Examples Of Desserts
1 INTRODUCTION
Caitlin Hines discusses in her research Rebaking the Pie: The Woman as Dessert Metaphor that
there is a consistent, widespread, generally unconscious and undocumented metaphor in English
equating women as sex objects with desserts (Hines 1999: 145). Women as dessert metaphor
functions both in linguistic expressions, such as tart and cookie, and in customs, for example
women jumping out of cakes (ibid: 145). Hines argues that the woman as dessert metaphor reduces
women to objects, sexualizes and belittles women, making women seem like powerless, inanimate
objects. Moreover, she makes a point that women are not just objects, but sweet, and not just
desserts, but pieces or slices. She uses Sally McConnell Ginet s theory that ... Show more content on

Rihanna states that a man wants to lick the icing off , using cake and eating as metaphors for sex.
Moreover, in the example 4, blowing candles out could be a metaphor for an orgasm.
Unlike Trey Songz and Rihanna s songs, Melanie Martinez s Milk and Cookies does not have any
sexual allusions. However, it still depicts the use of the woman as dessert metaphor:
(5)I m fucking crazy, need my prescription filled Do you like my cookies? They re made just for
you A little bit of sugar, but lots of poison, too (Martinez 2015b)
As Caitlin Hines defines in her research, the woman as dessert metaphor reduces women to sinful
and decadent (1999: 148), which is shown in the example 5. In the example, the female singer is
offering her poisonous cookies to the receiver, making a connection with women and cookies. The
example could be interpreted in an abstract sense. The singer is sweet with a little bit of sugar , but
also sinful: but lots of poison, too .
R. Kelly s Cookie is filled with sexual allusions and is a metaphor for sex:

Thanksgiving Is A Holiday Of Many Interpretations Essay
It is no secret that Thanksgiving is a holiday of many interpretations. Depending on which interest
group is being asked, this day of observance can be accompanied by negative or positive
connotations. According to its Google definition, Thanksgiving is an annual national holiday
marked by religious observances and a traditional meal including turkey. Thanksgiving, as described
in textbooks across the country, is a national holiday which came to be in Plymouth, Massachusetts
during the year of 1621. In its prime, Thanksgiving has been described as a three day festival of
eating, hunting, and other entertainment in honor of the pilgrims first successful harvest,
(History). What history textbooks around the world do not tell you is that these are only miniscule
details regarding what the holiday actually commemorates. According to numerous sources,
Thanksgiving has been given a negative reputation for laying the foundation of Native American
suffering. A short film published by WatchCut on Youtube explores fifteen Native Americans and
their one worded responses to Thanksgiving . Some of their answers include sadness , lies ,
inaccuracy , and colonization , though some voice that when they hear the word Thanksgiving ,
they think about family , football and thankfulness . Above all else, they did not seem too keen on
the idea of the holiday being the center of discussion. That is primarily due to a heavy history of

Oedipa Mass In Thomas Pynchon s The Crying Of Lot 49
An illicit underground mail service, ran by highly trained assassins that originated in sixteenth
century Europe and is still thriving in twentieth century America, obviously the story created by
an insane person, yet Oedipa Mass, of Thomas Pynchon s The Crying of Lot 49, has made her
life devoted to unearthing this seemingly impossible gang in the 1960 s. Named co executor of
the will of an eccentric wealthy ex boyfriend, Peirce Inverarity, Oedipa is told about a rare stamp
collection owned by Inverarity that was comprised of fakes, all with similar water marks, symbols
and inconsistencies that Oedipa eventually concludes must belong to an elaborate illegal mailing
service named W.A.S.T.E. and further attempts to convince herself that this service is controlled
by a murderous group known only as Tristero. To prove the existence of such a group, Oedipa runs
through a rather elaborate internal appeal to logos to prove to herself through reason, logic, and
facts that the Tristero exists. While she does collect evidence and testimonies that suggest to the
groups activates, Oedipa s major support to the group s current state is deduced logically to
remove any chance of some other possibility existing about Tristero s doings. Though the
conclusion of a deduction is meant to be infallible, Oedipa purposefully makes errors in the
establishment of many of the premises required to make any sound conclusion. Though each
deduction appears probable at first glance, deeper analysis

Ph Lab
Name: Amra Aliyu

Lab: pH At The UN
Course: Chem 106
Date: 7/11/2015
INTRODUCTION pH is a scale that is used to determine the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. A
solution
with a pH less than 7 is considered acidic and a solution with a pH of more than 7 is considered
basic. In the first part of this lab we had to make several solutions and using a litmus paper
deduce it s pH number, this is done by analyzing its color, and determine if the solution is acidic
or basic. In the second part we had put a basic solution into several solutions to see if it would
have an effect on its pH. A more detailed information about the procedure can be found in
Cornerstone chemistry lab for Hunter college chemistry 106 students.

Since we were dealing with a solid we knew that we had to prepare our solution. In doing so we
identified that the formula weight of the solid listed on its perspective bottle was 174.18 g/mol.
We set up a proportion (174.18 g/mol)*(0.05 mol/1L)*(1L/1000mL)*15mL), and determined that
we needed .1305 gram of the solid to be weighed out. After weighing out the calculated mass, we
then proceeded to place the solid into a clean beaker and then added 50mL of deionized water
using a graduated cylinder. The solution remained clear as the solid dissolved via mixing and
swirling, and we were certain that we had added the right amounts of solid and water, because
when we tested the pH value of the solution via a pH strip, we got a pH value of 8 due to the strip

Advantages Of Problems With Corporate Customer Information...
B.1 Discussion of challenges faced by the selected company 04 Problems with Corporate Customer
Information System (CCIS) All transaction systems are linked with CCIS which is a central
repository of up to the minute customer information. CCIS main functions can be providing
information about the products and services they use and their relationships with other customers
and the organization. Advantages of CCIS can be that it reduces the costs associated with redundant
systems by functioning as a single, central point of entry for creation, inquiry and retrieval. CCIS
easily accommodates virtually any financial institution s system environment because it readily
accepts information from a variety of systems. In order to build and sustain a competitive edge,
service organization need to strive to maintain a superior quality of services in an effort to gain

Essay on Components of PCI Standards
I.Components of PCI standards
PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS)
(PCI DSS) is the base standard for merchants and card processors. It addresses security technology
controls and processes for protecting cardholder data. Attaining compliance with PCI DSS can be
tough, and can drastically impact your organization s business processes, service, and technology
architecture (Microsoft, 2009). PCI DSS version 1.2 is the most recent version of the standard, and
takes the place of all previous versions of PCI DSS. The DSS standard is structured into the group
of six principles and 12 requirements.

I.Build and maintain a secure network
Requirement 1: Install and maintain a firewall for the protection of card holder data
Firewall controls the data traffic between internal and external non trusted networks. All systems
must be protected from unauthorized access from non trusted networks.
Requirement 2: Do not use default security configurations like logins, passwords
Default settings and configurations are the easiest way to approach any network. These default
settings are well known in hacker communities.
II.Protect card holder data
Requirement 1: Protect stored cardholder data
Encryption, masking and hashing are the critical aspects of data security. It is not easy to read the
encrypted information without cryptographic keys. Time based storage and disposal policies play
an important role. Try to store as minimum amount of cardholder data like there is no need to store
verification code, pin number and expiration dates.
Requirement 2: Encrypt transmission of cardholder data across a public networks
Always use encryption before the passing sensitive information to a public networks. Secure socket
layer (SSL) is an industry wide protocol for secure communication between client and server.
Organizations should avoid using instant messaging applications for the transmission of sensitive
data.
III.Maintain a vulnerability management program
Requirement 1: Use up to date

The Journey Towards Nuclear Power Essay
There is a great depth of curiosity in traversing the unknown, in embarking on journeys where the
discoveries far outweigh your greatest expectations. In terms of nuclear power, the journey is still
ensuing. Has progress been made? Yes. Have policies been formulated? Yes. Has a vast deal of
information been researched? Yes. And yet, the learning continues, and it will be a never ending
process that depends upon harnessing, refining, and innovating nuclear energy and technology. As
the old age adage goes, however, with this learning comes knowledge, and knowledge is power.
Power and responsibility, however, are not mutually exclusive prospects, and all three of these
components are highly applicable to the atomic energy discussed in Dr.... Show more content on

This insinuates that the text is not intended for a mature, adult mind, but rather for a younger
generation who might yet still read those types of stories. In this way, the text becomes more
engaging, captivating younger minds while still informing them about atomic power. Each
chapter, moreover, follows the outline of wishes : in the first chapter, we (the audience and the
narrator collectively), wish for power. In the second, we wish for food and health. In the third, we
wish for the atom to be our friend. This concept of friendship, intertwined with the childhood
fantasy of making wishes come true, makes the text more relatable and thereby more
understandable to young audiences (Haber). The prospect of an intended audience is pertinent
due to the policy perspective Haber and Disney are trying to convey. In fact, Our Friend the Atom
is merely a method for indoctrination in terms of soothing the public after the event of the nuclear
bombings. The text describes an end to poverty, world hunger, and a chance for peace by
embracing the power of the atom; it does so by presenting a historical context of the atom, an
analogous overview of the problem, and then describing the benefits of atomic

Hamilton Vs. Jefferson

I had intended to post Part II of the WWI question last night, but got caught up doing movie
reviews on Life of Ando. So to slake your ravenous historical thirst in the meantime, here is my
assignment from my history class this past week. If you re really into American history and how
the politics of the early Republic shook out, Jefferson vs. Hamilton is a great study. It s also a
little, I guess comforting, to know that as bad as we think today s politicians are, politics was
always a very dirty game. Like Bismarck said, Laws are like sausages. Better to not see them being
made. And as Ecclesiastes says, There s nothing new under the sun.

However, without Hamilton s counter balance Jefferson s policies may have left the government
weak and ineffectual to deal with major crises both at home and abroad.
Each viewpoint needed the other to create a government that would be strong enough to protect
itself and it s people from internal and external strife, but not so strong that it would infringe on
the rights of the people as enumerated in the Bill of Rights and in the Revolutionary spirit. These
issues, of course, weren t resolved or ceased to be relevant after Hamilton and Jefferson left the
scene. These are still very much the issues we deal with even now, over 200 years later. As much
as we might dislike, or even hate, the position of the other party, without some balance both sides
would undoubtedly abuse their power...more than they already do.

Mongol Dbq Essay
I believe the mongols were barbaric and don t deserve to have the scale tip in their favor. In the
first slide it says the streets were filled with human flesh and fat, from women, children, and
adults regardless if they were a combatant or not. Another example would be the city of Riazan,
it was razed to the ground and it s inhabitants were all massacred, only a few were left alive to
spread the message. It s widely known that if you refused to surrender then the whole city would
be massacred and raised to the ground. (Doc1 3) Doc 1 3 talks about how the Mongol army was
just more than a ragtag horde of calvary. They had discipline and often implemented
psychological warfare into their tactics, I.E. attacking a city non stop so the defenders get no
sleep or raising a city to the ground to send a message. The mongols had a system where any
deserters would either get killed or get their comrades killed in their place, or if their comrades fail
to rescue them, then their comrades will get executed.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Some lifestyle related conditions and decisions increase the likelihood of a person having heart

heart disease and stroke. If you lower your blood pressure and cholesterol, and if you do not

Is Whaling Is Wrong
Whale hunting is a very controversial issue. Some argue that it is morally wrong to hunt an animal
with such a high level of intelligence, some argue that whales shouldn t be hunting due to their
dwindling numbers and their risk for extinction, and others argue that it is the only means of food
for some indigenous people who have been hunting whales for centuries. I personally, am against
commercial whaling, but do understand the IWC s (International Whaling Commission) catch limits
for aboriginal subsistence whaling.
The argument, hunting animals with a high intelligence is morally wrong, is an argument that
needs more research to back up that claim. There is not enough research done comparing whale
intelligence with our common food animals

Monogamy Vs Polygamy
Relationships are complicated, especially romantic ones; they involve a wide range of emotions
and expectations that need to be met or the relationship will fail. When it comes to polygamy there
are even more variables added to the equation since there are additional partners involved in the
relationship. Unlike the common belief that polygamyis where a man has multiple wives, it is
actually much more in depth where both sexes can have other romantic partners. As long as one lets
their partner know who they are seeing the relationship is considered healthy, although there is still
the obvious possibility of jealousy occurring. Honesty is everything in polygamy, even though
individuals are allowed to be romantically involved with others,... Show more content on

In the United States it is illegal to be in an any of the three forms of polygamy if one is married.
In the early days Mormons were even persecuted if they were found practicing polygamy. If
individuals want to be polyamorous they must do so without being lawfully wedded to their
partners. In a society that is constantly progressing towards giving people their rights, polygamist
still struggle in being viewed as a legitimate way of life. With the gay rights movement having so
much momentum and finally becoming legal in the United States, polygamist thought the outcome
could soon be the same for them. The one major argument against polygamy is that it is a choice
unlike the predetermination of one s sexual orientation. Critics suggest that individuals should just
be single instead of engaging in a relationship where they are not faithful to one person. Although it
is not certain where the future of polygamy is headed, the controversial lifestyle is growing in
popularity as more people explore their sexual and emotional identities.
There is no doubt that as time goes on new generations develop different attitudes than their
parents which in turn shapes the modern world we live in. As far as marriages go, people are no
longer in such rush to get married, have children, and start the typical family associated with
adulthood. This in part could be because of high divorce rates that many individuals have
experienced either with their parents or someone they know. Cathy Meyer

Role Of Organisms On A Tropical Ecosystem
Part B The Role of Organisms
A producer in a tropical ecosystem is the plants and trees. A primary consumer in a tropical
ecosystem is a squirrel. A secondary consumer in a tropical ecosystem is a jack rabbit. A tertiary
consumer in a tropical ecosystem is a mountain lion. A decomposer in a tropical ecosystem is
mushrooms, fungi and moss.
The predator is the Mountain Lion. The prey is the deer. So the predator and prey relationship is
between the mountain lion and the deer. The predator which is the mountain lion hunts for the deer
to survive and feed off. The mountain lion is a carnivore and is one of the few at the top of this
tropical food chain. The prey which is the deer is a herbivore and feeds of plants and trees.

Disparities of the Death Penalty
disparity of application (gender, race)
1. Disparity of application of the death penalty is a researched and heavily discussed topic.
There is no disparity applied to the death penalty due to race. Many individuals believe that
discrimination against minorities directly contributes to the amount of offenders on death row
that are African American, Hispanic, or part of a different minority group. These trends exist for
a reason, however I believe the reason is due to the fact that individuals strive to meet different
goals dependent on their racial background. Currently, approximately 41 % of inmates on death
row are black, and 44 % are white. There are more inmates who are white on death row, which
makes it hard to determine that disparity was applied based on race or gender when individuals
are faced with a death penalty sentence. There are far less women on death row. There are not
many women on death row because the death penalty is not often applied to their cases. However,
this is not due to their gender, it is based on the crimes that were committed and typically women
commit less violent crimes than men.
2. Furman v. Georgia
Furman v. Georgia proved that the way the death penalty was administered was unconstitutional.

A Research On Pedestrian Detection
The four papers about pedestrian detection we chose to summarize were great and informative,
all suggested useful techniques and new ideas in deep learning for pedestrian detection.
However, there were few open issues or room for improvement in some of the papers. Here are
some of the ideas we suggested to resolve these issues in each paper.
Joint Deep Learning for Pedestrian Detection (UDN)
Even though the Unified Deep Net (UDN) method learned features by designing hidden layers for
the Convolutional Neural Network such that features, deformable parts, occlusions, and
classification can be jointly optimized, one of its problems is it treats pedestrian detection as a
single binary classification task, which is not able to capture rich pedestrian variations. For
example, the method is not able to distinguish pedestrians from hard negatives due to their visual
similarities. This problem can be resolved by jointly optimizing pedestrian detection with auxiliary
semantic tasks, such as including pedestrian attributes and scene attributes, which was represented
in our previous report.
Another problem with the UDN method is it did not explicitly model mixture of templates for
each body parts, and did not depress the influence of background clutters. Thus, the method could
be improved by explicitly model the complex mixture of visual appearance at multiple levels. For
example, some extra layers can be added into the hierarchy of the UDN, so that at each feature
level, this

Heathcliff Dishonest Quotes
Honest people don t hide their deeds (Bronte 90), this quote reveals the relationships of dishonest
characters that occur in the novel, this quote is spoken from Nelly, the housekeeper, to Isabella,
Edgar s sister and Heathcliff s new beau, she says to persuade Isabella to believe that Heathcliff is
dishonest (which can be true now and then) as well as to put into question his background.
However, this quote can likewise interface with Catherine who is is in love with Heathcliff,
nonetheless, she is devastated that she has to make a decision between choosing love or social

Fruit and Hydroponics
Hydroponics
Introduction
NAME HERE and I became fascinated by hydroponics and the idea that one doesn t have to get
their hands dirty to be a great gardener, and if your like us that s a good thing.
The idea of hydroponics has been around since the pyramids where build, but in all these years
it never seemed to catch on. It took about forty six hundred years before the first scientist took a
look at hydroponics and adapted it to grow crops, this was a professor at the University of
California, and the result was a 25 foot tomato plant that had to be harvest by a ladder. Thus
hydroponics was reborn and has been advancing ever since. Yet up to 5 years ago the home grower
and generally the public didn t know about hydroponics. It was ... Show more content on

This plant may have only grown 7cm but it has a diameter of 6cm, which may be smaller than the
peas but in my opinion the tomatoes look way more healthier than the peas, because the leaves on
the tomatoes are bigger and have a nicer shade of green.
Peas(The vegetable)results This plant came in at a close third. It has a length of 13cm. Even
though it has a longer stem than the tomatoes it was our opinion that the peas weren t as healthy
looking as the tomatoes were. Some of its leaves where green, but some had unhealthy looking
spots on them.
Tinkerbell(The flower)results The results of this plant wasn t very good at all. Not only did this
plant come in dead last but it also looks almost dead.
It grow about 1cm in the first week and just kind of stopped there.
Summary
To summarize this project, I would have to say that it was a success.
Since we have answer the problem of which plant thrives the greatest. Obviously, the bean, our
legume is the best by far and the tomatoes our fruit is second the peas our vegetable are third, and
dwindling in last the last place the all non mighty flower the tinkerbell.

Essay On Starve Or Kill A Lifeboat
To Starve or Kill in a Lifeboat Webster s dictionary defines utilitarianism as a doctrine that the
useful is the good and that the determining consideration of right conduct should be the
usefulness of its consequences (Merriam Webster). This doctrine is used in cases when trying
to decide whether an issue is morally acceptable or not. In the case of the sailors stranded in a
lifeboat at sea, the question raised is whether or not the men were morally corrupt by killing the
cabin boy. There are two basic approaches used to determine the outcome of this case. The first
has to do with deciding if the benefits of killing a person outweigh the costs (Sandel 32). The
second approach says that consequences are not the only factor to consider because some moral
duties and rights are more important (Sandel 33). Suppose you were the judge, assume that you
were asked to decide whether killing the cabin boy was morally permissible, how would you

Redemption In A Christmas Carol
Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol presents to the reader the transformation of an egotistic,
miserable man, named Ebenezer Scrooge, to a compassionate and merrier elderly who finds the
true perception of Christmas. Good afternoon, my name is Hayley Harris Organ; I am here before
you to address the importance of studying the humorous yet stern approach to Scrooge s plight in
the novella A Christmas Carol. This short novel acknowledges the threat of holding a selfish life.
The author makes a clear reference to greed, cost on fate and redemption in the text.
Dickens has accredited greed in the course of his novel and discusses Scrooge as a covetous old
sinner. Scrooge believed that poverty could be avoided by hard work and claims that the prisons ...

He expresses change and vows to become a better person. Pg. 116 He became as good a friend,
as good a master, and as good a man, as the good old city knew... Some people laughed to see the
alternation in him, but he let them laugh... His own heart laughed; and that was quite enough for
him. The technique used is repetition to emphasize Scrooge s transformation. Scrooge repents
selfishness of his way of life and devotes to have a charitable heart and live his life fulfilled with
joy and surrounded by people. Page 110 shows an example of personification, I will honour
Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the past, the present and the
future. The spirits of all Three shall strive within me. Scrooge repents the selfish life he once
invested in when he realised that being a miser caused him to miss out on the most important and
pleasurable part of living.
A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens is a compelling tale of greed, love and charity. Studying
this short novel at school is necessary because it concedes the threats of holding and leading a
selfish life and how acting greedy is notorious on your fate and your perspective of life. Through
his representation of Scrooge, Dickens wants the reader to learn from his miserable personality and
encourages others

Poetic Devices In The Tyre Shop By Bob Orr
The Tyre Shop is a poem written by Bob Orr in 2001. It is a free verse poem speaking of an artists
admiration and perhaps even adoration of the man who runs the tyre shop near his residence. The
artist frequently refers to his lack of inspiration throughout the text though his inspiration from the
tyre shop man seems to be unwavering. The poem contains no rhymescheme and, as said
previously, is composed of 29 free form verses which convey the artistic ramblings of the writer.

used to communicate these themes.

Hitler s View Of The Jewish People Essay
From 1939 to 1945 the world saw actions and atrocities unparalleled in the War against Germany,
the legacies of such actions we are still seeing today. Perhaps the most notable atrocity that was
born from this war was the persecution of Jewish people in Germany and around Europe and the
corresponding murder of up to 6 million Jewish people . When Adolf Hitlers National Socialist
party seized power on January 30, 1933, there were approximately 525,000 Jewish people living in
Germany, less than one percent of the population. Throughout the years leading up to the official
start of World War Two the Jewish people were treated harshly and condemned for no other reason
than the fact that they were Jewish, in 1935 the Nuremberg laws furthered this condemnation by
defining what it meant to be a Jew, deprived Jewsof German citizenship and legally prohibited
them from a variety of occupations. Families were split apart and many families fled as far as
they could have from the horrors of a country they once called home. Hitler s view of the Jewish
people is highlighted in his publication Mein Kampf :
A Jew is and remains a typical parasite, a sponger who like a noxious bacillus keeps spreading as
soon as a favorable medium invites him. And the effect of his existence is also like that of
spongers: wherever he appears, the host people die out. The Jew today is the great agitator for the
complete destruction of Germany.

Films on Demand: Sociology Collection: Social Institutions
There are different social institutions such as family, education, religion, health care, government,
and the economy and work. Each of these are important to society for many reasons. They make
people who they are and teaches them how to function in society. Family is where everything
should start. Your family is the first form of socialization that you experience as well as the
religion that your family is a part of. Religion is another thing that helps to form who you are. As
you grow education is another big part of your formation. Family, religion and education are the

Each institution influences everyone differently. For me I am influence by my family more than

My mother was the one who taught me how to act for an early age so that I knew what was
acceptable and what was not. Religion is not really something that has influence me as much as I

Comparing God and AI in Neuromancer Essay
Parallels between God and AI in Neuromancer
The world of meat provides the base for much of what happens throughout William Gibson s novel
Neuromancer. The lives of characters are shaped by their flesh and blood experiences. The realm
of artificial intelligence (AI) is the base for all of the events that are central to the life of a
character. All events and lives are under control of the AI, and all things serve the AI s purpose.
The matrix serves to mash the two realms together, in times and places where AI cannot physically
control the meat. The relationship between these realms is a direct parallel to God s relationship
with man.

This grand scheme remains unknown to Case, and the rest of humanity for that matter, but its
existence is made known. This is indicative of the great meaning of life mystery that Christianity
seeks to understand and explain.
Case is not the sole representative of humanity. All men and women are; human nature and the
desires, needs, and demands thereof are thrown under the term meat. This word is symbolic
itself, being the physical makeup of humans and the source of human movement, as well as being
food for survival. Meat is humanity, then. The meat does all kinds of godless things, including
rampant and wanton drug use, casual, mindless sex, crime for crime s sake as a way of life, and
remaining ignorant to a higher power other than their own will. The portrayal of humanity as meat
makes it a polar opposite to the omnipotent, omnipresent AI. The meat is so far removed from god
that it no longer cares about searching for something greater, it only finds itself indulging
constantly in the senses. For the AI to carry out its purpose, for God to tend to His sheep, there
must be a medium.
The medium comes in the form of a salvific complex of fiber optic cable and ROM,

Memory Retrieval Essay
Memory retrieval is likely to be good after repeated testing of that material. In fact, practising
retrieval has a larger effect on memory than revising the information (Hockley, 2009).
Another factor that influences the quality of retrieved information is the way one studied the
material. As such, material that was studied over a number of sessions and contexts has more
chance of being retrieved correctly after a period of time than the material that has been studied
over one long session (Bjork, 2001). The spacing between the sessions should not be too big or
too little, as in case it is too big the person might simply forget the material he already studied, and
in case it is too little the spacing effect would not work. Overall, spacing is important for long term
retention, whilst cramming over one long session works for short term memory.
Another thing that matters is the information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Context cues play a major role in memory retrieval, and might vary from the room, smell, or
sounds (Eich, 1980). Academic implications of this finding might be studying in a silence, as
exams are usually conducted in a silence. One of the important context cues is if a person
consumed some substances while studying and while taking an exam. According to Carter and
Cassady (1998) that is true for caffeine, as well as other substances such as nicotine for example, if
one was smoking while studying, injection of nicotine in the system might later trigger the memory.
It is also true for cocaine and amphetamines. Additionally, Adan and Serra Grabulosa (2010) found
that a combination of caffeine and glucose helps memory consolidation; therefore, studying that is
combined with consuming of those substances would lead to a better information recall. Obviously,
one has to think of health consequences and avoid drugs, as well as limit his caffeine, nicotine and
glucose

Internal Conflict In The Hunger Games
Katniss Internal Conflicts
In life there always seems to be some sort of violence and there always seems to be a good and a
bad side. Directed by Gary Ross, The Hunger Games is a movie about 24 tributes fighting to the
death for the Hunger Games crown and freedom from ever having to physically fight in the arena
again. It is a game of violence, ferocity, and blood, and only one tribute can win. Even though
stories often have a Battle between Good and Evil, it is Katniss s internal conflict confronting her
own good and evil that portrays humanity with a longing for destruction, violent inclination, and
sense of separation. When one loves a person or something dearly, then they have the tendency to
do almost anything they can to protect and save them from whatever harm they come across.
Katniss volunteered for the games knowing she was saving her sister from a terrible fate. She
made a promise that she would try her best to win the Hunger Games, but her confidence in her
own ability to kill another person was minimal. She did not want to get any blood on her hands but
knew that in order to win she would be forced to. Crispin Sartwell recognized situations like these
when he said, your goodness, like mine, has little to do with who you are and everything to do with
the social conditions you find yourself in (Sartwell). The circumstance Katniss found herself in was
full of violence, pain, and ruthlessness which further contributed to the tainting of her humanity

stressors are involved for those in military relationships, and a brief history of what military

Other effects of low relationship satisfaction can be caused from the individuals experiencing
anxiety and or depression. Over 25% of military personnel look for professional care due to these
diagnostics (Trump, Lamson, Lewis, 2015). An individual experiencing mental distress does not
have the energy to work on a difficult relationship. It is important to conduct more research on
military romantic relationships to bridge the gap between what is known and unknown. This
information can help prepare military couples for the changes that will occur in their lives and help
the couple to better understand the impact deployment has on their relationship. Military marriages
are falling apart for reasons that can be easily fixed with external support. Community resources
are available to aid military spouses while they are dealing with the separation. However, these
resources are not being used as they should. There are plenty of spouses that would benefit from the
outside aid, the issue comes into play that they don t know about them. Informing research to help
prepare the couple for their distant relationship to military couples can bridge the gap between these
communication barriers the couples experience.

Part 1: The process of Canonization is the process that a person must go through to become a
saint. This began around the tenth century. Pope John Paul II changed the process in 1983. Here
is the process. The first requirement is that the person must be dead for at least five years. They
must be a very holy person and a servant of God. Then the person s local church members must
start a petition to request that this person should become a saint. The Bishop will look into this
person s life and decide whether or not to pass this person on to the next step to the Pope. If he
does a couple of theologians will look more deeply into this person s life and evaluate the person.
People who are martyrs will automatically become a saint because they should amazing faith and

time of Jesus and a long time after the ascension. The next step is to have at least two miracles

In the normal conduction of the heart the electrical impulse starts in the SA node, also called the

Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a condition caused by the weakening of the heart and the
cardiovascular system. It develops when the heart is not able to pump enough blood. Some causes
of CHF would include, narrowed arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle coronary artery

High blood pressure is the leading cause of CHF in the elderly. High blood bressure put high
demands on the heart to pump blood. This prolonged demand weakens the heart muscle over
time. The heart doesn t pump as efficiently as it should, the blood slows down and less blood is

Consumption Overpopulation and Its Effects on the Environment
Consumption Overpopulation
Think about a sign that says EARTH Max Capacity 10 billion. Based on what they have the
human population plans out parties. They have a lack of space and resources. Anyone who
would plan these parties would have to take in account for the amount of people that would have
to scrunch in with each other, and how many people would not have enough food to last the party.
Which basically makes it so the guests are down to a certain number. Our planet is a close
similarity to the already mentioned party. Just like how a large room can only offer a certain
amount of resources. Despite this idea, the concepts of overpopulation, and resource degradation
still are at large and are a risk.

of all the resources in the environment (Burke 2001). The very same Burke argues that the lack of

theory is drastically flawed. The very first idea is the fatalistic belief program that block the actual

Franchising Franchising is a business model that allows companies to rapidly expand their market
share. According to Franchise.com (2015), there are three types of franchises: distributorships,
trademark licensing, and business format franchises. When two organizations enter into a
distributorship, the originating company provides the rights another company to sell their products.
An example of a distributorship is when an auto manufacturing company grants rights to a
dealership to sell their vehicles (Franchise.com, 2015). Trademark licensing is when one company
allows another company to use their trademark (Franchise.com, 2015). The business format
franchise authorizes franchisees to sell the parent company s products and/or services as well as
utilize their business model. This type of franchising is the most common and is the type needed to
obtain to open a new Cold Stone Creamery. Pros. There are many pros associated with buying a
new business format franchise. First, since the franchisee obtains the parent company s business
model, individuals who are interested in starting a new business but are not confident in their
abilities or lack experience in business, will receive a successful model to emulate (Williams, 2011).
In addition, the franchise may also help the franchisee determine the best location for the business,
help with the acquisition of equipment, and may help finance the endeavor. Next, most

Male and Female Relations in To The Lighthouse
To The Lighthouse exemplifies the condition of women when Woolf was writing and to some
extent yet today. It offers a solution to remedy the condition of both men and women. To say the
novel is a cry for a change in attitude towards women is not quite correct. It shows the plight of
both men and women and how patriarchy is detrimental to both genders. Mrs. Ramsey. Both suffer
from the unequal division of gender power in Woolf s society. Lily is also very much a product of
society, yet she has new ideas for the role of women and produces one answer to the problems of
gender power. Besides providing these examples of patriarchy, To The Lighthouse examines the

Losing personality, one lost the fret, the furry , the stir (Lighthouse 63). When alone Mrs.
Ramsey must lose her personality because it is a show, a created essence which takes work to
maintain. A symbol of this is apparent when Mrs. Ramsey covers the skull in her children s room.
She covers the reality with a veil, much like all men and women cover their true identity in order to
play the role patriarchal society has given to them. Mrs. Ramsey even avoids looking at her own
face in the mirror. Is it possible that she would not even recognize herself? I think, yes, because
she does not have a fixed identity. She does not know who she is or what she really looks like. She
must change in every situation, with every different man she is expected to support.
Mrs. Ramsey supports these men in her life because that is the only way she can create an
identity. Woolf suggests that even this support may be false. Of course it is false, because Mrs.
Ramsey has no other choice. She cannot lose herself in her work like a man. Her work is to make
men feel superior and this is ingrained in her mind. Of her husband we are told that, She was not
good enough to tie his shoe strings, she felt (Woolf, Lighthouse 32).
In spite of the power of men, To The Lighthouse suggests that many men feel sterile. Perhaps men
are psychologically sterilized by power. Patriarchal men can form no equal relationships with
women

Censorship In 1984 And Today s North Korean Government
Censorship
Potter Stewart, an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, once said, Censorship
reflects a society s lack of confidence in itself ( Potter Stewart Quotes ). A well built, structured
society can tolerate dissent. On the other hand, some governments censors their citizens to suppress
opposing opinions. This is relevant to the novel 1984, by George Orwell, and today s North Korean
government as both countries use the same types of censorship to censor information and ideas and
influence their citizens opinions. In the novel, the totalitarian government, which is called the Party
ruled by a god like figure who is Big Brother, controls every aspect of human life ranging from
action to thought. This control can be seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1984, limiting communication comes in the form of language. The Party are inventing a new
language that shortens words, and they call it Newspeak. Syme, a philologist who specializes in
Newspeak discusses this language with Winston:
It s a beautiful thing, the Destruction of words. Of course the great wastage is in the verbs and
adjectives, but there are hundreds of nouns that can be got rid of as well. It isn t only the
synonyms; there are also the antonyms. After all, what justification is there for a word, which is
simply the opposite of some other word? A word contains its opposite in itself. (Orwell

Laurence Steinberg A 16 Year Old To Vote Analysis
In the article, A 16 year old is as good as an 18 year olds or a 40 year old at voting by Laurence
Steinberg argues that 16 years old are allowed to vote in parts of South America and Europe and
they do just fine. She believes 16 and 17 year olds are reasonable, can get politics information
and can make good political decisions. According to Steinberg, someone who pays taxes, has a
job, drive and serves in the military, should also be given the right to drink and vote. In addition to
that, Steinberg claims that there are people who matures emotionally and intellectually around the
ages of 15 and 22 year old. Steinberg disagree that more than 8 million Americans who are under

They can make immature choices regarding politics and at the same time not really care about
politics activities. It is normal that teens can be irrational, unreasonable and complain about things
because they are still in their process of maturation and growing up. Still, when it comes to voting it
can risky that they could be given the right to vote at that age because they might not think about
their impulsive decisions or the consequences of their decisions when it comes to politics
activities. They get distracted by everything and focus more on technology and relationships in
school; therefore, they are still maturing. People at the age of 16 are not mature enough, they do
not pay attention of their consequences of their choices. They might not make serious decisions
about many stuff because they think they are not adults yet. This might change a little be more
when they turn 18 years old , they might have matured a little be more and if not, they are self

Samuel Adams Beer Competitive Analysis
Competitive Analysis
For the Samuel Adams brand, indirect competition is based primarily in distilled spirits, liqueurs,
and wines. Spirits typically contain 37.5% ABV or greater and are usually not infused with any
flavors during the distilling process, however, some modern spirits are infused with flavors after
distilling. Liqueurs, on the other hand have a slightly lower ABV and are characterized by uniquely
infused flavors and high sugar content. Wine includes any alcoholic beverage that is made from
fermented fruit juice and contains from 7% 18% ABV.
The most common distilled spirits include whisky, vodka, rum, and tequila. Whisky (or whiskey)

Following the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, the major breweries continued to use unmalted cereal
grains to provide the full body and mouthfeel of a real beer while keeping the alcohol content low.
The maturation tanks (they call them chip tanks) that Anheuser Busch utilizes are horizontal
and, as such, the yeast aggregates more quickly. Anheuser Busch refers to this process as a
secondary fermentation, with the idea being that the chips give the yeast more surface area to
rest on. This is also combined with a procedure that re introduces wort into the chip tank
therefore activating the fermentation process again. By placing chips at the bottom of the tank,
the yeast remains in suspension longer, giving it more time to reabsorb and process green beer
flavors that Anheuser Busch believes are off flavors which detract from overall drinkability. As
with most food products opinions differ regarding its taste. While some drinkers prefer the
lightness of beers like Budweiser and consume it as refreshment, some beer writers consider it as
being too bland. The beer is light bodied with faint sweet notes and negligible bitterness, leading
to reviews characterizing it as a ...beer of underwhelming blandness. Despite these negative
reviews, Budweiser has a 19.9 user share and accounts for 26% of sales volume in the regular
domestic category,

Keeping Memos For The State Of Texas
Although it can be hard at times, it is very important to read and keep memos given to you by
employers. Company s update their policies from time to time and you have to abide by the
changes. When I worked for the state of Texas we would receive multiple emails regarding policy
changes and or updates. I had to abide by the changes.
Privacy Rights Clearinghouse went over computer and workstation monitoring, email monitoring,
telephone monitoring, mobile device monitoring, audio and video monitoring, GPS tracking,
postal mail and social media monitoring. Employers are able to see what is on your screen, how
much time you spend away from your computer and how many keystrokes per hour each employer
does. Employers are able to discretely monitor employees with certain computer equipment.
Employees may not know they are being monitored. Employers can review email content. Even
though the message may have an option for marking an email as private, the company may still
have access to the email. You should assume that your work emails are not private. Even though
you may delete your emails, the company still has access to them also.
Employers have the ability to monitor and listen to your phone calls you have with your clients
and customers and they can obtain a record of the phone calls you make. If you wear a headset,
your conversations with your coworkers could be monitored. Employers could have apps on your
mobile device that monitors your text messages, email, location, web

Police Officers And Police Officer
There is enough evidence to show that police officers are using an excess of force, and in some
occasions, lethal force in their daily routine. It is now normal for people to get scared when they
are in the presence of a police officer. It is not a coincidence because these police officer have
created their own reputation. Recent incidents involving policeofficers shooting innocent people
are raising doubts about how police officers are trained, and the credibility in the Unites States
Justice System. Ginger Otis in Police Still Have a License To Kill , a Year After Eric Garner Was
Choked to Death, Says His Mother, shows many controversial cases such as Eric Garner s case
where he was choked to death by a police officerin New York city. Also, Michael Brown an
unarmed black teen that was shot to death in Ferguson, MO, or Tamir Rice a 12 year old boy
that was playing with a toy gun in Cleveland, and several others. Also, it includes the decisions
of the Grand jury on some of the cases where only two officers were charged. The discomfort of
the community became present and they started movements like Hands Up, Don t Shoot in the
Brown s case and I Can t Breath in the Garner s case. Unfortunately, this issue has not stopped,
and people still get hurt by police officers. Decisions of the Grand jury are putting in danger the
credibility of the United States System Justice. Garner s mother stated, It doesn t matter if you

Revenge Tragedy In Hamlet
The most common approach is revenge tragedy. Revenge tragedy is the act of a character feeling
the need for revenge. The character does achieve the goal of revenge, but typically causes a
tragedy by dying himself or causing other to die in the process. Hamlet goes through his own
internal conflict and takes a long time to avenge his father s murder. Glyn Austen provides a view
that Hamlets revenge is more orchestrated by his enemies than by himself. (Glyn 1) This argument
is supported through many parts of the play. Through Hamlet s soliloquies, the audience can
conclude that Hamlet is torn by his mission. Although he clearly wants Claudius dead, he is
constantly hesitant about his future actions. Even when he has adequate proof that his uncle did
murder his father, it s almost as though Hamlet does not want to go through with it. Also presented
is the notion that Hamlet avenged the actions against himself rather than the murder of his father.
(Glyn 1) When Hamlet killed Claudius, Laertes had already poisoned him with the tip of his blade,
and Gertrude was already poisoned by the wine as well. So, if anything, Hamlet avenged the actions
against his mother and himself rather than the murder of his father. The second common approach
is psychological. The psychological approach considers the character s, or author s, mind to attempt
to gain a further understanding of the piece. Throughout the play, the ghostof Hamlet s father
appears. This apparition convinces Hamlet

overstock rooms. There are so many products stocked back there, it can be very tough some days to
help a customer find what they are looking for. Also, the other problem is that the employee does
not know if the product is in the back room before even spending the time looking. The issue at

The current major system already used by Kohl s is their specialized inventory system they
currently have on their customer service computer. The new inventory control systemwill work
with this old one, but will have many new up to the minute features. With the current system, if a
customer asks an employee about inventory, that employee directs them to customer service
desk to look it up on a computer. There is only one computer in the back of the store and usually
one employee working, so the customer usually ends up waiting, at times too long. The part of
the new inventory system that would be compatible with the current system will be the systems
used by Kohl s stores that allow them to see each other s inventory. The current system only
shows if they have the product and how many are left in any Kohl s store. This system is only
updated every 24 48 hours, which can be too long of a delay to help the customers at times. The
new system would be updated after every purchase and also keep track of which part of the store
the product is in, whether it the product is on the floor or in the back room. The new system
would also have a computer in each department for the convenience of the workers and customers.
This will prevent a worker from needing to run all the way to the back room and search while the
customer is waiting, and also prevent them from having to send the customer to the back of store to
ask customer service about their product. Kohl s uses a

  • 2. Examples Of Desserts 1 INTRODUCTION Caitlin Hines discusses in her research Rebaking the Pie: The Woman as Dessert Metaphor that there is a consistent, widespread, generally unconscious and undocumented metaphor in English equating women as sex objects with desserts (Hines 1999: 145). Women as dessert metaphor functions both in linguistic expressions, such as tart and cookie, and in customs, for example women jumping out of cakes (ibid: 145). Hines argues that the woman as dessert metaphor reduces women to objects, sexualizes and belittles women, making women seem like powerless, inanimate objects. Moreover, she makes a point that women are not just objects, but sweet, and not just desserts, but pieces or slices. She uses Sally McConnell Ginet s theory that ... Moreover, in the example 4, blowing candles out could be a metaphor for an orgasm. Unlike Trey Songz and Rihanna s songs, Melanie Martinez s Milk and Cookies does not have any sexual allusions. However, it still depicts the use of the woman as dessert metaphor: (5)I m fucking crazy, need my prescription filled Do you like my cookies? They re made just for you A little bit of sugar, but lots of poison, too (Martinez 2015b) As Caitlin Hines defines in her research, the woman as dessert metaphor reduces women to sinful and decadent (1999: 148), which is shown in the example 5. In the example, the female singer is offering her poisonous cookies to the receiver, making a connection with women and cookies. The example could be interpreted in an abstract sense. The singer is sweet with a little bit of sugar , but also sinful: but lots of poison, too . R. Kelly s Cookie is filled with sexual allusions and is a metaphor for sex: (6)You gon wanna claim this dick, fuck with a nigga Mmm, like an Oreo I love to lick the middle like an Oreo (turn ... • 3. Thanksgiving Is A Holiday Of Many Interpretations Essay It is no secret that Thanksgiving is a holiday of many interpretations. Depending on which interest group is being asked, this day of observance can be accompanied by negative or positive connotations. According to its Google definition, Thanksgiving is an annual national holiday marked by religious observances and a traditional meal including turkey. Thanksgiving, as described in textbooks across the country, is a national holiday which came to be in Plymouth, Massachusetts during the year of 1621. In its prime, Thanksgiving has been described as a three day festival of eating, hunting, and other entertainment in honor of the pilgrims first successful harvest, (History). What history textbooks around the world do not tell you is that these are only miniscule details regarding what the holiday actually commemorates. According to numerous sources, Thanksgiving has been given a negative reputation for laying the foundation of Native American suffering. A short film published by WatchCut on Youtube explores fifteen Native Americans and their one worded responses to Thanksgiving . Some of their answers include sadness , lies , inaccuracy , and colonization , though some voice that when they hear the word Thanksgiving , they think about family , football and thankfulness . Oedipa Mass In Thomas Pynchon s The Crying Of Lot 49 An illicit underground mail service, ran by highly trained assassins that originated in sixteenth century Europe and is still thriving in twentieth century America, obviously the story created by an insane person, yet Oedipa Mass, of Thomas Pynchon s The Crying of Lot 49, has made her life devoted to unearthing this seemingly impossible gang in the 1960 s. Named co executor of the will of an eccentric wealthy ex boyfriend, Peirce Inverarity, Oedipa is told about a rare stamp collection owned by Inverarity that was comprised of fakes, all with similar water marks, symbols and inconsistencies that Oedipa eventually concludes must belong to an elaborate illegal mailing service named W.A.S.T.E. and further attempts to convince herself that this service is controlled by a murderous group known only as Tristero. To prove the existence of such a group, Oedipa runs through a rather elaborate internal appeal to logos to prove to herself through reason, logic, and facts that the Tristero exists. While she does collect evidence and testimonies that suggest to the groups activates, Oedipa s major support to the group s current state is deduced logically to remove any chance of some other possibility existing about Tristero s doings. Though the conclusion of a deduction is meant to be infallible, Oedipa purposefully makes errors in the establishment of many of the premises required to make any sound conclusion. • 5. Ph Lab Name: Amra Aliyu Lab partner: Jamie Liang Lab: pH At The UN Course: Chem 106 Date: 7/11/2015 INTRODUCTION pH is a scale that is used to determine the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. A solution with a pH less than 7 is considered acidic and a solution with a pH of more than 7 is considered basic. In the first part of this lab we had to make several solutions and using a litmus paper deduce it s pH number, this is done by analyzing its color, and determine if the solution is acidic or basic. In the second part we had put a basic solution into several solutions to see if it would have an effect on its pH. After weighing out the calculated mass, we then proceeded to place the solid into a clean beaker and then added 50mL of deionized water using a graduated cylinder. The solution remained clear as the solid dissolved via mixing and swirling, and we were certain that we had added the right amounts of solid and water, because when we tested the pH value of the solution via a pH strip, we got a pH value of 8 due to the strip

In terms of nuclear power, the journey is still ensuing. Has progress been made? Yes. Have policies been formulated? Yes. Has a vast deal of information been researched? Yes. And yet, the learning continues, and it will be a never ending process that depends upon harnessing, refining, and innovating nuclear energy and technology. As the old age adage goes, however, with this learning comes knowledge, and knowledge is power. Each chapter, moreover, follows the outline of wishes : in the first chapter, we (the audience and the narrator collectively), wish for power. In the second, we wish for food and health. In the third, we wish for the atom to be our friend. This concept of friendship, intertwined with the childhood fantasy of making wishes come true, makes the text more relatable and thereby more understandable to young audiences (Haber). The prospect of an intended audience is pertinent due to the policy perspective Haber and Disney are trying to convey. In fact, Our Friend the Atom is merely a method for indoctrination in terms of soothing the public after the event of the nuclear bombings. The text describes an end to poverty, world hunger, and a chance for peace by embracing the power of the atom; it does so by presenting a historical context of the atom, an analogous overview of the problem, and then describing the benefits of atomic ... Jefferson December 29, 2006 by Ando hamjeff.jpg I had intended to post Part II of the WWI question last night, but got caught up doing movie reviews on Life of Ando. So to slake your ravenous historical thirst in the meantime, here is my assignment from my history class this past week. If you re really into American history and how the politics of the early Republic shook out, Jefferson vs. Hamilton is a great study. It s also a little, I guess comforting, to know that as bad as we think today s politicians are, politics was always a very dirty game. Like Bismarck said, Laws are like sausages. Each viewpoint needed the other to create a government that would be strong enough to protect itself and it s people from internal and external strife, but not so strong that it would infringe on the rights of the people as enumerated in the Bill of Rights and in the Revolutionary spirit. These issues, of course, weren t resolved or ceased to be relevant after Hamilton and Jefferson left the scene. These are still very much the issues we deal with even now, over 200 years later. As much as we might dislike, or even hate, the position of the other party, without some balance both sides would undoubtedly abuse their power...more than they already do. 4) List at least 3 sources in proper bibliographic format. • 14. Mongol Dbq Essay I believe the mongols were barbaric and don t deserve to have the scale tip in their favor. In the first slide it says the streets were filled with human flesh and fat, from women, children, and adults regardless if they were a combatant or not. Another example would be the city of Riazan, it was razed to the ground and it s inhabitants were all massacred, only a few were left alive to spread the message. It s widely known that if you refused to surrender then the whole city would be massacred and raised to the ground. (Doc1 3) Doc 1 3 talks about how the Mongol army was just more than a ragtag horde of calvary. They had discipline and often implemented psychological warfare into their tactics, I.E. attacking a city non stop so the defenders get no sleep or raising a city to the ground to send a message. When it comes to polygamy there are even more variables added to the equation since there are additional partners involved in the relationship. Unlike the common belief that polygamyis where a man has multiple wives, it is actually much more in depth where both sexes can have other romantic partners. As long as one lets their partner know who they are seeing the relationship is considered healthy, although there is still the obvious possibility of jealousy occurring. In the United States it is illegal to be in an any of the three forms of polygamy if one is married. In the early days Mormons were even persecuted if they were found practicing polygamy. In a society that is constantly progressing towards giving people their rights, polygamist still struggle in being viewed as a legitimate way of life. With the gay rights movement having so much momentum and finally becoming legal in the United States, polygamist thought the outcome could soon be the same for them. The one major argument against polygamy is that it is a choice unlike the predetermination of one s sexual orientation. Critics suggest that individuals should just be single instead of engaging in a relationship where they are not faithful to one person. Although it is not certain where the future of polygamy is headed, the controversial lifestyle is growing in popularity as more people explore their sexual and emotional identities. There is no doubt that as time goes on new generations develop different attitudes than their parents which in turn shapes the modern world we live in. As far as marriages go, people are no longer in such rush to get married, have children, and start the typical family associated with adulthood. This in part could be because of high divorce rates that many individuals have experienced either with their parents or someone they know. Cathy Meyer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A secondary consumer in a tropical ecosystem is a jack rabbit. A tertiary consumer in a tropical ecosystem is a mountain lion. A decomposer in a tropical ecosystem is mushrooms, fungi and moss. The predator is the Mountain Lion. The prey is the deer. So the predator and prey relationship is between the mountain lion and the deer. The predator which is the mountain lion hunts for the deer to survive and feed off. The mountain lion is a carnivore and is one of the few at the top of this tropical food chain. • 19. Disparities of the Death Penalty disparity of application (gender, race) 1. Disparity of application of the death penalty is a researched and heavily discussed topic. There is no disparity applied to the death penalty due to race. Many individuals believe that discrimination against minorities directly contributes to the amount of offenders on death row that are African American, Hispanic, or part of a different minority group. These trends exist for a reason, however I believe the reason is due to the fact that individuals strive to meet different goals dependent on their racial background. Currently, approximately 41 % of inmates on death row are black, and 44 % are white. There are more inmates who are white on death row, which makes it hard to determine that disparity was applied based on race or gender when individuals are faced with a death penalty sentence. There are far less women on death row. There are not many women on death row because the death penalty is not often applied to their cases. However, this is not due to their gender, it is based on the crimes that were committed and typically women commit less violent crimes than men. 2. Furman v. Georgia Furman v. Georgia proved that the way the death penalty was administered was unconstitutional. William Furman was apprehended while he was found robbing a sleeping individual s home. • 20. A Research On Pedestrian Detection The four papers about pedestrian detection we chose to summarize were great and informative, all suggested useful techniques and new ideas in deep learning for pedestrian detection. However, there were few open issues or room for improvement in some of the papers. Here are some of the ideas we suggested to resolve these issues in each paper. Joint Deep Learning for Pedestrian Detection (UDN) Even though the Unified Deep Net (UDN) method learned features by designing hidden layers for the Convolutional Neural Network such that features, deformable parts, occlusions, and classification can be jointly optimized, one of its problems is it treats pedestrian detection as a single binary classification task, which is not able to capture rich pedestrian variations. For example, the method is not able to distinguish pedestrians from hard negatives due to their visual similarities. This problem can be resolved by jointly optimizing pedestrian detection with auxiliary semantic tasks, such as including pedestrian attributes and scene attributes, which was represented in our previous report. Another problem with the UDN method is it did not explicitly model mixture of templates for each body parts, and did not depress the influence of background clutters. Thus, the method could be improved by explicitly model the complex mixture of visual appearance at multiple levels. For example, some extra layers can be added into the hierarchy of the UDN, so that at each feature level, this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Essay On Starve Or Kill A Lifeboat To Starve or Kill in a Lifeboat Webster s dictionary defines utilitarianism as a doctrine that the useful is the good and that the determining consideration of right conduct should be the usefulness of its consequences (Merriam Webster). This doctrine is used in cases when trying to decide whether an issue is morally acceptable or not. In the case of the sailors stranded in a lifeboat at sea, the question raised is whether or not the men were morally corrupt by killing the cabin boy. There are two basic approaches used to determine the outcome of this case. The first has to do with deciding if the benefits of killing a person outweigh the costs (Sandel 32). The second approach says that consequences are not the only factor to consider because some moral duties and rights are more important (Sandel 33). Suppose you were the judge, assume that you were asked to decide whether killing the cabin boy was morally permissible, how would you rule (Sandel 32)? Four English sailors became stranded at sea and were stuck in a lifeboat for 24 days. The youngest of the four, named Parker, was only seventeen. He was an orphan who had become a cabin boy. He became ill when he drank seawater and began to show signs of death (Sandel 31). On the twentieth day one of the men decided that the cabin boy had to be killed. Hitler s View Of The Jewish People Essay From 1939 to 1945 the world saw actions and atrocities unparalleled in the War against Germany, the legacies of such actions we are still seeing today. Perhaps the most notable atrocity that was born from this war was the persecution of Jewish people in Germany and around Europe and the corresponding murder of up to 6 million Jewish people . When Adolf Hitlers National Socialist party seized power on January 30, 1933, there were approximately 525,000 Jewish people living in Germany, less than one percent of the population. Throughout the years leading up to the official start of World War Two the Jewish people were treated harshly and condemned for no other reason than the fact that they were Jewish, in 1935 the Nuremberg laws furthered this condemnation by defining what it meant to be a Jew, deprived Jewsof German citizenship and legally prohibited them from a variety of occupations. Families were split apart and many families fled as far as they could have from the horrors of a country they once called home. Hitler s view of the Jewish people is highlighted in his publication Mein Kampf : A Jew is and remains a typical parasite, a sponger who like a noxious bacillus keeps spreading as soon as a favorable medium invites him. All events and lives are under control of the AI, and all things serve the AI s purpose. In fact, practising retrieval has a larger effect on memory than revising the information (Hockley, 2009). Another factor that influences the quality of retrieved information is the way one studied the material. As such, material that was studied over a number of sessions and contexts has more chance of being retrieved correctly after a period of time than the material that has been studied over one long session (Bjork, 2001). The spacing between the sessions should not be too big or too little, as in case it is too big the person might simply forget the material he already studied, and in case it is too little the spacing effect would not work. Overall, spacing is important for long term retention, whilst cramming over one long session works for short term memory. Another thing that matters is the information ... Directed by Gary Ross, The Hunger Games is a movie about 24 tributes fighting to the death for the Hunger Games crown and freedom from ever having to physically fight in the arena again. It is a game of violence, ferocity, and blood, and only one tribute can win. Even though stories often have a Battle between Good and Evil, it is Katniss s internal conflict confronting her own good and evil that portrays humanity with a longing for destruction, violent inclination, and sense of separation. When one loves a person or something dearly, then they have the tendency to do almost anything they can to protect and save them from whatever harm they come across. The Bishop will look into this person s life and decide whether or not to pass this person on to the next step to the Pope. If he does a couple of theologians will look more deeply into this person s life and evaluate the person. People who are martyrs will automatically become a saint because they should amazing faith and holiness. Many of the first saints were martyrs because they were persecuting Christians in the time of Jesus and a long time after the ascension. Age Related Changes That Occur in the Cardiovascular System Age Related Changes that Occur in the Cardiovascular System Age Related Changes that Occur in the Cardiovascular System In the normal conduction of the heart the electrical impulse starts in the SA node, also called the pacemaker of the heart. The electrical impulse travels through the right atrium and through the Bachmann s bundle into the left atrium. This stimulates the atria to contract. Next the signal travel to the AV node. The AV node slightly delays the signal. This delay is needed for the heart to beat properly. Without this delay the atria and ventricles would beat at the same time. Some causes of CHF would include, narrowed arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle coronary artery disease, past heart attack, or myocardial infarction, with scar tissue that interferes with the heart muscle s normal work, high blood pressure, heart valve disease, primary disease of the heart muscle itself, called cardiomyopathy. High blood pressure is the leading cause of CHF in the elderly. High blood bressure put high demands on the heart to pump blood. Anheuser Busch refers to this process as a secondary fermentation, with the idea being that the chips give the yeast more surface area to rest on. This is also combined with a procedure that re introduces wort into the chip tank therefore activating the fermentation process again. By placing chips at the bottom of the tank, the yeast remains in suspension longer, giving it more time to reabsorb and process green beer flavors that Anheuser Busch believes are off flavors which detract from overall drinkability. • 55. Revenge Tragedy In Hamlet The most common approach is revenge tragedy. Revenge tragedy is the act of a character feeling the need for revenge. The character does achieve the goal of revenge, but typically causes a tragedy by dying himself or causing other to die in the process. Hamlet goes through his own internal conflict and takes a long time to avenge his father s murder. Glyn Austen provides a view that Hamlets revenge is more orchestrated by his enemies than by himself. (Glyn 1) This argument is supported through many parts of the play. Through Hamlet s soliloquies, the audience can conclude that Hamlet is torn by his mission. Although he clearly wants Claudius dead, he is constantly hesitant about his future actions. Even when he has adequate proof that his uncle did murder his father, it s almost as though Hamlet does not want to go through with it. Also presented is the notion that Hamlet avenged the actions against himself rather than the murder of his father. (Glyn 1) When Hamlet killed Claudius, Laertes had already poisoned him with the tip of his blade, and Gertrude was already poisoned by the wine as well. So, if anything, Hamlet avenged the actions against his mother and himself rather than the murder of his father. The second common approach is psychological. The psychological approach considers the character s, or author s, mind to attempt to gain a further understanding of the piece. Throughout the play, the ghostof Hamlet s father appears.
