Stockings , A Shameful Affair , and The Story of Hour by Kate Chopin from the novel The Awakening
and Selected Stories of Kate Chopin, they uncover the expected roles and responsibilities of women in
the early 1900s. Through imagery and diction, Chopin reveals that people tend to fall into others
expectations upon their marriage and even before it, which leads to lose their personal freedom and
gain desires in conflict with social expectations.
First, numerous people especially women in the early 1900s fall into others expectations upon and
before their marriage. In A Pair of Silk Stockings and A Shameful Affair , two of their main characters
are women, and they both fall into societal expectations about them where they later lose their

marriage where she describes the usual mother s responsibilities by saying A dollar or two should be

plans to do as a mother, who she carefully plan her money to buy new clothes for her children.
Moreover, the word insures means to arrange compensation for damage that is done to the event,
whereas the word appreciable means large enough to be noticed. Yet, both connotes a stable lasting
which further reveal that one of the mother s roles that is expected by the society is to know how use
the money wisely for their children without falling in debt. Thus, the responsibilities of a mother have
overloaded her where she later turn in self indulgent. Likewise, Chopin not only portrays how women
fall into others expectations upon their marriage yet they also fall into it before their marriage. In the

based indices response, with a view to its use as a tool to assess the pulmonary oxygenation in
critically ill patients. Furthermore, this thesis developed a new index to assess pulmonary
oxygenation. This topic was explored with external pulmonary factors to quantify oxygenation defect
through a maze of mathematics, different diseases, and pathophysiology. There was one or two ways
that could lead us to the answer and many dead end routes. Ultimately, the research produced an
equation that was more robust than the PaO2/FiO2 ratio in terms of less variation. The first chapter
described two different types of oxygen indices and its use. The second chapter described the medical
simulator in general and the Nottingham Physiology Simulator (NPS) in particular. In chapter three,
we examined the variation of certain oxygen indices with changes in the following external
physiological factors (FIO2, Hb, RQ, and VO2) without changing the pulmonary configuration status.
This investigation was done with ARDS simulated patients using a validated NPS model. The study

This excuse hinders outsiders knowing exactly what is happening inside the factory. People didn t
want to tell us about the factories whereabouts either, as they were scared of getting physically
assaulted by the security men surrounding the factory. At last we found a factory called June Textiles,
which manufactured products for both Nike and Gap, but no one would tell us more than that.
Checking treatment of workers here was going to be a huge task. The factory was well guarded and
looked like any ordinary factory from the outside, but at that time we didn t know what harsh realities
workers were facing inside the factory.
We needed to talk to the workers on home turf, away from the security men surrounding the factory.
Late at night we got a call from a couple of workers who said they were prepared to speak to us, if we
met them after their shift, at their home. For them to talk openly about the conditions in the factory
was a big step.
This was the one of our first big surprises, 8 women were living together in a tiny little room which on
a regularly basis had power cuts and was without running water. As we interviewed them they told us
that Nike and Gap treat them as dirt, they work 16 hours a day, which is 112 hours a week. This

A topic that is becoming more and more prevalent in today s society is the allowance of women into
direct combat roles in our armed forces. Forests densely covered with fog, barren deserts, bomb
cratered fields. Those are just a few of the many different types of scenarios encountered by troops in
direct combat roles on the modern day battlefield. The warrior in today s direct combat roles need to
be decisive, mentally and emotionally stable, very physically fit, and the ability to be able to take an
enemy combatant s life at any moment. Do any of these descriptions accurately match women in today
s military? To allow or disallow women into combat scenarios? Some argue that women s allowance
to fight in direct combat roles is the same as a man s allowance. Women can try to prove that they are

Recently, over the Winter, I brought my girlfriend to watch the Broadway Musical Aladdin. It was a
very spectacular Broadway musical. I have been to many Broadway plays like Matilda and Wicked,
but Aladdin, in my opinion was my favorite one. The Broadway musical is based off the 1992 Disney
film Aladdin, which was directed by John Musker and Ron Clements. Since the musical was produced
in 2014, I got to see the original cast, which was pretty astounding. The music and acting was very
well played by the actors during the play. Besides the singing in the musical, there was an orchestra
playing their instruments underneath the stage, so all you can see is the conductor telling the orchestra
what to do. The subject of the musical was to entertain the people watching and to tell the story of the
Disney movie in a musical way. The purpose of the musical is to show how Princess Jasmine is being
forced who to marry by her father and she wants to be the person who decides that. In the play, three
characters were added which were not in the original movie, Aladdin s friends. Their names are
Babkak, Omar, and Kassim. I found it to be creative that the play creators added them. They called
themselves Four guys with one Arabian dream. Also in the movie, the villain, Jafar has an evil
sidekick which is a parrot, but in the play, Jafar s sidekick is a human. Another change was in the

As with American boys, a German boy during the 1930 s, also had hopes and dreams of an optimistic
future. It were these dreams which provided them courage and loyalty too. However, their optimism
did not come from within their own imaginations. The Nazi government provided those hopes and
dreams through forced indoctrination.
In the 1930 s, membership of teenage boys in the Hitler Youth (Hitler Jugend or HJ) was highly
encouraged. The German government promised parents that after graduation, there would be a bright
future for their children. Also, while a member of the HJ, the children would have free room and
board, would be well cared for and provided an education. During the hard economic times in
Germany, this was a strong incentive and motivated parents to put their children in the HJ. However,
after Germany attacked Poland in 1939, Hitler declared that membership in the HJ would be
mandatory.
The HJ was a logical extension of Hitler s belief that the future of Nazi Germany was its children. As a
result, the HJ was equally as important to a child as school. Hitler had made it clear that he expected
German children to be as swift as a greyhound, as tough as leather, and as hard as Krupp s steel. The
indoctrination emphasized blind loyalty to the fatherland Germany and to Hitler himself.
In 1933, Hitler, while addressing Nazi loyalists, stated his goals for establishing the HJ where he said:

1. Fresno is a city located in central California, also known as San Joaquin Valley Famously knows for
its grape field and green trees. Known for where the immigrants came to work, by picking grapes
making little to know money. Every year I go back to visit my home town about twice a year, each
time we get near the grape vine which is located between Fresno and Las Angeles. The first thing that
is noticed by the eye is the magnificent greenery and farm lands that can t be passed without notice of
its beauty. Every tree was full and rich looking to the roots and all around the ground would look
moist and fully watered, without a doubt these farm lands where being taken care of. Recently in the
past three years of taking the long exhausting drive from the dry lands of Tucson to the green lands of
Fresno hasn t been the same. The green lands of central valley are not as green as they once were. The
grounds look dry and not as moist as before.
