My upbringing is atypical compared to most white, middle class females, I would

In the play Hamlet there are many themes that were brought to our attention;
Madness, Revenge, Mortality, Religion, Incest, Family, and Death. In this essay we
will be discussing two of these themes that we found intriguing, the two themes are

During the conference, I was interested in the presentation by Zita Dove and Dean
MacMullin about working at the Defense Construction Canada (DCC). Zita Dove
was explaining the company that they work for and how they have 33 work sites
with almost 1000 people working at those sites. The DCC is a construction company
who works for the Department of National Defense (DND). The DND contracts the
DCC to do their construction. Since the DCC works for the DND they are working
in a securityzone. The construction sites are within the military grounds. With the
construction being on military rounds the workers needto have the specific security
clearance needed to enter the grounds they are working on. This leads to where there

This method usually increases the global contrast of many images, especially when
the usable data of the image is represented by close contrast values. Through this
adjustment, the intensities can be better distributed on the histogram. This allows for
areas of lower local contrast to gain a higher contrast. Histogram equalization
accomplishes this by effectively spreading out the most frequent intensity values.
The method is useful in images with backgrounds and foregrounds that are both
bright or both dark. In particular, the method can lead to better views of bone

Drake s campus is located on a 150 acre property in Polk County and is
approximately 5 miles from the center of Des Moines, Iowa. The campus has 84

The Battle of Yorktown was one of the most significant battles of the American
Revolution. Not only was it a major battle that helped end the war but also showed
the power of the Continental Army s field artillery. The battle was a major turning
point in establishing the freedom of the United States of America and was the last
major battle of the war. The Continental and French forces moved to Yorktown on 28
September 1781, however the first shot was not fired until 9 October of 1781. It was
roughly ten days of continuous artilleryfire that helped demoralize the British forces,

Cornwallis led his army to Yorktown to try and establish a deep sea port for British

marched his army of 7,000 troops to the harbor town of Yorktown located next to
the York River in Virginia. His original mission was to receive reinforcements and

Farmer s Of Cattle Farm
Farmer E raises only 20 head of cattle making them the smallest farmer interviewed
and the least amount of time raising beef at only eight years. The cattle are also
mostly grass fed like the other farmers but they receive less than market price
because of the breed of cattle raised not being in high demand at market. Farmers
usually receive approximately $1.50 per pound but he gets about $1 per pound
instead. When asked if they would ever think to process and sell their meatthey
mentioned they had previously considered it but saw other locals and fail. This
dissuaded the farmer from trying to sell his own beefalthough he has taken beef
management classes to do so. The risk was too high for Farmer E once seeing the
failure and decided to stay with calf cow farming to not have to add new costs with
what they thought would be little return.
Farmer F Farmer F was the last calf cow farmer interviewed who raises
approximately 110 head of cattle. This farmer expects only about 80 85 cents per
pound for cow and $1.20 per calf. The cattle raised on this farm are mostly grass
fed that is supplemented with grain when needed. The farmer has been raising
cattle since they were a kid 20 30 years at the farm. This farmer sells many
vegetables at the farmers market but currently only sells her beef at auction. They
are working on getting into finishing and processing meat to sell and would bring the
beef to market but would only want to bring what is already guaranteed to sell unlike

The Holocaust Was A Mass Murder
The Holocaust was a mass murder in which about six million Jews were murdered
under the command of Adolf Hitler. This took place throughout German occupied
territories from 1939 to 1945. Before taken to concentration and death camps, Jews
were placed into ghettos, which were set up in order to confine and segregate them
into small towns or cities. The main notion for this action was to dehumanize the Jews
and to rid them of the human population. If Adolf Hitlerhad not come up with the idea
of placing Jews into ghettos, then the Holocaustwould not have been violent as it was.
Jakob the Liar is set in Poland of 1944, and a Jewish man is caught outside after
curfew. Because of this, he was then shipped to the ghetto headquarters. While
waiting for a German officer, he overhears a forbidden radio broadcast about Russian
troops planning a fluctuation. Once within the ghetto, he shares the new information
with a confident, but a rumor is soon spread across the ghetto saying there is a
secret radio inside the ghetto. Eventually, there is a new sense of hope in the ghetto
and he realizes it helps everybody get through the day knowing there is a chance of
being liberated. When German troops find out of these rumors, they become sure
there is a Jew who has secret communication hidden somewhere, and are determined

Introduction
English ability is gradually becoming more compulsory for various jobs as an
international lingua franca because of globalisation (Silver, Hu and Iron, 2002:81).
In this globalising world, the English Education in Japan (EEJ) has been censured
since the turn of the century (Kikuchi and Charles, 2009:173). The biggest failure is
communicative language skill. For example, people who graduated from high school
cannot easily have daily talks in English though they have learned it for a minimum
of 6 years before (Hosoki, 2011:199). In addition, the TOEFL score in Japan is the
fourth lowest out of thirty one Asian counties (Appendix1), and the speaking score in
Japan is the lowest of them (Education Teaching Service, 2017). These failures are
described as the result of poor English education.
Although much research about failures in EEJ has been done, there is little
research to compare with other countries. In this research, EEJ will be compared
with Singapore and South Korea Singapore, which rank higher in the world s
largest ranking of countries by English skills (Ef.co.uk, 2017). The aim of this
research is to address factors that contribute towards poor English in Japan and to
discover solutions by analysing education systems in Singapore and South Korea.
Firstly, EEJ will be analysed in terms of its failures. Secondly, the strength of the
education in Singapore and South Korea is to be analysed. Lastly, this research will
provide some solutions as to how Japan can implement these findings in the English
education system.

English education policy in Japan
Although Japan has been making great effort to develop English education, EEJ has
not seen much success yet. For example, The Japan Exchange and Teaching
Programme (JET programme), which was adopted in 1987 as the English education
policy. The aim of the JET programme is to bring native English speakers from
many different English speaking counties to Japan as assistant language teachers.
Approximately seven hundred JETs started the programme in 1987, the first year of
