspects of honestly. It could be as simple as telling
someone how you really feel or admitting to a mistake you may have made in your life. Several years
back, I was riding my bicycle at a high rate of speed and flew around a sharp corner. I came around
the corner so fast that I crashed my bicycle into a brand new car that just happened to be parked on the
side of the road. As you can imagine, I flew over my handle bars and landed on the car. The accident
left minor damage to vehicle, but no one was around. I could have easily rode off and pretended it
never happened, though that would not have been the honest nor the right thing to do. I spoke with the
owner of the car and made arrangements to pay him back for the damage. Honesty is a key trait you

Austria-Hungary s Assassination
Although many believe the assassination of Austria Hungary s Archduke Franz Ferdinand by a
Bosnian Serb named Gavrilo Princip to be the main catalyst for World War I, in reality, it was actually
an accumulation of many events that led to the start of the Great War. Collectively, these events are
now referred to as the July Crisis; additionally, events not included in the July Crisis also influenced
the beginning of World War I. The war was fought by two opposing Alliances: The Allied Powers,
consisting of the United Kingdom, France, and the Russian Empire at its core because they were the
three countries that formed the Triple Entente (as the war progressed, The Allied Powers gained the
support of Italy, Japan, and the United States); and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a letter to the Kaiser on the 5th of July 1914, Emperor Fran Joseph stated that the assassination of
his nephew was a direct consequence of the agitation carried on by the Russian and Serbian Pan
Slavists whose sole aim [was] the weakening of the Triple Alliance and the destruction of [his]
Empire. The evidence in the article shows that Austria Hungary is not going to allow this assassination
to go unpunished, because now the entire empire is feeling threatened. After the assassination, Austria
Hungary issued an ultimatum to Serbia, which stated that Austria Hungary wanted Serbia to be
completely responsible for the assassination, even though the killer was of Bosnian descent, not
Serbian. The Serbians were obviously angered by this ultimatum because they took it as an insult to
their country because also in the telegram was a request by the Austria Hungary to allow them to
investigate the murder of the Archduke because they felt as if the Serbians would not do a sufficient
job in performing the investigation. The ultimatum created uneasiness in Austria Hungary and Serbia;
however it also raised concerns in Germany and Russia as well. Evidence of this uneasiness can be
found in The Willy Nicky Telegrams, which was a correspondence between Nicholas II, Emperor of
Russia and Wilhelm II, the German Emperor. In a telegram sent by Wilhelm II to Nicholas II on the
28th of July 2914, Wilhelm states, It is with the gravest concern that I hear of the impression which
the action of Austria against Serbia is creating in your country . The fact that he is expressing grave
concern shows that this ultimatum given to the Serbians was making rulers of other countries
uncomfortable as well. Additionally, according to the Memoirs of Henry Morgenthau who was the US

Childhood Bulimia Nervosa
Background: Eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating are life threatening
conditions that affect a person s emotional and physical health. Anorexia nervosa is the intense fear of
gaining weight and having an abnormally low body weight. Individuals restrict the amount of food
they consume. Bulimia Nervosa is eating large amounts of food and getting rid of the extra calories by
force vomiting or misusing laxatives. Abuse during childhood has long been hypothesized to be a risk
factor for the development of eating disorders (Harlow, Rayworth, and Wise, 2004). The purpose of
this study was to assess the association between childhood violence, victimization, and eating
disorders.

Rayworth and others (Rayworth, et al (2004)), the researchers conducted a case control study from
Harvard Study of Moods and Cycles. Women between the age of 36 and 44 in the years of 1995
through 1997 were sampled. The women returned questionnaires providing information on their
menstrual characteristics, current depressive symptoms, and history of major depression. Most studies
focus only on sexual abuse without analyzing physical abuse. This study concluded that sexual abuse
without physical abuse was not associated with eating disorders. Women with histories of anorexia or
bulimia and those who met the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition,
reported some childhood abuse. Sexual abuse without physical abuse was not associated with eating
disorders, whereas physical abuse without sexual abuse was still associated with a 2 fold increased
risk of eating disorders. The joint effect of both physical and sexual abuse resulted in a 3 fold
increased risk of eating disorder symptoms and a nearly 4 fold increased risk of eating disorders that
met DSM IV criteria. (Rayworth, et all

Aboriginal Women are Oppressed in Society Essay
Throughout history, women have been the victims of oppression in society. In specific, Aboriginal
women have suffered through racism, sexism, domestic violence, and over representation. Through
the implementation of the Indian Act, Aboriginal women have been forced to abandon their culture in
order to assimilate into Canadian society. The effects of colonization has changed the way Aboriginal
women are treated; emotionally and physically, and therefore are the source of oppression today.
The Indian Act was created under the provisions section 91 of the Constitution Act of 1867 (Moss,
1990). The act was implemented to define who an Indian is and the rights that come with the title.
These rights pertain to status, bands and reserves for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Treaty benefits, health, rights to living on the reserve and property are forfeited as a result of losing
Indian status. This also happens when an Indian women gets married to another Indian man. She loses
her rights to her own band, and has to become a member of her husband s band. Ultimately, if the
women becomes widowed or abandoned then she loses all status of being an Indian all together. On
the other hand, men can marry a non status woman and all of his rights would be kept. With strides of
equality throughout history, it takes a step back when Aboriginal women are entirely dependent of
their husband. Several cases were took to court in the 1970 s, but not until 1980 is when there was a
connection found between the United Nations Human Rights Committee and the Canadian Human
Rights Act. With this section in direct violation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political
Rights, the removal of a woman s Indian status while marrying a non Indian man was done and Bill C
31 was passed so victims of the Indian Act can be reimbursed. However, Bill C 31 is still under
scrutiny because those who have their status reinstated to them can only pass it on for one generation.
This is a violation under Section 15 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms (Payne, 1992). The Indian
Act is a controversial piece of legislation that was passed in 1876. It has been amended throughout the
times, but the core concept of the Indian Act still

The Formation Of A Contract Requires Offer And Acceptance
The formation of a contract requires offer and acceptance in order to become legally binding. An offer
is an expression of willingness to contract on specified terms made with the intention that it is to
become legally binding as soon as it is accepted by the person to whom it is addressed. The advert
above is a unilateral contract as one party assumes an obligation under the contract . Consideration is
the act of performance in accordance with the terms of the offer, in this case acceptance would take
place once the offeree starts the race. For example, the case of Carlill v Carbolic Smoke Ball Co
[1892] where Mrs Carlill was entitled to the reward as the advert constituted an offer of a unilateral
contract. She had accepted by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Borough of Mayfair cannot revoke the offer, as revocation can only be made at any time before
acceptance. In addition, withdrawal of an offer has to be communicated between both parties and in
this case withdrawal was not communicated. Nicole was informed of the withdrawal of the money
after acceptance and performing the actions required were completed. Therefore, the contract cannot
be terminated. A person cannot accept an offer of which they are unaware of because in order to create
a binding contract, parties must reach an agreement. In this case Sylvie had no knowledge of the offer
and she did not intend to run the race in order to receive any rewards. It can be said that the only
intention she had was to accompany the rest of the competitors. The stages of a formation of a contract
were not complete as offer was made to anyone , but Sylvie was not aware of the offer. This restricts
the next stages of acceptance and consideration. Therefore, a legally binding contract was not made
between the Borough of Mayfair and Sylvie, due to the missing stages of a formation of a contract.
The Taylor v Laird [1856] case illustrates how a claim failed because one party did not have an offer
from the other party to do a different job. This illustrates that a contract requires communication in
order for it to become legally binding. Even though the conditions which were required were
performed,

Comparing James Lapine s Into The Woods And Stephen Sondheim
We watched Into the Woods by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim. Honestly, when you said we
were going to watch a musical I thought, oh cool it s going to be like Phantom of the Opera , or High

parts. I love the way Sondheim tied the sarcasm in with the release of tension and lesions.

CIPD (2) defines Succession Planning as a process for identifying and developing potential future
leaders or senior managers, as well as individuals to fill other business critical positions, either in the
short or the long term .
Formal succession planning should be a systematic approach in preparing lower level employees to
handle the responsibilities of the senior management in the forthcoming years. It helps to identify the
capable employees who have the potential to fulfil these critical roles in the hierarchy.
This can be done informally, through discussions with management over a period of time or
alternatively, by more formal techniques, such as an assessment of competencies or regular
performance reviews.
Organisations need to consider succession planning alongside workforce planning, to ensure that their
longer term objectives can be delivered in the future by the right people with the right skills.
Succession planning can be applied to individual roles and to pools of positions, for which similar
skills are required.
In the case of individual and more senior roles, organisations will identify key roles and successors for
these roles, focussing on providing the necessary experience, talent and development to ensure that
they will succeed when reaching the senior management level in the future.
This can also be applied to pools of roles. By developing the generic skills required within groups, it
also provides

Consequence, it leads to a rise the imports cost for the Kingdom. Saudi economy has suffered from
increasing import prices of food commodities, which constitute about 26 per cent of the index price. It
had recorded until 17th March 2008, increasing in food commodities were denominated by dollars of

a decrease in the value of money earned from exports. That means the double of negative impact of
exchange rate depreciation of the dollar. According to study prepared by the Bank (SAMBA), the

Deregulation Of The Trucking Industry
The deregulation of the trucking industry began with the Motor Carrier Act of 1980, which was
marked into law by President Carter on July 1, 1980.A division of the U.S. Department of
Transportation, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulates nearly all aspects
of the trucking industry.
1935 Motor Carrier Act (MCA) established two classes of carriers, private and exempt, that would not
be subject to ICC price regulation. Two classes subject to operating authority and safety regulation
only. Private exemption allowed companies with product to ship to get their own trucks and drivers,
and move their own product

With increase in trucking companies, problem of heavy carbon dioxide emission in environment will
arrive sooner than expected
Conclusion:
Deregulation of the trucking industry has resulted in more competition and efficiency without of
service cutbacks to smaller shippers, freeing up the trucking market to permit much more flexible
pricing and service arrangements, allowed manufacturers to reduce inventories, move their products
more quickly, and be more responsive to customers. Thus, Consumers indirectly benefited from the
more efficient, lower cost transport of goods
In my opinion following major changes USA will experience in near future due to deregulation:
Total cost is going to be rise high for shippers as well as for carriers, since they will compete for
drivers with best safety score.
A problem of Driver shortages will hit truck industry sooner than expected
Safety is going to be the top most priority of carriers
Quality of service is not going to suffered due to deregulation
My recommendation on this scenario would be greater economic efficiencies can be achieved by
increasing truck size and weight carrying capacity of truck which would boost the economy in general
and would also help to reduce carbon foot

Juxtaposition Between Good And Evil In The Characters Of...
The chronicles of Beowulf are episodic and carries many conundrums. Specifically, there lies an
enormous contrast between good and evil. The protagonist, Beowulf, is chivalrous, mighty, and loyal.
By the same token, Beowulf s extraordinary showing of patriotism enables him to be the ultimate
keeper of justice. On the other hand, Grendel upholds evil that is derived from pure envious. It is
important to note, that Grendel expresses a high level of combat experiences, just as Beowulf,
however, the wicked man uses his unwavering incitement for iniquitous ways. All things considered,
the juxtaposition between the great Beowulf, and the relentless Grendel, has many significant
distinctions between both characters, including, the contrast between honorable and villainous.
Although, both individuals possess superhuman characteristics, the differences in Beowulf s
confidence, ethics, and bravery will out match Grendel s jealous, irrational, and forsaken soul; As a
matter of fact, the worthy warrior will be crowned victor because God does not let the nefarious waste
away the righteous.
Above all, Beowulf s rather extraordinary confidence, encourages the demise of any opposition. The
noble warrior boasts of his skill often in Beowulf. In particular, Seamus Heaney affirms Beowulf s
public gloat:
I had a fixed purpose when I put out to sea.
As I sat in the boat with my band of men,
I meant to perform to the uttermost what your people wanted or perish in the attempt, in the

The Lack of Free Speech in the Military
As a member of the United States military, there are times that the very freedoms that are being
defended are not extended to those sailors and soldiers that are in charge of that task. One of those
freedoms is freedom of speech. As a veteran of the United States Navy, I find the limitation of speech
for a member of the military to be contradictory at best. The very fact that members of the armed
forces cannot speak freely about government officials, as well as government issues that affect their
lives, seems to be controversial because it limits one of the freedoms these sailors and soldiers have
vowed to protect. To oppose the right of free speech of any member of the military takes away from
the importance of the job they do. It has been argued that a member of the military should be mindful
of whom they work for and the chain of command that orders come from, and that any display of
dissatisfaction can be seen as disobedience or even treason.
I support members of the military being able to voice their thoughts on issues that impact their lives,
as well as the lives of their families. There are a few reasons why I support this. Simply put, as
Americans they have the right of freedom of speech. Given the responsibilities of these sailors and
soldiers in their day to day jobs, they should be entrusted to know what to say and what not to say.
Most people take for granted the right to speak one s mind, right or wrong, and have nearly no
ramifications for doing so. When one

The scope of this paper is to bring about digitization in healthcare, where each individual s health
records are uploaded to the cloud and are accessed by a smart health card.
Smart card is used in information technology as a portable integrated device with data storage and
data processing capabilities. In other fields, smart cards used in health systems became popular due to
their increased capability and performance. Its efficient use with easy and fast data access leads to
implementation especially in security systems.

They tend to get damaged very easily. There is no guarantee that it can be kept safe for many years by
the patient. They are difficult to maintain over a longer period of time. In case of any accidents, if the
person readily has the smart health card with him or her, medication can immediately be done by
looking at their medical history. If the person gets unwell suddenly in a place where he or she has got
no manual medical reports with them, then smart health cards will be of great use since there is no
difficulty in carrying them to any place.
ADVANTAGES OF SMART HEALTH CARDS : They are easily portable. Records can be
maintained easily over a longer period of time. A complete medical history of the patient will be
available. Even if the patient is not able to explain his medical condition to any doctor, it can be easily
known from this card. It cannot be easily damaged. Even if the card is lost, the records of the patient
are not list since they are permanently present in the cloud. If their respective account is signed up
with the new card, their records are backed up to the new card.

The Pros And Cons Of Human-Wildlife Conflict
General introduction
According to the IUCN World Park Congress (2003), Human Wildlife Conflict (HWC) occurs when
wildlife resource requirements overlap with those of human populations, creating costs both to
communities adjacent to protected areas and the wildlife within them. At present the phenomenon
poses a serious challenge to both the human livelihoods and the flora and fauna globally (Berger
McGraw 2007).
HWC take place in diverse environments and different animal assemblages and countries and this is
increasingly acquiring the attention of ecologist, wildlife biologists, wildlife researchers and wildlife
managers across the globe (Muriuki et al.2017). Even though HWC has an ancient historical
background, its rising harshness and multi faced nature has made it a great global concern to wildlife
management, this is due to number of factors such as, habitat fragmentation, land use changes, human
and wildlife population expansion, competition for resources ... Show more content on

2016) and as results retaliatory killings of wildlife species intensify( Broekhuis et al. 2017,Mateo
Tomas et al. 2012), the long term survival of species is at risk. Wildlife population decreases in areas
where there are high human wildlife interactions, in places such as forests, river bank and grazing
areas adjacent to protected areas (Michalski et al 2006; Sladge et al. 2017). On the other hand this
conflict poses a huge challenge in the sustainability of human livelihoods (Gillingham Lee 2003; Rao
et al 2002; Sahoo and Mohnot 2004), along with resultant economic loss from crop and livestock
damages ( Mackenzie and Ahabyona 2012; Schön 2013). The management of HWC drains the
affected countries financially (Lamarque et al. 2009), this calls for better strategic management plans
which are publicly acceptable and will not jeopardize wildlife conservation

The Effect Of Particulate Matter On Human Health
Introduction Background:
The World Health Organization (WHO) has defined particulate matter (PM2.5), as an outdoor air
pollutant. Also known as air pollution, aerosols, and fine particulate matter, PM2.5 has emerged as one
of the most significant environmental and public health concerns over the past several decades. PM2.5
has revealed to hold detrimental affects on human health and is attributable to over 130,0000 deaths
annually according to 2005 air quality levels (Hoek et al. 2013; CDC). The processes of economic
development, urbanization, energy production, and consumption, and transportation have been the
primary driving forces of PM2.5. (EPA; Huang et al, 2014)
The term refers to microscopic matter suspended in the Earth s atmosphere with a diameter of 2.5μg or
less that can originate from both natural and/or manmade processes (EPA). It is characterized by 5
major components that compromise the mass of the particle: sulfate, nitrate, organic carbon, (OC),
elemental carbon (also known as black carbon, BC), and crustal carbon (EPA). Some particles may
appear naturally, coming from volcanoes, forest fires, vegetation, and the ocean (EPA). In contrast,
particles are also be created by anthropogenic activities such as the burning of fossil fuels and various
industrial processes (EPA; Huang et al., 2014). Higher concentrations of the particulate primarily
originate from larger sources such as the burning of gasoline in automobiles, oil, diesel and wood

The House On Mango Street Gender Essay
Girls and boys are entirely separate entities. That s what the protagonist of The House on Mango
Street believes. And it s true that Esperanza and her female peers experience adolescence very
differently than they would as males they are more vulnerable. Growing up means the painful
necessity to be on guard, and the sexual attention Esperanza receives from older men leads her to feel
helpless. Brought to light by the appearance of Sally, a popular friend, gender based objectification
materializes over and over in Sandra Cisneros first novel. As a desire to be desired cultivates in
Esperanza s consciousness, she is forced to confront the trouble that comes with being beautiful. The
presence of Sally brings to the surface two prominent issues girls face in society: a lack of control
over their bodies and lives, and the subsequent pain that keeping up appearances presents. In a
patriarchal world, most women have felt powerless. They are under constant scrutiny by media, and
constant sexualization by men often, girls feel they aren t in control of their own selves. This is a
theme in Mango Street. Again and again, female characters are placed under the domination of fathers,
husbands, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adolescence is a time of being forced to come to terms with the more grisly aspects of human nature
and for girls, this means the realization that they are seen as prey by many men. Because of this, Sally
acts a crucial role in Mango Street, as her lack of control over her own life sheds light on what the
female perspective truly entails. But this narrative of men holding power must change only when
women are empowered can society truly advance. Sally from Mango Street may never experience the
freedom to be herself and choose her own path, but Sandra Cisneros has created a book that will work
to bring women s issues out of the

The Homelessness And The Problem Of Homelessness In Hawaii
Hawaii is know as paradise, but as soon as you leave the airport you start to realize something. If you
are a tourist visiting Hawaii. Once you start to drive around Oahu, you will notice homeless people or
trash all around the island. Homelessness in Hawaii is a problem everyone can agree on. As I chose to
write about homelessness, I am not picking on the homeless. Writing about the homeless issue in
Hawaii doesn t only have an impact on our community but it also includes other states.
Being born and raised here on Oahu, I have not only realized that Hawaii is not the old Hawaii. I have
realized our homeless community has been growing rapidly. Ever since I was ten I have fell in love
with surfing. While going to school everyday is sometimes stressful. I like to go surfing either after
class or before class starts. With Waikiki being my one of my favorite spots to surf. If we all don t
know already, we know Waikiki has terrible parking. When I go down to Waikiki I like to park at the
zoo. After I grab my surf board, I leave everything in my car because I clip my car key to my bathing
suit and walk down to the beach. As the years go by the homeless population in Hawaii starts to grow.
Each time I walk down Waikiki I have noticed more homeless people sleeping along Waikiki Ave.
Lately I have been scared to walk down Waikiki Ave alone. At least every time I go surfing homeless
people have tried to approach me.
The solution to all of this we may not have in the near

A Brief Note On John Snow As A Surgeon And A Doctor
19th Century
John Snow was a qualified as a surgeon and a doctor in 1838. Dr Snow was interested in how cholera
spread through drinking water and observed that people who drank water and drank water from the
one company was most likely to come across this disease than the people who do not drink that
company s water. Dr Snow planned a map which he noted all the cases of cholera and then realised
that all the people who were ill were getting their water from the same and only pump, which it
supplied water that came from the sewage contained river Thames. People also used different pumps
to get water but did not get the infected. This is when Dr Snow established that was connection
between cholera and contaminated water. He identified all the aspects and also looked at the sources
of the infected water, and realised that all the contaminated water came from the broad street water
pump, so he went to the broad street water pump and took the handle of the pump and got rid of the
outbreak of cholera. (Stretch and Whitehouse 2010)

A Long Term Care Resident
As for Ms. Sanchez, since she is a long term care resident, assessments are not done as often as for
skilled nursing patients that are also clients to Baptist. Her assessments are spread out further than
those for the clients in the skilled nursing floor. While she did ask what these assessments were for,
she was also glad the student did this. The client stated how sometimes people are too worried about
the medical aspect and overlook the fact that there are other things they should look for. Aside from
helping the facility by keeping it out of trouble with the state, it also helps Ms. Sanchez pay for her
stay at the facility as she is on Medicaid and often times, scores on these assessments may help her
qualify for the benefits. Having these assessments as a requirement and a policy enforced by the state
of Texas is important, not only for Ms. Sanchez but all elders residing in BRC and other nursing home
facilities. With these assessments, staff and caregivers are aware of any changes to a client s health
and allows the agency to create a plan specifically designed for the individual. Diversity Issues When
helping clients, it is important to be aware that diversity issues may be encountered everywhere.
According to Barker (2003) diversity is defined as, Variety, or the opposite of homogeneity...usually
refers to the range of personnel who more accurately represent minority populations and people from
varied backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities, and viewpoints, (pg. 126).

Speech On The Moon Landing
In history, one of the greatest achievement known to mankind is the Apollo 11 moon landing. On July
20, 1969, the spaceflight known as the lunar module Eagle, landed the first three humans on the moon
(NASA). The first human to step, and leave a footprint on the moon was mission commander, Neil
Armstrong. Climbing down the ladder, the words that he said are still reminisced to this day, That s
one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind (NASA). The other two who were also part of
this accomplishment was the pilot, Edwin Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins.
Before this historic triumph, almost a decade before it occurred, the 35th president of the Unites
States, John F. Kennedy, on May 25, 1961, he proposed to the world the ambitious goal to put a man
on the moon before the decade if out (Logsdon 37). John F. Kennedy truly believed that it was only a
matter of time for them to make it possible since their technology was already too advanced. There has
been so much more that humans have been capable of and landing on the moon sure was going to be
one of them. As technology advances, humans are capable of so much more, such as discovering
nuclear power, the invention of the television, satellites, and computers. These have proven that the
intellectual knowledge in humans keeps expanding every single day, making it possible to make more
discoveries and accomplishments. John F. Kennedy was not able to witness such success because two
years later, after his speech, he

What Is A Victim Of Crime A Failure
These quotations demonstrate that over the past fourteen years the head of State has called for the
government to increase attention to the treatment of victims of crime in England and Wales. This
would imply that the needs of victims of crime have consistently been on the political agenda and that
the system is recognising that improvements need to be made to promote victims interests. What
however is the reality? This essay will explore how an advocate for the criminal justice system (CJS)
would argue that victims of crime are not being failed. It will present the measures taken to improve
the rights and interests of victims. It will discuss the commitment of the Crown Prosecution Service
(CPS) to victims by exploring The Prosecutors Pledge . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nils Christie believes that conflicts have been taken away from the parties directly involved. This
view is supported by other academics who have implied that the victims do not have any formal status
in proceedings. It is argued that the effect of this results in the victim being neglected and viewed as
the non person in the eyes of the professional participants . Victims have been compared to a
professional tool at the disposal of the lawyers, judges and court officials which would imply that
cases have been taken by the professionals of the system and that victims have lost participation in
their own cases. It is submitted that this is a transparent failure of the system as victims have lost their
voice and are viewed as subservient to the professionals. It is interesting to compare the current
process with that used in the Anglo Saxon period where an altercation trial took place and the victim
was responsible for prosecuting the offender. Academics have labelled this the golden age of the
victim as the conflict was heard without lawyers, giving the victim a central role. A clear difference
can be seen between the two systems and victims appear to have lost rights which could be concluded
as a failure of the

Friedan And The Feminine Mystique By Betty Friedan
Feminism is the fight for equality between the sexes. It can be dated back to the mid 19th century with
women like Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony. The first wave feminist procured the right
to vote for American women. The following second and third waves built upon what the founding
feminists created. The second wave of feminism was set off by the disenchantment women across
America were experiencing. This disenchantment was caused by the nuclear family and the roles that
the women in the 1950s were thrust into. The second wave is said to have lasted from the 1960s
1980s. Sometime after the 1980s, most likely the early to mid 1990s, third wave feminists began to
rear their heads. The third wave built upon the advancements made ... Show more content on

Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. After the creation of the National Organization for
Women (NOW), an executive order was issued by LBJ to include sex in affirmative action. And in
1973 Roe V. Wade occurred, this case made first trimester abortions legal. All of these events show
that the second wave of feminism raged war on many institutions. What began as a crusade to make
women aware turned into a massive revolution. The third wave of feminism began sometime in the
1990s. This was when the Riot Grrrl was taking over Washington state. And a woman named Anita
Hill was waging a battle against her sexual assaulter, Clarence Thomas a Supreme Court nominee, in
court. The court ruled in favor of Thomas. These events worked as a catalyst for the third wave. The
third wave focused on ensuring that the accomplishments made by the second wave were not taken for
granted. The women involved in the third wave viewed race, transgender rights, sexual liberation, and
social class as their central issues. Third wave feminist wanted each and every woman to have a say
when it came to their body. They rebelled against the attempted passage of North Dakota s complete
ban on abortion and the United States Supreme Courts efforts to uphold the partial birth ban. The third
wave was also viewed as more open. Their concentration shifted to being an activist group that was
more openminded to how women could dress and act. Their view was that the more they tried to

Alison Sulloway
In the article Jane Austen and the Province of Womanhood, Alison Sulloway is illustrating the
background of Jane Austen s life and prompting reasons as to why and how Austen became the type of
writer that it was in which she became. In the beginning of the article, Sulloway demonstrates Austen
s advanced style of writing through direct quotations of some of Austen s most popular works. Some
of these works from Austen suggest the type of life she lived, or perhaps was forced to live due the era
in which she grew up constituted for a male gender based influenced/controlled society, such as
hopeless sorrow, or she usually wrote in depressed spirits. In fact, Sulloway does not to fail to

In her opening statement, Austen illustrates the the reasoning for marriage at this time, It is a truth
universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a
wife (Austen 9). For nearly everyone in the eighteenth century, marriage was seen as a business. A man
seeked a wife solely because it was seen as a requirement to be viewed as a resectable addition to
society. Once a man asked a woman for her hand in marriage, the woman would almost always
immediately accept, as it was valued as an honor for a woman to be desired for this type of role. Her
family was to pay her future husband a sum of money in which he saw suitable. Austen s protagonist,
Elizabeth Bennet, contradicts this belief. She finds it ridiculous and in a way humorous that men and
women actually find a status such as this something of honor. In contrast, Elizabeth Bennet feels
marriage should be something that holds greater value than a price tag and a measurement of one s
worthiness for a good reputation, but rather she feels it should be based off of feelings that a man and
woman share for one another. As said by Elizabeth herself, The true perfection of man lies not in what
he has, but in what he is. Jane Austen constructs a way in which Elizabeth Bennet mocks marriages
formulated in the ways in which she disagrees

Epic of Beowulf Essay
Alliteration in Beowulf
The diction of the Old English poem Beowulf is distinguished primarily by its heavy use of
allliteration, or the repetition of the initial sounds of words.
In the original manuscript version of the poem, alliteration is employed in almost every line (or two
half lines); in modern translations of the poem this is not so. Beowulf uses alliteration [my italics] and
accent to achieve the poetic effect which Modern English poetry achieves through the use of poetic
feet, each having the same number of syllables and the same pattern of accent (Wilkie 1271). In lines
4 and 5 of the poem we find:
Oft Scyld Scefing sceapena preatum
monegum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such stressed alliterative binding together created hundreds of pairs that are used over and over, such
as halig/heofon holy/heaven, dryhten/dugud lord/troop, fyren/feond sin/enemy. The pairs need not be
complementary, but rather can be contrastive, like eadig/earm happy/wretched and wearm/winter
warm/winter. These dictional contrasts provide the listener additional pleasure by surprising his
expectations. The alliteration also includes stressed vowels (Tharaud 34).
Prof. Magoun, in examining the poem, considers it probable that a high percentage of the language in
Beowulf is formulas or phrases repeated from a common bank of phraseology from which all poets
drew their language (88 89). From this common bank the poets drew out what they need based on the
requirements of alliteration. In his essay The Making of an Anglo Saxon Poem, Robert P. Creed agrees
that alliteration was the poet s basis for making his choice of words:
I shall therefore take only a very small portion of Beowulf, eight verses (four lines), and attempt, by
means of references to similar verses and lines in the rest of the poem and in other surviving Anglo
Saxon poems, to illustrate the thesis that the making of any Anglo Saxon poem was a process of
choosing rapidly and largely on the basis of alliterative [italics mine] needs not between individual
words but between formulas (142).
The alliteration in the poem was so

Wal Mart Stores Perhaps one of the most commonly cited success stories in supply chain management
(SCM) is that of Wal Mart Stores, Inc., which reported total sales of $191.329 billion and a net income
of $6.295 billion during the fiscal year ended January 31, 2001 (see www.walmartstores.com). These
figures represent a 15.9% growth in total sales and a 17.1% increase in net income over the

Under such a system, the vendor subject to bounds previously agreed upon with the retailer decides on
the appropriate levels of inventory to carry at the retail stores, as well as the corresponding inventory
policies to maintain such levels. In the P G and Wal Mart partnership, P G committed to the
development of a dedicated team to handle the Wal Mart account. A primary objective of this team is
to facilitate information sharing between the two firms and address logistics, supply, management
information systems, accounting, finance, and other issues (Handfield and Nichols, 1999). Under this
arrangement, Wal Mart shares point of sale information from retail outlets directly with P G, giving
the latter easy access to information on consumer transactions and buying patterns. P G s dedicated
Wal Mart account team effectively takes responsibility for the marketing and sales of P G products
within Wal Mart stores. Similar VMI partnerships with other giant retailers have been established by P
G. These partnerships have dramatically improved P G s on time deliveries to Wal Mart and the other
retailers while increasing inventory turnovers (Simchi Levi, et al, 2000; Handfield and Nichols, 1999).
At the same time, they save the retailer a significant amount of managerial and other resources, and

The World Of Private Security Essay
In todays world of private security, secrecy is essential. But what about when those secrets are
incidents which breach the confines of the law or human rights. Should they still be kept secrets,
should they be ignored by government regulators and poorly investigated by congressional
committees, or should they be exposed and issued proper sanctions? Since the beginning of the War
on Terror there have been a multitude of incidents involving private security companies which are also
sometimes known as mercenary armies. These incidents, in many cases, have tried to be covered up or
discredited by the companies involved. In some instances, bribes were even involved and exposed but
the companies were still allowed to operate. Many of them even received more contracts from the US
government! Private security companies around the world provide essential services that range from
the protection of VIP s to the installation of security systems to the building of FOB s (Forward
Operating Base), command bases, and even roads. Personally, I like the idea of PSC s (Private
Security Companies) and am even looking to go into the private security industry but my choice
would come after careful consideration and research on the policies and procedures of the company.
That is where the problem today lies, with the policies and procedures of PSC s as well as the lack of
policies and procedures imposed onto them by the government. Overall I believe that these companies
are effective but that

  • 2. George Rush St-Pierre s Case Not even financial woes concerning UFC 217 s ticket sales could divert George Rush St Pierre s (GSP) attention to his goal of defeating Michael The Count Bisping and having the UFC middleweight championship belt wrapped around his waist on November 4 at Madison Square Garden. MMA Junkie relayed GSP s statement that he would rather win his fight and make zero dollars than the other way around by losing his fight and earning his profit. According to UFC commentator Joe Rogan, the pay per view s ticket sales are not going well as expected, yet UFC President Dana White explained that GSP required a reintroduction to the sport s followers after a long layoff. It wasn t until a few years later that those six core values were merged into three. The three core values; integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do were officially embraced by the United States Air Force in January of 1995 in order to define the type of character expected from those within the branch of service (Lt Col Tower, P., Lt Col Dunford, D, n.d.). The Air Force defines integrity as always doing what is right even when no one is looking (United States Air Force core values, 1997). Integrity itself is built off of many different key traits; honesty, kindness, generosity, courage, responsibility and having respect not only for others but yourself as well. Those are just some of the key traits. I will give prime examples of each trait mentioned above from my own personal life to help you better understand integrity. The first trait I would like to review with you is honesty. There are many different aspects of honestly. It could be as simple as telling someone how you really feel or admitting to a mistake you may have made in your life. Several years back, I was riding my bicycle at a high rate of speed and flew around a sharp corner. I came around the corner so fast that I crashed my bicycle into a brand new car that just happened to be parked on the side of the road. As you can imagine, I flew over my handle bars and landed on the car. The accident left minor damage to vehicle, but no one was around. I could have easily rode off and pretended it never happened, though that would not have been the honest nor the right thing to do. I spoke with the owner of the car and made arrangements to pay him back for the damage. Honesty is a key trait you must have in the Air ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Austria-Hungary s Assassination Although many believe the assassination of Austria Hungary s Archduke Franz Ferdinand by a Bosnian Serb named Gavrilo Princip to be the main catalyst for World War I, in reality, it was actually an accumulation of many events that led to the start of the Great War. Collectively, these events are now referred to as the July Crisis; additionally, events not included in the July Crisis also influenced the beginning of World War I. The war was fought by two opposing Alliances: The Allied Powers, consisting of the United Kingdom, France, and the Russian Empire at its core because they were the three countries that formed the Triple Entente (as the war progressed, The Allied Powers gained the support of Italy, Japan, and the United States); and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a letter to the Kaiser on the 5th of July 1914, Emperor Fran Joseph stated that the assassination of his nephew was a direct consequence of the agitation carried on by the Russian and Serbian Pan Slavists whose sole aim [was] the weakening of the Triple Alliance and the destruction of [his] Empire. The evidence in the article shows that Austria Hungary is not going to allow this assassination to go unpunished, because now the entire empire is feeling threatened. After the assassination, Austria Hungary issued an ultimatum to Serbia, which stated that Austria Hungary wanted Serbia to be completely responsible for the assassination, even though the killer was of Bosnian descent, not Serbian. The Serbians were obviously angered by this ultimatum because they took it as an insult to their country because also in the telegram was a request by the Austria Hungary to allow them to investigate the murder of the Archduke because they felt as if the Serbians would not do a sufficient job in performing the investigation. The ultimatum created uneasiness in Austria Hungary and Serbia; however it also raised concerns in Germany and Russia as well. Evidence of this uneasiness can be found in The Willy Nicky Telegrams, which was a correspondence between Nicholas II, Emperor of Russia and Wilhelm II, the German Emperor. • 8. Childhood Bulimia Nervosa Background: Eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating are life threatening conditions that affect a person s emotional and physical health. Anorexia nervosa is the intense fear of gaining weight and having an abnormally low body weight. Individuals restrict the amount of food they consume. Bulimia Nervosa is eating large amounts of food and getting rid of the extra calories by force vomiting or misusing laxatives. Abuse during childhood has long been hypothesized to be a risk factor for the development of eating disorders (Harlow, Rayworth, and Wise, 2004). Women between the age of 36 and 44 in the years of 1995 through 1997 were sampled. The women returned questionnaires providing information on their menstrual characteristics, current depressive symptoms, and history of major depression. Most studies focus only on sexual abuse without analyzing physical abuse. This study concluded that sexual abuse without physical abuse was not associated with eating disorders. Women with histories of anorexia or bulimia and those who met the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition, reported some childhood abuse. Sexual abuse without physical abuse was not associated with eating disorders, whereas physical abuse without sexual abuse was still associated with a 2 fold increased risk of eating disorders. • 9. Aboriginal Women are Oppressed in Society Essay Throughout history, women have been the victims of oppression in society. In specific, Aboriginal women have suffered through racism, sexism, domestic violence, and over representation. Through the implementation of the Indian Act, Aboriginal women have been forced to abandon their culture in order to assimilate into Canadian society. The effects of colonization has changed the way Aboriginal women are treated; emotionally and physically, and therefore are the source of oppression today. The Indian Act was created under the provisions section 91 of the Constitution Act of 1867 (Moss, 1990). The act was implemented to define who an Indian is and the rights that come with the title. Treaty benefits, health, rights to living on the reserve and property are forfeited as a result of losing Indian status. This also happens when an Indian women gets married to another Indian man. She loses her rights to her own band, and has to become a member of her husband s band. Ultimately, if the women becomes widowed or abandoned then she loses all status of being an Indian all together. On the other hand, men can marry a non status woman and all of his rights would be kept. With strides of equality throughout history, it takes a step back when Aboriginal women are entirely dependent of their husband. Several cases were took to court in the 1970 s, but not until 1980 is when there was a connection found between the United Nations Human Rights Committee and the Canadian Human Rights Act. With this section in direct violation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the removal of a woman s Indian status while marrying a non Indian man was done and Bill C 31 was passed so victims of the Indian Act can be reimbursed. However, Bill C 31 is still under scrutiny because those who have their status reinstated to them can only pass it on for one generation. This is a violation under Section 15 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms (Payne, 1992). The Indian Act is a controversial piece of legislation that was passed in 1876. • 10. The Formation Of A Contract Requires Offer And Acceptance The formation of a contract requires offer and acceptance in order to become legally binding. An offer is an expression of willingness to contract on specified terms made with the intention that it is to become legally binding as soon as it is accepted by the person to whom it is addressed. The advert above is a unilateral contract as one party assumes an obligation under the contract . Consideration is the act of performance in accordance with the terms of the offer, in this case acceptance would take place once the offeree starts the race. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Borough of Mayfair cannot revoke the offer, as revocation can only be made at any time before acceptance. In addition, withdrawal of an offer has to be communicated between both parties and in this case withdrawal was not communicated. Nicole was informed of the withdrawal of the money after acceptance and performing the actions required were completed. Therefore, the contract cannot be terminated. A person cannot accept an offer of which they are unaware of because in order to create a binding contract, parties must reach an agreement. In this case Sylvie had no knowledge of the offer and she did not intend to run the race in order to receive any rewards. It can be said that the only intention she had was to accompany the rest of the competitors. The stages of a formation of a contract were not complete as offer was made to anyone , but Sylvie was not aware of the offer. This restricts the next stages of acceptance and consideration. Therefore, a legally binding contract was not made between the Borough of Mayfair and Sylvie, due to the missing stages of a formation of a contract. The Taylor v Laird [1856] case illustrates how a claim failed because one party did not have an offer from the other party to do a different job. This illustrates that a contract requires communication in order for it to become legally binding. Even though the conditions which were required were performed, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Specifically, there lies an enormous contrast between good and evil. The protagonist, Beowulf, is chivalrous, mighty, and loyal. By the same token, Beowulf s extraordinary showing of patriotism enables him to be the ultimate keeper of justice. On the other hand, Grendel upholds evil that is derived from pure envious. It is important to note, that Grendel expresses a high level of combat experiences, just as Beowulf, however, the wicked man uses his unwavering incitement for iniquitous ways. All things considered, the juxtaposition between the great Beowulf, and the relentless Grendel, has many significant distinctions between both characters, including, the contrast between honorable and villainous. Although, both individuals possess superhuman characteristics, the differences in Beowulf s confidence, ethics, and bravery will out match Grendel s jealous, irrational, and forsaken soul; As a matter of fact, the worthy warrior will be crowned victor because God does not let the nefarious waste away the righteous. Above all, Beowulf s rather extraordinary confidence, encourages the demise of any opposition. The noble warrior boasts of his skill often in Beowulf. The Lack of Free Speech in the Military As a member of the United States military, there are times that the very freedoms that are being defended are not extended to those sailors and soldiers that are in charge of that task. One of those freedoms is freedom of speech. As a veteran of the United States Navy, I find the limitation of speech for a member of the military to be contradictory at best. The very fact that members of the armed forces cannot speak freely about government officials, as well as government issues that affect their lives, seems to be controversial because it limits one of the freedoms these sailors and soldiers have vowed to protect. To oppose the right of free speech of any member of the military takes away from the importance of the job they do. It has been argued that a member of the military should be mindful of whom they work for and the chain of command that orders come from, and that any display of dissatisfaction can be seen as disobedience or even treason. I support members of the military being able to voice their thoughts on issues that impact their lives, as well as the lives of their families. There are a few reasons why I support this. Simply put, as Americans they have the right of freedom of speech. Given the responsibilities of these sailors and soldiers in their day to day jobs, they should be entrusted to know what to say and what not to say. Most people take for granted the right to speak one s mind, right or wrong, and have nearly no ramifications for doing so. When one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On July 20, 1969, the spaceflight known as the lunar module Eagle, landed the first three humans on the moon (NASA). The first human to step, and leave a footprint on the moon was mission commander, Neil Armstrong. Climbing down the ladder, the words that he said are still reminisced to this day, That s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind (NASA). The other two who were also part of this accomplishment was the pilot, Edwin Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. Before this historic triumph, almost a decade before it occurred, the 35th president of the Unites States, John F. Kennedy, on May 25, 1961, he proposed to the world the ambitious goal to put a man on the moon before the decade if out (Logsdon 37). John F. There has been so much more that humans have been capable of and landing on the moon sure was going to be one of them. As technology advances, humans are capable of so much more, such as discovering nuclear power, the invention of the television, satellites, and computers. These have proven that the intellectual knowledge in humans keeps expanding every single day, making it possible to make more discoveries and accomplishments. John F. Kennedy was not able to witness such success because two years later, after his speech, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. What Is A Victim Of Crime A Failure These quotations demonstrate that over the past fourteen years the head of State has called for the government to increase attention to the treatment of victims of crime in England and Wales. This would imply that the needs of victims of crime have consistently been on the political agenda and that the system is recognising that improvements need to be made to promote victims interests. What however is the reality? This essay will explore how an advocate for the criminal justice system (CJS) would argue that victims of crime are not being failed. It will present the measures taken to improve the rights and interests of victims. It will discuss the commitment of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to victims by exploring The Prosecutors Pledge . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nils Christie believes that conflicts have been taken away from the parties directly involved. This view is supported by other academics who have implied that the victims do not have any formal status in proceedings. It is argued that the effect of this results in the victim being neglected and viewed as the non person in the eyes of the professional participants . Victims have been compared to a professional tool at the disposal of the lawyers, judges and court officials which would imply that cases have been taken by the professionals of the system and that victims have lost participation in their own cases. It is submitted that this is a transparent failure of the system as victims have lost their voice and are viewed as subservient to the professionals. It is interesting to compare the current process with that used in the Anglo Saxon period where an altercation trial took place and the victim was responsible for prosecuting the offender. Academics have labelled this the golden age of the victim as the conflict was heard without lawyers, giving the victim a central role. A clear difference can be seen between the two systems and victims appear to have lost rights which could be concluded as a failure of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Friedan And The Feminine Mystique By Betty Friedan Feminism is the fight for equality between the sexes. It can be dated back to the mid 19th century with women like Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony. The first wave feminist procured the right to vote for American women. The following second and third waves built upon what the founding feminists created. The second wave of feminism was set off by the disenchantment women across America were experiencing. This disenchantment was caused by the nuclear family and the roles that the women in the 1950s were thrust into. The second wave is said to have lasted from the 1960s 1980s. Sometime after the 1980s, most likely the early to mid 1990s, third wave feminists began to rear their heads. The third wave built upon the advancements made ... What began as a crusade to make women aware turned into a massive revolution. The third wave of feminism began sometime in the 1990s. This was when the Riot Grrrl was taking over Washington state. And a woman named Anita Hill was waging a battle against her sexual assaulter, Clarence Thomas a Supreme Court nominee, in court. The court ruled in favor of Thomas. These events worked as a catalyst for the third wave. The third wave focused on ensuring that the accomplishments made by the second wave were not taken for granted. The women involved in the third wave viewed race, transgender rights, sexual liberation, and social class as their central issues. Third wave feminist wanted each and every woman to have a say when it came to their body. They rebelled against the attempted passage of North Dakota s complete ban on abortion and the United States Supreme Courts efforts to uphold the partial birth ban. The third wave was also viewed as more open. Their concentration shifted to being an activist group that was more openminded to how women could dress and act. • 30. Alison Sulloway In the article Jane Austen and the Province of Womanhood, Alison Sulloway is illustrating the background of Jane Austen s life and prompting reasons as to why and how Austen became the type of writer that it was in which she became. In the beginning of the article, Sulloway demonstrates Austen s advanced style of writing through direct quotations of some of Austen s most popular works. Some of these works from Austen suggest the type of life she lived, or perhaps was forced to live due the era in which she grew up constituted for a male gender based influenced/controlled society, such as hopeless sorrow, or she usually wrote in depressed spirits. In fact, Sulloway does not to fail to highlight the fact that Austen had been talented in her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In her opening statement, Austen illustrates the the reasoning for marriage at this time, It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife (Austen 9). For nearly everyone in the eighteenth century, marriage was seen as a business. A man seeked a wife solely because it was seen as a requirement to be viewed as a resectable addition to society. Once a man asked a woman for her hand in marriage, the woman would almost always immediately accept, as it was valued as an honor for a woman to be desired for this type of role. Her family was to pay her future husband a sum of money in which he saw suitable. Austen s protagonist, Elizabeth Bennet, contradicts this belief. She finds it ridiculous and in a way humorous that men and women actually find a status such as this something of honor. In contrast, Elizabeth Bennet feels marriage should be something that holds greater value than a price tag and a measurement of one s worthiness for a good reputation, but rather she feels it should be based off of feelings that a man and woman share for one another. As said by Elizabeth herself, The true perfection of man lies not in what he has, but in what he is. • 31. Epic of Beowulf Essay Alliteration in Beowulf The diction of the Old English poem Beowulf is distinguished primarily by its heavy use of allliteration, or the repetition of the initial sounds of words. In the original manuscript version of the poem, alliteration is employed in almost every line (or two half lines); in modern translations of the poem this is not so. Beowulf uses alliteration [my italics] and accent to achieve the poetic effect which Modern English poetry achieves through the use of poetic feet, each having the same number of syllables and the same pattern of accent (Wilkie 1271). In lines 4 and 5 of the poem we find: Oft Scyld Scefing sceapena preatum monegum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such stressed alliterative binding together created hundreds of pairs that are used over and over, such as halig/heofon holy/heaven, dryhten/dugud lord/troop, fyren/feond sin/enemy. The pairs need not be complementary, but rather can be contrastive, like eadig/earm happy/wretched and wearm/winter warm/winter. These dictional contrasts provide the listener additional pleasure by surprising his expectations. The alliteration also includes stressed vowels (Tharaud 34). Prof. Magoun, in examining the poem, considers it probable that a high percentage of the language in Beowulf is formulas or phrases repeated from a common bank of phraseology from which all poets drew their language (88 89). From this common bank the poets drew out what they need based on the requirements of alliteration. In his essay The Making of an Anglo Saxon Poem, Robert P. Creed agrees that alliteration was the poet s basis for making his choice of words: I shall therefore take only a very small portion of Beowulf, eight verses (four lines), and attempt, by means of references to similar verses and lines in the rest of the poem and in other surviving Anglo Saxon poems, to illustrate the thesis that the making of any Anglo Saxon poem was a process of choosing rapidly and largely on the basis of alliterative [italics mine] needs not between individual words but between formulas (142). In the P G and Wal Mart partnership, P G committed to the development of a dedicated team to handle the Wal Mart account. A primary objective of this team is to facilitate information sharing between the two firms and address logistics, supply, management information systems, accounting, finance, and other issues (Handfield and Nichols, 1999). Under this arrangement, Wal Mart shares point of sale information from retail outlets directly with P G, giving the latter easy access to information on consumer transactions and buying patterns. P G s dedicated Wal Mart account team effectively takes responsibility for the marketing and sales of P G products within Wal Mart stores. Similar VMI partnerships with other giant retailers have been established by P G. These partnerships have dramatically improved P G s on time deliveries to Wal Mart and the other retailers while increasing inventory turnovers (Simchi Levi, et al, 2000; Handfield and Nichols, 1999). A form of change can be seen in Victory Lap by George Saunders, a short story written in such a way that the events that are enrolling throughout the story are being processed and told through the minds of three main characters. Having the perspective of each character allows us, the readers to get a much greater understanding about them and to make a better character analysis. Quite a change from the beginning of the story where Kyle would recognize the situation properly and come forth with proper procedures in order to confront it, like he did when he walked in the house with his shoes on and when he walked in the house with his dirty socks. Kyle changes from mentally rehearsing an event to bluntly rushing into action. Kyle was raised in a very strict environment where he would follow instructions that have been drilled into him all of his life. If he came home he would sign his name as if punching in and out of a workplace. • 36. The World Of Private Security Essay In todays world of private security, secrecy is essential. But what about when those secrets are incidents which breach the confines of the law or human rights. Should they still be kept secrets, should they be ignored by government regulators and poorly investigated by congressional committees, or should they be exposed and issued proper sanctions? Since the beginning of the War on Terror there have been a multitude of incidents involving private security companies which are also sometimes known as mercenary armies. These incidents, in many cases, have tried to be covered up or discredited by the companies involved. In some instances, bribes were even involved and exposed but the companies were still allowed to operate. Many of them even received more contracts from the US government! Private security companies around the world provide essential services that range from the protection of VIP s to the installation of security systems to the building of FOB s (Forward Operating Base), command bases, and even roads. Personally, I like the idea of PSC s (Private Security Companies) and am even looking to go into the private security industry but my choice would come after careful consideration and research on the policies and procedures of the company. That is where the problem today lies, with the policies and procedures of PSC s as well as the lack of policies and procedures imposed onto them by the government. Overall I believe that these companies are effective but that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
