Essays On Tolerance
Crafting an essay on the theme of tolerance presents both intellectual and emotional challenges.
Tolerance is a multifaceted concept, entailing a nuanced exploration of acceptance,
understanding, and coexistence in a diverse world. To delve into this topic effectively, one must
navigate the complexities of cultural, social, and ideological differences.
The difficulty lies not only in defining tolerance but also in dissecting its various manifestations
across different contexts. Whether it be tolerance in the face of religious diversity, racial
differences, or ideological discrepancies, the essay must address the subtleties and intricacies
inherent in each scenario. Moreover, striking the right balance between advocating for tolerance
and acknowledging the limitations of absolute acceptance requires finesse.
Additionally, writing an essay on tolerance necessitates a delicate handling of sensitive subjects.
Tackling issues like discrimination, prejudice, and intolerance can evoke strong emotions, and
crafting a piece that fosters understanding without unintentionally perpetuating stereotypes is a
challenge. Striving for objectivity while promoting empathy adds another layer of complexity to
the writing process.
Furthermore, it's crucial to avoid superficial treatment of the topic. A meaningful exploration of
tolerance demands thorough research and a comprehensive understanding of historical and
contemporary perspectives. The essay should reflect a deep engagement with the subject matter,
offering insightful analyses that go beyond clichГ©s or oversimplified notions of tolerance.
In terms of personal expression, finding the right tone is crucial. Balancing an academic tone
with a human touch is challenging when discussing a topic that is inherently tied to human
emotions and experiences. The writer must connect with the audience on an emotional level
while maintaining the integrity of their arguments.
In conclusion, writing an essay on tolerance is no easy task. It involves grappling with the
complexities of diversity, navigating emotionally charged subjects, and maintaining a delicate
balance between objectivity and empathy. However, the endeavor is rewarding, as it offers an
opportunity to contribute to the discourse on fostering a more inclusive and understanding
society.

Deep Vein Thrombosis Research Paper
Deep vein thrombosis (also known as DVT ) occurs when a blood clot (thrombus)
forms in one or more of the deep veins in the body, however usually it often occurs in
the legs. The most common symptom is leg pain or swelling, but it can also occur
without any symptoms. Sometimes certain medical conditions can affect the
development of DVT, especially if the condition has to do with how the bloodclots.
Another way DVT can come about is if someone does not move for a long time, such
as a patient who is be confined to a hospital bed. Deep veinthrombosis is very
serious because blood clots in the veins can break loose, travel through the blood
stream, and possibly lodge into the lungs, which in turn blocks the blood flow
causing a possible pulmonary embolism. When diagnosing a lower extremity deep
vein thrombosison a patient, ultrasound is rated number one out of the various
diagnostic imaging modalities. MRI and CT are tied for the second highest rating...

If the ultrasound has findings, or if there are clinical symptoms that suggest
proximal disease (iliocaval), then an x ray venogram of the pelvis may be
performed. However, it is not the method of choice. This is beneficial though
because compared to CT, it uses a significant less amount of radiation. It still uses
radiation, but not as much. The lowest rating in the rankings is x ray venography
of the lower extremity. This exam is generally used in conjunction with
thrombolysis. Thrombolysis is a treatment to dissolve dangerous clots in the blood
vessels to improve blood flow and prevent damage to the tissues and organs. It may
involve the injection of clot busting drugs through an intravenous line or through a
long catheter that delivers drugs directly to the site of the blockage. These types of
exams are not as common as the use of an MRI or CT machine may be because of

How The American Revolution Changed After The French...
The definition of the word revolution has itself evolved significantly over the course
of
the American and French revolutions. Prior to the French Revolution, the word meant
the process
of coming a full cycle, or a return to a point previously occupied (Kirk 295). It is only
after the
chaotic French revolution which overturned the old political and social order in the
country that
revolution came to be known as a radical change in social and government
institutions. Since
we are analyzing the American Revolution from the perspective of the events of the
French, it is
apt to use the interpretation of the word that came into being post the French
revolution.
The French Revolution was starkly different to its American counterpart. ... Show

Consequently, few
social changes were needed in the eyes of the founders following the revolution
(Schweikart and
Dougherty 4).
The American War of Independence may be viewed as a rebellion as opposed to a
revolution. In On Revolutions, Hannah Arendt says about medieval and post
medieval rebellion
Rebellion was not a challenge of authority or the established order of things as such;
it was
always a matter of exchanging the person who happened to be in authority (41). The
American
Revolution too was a case of exchanging the person of authority, the King, for
someone else.
Arendt did also note, however, that the people had never in the past been able to
decide
who should be their ruler and more significantly, to appoint a person from their own
ranks for the
business of the government. This may be considered, in the French sense of the word,
revolutionary. If anything, it was one of the few revolutionary aspects of the American
Revolution.
While this may be true, the statement that all men are born equal in the Declaration of
Independence is not too revolutionary at all when closer examined. Firstly, only white

The Legend Of Galveston Island-Personal Narrative
As I stared at the once working cartridge in my hands, I felt as though someone had
had snapped a chord inside of me; my cheeks ached from suppressed tears. I looked
up at my dad, hoping he could fix it for me. However, he simply shook his head and
said, I m sorry, I can t. But Eli said a friend of his left their gamein their pockets and
it went through the wash cycle and it still worked afterward, I replied, desperately
hoping for any bit of good news to save my precious game as I began to lose
control of the floodgates on my face. Brandon, he soothed, This was a hurricane. It
s a lot worse than a wash cycle. After trying desperately to fix my most prized
PokГ©mon game for 30 minutes, but to no avail, I buried my face into my dad s
shoulder and started to bawl. I would not know until years later that he cried too,
not because I had lost my game, but because he felt powerless to help me feel better
when I needed him to fix something the most. I was eleven years old after hurricane
Ike had devastated GalvestonIsland. Before that point, I never realized how much
the seemingly silly game that my cousin had introduced me to meant to me. I

9995 CNN was made into a website. The website attracted growing interest and is
now one of the most popular news websites in the world. The widespread growth
of blogs, social media and user generated content have influenced the site. The
website CNN helped us find the observations (what) , examples (how) , analysis
(why) to rhetorical concepts. We figured out how to use the concepts and how not
to use the concepts. The rhetorical concepts are audience, purpose, Ethos, Logos,
and Pathos. By observing the website CNN the audience is mainly for politicians
and students. The reason the audience is politicians and students is because of the
titles such as Today in politics which are for politicians. The titles such as Top
stories help to inform students to create research papers. The reason why it is for
politicians is because politicians enjoy being updated on politics which CNN

Marketing Strategies
Many businesses have started to incorporate market strategies as a way of increasing
profitability. Small business can create market strategies to target their market more
effectively and have a competitive edge over competition. Lyndon Simkin, (2000)
stated If the right opportunities are pursued, customers are properly probed, the right
customers targeted with a marketing proposition designed to give a business an edge
over its rivals, it is highly likely that customers will be satisfied, market share will
rise in core target markets and profitability will accordingly support a viable future.

probably not get top billing over Tiffany s on the organic list, unless they spend a
significant amount of time and money on developing their web site design and

E mail Marketing
Small businesses have been using email marketing as a way of marketing their

Essential Parts That Make A Church Plant Successful
In this paper, we are going to look at some of the vital parts that make a church
plant successful. We will first examine the importance of the location and will look
at three reason why this is something that requires extreme thought and prayer. We
will then look at finances of the church. We will examine the who and the how when
it come the stewardship. Finally closing the paper, we will examine where the main
growth will take place small groups. Looking at four areas of small groups that a
church plant must have.
A successful church plant location is a vital part of the churches ministry. Malphurs
says
Locating the church campus is the most important decision, because when you
locate a strategic campus for your ministry community, you have made the decision
for the location of the facilities and parking as well. They will be part of the whole
package. At this point you need to keep all three in mind campus, facilities, and
parking area. And you actually begin with the campus the geographical site.
This church is going to pick a location that is centrally located in the middle of town.
As a church plant, we know that location is key and believe that being in the middle
of town is going to maximize the ministry of the church. The location of the church is
vital to the people who you are trying to reach. A successful church plant must be
located within the community that is being served. Malphurs states that For your
unsaved, unchurched community, the church s

Symbols And Symbols In The Book The Shawl
Shelby McCrory Ms. Corbin English 102 February 4, 2015 The Shawl and
Symbols In the book The Shawl a family of a mother and two children are trying to
survive during the Holocaust. It proves that humans strongest instinct is the will to
survive and apparently the shawl is the only way to accomplish this. Throughout
the story survival is linked back to the shawl itself. The main focus of the story is
having the shawl and using it to survive. The shawl is a symbol of many things,
but most importantly it is a symbol of protection, a symbol of comfort, and a
symbol of nourishment. Throughout the story it is obvious that the shawl is
thought of as a symbol of protection. She looked into Magda s face through a gap in
the shawl: a squirrel in a nest, safe no one could reach her... (247). From Rosa s
statement it is easily known that the shawl is complete protection to Magda. As
long as she is covered and wrapped in the shawl she thinks she is protected, and it
becomes obvious that she is as long as she remains in it. ... She might drop the
shawl, and Magda would fall out and strike her head and die (247). This symbolizes
that the shawl is the only thing protecting her from death itself. If the shawl is taken

gave her a magical type of nourishment that only could be given by the shawl
The Enterprise And Regulatory Reform Bill
As of October 2013 the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Bill was amended by
parliament under the proposal of Vince Cable , the new powers gave shareholders
a binding vote on executive compensation , this meant that any changes in
executive pay required a 50% shareholders approval. Before this shareholders votes
on such matters were advisory , this meant even if there was a vote against
executive pay they could still be increased regardless. This is significant as it
shows a change in peoples perception on the role of shareholders within a company
and leads to the point if this is correct. One of the main reason for such a change in
the bill was many of the public felt that executive s were over paid, The average
FTSE 100 chief... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the view of many these increases of there pay were not justified , and was a
contrast to shareholders investment money going down in value due to decrease in
share prices of the company. What this showed was in some instances the
objective of the executive s were given priority of the shareholder which ultimately
led to the shareholders losing out , and so introducing such power allowed
shareholders to allocate pay rewards more closely aligned with corporate
objectives and performance. These reasons overall echo the idea that it allows
shareholders to have a greater say on how the company should be run by
controlling the pay of executives as before this shareholders would be very limited
in the say of pay with the only option being to replace committee members and
directors. This in itself would not be a likely option as it could become costly in
the long run and create uncertainty which may have more negative impacts. One of
the reasons to give such measures was to reduce such excessive pay packages to
executive so the question to ask is whether these reforms introduced since 2013 has
actually worked. According to PWC at the end of 2013 percentage base pay
increase of main board members increased by 3.5% compared with the national
average earning of 1%
A Study By Brigham And Women s Hospital
A 2010 study by Brigham and Women s Hospital in Boston found that one in five
teens suffer from a hearing impairment, which is an increase of 33% from 1994
(Dignan). Earbuds and headphones have contributed to these numbers since using
these at loud volumes can damage ears over time. Earbuds and headphones have
caused loss of hearing, as a result, there should be a restriction on the highest volume
they can go.
To put this into perspective, hearing is an important function of the body, taking
many components to transfer the sound throughout the ear. There are three parts of an
ear, the outer, middle, and inner ear. The sound starts in the outer ear where it is
heard, then transmitted through the auditory system toward the eardrum. The ... Show

Many international health organizations say that this is the leading disability

different noises in one or both ears or in the head, with no external cause. There are
two types of tinnitus, objective or subjective. Subjective is usually connected with
hearing loss, since it means only the person experiencing the problem can hear the
sounds. There are many ways to test people to see if they have tinnitus or some
kind of hearing loss. A few ways are a physical examination of the person s head
and neck, The Rinne and Weber tests, magnetic resonance angiography or
venography, or a blood count ( Tinnitus ). These can tell which ear is damaged and

or those of persons or organizations with which they are affiliated.

Single celled organisms are small meaning that their surface area is big compared
to their volume. These organisms have a large surface area to volume ratio which
means that they can obtain different substances by diffusion through their relatively
large plasma membrane. The substances have to diffuse only short distances so
they can diffuse at a faster rate and meet the organism s needs. Multi cellular
organisms have a much smaller surface area to volume ratio. Many of their cells are
not in direct contact with their surroundings so they cannot solely rely on diffusion
to supply all of their organs with oxygen and nutrients, as the distance from their

What is blood pressure?
Blood pressure is a measure of the pressure exerted by the blood against artery walls.
Blood varies with heartbeat strength, age, blood volume, health and fitness. Blood
pressure is measured as two numbers, e.g. 120/80 these numbers represent systolic
and diastolic the big number is systolic which the blood pressure is during a

How does blood pressure affect health?
High blood pressure can make blood vessels more likely to burst, and can cause

Vertigo Essay
Vertigo (1958), directed by Alfred Hitchcock, is an American psychological thriller
film that communicates ideas, themes and issues through the use of its visual style.
The visual stylistic choices enable the exploration of madness, scopophilia and
feminist film theory within the film. This paper will critically analyse how this is
realised mainly through the use of the Vertigo effect , spirals as a motif, the male
gaze and colour.
The theme of madness is a centerpiece to the film. Vertigo was the first film to utilize
the dolly zoom or the Vertigo effect , an effect that is intended to create the
perception of disorientation (Wollen 1997, p.14). The effect is meant to be a
representation of Scottie s acrophobia. It conveys that he is falling away from
himself or to suggest that he is realizing that everything he once believed in is not
true (Wollen 1997, pp.14 15). Hitchcock also used the effect in the climax of the film

58). This has contributed to audience viewing the female body as an object. By the
end of the film it could be argued that Judy turns into a doll and Midge turns into a
painting. When Midge and Madeline get the rare opportunity in cinema to view
through the male gaze, they appear to be depressed when looking at portraits of
another women as the realize what men see them as.
Hitchcock however challenges the male gaze in this film. In a key scene in the
film about two thirds into it, Judy has a flashback which reveals to the audience
what actually did occur on top of the bell tower. This use of a female character
being afforded a flashback is uncharacteristic and not stereotypical in Hollywood
films at the time and can been seen as attempting to change the stereotype of the
male gaze (Wollen 1997, pp. 16 18). This challenges the male gaze due to the lead
female character not being seen as a passive object for the first time in the

of the contributions and inventions are frequently used today to aid our lives.
Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla were perhaps two of the best inventors, who
impacted our economy and society today. Their brilliant work offered a more
comfortable future for many all over the world. But who was the more significant
inventor? Both Tesla and Edison were significant because of their inspiration for
future inventors, and their contribution to today s society. In some instances,

While this may not seem to have played an important part, it did contribute to the
pursuit of remote controlled warfare, introduced by the Germans during World
War II (PBS). Finally, and perhaps the most influential, was the idea of limitless
free energy. Tesla s coil and tower were the basis for modern wireless
communication. His idea was that the universe was filled with free energy that
could be utilized to form a world wide web, connecting all people in all places, as
well as allow people to harness the free energy around them, (in Activist Post par. 9).
Without this, the revolution of wireless communication may have slowed to a halt. It
was also believed that Tesla had envisioned the idea for wireless internet, where he
described a system that collected information, encoded it and broadcasted that
information to a hand held device, according to IFL Science (IFL). Though Nikola
Tesla s inventions did impact today s society, many still debate whether Thomas
Edison had a bigger influence.
Thomas Edison often improved the work of other inventors. As a child, he worked
as a telegrapher and experimented in his free time. In 1874, Thomas Edison created
the quadruplex telegraph, a telegraph capable of sending four telegrams at once. Thai

Similarities Between Frederick Douglass And I Too Sing...
In the poems Frederick Douglass by Robert Hayden and I, Too, Sing America by
Langston Hughes, both authors engage in the common themes of race, oppression,
and freedom, but Hayden contextualizes the theme in a wider mindset instead of
narrowing it down to just black oppression, while Langston contextualizes the theme
with a direct approach to black oppression and freedom. Not only are the approaches
to the topic different, but they also relate through the messages that they are
conveying about freedom. Both authors way of engaging with the themes alters and
enrich the understanding of the issues at hand. They broaden the reader s scope on
race, prejudice, and freedom while informing the reader that it will take time.
Robert Hayden approaches the poem Frederick Douglass without using any direct
link to black oppression and freedom other than the famous figure Frederick
Douglass himself. This poem was written in 1966, and in that year several things
were happening in the United States with race relations. In 1966 the black power
movement had just started and there was a lot going on with the fight for equality
and freedom. I argue that Hayden used Frederick Douglass to mold this poem
because he is best known as a civil rights leader in the abolition movement and
Douglass stood for freedom (Douglass and Gates). Not only did he stand for black
freedom and equality, but he stood for all freedom and equality. Being as though
Douglass stood for all, I strongly believe that

It wasn t the right time or place for the Student for Peace to start a riot. If a person
is charged or arrested for doing something it matters what time and where was it
done. In Schenck v. United States (1919), Justice Holmes stated, What someone is
constitutionally allowed to do depends upon the time and place in which it is
done. This quote means that if someone is allowed to do something it all depends
on what time or place it was done. For example, a person can t just yell Fire in a
crowded movie theater if there isn t actually a fire. That would ve caused a lot of
chaos that can cause injuries and also death. It all depends on the time and place.
This applies to Student for Peace because it was a park and there was a festival. In

As mentioned within the paper, there are benefits to having services provided by
both public and private entities; however, there are also concerns. The public sector,
which was portrayed by services offered by TJJD, are required to provide yearly
reports. In many ways these reports keep the system accountable for the money
they are spending and the services they provide or require for juvenile offenders.
The reports are open to the public and are easily accessible. As it relates to
research, these reports allow people to critically assess juvenile programs, while
challenging the government to refine or create programs superior to the ones
offered in the past. Reports like these are harder to find regarding services offered
by private entities and is a concern. Programs in which juvenile offenders are
required to successfully complete, should never be determined by trial and error;
however, this is often the case. On a positive note, private entities and community
resources typically target the specific needs of a juvenile and include mental health
components. Programs which do not offer mental health services should be critically
assessed, as they are less likely to succeed. It is important that continued research is
applied to the programs offered by both the public and private sectors. As it stands

Orwell s 1984 is a fictitious dystopian novel which depicts a society under an
authoritarian rule. The general theme of Orwell in this novel is to alert readers to the
dangers of Fascism and the damage that it can inflict on societies. However, the more
important reason for writing such dystopian novel is to display how manipulating
language in Authoritarian societies can be used not only to control people s minds,
history, and memories, but also for shaping their ideas and emotions. Language
manipulation is apparent in the names of the Governmentministries that reveal the
opposite of their functions completely; the Ministry of Love is for torture, the

In 1979, Francis Coppola released a film that he said he hoped would give its
audience a sense of the horror, the madness, the sensuousness, and the moral dilemma
of the Vietnam war (as quoted in Hagen 230). His film, ApocalypseNow, based on
Joseph Conrad s 1902 novel Heart of Darkness, is the story of Captain Benjamin
Willard s (Martin Sheen) journey to the interior of the jungle of Southeastern Asia for
the purpose of executing his orders to track down Colonel Walter E. Kurtz (Marlon

primordial madness because of the forces of the Vietnam environment.
By analyzing the similarities between Mary Anne and Kurtz, we will be able to get
a better understanding as to why O Brien chose the theme of transformation and
what it can tell us about his feelings for the Vietnam war. Initially, when we are
introduced to both of the characters as their converted selves, both are living in
settings that reflect their psychological degeneration. As Willard arrives at Kurtz s

The Disciple Thomas
The disciple Thomas is a familiar Biblical character because of a specific incident
involving his disbelief. (John 20). Jesus had just risen from the dead and the rest of
the disciples were elated after seeing him. Thomas had not yet seen Jesus after His
resurrection and he was adamant that what his friends had witnessed couldn t be
true. Nevertheless, he did have a certain curiosity and willingly stayed with his
friends in hopes of seeing what they saw. He just could not bring himself to believe
that Jesushad truly risen from the dead. He would not believe without beholding
the Christ before his own eyes and touching his wounds with his own hands.
Thomas let his fear, anxiety, and what seemed like logic take hold of him, and he
had a hard time letting it all go. He needed proof to justify what God had told him
long ahead of time would happen. Thomas learned a great lesson the day that Jesus
appeared in the upper room before all of his disciples. He was told by his Master
that he would have been more blessed if he had only believed what he could not
see. As soon as Thomas felt Jesus wounds and saw him, he declared, My Lord and
my God (John 20.28). He was still greatly blessed, but not in the wonderful way that
God wanted him to be. What an important lesson for the Christian to learn;when God
says something, he means it and he doesn t intend to break his promise. Despite his
doubt, Thomas was chosen by Jesus for a reason and Jesus told him this himself in
John 15.16. He
The Pros And Cons Of Alternative Energy
The earth is in trouble. Pollution levels are at an all time high, and temperatures are
increasing at a rapid rate. Alternative energy will be the saving grace for planet earth,
and the only viable solution to a cleaner, brighter future. Alternative energy is the
only viable option for the future due to its independence from fossil fuels, reduced
pollution and reduced energy costs.
Background
Earth s population has been burning fossil fuels at a rapid rate with no regard to
damage being done to the earth s atmosphere. There are various types of fossil fuels
coal, petroleum and natural gas. These fossil fuels are derived from ancient plant
remains and dead animal carcasses that were buried deep in the earth s crust. After
thousands of years buried in the earth s crust, these remains are dug up from the
ground by various energy companies and then used to produce energy. To be clear,
energy companies are not digging up dead cats, dead dogs or dead palm trees and
then throwing them into a fire to create energy. The remains of the dead plants and
animals go through a fossilization process over thousands of years. These remains
then form coal and petroleum, or form pockets of natural gas in the ground which
can be used to make energy in the form of electricity. It s important to know that
these fossil fuels are not infinite and soon other ways to produce energy must be
considered.
When energy producing companies burn coal and petroleum, harmful greenhouse

Hobbes Vs America
Relating to Hobbes statement there are many reasons why a commonwealth is
similar to a state because in America there are four states that are identified as
commonwealths such as Kentucky, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. The
United States has many territories, but only two are commonwealths also such as
Northern Mariana Islands and Puerto Rico because for this term commonwealth
means a land that is united with the United States. For one past connection, the names
developed from the Revolutionary Warwhen the nation was a previous British
Province. For the whole system, commonwealth determines an organized political
association, which is what we call a state today. Many people still use the name
commonwealth throughout these states for example that is why there is a college
called Virginia Commonwealth University and another called Virginia State
University. Hobbes dictated that civilization does need a leader to represent them.

Abortion Is A Social Issue
Good evening, in a landmark ruling today the Supreme Court Legalized Abortions.
The majority in cases from Texas and Georgia said that the decision to end a
pregnancy during the first three months belongs to the woman and her doctor. Not
the government. Too many the debate over the concerns of abortion begin with Roe
vs Wade, but the controversy has been with us for centuries. Ancient cultures
addressed it. Even Plato and Aristotle spoke of terminating pregnancies both for and
against depending on the mother s health and when life begins. In the 1700 s America
under British common law permitted abortionbefore quickening or, before fetal
movement could be detected. But by the mid 19th century nearly all states had

There are so many different beliefs about when human life begins. These beliefs and
ideas have all affected the morality of this issue. It is obvious why abortion is such a
socio ethical issue with both sides continuously fighting each other over its legality.
After research I believe that women should have the choice when it comes to
surrendering their bodies to hindrance of pregnancy.
In the US around, fifty one percent of pregnancies are unintended. With thirty one
percent of those being unwanted. This statistic comes from the CDC. It is an
unfortunate thing that, that many pregnancies go unwanted, but within those
unwanted pregnancies rape does play a role. Five percent of rape victims do occur
an unwanted. In the United States there are options and one of those options is of
course giving your child away for adoption, but women should have more options.
Women should have the option to have abortion and other pro life choices. They
should have the right to choose the options they want. There are numerous things that
could assist them. There s medical, financial disadvantages that come along with
having a child dealing with a pro nine months and very large social stigmas that affect
their lives.

Use Of Irony In The Gift Of The Magi

Everybody loves Christmas. The suspense of not knowing what is under the
wrapping paper drives us absolutely wild. The joy of spending time with family,
friends, and your significant other is the best! But why do loved ones give each
other gifts? In O Henry s short story The Gift of the Magi, two young lovers sacrifice
their own most prized possessions to get the other a Christmas gift. Ironically, each
one gets the other a gift to be used for their prized possession; however, the gifts
cannot be used because they no longer have any use. Author O Henry uses irony to
enhance, or magnify, the true meaning of Christmas: to selflessly give to someone
you love to show your love for them.

Even though Della and Jim made unwise choices in how to finance their gifts for
one another, they were the wisest in the sense that they sacrificed their own most

for each other the greatest treasures of their house. (Page 251) The narrator claims
that Della and Jim unwisely gave up their valuables to display their love for one

are wisest. Everywhere they are the wisest. They are the magi. (Page 251) The
whole theme of the story is stated here by the narrator. He alludes to the Magi, or
wisemen who bring the best gifts, but the narrator stated that Jim and Della gave
the best gift of all, and they are wiser than the Magi. Besides the fact that Jim and
Della were wise to sacrifice their own prized possessions for each other, the way that
they handled the situation and still loved each other after shows true wisdom. After

The Importance Of Fairy Tales
Fairy Tale s Favorable Information Fairy tales are important due to the ability to
enhance a child s imagination and artistic intellect. On a deeper note, however, they
allow for the development of critical thinking skills, which, in turn, allow for children
to make logical decisions based on the choices that the characters make within the
tale. They see the actions that the characters engage in and, as a result, the
consequences that follow, which allows them to analyze what happened and why. In

Moreover, Cinderella continues showing signs of good faith. Her love for her step
sisters is grandiose. Cinderella s behavior inculcates that everyone should be
treated with love and respect. She does a grand gesture demonstrating that her
intentions are pure. According to Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, Cinderella, who was
good as she was beautiful, gave her two sisters a home in the palace, and that very
same day married them to two great lords of the court (9). Cinderella s love
towards her step sisters is unconditional and her actions speaks for themselves.
Instead of punishing her sisters, in a sense, she is giving them a second chance.
As stated before, Cinderella shows that love and compassion is what every human
being should receive, regardless of their prior actions. Further, fairy tales, without
a doubt, teach valuable lessons about being weary of strangers. Stranger danger is,
indeed, something that all children should know about. In Snow White and the
Seven Dwarfs, the concept of strangers being potentially dangerous is clearly
depicted through the actions of the evil queen. The dwarfs, for example, give
Snow White explicit safety precautions. According to Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm,
Once again they warned her to be on guard and not to open the door for anyone

she must adhere to if she wants to stay safe. As children read this, they, too, can learn

Let s Talk About Love Chapter 1 Analysis
Let s Talk about Love: A Journey to the End of Taste centers on Carl Wilson s quest
to discover why we like and dislike certain aspects of our larger culture. Within this
search he finds how cultural taste relates to how humans perceive both each other
and themselves. Each chapter is an exploration into one part of taste and how it
relates to the world beyond the book. In Chapter 7, Wilson explores objectivity.
Specifically, he asks: is there any objectivity in artistic taste? (Wilson 75). In other
words, Wilson is questioning whether objectivity can exist at all in the artistic sphere,
or if taste is ultimately ruled by subjectivity and bias. In addition to this question,
Wilson also asks how the existenceof objectivity or lack thereof... Show more content

the claim that the mechanisms of democracy are hopeless for art (Wilson 78). In
the United States and much of the Western world, democracy is the only way to be
truly objective. The people choose the objectively best leaders of a given country. It
becomes clear that democracy as objectivity cannot be translated to discussions of
artistic taste. This means there is at least one way in which trying to find objectivity
in artistic taste fails. Later, Wilson describes how what is considered tasteful is often
the result of the part mimesis imitation plays in taste (Wilson 81). As humans we are

primary basis of accounting for inventories is cost, which has been defined
generally as the price paid or consideration given to acquire an asset. As applied to

Tone Of George Gascoigne Tone
Throughout this poem, sixteenth century poet George Gascoigne, reveals to his
audience what he is experiencing and the emotions that coincide. It is likely that
Gascoigne is both the author and speaker of this piece, and conveys his complex
attitude through different devices. His attitude is conflicting because of his
combination of being both reluctant but still tempted. Through his use of
expressive diction and comparisons, his audience is able to better understand the
issues that he is faced with. Gascoigne doesn t seem like he s trying to sugarcoat
the way he is feeling. He makes it clear that he is in a state of sadness or regret.
Through his diction, it is evident that he feels this way because of all the
descriptive words he uses. Early in the poem he says, To see me hold my louring
head so low. (Gascoigne 2) Through his use of the wordlouring, one can make the
straightforward assumption that he is more than just upset. The word holds a weight
that suggests he is sullen, his whole mood is currently negatively affected because
of the situation he is in. He has to purposely restrict himself from looking at the
woman, which could generate further pain. Later in the poem, he says Because your
blazing eyes my bale have bred. (Gascoigne 14) The word bale conveys that this
other person has caused him misery. Misery expresses more than just temporary
sadness, but rather prolonged feelings of emotional pain. This isn t just a minor
inconvenience to him, but rather
The Opening Sequence of the Coen Brothers Movie O
brother...
The Opening Sequence of the Coen Brothers Movie O brother Where art Thou?
O brother where art thou? has a unique storyline based on Homer s classic tale of
The Odyssey , which is one story made up of short chapters , each relating a
different adventure. In this story Ulysses, (who Everett McGill is based on) and his
companions (who are the two men, Delmar and Pete, chained to Everett) are trying
to get back home, however they anger the Gods and their journey is lengthened.
They get lured by the Sirens, captured by a Cyclops and have lots of near death
experiences.
The film is set in the 1930 s, in the southern states of America during the Depression.

When the credits start to roll there is noise of rocks being smashed. The slave
songs are heard before the audience can see the picture. The slaves are singing the
blues. (Blues are songs that are full of sorrow) This could be effective because the
audience could grasp even before the picture emerged that the people who were
singing were made to do hard labour. The picture then merges in to show a black and
white long shot of a landscape. The camera pans rounds and the audience see a shot
of two lines of prisoners doing hard labour, then a low angle shot shows them
chained together. This could explain to the audience why none of the prisoners are
trying escape.
When the audience has seen the prisoners the camera goes into a wide angle shot
and shows three men running across a field and then jumping down. This can be
quite comical as they are being very obvious and could easily be seen but never do.
There is a non diegetic sound, which is used at the start when they are escaping.
This is Bluegrass or country and western music. The song talks about an imaginary
place, a land of dreams. There is a parallel here with Everett and his companions. As
they were all chained together, in order to persuade them to agree to escape with
him, he tells them that he has stolen $1.2 million and that they can have a share in the
treasure. The trouble is that they only have four days to get
Oman And The Middle East Stratum
Over the past thousand years, Oman has occupied a key strategic space in the Middle
East stratum. With its vast mountain ranges, desert terrain, and steep cliffs along the
coast, Oman over the years has proven to be very difficult to invade. This has allowed
Oman to repel the majority of attacks from foreign militaries and maintain their
sovereignty. The Southern and Eastern coastline of the country represents the key
that makes Omanso important to the strength of the Middle East. Oman is a major
piece to the peace in the Middle East. Oman lies in the southeast corner of the Arabian
Peninsula right on the Tropic of Cancer latitude line (International, 2011). Yemen,
Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emiratesborder Oman from the southeast, west,
and the north. Oman also claims many islands in the Arabian Sea and in the Strait of
Hormuz off Oman s northern tip. Similar to its surrounding nations, Oman has a
mountain range that spans the country. The Hajar mountain range begins at the north
west tip and extends down its western border to the southwest, near Yemen
(International, 2011). The Omanis compare The Hajar to a human backbone, for it
forms a great arc much like the human skeleton. The Interior of Oman is mostly sand
dunes, rocks, and gravel, which is very similar to the entire Middle East region
(International, 2011). Oman s coastline stretches 1,700 km from North to South. Low
hills and wastelands with little vegetation is what fill these coastlines

Henry Ford Industry Research Paper
Henry Ford and the Expansion of the Ford Industry Ford, the name almost every
person in America associates with the successful car industry. However, not
everyone understands how Henry Ford made the world wide business as we see it
today. Nearly a century ago Henry Ford and his son Edsel procured blazing
success for the Ford car industry from 1920 to 1924, to end up re nurturing the
flickering flame from 1925 to 1929, while also benefiting and promoting other
industries of the time. When the Ford company entered the 1920 s, they were
struggling to get past financial difficulties. To buy out minority stockholders and to
begin work on a new factory on the Rouge, Ford had to take out a sixty million
dollar loan. The deadline for repaying this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They even made sure to secure several miles of railroads to transport their materials
back and forth (Geldermen). Edsel invested his time and money in ventures that he
thought would benefit others, including the Roscoe B. Jackson Cancer research
Center in Bar Harbor, Maine (Bak 128). According to The Age of Automobiles ,
the demand of cars created a demand for more and longer roads. This resulted in the
first large scale concepts of highways. Along with highways came the conveniences
needed to accompany longer trips. These being gas stations, motels, and the first
fast food shops. The huge amount of cars that Ford and their competitors were
putting out had to have these accommodations or else sales wouldn t nearly be as
high as they were. Geldermen also explained the rise of the timber production, the
surge of sawmills, the increase of freighters to carry the materials, and the demand
for glass work were due to the cars being produced. The Age of Automobiles also
suggests that vacationing and traveling increased productivity in places most
visited. Understanding how the Ford automotive company rose and fell can help
see how the businesses were always changing in the 1920 s and how a strong
business can last for a very long time once a dedicated person establishes it. Overall
the Ford company almost always increased in size. The cars produced by this
company are still iconic in today s world and show a past of determination. Why
walk when you can

Essays On Tolerance. . Fantastic Tolerance Essay Thatsnotus

  • 1. Essays On Tolerance Crafting an essay on the theme of tolerance presents both intellectual and emotional challenges. Tolerance is a multifaceted concept, entailing a nuanced exploration of acceptance, understanding, and coexistence in a diverse world. To delve into this topic effectively, one must navigate the complexities of cultural, social, and ideological differences. The difficulty lies not only in defining tolerance but also in dissecting its various manifestations across different contexts. Whether it be tolerance in the face of religious diversity, racial differences, or ideological discrepancies, the essay must address the subtleties and intricacies inherent in each scenario. Moreover, striking the right balance between advocating for tolerance and acknowledging the limitations of absolute acceptance requires finesse. Additionally, writing an essay on tolerance necessitates a delicate handling of sensitive subjects. Tackling issues like discrimination, prejudice, and intolerance can evoke strong emotions, and crafting a piece that fosters understanding without unintentionally perpetuating stereotypes is a challenge. Striving for objectivity while promoting empathy adds another layer of complexity to the writing process. Furthermore, it's crucial to avoid superficial treatment of the topic. A meaningful exploration of tolerance demands thorough research and a comprehensive understanding of historical and contemporary perspectives. The essay should reflect a deep engagement with the subject matter, offering insightful analyses that go beyond clichГ©s or oversimplified notions of tolerance. In terms of personal expression, finding the right tone is crucial. Balancing an academic tone with a human touch is challenging when discussing a topic that is inherently tied to human emotions and experiences. The writer must connect with the audience on an emotional level while maintaining the integrity of their arguments. In conclusion, writing an essay on tolerance is no easy task. It involves grappling with the complexities of diversity, navigating emotionally charged subjects, and maintaining a delicate balance between objectivity and empathy. However, the endeavor is rewarding, as it offers an opportunity to contribute to the discourse on fostering a more inclusive and understanding society. And for those seeking assistance with essays or similar projects, a variety of resources are available. Platforms like HelpWriting.net provide a range of services to support individuals in their academic endeavors, offering expert guidance on crafting well-researched and compelling essays on a multitude of topics. • 2. Deep Vein Thrombosis Research Paper Deep vein thrombosis (also known as DVT ) occurs when a blood clot (thrombus) forms in one or more of the deep veins in the body, however usually it often occurs in the legs. The most common symptom is leg pain or swelling, but it can also occur without any symptoms. Sometimes certain medical conditions can affect the development of DVT, especially if the condition has to do with how the bloodclots. Another way DVT can come about is if someone does not move for a long time, such as a patient who is be confined to a hospital bed. Deep veinthrombosis is very serious because blood clots in the veins can break loose, travel through the blood stream, and possibly lodge into the lungs, which in turn blocks the blood flow causing a possible pulmonary embolism. When diagnosing a lower extremity deep vein thrombosison a patient, ultrasound is rated number one out of the various diagnostic imaging modalities. MRI and CT are tied for the second highest rating... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the ultrasound has findings, or if there are clinical symptoms that suggest proximal disease (iliocaval), then an x ray venogram of the pelvis may be performed. However, it is not the method of choice. This is beneficial though because compared to CT, it uses a significant less amount of radiation. It still uses radiation, but not as much. The lowest rating in the rankings is x ray venography of the lower extremity. This exam is generally used in conjunction with thrombolysis. Thrombolysis is a treatment to dissolve dangerous clots in the blood vessels to improve blood flow and prevent damage to the tissues and organs. It may involve the injection of clot busting drugs through an intravenous line or through a long catheter that delivers drugs directly to the site of the blockage. These types of exams are not as common as the use of an MRI or CT machine may be because of the severity of a
  • 3. How The American Revolution Changed After The French... The definition of the word revolution has itself evolved significantly over the course of the American and French revolutions. Prior to the French Revolution, the word meant the process of coming a full cycle, or a return to a point previously occupied (Kirk 295). It is only after the chaotic French revolution which overturned the old political and social order in the country that revolution came to be known as a radical change in social and government institutions. Since we are analyzing the American Revolution from the perspective of the events of the French, it is apt to use the interpretation of the word that came into being post the French revolution. The French Revolution was starkly different to its American counterpart. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consequently, few social changes were needed in the eyes of the founders following the revolution (Schweikart and Dougherty 4). The American War of Independence may be viewed as a rebellion as opposed to a revolution. In On Revolutions, Hannah Arendt says about medieval and post medieval rebellion Rebellion was not a challenge of authority or the established order of things as such; it was always a matter of exchanging the person who happened to be in authority (41). The American Revolution too was a case of exchanging the person of authority, the King, for someone else.
  • 4. Arendt did also note, however, that the people had never in the past been able to decide who should be their ruler and more significantly, to appoint a person from their own ranks for the business of the government. This may be considered, in the French sense of the word, revolutionary. If anything, it was one of the few revolutionary aspects of the American Revolution. While this may be true, the statement that all men are born equal in the Declaration of Independence is not too revolutionary at all when closer examined. Firstly, only white men

The Legend Of Galveston Island-Personal Narrative As I stared at the once working cartridge in my hands, I felt as though someone had had snapped a chord inside of me; my cheeks ached from suppressed tears. I looked up at my dad, hoping he could fix it for me. However, he simply shook his head and said, I m sorry, I can t. But Eli said a friend of his left their gamein their pockets and it went through the wash cycle and it still worked afterward, I replied, desperately hoping for any bit of good news to save my precious game as I began to lose control of the floodgates on my face. Brandon, he soothed, This was a hurricane. It s a lot worse than a wash cycle. After trying desperately to fix my most prized PokГ©mon game for 30 minutes, but to no avail, I buried my face into my dad s shoulder and started to bawl. I would not know until years later that he cried too, not because I had lost my game, but because he felt powerless to help me feel better when I needed him to fix something the most. I was eleven years old after hurricane Ike had devastated GalvestonIsland. Before that point, I never realized how much the seemingly silly game that my cousin had introduced me to meant to me. I thought back to the times before Ike came, before I lost my game, before the storm that destroyed cartridge that I held so dear even... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I recalled how well I was able to cope with the evacuation from my home, the troubling times that came after Ike, and the tragedies that followed after that

The widespread growth of blogs, social media and user generated content have influenced the site. The website CNN helped us find the observations (what) , examples (how) , analysis (why) to rhetorical concepts. We figured out how to use the concepts and how not to use the concepts. The rhetorical concepts are audience, purpose, Ethos, Logos, and Pathos. By observing the website CNN the audience is mainly for politicians and students. The reason the audience is politicians and students is because of the titles such as Today in politics which are for politicians. The titles such as Top stories help to inform students to create research papers. Symbols And Symbols In The Book The Shawl Shelby McCrory Ms. Corbin English 102 February 4, 2015 The Shawl and Symbols In the book The Shawl a family of a mother and two children are trying to survive during the Holocaust. It proves that humans strongest instinct is the will to survive and apparently the shawl is the only way to accomplish this. Throughout the story survival is linked back to the shawl itself. The main focus of the story is having the shawl and using it to survive. The shawl is a symbol of many things, but most importantly it is a symbol of protection, a symbol of comfort, and a symbol of nourishment. Throughout the story it is obvious that the shawl is thought of as a symbol of protection. She looked into Magda s face through a gap in the shawl: a squirrel in a nest, safe no one could reach her... (247). From Rosa s statement it is easily known that the shawl is complete protection to Magda. As long as she is covered and wrapped in the shawl she thinks she is protected, and it becomes obvious that she is as long as she remains in it. ... She might drop the shawl, and Magda would fall out and strike her head and die (247). This symbolizes that the shawl is the only thing protecting her from death itself. • 11. The Enterprise And Regulatory Reform Bill As of October 2013 the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Bill was amended by parliament under the proposal of Vince Cable , the new powers gave shareholders a binding vote on executive compensation , this meant that any changes in executive pay required a 50% shareholders approval. Before this shareholders votes on such matters were advisory , this meant even if there was a vote against executive pay they could still be increased regardless. This is significant as it shows a change in peoples perception on the role of shareholders within a company and leads to the point if this is correct. One of the main reason for such a change in the bill was many of the public felt that executive s were over paid, The average FTSE 100 chief... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the view of many these increases of there pay were not justified , and was a contrast to shareholders investment money going down in value due to decrease in share prices of the company. What this showed was in some instances the objective of the executive s were given priority of the shareholder which ultimately led to the shareholders losing out , and so introducing such power allowed shareholders to allocate pay rewards more closely aligned with corporate objectives and performance. These reasons overall echo the idea that it allows shareholders to have a greater say on how the company should be run by controlling the pay of executives as before this shareholders would be very limited in the say of pay with the only option being to replace committee members and directors. This in itself would not be a likely option as it could become costly in the long run and create uncertainty which may have more negative impacts. One of the reasons to give such measures was to reduce such excessive pay packages to executive so the question to ask is whether these reforms introduced since 2013 has actually worked. According to PWC at the end of 2013 percentage base pay increase of main board members increased by 3.5% compared with the national average earning of 1%

A Study By Brigham And Women s Hospital A 2010 study by Brigham and Women s Hospital in Boston found that one in five teens suffer from a hearing impairment, which is an increase of 33% from 1994 (Dignan). Earbuds and headphones have contributed to these numbers since using these at loud volumes can damage ears over time. Earbuds and headphones have caused loss of hearing, as a result, there should be a restriction on the highest volume they can go. To put this into perspective, hearing is an important function of the body, taking many components to transfer the sound throughout the ear. • 19. Vertigo Essay Vertigo (1958), directed by Alfred Hitchcock, is an American psychological thriller film that communicates ideas, themes and issues through the use of its visual style. The visual stylistic choices enable the exploration of madness, scopophilia and feminist film theory within the film. This paper will critically analyse how this is realised mainly through the use of the Vertigo effect , spirals as a motif, the male gaze and colour. The theme of madness is a centerpiece to the film. Vertigo was the first film to utilize the dolly zoom or the Vertigo effect , an effect that is intended to create the perception of disorientation (Wollen 1997, p.14). The effect is meant to be a representation of Scottie s acrophobia. It conveys that he is falling away from himself or to suggest that he is realizing that everything he once believed in is not true (Wollen 1997, pp.14 15). Hitchcock also used the effect in the climax of the film when Scottie looks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 58). This has contributed to audience viewing the female body as an object. When Midge and Madeline get the rare opportunity in cinema to view through the male gaze, they appear to be depressed when looking at portraits of another women as the realize what men see them as. Hitchcock however challenges the male gaze in this film. In a key scene in the film about two thirds into it, Judy has a flashback which reveals to the audience what actually did occur on top of the bell tower. This use of a female character being afforded a flashback is uncharacteristic and not stereotypical in Hollywood films at the time and can been seen as attempting to change the stereotype of the male gaze (Wollen 1997, pp. 16 18). This challenges the male gaze due to the lead female character not being seen as a passive object for the first time in the

While this may not seem to have played an important part, it did contribute to the pursuit of remote controlled warfare, introduced by the Germans during World War II (PBS). Finally, and perhaps the most influential, was the idea of limitless free energy. Tesla s coil and tower were the basis for modern wireless communication. His idea was that the universe was filled with free energy that could be utilized to form a world wide web, connecting all people in all places, as well as allow people to harness the free energy around them, (in Activist Post par. 9). Without this, the revolution of wireless communication may have slowed to a halt. It was also believed that Tesla had envisioned the idea for wireless internet, where he described a system that collected information, encoded it and broadcasted that information to a hand held device, according to IFL Science (IFL). Though Nikola Tesla s inventions did impact today s society, many still debate whether Thomas Edison had a bigger influence. Thomas Edison often improved the work of other inventors. As a child, he worked as a telegrapher and experimented in his free time. In 1874, Thomas Edison created the quadruplex telegraph, a telegraph capable of sending four telegrams at once. In the poems Frederick Douglass by Robert Hayden and I, Too, Sing America by Langston Hughes, both authors engage in the common themes of race, oppression, and freedom, but Hayden contextualizes the theme in a wider mindset instead of narrowing it down to just black oppression, while Langston contextualizes the theme with a direct approach to black oppression and freedom. Not only are the approaches to the topic different, but they also relate through the messages that they are conveying about freedom. Both authors way of engaging with the themes alters and enrich the understanding of the issues at hand. They broaden the reader s scope on race, prejudice, and freedom while informing the reader that it will take time. Robert Hayden approaches the poem Frederick Douglass without using any direct link to black oppression and freedom other than the famous figure Frederick Douglass himself. This poem was written in 1966, and in that year several things were happening in the United States with race relations. In 1966 the black power movement had just started and there was a lot going on with the fight for equality and freedom. I argue that Hayden used Frederick Douglass to mold this poem because he is best known as a civil rights leader in the abolition movement and Douglass stood for freedom (Douglass and Gates). Not only did he stand for black freedom and equality, but he stood for all freedom and equality. Being as though Douglass stood for all, I strongly believe that

Background Earth s population has been burning fossil fuels at a rapid rate with no regard to damage being done to the earth s atmosphere. There are various types of fossil fuels coal, petroleum and natural gas. These fossil fuels are derived from ancient plant remains and dead animal carcasses that were buried deep in the earth s crust. After thousands of years buried in the earth s crust, these remains are dug up from the ground by various energy companies and then used to produce energy. To be clear, energy companies are not digging up dead cats, dead dogs or dead palm trees and then throwing them into a fire to create energy. The dwarfs, for example, give Snow White explicit safety precautions. According to Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, Once again they warned her to be on guard and not to open the door for anyone (143). For the sake of Snow White s protection, she is given a set of rules to which she must adhere to if she wants to stay safe. As children read this, they, too, can learn from Snow White s
  • 38. Life Styles Inventory Interpretation Essay The Life Styles Inventory Survey is assessed to allow me to answer the question of, Who am I, and what causes me to act the way that I do. It gives an insight to one s personality and an insight as to how we may treat others. By giving my honest opinion of several questions the results are going to give me an insight on how my thinking styles will influence my behavior as a manager and allow me to use the results for self improvement. My results show that I Research has shown that the styles measured by the LSI are related to a number of indicators of effectiveness and success, including leadership effectiveness, management effectiveness, problem solving effectiveness, quality of interpersonal relations, salary, organizational... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within the LSI it listed descriptive words of each style and the words that are associated with the achievement style were very descriptive of me. Words such as, ambitious, achieving, enjoys a challenge, learns from mistakes and corrects, and many others were very accurate. I am all of these things and I strive for being the best and doing it better. An example of this is, in my job, there is training involved and the way that it was done prior to me joining the team was not effective, at least not to me and as mentioned by the clients, neither to some of them. So, I took it upon myself to make it better and I came up with my own documents that would assist the client in learning the new material. I have received very good feedback from it and it is now used by everyone on our team. Not only is this achievement style shown in my work habits, but it is also shown in my day to day life. I love to accomplish and to get things done. Whether, it is beating a game or simply accomplishing a task, of say, painting a room in my house. I tend not to let anything stand in my way of achieving something that I have set forth to do. I can completely agree that this style ranked the highest for me in this survey. My backup thinking style, which falls one hour behind my primary, at the 10 o clock position, was perfectionistic. This style did not rank as high as my primary, but, with a score of 24 out of 40, it still fell pretty high at the 75%

Luke leaves the reader with Paul in Rome, waiting to present his case before Caesar. Acts had been completed long before Paul s outcome was known, this means that Acts came about in the early sixties with the Gospel of Lukebeing written in the late fifties or early sixties. It shows how throughout the Gospel Jesus is shown as a helper and how the parables have meaning to them. The Gospel of Luke teaches us about life, and how Jesus had helped so many, and how we can follow in Jesus footsteps and continue to do what he has done, through the parables that Luke has written in the

Let s Talk About Love Chapter 1 Analysis Let s Talk about Love: A Journey to the End of Taste centers on Carl Wilson s quest to discover why we like and dislike certain aspects of our larger culture. Within this search he finds how cultural taste relates to how humans perceive both each other and themselves. Each chapter is an exploration into one part of taste and how it relates to the world beyond the book. In Chapter 7, Wilson explores objectivity. Specifically, he asks: is there any objectivity in artistic taste? (Wilson 75). In other words, Wilson is questioning whether objectivity can exist at all in the artistic sphere, or if taste is ultimately ruled by subjectivity and bias. In addition to this question, Wilson also asks how the existenceof objectivity or lack thereof... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wilson describes a project performed by two Russian artists who created an America s Most Wanted painting and song based on what voters most enjoyed seeing and hearing. The products of these polls were nowhere near the works that critics considered objectively tasteful and, in fact, most would not find the poll products pleasing to the eye or ear. The results of the project lead Wilson to make the claim that the mechanisms of democracy are hopeless for art (Wilson 78). In the United States and much of the Western world, democracy is the only way to be truly objective. The people choose the objectively best leaders of a given country. It becomes clear that democracy as objectivity cannot be translated to discussions of artistic taste. This means there is at least one way in which trying to find objectivity in artistic taste fails. Later, Wilson describes how what is considered tasteful is often the result of the part mimesis imitation plays in taste (Wilson 81). As humans we are curious what everybody else is hearing, want to belong, want to have things in common [with others] to talk about and are in

It is likely that Gascoigne is both the author and speaker of this piece, and conveys his complex attitude through different devices. His attitude is conflicting because of his combination of being both reluctant but still tempted. Through his use of expressive diction and comparisons, his audience is able to better understand the issues that he is faced with. Gascoigne doesn t seem like he s trying to sugarcoat the way he is feeling. He makes it clear that he is in a state of sadness or regret. Through his diction, it is evident that he feels this way because of all the descriptive words he uses. Early in the poem he says, To see me hold my louring head so low. (Gascoigne 2) Through his use of the wordlouring, one can make the straightforward assumption that he is more than just upset. The word holds a weight that suggests he is sullen, his whole mood is currently negatively affected because of the situation he is in. He has to purposely restrict himself from looking at the woman, which could generate further pain. Later in the poem, he says Because your blazing eyes my bale have bred. (Gascoigne 14) The word bale conveys that this other person has caused him misery. Misery expresses more than just temporary sadness, but rather prolonged feelings of emotional pain. This isn t just a minor inconvenience to him, but rather

The slave songs are heard before the audience can see the picture. The slaves are singing the blues. (Blues are songs that are full of sorrow) This could be effective because the audience could grasp even before the picture emerged that the people who were singing were made to do hard labour. The picture then merges in to show a black and white long shot of a landscape. The camera pans rounds and the audience see a shot of two lines of prisoners doing hard labour, then a low angle shot shows them chained together. This could explain to the audience why none of the prisoners are trying escape. When the audience has seen the prisoners the camera goes into a wide angle shot and shows three men running across a field and then jumping down. With its vast mountain ranges, desert terrain, and steep cliffs along the coast, Oman over the years has proven to be very difficult to invade. This has allowed Oman to repel the majority of attacks from foreign militaries and maintain their sovereignty. The Southern and Eastern coastline of the country represents the key that makes Omanso important to the strength of the Middle East. Oman is a major piece to the peace in the Middle East. Oman lies in the southeast corner of the Arabian Peninsula right on the Tropic of Cancer latitude line (International, 2011). Oman also claims many islands in the Arabian Sea and in the Strait of Hormuz off Oman s northern tip. Similar to its surrounding nations, Oman has a mountain range that spans the country. The Hajar mountain range begins at the north west tip and extends down its western border to the southwest, near Yemen (International, 2011). The Omanis compare The Hajar to a human backbone, for it forms a great arc much like the human skeleton. According to The Age of Automobiles , the demand of cars created a demand for more and longer roads. This resulted in the first large scale concepts of highways. Along with highways came the conveniences needed to accompany longer trips. These being gas stations, motels, and the first fast food shops. The huge amount of cars that Ford and their competitors were putting out had to have these accommodations or else sales wouldn t nearly be as high as they were.
