Delta Airlines Hedging Essay
ome airlines have decided that, with oil prices weak, the potential benefits from hedging may no
longer justify the risks.
Airlines aren t the only companies that hedge their required fuel. But airlines sensitivity to fuel
costs can be more obvious to consumers, who often feel it in the form of higher ticket prices and
international fuel surcharges when oil prices rise.
American swore off hedging after merging with US AirwaysGroup. Most of its postmerger
executives hail from US Airways, which abandoned the futures markets in 2008. Deep discounter
Allegiant Air stopped hedging in 2007. Canada s low fare WestJet Airlines Ltd. gave it up a few
years ago.
Delta airline to control some of its supply invested in buying its own refinery in 2012, but recently
closed its hedge book. While Delta said it remains committed to hedging, it hasn t had a gain from
the practice since the second quarter of 2014.

dollars to buy fuel but collect most of their revenue in other, and recent weaker, currencies. In
Europe, after huge hedge losses last year, some of the largest carriers are hedging less of their
future consumption.
While a geopolitical crisis could quickly push up oil prices again, experts said airlines with good
credit could easily jump back into the futures market, although it would be costly.
Southwest Airlines Co. s successful hedge strategy in the 2000s culminated in a $1.3 billion
hedge gain in 2008 (Carter, Rogers, and Simkins, no date). Over the next few years, however,
Southwest routinely lost money on its hedges. It estimated in January 2016 that its 2016 hedge
book for 20% of its consumption was $1 billion underwater, meaning the airline will pay 50 cents
to 60 cents more per gallon for jet fuel than some rivals.
Even so, Chris Monroe, vice president and treasurer, estimates that hedging shaved $2 billion off
Southwest s fuel bill between 2001 and

Mccloskey Cosmological Argument
To say that something is a proof one must understand that this something must have been tested
and with sufficient evidence, in order to produce a belief in its truth. An argument on the other
hand is not so. An argument can be a discussion involving differing points of view. Moreover,
mainly an argument is a person s attempt to persuade or present evidence from their point of view.
Nevertheless, McCloskey makes claims from arguments as though they are proofs. He then gives
reasons as to why these arguments are not adequate enough to be presented as proofs. But
McCloskey has somehow in his mind attempted to present arguments as proofs in order to validate
his personal argument and push his claims as opposition to the Cosmological and Teleological
arguments. But these arguments were not meant to be used as proofs of Gods existencebut to
merely shed insight and to persuade or something one may consider as a basis for their belief.
McCloskey does not allow himself to be persuaded because he is considering these arguments as
proofs which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First and foremost, the cosmological argument does not necessarily make an argument for God s
existence. This particular argument leads us to a first cause. It is simply saying that everything
that exists needs a cause. According to Manis and Evans, God is not a contingent being. Atheists
argue that everything has a cause or an origin but if God had an Origin then he wouldn t be God.
The cosmological argument is not an end all prove all to the existence of God it is merely an
argument that pushes us to go deeper and to study God and the origin of the universe more
intensively. McCloskey attempts to dismiss this argument altogether but for the previous reasons
mentioned he is misguided when he states that the cosmological argument does not entitle us to
postulate and all powerful, all perfect, uncaused

Sexism In The Barbie
Barbie Barbie is portraying the image on young girls to have the desire to look and be like her.
When girls at such a young age begin to play with Barbie they are seeing how perfect she looks.
Barbie s disproportional figure leads children and even teens to want her beautiful look that they
have admired for so many years. In 1965 the slumber party package was on the market showing
buyers how straight forward she is with her products and accessories. The package had all of the
normal slumber party things like a robe, comb, and hair rollers but it also had a weight scale set at
a permanent weight of 110 and a disturbing book on weight loss that read in all caps, DON T EAT.
This package is an example of how misleading Barbie and her... Show more content on

The GI Joe doll portrays the image of a man in the military. He dresses in camouflage and carries
around guns. Wagner Ott describes the GI Joe doll as a ...butch version of Barbie with the same
realism and detail, but applied to the toy soldier concept (249). Considering Barbie s beautiful
looks and countless perfect accessories, the GI Joe doll can relate to her. He has defined
muscles, a smooth tan, and all of his accessories fit him perfectly. These two dolls display sexist
attitudes in many ways. Barbie only moves in five different places, her neck, shoulders, and top
of her legs, whereas, GI Joe can move in twenty one different places. This shows that the male
doll can be more active and mobile but the female doll is restricted to a perfect posture and
cannot do much outside. Because dolls and action figures are emotionally close to children s lives,
they can become the source for discovering and analyzing how popular everyday objects help
construct students sense of identity, politics and culture (Wagner Ott, 252). Children are beginning
to see these dolls like Barbie and GI Joe and want everything they have and grow up to look

Personalised Learning Research
The aim of this assignment is to identify the different theories of Personalised Learning for a
specific student with Special Educational Needs or a disability. Through attempting different
practices that have been assigned by the SENCo at my chosen Educational Establishment,
alongside my own theories that I will be using, I aim to analyse the impact of these practices
which will enable me to evaluate the ambiguities and limitations to my research. I hope to use the
findings from this thesis to further develop my strategies for working with students with different
SEN needs, and to be able to alter them depending on the specific needs of a variety of pupils.

Issues In Rwanda Genocide
The absence within the literature of the central pillars and their composed themes creates problems
when trying to address current and future contention between the international community and
Rwanda. By relying largely on the genocide guilt card, issues important to Rwanda are sometimes
either overlooked or plainly forgotten. The result is miscommunication and misunderstandings that
complicate a delicate situation. For example is the previously mentioned debate on term limits for
President Kagame. Despite the thesis not discussing the third term debate except for the mention in
Chapter Two, it is an important event that will help continue the trend of how Rwandaviews the
actions and decisions by international actors.
The debate on whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The issue of abandonment will be brought to the forefront but not in terms of the genocide guilt
card. Rwandan officials will believe that the same states that abandoned Rwanda before and during
the genocide have little ability to criticise the continuation of the only person who did not leave the
country during its darkest periods. President Kagame as leader of the RPF led the campaign to put
an end to the massacres in response to international abandonment of the genocide. This might be
easily misinterpreted as Rwanda promoting genocide guilt to deflect criticism of electing Kagame
for more terms than the current Constitution allows. But at the heart of the issue is the distrust of
the international community. They rather listen to and trust Kagame who did not abandon the
country rather than the countries that did. How he ended the genocide and led the nation into
wars with the DRC is met with the other two themes. Unlike the international community, which
seems to disappoint Rwanda by not properly combating the FDLR , Kagame is credited for
promoting the security of Rwandans by fighting the FDLR and other extremist groups bent on
harming Rwanda. These military campaigns are all through a central belief that Rwanda needs to
be self reliant for its own protection and development. Since the 2012 M23 allegations and aid
withdrawal by donors, Rwandans are increasingly accepting President Kagame s call for self
reliance. As discussed in Chapter Six, his rhetoric campaigns against foreign aid, Kagame continues
to instruct Rwandans to trust that economic development has to come from within Rwanda rather
than continual acceptance of foreign aid. Ronal Nkusi commented how the reduction of aid went
beyond just the realm of rhetoric to include it as a belief to be held by all government officials.

Lather And Nothing Else Symbolism
Lather and Nothing Else, a story that takes place in South America around the time of the early
1900 s. The atmosphere that revolves around the story consists of suspense, worry, and tension;
keeping the reader intrigued. By using first person point of view, the reader doesn t know the
thoughts of the enemy (Torres). Yet the author s use of symbolism, irony, and first person point
of view is very effective. It allows the reader to establish a deeper emotional connection to the
scenario being put forth in front of them and increasing the level of tension throughout the story.
The perspective of Lather and Nothing Else is in first person. The author s decision to write the
piece in this perspective is very effective because it has the ability to show the in depth emotions,
thoughts, and personality of the town barber. The reader can view the character in all directions,
gaining empathy and sympathy for him. Also, it gives the reader great insight into the conflict of
the story (the dilemma inside of the barber s head) and let us see all the things the barber must
consider in order to make his decision of remaining a barber, or becoming a murderer.... Show more

The most apparent example would be the razor the town barber possesses. The razor could have
been the difference between life and death in terms of Torres life. The barber could have

of the razor or the gleam in my eye. Also, the razor represents choices and freedoms. Torres is a
murderer, executioner, terrorist, and the barber is curious as to if he could end the torture and pain
he is putting his town through. The razor symbolizes the thin line between hero or murderer and

The Importance Of A New Idea For Furniture Pieces By...
It was the 1917 a period after the World Wat I when the De Stijl art movement in Netherlands

things starts to get the forms of the machine like. It was also the period of the Cubism which was
influencing al the new designs. Thanks to being neutral during the World War I, Netherlands artist

Some of other most important component of the group we can find Piet Mondrian which was a
painter; Cornelis Van Eesteren which was an architect; and of course one of the main exponent
of the De Stijl architecture Gerrit Rietveld which was an architect. The De Stijl art movement
had just one goal: to make art that was as simple as possible. They wanted to purify art to
precision and perfection. Two important elements were composition and balance in their work,
making the De Stijl art movement influential in the next few decades of modern design and
modern architecture such as we can see in Le Corbusier or Mies Van De Rohe or in the
International Style. The De Stijl movement was theorized on the fundamental principles of the
simple geometry (such as straight lines, squares, and rectangles) with asymmetrical arrangements
as well as the use of true primary colors in tandem (such as blue, yellow, red, white and black).
Also the association between positive and negative. The goal of the movement in design was to
make simple things such as furniture and buildings a piece of art itself. It was a an abstract
movement with the idea of the form following function and the emphasis on the structural
components. Van Doesburg described the style by saying, The new architecture is anti cubic, i.e., it

Endangered Animals Are Endangered
Tigers are primarily killed to supply underground black markets with its organs, pelts, and bones.
These items are highly regarded in eastern medicine (although these treatments have been disproven
and have no real medical value). Innocent endangered animals are being killed for false hopes and
cures within the eastern culture. Poachinghas traditionally been defined as the illegal hunting,
killing or capturing of wild animals. The difference between poaching and hunting is one, is that
poaching is hunting without the approval of whomever controls or owns the land. Even though
some people believe poaching creates lots of business and brings in major income for certain
smaller, poorer countries, it endangers our species because it reduces the population of rare or
endangered animals, destroys precious ecosystems within the wild, and poaching is extremely
harmful to humans.
Poaching endangers our species because it reduces the population of rare or endangered animals.
In the article Poaching Blamed for Loss of Western Black Rhino , by Frank Jordans states Its loss
is significant because the Western Black Rhino is genetically distinct from other rhino subspecies.
Reintroducing animals born into captivity is costly and may be impossible, experts say. According
to the article, once a species or subspecies goes into extinction within its wild habitat it s near
impossible to recover them back. Introducing the captive species into the area would just cause

Mediation Dispute Resolution
Mediation was created to help parties compromise when they have a conflict or dispute. It was
designed so that the parties involved are able to settle there legal issues without having to go to
court. Mediation is most effective when the problem is small and between two parties, it is
growing in fields such as family law, and is a popular form of resolution between landlords and
tenants. Mediationis an effective form of dispute resolutionfor three reasons, the courts are
sometimes too busy with cases and this will eliminate that process, there are no overwhelming
lawyer fees, and it supports a mutual satisfaction between the two parties.
First, courts are constantly backed up with many different kinds of cases that have no time
frame of how long they could take, some people can not afford to wait and want their problems
to be solved as quickly as possible but want the end result to be fair. Mediation solves this
conflict of interest by giving you a way to solve your problems as soon as possible. With the
option of mediation in the court system, the process people would have had to go ... Show more

With mediation, both sides are heard equally and fairly. These stories are heard more than once
and a solution is determined that is agreed by both parties so that each party leaves happy with
the outcome. A common goal is key and helps both sides figure out what the right thing is. The
mediator will continue to state ideas and will make decisions based on there reaction and
responses. Mediation helps solve problems that have accumulated between both parties and in
result will help mend the relationship that was once broken, rather than in court where a winner
and loser is decided and one person is not satisfied, this can lead to even more disputes in the future.
Mediation encourages a mutual agreement so more disputes do not

Long Duration Human Space Flight Missions
Introduction: Long duration human space flight missions are next big thing in space that have
capture our imagination for years. Highly sustainable habitats are necessary to support long
duration human space flight missions as it impractical to re supply logistics (Shaw and Weck,
2014). At the time when national space policies have given top priority to human space flight
missions, study of closed loop habitats are essential. Thus, it is essential to review development in
this area and discuss various issues related to political, technical, engineering, economic aspects of
closed loop life support systems. Politics and Engineering: A closed loop life support system is

Most of the life support systems for isolated environment use physiological process. The use of bio
regenerative process is relatively new. Bio regenerative process currently in use in terrestrial
confined environment include controlled plant growth chamber in Antarctica and biosphere 2.
Plant growth has been tested in ISS but only for scientific study and not as a part of life support
system. For the future manned space mission, hybrid life support systems in which biological
components are used at the same time with physiochemical technology in a balanced mechanism
for controlling life support parameters. Hybrid life support systems are envisioned for sustainable
long term space habitats but there are concerns about the reliability of bio regenerative process
incorporated to the physiochemical systems. The optimal combination of physiochemical and bio
generative life support systems needs tradeoff among different factors. Numerous bio regenerative
technology should be tested and performance should be evaluated to characterize it. A common
study could be about food subsystem and computation of equivalent system mass. NASA have

Concert Review Papers
A Glimpse of snow and evergreen was a concert I will never forget. In my opinion, this concert
was the most high energy and energetic concert we have had (since my time here). The songs
were all surrounded by the theme of holiday spirit and it gave a warm and friendly tone that I
believe the audience felt too. We had a variety of songs, in cooperated dancing, and were able to
have almost a full house. This will be the concertwe remember for the fun times and best
choreography. It took a lot of preparation to put this concert together. Acapella alone had 10 songs
we were participating in. And, many of the songs in this concert were in a different language. I

Somehow, no matter what we are facing we always seem to pull it together during the concert. I
loved the 2 soloists in 1 2 and how much courage they had to give it their all even though it was
their first time being in choir. Choir 3 4 always amazes me with their rich sound. They sound so
sophisticated and mature. It was also interesting to hear them perform another rendition of a song
we had sang last year. Also, the middle schoolers did wonderful with their carol of the bells. In
terms of our set list, I would say Gborn was our best piece. I heard the most feedback from the
audience about how that song was beautiful, angelic, and just rich overall. I think we could have
worked on dynamics at times but it is definitely a song that should be taken to tour. My personal
favorite was Merry Christmas Mozart because it showed the fun side of us and gave the
audience some perspective. Plus, as I looked around during that song I saw nothing but smiles.
The most touching part of the performance was when the alumni came on stage and sang Carol of
the Bells with us. It brought back memories of them being with us. It also signified how much of a
family we are even after we go to

Joker Antisocial Personality Disorder
Through these symptoms described, the Joker appears to have an Antisocial Personality Disorder
along with schizophrenia. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual states that the criteria for APD
are exhibiting at least 3 of the following traits: an inability to follow the social normality s, when
it comes to the law especially if said acts lean toward reasons for arrest. When being deceitful i.e.;
lying, conning others, using a name rather than your own. Another trait is to be impulsive (Tang,
Jiang, Liao, Wang, Luo, 2013). The Jokertends to be impulsive when he does large scale jobs. For
example, in The Dark Knight he blew up the hospital without any sort of real escape plan, he

The Joker has no care whether or not he committed a crime, in fact that s his literal motif. He only
cares about what he does, not who or what it affects. APD is diagnosed to those who contravene the
rights of others without feeling bad or guilty. (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Those with
Antisocial Personality Disorder are likely to be persistent criminals and take part in actions which
would be grounds for criminal arrest and hurt others in ways that are often considered unethical
as well as in violation of societies normalcy s. Those with APD are often considered to be
antisocial. The term antisocial is often confused to mean not with society as dictated by slang.
Most of the public confuses the term antisocial by pairing it with the meaning to be alone with
one s self and away from others. The actual, correct usage of the word antisocial is to be literally
against society; against the everyday rules that most people follow in order to be part of a society.
While the intelligence of antisocial people is obviously well appropriated, they tend to have the
ability to quickly analyze others and in doing so can realize what they desire and use that
knowledge to manipulate said person.

Non Human Primate Culture
This research paper will discuss the ways in which non human primates use different sound and
gestures to convey different feeling and emotions toward one another like humans. A primate is a
mammal of an order that includes the Lemurs, Bushbabies, Tarsiers, Marmosets, Monkeys, Apes,

humans have feelings of joy, sadness, fear, anger, trust, and so much more, but have we ever

us. These next couple paragraphs will explain and discuss what emotions are felt and how emotions
are conveyed in the nonhuman primate culture. Primates have always been viewed as a species that

The Case Of The Securities And Exchange Commission Essay
Senators Tammy Baldwin (D WI) and Jeff Merkley (D OR) introduced Bill S.2720 on March 17,
2016, which if enacted and implemented into law would be called the Brokaw Act. Currently, the
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requires beneficial owners to file for ownership and
disclose their ownership interests if he/she owns more than 5% of a registered class of security
equity within 10 days. However, the Brokaw Act would reduce this disclosure period from 10 to 2
business days and require short interests disclosures pertaining to the security. Further, the Act
would amend the SEC s current definition of beneficial ownershipfrom just ownership over
securitieswith voting rights to an individual who has monetary or indirect monetary interest in the
equity. The Act also broadens the definition of security ownership from an individual owner to
include individuals acting as managers of transactions of the security, who have influence over
management and who assist the individual beneficial owner . Finally, the proposed act has received
strong opposition from Activist Investors while Issuers, Shareholders, Pro Business Conservatives
and Corporate Board Members equally propose it.

Two Point Threshold Lab Report
In this experiment, the two point threshold, or smallest separation of two points of stimulation on
the skin that are perceived as two separate impressions of touch, was measured using the method of
limits. The purpose of this experiment was to determine the participant s two point threshold on
their finger, forearm, palm, and back. The identification of the stimulus is due to a variety of
somatosensation mechanoreceptors, meaning they sensetouch in response to a mechanical
stimulation or pressure, which are located all over the body. When pressure is placed upon the
epidermis (outermost layer of skin), different receptors respond to that pressure which is felt
through vibrations. There are four types of mechanoreceptors: Merkel complexes... Show more

The ascending trials for each body part, with the exception of the second trial of the forearm, did
not vary far from the mean threshold. When the second trial of forearm stimulation was given to
the participant, there was a point in time (near the middle of administration) in which the
experimenter accidentally placed the dial caliber tips onto the participant s skin at two separate
times. This caused the participant to report feeling the stimulus as separate earlier than she did in
the first and third forearm trials. Because of this error, the mean two point threshold of the
forearm was not as reliable as it could have been had there been no error in the deliverance of
stimuli. The purpose of this lab was, in fact, achieved and the participant s two point threshold
means were calculated. The errors of this experiment could have been avoided by utilizing
computer/mechanical stimulation as opposed to a dial caliper. Using a machine to administer the
touch would ensure that the pressures as well as the timing and placement of each tip on the caliber
were exactly the same. It is also important to note that the temperature of the dial caliber could have
had an effect of the collection of data. At various points throughout the experiment, the participant
jumped at the chilling temperature of the metal caliber. With each startle of the participant, the
experimenter had to remove and then re place the stimulus onto the participant s skin to attempt an
accurate reading. In future experiments, it is important to standardize the pressure and placement
of the stimuli to record a more accurate data set. It may also be helpful to eliminate the variable of
temperature of the caliber to the best of one s ability. As a continuation of this study, it may strike
the experimenter as intriguing to add a variable such as

which the characters are responsible for enabling their imagination to dominate their perception of
reality. This then brings severe consequences that shape the rest of their stories throughout the

that is used in the books in the portrayal of emotions, or lack of, which also showed the tension

Walk investigates deep into a spectator s mindset in regards to how they may want to behave in
a movie theatre if that particular individual is similar to him who wants their media experience
plugged in (Walk) during this kind of entertainment. He also creates a discussion around the
visual appeal of putting more lighting and electricity outlet inside the movie theatre, as well as
mentioning about certain behaviours discouraged in such a public area that should instead be
acceptable. Overall, Walk s desire to reformat the traditional expectations when watching a movie
by involving the use of electronic devices, redecorating the place of theatre itself and allowing
behaviours contradictory to people s beliefs during an airing movie will ultimately improve the
system of theatre to gain more attendees for the shows. A few ideas he presents are for audiences

agents get paid according to their ranking. For example, a newly assigned field agent earns about
$43,441 a year, whereas a senior agent with many years of experience may earn close to

working, the agents acquire benefits from the agency. Federal employees, retirees and survivors
have the Federal Employee Health Benefit (FEHB) that offers them a wide variety of health
plans they can choose from. They also have the Federal Employees Group Life Insurance

the basic life insurance, including regardless of their age, but if an agent wants a higher
coverage, then they must be willing to pay more. The FBI also includes the Federal Employees

Comparing Beowulf And The Odyssey
The word epic comes from the Ancient Greek adjective, epikos , which means a poetic story. In
literature, an epic is a long narrative poem, which is usually related to heroic deeds of a person of
an unusual courage and unparalleled bravery. The hero is usually the representative of the values
of a certain culture, race, nation, or a certain religion on whose victory or success will affect the
destiny of the whole nation or group. Therefore, certain supernatural forces help the herowho comes
out victor at the end. An epic usually starts with an invocation to muse, but then picks up the
threads of the story from the middle and moves on to the end (Literary Devices). Both Beowulf
and The Odyssey are prime examples of an epic.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beowulf is more of a Christian worldview if anything, but does also have pagan views in some
aspects. For example, the story makes many references to God as well as saying that Beowulf is
God s answer to their prayers as oppose to Satan, whom the people also prayed to out of
desperation. But, Beowulf is said to have the strength of 30 men, which is obviously
superhuman and leans away from Christian belief (Beowulf 300). Beowulf, is a reflection of
many Anglo Saxon ideals and concepts. This work was written after the Anglo Saxons were
already Christianized, yet the pagan traditions that had dominated their lives were still present in
their minds. Overall, Beowulf contains many pagan themes and concepts, but yet it also contains
many clear references to Christianity. It is an Anglo Saxon work with a peculiar spiritual
atmosphere. However, although the means through which men gained fame may seem to
conflict with certain elements of Christianity, the author reconciles this fame with many
references to God. Although strength and heroism may not necessarily be Christian concepts or
virtues, the author attributes both of these to God through the speech of his characters. This ties
Beowulf s prowess and fame back to God, and mixes in a pagan concept to Christianity.
However, Beowulf is essentially a Germanic warrior whose actions, despite their Christian
glossing, are not of a truly self sacrificing character. But, that isn t necessarily a bad flaw. He is
concerned with the courage and honour that the heroic code demands of him; the reason for his
voyage to Denmark is not primarily to avenge and protect Hrothgar and his people, but to extend
his and his lord s glory. Moreover, Beowulf s death does not deliver his people or ensure their
safety (The Amalgamation). In effect, Beowulf has some religious accuracy but only to a certain
degree. And sense it is also unclear

Pphl 25 Reflection
I am currently taking up PHIL 25, Philosophy of the Human Person, and it helped me interpret
complex things discussed in the 26 chapter text. The text as well helped me refreshed what were
already discussed on our PHIL 25 course and also aids in attaining a deeper understanding on
Philosophy. In the first chapters of the text, I already know that there is a big difference between
knowledgeand wisdom; wherein not all knowledgeable are wise. And what the text provided me
was a better comprehension on the difference between the two, knowledge and wisdom.
I, myself, do not know what wisdom is. According to the dictionary, wisdom is the quality of
having experience, knowledge, and good judgment; but what does wisdom really mean. In the
text, it was described as the knowledge of highest causes. It is about seeing the larger picture of
things. And mostly the wise persons are the older ones. I have learned that most older person are

The principle of identity states that each being is what it is, thus everything is determinate. Without
this principle we would not know anything at all and that what is something is the same as what it
is not. On the other hand, the principle of non contradiction states that something cannot be both
true and false at the same time in the same respect. Without this principle, for me, the world would
be in chaos. This is because, what would I want to mean could be the opposite of what would i
want to imply. The principle of the excluded middle states that a thing can only be is or is not, there
is no such thing as in between them. I have also grasp that becoming is being. This is for the reason
that becoming means changing into something. But before that change has come to happen, that
thing to undergo change is still the thing it is. I am quite confused

Cultural Connotation Behind The Rhetoric Of Escapism
In this book that tries to understand the cultural connotation behind the rhetoric of escapism and its
noun of the escapist, the author tries to correlate the word s significance with the growth and
evolution of human character as well as the connection of death itself. Her argument revolves
around the notion that there are various types of escapism and some of which include the
traditional and dynamic type. The traditional form of escapism focuses on the idea that a character
is trying to escape his current situation but comes to the realization that death is the only end goal
and thus begins questioning the different systems that transcend death. The dynamic form focuses
on the speculation that characters who seek death willingly are, in

Becoming A Better Writer
Before, when an essay is assigned, I usually begin by free writing. Free writing is a technique in
which a person writes continuously without worrying about spelling, grammar, or topic. Once I
have brainstormed, I put it all together and organize them in a clean way. After I have finished my
rough draft, I reread it multiple times, adding, changing, and deleting anything I believe can be
improved. Once I think I have done the best I can, I write my final.
Recently, my teacher has given me advice and helpful points on becoming a better writer. Writing is
not a task that can get better over night; writing is an art. We learn by mimicking the professionals,

SURESH K. VELUPULA
FRANKLIN UNIVERSITY
COMP 650 R1WW, FALL 2014 Abstract
Nowadays, more and more medical devices are increasingly being converted or replaced from
electro mechanical devices to software controlled networked devices. Software for these medical
devices would need to be kept to update to keep up with the security (worms and viruses) concerns
and governing regulations while not risking the health of the patient. In this paper the author
analyzes the viewpoints and presents a review of the paper: Inside Risks: Controlling for
Cybersecurity Risks of Medical Device Software (Fu and Blum, 2013). Fu and Blum (2013)
give their views on the cybersecurity risks associated with the medical devices. Some of their
key points are: a) medical devices depend on software for providing care and services. b)
Security risks could cause harm to the patient. c) Post market surveillance of the medical device
is required. d) Health data integrity and availability of patient care are crucial as compared to
hacking of medical devices. e) Provide incentives to user facilities to report security vulnerabilities
and security incidents. f) Manufacturers should consider cybersecurity during design phase of the
medical device. g) Match the underlying software life cycles with the lifecycle of the medical
device. h) Standards and regulations to protect cybersecurity would need to be created and enforced

The Interpretation Of Dreams By Sigmund Freud
Some dream big, some dream small, and sadly some dream not at all The Interpretation of
Dreams was published by Sigmund Freud in the year 1900 as a thought provoking compilation
of ideas surrounding the cognitive processes of dreaming. Although this book has been translated
and edited since its original publishing date, it reads as if to hold true to Freudian fashion;
addressing levels of consciousness and their effects on how specific dreams are formed. Freud
makes a clear and reverent effort to acknowledge other s theories to explain the unexplainable. His
focus throughout the text is to hypothesize on how regression, resistance, and censorship all play a
delicate role in the remembrance and interpretation of ones dreams. It is Freud s skillful application
of resistance and censorship that grants further contemplation of why dreams are so soon to fade
and be forgotten upon awakening. It is also this application that guides the reader into how these
two processes may require one to use free association to interpret such dreams. Resistance and
censorship are explained by Freud as a cognitive process that happens due to the separation of the
waking and sleeping mental states. He presents the idea that while one sleeps, the cognitive
censorship used throughout waking hours is significantly reduced, making dreams possible.
However, immediately present upon awakening is mental resistance, resulting in the forgetting or
fragmenting of dreams. These symptoms are

Population Control And Overpopulation
I m sure that you have some sort of idea of the world population. Our world is starting to over
populate? If Earth history is compared to a calendar year, human life has existed for 23 minutes
and we have used one third of Earth s resources in the last 0.2 seconds.
45 years ago, in 2017. Denmark research team estimated that by 2025, the world population would
be over 8 billion people, around 2040 it could hit 9 billion and by 2070 it could reach a massive
10 billion people. It said that 10 billion is the magic number the earth can handle without being too
crowded.
Today in 2067, the population is around 11 billion, our planet is facing overpopulation problem.
More people means more resources, competitions, chaos and decrease in security and safety, which
pose a real challenge in the years to come. This fact alone is sufficient to urge humans to try to find
solutions. Today, the majority of people argues that security and safety could improve by population
control.
Overpopulation acts as a new force that threatens and destroys peace. Population pressure has been
a source of human conflict over resources for thousands of years. More people means more
competition, such as for jobs, housings, wealth, education and so on. The movie Minority report
shows that overpopulation imposes a decrease in the security and safety of the public. One scene
from the movie shows what could possibly happen if there are too many people. In the scene, John
Anderton was with his son Sean

Essay On Family Law
The Impact of Departure From The EU Will Impact Family Law
While the country is still reeling from the EU referendum, we need to take a much closer look at
how departure from the EU will impact family law in England and Wales.
Family law is not a stranger in the sense of taking steps to move away from the EU which will
take quite a bit of unraveling from the EU legislation. The same can be said regarding many of
our other laws. Without a doubt, this will take quite some time and the process will probably drag
out for quite some time. Although the long term impacts of Brexit, or departure of the UK from
the EU, may not be fully felt for quite awhile, there are many consequences in regard to future
divorces from the EU.
Nigel Shepherd, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bear in mind, in the absence of this important EU legislation, this will lead to even more
uncertainty regarding who has the jurisdiction to hear the case. It has been iterated that the courts
will have to fill the vacuum with something that would be similar to Brussels II in order to address
the situation.
Adding to this, the Brussels IIa allows an order that was created in England to recognised and is
enforceable in other jurisdictions. Orders that are commonly affected by the EU legislation includes
child custody, other arrangements and matrimonial orders that need to be addressed by the new
legislation in order to stay enforceable across the borders.
Keeping agreements made between multinational couples in a divorce are governed by Brussels IIa
which allows for a more uncomplicated approach for enforcement across different jurisdictions. The
enforcement of these agreements will need to be addressed in light of any new legislation and will
have the greatest impact on matrimonial property and who owns what in different countries.
Other Arising Issues:
Although family law is not the leading victim of departure from the EU (or Brexit), there will still
be a great deal of uncertainty leading up to the formal Brexit while negotiations continue with the
EU and this could take a number of years.
In a time of great uncertainty for couples divorcing, there will be even greater anxieties and fears
that will arise. On a

The Walking Dead Essay In The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead Essay
Imagine waking up to the zombie apocalypse. How d you feel? Would you be scared, thrilled,
confused, shocked? A mixture of them all perhaps? What would you do? Would you hide? Would
you fight back? Would you even survive?
One might not have the answers to such questions ready at hand. Most people have probably
never thought about it. But if you stood in a situation, where your life was at risk and everyone
you loved dearly might die, how d you react and how d you feel?
In The Walking Dead, all the characters have gone through exactly this. They ve all experienced the
shock, loss, confusion, despair, hopelessness, etc. They can all relate to these feelings and thoughts,
which makes them all connected in some degree. In episode one of The Walking Dead, Rick
represents humanity how every surviving human felt at the beginning, their thoughts and feelings,
and what they needed to become to survive. Basically, he represents the overall character
development of every person in TWD:
At the beginning, Rick is very confused. He doesn t know what s going on, and is horrified when

zombies have a big symbolic meaning, cannot be determined from the first episode. Objects such

Andragogy By Malcolm Knowles
Andragogy is a term used by Malcolm Knowles to describe the process in which adults are prone

In the Psychosocial Rehabilitation world, individuals can participate as a student, in a classroom

We can safely state that no single theory of management is universally accepted today. To provide a
useful historical perspective that will guide our study of modern management, we shall discuss five
different approaches to management : (1) the universal process approach, (2) the operational
approach, (3) the behavioral approach, (4) the systems approach, and (5) the contingency approach.
Understanding these general approaches to the theory and practice of management can help you
appreciate how management has evolved, where it is today, and where it appears to be headed.
Each of the five approaches to management represents a different conceptual framework for better

The universal process approach is the oldest and one of the most popular approaches to
management thought. It is also known as the universalist or functional approach. According to the

His 14 universal principles of management, listed in Table 1.1, were intended to show managers
how to carry out their functional duties. Fayol s functions and principles have withstood the test of
time because of their widespread applicability. In spite of years of reformulation, rewording,
expansion, and revision, Fayol s original management functions still can be found in nearly all
management texts. In fact, after an extensive review of studies of managerial work, a pair of

Theme Of Indian Camp By Ernest Hemingway
Lions, Suicide, and War; Oh My! What do a lion, a suicide, and a war have in common?
Connected or not, these three factors can influence the character s behavior whether it be in or
out of a figurative sense. These three components are also very symbolic in Ernest Hemingway s
writing, more specifically in his short stories Indian Camp , The Short Happy Life of Francis
Macomber , as well as the interchapters from In Our Time. Ernest Hemingway s portrayal of
conflict creates a violent normality in some of his stories. This is shown by the character s response
to suicide, hunting, and war.
In Indian Camp , the character Nick is a child following his father and his uncle to an Indian camp,
with good intentions, to help a woman give birth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He could be referring to the wife s screaming during the birth, his pain from his accident, or some
other unmentioned reason. The doctor s initial reaction to the harsh news was to shield his son
from death and viewing something that could make him grow in a different direction, even
though neither were prepared for what they saw. The doctor made the body clearly visible to his
son with the light. The light could symbolize Nick s veil of innocence to be removed from his life
because he had just witnessed the birth of another human being, yet also the death of another. This
removal of his veil was very abrupt and no one intended for it to happen at that moment. The death
of the Indian husband came as a shock to the characters and even though it was unintended, it still
played a major part in the tone of the birth of the Indian baby.
Francis Macomber is a man of great wealth as well as a beautifully unfaithful wife, on a hunting
expedition in Africa. On this trip, he and his partner, Wilson, are on the hunt for many different
kinds of game, such as buffalo and lion. The lion in this story causes Francis to become panicked
and doubtful as he nears the time to shoot his cat, he does everything in his power to avoid
chasing after it. However, Francis does manage to overcome his fear after shooting it twice. During
his frenzy, the lion becomes the center of attention feeling, [T]he little openings the solid bullets

Essay on Protecting the Target
I ve assigned two officers to Dyanna Montarro s home. I have three other squad cars stationed
there for a time as well. Why not call in the National Guard too? I told you we should have taken
her back for further questioning. And you know what the boss is going to say. What can he
say? Banks saw Nailon pull out a cigarette. Chuck tended to grab them during times of duress. It
amazed her how someone as tough as Nailon felt he needed to smoke in stressful times. C mon,
he said in a sarcastic tone. You know the pencil necked pimp is going to complain, don t you? I

you. You know, we re partners. But I m not only concerned that you re wrong about Montarro,
but you re unnecessarily reckless. You owe your personal safety if not to your partner but to
your family. What about the victims, Chuck? Banks understood Nailon s point. Banks had a
family; a wonderful husband and her precious six year old daughter. She was already writing
letters to Santa Claus. And she just learned to dance with some rhythm to some Rock n Roll
songs. She was the light of Rosalie Banks life. But she admitted to herself that she had sworn an
oath as did Chuck. They deserve our best Chuck. It s why we re here. Nailon stepped away and
glared at two officers. He growled, What are you looking at? Get back to work. He stared back at
Banks. Their eyes met and instantly pulled away. After a minute, Banks spoke. We ve no
physical evidence of Julia or Warren s death. Nor do we know of their whereabouts. There s some
blood but no bodies. No bodies from anyone. If there was any, they ve all disappeared. Any ideas?

The Financial Crisis Of The Foreclosure Crisis
Introduction
During the real estate boom of the early 2000 s Wall Street began offering a product called
mortgage backed securities that were essentially multiple home loans bundled together. They then
started selling off pieces of those loans to investors who wanted exposure to the booming real
estate market in the form of a tradeable security. As the popularity of mortgage backed securities
increased the banks needed more product which were more mortgages. The pool of borrowers
with a good credit history diminished the lenders lowered their qualification standards to satisfy
the growing mortage demand. To entice more borrowers and speculators lenders began to offer
loans to people with bad credit and even no down payment. The term liar ... Show more content on

The crises showed just how interconnected the banking system is throughout the world. The
Lehman Brothers bank closure in 2008 created a major financial crisis around the world due to its
influence (The Economist, 2013). It took the government s massive bail outs to prevent total
collapse of the financial system and to some extent economic collapse of the country. This
government action set a precedent and to some sent a message that the reckless action by the
banks in the name of profit is fine because they now have a safety net. It is a good example of how
the collapse of a big financial institution that has national and global influence can affect several
interrelated firms to the detriment of the country s economic interests. This paper therefore,
examines the notion too big to fail in relation to banking.
The Concept Too Big to Fail Kaufman (2014) explains that the concept too big to fail is one that is
complex to warrant regulation to prevent it from failing. Due to its influence, the government must
intervene to prevent it from becoming insolvent. The special regulation to prevent failure includes
a requirement for higher capital, putting in place measures such as increased liquidity. Besides,
frequent supervision by regulatory bodies like the Basel Committee, the Federal Reserve, or the
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) are necessary to prevent the collapse of too big to

Summary Of The Skinny On Salt By Jeremy Likeness
Christopher. Hello, Perhaps the reason why salt is not discussed earlier in the chapter is that
humans require the nutrient of salt intake. Per author Jeremy Likeness in the article, the The skinny
on salt at bodybuiliding.com informs that body needs the nutrient of sodium and chloride that
cannot produce in the body. Furthermore, Likeness believes that it is not the sodiumamount that is
important rather the sodium in the diet is the ratio of sodium to potassium(Likeness). As sodium
potassium effects, fluid balance in the body. As a result, if there is too little sodium it will cause
the body to retain water. Unbeknownst to me, I did not realize how important it is to get the right
amount of sodium into my diet. Perhaps Bushman wanted all readers to gain a basic understanding
of physical activity and diet before... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Education is important to keep the body in top conditioning. A person could workout everyday,
but if they are not customizing their workout to their body s condition, then their outcome will
not be as favorable. Perhaps a high cholesterol awareness week that could offer several fitness
classes highlighting exercises that reduce cholesterol levels. Another method to get the message

powerful effects on lowering cholesterol. Thus, it is recommended that exercisers mix up their

Tamara Kamenszain s Poetry Of The Neobaroque
On a first commentary regarding her writing practice, Tamara Kamenszain stated that her approach
to literature was framed by the study of philosophy. She highlighted the influence that Lezama
Lima s work had on her writing, suggesting that he facilitated the bridge between literature and
philosophical reflection. However, in thinking of such reflection, it could perhaps be considered as
one that does not fully encapsulate the I because, as we have clearly seen, the poetryof the
Neobaroque as well as of the Baroque is marked by the absence of the subject. Kamenszain spoke
briefly of Roland Barthes and his contention that the writers of his generation suffered the
censorship of the subject. The author even shared a story of a work of hers that was rejected
because the referent was clearly distinguishable. Taking into consideration both Kamenszain s
poetry reading and her visit to our class, В¬I am interested in reflecting on the interplay between
this idea of the censorship of the subject and the term Neoborroso, proposed by the author herself.
At the poetry reading held a few weeks ago, Kamenszain stated that her introduction of the term
Neoborroso had a lot to do with an eagerness to eliminate dualisms. She also referred to Alejandra
Pizarnik s idea of escriborrotear to write and to erase all at the same time, a game of doing and
undoing simultaneously. Nonetheless, the idea of the borroso seems to be in conflict with la
claridad that doing autobiographical work requires.

a.Granting the adjustment will equally or better meet the purpose of the regulation to be adjusted;
Response: According to Findings of Fact, Fruitville Road was historically aligned with First Street
until the 1980 s. At the stated time, the State of Florida enacted a six lane widening which initiated
realignment of Fruitville causing it to converge with the former Third Street that was located west
of Lime Avenue. During this transition, the State of Florida initiated eminent domainaction, which
removed a triangular portion of the subject parcel on its north end, which left the remaining site at
an angle. The resulting lot configuration was left oddly shaped, which makes conventional
standards difficult to meet. In addition to the oddly shape lot, the City Arborist has identified large
oak trees that must be preserved. In complying with the minimum setback requirements, the trees
identified will have to be removed.

King Richard II Essay
Richard II was a king of England, but his failures attracted more interests from different parties.
Most of the other rulers renowned in the world have fame for being successful in their rule.
However, Richard II was known for his failures and inadequacies during his rule. Richard was
king when he was nine years but since there was no regency, his uncle, John of Gaunt, dominated
his control when he was young. However, during Richard II s rule, there was erupt of the French
war. The war was spreading at a high rate, and the effects were seen all over the nation. There
were poor royal finances, and they could not satisfy the needs of the armies during the war

A Brief Note On The United Kingdom ( Uk ) Essay
Overview of the Healthcare System in the United Kingdom (UK) With over 65 million
inhabitants, the United Kingdom (UK) is the 21st most populated country in the world, behind
China, India and the US as the top three ranked countries in terms of population (Worldometers,
2016). However, its healthcare system is ranked as 5th worldwide (GBD2015 SDG
Collaborators, 2016). The UK health system is financed primarily via general taxation. The
system is lauded for providing universal coverage of all people ordinarily resident, and generally
at no charge for the patient at the point of care (Mossialos, 2016). The breadth of covered services
derives from the 2006 Health Act that put forth the Secretary of State s duty to promote a
comprehensive health service to secure improvement in the physical and mental health of the
people of England, and the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness (Legislation.gov.uk,
2006). On an annual basis, the Secretary of State sets health and efficiency goals for NHS
England, the organization tasked with plan and budget management (Mossialos, 2016). Quality of
care concerns are overseen by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which requires all healthcare
providers to be registered, so their performance can be assessed against national quality standards.
These national quality standards are developed by the National Institute for Health and Clinical
Excellence (NICE), and include measures such as maximum wait times for key

Lewis Mcgrath s Shannon And Apuleius The Golden Ass
A common theme found in both, Campbell McGrath s Shannon and Apuleius The Golden Ass, is
facing the consequences for venturing into the unknown. George Shannon and Lucius come face to
face with unique obstacles, for instance George s narrative long struggle to acquire any form of
comestible sustenance or Lucius being faced with the seemingly immoral task to murder a woman
by having sexual intercourse with her when he is in donkey form, that they must overcome. They
used their pride and determination, allowing them to trek onward in their paths. The men s
situations differ in the way that George is traveling into the uncharted area of the United States with
the Corps of Discovery and Lucius has an absurd fetish for the unusual and unknown. Both men
experience pitfalls to each of their own degrees, however, pass with time as the stories go on. The
men of both narratives experience crises, conjure up coping mechanisms to allow them to adapt
briefly with their situations, and experience success and failures with their methods.
George Shannon s venture into the unknown with these more experienced men proves to be quite
the challenge when he separates from the group. These men were more experienced in a way
that they were seasoned army veterans with great survival knowledge and tactics. George was on
his own for fifteen days in attempt to impress his fellow explorers, without food, a way to hunt, or
any sense of direction of where he is going to get back to the group. In the

Ancient Hawaii Culture
Warm sand, blue waves, and the tropical sun this is what Hawaii is all about. But the beaches and
the dramatic landscape is not all Hawaii has to offer. Hawaii is rich with the culture of its past:
fighting, sporting, and celebrating was a big part of ancient Hawaiian culture.
The Hawaiian Islands may look like they went undisturbed till their discovery in 1778. But
unfortunately, that is not completely true. Hawaii has had its share of invaders and war. (Fitzpatrick)
Geographically Hawaii was cut off from foreign influence, but as with every ancient civilization:
war was inevitable. Warfare amongst the tribal chieftains of the Hawaiian Islands was common,
with fierce battles typically fought to establish political boundaries and during successional
disputes. (Mythical Hawaii) Tribal chieftains and their warriors all ... Show more content on

Differences Between New England Settlers And Chesapeake...
When the English settled into the New World, they were split up into two sections, the Chesapeake
region and the New England region. Although the English settled both, the two regions were
severely different from each other when they were brought about. The New England and
Chesapeake colonies differed in three ways: their reason for venturing over, economy, and
population. These major differences were what shaped our nation today and what will continue
shaping our nation in the future. When the Mayflower sailed over to the New World, on the boats
were Puritans that were looking for a change in the way that their religion was practiced where the
Chesapeake settlers came over for gold. Alongside the Puritans were the Separatists who... Show

The gold was never found and the passage through America was given up in hopes of staying
alive. Because the Chesapeake settlers were too interested in gold, they did not settle down and
get ready for the harsh winters to come; leaving them unprotected to the fierce winter. The New
England settlers were settles and ready, but they did loose a few men to the bitter cold, however
not as many as the Chesapeake settlers did. The economy of the two regions also greatly
differed because of the terrain that they landed on. Because the land in the south was much more
fertile than in the north, the southern colonies thrived in rice and tobacco, profiting greatly. In
New England the settlers could not grow anything in the rocky terrain and were forced into
fishing, building, and farming. However, not much farming went on because of the infertile soil.
In the Chesapeake slaves were also a main part of their economy. The slave trade made them
very wealthy because of their closeness to the West Indies. They would be shipped many slaves
and then use them to harvest their crops and plant their land. Soon, the slaves outnumbered white
settlers by about four to one. When the English sailed over to the New World, there were only a
handful of them, that is, until slavery was introduced. While New England was almost all white
English settlers Chesapeake was made up of mostly African American slaves. In New England, the
need for slaves was not very high because of the

  • 2. Delta Airlines Hedging Essay ome airlines have decided that, with oil prices weak, the potential benefits from hedging may no longer justify the risks. Airlines aren t the only companies that hedge their required fuel. But airlines sensitivity to fuel costs can be more obvious to consumers, who often feel it in the form of higher ticket prices and international fuel surcharges when oil prices rise. American swore off hedging after merging with US AirwaysGroup. Most of its postmerger executives hail from US Airways, which abandoned the futures markets in 2008. Deep discounter Allegiant Air stopped hedging in 2007. Canada s low fare WestJet Airlines Ltd. gave it up a few years ago. Delta airline to control some of its supply invested in buying its own refinery in 2012, but recently closed its hedge book. While Delta said it remains committed to hedging, it hasn t had a gain from the practice since the second quarter of 2014. United ... In Europe, after huge hedge losses last year, some of the largest carriers are hedging less of their future consumption. While a geopolitical crisis could quickly push up oil prices again, experts said airlines with good credit could easily jump back into the futures market, although it would be costly. Southwest Airlines Co. s successful hedge strategy in the 2000s culminated in a $1.3 billion hedge gain in 2008 (Carter, Rogers, and Simkins, no date). Over the next few years, however, Southwest routinely lost money on its hedges. It estimated in January 2016 that its 2016 hedge book for 20% of its consumption was $1 billion underwater, meaning the airline will pay 50 cents to 60 cents more per gallon for jet fuel than some rivals. Even so, Chris Monroe, vice president and treasurer, estimates that hedging shaved $2 billion off Southwest s fuel bill between 2001 and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Mccloskey Cosmological Argument To say that something is a proof one must understand that this something must have been tested and with sufficient evidence, in order to produce a belief in its truth. An argument on the other hand is not so. An argument can be a discussion involving differing points of view. Moreover, mainly an argument is a person s attempt to persuade or present evidence from their point of view. Nevertheless, McCloskey makes claims from arguments as though they are proofs. He then gives reasons as to why these arguments are not adequate enough to be presented as proofs. But McCloskey has somehow in his mind attempted to present arguments as proofs in order to validate his personal argument and push his claims as opposition to the Cosmological and Teleological arguments. But these arguments were not meant to be used as proofs of Gods existencebut to merely shed insight and to persuade or something one may consider as a basis for their belief. McCloskey does not allow himself to be persuaded because he is considering these arguments as proofs which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First and foremost, the cosmological argument does not necessarily make an argument for God s existence. This particular argument leads us to a first cause. It is simply saying that everything that exists needs a cause. According to Manis and Evans, God is not a contingent being. Atheists argue that everything has a cause or an origin but if God had an Origin then he wouldn t be God. The cosmological argument is not an end all prove all to the existence of God it is merely an argument that pushes us to go deeper and to study God and the origin of the universe more intensively. McCloskey attempts to dismiss this argument altogether but for the previous reasons mentioned he is misguided when he states that the cosmological argument does not entitle us to postulate and all powerful, all perfect, uncaused ... • 4. Sexism In The Barbie Barbie Barbie is portraying the image on young girls to have the desire to look and be like her. When girls at such a young age begin to play with Barbie they are seeing how perfect she looks. Barbie s disproportional figure leads children and even teens to want her beautiful look that they have admired for so many years. In 1965 the slumber party package was on the market showing buyers how straight forward she is with her products and accessories. The package had all of the normal slumber party things like a robe, comb, and hair rollers but it also had a weight scale set at a permanent weight of 110 and a disturbing book on weight loss that read in all caps, DON T EAT. This package is an example of how misleading Barbie and her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The GI Joe doll portrays the image of a man in the military. He dresses in camouflage and carries around guns. Wagner Ott describes the GI Joe doll as a ...butch version of Barbie with the same realism and detail, but applied to the toy soldier concept (249). Considering Barbie s beautiful looks and countless perfect accessories, the GI Joe doll can relate to her. He has defined muscles, a smooth tan, and all of his accessories fit him perfectly. These two dolls display sexist attitudes in many ways. Barbie only moves in five different places, her neck, shoulders, and top of her legs, whereas, GI Joe can move in twenty one different places. This shows that the male doll can be more active and mobile but the female doll is restricted to a perfect posture and cannot do much outside. Because dolls and action figures are emotionally close to children s lives, they can become the source for discovering and analyzing how popular everyday objects help construct students sense of identity, politics and culture (Wagner Ott, 252). Children are beginning to see these dolls like Barbie and GI Joe and want everything they have and grow up to look exactly like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through attempting different practices that have been assigned by the SENCo at my chosen Educational Establishment, alongside my own theories that I will be using, I aim to analyse the impact of these practices which will enable me to evaluate the ambiguities and limitations to my research. • 7. Issues In Rwanda Genocide The absence within the literature of the central pillars and their composed themes creates problems when trying to address current and future contention between the international community and Rwanda. By relying largely on the genocide guilt card, issues important to Rwanda are sometimes either overlooked or plainly forgotten. The result is miscommunication and misunderstandings that complicate a delicate situation. For example is the previously mentioned debate on term limits for President Kagame. Despite the thesis not discussing the third term debate except for the mention in Chapter Two, it is an important event that will help continue the trend of how Rwandaviews the actions and decisions by international actors. The debate on whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The issue of abandonment will be brought to the forefront but not in terms of the genocide guilt card. Rwandan officials will believe that the same states that abandoned Rwanda before and during the genocide have little ability to criticise the continuation of the only person who did not leave the country during its darkest periods. President Kagame as leader of the RPF led the campaign to put an end to the massacres in response to international abandonment of the genocide. This might be easily misinterpreted as Rwanda promoting genocide guilt to deflect criticism of electing Kagame for more terms than the current Constitution allows. But at the heart of the issue is the distrust of the international community. They rather listen to and trust Kagame who did not abandon the country rather than the countries that did. How he ended the genocide and led the nation into wars with the DRC is met with the other two themes. Unlike the international community, which seems to disappoint Rwanda by not properly combating the FDLR , Kagame is credited for promoting the security of Rwandans by fighting the FDLR and other extremist groups bent on harming Rwanda. These military campaigns are all through a central belief that Rwanda needs to be self reliant for its own protection and development. Since the 2012 M23 allegations and aid withdrawal by donors, Rwandans are increasingly accepting President Kagame s call for self reliance. As discussed in Chapter Six, his rhetoric campaigns against foreign aid, Kagame continues to instruct Rwandans to trust that economic development has to come from within Rwanda rather than continual acceptance of foreign aid. Ronal Nkusi commented how the reduction of aid went beyond just the realm of rhetoric to include it as a belief to be held by all government officials. This sense ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Lather And Nothing Else Symbolism Lather and Nothing Else, a story that takes place in South America around the time of the early 1900 s. The atmosphere that revolves around the story consists of suspense, worry, and tension; keeping the reader intrigued. By using first person point of view, the reader doesn t know the thoughts of the enemy (Torres). Yet the author s use of symbolism, irony, and first person point of view is very effective. It allows the reader to establish a deeper emotional connection to the scenario being put forth in front of them and increasing the level of tension throughout the story. The perspective of Lather and Nothing Else is in first person. The author s decision to write the piece in this perspective is very effective because it has the ability to show the in depth emotions, thoughts, and personality of the town barber. The reader can view the character in all directions, gaining empathy and sympathy for him. Also, it gives the reader great insight into the conflict of the story (the dilemma inside of the barber s head) and let us see all the things the barber must consider in order to make his decision of remaining a barber, or becoming a murderer.... The razor could have been the difference between life and death in terms of Torres life. The barber could have potentially taken the life of Torres with a single slice of the razor blade to his neck as his eyes were shut and wouldn t have seen it coming. ...With his eyes shut he would not even see the shine of the razor or the gleam in my eye. • 9. The Importance Of A New Idea For Furniture Pieces By... It was the 1917 a period after the World Wat I when the De Stijl art movement in Netherlands was born. It was a period where in the art and in the design communities were changing and things starts to get the forms of the machine like. It was also the period of the Cubism which was influencing al the new designs. Thanks to being neutral during the World War I, Netherlands artist were able to focus on art that didn t reflect the dark moments of the war. The Schroder House and its furniture are one of the best and true example of the De StijlArchitecture. They were designed entirely by Gerrit Rietveld between 1919 1924. Some of other most important component of the group we can find Piet Mondrian which was a painter; Cornelis Van Eesteren which was an architect; and of course one of the main exponent of the De Stijl architecture Gerrit Rietveld which was an architect. The De Stijl art movement had just one goal: to make art that was as simple as possible. They wanted to purify art to precision and perfection. Two important elements were composition and balance in their work, making the De Stijl art movement influential in the next few decades of modern design and modern architecture such as we can see in Le Corbusier or Mies Van De Rohe or in the International Style. The De Stijl movement was theorized on the fundamental principles of the simple geometry (such as straight lines, squares, and rectangles) with asymmetrical arrangements as well as the use of true primary colors in tandem (such as blue, yellow, red, white and black). Also the association between positive and negative. The goal of the movement in design was to make simple things such as furniture and buildings a piece of art itself. It was a an abstract movement with the idea of the form following function and the emphasis on the structural components. • 10. Endangered Animals Are Endangered Tigers are primarily killed to supply underground black markets with its organs, pelts, and bones. These items are highly regarded in eastern medicine (although these treatments have been disproven and have no real medical value). Innocent endangered animals are being killed for false hopes and cures within the eastern culture. Poachinghas traditionally been defined as the illegal hunting, killing or capturing of wild animals. The difference between poaching and hunting is one, is that poaching is hunting without the approval of whomever controls or owns the land. Even though some people believe poaching creates lots of business and brings in major income for certain smaller, poorer countries, it endangers our species because it reduces the population of rare or endangered animals, destroys precious ecosystems within the wild, and poaching is extremely harmful to humans. Poaching endangers our species because it reduces the population of rare or endangered animals. It was designed so that the parties involved are able to settle there legal issues without having to go to court. Mediation is most effective when the problem is small and between two parties, it is growing in fields such as family law, and is a popular form of resolution between landlords and tenants. Mediationis an effective form of dispute resolutionfor three reasons, the courts are sometimes too busy with cases and this will eliminate that process, there are no overwhelming lawyer fees, and it supports a mutual satisfaction between the two parties. First, courts are constantly backed up with many different kinds of cases that have no time frame of how long they could take, some people can not afford to wait and want their problems to be solved as quickly as possible but want the end result to be fair. Highly sustainable habitats are necessary to support long duration human space flight missions as it impractical to re supply logistics (Shaw and Weck, 2014). At the time when national space policies have given top priority to human space flight missions, study of closed loop habitats are essential. In my opinion, this concert was the most high energy and energetic concert we have had (since my time here). The songs were all surrounded by the theme of holiday spirit and it gave a warm and friendly tone that I believe the audience felt too. We had a variety of songs, in cooperated dancing, and were able to have almost a full house. This will be the concertwe remember for the fun times and best choreography. It took a lot of preparation to put this concert together. Acapella alone had 10 songs we were participating in. And, many of the songs in this concert were in a different language. They sound so sophisticated and mature. It was also interesting to hear them perform another rendition of a song we had sang last year. Also, the middle schoolers did wonderful with their carol of the bells. In terms of our set list, I would say Gborn was our best piece. I heard the most feedback from the audience about how that song was beautiful, angelic, and just rich overall. I think we could have worked on dynamics at times but it is definitely a song that should be taken to tour. My personal favorite was Merry Christmas Mozart because it showed the fun side of us and gave the audience some perspective. Plus, as I looked around during that song I saw nothing but smiles. The actual, correct usage of the word antisocial is to be literally against society; against the everyday rules that most people follow in order to be part of a society. The ascending trials for each body part, with the exception of the second trial of the forearm, did not vary far from the mean threshold. When the second trial of forearm stimulation was given to the participant, there was a point in time (near the middle of administration) in which the experimenter accidentally placed the dial caliber tips onto the participant s skin at two separate times. This caused the participant to report feeling the stimulus as separate earlier than she did in the first and third forearm trials. Because of this error, the mean two point threshold of the forearm was not as reliable as it could have been had there been no error in the deliverance of stimuli. The purpose of this lab was, in fact, achieved and the participant s two point threshold means were calculated. The errors of this experiment could have been avoided by utilizing computer/mechanical stimulation as opposed to a dial caliper. Using a machine to administer the touch would ensure that the pressures as well as the timing and placement of each tip on the caliber were exactly the same. It is also important to note that the temperature of the dial caliber could have had an effect of the collection of data. At various points throughout the experiment, the participant jumped at the chilling temperature of the metal caliber. Beowulf is more of a Christian worldview if anything, but does also have pagan views in some aspects. For example, the story makes many references to God as well as saying that Beowulf is God s answer to their prayers as oppose to Satan, whom the people also prayed to out of desperation. But, Beowulf is said to have the strength of 30 men, which is obviously superhuman and leans away from Christian belief (Beowulf 300). Beowulf, is a reflection of many Anglo Saxon ideals and concepts. This work was written after the Anglo Saxons were already Christianized, yet the pagan traditions that had dominated their lives were still present in their minds. Overall, Beowulf contains many pagan themes and concepts, but yet it also contains many clear references to Christianity. It is an Anglo Saxon work with a peculiar spiritual atmosphere. However, although the means through which men gained fame may seem to conflict with certain elements of Christianity, the author reconciles this fame with many references to God. Although strength and heroism may not necessarily be Christian concepts or virtues, the author attributes both of these to God through the speech of his characters. This ties Beowulf s prowess and fame back to God, and mixes in a pagan concept to Christianity. However, Beowulf is essentially a Germanic warrior whose actions, despite their Christian glossing, are not of a truly self sacrificing character. But, that isn t necessarily a bad flaw. He is concerned with the courage and honour that the heroic code demands of him; the reason for his voyage to Denmark is not primarily to avenge and protect Hrothgar and his people, but to extend his and his lord s glory. Moreover, Beowulf s death does not deliver his people or ensure their safety (The Amalgamation). In effect, Beowulf has some religious accuracy but only to a certain degree. The Interpretation Of Dreams By Sigmund Freud Some dream big, some dream small, and sadly some dream not at all The Interpretation of Dreams was published by Sigmund Freud in the year 1900 as a thought provoking compilation of ideas surrounding the cognitive processes of dreaming. Although this book has been translated and edited since its original publishing date, it reads as if to hold true to Freudian fashion; addressing levels of consciousness and their effects on how specific dreams are formed. Freud makes a clear and reverent effort to acknowledge other s theories to explain the unexplainable. His focus throughout the text is to hypothesize on how regression, resistance, and censorship all play a delicate role in the remembrance and interpretation of ones dreams. It is Freud s skillful application of resistance and censorship that grants further contemplation of why dreams are so soon to fade and be forgotten upon awakening. It is also this application that guides the reader into how these two processes may require one to use free association to interpret such dreams. Resistance and censorship are explained by Freud as a cognitive process that happens due to the separation of the waking and sleeping mental states. He presents the idea that while one sleeps, the cognitive censorship used throughout waking hours is significantly reduced, making dreams possible. However, immediately present upon awakening is mental resistance, resulting in the forgetting or fragmenting of dreams. These symptoms are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If Earth history is compared to a calendar year, human life has existed for 23 minutes and we have used one third of Earth s resources in the last 0.2 seconds. 45 years ago, in 2017. Denmark research team estimated that by 2025, the world population would be over 8 billion people, around 2040 it could hit 9 billion and by 2070 it could reach a massive 10 billion people. It said that 10 billion is the magic number the earth can handle without being too crowded. Today in 2067, the population is around 11 billion, our planet is facing overpopulation problem. More people means more resources, competitions, chaos and decrease in security and safety, which pose a real challenge in the years to come. This fact alone is sufficient to urge humans to try to find solutions. Today, the majority of people argues that security and safety could improve by population control. Overpopulation acts as a new force that threatens and destroys peace. Population pressure has been a source of human conflict over resources for thousands of years. Essay On Family Law The Impact of Departure From The EU Will Impact Family Law While the country is still reeling from the EU referendum, we need to take a much closer look at how departure from the EU will impact family law in England and Wales. Family law is not a stranger in the sense of taking steps to move away from the EU which will take quite a bit of unraveling from the EU legislation. The same can be said regarding many of our other laws. Without a doubt, this will take quite some time and the process will probably drag out for quite some time. Although the long term impacts of Brexit, or departure of the UK from the EU, may not be fully felt for quite awhile, there are many consequences in regard to future divorces from the EU. Nigel Shepherd, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bear in mind, in the absence of this important EU legislation, this will lead to even more uncertainty regarding who has the jurisdiction to hear the case. It has been iterated that the courts will have to fill the vacuum with something that would be similar to Brussels II in order to address the situation. Adding to this, the Brussels IIa allows an order that was created in England to recognised and is enforceable in other jurisdictions. Orders that are commonly affected by the EU legislation includes child custody, other arrangements and matrimonial orders that need to be addressed by the new legislation in order to stay enforceable across the borders. Keeping agreements made between multinational couples in a divorce are governed by Brussels IIa which allows for a more uncomplicated approach for enforcement across different jurisdictions. The enforcement of these agreements will need to be addressed in light of any new legislation and will have the greatest impact on matrimonial property and who owns what in different countries. Other Arising Issues: Although family law is not the leading victim of departure from the EU (or Brexit), there will still be a great deal of uncertainty leading up to the formal Brexit while negotiations continue with the EU and this could take a number of years. In a time of great uncertainty for couples divorcing, there will be even greater anxieties and fears that will arise. On a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The system is lauded for providing universal coverage of all people ordinarily resident, and generally at no charge for the patient at the point of care (Mossialos, 2016). The breadth of covered services derives from the 2006 Health Act that put forth the Secretary of State s duty to promote a comprehensive health service to secure improvement in the physical and mental health of the people of England, and the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness (Legislation.gov.uk, 2006). On an annual basis, the Secretary of State sets health and efficiency goals for NHS England, the organization tasked with plan and budget management (Mossialos, 2016). Quality of care concerns are overseen by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which requires all healthcare providers to be registered, so their performance can be assessed against national quality standards. These national quality standards are developed by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), and include measures such as maximum wait times for key ... • 52. Lewis Mcgrath s Shannon And Apuleius The Golden Ass A common theme found in both, Campbell McGrath s Shannon and Apuleius The Golden Ass, is facing the consequences for venturing into the unknown. George Shannon and Lucius come face to face with unique obstacles, for instance George s narrative long struggle to acquire any form of comestible sustenance or Lucius being faced with the seemingly immoral task to murder a woman by having sexual intercourse with her when he is in donkey form, that they must overcome. They used their pride and determination, allowing them to trek onward in their paths. The men s situations differ in the way that George is traveling into the uncharted area of the United States with the Corps of Discovery and Lucius has an absurd fetish for the unusual and unknown. Both men experience pitfalls to each of their own degrees, however, pass with time as the stories go on. The men of both narratives experience crises, conjure up coping mechanisms to allow them to adapt briefly with their situations, and experience success and failures with their methods. George Shannon s venture into the unknown with these more experienced men proves to be quite the challenge when he separates from the group. These men were more experienced in a way that they were seasoned army veterans with great survival knowledge and tactics. George was on his own for fifteen days in attempt to impress his fellow explorers, without food, a way to hunt, or any sense of direction of where he is going to get back to the group. In the ... The Hawaiian Islands may look like they went undisturbed till their discovery in 1778. But unfortunately, that is not completely true. Hawaii has had its share of invaders and war. (Fitzpatrick) Geographically Hawaii was cut off from foreign influence, but as with every ancient civilization: war was inevitable. • 54. Differences Between New England Settlers And Chesapeake... When the English settled into the New World, they were split up into two sections, the Chesapeake region and the New England region. Although the English settled both, the two regions were severely different from each other when they were brought about. The New England and Chesapeake colonies differed in three ways: their reason for venturing over, economy, and population. These major differences were what shaped our nation today and what will continue shaping our nation in the future. When the Mayflower sailed over to the New World, on the boats were Puritans that were looking for a change in the way that their religion was practiced where the Chesapeake settlers came over for gold. Alongside the Puritans were the Separatists who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The gold was never found and the passage through America was given up in hopes of staying alive. Because the Chesapeake settlers were too interested in gold, they did not settle down and get ready for the harsh winters to come; leaving them unprotected to the fierce winter. The New England settlers were settles and ready, but they did loose a few men to the bitter cold, however not as many as the Chesapeake settlers did. The economy of the two regions also greatly differed because of the terrain that they landed on. Because the land in the south was much more fertile than in the north, the southern colonies thrived in rice and tobacco, profiting greatly. In New England the settlers could not grow anything in the rocky terrain and were forced into fishing, building, and farming. However, not much farming went on because of the infertile soil. In the Chesapeake slaves were also a main part of their economy. The slave trade made them very wealthy because of their closeness to the West Indies. They would be shipped many slaves and then use them to harvest their crops and plant their land. Soon, the slaves outnumbered white settlers by about four to one. When the English sailed over to the New World, there were only a handful of them, that is, until slavery was introduced. While New England was almost all white English settlers Chesapeake was made up of mostly African American slaves. In New England, the need for slaves was not very high because of the ...
