Essay on Literature Review on Unemployment
Literature Review on Unemployment
Introduction
Unemployment is recognised as one of the most challenging social problems currently facing
Australia. In the last two decades and more recently with the global recession high levels of
unemployment have become an established feature of the South Australian social and economic
landscape, with young people aged 15 to 24 years among those hardest hit by unemployment.
In the past quarter the unemployment rate in South Australia has remained steady at 5.6% (Australian
Bureau of Statistics, 2009) but this figure is volatile and may increase next month. The youth
unemployment rate, however, in South Australia remains at 21.9% with the Western and Northern
suburbs having significantly higher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The absence of employment, therefore, can mean that many people do not have vital human needs met
such as an opportunity to exercise control, to use and develop skills and have contact with others.
The research literature shows a strong association between unemployment and ill health. Some illness
is caused by unemployment whilst other health problems are exacerbated by unemployment ( Smith,
1987; Mathers Schofield,1998). An Australian summary of the health and unemployment literature by
Mathers and Schofield (1998) identified that unemployment has detrimental effects on mental health,
physical health and health related behaviours.
Mental Health
The evidence that unemployment has negative effects on mental health is strong. Mental health effects
on young unemployed people include low self esteem and confidence
( Gurney, 1980; Prause and Dooley, 1997), increased incidence of depression ( Patton and Noller,
1990; Winefield et al, 1993; West Sweeting, 1996), stress related symptoms ( Hammarstrom, 1994)
and higher levels of anxiety ( Morrell et al, 1994; West Sweeting,1996). In their study, Morrell et al
(1998) find a strong association between unemployment in young 15 to 25 year olds and youth
suicide.
Physical Health
Research has shown the links between unemployment and higher morbidity and mortality rates(
Mathers and Schofield) where health outcomes are poorer and premature deaths are

New President s House Research Paper
History: Before the President s House left us without a trace, it was a working and living space for
many important people. The new President s House opened in 1767, was built by Mary Lawrence
Masters. It existed as a government site. With the new nation s capital as Philadelphia with
Washington, DC being created, our leaders would now have somewhere to work, and living space.
People like George Washington, John Adams, Richard Penn, General Sir William Howe, and Benedict
Arnold each worked here making the brick home their headquarters. The grandson of William Penn
(the founder of Pennsylvania); Richard Penn married Polly Masters (the oldest daughter of the founder
and builder of the house). The newlywed couple received the home as a wedding present from Mary
Lawrence Masters. Richard and Polly owned the house from 1772 1775, and right after, General Sir
William Howe made the house his residence from 1777 to 1778, not sticking around for a long time.
Benedict Arnold then came after him, and made the wondrous house his headquarters from 1778 to
1779. George Washington stayed from 1790 to 1797 he spent quite a long time in this house, and also
signed important documents here. Adams only stayed for three years while coming into the house in
1797. He left in 1800 and moved into the freshly finished White House in DC. ... Show more content

Candy In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
We all know that saver in our lives who coupons and or saves his or her money. Those same people
can be smart in the way they talk and the way they display themselves to others. Who acknowledges
the responsibilities of common sense and organize themselves to last longer at a job and function with
ease. Without the hassle of clutter, these examples provide evidence that Candy is the smartest
character. In the novel Of Mice And Men there is a man named Candy. Who Steinbeck describes him
as Old candy, the swamper, came in and went to his bunk, and behind him struggled his old dog (43).

What Is Your Hair Essay
I am my hair. A shoulder length pile of sun kissed waves, kinks, and ringlet ends. Breakage, split ends,
dryness, and kinky roots. There is a myriad of textures, some natural, some chemically enhanced. My
identity and growth are tied directly to my curly hair; struggles and feelings of uniqueness are woven
through each strand. When I realized I had curly hair, everything changed.
At 6 years old, I only had the word poofy to describe my hair. With no time to spare on my
unmanageable mane, my mother would brush dry curls into pigtails, creating a frizzy mess. In school I
learned to apologize because my hair was in the way of those sitting behind me. I did not look like the
White girls with their straight hair, yet I did not look like the Black girls with their coarser curls and
relaxed styles. I learned to view myself through my hair, and since no one else reflected my image, I
never saw myself.
At 10 years old, I got my first chemical blowout granting me bone straight hair (as long as I kept
inside, humidity was not easy to avoid in Florida). At school I was inundated with compliments about
my straightened hair. I spent the next five years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My locks loosened up and my wavy hair was considered exotic and beautiful. I piled on more
chemical treatment on top of already chemically treated hair, giving me wavy roots and straight ends.
My hair was no longer a part of me. It was who I wanted to be perceived as, a mask I hid behind. My
hair now gave me a label: I was seen as mixed. It was not until ninth grade that I realized I had been
on a wild hunt searching for a label under which my hair fit. It was not White. It was not Black. I was
not Mixed. Did I not fit under the label of Hispanic? Why was my ethnicity in question every time I
looked in the mirror? I had to decide if I wanted kinky Afro hair which applied to my Cuban heritage
or if I wanted to keep straightening my hair, killing a characteristic of my

1993 World Trade Center Bombing Analysis
1993 World Trade Center Bombing
On February 26, 1993, Middle Eastern inspired terrorism truly hit the United States homeland. A small
group of seven terrorists rented a van, parked it in the underground parking garage of the World Trade
Center, departed and then detonated it. The explosion resulted in six killed, more than one thousand
injured, and a nearly 100 foot crater that was several stories deep. (FBI, 2008).
The ensuing investigation involved the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and New York Joint
Terrorism Task Force and many FBI agents worldwide. The investigation revealed many clues. The
first was the vehicle identification number for the rented van, which led to the arrest of Mohammad
Salameh. More clues eventually led to the arrest of five other members of the group.
After the attack, the Port Authority spent vast sums of money to repair the building as well as
improving the operational and safety capabilities of the facility. Security was strengthened and all
visitors were required to be screened and receive visitor badges. A radio repeater was also installed to
improve communications within the entire complex. (Aftermath, 2014).

Women s Role In The Middle Ages
From Submission to Equally: The Struggle Continues
Women as social agent played a secondary role in the middle ages. That condition keeps them away
from any participation in the direct taking of decisions. A special feature on women was strongly
marked from the moment itself of their birth, not only by the social status to which they belonged, but
for the genre. Women s role was always relegated to their husbands to whom they owed submission
and obedience. Therefore, the female status remained on a clearly lower level than the male.
Historic in the medieval world, life was established according to the social and religious order. Thus,
following religious precepts, the woman, the weak creäture, should be always submitted to God, but
also in her early life to the father, and then to the husband; if she could not be a virgin, holy or
religious then, should be a wife and mother.
Thus, as soon as the imposed education was assimilated on having married, those woman met one of
its main goals: find a husband. Marriage represented for their the opportunity to play a role in the
society. In this way they performs a cherished ambition, in exchange for which pronounces the
promise which includes serving and obey. While this did not mean that medieval women universally
experienced marriage as oppression, it did mean that throughout ... Show more content on

actually make them value was the degree of submission al loyalty to their husbands instead of finding
it in the responsibility for their own actions, because actually the acts that they perform autonomously

Vocation
People of genius do not excel in any profession because they work in it, they work in it because they
exel. Such a large part of our lives is figuring out what to do with our lives. There are so many
options; often times people are lost as to where to go. In our society, many of the decisions we make
are made with money in mind. People will do almost anything for money, even if that means being
unhappy. This class, and my SI education in general has framed for me a new way of living. That is,
living happily. This does not mean that the work/job I perform is not hard. Instead, it means, that I
must find something that I enjoy doing, and find a career based around my interest. This concept is
essentially vocation. Mick McCarthy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
McCarthy believes that he was partly shaped by his home environment (which was steeped in civic
responsibility ) and his educational background. His Jesuit education at SI and SCU gave him the
language to access and discover what, at a far more profound and mysterious level, I so desired. In
sum, McCarthy s discovery of vocation is a combination of mystery, history, desire and attraction. His
approach in determination of a vocation appears to largely a dialogue with himself and God. Spohn
frames his essay on vocation with Ignatian spirituality. He opens with a description of a job seeker
who wants more than just financial compensation from his life work. He wants his job to have more
meaning. In other words, this job seeker is called to the challenge of discernment in determining a
vocation. Spohn breaks down the different aspects of how Ignatian spiritually helps one seek the right
vocation for them. The first important step is prayerful reflection. This helps one understand personal
desires, special talents and the needs of the world and helps set a foundation for seeking and choosing
a path. An authentic calling goes beyond personal fulfillment and satisfaction to a broader concern for
justice which demands that the needs of others are addressed, even if they are strangers.

Due to Frank s father s health problems, the Norris family moved to Oakland, California, in 1882 and
the following year settled in San Francisco. He attended a preparatory school and Boys High School,
however neither of which suited his limited interest in schooling. He was then enrolled San Francisco
Art Association, where he studied painting. He studied art in London and Paris, however, his interest
in painting soon waned, and after two years he returned home. However, during his stay at Paris, he

The Reggio Emili A Model Of Early Childhood Development...
The Reggio Emilia approach is one that is a model, inspiring early childhood development education. .
As children are natural explorers, they enjoy their environment and would love it to be a part of their
own creation and knowledge. A typical day in a center that is based off of the Reggio Emilia approach
is centered on the interests of the child and the guidance from the teachers. There are various
opportunities that are provided to the children from a Reggio Emilia Approach.
This approach was a model of early childhood education that was based on the foundation that would
facilitate a child s learning through different ways. The ways, such as expressive, communicative, and
cognitive, were intended to progress early childhood development. This approach was founded by a
man who was an early education specialist from Reggio Emilia, a town in North Italy. The man s
name was Loris Malaguzzi. His vision attracted the world through his project and play based
curriculum. It was also based on the play of children and the guide of educators. The overall approach
is combined from principles that were based off of child centered curriculums. These types of
curriculums included parents, educators, the communities, and the children. This formulated what was
known as the environment. The environment is known to be the third teacher because it is set up by
the educators in order to observe and further the learning of the child. An important factor of this
approach is documenting. This

Who Is Lennie A Good Character In Of Mice And Men
Everybody has good and bad characteristics right? Lennie from the novel of mice and Men by John
Steinbeck has many positive traits and negative traits. Lennie is always getting George frustrated, but
Lennie cares about George as George cares for him. One positive trait that Lennie has is that he is very
caring. Suddenly Lennie s eyes centered and grew quiet, and mad. He stood up and walked
dangerously toward crooks. Who hurt George? He demanded.(p.66) Lennie is mad at crooks because
he begins to make Lennie worried by telling him that George is hurt. Lennie cares about George, so he
gets mad that there is a chance George is hurt. He does this to make sure that George is safe. A second
positive trait that Lennie has is that he is strong. On page 37 slim says There ain t nobody can keep up
with him. God awmighty I never seen such a strong guy. This shows how strong Lennie is and how
much work he can get done because of his strength. One last positive trait that Lennie has is that he

Economic Commentary on Comcast s Prospective Acquisition...
IB Economic Commentary
Even in technology there are monstrous firms that are power thirsty and try to have the whole market
to themselves. Comcast wants to acquire Time Warner Cable for a $45 billion offer. This is a
disadvantage to the consumers because Comcast will have the position as the dominant cable operator.
Furthermore, that could lead to a decline in competitive pressure. Therefore, is it a wise decision for
the deal to be allowed to go through?
Monopoly is a single firm that controls the market of a given product. In a monopoly there is an
absence of competition, which results in high prices and inferior products. Because there is an absence
of competition and the firm has total domination of the market, the demand curve in the entire market
for the good is equal to the demand for the individual firm s output. A key characteristic of a
monopoly is the individual s firm downward sloping demand that shows that the firm has some market
power. Market power is the ability to control price without losing market share. A monopoly s profit
maximization is achieved when marginal cost equals marginal revenue.
Comcast is already a monopoly in a few states, but with the acquisition of Time Warner Cable, it will
obtain coverage of almost one third of the United States as seen in the map below (Graph 1). With one
third of the United States covered by one cable corporation, that leads to an absence of competition.
Therefore, we see in the graph below that Comcast will cause

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Different Factors That...
3. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of the different means that firms use to enter foreign
markets. The essential act of entrepreneurship is new entry. New entry can be accomplished by
entering new or established markets with new or existing goods and services. New entry is the act of
launching a new venture, either by a start up firm, through an existing firm, or via internal corporate
venturing. Lumpkin and Deaa, 19969:136) Beyond importing, international expansion is achieved
through five common international expansion entry mode i.e. exporting, licensing arrangements,
partnering and strategic alliances, acquisitions, and establishing new, wholly owned subsidiaries, also
known as Greenfield ventures.
Companies entering a foreign market have to choose a strategy. The type of strategy chosen can be

The advantage of this mode of entry is that firms avoid the expense of establishing operations in the
new country. Firms distribute their product in the new market by having a contractual agreement with
the local company. There are three types of exports
Direct exports: the producing company is in direct contact with the foreign market.
Indirect exports: domestic company takes care of the exporting activities of the manufacturing firm.
Corporate exports: firms get in collaboration with other firms to produce product to export. By
cooperating the firms achieve higher economies of scale and have a broader product concept.
Intermediate Entry Mode
This mode is basically used for the transfer of knowledge and skills but may also create export
opportunities. In this mode the ownership and control is shared by the firm and the local partner.
Types of arrangements in intermediate entry mode are:
Licensing
Franchising
Contract manufacturing

Theme Of Chivalry In The Knight s Tale
Geoffrey Chaucer s romantic poem The Knight s Tale chronicles the adventures of two ancient Greek
knights and their quest to win the affection of Emily, a beautiful noblewoman. Bound to uphold the
chivalric code of loyalty and honor of the time, Palamon and Arcite discover themselves at odds with
their noble ideals as they battle one another in pursuit of love. Unable to reconcile the knight s oath of
honor with their obsessive and selfish desires, the actions of Chaucer s main characters fail to uphold
the basic principles of chivalry.
As a first example, Chaucer highlights the knights struggle to uphold their pledge of chivalry when a
disagreement arises between the two comrades over who holds the right and privilege to love Emily.

Allowing their feelings to cloud their judgment and control their actions, the men lose all sense of
reason and decorum as they resort to antagonistic behavior and name calling; contrary to the standards
of the pledge they have avowed to honor. Rossignol asserts Chaucer s characters undercut the very
ethos [of chivalry] . . . the knights themselves display ambivalence toward their own motives and
behavior (Rossignol). Palamon and Arcite, oblivious to any personal responsibility or wrongdoing in
the dispute over Emily, expect the other to uphold the chivalric code without doing so himself. Most
certainly, if one or both of the men heeded the high expectations of conduct, they would spare their
brotherhood and avoid the perils of their battle, but neither man finds it within his conscience to do so.
In like manner, Theseus actions also diverge from the ideals of chivalry as he aims to further his
political standing. When he finds Acrite and Palamon dueling in the grove, Theseus rules the men to
reassemble this day fifty wykes, fer ne ner, / Everich of you shal brynge an hundred knyghtes / armed
for lystes up at alle rightes to win Emily s hand in marriage (1850 1852). Instead of a traditional dual
with limited bloodshed and a quick resolution, Theseus, motivated by his noble self interests, opts for
a violent spectacle to entertain his people, even constructing a grandiose arena for viewing the battle.
Similarly, when charged by his parliament to

Injustice In My Oedipus Complex
Hence, Greene portrays Jerome as a warden with no fear of troubles to mollify the anger inside him
for what he suffered from his friends. Looking at Jerome, people can visualize a part of Greene s life.
Another point needed to mention is that Greene was sent to London for psychotherapy due to his
mental and emotional problems (Encyclopedia of world biography, 2017). Just like Greene, Jerome
also has mental illness or even depression which is clearly proven by his reaction when he heard about
his father s new. Jerome was unfeeling about the death of his father, he even did not cry or surprise at
all. Certainly, the imagery of Jerome not only exposes the aspiration of the author but reflect the
inmost feelings of him.
Additionally, each author has their own way setting characters and telling the story either by the third
point of view or the first point of view to make the best effect on readers. The meaning of point of
view it self is something refers to the story which is told or it also can be said that point of view is a

Explain The Golden Rule In American Culture
The Golden Rule states that we are to treat other people as we would like to be treated ourselves. It is
followed by fellow believers and is recognized in all cultures and almost all major religions. R.M.
MacIver states that this is the only rule that stands by itself in the light of its own reason, the only rule
that can stand by itself in the naked, warring universe, in the face of the contending values of men and
groups (274).
All cultures have morals and ethics, but what looks unethical to us could possibly be a way of life for
that particular culture. If they think they are right about their morals and ethics, how can we judge
them? Here in America we do have a standard set of morals but who s to say that we all follow those

Essay about A Woman Has NO Right to Choose Muder (Abortion)
In our nation today, abortion is being used as another form of birth control. It is not until later, that the
woman realizes the mistake she made. Abortion will continue to be taken for granted until it becomes
illegal. Prohibiting abortion will prevent innocent babies from being deprived of life. Let s begin this
essay by reading at a true life story of a woman who had an abortion.
I learned that I was pregnant at the age of eighteen, shortly after moving in with my boyfriend. Feeling
scared and insecure, I didn t know how a baby would fit into my future. Upon seeking counsel from
friends and family, it seemed logical to consider abortion as an option. After all, I was young, pretty

became curious and looked under the covers to see what was there until that instant when I saw a
baby, red and bloody and small, but a baby still. I quickly covered myself back up and called the
nurse. While I waited, I became terrified that it wasn t dead. Lying in the same bed with me was flesh

Essay On Urban Planning By Jane Jacobs
JANE JACOBS CITY STREETS AND THE MIX OF USES
Urban planning is an important aspect of city life, especially in light of today s dynamic economy and
environment. With increasing levels of crime, pollution, and environmental degradation, many cities
are looking for new solutions to solve these. Large influences on the ideas that are shaping urban
planning today come from urban theorist, Jane Jacobs. Jacobs challenged the way urban planners,
architects, urban designer and sociologist thought about cities. In order to solve the kind of problem
which cities pose , Jacobs promotes the idea of the use of sidewalks includes three majors. It is about
city sidewalk safety and sidewalk contacts. Jacobs wrote that there must be eyes upon the street, eyes
belonging to those we might call the natural proprietors of the street. Through analyzing and
observing such things as city streets and sidewalks, neighborhood parks within a city and what Jacobs
refers to as the four generators of diversity , Jacobs has developed theories that can guide city

terminology of urban planning. She demonstrates the vitality and benefits of busy sidewalks on the
basis of the street life at her doorstep in Greenwich Village. Jacobs depicts how a marvelous order for
maintaining the safety of the streets is working under the seeming disorder of the city. Her description

Child Sexual Abuse (ASA)
Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) and Adolescent Sexual Abuse (ASA) basically encompasses the
involvement of a child in sexual behaviors or activities that the child is neither physically nor mentally
prepared to initiate or to get involved into. It includes all the cases of victims who lack the capacity to
consent, as well as the legal standards specific to each country. Of the different forms of child abuse,
CSA and ASA is linked to severe injury. Numerous empirical studies have established a relationship
among CSA, ASA and psychological injuries such as Major Depressive Disorder, Dysthymia,

This meta analysis necessitates, certain limitations that should be fetched in our conscience when
elucidating the data. The ground truth of the primary studies for the classification of abuse generally
rests on self reports of a retrospective nature, that relies on individual memory capabilities, and are
related to false positives or false alarms. Victims self reports of sexual abuse may bias the results
towards concealing them (false negatives), in particular for males. Primary studies assume that injury
to mental health is ramifying to abuse, without gauging other possible causes (cause effect
relationship). The effect of the variables under analysis in primary studies was not completely isolated
as in many studies victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect, and other categories appear under
the same umbrella. And as some studies had no control group, the normative population was taken as
the contrast group, or it was not equivalent to the experimental one with the subsequent potential for
distortion in the calculated effect sizes. Alternatively, the results of the meta analysis were subject to
little variability, that is, Ns 400 and a large k were highly generalizable (entirely for the female
population, and for males with the exception of the diagnosis of a disorder and the general measure of
anxiety for the male population), whereas 93 studies with no significant results would be required to
annul the evidence supporting the claim that CSA and ASA leads to mental health injuries. Further
research is required to determine which moderators inhibit the generalization of the effects in the
general measure of anxiety in the male population and in the diagnosis of depression and

Should Nuclear Power Plants Be Banned
Should nuclear power plants be banned?
Nuclear power plants have been around for many years. The first nuclear power plant was built in
1954. The controversy over them is whether they are harmful or beneficial to the environment and to
humans. We as humans tend use a lot of energy. Nuclear power plants are so called a strong candidate
for supplying our energy. There are many harmful remarks on nuclear power plants, and today I am
here to talk about why they should be potentially reduced if not banned. For starters it can lead to
cancer for children young of age, it can be used a weapon for destroying or targeting our country, and
how expensive they are related to other fuel factors. For instance, nuclear power plants are shown to
have an effect on kids with cancer. According to Ten Strikes Against Nuclear Power, There are
growing concerns that living near even accident free nuclear plants increases the risk for childhood
leukemia and other cancers. One Texas study found increased cancer rates in north central Texas since
a nuclear power plant was established in 1990, and a recent German study found childhood leukemia
clusters near several nuclear power sites in Europe (source 2). These power plants are causing
innocent kids to get cancer and leukemia which plays a huge role in a child s life who suffers from
one. Even though it is accident free it can still lead to other types of accidents. In many cases nuclear
power plants can be used as a weapon for many things involving nuclear. According to Ten Strikes
Against Nuclear Power, Nuclear reactors represent a clear national security risk, and an attractive
target for terrorists (source 2). Nuclear missiles, bombs, and other sorts of weapons can be used to
destroy or target our country. Robert Kennedy had found out that there are at least eight relatively easy
ways to cause a major meltdown at a nuclear power plant (source 2). Most nuclear power plants are
used as a target and advantage for war on other countries, including ours. In addition to the reasons
why nuclear power plants are harmful is the fact that they cost so much money to build. According to

The Montessori Method Essay
The Montessori Method (Word count includes Annotated Bibliography)
The Montessori method began in the early 1900 s by the first female doctor in Italy, Dr. Mary
Montessori, as a way of educating mentally disabled children. Her ideas were so successful with these
children that she began to apply her understanding of learning to study the potential of normally
functioning children (Oalf, 2001). Dr. Montessori s approach to education stresses the importance of
learning styles, independence and responsibility.
According to Maria Montessori, In the special environment prepared?in our schools, the children

1957). The ?prepared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In reality, the children move about the classroom independently, choosing the order of their learning
activities. There may be 15 or more activities, or ?jobs? as they are called in some Montessori
classrooms, occurring at the same time with small groups or individual work, yet the classroom
remains quiet, yet busy and productive, sometimes with the soft hush of classical music playing in the
background. Many Montessori school classrooms place a card around the child?s neck with the day?s
objectives written in the form of a checklist for the students to monitor themselves. This checklist
encourages the students to take responsibility for their own learning, as well as discourages prompt
dependence, since the student need not wait for instruction. Some of the activities in a Montessori
classroom include reading, pre reading using phonics, math, discovery science and writing. Children
learn skills in a way that he or she is not aware that learning is taking place. For example, a child
playing in the sand box with a small rake is not aware that he or she is learning fine motor skills and
how to hold and control a pencil. Another observation in a Montessori classroom is that most
classrooms tend to span three grade levels. This practice allows to children to become mentors to
younger students. Also, the large gap in developmental levels allows children to ?learn at their own
pace? (Keller, 2001), which is another important Montessori

Cognitive Social Learning Theory
Cognitive Social Learning Theory

May 3, 2012
Cognitive Social Learning Theory
I have selected this theory primarily because I believe that a great majority of our learning during the
course of our entire lives is achieved by observation. Bandura s social cognitive theory is a learning
based on the ideas that people learn by watching what others do and that human thought processes are
central to understanding personality. While social cognition experts agree that there is a fair amount of
influence on development generated by learned behavior displayed in the environment in which one
grows up, they believe that the individual person is just as important in determining moral
development. People learn by observing others, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While watching and observing children play, you can discover their interests. You can see more than
the children just having fun, but you may witness any strengths and/or weaknesses in personality,
learning or interactive abilities. By observing children I was able to learn their developmental level,
such as who the leader of the group was or what leaders were in competition to lead the play session.
Thus observing the children interact I could learn a lot about their respective personalities. From my
observation, the child that was obviously in charge of this group had either an older sibling, relative or
perhaps was mimicking what he saw on television by directing and giving instruction to the other
children who were playing with him. In the game of organized basketball there is one leader on the
court for each team. That leader is normally the point guard position. The child may already possess
the personality of being a leader, but he had to observe and learn the other details he exuded by
watching what he had seen in live action or by television.
I can personally relate to this theory the most because in retrospect I realize that a great deal of my
behavioral learning was developed through observation. I wouldn t consider where I grew up as a
child as being the ghetto , but the area was rough, and I believe it is safe to say that there was a
survival of the fittest mentality. There was a certain assertive aggressiveness that I

  • 2. Essay on Literature Review on Unemployment Literature Review on Unemployment Introduction Unemployment is recognised as one of the most challenging social problems currently facing Australia. In the last two decades and more recently with the global recession high levels of unemployment have become an established feature of the South Australian social and economic landscape, with young people aged 15 to 24 years among those hardest hit by unemployment. In the past quarter the unemployment rate in South Australia has remained steady at 5.6% (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2009) but this figure is volatile and may increase next month. The youth unemployment rate, however, in South Australia remains at 21.9% with the Western and Northern suburbs having significantly higher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The absence of employment, therefore, can mean that many people do not have vital human needs met such as an opportunity to exercise control, to use and develop skills and have contact with others. The research literature shows a strong association between unemployment and ill health. Some illness is caused by unemployment whilst other health problems are exacerbated by unemployment ( Smith, 1987; Mathers Schofield,1998). An Australian summary of the health and unemployment literature by Mathers and Schofield (1998) identified that unemployment has detrimental effects on mental health, physical health and health related behaviours. Mental Health The evidence that unemployment has negative effects on mental health is strong. Mental health effects on young unemployed people include low self esteem and confidence ( Gurney, 1980; Prause and Dooley, 1997), increased incidence of depression ( Patton and Noller, 1990; Winefield et al, 1993; West Sweeting, 1996), stress related symptoms ( Hammarstrom, 1994) and higher levels of anxiety ( Morrell et al, 1994; West Sweeting,1996). In their study, Morrell et al (1998) find a strong association between unemployment in young 15 to 25 year olds and youth suicide. • 6. What Is Your Hair Essay I am my hair. A shoulder length pile of sun kissed waves, kinks, and ringlet ends. Breakage, split ends, dryness, and kinky roots. There is a myriad of textures, some natural, some chemically enhanced. My identity and growth are tied directly to my curly hair; struggles and feelings of uniqueness are woven through each strand. When I realized I had curly hair, everything changed. At 6 years old, I only had the word poofy to describe my hair. With no time to spare on my unmanageable mane, my mother would brush dry curls into pigtails, creating a frizzy mess. In school I learned to apologize because my hair was in the way of those sitting behind me. I did not look like the White girls with their straight hair, yet I did not look like the Black girls with their coarser curls and relaxed styles. I learned to view myself through my hair, and since no one else reflected my image, I never saw myself. At 10 years old, I got my first chemical blowout granting me bone straight hair (as long as I kept inside, humidity was not easy to avoid in Florida). At school I was inundated with compliments about my straightened hair. I spent the next five years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was not until ninth grade that I realized I had been on a wild hunt searching for a label under which my hair fit. It was not White. It was not Black. I was not Mixed. Did I not fit under the label of Hispanic? Why was my ethnicity in question every time I looked in the mirror? I had to decide if I wanted kinky Afro hair which applied to my Cuban heritage or if I wanted to keep straightening my hair, killing a characteristic of my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A small group of seven terrorists rented a van, parked it in the underground parking garage of the World Trade Center, departed and then detonated it. The explosion resulted in six killed, more than one thousand injured, and a nearly 100 foot crater that was several stories deep. (FBI, 2008). The ensuing investigation involved the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and New York Joint Terrorism Task Force and many FBI agents worldwide. The investigation revealed many clues. The first was the vehicle identification number for the rented van, which led to the arrest of Mohammad Salameh. More clues eventually led to the arrest of five other members of the group. After the attack, the Port Authority spent vast sums of money to repair the building as well as improving the operational and safety capabilities of the facility. • 8. Women s Role In The Middle Ages From Submission to Equally: The Struggle Continues Women as social agent played a secondary role in the middle ages. That condition keeps them away from any participation in the direct taking of decisions. A special feature on women was strongly marked from the moment itself of their birth, not only by the social status to which they belonged, but for the genre. Women s role was always relegated to their husbands to whom they owed submission and obedience. Therefore, the female status remained on a clearly lower level than the male. Historic in the medieval world, life was established according to the social and religious order. Thus, following religious precepts, the woman, the weak creäture, should be always submitted to God, but also in her early life to the father, and then to the husband; if she could not be a virgin, holy or religious then, should be a wife and mother. Thus, as soon as the imposed education was assimilated on having married, those woman met one of its main goals: find a husband. • 11. Vocation People of genius do not excel in any profession because they work in it, they work in it because they exel. Such a large part of our lives is figuring out what to do with our lives. There are so many options; often times people are lost as to where to go. In our society, many of the decisions we make are made with money in mind. People will do almost anything for money, even if that means being unhappy. This class, and my SI education in general has framed for me a new way of living. That is, living happily. This does not mean that the work/job I perform is not hard. Instead, it means, that I must find something that I enjoy doing, and find a career based around my interest. This concept is essentially vocation. Mick McCarthy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... McCarthy believes that he was partly shaped by his home environment (which was steeped in civic responsibility ) and his educational background. His Jesuit education at SI and SCU gave him the language to access and discover what, at a far more profound and mysterious level, I so desired. In sum, McCarthy s discovery of vocation is a combination of mystery, history, desire and attraction. His approach in determination of a vocation appears to largely a dialogue with himself and God. Spohn frames his essay on vocation with Ignatian spirituality. He opens with a description of a job seeker who wants more than just financial compensation from his life work. He wants his job to have more meaning. In other words, this job seeker is called to the challenge of discernment in determining a vocation. Spohn breaks down the different aspects of how Ignatian spiritually helps one seek the right vocation for them. The first important step is prayerful reflection. This helps one understand personal desires, special talents and the needs of the world and helps set a foundation for seeking and choosing a path. An authentic calling goes beyond personal fulfillment and satisfaction to a broader concern for justice which demands that the needs of others are addressed, even if they are strangers. ... • 21. Economic Commentary on Comcast s Prospective Acquisition... IB Economic Commentary Even in technology there are monstrous firms that are power thirsty and try to have the whole market to themselves. Comcast wants to acquire Time Warner Cable for a $45 billion offer. This is a disadvantage to the consumers because Comcast will have the position as the dominant cable operator. Furthermore, that could lead to a decline in competitive pressure. Therefore, is it a wise decision for the deal to be allowed to go through? Monopoly is a single firm that controls the market of a given product. In a monopoly there is an absence of competition, which results in high prices and inferior products. Because there is an absence of competition and the firm has total domination of the market, the demand curve in the entire market for the good is equal to the demand for the individual firm s output. A key characteristic of a monopoly is the individual s firm downward sloping demand that shows that the firm has some market power. Market power is the ability to control price without losing market share. A monopoly s profit maximization is achieved when marginal cost equals marginal revenue. Comcast is already a monopoly in a few states, but with the acquisition of Time Warner Cable, it will obtain coverage of almost one third of the United States as seen in the map below (Graph 1). With one third of the United States covered by one cable corporation, that leads to an absence of competition. Therefore, we see in the graph below that Comcast will cause ... Theme Of Chivalry In The Knight s Tale Geoffrey Chaucer s romantic poem The Knight s Tale chronicles the adventures of two ancient Greek knights and their quest to win the affection of Emily, a beautiful noblewoman. Bound to uphold the chivalric code of loyalty and honor of the time, Palamon and Arcite discover themselves at odds with their noble ideals as they battle one another in pursuit of love. Unable to reconcile the knight s oath of honor with their obsessive and selfish desires, the actions of Chaucer s main characters fail to uphold the basic principles of chivalry. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Allowing their feelings to cloud their judgment and control their actions, the men lose all sense of reason and decorum as they resort to antagonistic behavior and name calling; contrary to the standards of the pledge they have avowed to honor. Rossignol asserts Chaucer s characters undercut the very ethos [of chivalry] . . . the knights themselves display ambivalence toward their own motives and behavior (Rossignol). Palamon and Arcite, oblivious to any personal responsibility or wrongdoing in the dispute over Emily, expect the other to uphold the chivalric code without doing so himself. Most certainly, if one or both of the men heeded the high expectations of conduct, they would spare their brotherhood and avoid the perils of their battle, but neither man finds it within his conscience to do so. In like manner, Theseus actions also diverge from the ideals of chivalry as he aims to further his political standing. Looking at Jerome, people can visualize a part of Greene s life. Another point needed to mention is that Greene was sent to London for psychotherapy due to his mental and emotional problems (Encyclopedia of world biography, 2017). Just like Greene, Jerome also has mental illness or even depression which is clearly proven by his reaction when he heard about his father s new. Jerome was unfeeling about the death of his father, he even did not cry or surprise at all. This meta analysis necessitates, certain limitations that should be fetched in our conscience when elucidating the data. The ground truth of the primary studies for the classification of abuse generally rests on self reports of a retrospective nature, that relies on individual memory capabilities, and are related to false positives or false alarms. Victims self reports of sexual abuse may bias the results towards concealing them (false negatives), in particular for males. Primary studies assume that injury to mental health is ramifying to abuse, without gauging other possible causes (cause effect relationship). The effect of the variables under analysis in primary studies was not completely isolated as in many studies victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect, and other categories appear under the same umbrella. And as some studies had no control group, the normative population was taken as the contrast group, or it was not equivalent to the experimental one with the subsequent potential for distortion in the calculated effect sizes. Alternatively, the results of the meta analysis were subject to little variability, that is, Ns 400 and a large k were highly generalizable (entirely for the female population, and for males with the exception of the diagnosis of a disorder and the general measure of anxiety for the male population), whereas 93 studies with no significant results would be required to annul the evidence supporting the claim that CSA and ASA leads to mental health injuries. Further research is required to determine which moderators inhibit the generalization of the effects in the general measure of anxiety in the male population and in the diagnosis of depression and ... • 33. Sij Dysfunction Reflection Examining patients with suspected SIJ dysfunction, I first begin with the examination with the lumbar segments to evaluate any instability or dysfunctions. I would check first CPR stenosis, then Zygapophyseal joint problems using Revel s criteria, especially absence of pain by cough/sneezing; no pain when the patient is rising from body flexion to extension position, and no pain by extension rotation criteria s would rule out facet problems. Tests like Slump, PA springing test, SLR, Crossed SLR, passive lumbar extension and prone spine instability tests, active lumbar repeated movements test would help me to rule out the LS pathologies. Next step, I would skip pelvic and move to the hip segment to clear intra articular and extra articular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Altogether using cluster of findings including provocation testing, pain location, palpation, strength testing, and mobility testing would help me to diagnose of painful SIJ pathology. There are new tests and measures in the monolith that I will definitely like to add to my evaluation for SIJ. The integrate mobility tests; stork test, lumbo pelvis rhythm, sacral and Ilium motion evaluations, I did not use in the past. Measuring spine, Ilium, sacrum, hip motion and movement patterns trough palpation and observation, I believe, would add value on my evaluation. Also, McGill s endurance tests (core ratio) are new for me to use with PGP patients. But I can see the correlation pelvic pain and the strength level of the abdominals. Overall, it is difficult to evaluate and diagnose pelvic joint dysfunction. The problem is that there is no accepted reference standard for SIJ movement dysfunction. The anatomy of functional pelvic girdle, load transfer system, and structural relationship and the pattern of intra pelvic motion during stance and swing phase are important in evaluation a SIJ patient as their pain and ... Streptococcus pneumoniae, (cause pneumonia, and upper lobe lesions) Klebsiella pneumoniae,(cause pneumonia, cause destructive changes to lungs, leading to rise the respiratory rate) Haemophilus influenzae, (cause pneumonia, opportunistic with alcoholism can lead to enlarge the liver) Moraxella catarrhalis, (cause pneumonia, pathogen with an affinity for the human upper respiratory tract) Staphylococcus aureus, (cause pneumonia, it usually affect patient with chronic illness) Legionella pneumophila, (cause pneumonia, it effects the temperature raising of the body) Organism: Klebsiella pneumoniae Reason: Bacterial pneumonia are rare in healthy host and usually occur in young children, the elderly, in alcoholics. The 60 year old man with severe chronic alcoholism is affected by the bacteria Klebsiella pneumoniae, because Klebsiella pneumoniae explains the lobar pneumonia particularly in the upper areas of the lungs where the man s infiltrates has been detected, Pneumonia procured from Klebsiella pneumoniae, is characterized by high fever, chills, chest pain and cough (Medicine,1997) . The patient in question has few symptoms related to this bacterium. The fever, raised his body temperature to 103 ºF and, the respiratory rate of 36 per minute which was caused by pneumonia. Klebsiella pneumoniae is a gram negative bacterium so gram staining of the sputum would be a good place to eliminate all the gram positive bacterium. However it has been reported this test has a ... • 36. Should Nuclear Power Plants Be Banned Should nuclear power plants be banned? Nuclear power plants have been around for many years. The first nuclear power plant was built in 1954. The controversy over them is whether they are harmful or beneficial to the environment and to humans. We as humans tend use a lot of energy. Nuclear power plants are so called a strong candidate for supplying our energy. There are many harmful remarks on nuclear power plants, and today I am here to talk about why they should be potentially reduced if not banned. For starters it can lead to cancer for children young of age, it can be used a weapon for destroying or targeting our country, and how expensive they are related to other fuel factors. For instance, nuclear power plants are shown to have an effect on kids with cancer. According to Ten Strikes Against Nuclear Power, There are growing concerns that living near even accident free nuclear plants increases the risk for childhood leukemia and other cancers. One Texas study found increased cancer rates in north central Texas since a nuclear power plant was established in 1990, and a recent German study found childhood leukemia clusters near several nuclear power sites in Europe (source 2). These power plants are causing innocent kids to get cancer and leukemia which plays a huge role in a child s life who suffers from one. Even though it is accident free it can still lead to other types of accidents. In many cases nuclear power plants can be used as a weapon for many things involving nuclear. According to Ten Strikes Against Nuclear Power, Nuclear reactors represent a clear national security risk, and an attractive target for terrorists (source 2). Nuclear missiles, bombs, and other sorts of weapons can be used to destroy or target our country. Robert Kennedy had found out that there are at least eight relatively easy ways to cause a major meltdown at a nuclear power plant (source 2). Most nuclear power plants are used as a target and advantage for war on other countries, including ours. In addition to the reasons why nuclear power plants are harmful is the fact that they cost so much money to build. According to What is Nuclear? Nuclear reactors are generally large and complex, with lots of reinforced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Montessori Method Essay The Montessori Method (Word count includes Annotated Bibliography) The Montessori method began in the early 1900 s by the first female doctor in Italy, Dr. Mary Montessori, as a way of educating mentally disabled children. Her ideas were so successful with these children that she began to apply her understanding of learning to study the potential of normally functioning children (Oalf, 2001). Dr. Montessori s approach to education stresses the importance of learning styles, independence and responsibility. According to Maria Montessori, In the special environment prepared?in our schools, the children themselves found a sentence that expresses their inner need, Help me to help myself. ? (Standing, 1957). The ?prepared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In reality, the children move about the classroom independently, choosing the order of their learning activities. There may be 15 or more activities, or ?jobs? as they are called in some Montessori classrooms, occurring at the same time with small groups or individual work, yet the classroom remains quiet, yet busy and productive, sometimes with the soft hush of classical music playing in the background. Many Montessori school classrooms place a card around the child?s neck with the day?s objectives written in the form of a checklist for the students to monitor themselves. This checklist encourages the students to take responsibility for their own learning, as well as discourages prompt dependence, since the student need not wait for instruction. Some of the activities in a Montessori classroom include reading, pre reading using phonics, math, discovery science and writing. Children learn skills in a way that he or she is not aware that learning is taking place. For example, a child playing in the sand box with a small rake is not aware that he or she is learning fine motor skills and how to hold and control a pencil. Another observation in a Montessori classroom is that most classrooms tend to span three grade levels. This practice allows to children to become mentors to younger students. Also, the large gap in developmental levels allows children to ?learn at their own pace? (Keller, 2001), which is another important Montessori ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Cognitive Social Learning Theory Cognitive Social Learning Theory John Tabro May 3, 2012 Cognitive Social Learning Theory I have selected this theory primarily because I believe that a great majority of our learning during the course of our entire lives is achieved by observation. Bandura s social cognitive theory is a learning based on the ideas that people learn by watching what others do and that human thought processes are central to understanding personality. While social cognition experts agree that there is a fair amount of influence on development generated by learned behavior displayed in the environment in which one grows up, they believe that the individual person is just as important in determining moral development. People learn by observing others, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While watching and observing children play, you can discover their interests. You can see more than the children just having fun, but you may witness any strengths and/or weaknesses in personality, learning or interactive abilities. By observing children I was able to learn their developmental level, such as who the leader of the group was or what leaders were in competition to lead the play session. Thus observing the children interact I could learn a lot about their respective personalities. From my observation, the child that was obviously in charge of this group had either an older sibling, relative or perhaps was mimicking what he saw on television by directing and giving instruction to the other children who were playing with him. In the game of organized basketball there is one leader on the court for each team. That leader is normally the point guard position. The child may already possess the personality of being a leader, but he had to observe and learn the other details he exuded by watching what he had seen in live action or by television. I can personally relate to this theory the most because in retrospect I realize that a great deal of my behavioral learning was developed through observation. I wouldn t consider where I grew up as a child as being the ghetto , but the area was rough, and I believe it is safe to say that there was a survival of the fittest mentality. There was a certain assertive aggressiveness that I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
