Edgar Allan Poe s Rabies
Edgar Allen Poe was a great poet that lived a rough life. Poe had lost many of his loved ones
throughout his life and many were due to tuberculosis. Poe was very poor when he lived by himself
and became an alcoholic. He had died when he was 40 years old and people believe that it was due to
alcoholism or rabies. I believe that Poe had died of Rabies/Encephalitis because he had all of the
symptoms of rabies and it was confirmed by doctors. It had been confirmed by doctors that Poe had
died from encephalitic rabies. Poe had all of the features of encephalitis rabies said Dr. Henry Wilde .
This quote means that if a doctor had confirmed that Poe had all of the symptoms of rabies, then he
most likely died from it. According to Dr. Moran, one of its senior physicians diagnosed Poe s
condition as encephalitis. This means that Poe could have died from encephalitic rabies. Dr. Benitez
said that he does not admit that the lack of bite or scratch is a weakness in his theory that Edgar Allen
Poe may have died of rabies. I think that Dr. Benitez is saying that there is a possibility that Poe could
have died from encephalitic rabies. I believe that if doctors have confirmed that Poe had died from
rabies then it must be a possibility. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poe had all of the features of encephalitic rabies said Dr. Henry Wilde . This quote means that Poe
most likely died from encephalitic rabies since he did in fact have all of the symptoms. The doctors
said that Poe again grew confused and belligerent, then quieted down and died, just like a classic case
of rabies. This is saying that Poe could have died just like anyone with a classic case of rabies. Poe
refused alcohol and could drink water only with great difficulty. Rabies victims frequently exhibit
hydrophobia, or fear of water and this is exactly what Poe had. If Edgar Allen Poe had all of the
symptoms of rabies, then he must have died from

The Voting Age
In the article Why We Should Lower the Voting Age to 16, Laurence Steinberg asserts that teenagers
deserve more than just a voice to make a change but a right to vote (Steinberg). He elaborates on how
teenagers are qualified to vote because their minds are fully developed enough to make good choices.
Steinberg believes that teenagers have the responsibility to vote because currently the teens right now
are having a thoughtful, eloquent protest.
Steinberg insists that the federal voting age in the United States should be lowered from 18 to 16
(Steinberg). Steinberg uses hypophora and logistical evidence to create his empathetic tone. To start
his claim, Steinberg uses an hypophora to to question if young people [are] notoriously ... Show more

Because this question would be posed by skeptics and he later on validates his answer to counteract
those people, he strengthened his claim by removing doubt from his claim. Steinberg is seen as
understanding to the teens when he poses that question which creates his empathetic tone. His tone
and the hypophora combined only bolsters his argument. Moreover, he switches to logistical evidence
to back up his hypophora. He states that Cold cognitive abilities are skills that lead people to reason
logically with facts and that they are firmly in place by [the age] 16 (Steinberg). Steinberg s
incorporation of logic in his article not only made an emphasis on that his claim his correct and
supported by factual studies, but it also adds to his empathetic tone because he can be seen as
understanding of teenagers by disregarding stereotypical information with statistics. In addition to,
Steinberg goes back to using hypophora in the final parts of his article to establish his point once more
and build his tone. Steinberg questions Why is higher turnout among 16 and 17 year olds so
important? Because there is evidence that people who don t vote the first time they are eligible are less
likely to vote regularly in the

The Effects Of Drone Use On National Parks
The Effects of Drone Use in National Parks
Drones have been a debatable topic since the 1930s. Some countries have banned them, some states
have banned them, and even the United States National Park Service has banned them. There has been
controversy for the last few years of this new rising robot on whether the U.S. National Park Service
should allow it or whether it should be illegal in our parks. They were invented during World War II to
help the military spy on enemies. Their technical term is a UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) or RPA
(Remotely Piloted Aerial System). Drones have been used in situations where manned flight isn t an
option. These flying robots have come in many sizes, from miniature hand sized drones to large spy
planes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He agreed to a plea deal that would ban him from the park for one year as well as probation in
Germany. Meissner was charged with leaving property unattended, commercial filming without a
permit, and violating the ban on drones. He faced up to six months in jail and fines for each violation.
Most drone users in National Parks have good intentions, being in one of the most beautiful places in
the world, who wouldn t want to capture that from an artistic view? Teachers, artists, photographers,
filmmakers are the ones wanting to film these national parks from a different perspective. Showing the
beauty and teaching those who don t know enough about national parks are the key reasons of these
drones.
Teaching others about national parks through the internet is a great way for people to learn if they aren
t fortunate to be able to visit these parks in person. Philanthropists may see the beautiful footage a
drone can capture and want to donate to the park service. If the media brings awareness to national
parks it will draw in more visitors that can educate themselves on the beauty of true nature. Drones
can allow visitors a new perspective on some of the magnificence of national parks, for instance the
Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park. At this spring you can only see the many colors
intertwined at eye level. When I was at Yellowstone we had to journey on a very difficult trail up a
mountain to be able to see what the Grand

Example Of Hyperpectral Image Classification
This work is mainly related to hyperspectral image classification, with special emphasis on high
dimensional feature vectors. Various techniques and frameworks have been developed to tackle the
HSI classification problem. Some of the recent HSI classification techniques can be found in [Yi
Chen, Nasser M. Nasrabadi] [12] [17]. In here, we just emphasize the most recent prominent
technique in HSI. A. Dimensionality Reduction With regard to the issue that we are following, there
are another popular examples based on dimensional reduction studies, Principal Component Analysis

However, since CNNs have been mostly considered on image and visual related problems, there are a
few prominent works for HSI classification based on deep learning. Chen et al. [36] used deep belief

the CNN model which proposed by Dong et al. [20] on the hyperspectral images. In their work, they
didn t consider preserving the spectral information, and they treat hyperspectral images as a RGB
images. Hu et al. [30] presented a new CNN architecture that comprises of an input layer, a
convolutional layer, a maxpooling layer, a fully connected layer, and finally an output for
hyperspectral image classification. They proposed CNN to directly classify hyperspectral data in the
spectral domain. Makantasis et al. [31] presented a deep learning based classification method that

Essay On The Oppression Of Women In The Handmaid s Tale
In The Handmaids Tale woman s bodies have become political tools, public assets in an attempt to
correct the dramatic decline in birth rate due to environmental and social instability under a patriarchal
order. In the novel, Atwood portrays the oppression of woman in Gilead as being economically and
politically maintained by force, as well as being illustrated and controlled linguistically. In Gilead the
idea of female silence is taken literally as woman are forbidden from reading and writing, as a result

Questions On Demand And Demand
QUESTION 1 Explain, with the use of demand and supply diagram(s), the difference between a
change in quantity demanded of hats and a change in demand for hats. The difference between a
change in Quantity demand and demand for hats are explained below: Change in Quantity Demand:
The movement alongside a demand curve because of the only factor that is price. For example: If the
price of Hat is $5 people will buy 20 hats, if the price of hats increased by 10% people will buy less
hats. (Figure in hard copy) Change in Demand: The movement of Demand curve because of other
factor not by the price i.e. buyers, tastes, income and expectations of buyers, preferences. (Figure in
hard copy) So, the difference between Change in demand cure and change is demand Change In
quantity demand is related with the change of price whereas change in demand is not about the price it
is about other factor Such as: buyers, tastes, income and expectations of buyers, preferences.
QUESTION 2 Explain, with the use of demand and supply diagrams, the effect of the following
events on the market for solar panels: (a) If the price of solar panels is below the market equilibrium
price. (b) The price of electricity for an average household has increased by 50 percent. (c) New
technology has increased the productivity of solar panel producers. (A) If the price of solar panel is

Tensions occurred along this route between Europeans and the Mongolian tribesman (mongols).
Italian merchants at the city of kaffa were besieged by the mongols in 1345. As the mongols started
dying because of a mysterious illness they adopted a new strategy hurling the bodies of the dead over
the italian city walls. The disease killing the mongols was the bubonic Plague during medieval times
there was no cure for this disease and it was spread easily. The italian merchants returned to their port
city and the disease spread rapidly throughout Europe symptoms included large blisters called buboes
high fevers and delirium cures such as donating gold to the church self flagellation and using leeches
to drain blood had no effect.
The Middle Ages came to a close through the innovations of Renaissance, the discovery and
exploration of the Americas and the drastic rethinking of Christianity in the Protestant Reformation.
By the mid 1400s, with the Renaissance in full bloom, the Middle Ages would effectively come to an
end. No matter how many advances that you make, if you are still failing your citizens it doesn t

Bruce Lee s Impact on American Media
42 years after his death, Bruce Lee is still viewed as the greatest icon of martial arts cinema. His
philosophy and charisma made him legend amongst popular culture. It s arguable whether or not the
martial arts film genre would have survived in American Cinema without Bruce Lee and his incredible
movies in the early 1970 s. Till this day, Bruce Lee s Influence in modern media is apparent. Bruce
Lee has become a household name, like Mickey Mouse and The Beatles.

more than the star of the show. Later, he opened a third branch of his Wing Chun School in Los

James Coburn. In addition, Bruce was told by Chinese traditionalist to stop teaching Kung Fu to non
asians. He did not listen and challenged the traditionalists to a fight against their best fighter. Bruce
won the challenge but was not satisfied. He felt that fight lasted too long. He refined his style of Wing
Chun, he incorporated aspects of other fighting styles such as Boxing and Western Fencing and called
it Jeet Kune Do (Way of the Intercepting Fist).
With his minor success in Hollywood, Bruce returned to Hong Kong and was approached by film
producer Raymond Chow who had started Golden Harvest Productions. Chow offered him the lead

The Pros And Cons Of Ecotourism
Over the past few decades, the tourism industry has grown leaps and bounds in regards to the amount
of traveling and recreational opportunities available. Many of these options now include fine dining on
airlines, unique lodging options worldwide, and other activities. Although the industry may be
evolving, consequently many legal issues arise as a result. These issues become a challenge for travel
officials, as they work together to find effective solutions to settle them. One of the larger issues at
hand in the world today is ecotourism. Ecotourism allows people to visit areas around the world that
have experienced little to no human impact such as pollution, traffic, and other types of invasive

Essentially, Showing people a rainforest rather than logging... is a good compromise if the forest is
preserved (qtd. in ). Then there are the negatives associated with ecotourism as a whole. Various
reports such as the damaging of coral reefs by tourists involved in scuba diving activities have become
a prevalent issue, while the building of eco lodges in forests and jungles have resulted in the continual
disturbance of the animals who live in those areas as well as the continuous removal of natural
vegetation which may also contain food supplies for animals. Safari tours that take place in Africa also
have similar results, as many tourists who ride in jeeps contribute to the disturbance of food sources,
such as game that lions depend on for survival. In Africa, many indigenous peoples such as the Masai
in Kenya have lost their land to the ecotourism industry, and have been forced to move elsewhere.
Environmentalists argue that, Unwittingly, the tourists are destroying the culture that they are paying
to preserve. Ecotourism seeks to go to the remotest places. These places are often not well policed.
There is nothing stopping people taking money from tourists as well as pursuing environmentally
unfriendly activities (qtd. in

times medical emergency nurses failed to treat patients in a timely manner. There are certain federal

assessment then there are chances of malpractice medical treatment or diagnosis. It is the core
responsibility of medical emergency nurse to make accurate assessments in emergency. If a nurse
shows carelessness and there is no accurate assessment of the patient done then there are several
consequences of this and it not only waste patient s time but can also lead towards serious medical
issues. I was a head nurse in Boston s hospital where I get a report in which the patient filed a

Spartan Cultural Beliefs
Cultural Beliefs Sparta is known in history as a powerhouse of militaristic power in Ancient Greece.
In those times, Sparta was a constant in everyone s mind, being included in almost anything to do with
the topic of war. Raised from the notation that warfare is the complete center of life, it found its way
into the culture of the Spartan people inevitably. Spartan people had the mindset that they as a whole
collectively needed to be ready for battle, and this differed from the Athenian mindset, causing both to

Nurturing Relationships Between Adults And Children
Three strategies that can be used by child development professionals to develop nurturing

beliefs, values, expectations and life experiences that make each infant and each family unique. (Lally,

infants are doing? (Lally, 2006, p.119) thus leading

longitude and latitude are 40.8450° N and 14.2583° E, which means that Naples never gets directed

level. This is relatively low, and the city itself is close to the sea as well. This is kind of scary because
the sea levels keep rising, and in the future Naples could be submerged in water. Naples Italy also is

The system was developed by a German climatologist and a botanist Wladimir Koppen 1846 1940
who put the world s climates into several different major categories based on general temperature
related to latitude. The Koppen system classifies a location s climate mostly by using annual and
monthly temperature averages and precipitation.
Naples Climate Classification
Naples Italy s climate classification is a CSA. This climate is typical of places in the Mediterranean
area, this climate is a subtropical climate. The places around the Mediterranean Sea is where this
climate is mostly found. This climate is also found in southern Oregon and in most of California. It is
found in parts of Western and Southern Australia as well and in southwestern South Africa. Some
sections of Central Asia and central Chile are CSA too. This Climate has a dry and hot summer and a
rainy winter.
California and central Chile have the same Koppen classification with CSA. Both of the places are on
the western side of each of their continents. These places have the same climate throughout the year.
During the winter it rains but the summers in both places are always dry barely any rain, it is hard to
grow crops in the summer. There is also high pressure in all these places and when there is high
pressure there is less precipitation.

That will also be true if the egg comes from the nucleus donor s mother, because mitochondria are
inherited maternally. Multiple clones might also be produced by transferring identical nuclei to eggs
from a single donor. If the somatic cell nucleus and the egg come from different individuals, they will
not be identical to the nuclear donor because the clones will have somewhat different mitochondrial
genes. Cloning by embryo splitting. This procedure begins with in vitro fertilization (IVF): the union
outside the woman s body of a sperm and an egg to generate a zygote. The zygote (from here onwards
also called an embryo) divides into two and then four identical cells. At this stage, the cells can be
separated and allowed to develop into separate but identical blastocysts, which can then be implanted
in a uterus. The limited developmental potential of the cells means that the procedure cannot be
repeated, so embryo splitting can yield only two identical mice and probably no more than four
identical humans. The DNA in embryo splitting is contributed by germ cells from two individuals the
mother who contributed the egg and the father who contributed the sperm. Thus, the embryos, like
those formed naturally or by standard IVF, have two parents. Their mitochondrial DNA is identical.
Because this method of cloning is identical with the natural formation of monozygotic twins and, in
rare cases, even quadruplets, it is not discussed in detail in this

Major Discoveries in Electrical Communication in the 1800’s
The nineteenth century was a very prolific era of discovery in electrical knowledge and technologies
that laid the foundation for modern electrical communication. During this period of time the
foundations of modern electrically based technologies were discovered. The nineteenth century began
with a debate between Luigi Galvani, and Alessandro Volta regarding the source of electricity in
Galvani s famous frog experiment. These debates lead to the invention of the battery by Volta, and the
invention of Volta s. Volta s discoveries would lead the way for Ohm s law several years later.

Galvani noticed that when a metal scalpel was brought close one of the nerves in the frog that the frog
s leg would move. Galvani stated that the electricity observed in the frogs was intrinsic the nerves of
the frog. Galvani used multiple different metals combinations to demonstrate the electric phenomenon.
He would further demonstrate that metals were seemingly unneeded. He did this by manipulating the
nerves and muscles of the frogs in such way that caused the same twitch, as when a metal object was
brought near. The publication of his research in 1791 would peak the interest of Alessandro Volta.
Volta was convinced that Galvani s animal electricity was not the result of the animal tissues, but the
metals within those tissues. In an effort to prove this Volta invented the battery . Volta s battery was
built out of alternating zinc and copper disks with cloth (or a similar medium) soaked in salt water
[10]. Volta stated the following regarding the nature of electricity with respect to Galvani s animal
electricity: Herein lies the whole secret, the whole magic of Galvanism. It is simply an artificial
electricity, which acts under the impulse of contacts between different conductors [9]. At this point
Volta s theory of electricity by contact was fully accepted. Just after Volta s greatest discovery and
before that of Ohm, Hans Christian Ørstead discovered magnetism. Ørstead conducted a series of
experiments that

Misrepresentation Of Chinese Culture
Nowadays, some chinese culture are misrepresented by people in other countries. In the essay,I will
talk about three kinds of misrepresentation of Chinese culture.
Due to the movie montage and some exaggerated shooting techniques, some foreigners have a deep
misunderstanding of Chinese Kung Fu (like Kung Fu dodge and the internal strength).
However, the essence of Chinese martial arts is to move as much in order to keep fit and keep calm.
People who practice the martial arts, naturally have more strength and good at fighting. But all these
achievements were based on the perennial hard work. It s ridiculous to consider using a few days to
learn Chinese Kung Fu.
When I talked with my American friends, the most common answers I get are Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan,
and Kungfu. Honestly, kung fu is such a mysterious thing to me.
The representation of Kung Fu in China has a large difference from those in the US movies. We call it
the type of martial arts Wu Shu (Wu refers to martial arts;Shu means a hero).
Because I grew up with a lot of martial arts novels, I was glad meet a martial arts artist called
Christopher Pei who was the first Kung Fu artist I have ever seen.
The first thing master Pei told me was Kung Fu s misunderstanding of martial arts ( martial arts or
discipline ,an exhibition of traditional Chinese martial arts and all in one sports.) To be aware of this
fact, I felt a bit disappointed. I believe that Kung Fu is a generation after generation of secrets, only in

Chin The World s Most Crowded Nation
China_A brief introduction: China, a socialist country in East Asia, is the world s most crowded
nation. Its unfathomable scene includes field, desert, mountain ranges, lakes, waterways and
14,500km of coastline. Beijing, the capital, blends cutting edge building design with memorable
destinations including sprawling Tiananmen Square. Its biggest city, Shanghai, is a high rise studded
worldwide budgetary focus. The famous Great Wall of China fortress runs east west the nation over
north. It practices purview more than 22 territories, five self ruling locales, four direct controlled
regions (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing), and two generally self representing exceptional
managerial regions(Hong Kong and Macau); while asserting power over Taiwan. Covering around 9.6
million square kilometers, China is the world s second biggest nation via land region and either the
third or fourth biggest by aggregate region, contingent upon the system for measurement.. China s
coastline along the Pacific Ocean is 14,500 kilometers (9,000 mi) long, and is limited by the Bohai,
Yellow, East and South China Seas. China had the biggest and most complex economy on the planet
for a large portion of the previous two thousand years, amid which it has seen cycles of flourishing

Brief Summary Of Chapter 1 Of Mccloud
In the beginning of chapter one, McCloud starts of by narrating through one of his flashbacks when he
first started to read comic books. At first McCloud was in denial of what comics can truly mean, but as
he began to read he was hooked. The main character is drawn as younger version of himself with stars
and thick lines around his head with a surprise looked towards the comic he is reading. Throughout
the next panels he draws himself with an astonishing look in his face because he found something he
can fully understand. Before he can continue his memory McCloud s cuts in the middle of the
flashback and he s back to his normal version saying, I felt there was something lurking in comics...
something that had never been done. Some kind of hidden power! (McCloud 3). McCloud is trying to
say that he felt something more when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The younger version of McCloud was drawn with clean lines, holding a notebook, and a look in his
face with confusion. The author uses these panels to convince the audience about his credibility
towards comics. Since the author experience stereotypes, he shows credibility towards his evidence
because he is telling the truth about comics being serious. He also used these panels to make some
stereotypes of himself, when we see a bully we always imagine a big tough guy making fun of the
nerdy looking kid. He uses this stereotype to make the audience see that we can become that jerk that
makes fun of comics by not taking other people s opinions seriously. Comics should be taken serious
because we are the younger version of McCloud we have not fully understood what comics are, but
through the visuals McCloud makes strong claims that comics can give you something more that

Cost, Quality, And Timing
Tendering
In this stage the project contract including all details about cost, quality, and timing is presented and
usually several contractors make an offer. Then a contractor (or more than a contractor based on
project requirements) is selected to accomplish the site construction. Usually the cheapest offer wins;
of course there might be considerations of quality.
Construction
The contractor that has been appointed to carry out the site work now will be called as the constructor,
and starts to complete the building on the specified time and within the approved time and quality
limits. Adequate supervision is necessary in this stage so that the defined quality standards as well as
legal requirement are met.
Commissioning
In the Commissioning stage the constructed building is inspected for probable errors or deficits from
the agreed contractual or legal requirements. It is checked whether all facilities are working properly
and facilities and systems meet defined objectives and criteria. If there are any repairs or fixings
essential they will be carried out in this stage.
Operation and Maintenance
Facilities and buildings operations and maintenance covers all services required to guarantee the built
construction is performing well. All the constructions may not have this stage. This stage is especially
for sensitive and/or complex constructions such as power plants. Operations and maintenance
normally includes the day to day activities necessary

Finding Meaning in Albert Camus’ The Plague Essay
Finding Meaning in Albert Camus The Plague Socrates, a Greek philosopher, once said that the
unexamined life is not worth living (Apology 38b). Like Socrates, Albert Camus believed that a man
needs to live meaningfully. In his novel The Plague Camus creates characters who are forced to think,
reflect, and assume responsibility for living as they battle an epidemic of bubonic plague that is
ravaging the Algerian port of Oran. For ten months as the outbreak isolates the city from the rest of the
world, each of the citizens reacts in a unique way. Camus main characters undergo both individual and
social transformations. Dr. Bernard Rieux, the narrator and central character, is one of the first people
in Oran to recognize the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rieux believes that man has to do what is necessary while he is alive and must believe in humanity: . .
. Rieux was thinking it was only right that those whose desires are limited to man and his humble yet
formidable love should enter, if only now and then, into their reward (Camus 301). When the gates of
Oran are opened, Rieux writes a chronicle of the plague hoping to teach others a lesson. He wants
them to witness the admirable qualities in men and the injustice they endure. As a doctor he knows
that the plague bacillus can lie dormant for long periods and then resurface. Although man may never
be the victor over the plague and the loss of life it inflicts, he can better manage life s adversities in the
future. Another important character is Raymond Rambert, a Parisian journalist, who goes through a
metamorphosis over the course of the epidemic. He finds himself trapped in Oran when the gates of
the city are closed. This determined young man tries to escape in any way possible because he feels
that Oran s problems are none of his concern since he is an outsider. Rambert s appeals to the civil
authorities are unsuccessful. He asks Dr. Rieux to help his cause and is enraged when Rieux refuses.
He then offers money to smugglers for his escape. Later during an exchange Rieux tells him: . . . for
nothing in the world would I try to dissuade you from what you re going to do; it seems to me
absolutely right and proper.

Financial Aid Case Study
Humanitarian rush to save the starving children, fleeing refugees, marginalized women, generally, to
diminish crisis worldwide is often a straightforward response which can cause bigger dilemmas.
Financial aid can alter the self determination in the developing country; food donations are likely to
destroy the local economy making aid a permanent matter. It is likely that governments may use
humanitarian relief to not intervene military. The unknown level of corruption in certain developing
countries may land the aid into the wrong hands. The lack of accurate and visible data available
worldwide may cause inconsistency in statistics which could cause issues in preventions later on.

As straightforward as the above understanding of protection may seem, complications rise due to a
number of variables. It is no surprise that the attempt of many NGOs and international organizations
to intervene through peacebuilding operations are failing in the public s opinion and are no longer
preventing conflict; on the contrary creating more complications within. According to the United
States Census Bureau, only 34% of the population has trust in the government on all of the
organizations and their objectives. In the following paper, the analysis of US interventions politically,
socially and economically will be closely analyzed. The thesis will be divided into multiple parts. Part
I will closely looks at specific NGOs, what they are and their missions. Part II will look at the extent
of NGO marketing and its audience. This will help the readers understand what it is that attracts the
prospective interns and employees to become part of bigger organizations. Part III of the paper will
analyze the data collected from individuals. The data will be closely analyzed and will not only give
me insight on the day to day practices of NGOs but how it impacts the individuals who are depended
on such organizations. On the broader spectrum the methodology section will help answer the thesis
question. Section IV will reason out why there is an NGO failure on the publics eyes by looking at

The Hammer of Thor The Norse Gods are real and the monsters are real too! Magnus Chase is dead,
but is now one of Odin s warriors. The story takes place six weeks after rebinding the wolf god Fenris

great book and well worth reading because it is funny and full of fights. In this book, readers continue
to follow Magnus Chase s adventures after the events of the first book, Sword of Summer. Magnus is
an Einherjar, a warrior of Odin, who has a magical talking sword named Jack that cannot sing the top

Outsider In To Kill A Mockingbird
Discuss the theme of an oustider in Silas Marner and To Kill a
Mockingbird.
What is an outsider? The dictionary defines that an outsider is a person excluded from a group. The
outsider plays an important part in both novels. In Silas Marner by George Eliot Silas is the main
outsider, however in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee even though
Boo is the obvious outsider there are many others.
Silas Marner is written by George Eliot, which is the pen name of
Mary Ann Evans. She had to change her name to a man s name to avoid facing prejudice, as it was not
seen proper for a lady to write books, this also makes her an outsider. Due to this she could be more
sympathetic with outsiders, this could have influenced her to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

To Kill a Mockingbird is set in a town called Maycomb in Alabama. It is written in the 1950 s but is
set in 1933 1935. At the time it was set and at the time it was written there was a lot of prejudice
against black people in America, especially in the southern states.
The 1930 s were also the time of the depression, which meant that many people had gone bankrupt.
The Jim Crow laws were also still in motion, which created a segregation of white and black people.
In the 1950 s civil rights were important in the U.S.A as black people were fighting for them. It was
also the time when the majority of white males were members or sympathisers of the Ku Klux Klan.
This adds to the theme of an outsider in this book, because one of the outsiders Tom Robinson is the
victim of racial prejudice.
Both novels are set thirty years before they are written and both are a hundred years apart. This shows
that prejudice is constantly around.
In the town of Maycomb hierarchy makes outsiders of people. The Finchs are regarded as southern
aristocracy but later become outsiders because Atticus defends Tom Robinson. The Radleys are
outsiders because they are so conspicuous and secretive. The Cunninghams and the
Ewells have both been bankrupt due to the depression. However the
Cunninghams faced it bravely where as the Ewells became dishonest and depraved. They are the white
trash of the society, which makes them
outsiders.

Samantha s Paper on Asoiaf
Much has already been written about Sunday s controversial episode of Game of Thrones. The episode
itself was actually rather dull a lot of exposition and little action but one particular scene has already
garnered thousands of keystrokes, hundreds of outraged tweets, and dozens of confused attempts at
rationalization. Viewers will no doubt know exactly what scene I mean.
In the Great Sept, next to the dead body of their first born son, Jaime Lannister rapes his sister, the
mother of his three children.
Immediately after this scene aired, fans were at their keyboards crying foul. Jaime Lannister would

shiny hair and attempted murder of a child. All he ever wanted to be was a knight like Ser Arthur
Dayne, the Sword of the He s really just a noble guy whose been lead astray.
And whose fault is that?
David Beniodd and D.B. Weiss say it s Cersei s fault. Not explicitly. At least, not yet. But that s why
the sex scene in the Sept became the rape scene in the sept. That s why, despite hundreds of pages of
painstaking character development that make it entirely illogical for that to happen, they wrote it that
way for television.
Because on the King s Road with Brienne, Jaime was beginning to get in touch with the boy knight
still inside himself, the one who still believed in the words he said. Her honor made him want to be
more honorable too. But now he s back in King s Landing, outside of Brienne s sphere of good
influence and back in Cersei s corrupting one. Instead of welcoming Jaime home with open legs, D D
s Cersei is standoffish and unresponsive.
He stands in the previous episode, pathetically pleading for a modicum of her affection, but she spurns
him, telling him he s too late, that things have changed. D D s Cersei cares not a whit for Jaime,
though he has devoted his whole life to her, has allowed her to mold him into the man who stands
before her. And what better way to show how corrupting she is, than to have that love turned against
her?

Ethics Of Volkswagen Case Study
With billions of dollars invested and hundreds of thousands of Americans employed (Department of
Commerce, n.d.), the automobile industry has a vast influence in the United States. Since the time
Henry Ford developed the assembly line production (Statista, n.d.) the industry has grown into a
global market with no signs of slowing down. Top car companies are constantly searching for new
innovations to set them apart from their competitors. Among those companies is Volkswagen (VW). A
company which strides in emissions and fuel efficiency turned, not only to be false, but caused a
severe amount of damage (Ewing, 2016).
Volkswagen s Background Volkswagen is a German based company started in 1937 and owns a range
of subsidiaries including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, it took nearly six years for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to finally
discover the company s scheme; possibly creating a false believe that the company could continue to
get away with it. Lastly, VW seemed to be obsessed with surpassing Toyota and becoming the world s
biggest car company (A Mucky Scandal, 2015), apparently determined to do whatever it took to
accomplish that.
The Impact on VW It is not hard to see that the scandal would cause a horrid blow to VW s image.
Until the incident, VW had, like many other German companies, the reputation of German
engineering (Robertson, 2013). However, instead of using that innovation to develop diesel fueled cars
compliant with U.S. standards, it decided to try to scam its way in the market. Not only did the
company admit to having 11 million cars with software intended to cheat tests (Gates, Ewing, Russell
Watkins, 2017), it also plead guilty to destroying evidence in an elaborate cover up (VW Admits
Emissions Cheating and Cover up, 2017); building further distrust among its consumers.
Brand Equity One thing that can make or break a company is its brand equity. Brand equity is the
value that comes with the familiarity with a company s branding and the feelings consumers have
towards that brand (Brand Equity, n.d.). A company with strong brand equity usually gives consumers
a sense of reliability and value; causing a higher inclination to purchase its products. It usually takes

Being A Civilized, Clean Home
Looking at the socially appropriate responsibilities played in the plantation home during the
antebellum period, there was a specific etiquette and a role for the slave men and women, as
mentioned before, to show guests suitable hospitality along with their masters. House servants,
especially, had to dress and act in a particular way in order to be presentable to guests in the great
house. Servants who took part of visits, dinner parties, and balls should be properly attired and
prepared accordingly for the event, as to show that their master promotes a civilized, clean home. In
the journals of Fanny Kemble, a notable British actress in the 19th century, during her visit in Georgia,
she writes about a horrid experience at a dinner party: two young lads of from fifteen to twenty, who
wait upon us in the capacity of footmen. As, however, the latter are perfectly filthy in their persons
and clothes their faces, hands, and naked feet being literally encrusted with dirt their attendance at our
meals is not, as you may suppose, particularly agreeable to me, and I dispense with it as often as
possible. Mary, too, is so intolerably offensive in her person that it is impossible to endure her
proximity, and the consequence is that, amongst Mr. s slaves, I wait upon myself more than I have
ever done in my life before. As perceived, servants that are disheveled give evidence of not only
disgrace to themselves with their bad hygiene, but the appalling hospitality of the host

Short Story On Deadweather
Nobody lived on Deadweather but us and the pirates. It wasn t hard to understand why. For one thing,
the weather was atrocious. Eleven months out of twelve, it was brutally hot and humid, with no wind
at all, so on a bad day the air felt like a hot, soggy blanket smothering you from all sides. And the
other month was September, which meant hurricanes. Then there was the volcano. It hadn t actually
blown in ages, but it belched smoke and shook the earth enough to scare away anybody who might ve
overlooked the pirates and the weather. The only reason it didn t scare me, even though plenty of
things do, was because I d been born and raised halfway up its slope and didn t know any different.
That s how I felt about the pirates, too. There were two kinds on Deadweather: the normal ones, who
hung around down in Port Scratch, drinking and getting into knife fights whenever they weren t off
raiding Cartager gold ships; and the busted down, broken ones, who d lost too many limbs or eyes or
organs to crew a ship, but not enough to kill them outright. A few of those stayed in the Scratch,
patching together a living in the taverns and the gun shops, but most of them hobbled up the mountain

The Importance Of Critical Pedagogy In Education
A University must empower the students that attend, in order to fully prepare them for their future, and
careers. In order to feel empowered, one must feel confident, and respected. In the Greenville
University men s soccer program, much like many other college sports teams, have a dysfunctional
class ranking system that thrives on inequity, subsequently our program has been challenged to model
a brotherhood that does not see class rankings, but rather appreciates each, and every individual
regardless of their age, or class. Critical pedagogy allows students to speak with greater authority
because they are drawing on knowledge they already possess (Critical Pedagogy, Butler and
McCunn). Critical pedagogy is an idea that each student will possess a different power, and
knowledge that will empower the students, and teachers combined. Allowing the students to work off
of the knowledge they already possess, allows the students to speak through the different lenses that
each one has. Instead of having a teacher teach through only one lens, their very own, critical
pedagogy allows a fair conversation, and a just world, because it allows each person to have a voice.
The syllabus put it very simply, but elegantly that I must use the wording, In general critical pedagogy
acquaints students with societal structures that reinforce inequity and invites and empowers them to
engage with their communities and to be agents of change in their communities (Syllabus, Malone).

1. What control charts should be used to determine whether the process is in control or out of control?
We should use x Charts and R Charts to determine whether the process is in control or out of control.
X Charts are usually used when we know standard deviation of the sample. We calculate the upper and
lower control limits based on that data. For this data, we assumed the standard deviation as 3 and we
found the upper and lower limits for each day s shifts.
According to Monday Shift 1 (00:00 to 08:00), the lower limit is 69.23 hence the numbers that are
below 69.23, are becoming out of control. And the upper limit is 71.91, so the numbers which are

productivity is shift 3 from 16:00 to 00:00.
Finally, for Wednesday the best shift is from 16:00 to 00:00. Because the customers expect the bags

For Monday shift 2, from 08:00 to 16:00, it seems more profitable when we considered with the other
shifts on Monday. The upper and lower control limits are 4879 and 4865 pounds. Furthermore, for
Tuesday, as same as Monday shift 2, from 08:00 to 16:00 is more suitable than other shifts for
customers. We calculated the upper and lower control limits as 4942 and 4900 pounds. For the last

Women are getting graduate degrees, but not necessarily in fields that give the best salaries.
Discrimination remains a factor and it is difficult to document and measure.
Women on average are working fewer hours than men, often to care for children or other family
members.
The wage gap narrowed steadily through the 1980s and 1990s but the convergence slowed in the early
2000s. In 1980, women earned 60.2 cents for every $1 men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The case given in the article is a prime explain of wage discrimination faced by females in the
workplace. Based on the details given in the article the female worker was suffered wage
discrimination. When compared to her male friend she was equally qualified but she was paid less
despite that fact. The employer got away with discriminating against the female worker mainly
because workers at her work place was forbidden. When she found out it had been four years. The
Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act enacted in 2009 allows victims like her to file a pay discrimination
complaint against the employer within 180 days of their last pay check instead of the previously law
which required victims to file the discrimination pay compliant within 180 days of receiving their first
unfair paycheck.
Opinion
According to the United States Census Bureau, the changes in the real median earnings of men and
women who worked full time, year round between 2011 and 2012 were not statistically significant and
the female to male earnings ratio has not experienced a statistically significant annual increase since
2007. So this clearly indicates that legislation enacted by lawmakers so far have failed to eliminate the
wage gap problem that currently exists between males and females.

Ieyasu Accomplishments
William Strohmeyer
Kilpatric
HIS 2012
10 November 2016
Shogun: The Life and Accomplishments of Tokugawa Ieyasu Ieyasu s early life was not one that went
smoothly. He was born in a castle in the Okazaki Castle Mikawa to his parents, Matsudaira Hirotada
and Odai no kata, or Lady Odai. He lived from 1543 to 1616. Ieyasu was born for greatness from the
beginning. His father was the daimyo, meaning powerful ruler, of Mikawa and his mother Odai nokata
was the daughter of a nearby samurai lord. Ieyasu s mother and father were step siblings and had him
at a very young age. They separated shortly after his birth due to his mother being sent back to her
family. After a few years both Lady Odai, and Hirotada remarried and had children giving Tokugawa
eleven half siblings total. Most of Ieyasu s childhood and young adult years were spent in and around
danger due to wars that resulted over his family splitting to pursue different clans. He was constantly
drawn into battle during these disputes. At five years old he was taken hostage by the leader of the
Oda clan who opposed his father. He was then used as a bargaining chip for the clan so they could
squeeze as much out of Ieyasu s father as they could. Their main request was that he sever all ties with
the Imagawa clan or they would kill Ieyasu. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Doing this could have resulted in the assassination of Ieyasu and the annihilation of the Tokugawa.
Tokugawa took the Oda stronghold of Owari and then Hideyoshi responded by throwing his own army
into Owari. This was the only time that any of the great shoguns in Japan fought each other. The battle
was referred to as the Komaki Campaign. The campaign finally ended after everybody came to a
peace agreement. The agreement was that Ieyasu s second son was to become to adopted son of
Hideyoshi. A few of Ieyasu s supporters followed his son s relocation to the Hideyoshi clan as

Political Pawn
Even as a princess, things are not perfect in my life. This is certainly true as of late. Things have been
taking a turn for the worse, and I wonder if it can possibly bounce back before it is too late. I have
been living this royal lifestyle for awhile now and it is elegant, but it has its twists; I feel like I am
being used as a political pawn, and the plague is getting worse. I feel as if I am being used as a
political pawn. I am told who to support, what to do, and who to peruse. Although I am able to do a lot
more as royalty, it seems I am not completely free. My male counterparts still seem to have the upper
hand in terms of choice. I am told to go after specific men in other kingdoms in order to expand the
kings alliances and expand his rule. I see other women getting into marriages and being very unhappy
about them after some time. They tell me that they feel as if they are being used as pawns as well, or
as mere vessels to continue the lineage of their husbands. I might not have to worry about having a
happy future at all, I may only need to worry about having a future in the first place if things don t turn
around quickly. The disease has been getting worse, but up to this point I had been protected decently.
At first I had been protected by guards and prayed for by our priests, but things are changing. Many of

I ve lived this life for awhile now, and it s been a decent one. This life has been one full of being
treated better than the majority of people, even if I don t think it has been entirely fair. It has been
royal and elegant. If it comes to an end, then so be it. I will avoid some other troubles that I know are
on the horizon. Even I, a princess, can not live forever. My duties as princess have caused me to come
to this point, and I intend to serve the best I can until my last day. The truth is that I am feeling ill
today, but I am trying to hide it very well. Soon, I may not be able to hide

War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells Essay example
War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells
Homo Superior?
War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells is a fiction story written about war and mankind s coming of age. It
is also a philosophical novel with many deep meanings underlying the shallow looking one hundred
eighty eight page book.
The subject of this novel is Science Fiction and there are not many that can even compete with Wells
in terms of how superior his word descriptions are. He simply does wonders with the imagination of
the reader.
Obviously the whole book is about the struggle mankind faces, but it is not always with aliens, they
are actually more of a good way to represent what Wells really believed. He believed man is
dominant, yet should remember how big the universe is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case the setting is perfect on account of the humans having a small sense of hope in their
machinery, but not enough technology to really compete.
Characters are not a big part of this book. The main one, who never reveals his name, is the only one
who in fact does not always go with the craziness of the public. He does have his moments of running
away screaming and hiding, but he learns more about himself, mankind, and the aliens than anyone
else in the book. He has loved ones in England and hates the aliens for what they do to his home, yet
he understands what the aliens are trying to do. First person is a good way to write this kind of book
because the reader knows exactly what a regular Joe would be thinking at a time like this. Another
reason Wells is such a great author.
Other characters are the aliens, who seem to be ugly heads that talk with their minds. The physical
characteristics they possess are far different from humans and they never communicate with the
humans.
The last character worthy of note is the artillery man the main character meets towards the end of the
book. The two seem to agree on the way things will work out, and both would rather live than die
fighting. They play many games together, eat and talk and even spend the night out in the English
countryside together.
Without this man, the book does not exist and there is no story.

Designing A Product, An Advertiser
When trying to sell a product, an advertiser must think of their target audience. For Covergirl, their
audience is mainly women but it is for makeup enthusiast. Covergirl always tailors their
advertisements in the same way. There is always a woman, normally it is just her head and her
shoulders sometimes. She is posed very dramatically and she is always flawless with a clear
complexion, contoured skin, full pink lips, bright eyes and perfectly styled hair. There is always a bold
element or something that grabs your attention in a Covergirl advertisements. Most of them also have
a theme for example, the blossom mascara ad that features Katy Perry has a theme of flowers with
light pink flowers covering the page or the volume mascara ad ... Show more content on

The text underneath the picture describes the product and how it is better than the competition. This
text talks about how the mascara is just as good if not better than false lashes. The colors used are very
contrasting. The background is very light and Drew Barrymore is portrayed as pale and the only other
color use is yellow. Black is used and is on her fishnet gloves and is very contrasting to the smooth
texture and colors.
In this ad specifically, there is a lot of contrasting images. The black fishnet gloves in contrast to the
smooth, glossy, silk fabric and the flawless face of Drew Barrymore. The dark color is only on the
black gloves draws attention to the gloves. However, your attention then moves to the next darkest
things, her eyes. They are effectively using the contrasting textures and colors to draw your attention
to her eyelashes. Another effective fact is that Covergirl uses Drew Barrymore as a model, her familiar
face plays on pathos and makes the audience trust the advertisement.
This image is a Covergirl ad advertising nylon mascara, using Drew Barrymore as a spokesperson for
this product. This ad appeared in a magazine and a similar one aired on television. This ad was made
by Covergirl, a well known makeup production company. They have chosen to make this is to sell
their new nylon mascara. Covergirl is attempting to sell this mascara to women, unhappy with their
mascara or false

Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs Theory
The motivation of a human being is an interesting subject. There many reasons for a person to do the
same action. There are also many theories of the motivation of a human being. For this paper, the
authors will look at the motivation of Theodore Roosevelt to fulfill Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs. We
will look how President Roosevelt was motivated to act throughout his life through each stage of the
Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs.
Maslow s Theory
The Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs theory is a theory that attempts to summarize motivation. Maslow s
theory is a biopsychosocial theory of motivation. A biopsychosocial theory means that it accounts for
the biological needs and the psychosocial needs of a person. (Carpenter Huffman, 2013) Maslow s
Hierarchy of Needs Theory was first developed by Abraham Maslow in a 1943 paper. (Maslow, 1943)
Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs Theory works simply. It says that a person will meet baser or more
primitive needs first before fulfilling more advanced or sophisticated needs. To the lay person, thus
seems to be true. The hierarchy of needs are in the following order from simple to complicated:
Physiological Needs Hunger, thirst, and maintenance of internal state of the body; Safety Needs to feel
secure and safe, to seek pleasure and avoid pain; Belonging and Love Needs to affiliate with others, be
accepted, and give and receive affection; Esteem Needs to achieve, be competent, gain approval, and
excel; and Self Actualization Needs

  • 2. Edgar Allan Poe s Rabies Edgar Allen Poe was a great poet that lived a rough life. Poe had lost many of his loved ones throughout his life and many were due to tuberculosis. Poe was very poor when he lived by himself and became an alcoholic. He had died when he was 40 years old and people believe that it was due to alcoholism or rabies. I believe that Poe had died of Rabies/Encephalitis because he had all of the symptoms of rabies and it was confirmed by doctors. It had been confirmed by doctors that Poe had died from encephalitic rabies. Poe had all of the features of encephalitis rabies said Dr. Henry Wilde . This quote means that if a doctor had confirmed that Poe had all of the symptoms of rabies, then he most likely died from it. According to Dr. Moran, one of its senior physicians diagnosed Poe s condition as encephalitis. This means that Poe could have died from encephalitic rabies. Dr. Benitez said that he does not admit that the lack of bite or scratch is a weakness in his theory that Edgar Allen Poe may have died of rabies. I think that Dr. Benitez is saying that there is a possibility that Poe could have died from encephalitic rabies. This is saying that Poe could have died just like anyone with a classic case of rabies. Poe refused alcohol and could drink water only with great difficulty. • 3. The Voting Age In the article Why We Should Lower the Voting Age to 16, Laurence Steinberg asserts that teenagers deserve more than just a voice to make a change but a right to vote (Steinberg). He elaborates on how teenagers are qualified to vote because their minds are fully developed enough to make good choices. Steinberg believes that teenagers have the responsibility to vote because currently the teens right now are having a thoughtful, eloquent protest. Steinberg insists that the federal voting age in the United States should be lowered from 18 to 16 (Steinberg). Steinberg uses hypophora and logistical evidence to create his empathetic tone. Because this question would be posed by skeptics and he later on validates his answer to counteract those people, he strengthened his claim by removing doubt from his claim. Steinberg is seen as understanding to the teens when he poses that question which creates his empathetic tone. His tone and the hypophora combined only bolsters his argument. Moreover, he switches to logistical evidence to back up his hypophora. He states that Cold cognitive abilities are skills that lead people to reason logically with facts and that they are firmly in place by [the age] 16 (Steinberg). Steinberg s incorporation of logic in his article not only made an emphasis on that his claim his correct and supported by factual studies, but it also adds to his empathetic tone because he can be seen as understanding of teenagers by disregarding stereotypical information with statistics. In addition to, Steinberg goes back to using hypophora in the final parts of his article to establish his point once more and build his tone. • 4. The Effects Of Drone Use On National Parks The Effects of Drone Use in National Parks Drones have been a debatable topic since the 1930s. Some countries have banned them, some states have banned them, and even the United States National Park Service has banned them. There has been controversy for the last few years of this new rising robot on whether the U.S. National Park Service should allow it or whether it should be illegal in our parks. They were invented during World War II to help the military spy on enemies. Their technical term is a UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) or RPA (Remotely Piloted Aerial System). Drones have been used in situations where manned flight isn t an option. These flying robots have come in many sizes, from miniature hand sized drones to large spy planes. ... Most drone users in National Parks have good intentions, being in one of the most beautiful places in the world, who wouldn t want to capture that from an artistic view? Teachers, artists, photographers, filmmakers are the ones wanting to film these national parks from a different perspective. Showing the beauty and teaching those who don t know enough about national parks are the key reasons of these drones. Teaching others about national parks through the internet is a great way for people to learn if they aren t fortunate to be able to visit these parks in person. Philanthropists may see the beautiful footage a drone can capture and want to donate to the park service. If the media brings awareness to national parks it will draw in more visitors that can educate themselves on the beauty of true nature. Drones can allow visitors a new perspective on some of the magnificence of national parks, for instance the Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park. Multiple clones might also be produced by transferring identical nuclei to eggs from a single donor. If the somatic cell nucleus and the egg come from different individuals, they will not be identical to the nuclear donor because the clones will have somewhat different mitochondrial genes. Cloning by embryo splitting. This procedure begins with in vitro fertilization (IVF): the union outside the woman s body of a sperm and an egg to generate a zygote. The zygote (from here onwards also called an embryo) divides into two and then four identical cells. At this stage, the cells can be separated and allowed to develop into separate but identical blastocysts, which can then be implanted in a uterus. The limited developmental potential of the cells means that the procedure cannot be repeated, so embryo splitting can yield only two identical mice and probably no more than four identical humans. The DNA in embryo splitting is contributed by germ cells from two individuals the mother who contributed the egg and the father who contributed the sperm. Thus, the embryos, like those formed naturally or by standard IVF, have two parents. Their mitochondrial DNA is identical. Major Discoveries in Electrical Communication in the 1800’s The nineteenth century was a very prolific era of discovery in electrical knowledge and technologies that laid the foundation for modern electrical communication. During this period of time the foundations of modern electrically based technologies were discovered. The nineteenth century began with a debate between Luigi Galvani, and Alessandro Volta regarding the source of electricity in Galvani s famous frog experiment. These debates lead to the invention of the battery by Volta, and the invention of Volta s. Volta s discoveries would lead the way for Ohm s law several years later. Galvani stated that the electricity observed in the frogs was intrinsic the nerves of the frog. Galvani used multiple different metals combinations to demonstrate the electric phenomenon. He would further demonstrate that metals were seemingly unneeded. He did this by manipulating the nerves and muscles of the frogs in such way that caused the same twitch, as when a metal object was brought near. The publication of his research in 1791 would peak the interest of Alessandro Volta. Volta was convinced that Galvani s animal electricity was not the result of the animal tissues, but the metals within those tissues. In an effort to prove this Volta invented the battery . Volta s battery was built out of alternating zinc and copper disks with cloth (or a similar medium) soaked in salt water [10]. Volta stated the following regarding the nature of electricity with respect to Galvani s animal electricity: Herein lies the whole secret, the whole magic of Galvanism. It is simply an artificial electricity, which acts under the impulse of contacts between different conductors [9]. At this point Volta s theory of electricity by contact was fully accepted. Misrepresentation Of Chinese Culture Nowadays, some chinese culture are misrepresented by people in other countries. In the essay,I will talk about three kinds of misrepresentation of Chinese culture. Due to the movie montage and some exaggerated shooting techniques, some foreigners have a deep misunderstanding of Chinese Kung Fu (like Kung Fu dodge and the internal strength). However, the essence of Chinese martial arts is to move as much in order to keep fit and keep calm. People who practice the martial arts, naturally have more strength and good at fighting. But all these achievements were based on the perennial hard work. It s ridiculous to consider using a few days to learn Chinese Kung Fu. When I talked with my American friends, the most common answers I get are Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Kungfu. Honestly, kung fu is such a mysterious thing to me. The representation of Kung Fu in China has a large difference from those in the US movies. We call it the type of martial arts Wu Shu (Wu refers to martial arts;Shu means a hero). Because I grew up with a lot of martial arts novels, I was glad meet a martial arts artist called Christopher Pei who was the first Kung Fu artist I have ever seen. The first thing master Pei told me was Kung Fu s misunderstanding of martial arts ( martial arts or discipline ,an exhibition of traditional Chinese martial arts and all in one sports.) When the gates of Oran are opened, Rieux writes a chronicle of the plague hoping to teach others a lesson. He wants them to witness the admirable qualities in men and the injustice they endure. As a doctor he knows that the plague bacillus can lie dormant for long periods and then resurface. Being A Civilized, Clean Home Looking at the socially appropriate responsibilities played in the plantation home during the antebellum period, there was a specific etiquette and a role for the slave men and women, as mentioned before, to show guests suitable hospitality along with their masters. House servants, especially, had to dress and act in a particular way in order to be presentable to guests in the great house. Servants who took part of visits, dinner parties, and balls should be properly attired and prepared accordingly for the event, as to show that their master promotes a civilized, clean home. • 39. Earning Differences by Gender Despite women outnumbering men in U.S. colleges and the implementation of legislation like the 1963 Equal Pay Act the pay differences persist. According to some the pay gap persists because: Men are more likely to pursue college majors and advanced degrees in fields that lead to higher paying careers. Women are getting graduate degrees, but not necessarily in fields that give the best salaries. Discrimination remains a factor and it is difficult to document and measure. Women on average are working fewer hours than men, often to care for children or other family members. The wage gap narrowed steadily through the 1980s and 1990s but the convergence slowed in the early 2000s. In 1980, women earned 60.2 cents for every $1 men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The case given in the article is a prime explain of wage discrimination faced by females in the workplace. Based on the details given in the article the female worker was suffered wage discrimination. When compared to her male friend she was equally qualified but she was paid less despite that fact. The employer got away with discriminating against the female worker mainly because workers at her work place was forbidden. When she found out it had been four years. The Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act enacted in 2009 allows victims like her to file a pay discrimination complaint against the employer within 180 days of their last pay check instead of the previously law which required victims to file the discrimination pay compliant within 180 days of receiving their first unfair paycheck. Opinion According to the United States Census Bureau, the changes in the real median earnings of men and women who worked full time, year round between 2011 and 2012 were not statistically significant and the female to male earnings ratio has not experienced a statistically significant annual increase since 2007. So this clearly indicates that legislation enacted by lawmakers so far have failed to eliminate the wage gap problem that currently exists between males and females. • 40. Ieyasu Accomplishments William Strohmeyer Kilpatric HIS 2012 10 November 2016 Shogun: The Life and Accomplishments of Tokugawa Ieyasu Ieyasu s early life was not one that went smoothly. He was born in a castle in the Okazaki Castle Mikawa to his parents, Matsudaira Hirotada and Odai no kata, or Lady Odai. He lived from 1543 to 1616. Ieyasu was born for greatness from the beginning. His father was the daimyo, meaning powerful ruler, of Mikawa and his mother Odai nokata was the daughter of a nearby samurai lord. Ieyasu s mother and father were step siblings and had him at a very young age. They separated shortly after his birth due to his mother being sent back to her family. After a few years both Lady Odai, and Hirotada remarried and had children giving Tokugawa eleven half siblings total. Most of Ieyasu s childhood and young adult years were spent in and around danger due to wars that resulted over his family splitting to pursue different clans. He was constantly drawn into battle during these disputes. At five years old he was taken hostage by the leader of the Oda clan who opposed his father. He was then used as a bargaining chip for the clan so they could squeeze as much out of Ieyasu s father as they could. Their main request was that he sever all ties with the Imagawa clan or they would kill Ieyasu. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The battle was referred to as the Komaki Campaign. The campaign finally ended after everybody came to a peace agreement. Things have been taking a turn for the worse, and I wonder if it can possibly bounce back before it is too late. I have been living this royal lifestyle for awhile now and it is elegant, but it has its twists; I feel like I am being used as a political pawn, and the plague is getting worse. I feel as if I am being used as a political pawn. I am told who to support, what to do, and who to peruse. Although I am able to do a lot more as royalty, it seems I am not completely free. My male counterparts still seem to have the upper hand in terms of choice. I am told to go after specific men in other kingdoms in order to expand the kings alliances and expand his rule. I see other women getting into marriages and being very unhappy about them after some time. They tell me that they feel as if they are being used as pawns as well, or as mere vessels to continue the lineage of their husbands. I might not have to worry about having a happy future at all, I may only need to worry about having a future in the first place if things don t turn around quickly. • 43. War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells Essay example War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells Homo Superior? War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells is a fiction story written about war and mankind s coming of age. It is also a philosophical novel with many deep meanings underlying the shallow looking one hundred eighty eight page book. The subject of this novel is Science Fiction and there are not many that can even compete with Wells in terms of how superior his word descriptions are. He simply does wonders with the imagination of the reader. Obviously the whole book is about the struggle mankind faces, but it is not always with aliens, they are actually more of a good way to represent what Wells really believed. He believed man is dominant, yet should remember how big the universe is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this case the setting is perfect on account of the humans having a small sense of hope in their machinery, but not enough technology to really compete. Characters are not a big part of this book. The main one, who never reveals his name, is the only one who in fact does not always go with the craziness of the public. He does have his moments of running away screaming and hiding, but he learns more about himself, mankind, and the aliens than anyone else in the book. He has loved ones in England and hates the aliens for what they do to his home, yet he understands what the aliens are trying to do. First person is a good way to write this kind of book because the reader knows exactly what a regular Joe would be thinking at a time like this. Another reason Wells is such a great author. Other characters are the aliens, who seem to be ugly heads that talk with their minds. The physical characteristics they possess are far different from humans and they never communicate with the humans. The last character worthy of note is the artillery man the main character meets towards the end of the book. The two seem to agree on the way things will work out, and both would rather live than die fighting. They play many games together, eat and talk and even spend the night out in the English countryside together. Without this man, the book does not exist and there is no story. ... There are also many theories of the motivation of a human being. For this paper, the authors will look at the motivation of Theodore Roosevelt to fulfill Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs. We will look how President Roosevelt was motivated to act throughout his life through each stage of the Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs. Maslow s Theory The Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs theory is a theory that attempts to summarize motivation. Maslow s theory is a biopsychosocial theory of motivation. A biopsychosocial theory means that it accounts for the biological needs and the psychosocial needs of a person. (Carpenter Huffman, 2013) Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs Theory was first developed by Abraham Maslow in a 1943 paper. (Maslow, 1943) Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs Theory works simply. It says that a person will meet baser or more primitive needs first before fulfilling more advanced or sophisticated needs. To the lay person, thus seems to be true. The hierarchy of needs are in the following order from simple to complicated: Physiological Needs Hunger, thirst, and maintenance of internal state of the body; Safety Needs to feel secure and safe, to seek pleasure and avoid pain; Belonging and Love Needs to affiliate with others, be accepted, and give and receive affection; Esteem Needs to achieve, be competent, gain approval, and excel; and Self Actualization Needs ...
