Life Modification For Community Leaders
Introduction
This reflection paper is the clear picture of the knowledge I gained from the course Lifestyle
Modification for Community Leaders. At the time of registration of my courses for this semester
I opted this course with a hope of change in my life. As the student s life is tough especially when
you should work along with your studies. The pressure of studies and work is very challenging for
the students. This course helped me to fight with this situation. Basically, the course is all about the
modifications of the lifestyle that every person has opted in their life. The course not only focuses
on life modification but also illustrates different methods to prevent and cure several diseases. This
course introduced me with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After going through all the articles, I was eagerly waiting to attend the first lecture of this course.
In the first lecture of this course, I got a feeling that everything is going to change. The meditation
of 5 minutes in the beginning of the lecture filled me with a positive vibe and a lot of energy. The
connection between body and soul was explained in a simple and beautiful manner by the professor.
The vibrational medicine and its effects on the body astonished me.
Further, the professor discussed about the various forms of CAM and gave me and the other
students, an opportunity to explore about any one form of CAM, write a paper on it and present it
to the whole class. During the course, various methods of alternative medicine that were presented
in the class are meditation, aromatherapy, Ayurveda
, guided imagery, yoga, reiki, hydrotherapy and
many more.
Meditation
According to me, it is a system of concentration or distraction of human mind and body used to
reach a higher level of awareness, physical performance, concentration or relaxation generally
created from an internal source. The meditation can be practiced for stress management, anger
management, control over anxiety, improved awareness and improvement of cognitive skills. To
meditate, first find a quite area, then sit cross legged, back

Conference Reflection Paper
During the week of May 25, I had the privilege to attend a conference in Washington D.C. called
NCORE, the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity. Conference topics ranged from police
brutality, mass incarceration, Ferguson to moving towards identity after liberation. Since I am an
African American, I felt that it was expected of me to attend conferences that only relate to my
people and my identity. To stray away from the expected , I decided to dedicate one day to learning
about different cultures. That morning, I attended a conference on the education of Asian
Americans in the United States. I went into this conference not expecting to take away anything
since our culture has conditioned us to believe that Asian Americans are the model... Show more

Before we go into this, we have to understand the difference between the foreigner and the
American. When Muslims immigrate to the US, they are faced with the constant stares of
onlookers who are confused of what they are, where they come from, and when are they leaving.
As you can tell, Americans have always seen Muslims as the other , but tensions intensified after
the 9/11 attacks. The 9/11 attacks brought Muslim culture to the forefront. Many people started
performing hate crimes against Muslims and Islamic nations. The American government has
sanctioned surveillance and investigations into Islamic nations in order to prevent another 9/11
attack. The government has perpetuated this hatred towards Muslims on the basis that since all
terrorists are Muslims, all Muslims must be terrorists. Furthermore, Americans have this idea
that Muslims should apologize for the 9/11 attacks. The entire Muslim culture was not
responsible for 9/11. Although it seems to be easy to point the finger at one group of people, it
becomes difficult when you are blaming a group of people on one person s actions. If Americans
expect an apology for Muslims, all whites should be prepared to apologize to blacks for slavery.
The apology concept is complete ludicrous. If you believe that all Muslims are terrorists, this
judgment makes the statement that all blacks are criminals true. If either one are true, how do we
explain Barack Obama and Farah Pandith. In addition, airport customs have used the 9/11 attacks
as an excuse for random security checks of Muslims. This promotes an almost majority rule of
widespread racial profiling of Muslims. On the airport, there are numerous customs checkpoints for
Homeland Security that takes a minimum of 2 hours to catch your plane. Americans even have this
fear of terror

Importance Of Integrity In The Army
When it comes to the Army core values I feel that all of them are equally important when it
comes to being a great leader or just a soldiering general. The acronym LDRSHIP is what every
soldier should represent and exemplify. It is the core of who we are. If I had to choose one that
means the most to me I would say integrity. Without integrity you are nothing. To be able to be a
great leader you should be able to always do what is right whether in the eye of someone else or
behind closed doors. You should always be able to admit when wrong. Being a leader of integrity
is being able to act according to principles and making decisions that are true to the army and one
s moral belief. As your integrity grows as a leader the respect you get... Show more content on

I feel that becoming an officer would better me as an individual and as a soldier. It would teach me
many more leadership skills and how to act in such positions. I chose to go this route because I
have never been a follower. I feel that I was born to lead and I took up my opportunity to join
ROTC and become that leader that I know I can be. I feel that me being an officer is the perfect
thing for me. I have great leadership skills and have no problems motivating and being a great

Being an officer requires you to ne an outstanding person and that is who I see myself to be. I
feel that I will be great at making important decisions in stressful situations. Becoming an officer
will be a great way for me to learn how to be calmer and not so quick to lash out. I feel that it will

Prepaid Funeral Plans
A funeral is meant to give meaning to the life of a deceased individual. It acts as an opportunity for
loved ones to convene and remember the deceased while simultaneously providing one another with
comfort and support. Planning funerals is nothing short of an emotional process, one which
involves many legal and financial matters. By planning ahead of time with prepaid funeralplans,
you can plan the service exactly how you want it and pay for the entire service ahead of time,
saving your friends and family from the burden.
Prepaid funeral plans are appealing for a multitude of reasons. The first is that they are paid for in
advance, which means that families are not burdened with the cost or any decisions pertaining to
cost during their time of grief. Even if the services are not paid for entirely, money can be set aside
for funeral plans through a payable on death account which is opened in the name of the
beneficiary for your estate. This type of bank account is not subject to probate and will go directly
to the beneficiary upon death, enabling them to pay for the plans you have made. ... Show more

You can keep a written copy of your request in a safe deposit box or at home where your family
can access it upon death. You can contact different funeral directors in your local area to compare
the packages and prices ahead of time. You can also formally request information about the costs
of services in writing before you finalize your funeral plans. Staff can help you prepare documents
such as death certificates and obituaries. If you or your loved ones have cultural or religious
preferences you can discuss this ahead of time with the funeral directors and they will ensure you

Constructivism In International Relations
In international relations, constructivism is regarded to be the starting point of the
institutionalization of values that leads to the development of collaborative behaviors within the
international community. Constructivism is based on the following core principles:
1.states are identified as main actors in the international system;
2.states are conceptualized as socially constructed entities;
3.states pursue different objectives and comply with different principles and norms, which affect
and exert influence on state behavior.

ABSTRACT
We report the effect of variation in concentration of calf thymus DNA on the fluorescence emission
of OM 73 and OM 120 in different media. Both intercalative and charge dependent binding may
occur between the OM 73 compound and DNA. Through fluorescence titrations the binding
constant of OM 73 in a salt solution was estimated. Binding of OM 73 to ds DNA is not
temperature dependent.
After one week of exposure to room temperature, both OM 73 and OM 120 solutions exhibit
changes in uv visible absorption spectra and fluoresce spectra. Additions of DNA to OM 73
yielded atypical reductions in fluorescence intensity with low ds DNA BP additions [0 50
micromolar] to OM 73, and significant typical increases in fluorescence signal with high ds DNA
BP additions to OM 73 [above 100 micromolar].
OM 73 was titrated with low BP ds DNA additions at different NaCl concentrations in order to
investigate the presence of charge dependent binding. When titrating OM 73 at low BP
concentrations of ds DNA, the fluorescence decreases in the low BP concentration range was
measured. Smaller reductions in the fluorescence intensity were observed at larger concentrations
of NaCl, indicative of less binding, when comparable amounts of ds DNA were added. This
indicates that the binding of OM 73 at the low BP range to ds DNA BP is almost entirely due to

So, the pros and cons of technology in our generation.
It is pretty easy to make a list for both, but a bit easier to make a list for the pros, so we will do that.
The first and most important things brought to us by technology is the communication.
Pros We are a pretty social bunch, and with phones, social media and by other means we are able
to contact people from long distances for no reason at all, and with no effort. These things allow
us to stay in contact with family, and even long distance relationships, as if they ever work. In my
eyes Youtube is also a source of communication, because it allows us to look things up, like how to
videos, which contain knowledge that would be much harder to obtain ... Show more content on

Virtual bullying is becoming a very big concern for people our age, being the first area to have
too much technology to back up our good times, and bad time. We tend to struggle through
emotional stress a lot more than past generations, so a simple message is able to tare some of us
down really easily.
Video games. Now this one is completely my opinion, and i m not interested in starting an
arguement, but the pros and cons for this one, in my eyes are simply put.
Pros When it comes to video games I personally go to them to blow off steam. Now I see this as a
great pro, because when some child or even adults just want to hit something games can pull them
back from doing something stupid. They may just go home play some GTA, putting their anger into
a game, so that no one actually gets harmed.
Cons The con for gaming is, in my eyes, just the fact that they can tend to distract from other real
life things. When you got homework, but you have just one more; you can fill in the blank.
Games are great and all but even I m guilty of this one. I d much rather play my Ps4 than get that
stack of homework done, I can always do it later, but then later I ll say the

practitioner with problems associated with her nose and sinuses. Upon on the initial evaluation, the
nurse practitioner determined that the patient s symptoms were consistent with allergies and
prescribed the patient Amoxicillin. Ten days later the patient was prescribed a second course of
antibiotics. The patient returned six months later, in August 2000, for complaints of epistaxis and

Why Nations Fail By Daron Acemoglu And James Robinson
Why Nations Fail Book Report In Why Nations Fail, Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson show
that economic development is about more than just economics. Through a wide variety of natural
experiments ranging from Latin America, to Sub Saharan Africa, to East Asia, they argue that it is
institutions, both political and economic, that differentiate a country s economic success.
Specifically, they separate institutions into inclusive and extractive. Inclusive political institutions
engage the entire population, while extractive political institutions are ruled by an elite minority.
Similarly, inclusive economic institutions promote property rights and competitive markets, while
extractive economic institutions create monopolies and funnel wealth to the elite minority. The
novel part of their thesis is the idea in order to have sustainable inclusive economic institutions, a
country must first have inclusive political institutions. It is only when a country has inclusive
economic and political... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson do an incredible job of simplifying a complicated topic for a
general audience. They address most major counterarguments and provide in depth and convincing
stories from history that support the importance of inclusive institutions. However, when you
simplify a topic, it is much more difficult to make rigorous arguments. Additionally, Acemoglu and
Robinson s framework for analyzing development fails to account for India and China. Therefore, it
was successful in analyzing past economic development, but largely fails to predict future
development. Nevertheless, it is indisputable that inclusive institutions are much more beneficial
for an entire population than extractive institutions. Researchers and advocates just need to
remember to look at the entire economic picture of a country, instead of only one indicator when
making decisions about economic

Essay on Maya
Maya
The ancient Maya were a group of American Indian peoples who lived in southern Mexico,
particularly the present day states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan, and Quintana Roo, and
in Belize, Guatemala, and adjacent Honduras. Their descendants, the modern Maya, live in the
same regions today, in both highlands and lowlands, from cool highland plains ringed by volcanos
to deep tropical rain forests.
Through the region runs a single major river system, the Apasion Usumacinta and its many
tributaries, and only a handful of lesser rivers, the Motagua, Hondo, and Belize among them. The

In 1960, Tatiana Proskouriakoff showed that the patterns of dates were markers of the important
events in rulers lives. The chronological record turned out to serve history and the perpetuation of
the memory of great nobles. Subsequently, major archaeological discoveries, particularly at
PALENQUE and TIKAL, confirmed much of what the writings said, and examination of Maya art
has revealed not only historical portraiture but also a pantheon of gods, goddesses, and heroes in
other words, Maya religion and mythic history.
HISTORY OF THE ANCIENT MAYA
By 5000 BC, the Maya had settled along Caribbean and Pacific coasts, forming egalitarian fishing
communities. Certainly by 2000 BC the Maya had also moved inland and adopted agriculture for
their subsistence. Maize and beans formed the Maya diet then as today, although many other
foodstuffs squash, tomatoes, peppers, fruits, and game were supplements. The word for maize wa
is synonymous with food itself, and the maize god was honored from early times.
Preclassic Period
During the Early Preclassic (2000 900 BC), civilization began to take shape in parts of
MESOAMERICA. By 1200 BC, the OLMEC of the Gulf Coast had risen to preeminence,
dominating trade routes that extended from the modern Mexican state of Guerrero to Costa Rica,
passing through Maya regions. At COPAN, Honduras, and Cuello, Belize, around 1000 BC, local
Maya leaders began to imitate Olmec styles of pottery and jades and

Pulp Fiction Film Analysis
Pulp Fiction is a black comedy crime film written and directed Quentin Tarantino (1994). The
film s narrative follows the unpredictable actions and reflections of two hit men who
philosophically meditate out loud about the Bible, loyalty, and McDonald s hamburgers
(Corrigan, White, 368). The movie goes against the three act structure of classic films as the
story is told out of chronological order making the film so memorable to its viewers. Tarantino s
film begins in a coffee shop and also ends in the same shop. In the beginning of the film, it
appears to be a soft, moist, shapeless matter of mass but as the movie progresses the audience can
take away much more from the mundane acts they view on screen. The film s odd narrative... Show

Pulp Fiction employs various devices such as dialogue and visual motifs that provide narrative
clarity and unity along the lines associated with classical Hollywood cinema (Bailey, 52). The
dialogue in the coffee shop indicates that the film has more to do with the mundane aspects of a life
of crime than it does with the glamour, danger, and intrigue typical of thrillers or film noir
(Howley). The film s dialogue can range from absolutely pointless to completely captivating
moments. These conversation establishes character and character relations early in the film in an
entertaining fashion. This is depicted when Vincent and Jules are having a normal conversation
about Amsterdam and foot massages directly before they are about to commit multiple murders.
This organic conversation establishes the characters as reasonably ordinary people to the audience
till they arrive at the apartment and appear stone cold. Tarantino s Pulp Fiction clarity illustrates the
style of mundane versus the extreme. A motif that remains constant in the film is the bathroom.
Various of the film s major events occur while someone is using the restroom. For a majority the
film this phenomenon occurs to Vincent. When he uses the restroom in the diner, Jules has a heart
to heart with the robbers, Pumpkin and Honey Bunny. Next, Vincent is using the bathroom at Mia s
and she comes across his heroin.

On The Grey Tree Mondrian
Mondrian was born in 1872, and died in 1944. Throughout his career, he made sure to create
many geometric artworks. He came from a neat, Calvinist country where the severe landscape of
interlocking canals and ruler straight roads often looked mechanically laid out (145). He was a
painter and used oil on canvas to create his artworks. In 1892, he had a degree in education and
could Teach drawing in secondary schools (Early life and works).
This painting was created in 1912, and was called The Grey Tree. If he was alive right now, and

If Mondrian was alive today, this painting may be a little different. This is because it looks
nothing like what he named it, so maybe he would have biased it off a different picture to get more
of an ocean feel to the painting. The painting was painted with oil paints on a canvas.
This painting was created in 1912, and it was named The Flowering Apple Tree. In this painting,
he probably used what he thought an apple tree that was flowering looked like if created
geometrically. He probably would not have changed this painting if he was alive today, even
though it doesn t look like an apple tree. However, there is a possibility that he would have found
a way to make it look more like an apple tree rather than what it looks like.
This painting was created in 1944, the year that Piet Mondrian died. It was called the Victory
Boogie Woogie. In this painting, it was likely something he imagined and wanted to make it visible
to everyone. Because that is how he thought of this painting, he wouldn t have changed what it
looked like today. Unless there was something else that gave him the inspiration, because then it
could look like something totally different. However, it depends on how he got the inspiration, or if
there was some reason he thought of this exact

Analysis Of Ashes By Susan Beth Pfeffer
In the short story called, Ashes by Susan Beth Pfeffer, the protagonist is dealing with the
complicated relationship between her divorced parents. Ashleigh, the main character, is questioned
by her dad if she can borrow her mom s money for his own problems. Ashes, short for Ashleigh,
like the compliments that she keeps receiving from her dad. Ashes complex relationship with her
parents makes her choose between her mom or her dad. One lesson this story suggests is that no
matter how much you love someone, you have to let them handle things on their own.
In the beginning of the story, the readers can understand that is Ashes talking about her parents.
Her mom is a practical person and always ready for anything, extra batteries for flashlights
during a blackout or extra coins for laundry and her dad on the other hand, is an easygoing,
carefree and willingness to help. In the story it says, ... All I can give you is dreams, Ashes. But
one good dream is worth a thousand flashlight batteries. This provides an explanation of how her
dad can only give her dreams and nothing else. He called her a name that made her feel special,
something her mom did not do, and her mom did not promise things she could not fulfill.
There is a part in the beginning of the story where Ashes, says When I was little, Dad used to
promise me the stars for a necklace, but like most of his promises, that one never quite happened.
This quote explains that he speaks more and is actionless. He has promised her things and
accomplished nothing. If he had bought her a necklace with fake stars, it would make Ashes feel
like her at least cared for her. He did not have to hype her up with hopes and then destroy them by
not fulfilling it.
In the text, Ashes is constantly getting compliments that she does not believe. Her dad calls her a
.. one in a million girl. A name Ashes does not believe she lives up to. Ashes knew that was not
true but did not tell her dad anything because she loves him and does not want to hurt him. Her
father keep on complimenting her, which makes him seem warm and loving. Her father s purchase
of loyalty by the way of compliments came into play when he asks Ashes to take her mother s
money from the teapot

You can apply the same mantra to impromptu presentations. Sear the basic structure of a
presentation into your memory and volunteer to give speeches on the spot. The more you practice
giving impromptu presentations, the more comfortable you become doing so. Just as people
trained to respond to emergencies at a moment s notice, you will be able to respond with a solid
presentation at a moment s notice.
Consider the following key points as well as how to best communicate the content that is necessary
for the requested presentation.
Please With Threes
A lesson I teach early in my presentation skills workshops, and that I learned in school and in
Toastmasters clubs, is to please with threes . Otherwise called the rule of threes, this means that you
create a presentation using a speech structure that consists of three main components: an opening, a
body, and a closing. Manage these three major parts of a presentation and your speech will be
organized every time.
Get Off on the Right Foot
Develop an attention grabbing opening. On short notice, few people expect you to be witty or
humorous. Typically, last minute presenters are expected to address a specific issue or concern.
Implement the following techniques, however, and you just might come across as witty and
instantly engaging in spite of your last minute

Compare And Contrast Christianity In Beowulf
The story of Beowulf deals with life, death, violence, kings, and monsters. Written around 800
CE, and then picked up hundreds of years later to be rewritten by a monk, it is written well after
the coming of Christ. It could be simply read as an action adventure, filled with conquests and
elaborate feasts, as were common of Old English tales. The story is not that simple though, and
gives us a peek into a culture going through some drastic changes. Once built upon a Pagan belief
system void of Christ and saturated with values such as revenge and violence, the Anglo Saxons
did not immediately adopt all of Christianity. There was a lengthy time in which both sets of beliefs
were muddled and weaved together haphazardly, where no one religion was distinct. Beowulfis an
example of these cultural influences crashing together. While Christianity in Beowulf, the Old
English epic poem, looks different than the Christianity we recognize today, the story is built with
Christian values.
The plot itself may seem classically medieval, with characters and events that the people would
have appreciated, but the underlying messages reveal where the culture was heading. The story
follows a main character, Beowulf, who is a traditional epic hero. His position in the story is
important, because it is something that readers at the time would readily recognize and appreciate.
Not only is he a great hero, but he has some almost supernatural abilities. He kills Grendel, a
monster terrorizing

Essay On How Did Texas Fight In The Civil War
Fighting for What s Right (Or Believed to Be)
Way back when, the South had clashing opinions with the North. And like in most cases, the
disagreement turned into a war. The US was divided into the North and South; one side strongly
for slavery, and one strongly against. Everyone thought that they could live this way, divided, in
harmony, but they were wrong. Southern states began to secede, and a month later war broke out.
Why did Texans fight in the Civil War? The residents of Texas fought because they loved Texas,
they wanted to have states rights, and they wanted to protect slavery.

The people of Texas fought in the Civil War to preserve slavery. African race ... is mutually

Texans believed that slavery was right, and that Africans benefited from slavery. I think that this is
the most important reason that Texans fought because it s literally what divided the nation. If
everyone agreed on things regarding slavery, the country wouldn t have split and the American

Texans fought in the Civil War because residents loved Texas, they felt a strong desire for states

How Does Hal Change In King Henry Iv Part 1
Hal is often referred to as the prodigal son of Shakespeare s King Henry IV Part I. Wasteful and
lazy, Hal is seen more often drinking in a tavern or robbing others than serving as the next king
of England, though he claims that to be all an act in Act I Scene II, where he promises to redeem

throne. Hal replies to his father, promising that he will redeem himself in his father s eyes and in
the eyes of the English noblemen by killing Hotspur, one of the leaders of the rebellion against the
king. This speech marks a major character shift in Hal and his motivations shift from drinking and
lounging about, to that of redemption and honor through battle. This character shift is seen through
many literary devices, such as the religious and familial diction, the personification of Hal s actions,
and the juxtaposition between Hotspur and Hal.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

idea of father and son, with Hal and King Henry mirroring God and his Son, Jesus. Though Hal
seeks to kill Hotspur to find his honor, he seeks to gain the approval of his father, that he will be
bold to tell you that I am your son (III. ii. 134). However, the king is never referred to as father or
even by his name, rather my majesty (III. ii. 132, 155), showing the disconnect between father and
son through Hal s wasteful

necessary preventive methods are not followed. Infectious disease disasters consist of biological
attack, emerging infectious disease outbreaks, and pandemics. There are a broad range of
potential biological agents, including bacteria, viruses, and toxins (of microbial, plant, or
animal origin) used as bio warfare or bioterrorism. Bio warfare has the potential to result in high

Summary Of The Joy Of Reading And Writing Superman And Me
Have you ever considered if a literary education is a necessity or a privilege? After reading
Sherman Alexie s article The Joy of Reading and Writing : Superman and Me I definitely began
thinking on this question. Alexie argues that low socioeconomic groups specifically Spokane
Indians need a better literary education to help counter the cultural expectation. I feel Alexie
effectively persuades the reader through his personal experiences and by using pathos and
ethos. In The Joy of Reading and Writing : Superman and Me published in the Los Angeles
Times, Sherman Alexie brings attention to the cultural divide between Indians and non Indians,
specifically in the area of education. Alexie uses himself as the example in the article, a
Spokane Indian boy who lives on the reservation. Alexie chose to mimic his father s love for
books, because of that he taught himself to read at a very young age. He learned to read by
looking at the pictures in a Superman comic book. After teaching himself he advances quickly ,
unlike other kids he is able to read Grapes of Wrath in kindergarten . If he hadn t been an Indian
boy he may have been called a prodigy but he was so instead he was an oddity . At this point in
the article Alexie brings us out of his past as a child and into his present as an educated Indian
man. Much to his surprise he has become a writer. He says, I visit schools and teach creative
writing to Indian kids . Alexie talks about how Indian children have lower

Can We Have Free Trade and Protect the Environment?
Endorsing free trade is easy. Ask an Economics professor why free trade
is good and you will surely be shown a graph with three or more
intersecting lines that show a higher rate of output for nations that
participate in free trade than nations that do not. Opposing free trade,
at least on economic grounds, is a bit harder unless you are an
environmentalist.
The economic advantages of free trade were recently brought to light at
the meeting of North and South American nations in Quebec City last
month to discuss the proposed Free Trade Areaof the Americas (FTAA).

Not surprisingly, exemption from U.S. environmental
regulations has led to toxic releases of PCBs, pesticide sprays,
chlorine compounds, phenols, and hazardous wastes in areas of Mexico
designated as maquilas, or free trade zones. Inequalities between
national environmental standards have also hurt U.S. firms by reducing
the costs of production abroad, and thus the price competitiveness of
U.S. industries in all NAFTA markets. Extended to cover the entire
American hemisphere, inequality in environmental standards could lead to
even more environmental damages by precipitating a race to the bottom
where individual countries shuffle to lower their environmental
standards relative to other states in order to attract investment from
wealthy countries. Environmental standards in Mexico have failed to
progress in the last eight years precisely for this reason.
But are environmental standards so necessary? Environmental protection
seems expensive for less developed countries and is frequently seen as
the luxury of rich nations. Yet evidence from econometric analysis of
the influence of environmental standards on economic growth shows this
simply is not true. The link between environmental protection and
economic growth is particularly strong for developing countries, whose
growth rates are particularly sensitive to changes in the supply and
productivity of human capital.

The Theme Of Fences, By August Wilson
Everyone has unique talents and interests. It is because of these interests that people develop their
own dreams and aspirations for their future. These dreams may be about career or finding happiness
or even about family. There are many hurdles in the path to achieving dreams. In the play, Fences,
August Wilson centralizes many conflicts in the plot around each individual character s pursuit of
their dreams and aspirations and the difficulties they face. Although there are many different themes
in this play, the main theme concerns the pain and suffering that individuals go through to get a
chance to fulfill their dreams and how the characters cope with the failure to achieve their dreams

s feelings about the discrimination were evident from the beginning of the book.
He first talks about his opinion on the discrimination in sports when Rose tells him about his

football stuff. The white man ain t gonna let him get nowhere with that football (Wilson 8). Due
to his failure to achieve his dream, he disapproves when his son wants to play football. Because
of Troy s failure in sports, his pain reflected on his son who also had a similar dream. He doesn t
want his son to go through the same pain he went through when he tried to join major league

20th Century American Public Schools Essay
Teaching Origins in 20th Century American Public Schools
Introduction
The debate over the origins of the earth and of life has captivated and divided America since the
late 19th Century. Evolutionists and creationists have battled in courtrooms , churches , academia ,
and public schools over the course of the 20th century and continue fighting, or attempting to make
peace over, this culture war today. The debate has changed between the time of the Scopes Trial and
the present in several important ways. First, creationists have developed many more diverse
arguments, and employ not only biblical and moralistic arguments, but scientific evidence, logical
arguments, and political rhetoric to counter evolutionary theory. Second, ... Show more content on

Evolutionary theory has accrued evidence from diverse scientific fields and is now championed as
the centerpiece of biology. Creationism has branched out to include scientific, moralistic, and
probabilistic arguments, and its alliance with fundamentalist Christianity has helped it retain
political power. Toumey asserts that without the churches, academies, colleges, lobbies, rallies,
broadcasts, and mailing lists of the New Religious Right, creationism would be an obscure oddity;
with its Religious Right sponsors, however, it becomes a popular sensation that generates difficult
public controversy about science education.
Evolutionists have largely tried to control curricula at the level of national and state standards, and
view the inclusion of creation models in public schools as a central part of the larger problem of
the poor quality of science education in American schools. Creationists have typically worked on
the local and state level, appealing to first amendment freedoms of religious practice and expression
and attacking the validity of evolutionary theory.
Historical Overview
Since public education in the US has historically been controlled at the local and state level, the

a pretty lady like you. she mused. I smiled and said thank you, Miss Julie. Then turned back to
my sister, with whom I was trying to engage in conversation, to get her out of her own fantasy

Following a steady decline since 2006, the Juvenile violent Crimes Index arrest rate reached a new
historic low point in 2014. However, crime rates in the 1980 s was comparatively lower than the
recent years. The arrest rate may have lowered, but this could mean that children are becoming
more efficient criminals. Which is why we need to reinforce the juvenile justice system. A quote
from Hanna Chiou further fortifies this statement. ...if our justice system uses mental incompetency
as the reason juveniles have their own separate and more lenient court, why aren t 40 year olds
with the mind of a 10 year old prosecuted in the juvenile justice system... (Chiou 130).Another
quote from Chiou expresses the same fact: ...fully competent and mature juveniles are fully capable
of committing the same crime as a competent adult. (Chiou 141). Why is it that in the eyes of
society even children with high intelligence, who are fully competent, that have malignant motives
for committing these vehement crimes receive gentle treatment, or a mere pop or the wrist? Why
is it that age means automatic innocence? Children who commit these crimes have obviously

Kingsolver spends an abundance of both Leah and Rachel s narrations of detailing the horrors of
the hunt. In this selection, sentences like Birds hit the wall of fire and lit like bottle rockets
portray the true chaos of the event. In this instance, Leah s point of view is useful for descriptions
of hunt because she fought right in the middle of it. Leah is surrounded by the fire crackling and
the antelopes who did not leap gracefully. Her intimate first person point of view through the use

of the event as given by gruesome details like dark blood leaked from its delicate black mouth
characterizes the population of the whole in Kilanga as having almost animalistic qualities. Rachel

The end of World War II in the late 1940 s brought the opportunity to revitalize a bleeding nation.
The restoration of peace following this successful feat ushered in an era of optimism. If hard
work could win the war, then it could also bring possibility. Once again, the hope of achieving the
American Dream was alive with the belief of attainable success. However, such sentiment was not
shared by authors and playwrights of the modernism movement. Both Tennessee Williams and
Arthur Miller saw past the shiny veneer of hope to the consequence of believing in such a dream.
In his 1947 work, A Streetcar Named Desire, Williams highlights the culture shock of the melting
pot that is New Orleans. Following in 1949, Miller focuses on the Death of a Salesmanand the side
effects of burgeoning commercialization. Despite their differences in setting, both A Streetcar
Named Desire and Death of a Salesman delve into the facade of the American Dream and the
cost many pay for desperately and fruitlessly chasing after it. In prominent lines by Blanche and

Secondly, television has made children more violent. Television not only makes children more
violent, but it also makes children more fearful to the world around them. Cyndy Scheibe
describes how parents are concerned about violence on television. A big problem is that not only
does adult crime dramas include violence, but so do cartoons and slapstick comedies. Scheibe
explains some other effects of violence on television are that children may become less sensitive
to the pain and suffering of others in reality and television. She also states that children may
behave in aggressive and harmful ways to others. Scheibe says the reason for this is, The impact of
TV violence on aggression seems to be partly due to imitation of the aggressive actions that
children see (particularly if they are done by the good guys ) and partly due to the message that
aggression works to get what you want and it s okay to use aggression it you are justified in
doing so. (Scheibe p1) Agreeing with Scheibe, Talia Trigilio also says violence in television
makes kids more aggressive. Cartoons carry a lot of violent content, 46% of violence is found in

CAUSES OF THE DOWNFALL OF MUGHAL EMPIRE BACKGROUND The downfall of the

Absence of navy: The Mughals had no navy and only maintained small ships that were no match
for the well equipped ships of the foreign traders. It was this weakness that the French and the
British used to their advantage, and were eventually able to establish their control over India.
Rise of New Powers: New powers such as the Sikhs, Jats and Marathas came onto the scene.
Gradually they broke off from the Mughal domination and established their own independent
states. Foreign Invasions: The invasions of Nadir Shah and Ahmad Shah Abdali proved fatal for
the Mughal Empire. Not only were the Indians defeated but their weakness was exposed and
India became as easy prey to other foreign powers too.The weakened Mughal Empire invited
havoc in the form of the Persian king Nadir Shah, in 1738 39. On his orders a general massacre of

Mughal Empire came from the Afghans of Rohilkhand, lying northeast of Delhi. By the middle of

The end of World War II and creation of the United Nations (UN) in 1945, set the world on a new

of Soviet Socialists Republics (USSR) as world powers as a result of their distinctive roles in
ending World War II. Their contradicting ideologies as to the basis of this new evolution sparked a
cold war bringing fear and great concerns to the masses. Inspite of the intensity of this war, the UN
assumed its responsibilities in ensuring peace and encouraging both nations to peacefully sort out

Documentaries are a form of media that have been around for decades and have been used to
display and educate a diverse range of subject matter from the lives of animals, political
controversies, to how eating McDonalds for every meal of the day can effect your health. Because
of their long history there have been many factors that have influenced the production of
documentaries such as societal and economical changes. One of what is debatably the largest
factors that has influenced documentaries is they have been a part of and shaped by the rise and
full of many technological advancements, such as cameras, audio equipment, editing stations and
even the distribution of the films themselves. As such it is important to see the impact that these
advancements have had on the making of documentaries both stylistically and technically. It is
important to first know what a documentary is to fully understand why the development of
technology has shaped them. From their conception documentary films have been about capturing
life, about the raw material of actuality. (Beattie; 10) Not only do the documentaries tell us the
story that the filmmaker is trying to tell, but also a deeper lesson that may be historical and or of
social significance. As documentaries would now be considered mainstream media, they are seen
as being the truth, that they are capturing life from unbiased point of view. Of course, saying that a
documentary representation makes a truth claim is not the same as

Theme Of Death In The Book Thief
Death, in The Book Thief, is narrating a story about a German girl named Liesel. He tells her story
through his point of view. Throughout The Book Thief, he has shown two characteristics; honesty
and being observant. Death, in The Book Thief, has some similarities with Death in It s Death
Again, which is that they both appear before a person dies. But, with similarities, there are
differences. One of them is that Deathin The Book Thief cannot be seen. and some differences as
the Death in the poem
Body:
A characteristic that Death shows in The Book Thief is honesty. Death is always honest. An
example is on page 5, when Death says, It s just a small story really, about, among other things:
A girl, some words, and accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist fighter, and quite a
lot of thievery. Another time when he shows honesty is on page 242, Death says, He d have cried
and turned and smiled if only he could have seen the book thief on her hands and knees, next to
his decimated body. He d have been glad to witness her kissing his dusty, bomb hit lips. ... Show

Whenever he goes to collect a body he isn t just looking at the sky, the soul, or the person, he is
looking at everything around him. When recalling memories he is also able remember a lot of
details about the person and the area around them. One example of Death doing this is on page
530, when he says, Her shop was obliterated, the counter landing across the road, and her framed
of Hitler was taken from the wall and thrown to the floor. Other than just remembering the object
around him, he also remembers what that whole day was like. An example of when he does this is
on page 325, when Death says, It was a gloomy afternoon early in March and only a few degrees

Charred Meat
Charred Meat Could Heighten The Risk Of Cancer
The regular eating of a well done steak or charred meat could increase the risk of cancer, according
to some studies.
Researchers from University of Minnesota conducted a study. They monitored the eating habits of
over 62,000 people for nine years. They found out there were about over 60 percent increase in
pancreatic cancer cases on those people who ate charred meat on a regular basis, according to How
Stuff Works.

The Aspects Of The Moral Tales In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales
In the General Prologue of Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the Host instructs the pilgrims to tell
Tales of best sentence and moost solaas (GP 798). In other words, in order to win the contest, the
pilgrims must tell stories which both impart serious meaning/wisdom ( sentence ) as well as
entertainment ( solaas ). While the pilgrims all achieve these two goals to varying degrees, The
Pardoner s Tale seems at first to succeed very well in providing both moralteaching and
entertainment. However, while his tale effortlessly satisfies the solaas requirement, the Pardoner
cannot truly provide the sentence he aims for, as his lesson degrades into hypocrisy and he lacks
the respect from the other pilgrims necessary to afford his tale the impact he intends.
The Pardoner s Tale, an exemplum intended to demonstrate the phrase radix malorum est cupiditas
(greed is the root of all evil), tells of three riotoures (degenerates) who wish to find and kill Death.
(Pard 334, 463). A mysterious old mantells them that Death resides underneath a nearby tree, under
which the three men find a sack of gold instead. However the men do indeed find Death underneath
the tree, as they end up killing each other due to their own greed. This tale easily satisfies the solaas
requirement in its entertainment value. Firstly, the tale contains elements of mystery which make it
interesting. For example, the old man that points the three men to their demise is both
enigmatically old and inexplicably

William Edward Burghardt. B. Dubois, Marcus Garvey And...
From the obscure period of slavery, those with darker skin was taught to hate themselves in order
for the Whites to obtain economical gain. Their goal was to break Blacks of their rich heritage
and spirit in order to control them as they would with domesticated cattle. This philosophy
transcended from generation to generation to where it was instilled into their processes of
thought and their way of life. Whites have taunted Blacks attempting to belittle their character,
squander their self confidence, and brand them the infamous word nigger . While some carried
oppression on their shoulders, a selected few rose above the negativity and began to spread self
love, self efficiency and the rise of black power. Black became beautiful and the process of
dehumanization was being reversed. W.E.B. Dubois, Marcus Garvey and Malcolm X were a few of
the candidates that advocated for the Pan African movement.
William Edward Burghardt (W.E.B.) Dubois was born in Great Barrington, Massachusetts in 1868.
As a child, he did not have much experience with racism. He completed high school at the young
age of 16 and went on to attend Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee where Dubois experienced
racism and segregation for the first time. He then went to Berlin to earn a second B.A. and then
became the first African Americanto earn a doctorates degree from Harvard University in 1895.
While at Harvard University, he wrote a doctoral dissertation named The Suppression of the African

Audre Lorde Rhetoric
In Audre Lorde s, Uses of the Erotic: The Erotic as Power , she addresses about the term erotic
that holds variations of meanings and implications behind it. It has a broader spectrum which
connects the physical, emotional, and spiritual realms. In her interpretation, The erotic is a
resource within all of us that lies a deeply female and spiritual plane, rooted in the power of our
unexpressed or unrecognized feeling, (Lorde 54). Erotic means the fullest satisfaction one can
feel in life that gives people power, and be in search for that feeling in other aspects of their life. It
allows a person to view their life in a different perspective, with more regard to what they desire
rather than the demands of the society that connotes erotic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She proclaims, Know that survival is not an academic skill. It is learning how to take our
differences and make them strengths, (Lorde 112). Lorde, herself is a black lesbian feminist, and
calls for action that liberation can occur when all voices are included, and when differences are
embraced, not only tolerated. She asserts, As women, we have been taught either to ignore our
differences, or to view them as causes for separation and suspicion rather than as forces for change.
Without community there is no liberation, only the most vulnerable and temporary armistice
between an individual and her oppression. But community must not mean a shedding of our
differences, nor the pathetic pretense that these differences do not exist, (Lorde 112). Not
participating is ignoring the differences and acknowledges replicating systems of power and
oppression that feminism claims to be working against. People are enabled to speak up for
themselves, because there are others to listen when needed. Working together with people who have
similar issues are more prone to create change, because it involves more motivation and
participation. Those involved are not just part of the change but are the reason for the change,
which makes it

Conference topics ranged from police brutality, mass incarceration, Ferguson to moving towards identity after liberation. Since I am an African American, I felt that it was expected of me to attend conferences that only relate to my people and my identity. To stray away from the expected , I decided to dedicate one day to learning about different cultures. That morning, I attended a conference on the education of Asian Americans in the United States. Before we go into this, we have to understand the difference between the foreigner and the American. When Muslims immigrate to the US, they are faced with the constant stares of onlookers who are confused of what they are, where they come from, and when are they leaving. As you can tell, Americans have always seen Muslims as the other , but tensions intensified after the 9/11 attacks. The 9/11 attacks brought Muslim culture to the forefront. Many people started performing hate crimes against Muslims and Islamic nations. The American government has sanctioned surveillance and investigations into Islamic nations in order to prevent another 9/11 attack. The government has perpetuated this hatred towards Muslims on the basis that since all terrorists are Muslims, all Muslims must be terrorists. Furthermore, Americans have this idea that Muslims should apologize for the 9/11 attacks. The entire Muslim culture was not responsible for 9/11. Although it seems to be easy to point the finger at one group of people, it becomes difficult when you are blaming a group of people on one person s actions. If Americans expect an apology for Muslims, all whites should be prepared to apologize to blacks for slavery. The apology concept is complete ludicrous. If you believe that all Muslims are terrorists, this judgment makes the statement that all blacks are criminals true. If either one are true, how do we explain Barack Obama and Farah Pandith. In addition, airport customs have used the 9/11 attacks as an excuse for random security checks of Muslims. This promotes an almost majority rule of widespread racial profiling of Muslims. On the airport, there are numerous customs checkpoints for Homeland Security that takes a minimum of 2 hours to catch your plane. Americans even have this fear of terror ... It acts as an opportunity for loved ones to convene and remember the deceased while simultaneously providing one another with comfort and support. By planning ahead of time with prepaid funeralplans, you can plan the service exactly how you want it and pay for the entire service ahead of time, saving your friends and family from the burden. Prepaid funeral plans are appealing for a multitude of reasons. The first is that they are paid for in advance, which means that families are not burdened with the cost or any decisions pertaining to cost during their time of grief. Even if the services are not paid for entirely, money can be set aside for funeral plans through a payable on death account which is opened in the name of the beneficiary for your estate. • 7. Spectroscopic Studies Of A Ruthenium Spectroscopic Studies of a Ruthenium (II) Tris diimine Complex with a Cationic Ligand By: Akiva Raskind Mentor: Dr. Thomas Strekas ABSTRACT We report the effect of variation in concentration of calf thymus DNA on the fluorescence emission of OM 73 and OM 120 in different media. Both intercalative and charge dependent binding may occur between the OM 73 compound and DNA. Through fluorescence titrations the binding constant of OM 73 in a salt solution was estimated. Binding of OM 73 to ds DNA is not temperature dependent. After one week of exposure to room temperature, both OM 73 and OM 120 solutions exhibit changes in uv visible absorption spectra and fluoresce spectra. Additions of DNA to OM 73 yielded atypical reductions in fluorescence intensity with low ds DNA BP additions [0 50 micromolar] to OM 73, and significant typical increases in fluorescence signal with high ds DNA BP additions to OM 73 [above 100 micromolar]. OM 73 was titrated with low BP ds DNA additions at different NaCl concentrations in order to investigate the presence of charge dependent binding. It is pretty easy to make a list for both, but a bit easier to make a list for the pros, so we will do that. The first and most important things brought to us by technology is the communication. Pros We are a pretty social bunch, and with phones, social media and by other means we are able to contact people from long distances for no reason at all, and with no effort. Why Nations Fail By Daron Acemoglu And James Robinson Why Nations Fail Book Report In Why Nations Fail, Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson show that economic development is about more than just economics. Through a wide variety of natural experiments ranging from Latin America, to Sub Saharan Africa, to East Asia, they argue that it is institutions, both political and economic, that differentiate a country s economic success. Specifically, they separate institutions into inclusive and extractive. Inclusive political institutions engage the entire population, while extractive political institutions are ruled by an elite minority. Similarly, inclusive economic institutions promote property rights and competitive markets, while extractive economic institutions create monopolies and funnel wealth to the elite minority. The novel part of their thesis is the idea in order to have sustainable inclusive economic institutions, a country must first have inclusive political institutions. The film s narrative follows the unpredictable actions and reflections of two hit men who philosophically meditate out loud about the Bible, loyalty, and McDonald s hamburgers (Corrigan, White, 368). The movie goes against the three act structure of classic films as the story is told out of chronological order making the film so memorable to its viewers. Tarantino s film begins in a coffee shop and also ends in the same shop. The film s dialogue can range from absolutely pointless to completely captivating moments. Ashes complex relationship with her parents makes her choose between her mom or her dad. One lesson this story suggests is that no matter how much you love someone, you have to let them handle things on their own. In the beginning of the story, the readers can understand that is Ashes talking about her parents. Her mom is a practical person and always ready for anything, extra batteries for flashlights during a blackout or extra coins for laundry and her dad on the other hand, is an easygoing, carefree and willingness to help. In the story it says, ... All I can give you is dreams, Ashes. But one good dream is worth a thousand flashlight batteries. This provides an explanation of how her dad can only give her dreams and nothing else. He called her a name that made her feel special, something her mom did not do, and her mom did not promise things she could not fulfill. There is a part in the beginning of the story where Ashes, says When I was little, Dad used to promise me the stars for a necklace, but like most of his promises, that one never quite happened. This quote explains that he speaks more and is actionless. He has promised her things and accomplished nothing. If he had bought her a necklace with fake stars, it would make Ashes feel like her at least cared for her. He did not have to hype her up with hopes and then destroy them by not fulfilling it. • 16. Compare And Contrast Christianity In Beowulf The story of Beowulf deals with life, death, violence, kings, and monsters. Written around 800 CE, and then picked up hundreds of years later to be rewritten by a monk, it is written well after the coming of Christ. It could be simply read as an action adventure, filled with conquests and elaborate feasts, as were common of Old English tales. The story is not that simple though, and gives us a peek into a culture going through some drastic changes. Once built upon a Pagan belief system void of Christ and saturated with values such as revenge and violence, the Anglo Saxons did not immediately adopt all of Christianity. There was a lengthy time in which both sets of beliefs were muddled and weaved together haphazardly, where no one religion was distinct. Beowulfis an example of these cultural influences crashing together. While Christianity in Beowulf, the Old English epic poem, looks different than the Christianity we recognize today, the story is built with Christian values. The plot itself may seem classically medieval, with characters and events that the people would have appreciated, but the underlying messages reveal where the culture was heading. The story follows a main character, Beowulf, who is a traditional epic hero. Her hair was matted and frizzy, appearing as if it hadn t been brushed in years. What d you say your name was? she asked, then reached down, picked up the butt of a cigar lighting it, puffing to get it lit. I had not even spoken a word to her; but I was not going to be rude, so I told her my name. My names Miss Julie, she said thoughtfully... I had a sister named Susan, she was a pretty lady like you. she mused. I smiled and said thank you, Miss Julie. Then turned back to my sister, with whom I was trying to engage in conversation, to get her out of her own fantasy world. When the old lady spoke up again, saying that she wished she still had a sister to visit with her, as I was doing with mine. Your sister, she s a real sweet lady, she said. Yes ma am, she is, I agreed, turning again back to my sister. Miss Julie though, lonely for conversation again spoke up and this time my sister joined in, if only for a moment or two, till she again drifted back into her own fantasy world. However, crime rates in the 1980 s was comparatively lower than the recent years. The arrest rate may have lowered, but this could mean that children are becoming more efficient criminals. Which is why we need to reinforce the juvenile justice system. A quote from Hanna Chiou further fortifies this statement. ...if our justice system uses mental incompetency as the reason juveniles have their own separate and more lenient court, why aren t 40 year olds with the mind of a 10 year old prosecuted in the juvenile justice system... The restoration of peace following this successful feat ushered in an era of optimism. If hard work could win the war, then it could also bring possibility. Once again, the hope of achieving the American Dream was alive with the belief of attainable success. However, such sentiment was not shared by authors and playwrights of the modernism movement. Both Tennessee Williams and Arthur Miller saw past the shiny veneer of hope to the consequence of believing in such a dream. In his 1947 work, A Streetcar Named Desire, Williams highlights the culture shock of the melting pot that is New Orleans. Following in 1949, Miller focuses on the Death of a Salesmanand the side effects of burgeoning commercialization. Despite their differences in setting, both A Streetcar Named Desire and Death of a Salesman delve into the facade of the American Dream and the cost many pay for desperately and fruitlessly chasing after it. In prominent lines by Blanche and Willy, both playwrights explore the web of misconceptions and false ideals that surround the perception of the American Dream. In A Streetcar Named Desire, Blanche s seemingly quintessential Southern Belle demeanor is laid bare by Mitch s curiosity. A big problem is that not only does adult crime dramas include violence, but so do cartoons and slapstick comedies. Scheibe explains some other effects of violence on television are that children may become less sensitive to the pain and suffering of others in reality and television. She also states that children may behave in aggressive and harmful ways to others. Scheibe says the reason for this is, The impact of TV violence on aggression seems to be partly due to imitation of the aggressive actions that children see (particularly if they are done by the good guys ) and partly due to the message that aggression works to get what you want and it s okay to use aggression it you are justified in doing so. The Aspects Of The Moral Tales In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales In the General Prologue of Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the Host instructs the pilgrims to tell Tales of best sentence and moost solaas (GP 798). In other words, in order to win the contest, the pilgrims must tell stories which both impart serious meaning/wisdom ( sentence ) as well as entertainment ( solaas ). While the pilgrims all achieve these two goals to varying degrees, The Pardoner s Tale seems at first to succeed very well in providing both moralteaching and entertainment. However, while his tale effortlessly satisfies the solaas requirement, the Pardoner cannot truly provide the sentence he aims for, as his lesson degrades into hypocrisy and he lacks the respect from the other pilgrims necessary to afford his tale the impact he intends. The Pardoner s Tale, an exemplum intended to demonstrate the phrase radix malorum est cupiditas (greed is the root of all evil), tells of three riotoures (degenerates) who wish to find and kill Death. However the men do indeed find Death underneath the tree, as they end up killing each other due to their own greed. This tale easily satisfies the solaas requirement in its entertainment value.
