5. Women and the 1st Century Jesus Movement Essay
There are no known writings that chronicle the life of Jesus or his teachings during
his lifetime; rather there is an accumulation of written sources that arose decades
after his death (Seat 8/25). Originally, Jesus teachings were passed down orally, but
eventually, Christians began to write down the oral traditions decades later after his
death, specifically after the destruction of the Jewish Temple in 70CE (Seat 8/25). As
a result, it is important to note that there is a time discrepancy. Jesusdied in 30 CE,
but it was not until 70CE that Christians began to write down his teachings; therefore,
this time difference has led to different interpretations of his teachings (Seat 9/1). As
highlighted by Barbara MacHaffe it is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These women followed him, and ministered to him in Galilee (NRSV, Mark 15: 40
41). Thurston explains that to follow is a technical term for discipleship throughout
the Gospel and she also explains that ministered is best translated to provided or
served (Thurston 69). Therefore, Jesus male disciples followed him and were
expected to minister, actions which were also carried out by the women as depicted
in the Gospel of Mark (i.e. Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses,
etc). From this explanation, one can conclude that women in the 1st century Jesus
movement assisted Jesus in his mission to spread Christianity.
It is also important to note, that the women in the Gospel of Mark, unlike Jesus male
disciples, understand Jesus significance. For instance, in Mark 14:3 9, an anonymous
woman anoints Jesus head with an expensive oil, and in response the people at the
dinner table criticize her action. In this case, Thurston contends that the anointment
foreshadows Jesus death and that more importantly the anonymous woman
comprehends that Jesus is the crucified Messiah (Thurston 75). This demonstrates
that women in the 1st century Jesus movement understood who Jesus was, which
explains why they displayed unyielding faith. The males on the other hand are

Why Leaders Must Excel at Giving and Receiving Feedback
MBA 510 Managament Skills Portfolio
Ben Elbert

August 27, 2015
Whether a leader defines success as career progression, sphere of influence, or the
continual improvement of their management skills, there is one singular fact that all
leaders must grasp in order to be effective and impactful: they have to become great
providers and receivers of feedback. To grow in one?s ability to give and receive
feedback, one ought to begin with learning to receive feedback well by recognizing ...

(Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 109) of the feedback they have received. Becoming an
effective leader requires hard work, passion, and the mastery of human relation
skills that make the providing and receiving of feedback easier and more
meaningful. The road to receiving feedback well is a continuous highway whose
only mile markers are the progress beyond being beholden to the three triggers
identified in Stone?s and Heen?s article, Difficult Conversations 2.0. Truth triggers
are an emotional response where the recipient chooses to ?focus on what s wrong
with the feedback? (Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 72). This decision to reject feedback
simply because part of it is incorrect?or perceived to be incorrect?prohibits a person
from evaluating the fit of the feedback and acting on the applicable, useful parts.
Overcoming an evocation of a truth trigger requires the receiver to ?dig under the
label? (Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 72) and seek more concrete and definitive
examples to better understand the feedback. Per Stone and Heen (2014), a
relationship trigger comes about when the recipient focuses on who is delivering the
feedback rather than what is being said. The relationship trigger tends to arise when
the receiver believes the giver either does not have the proper level of insight to give
the feedback or they distrust the motives and authority of the deliverer (Stone and
Heen, 2014, p. 73).
7. Reflection Of A Homecoming Service
September 10, 2017, was the annual homecoming service at Morgantown First
Church of the Nazarene in Morgantown, Kentucky, followed by a fellowship meal.
The meal was a combination of store bought foods, simple traditional dishes like
macaroni and cheese, and special homemade dishes. Two old ping pong tables that
once served as the main food table have been replaced by white plastic tables, and
this year, the tables were even ornamented with a centerpiece to match the other
tables in the fellowship hall. The line starts on the right hand table, so people can
walk around the table to fill their plates and grab drinks before filing into the hall.
Meat is always placed first, followed by sides and casseroles before bread and
deviled eggs at the end of the procession. IGA fried chicken (wings, breasts,
drumsticks) supplied by the church and ham cooked by the pastor s husband sat
beside Elaine Johnson s homemade fried chicken tenders, which are always gone the
fastest. Homemade sides included dressing, green bean casserole, cream style corn,
pinto beans, broccoli cheese casserole, egg salad, and biscuits.
Other sides, that I refer to as simple, are recipes followed by the recipe that anyone
could fix. These taste relatively the same no matter who cooks them whereas the
homemade dishes can only be made and brought by certain people, and no one else
can prepare them exactly or as well as the original. The simple sides included honey

9. The Death Of Terminally Ill
As Americans, we are granted rights in this country and these rights, according to
the Declaration of Independence, grant us Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of
Happiness . So tell me why someone that is terminally ill cannot use these rights to
end their life of pain and suffering. Some states have rallied and given those who
are terminally ill the right to die. However, some simply see this means of ending a
life, inhumane, unethical, immoral, and just plain wrong. As a citizen of the United
States where we simply have our rights, should we not be granted the right to die? A
big controversy on the news in the United States is having the right to die. People see
this as something wrong due to various cultural and religious beliefs. This means of
having the right to die is simply termed assisted suicide or human euthanasia. Only a
few states have legalized assisted suicide by means of the Deathwith Dignity Act.
The four states that assisted suicide is legal in is: California, Oregon, Vermont, and
Washington. However, in order to take act in assisted suicide there are terms and
conditions by each state that must be met. A little history into the practice of

There was a public inquiry in 2000 to address the failure of the law which was not
upholding the protection of vulnerable children. There was changes to the legislation
and the government set up The Every Child Maters (ECM) initiative. This works in
line with current legislation Working Together to Safeguard Children 2006 Act. This

11. Causes Of The Los Angeles Riots
The twentieth century brought with it many conflicts, such as both World Wars, the
Great Depression, and civil unrest, the latter of which its effects can still be seen
today. The Civil Rights Movement of the sixties, paved the way for more
demonstrations during the last quarter of the twentieth century. One of the greatest of
these demonstrations was the Los AngelesRiots (commonly known as the Rodney
KingRiots) of nineteen ninety two. The Civil Rights Movement had a goal, which
was to end segregation and discrimination of African Americans, and to try to
improve the wellbeing by integrating both communities. This movement had led to
many others, both peaceful and violent. However, the goal between them all was the
same. There has been many conflicts in the past between African Americans and the
Anglo community, where most were caused due to the discrimination or taking out
the anger they had after seeing themselves being treated a certain way.
Before the riots, racial tensions had already risen. There was lots of gang related
activity and crime in the poor communities of Los Angeles, where many were
unemployed. These communities were common to drug sweeps, where more than
eighty officers tore apart a pair of apartment buildings, leaving dozens homeless

12. Artificial Intelligence Argument Essay
Artificial Intelligence is undoubtedly a hotly debated topic in today s society, with
many concerned that it will soon enslave humanity and others saying that it s
harmless and only here to help us. Many sci fi movies, such as the infamous 1984
film produced by James Cameron, The Terminator, portray robots as becoming
knowledgeable and taking over the world. Humanity creates an artificially intelligent
program known as Skynet, which becomes completely cognizant and overthrows the
world by initiating a nuclear holocaust. In the aftermath, a group of survivors creates
a resistance that attempts to destroy the program, however they are met with the
challenge of defeating Skynet s cyborg army. Skynet sends a terminator, played by

Nick Bostrom, a philosopher and the University of Oxford, states that,
...superintelligence could emerge, and while it could be great [...] it could also
decide it doesn t need humans around (Ford). This philosopher, like many other
technology critics, can see the effects that artificial intelligence may have on our
future, however there is always the select group of people who cannot foresee the
consequences of their actions. For example, Victor Frankenstein was introduced to
science at a young age and when he went to college at Ingolstadt he met Professor
Waldman shared a similar scientific interest. Waldman proclaimed, If your wish is
to become really a man of science [...] I should advise you to apply to every branch
of natural philosophy... much like how Waldman himself devotes his life to all
branches of science (Shelley 29). However, this sparked Victor s interested and
caused him to not immediately realize the ramifications of his attempts to bring the
dead back to life, which lead to the death of Victor s loved ones and the destruction of
his world. The entire human race in The Terminator closely resembles Victor
Frankenstein considering that humans create the superintelligent program, Skynet,
which is supposed solely defend the nation s cyber network, however it ends up
taking over the world. This is extremely similar to Victor s situation, in which both he
and humanity neglect

In addition, enhanced survivability and both strategic and operational
transportability by sea and air are also crucial for the JLTV project requirements.
The primary mission of the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) is to provide
protected, sustained, and networked light tactical mobility to the Joint forces, capable
of worldwide deployment across the full spectrum of military operations and mission
profiles under all weather and terrain conditions.
In addition, it has been designed that the JLTV would support C3 in both immobile
and mobile modes, various wider ranges in complex and dynamic operational
environments.
Nevertheless, initial concept composed of three variants based on different payload
capabilities, four passenger Combat Tactical Vehicle (CTV) and a two passenger
Combat Support Vehicle (CSV) variants were survived as a final choice. The Joint
Requirements Oversight Council (JROC) of the DoD that provides a close oversight
to joint acquisition programs and makes recommendations to the Defense Acquisition
Board has approved the JLTV program which would be led by the Army in November
2006.
It was notable that, even though, joint Army/Marine Corps had intended to issue a
Request for Proposal (RFP) for Technology Development Phase by October 2007, the
Pentagon s acquisition executive, John Young disapproved the issuance of the RFP
due to deep concern on funding adequacy, technical maturity, and shifting
requirements.

they are realistic and how they will follow through, the choices it offers it customers

able to define its customer service business model.

In order to make a realistic promise the company must know what the customer
expects and its limitations with providing that level of service or if that is unrealistic
request. The company must communicate with the customer on what their
expectations are, so that the company could then evaluate if that is a feasible feat
for the company to achieve, or if the expectations of the customer are unrealistic.
The higher the level of expectation the customer brings, will determine their
personal evaluation of service (Zeithaml, Bitner, Gremler, 2013, p 429); and the
higher level of service quality they expect to received. In order for the customer to
believe they received high quality of service their expectations must be met. In
pursuance of fulfilling the customer expectation of service received the customer
must be afforded options or choices related to the service received.
Offer Choices Offering choices to customers, gives the customer more belief that
they have control of the level of service they will receive, and that, that level of
service will be met. With a parcel shipping company, the higher the price the more
the customer will expects to have their level of service achieved. In marketing,
customers relate time/money and speed/quality; if a customer perceives that they are

The Failure of the American Dream The American Dream; a reality chased by

Dream, shared by many others, resulted in the failure of the real American Dream, a
reality where one can live comfortably and safely. Instead, the American Dream

This quote perfectly summarizes the American Dream as no one can be perfect,
and to strive for perfection will always result in failure. F. Scott Fitzgerald was not
satisfied with the glamor he already had in college, he desired more, but it was this
desire for more that resulted in a heartbreak that ultimately ended his college life.
Fitzgerald s success came along with the roaring 20s, also known as the Jazz age. His
fame and fortune skyrocketed during this era with his first novel, This Side of
Paradise being a hit. However, the lifestyle of the rich and famous during the Jazz
age would prove to provide an insurmountable heartbreak. Fitzgerald claims that the
Jazz Age flattered him and gave him more money than he had dreamed of (qtd. In
Broken Dreams 42). With this new fame and money, he began living very
recklessly. He threw extravagant parties and rode on the roofs of taxi cabs and
jumped into fountains... and got drunk at countless parties. Fitzgerald said, I had
everything I wanted and knew I would never be so happy again. (QUOTE). He
finally had a taste of the glamor of the American Dream, and he absolutely loved it.
However, this lifestyle was expensive, one that Fitzgerald, even with all his money
could not afford. He lived so irresponsibly that he was often in debt. He wanted more
of this lifestyle, but it was the lifestyle of the American Dream that eventually lead
him away from the American Dream. He began chasing the American Dream just so

First released on 18 January 2014 at Sundance Film Festival,, Love is Strange is

Love Is Strange shows audiences the love between two old men could be so
simple, just like love between a man and a woman. Likewise, Ben and George look
like two kids, and nothing is more important for them than being able to living
together. The film is focus on normal life of two old men. Few of studio films want
to talk about life trivia, which studio are not interested in. But we can see it is some
trivial and real matters that affect audiences and their emotion. It is interesting too.
Foe instance, Ben interrupts Kate when she is writing, and Kate asks Ben why he

you. I brought all my stuff here, but...Well...it s just that I can t really work if there s

cannot concentrate because he is around?

Biography of Wyatt Earp
Wyatt Earp, born Wyatt Berry Stapp Earp, was born on March 19, 1848 in
Manmouth, Illinois to Nicholas and Virginia Earp. When Wyatt was two, his
parents moved him across the Mississippi River to Pella, Iowa. He was considered
a great western lawman. His first experience as a lawman was as a constable of
Lamar, Missouri for four months in the year 1870. In April, 1875, he was
appointed to the Wichita Kansas police force only to be released from that job on
April 2, 1876 for insubordination. After that, Wyatt moved to Dodge City, Kansas
where he served as a police man three separate times. The first time he served from
May 17 until September 9, 1876; the second time he served was from July 6 until ...

A very historical event occurred soon after Wyatt took the detective job with
Wells, Fargo Company; the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. This event is very
controversial even today. According to the name of the event, the shutout occurred
in the back entrance of the O.K. Corral. Yet, according to the research that I have
done, the shootout actually occurred about half a block over from the O.K. Corral
in the side yard of ex mayor William A. Harwood and from there it spread out into
the middle of Fremont
Street. Of course, the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral sounds much better than the
Gunfight in Harwood s Yard and Fremont Street so I guess someone decided to
change it. O.K. Corral has much more of a Western ring to it. Personally, I think the
Gunfight in Tombstone sounds pretty good, but there s no point trying to change it
now.
Virgil, Wyatt s older brother, was Tombstone s city marshal at the time of the
shootout.
He was also a deputy U.S. marshal. At the time of the gunfight, Wyatt considered
himself a saloonkeeper, since he had a piece of the gambling winnings at the Oriental

also some of the Old West s best known villains . The three Earp brothers; Virgil,
Wyatt and

Karl Popper became a popular philosopher in the twentieth century, known for his
emphasis on empirical falsification while studying the social sciences. He rejected
previously popular views from the prewar era, namely Historicism, which focuses
on only historical evidence in the observation of political and social events. In his
book, Popper Selections, Popper vehemently opposes ideas such as historicism,
collectivism, utopian principles, and the Marxian ideology. Popper s emphasis on
empirical falsification provides us the basis as to why he believes democracy proves
to be essential to a state. His emphasis on individualism, piece meal social

He asserts, there cannot, of course, be any rational discussion in a school of this
kind (Popper 1985). Popper then places emphasis on the importance on the rise of
tradition, meaning a tradition in places of learning that encourages critical discussion
and new ideas, perhaps even rewards them. Not only does Popper maintain that this
rise of criticism is important, he also states that those being criticized should be
tolerant of dissenting view points and seek to understand the opposition rather than
rejecting it. Furthermore, Popper states, the rationalist tradition, the tradition of
critical discussion, represents the only practicable way of expanding our knowledge
(Popper 1985). These ideas of critical discussion and critical rationalism essentially
serve as the thesis to Popper s theory. Popper s reliance on the testability,
falsifiability, scientific methodology and accumulating data and theories serve as the
main components of Popperism. The Popperian ideology seems to be directly in
opposition to historicism. Popper defines historicism as an approach to the social
sciences which assumes that historical prediction is their principal aim, and which
that assumes that this aim is attainable by discovering the rhythms or the patterns, the
laws or the trends that underlie the evolution of history (Popper

26. The Dream Of The Rood
The Dream of the Rood is by an unknown, Anglo Saxon, author. This ancient poem is
about Jesus being crucified through the cross point of view. Although this poem is
about Jesus death, it does not exactly match up with what the Bible has depicted in
the Gospels of the New Testament. There is a culture clash between the Anglo Saxon
culture and beliefs and what the Bible thinks of Jesusduring his crucifixion. In this
poem the author expresses Christ as strong, heroic, and bold, but the Bible states that
he was humble, passive, and weak. Contrary to what the Bible says, The Dream of
the Rood proclaims that Christ felt no pain, the crossdid. These are only a few
examples of the differences between the Bible s take on this story versus the
unknown author. This piece of literature is so highly regarded, even today, because
of the culture clash it displays. The story of the crucifixion of JesusChrist had only
been written down in the Bible. To see this story being transformed into how a newer
culture interpreted the story had never been heard of up until this point in history.
This shows how time and different cultures can change stories and belief systems....

ethics facing a selected business in its different areas of activity. I have then been
asked to assess these social implications of business ethics.
The business organisation I have chosen for this assignment is Boots .

an impact on society as a whole. These could be ethical practises or unethical
practises.
There are many different social implications a business might have, these social
implications are highlighted by the way a business will chose to operate. The
different social implications a business might have are related to different areas or

29. Tips On Choosing A Wordpress Theme
Tips on Choosing a WordPress Theme Choose Your Layout
When you sit down to construct your first WordPress website or blog you have a
very big decision to make immediately, and that s choosing a theme. This is probably
the first thing you will do after you install the software, and its major because your
theme, or layout, is the first thing your readers will see. Your theme represents you,
and your goal is to make it as appealing as possible.
People will make an instant judgement as to the quality and value of your website
as soon as they land on your home page. Your header image should relay the
message and purpose of your website. Your navigation bar should be user intuitive,
and the color scheme should be soft and warm so you don t scare people off.
All of this is made easy if you have chosen the best possible theme for your product
or service. Lets learn a little about themes and then take a look at some tips on
choosing your best possible WordPress theme.
Look And Feel
Keep in mind that themes are simply the look , and to some degree, feel of your
website. Your theme is like the outside of your house; what people see first. It can
have nice window dressing, pretty colors, fancy decorative brick and an overall
pleasant appeal. If people like what they see they will enter, or (click) around and
stay for a visit. This is what you want to keep your visitors in the house. And, it all
starts by having the right theme.
So start with an appealing theme and combine
30. Harriet Beecher Stowe s Story
Harriet Beecher Stowe s story clearly had the intentions of persuading the
southerner s view of slavery. She often humanized her characters, so they weren t
represented as just property, that they were human too. She also showed the
contradictions may people had with their views on slavery. Lastly she gave
reasons of how these views contradicted the views of Christianity. Often in her
story she humanized her characters. At the beginning of her story when Eliza goes
to Mrs. Shelby asking her if Mr. Shelby would ever sell her boy, she describes how
Eliza was distraught. That she was distracted and crying over the thought of
loosing her child. This is something that many parents probably feared, and it
showed the audience that these salves were human too. That the felt the same
emotional pain as everyone else. Stowe again shows this type of motherly love
with her character Eliza in her part of the story when Eliza is crossing the frozen
river. She showed that she risked her own safety and the safety of her child to avoid
being separated from each other. Later on in her story she shows that there is a
picture of George Washington in Tom s cabin. This showed that Tom admired
Washington just as much as any other patriot of the United States. That he himself
was a patriot and loved his country, even though his country did not view him as a
citizen. Stowe also brings up the fact that slaves were not just grown men. That they
were mothers and children too. Most importantly

Interracial Figures of the American Renaissance
This essay examines Cora from The Last of the Mohicans, Frederick Douglass, and
Harriet Ann Jacobs. The American Renaissance marks a period of social injustice
and the fight of the minority to bring about social change. Women and African
Americans (who were freed or escaped from slavery) begin to gain a voice through
literacy, and use that voice to start the movement to abolish slavery and gain women
rights. The development of literacy makes it impossible to ignore women and
African Americans because their writing provides a permanent record of the horrors
of slavery and injustice of oppressing the minority groups. Furthermore, the gain in

The interracial figures of the American Renaissance are Cora from The Last of the
Mohicans, Frederick Douglass, and Harriet Ann Jacobs.
In James Fenimore CooperГўs novel, The Last of the Mohicans, Cora represents the
intermingling of the races and the complexity that occurs due to her interracial
heritage. Her father, Colonel Munro, describes CoraГўs identity to Duncan in the
following lines:
There it was my lot to form a connexion with one who in a time became my wife,
and the mother of Cora. She was the daughter of a gentleman of those isles, by a
lady, whose misfortune it was, if you willВ·to be descended, remotely from that
unfortunate class, who are so basely enslaved to administer to the wants of a
luxurious people! (Cooper 159)
These lines reveal the secret behind CoraГўs true heritage. Albeit Cooper addresses
the issue of interracial relations, he still maintains an element of romanticism in that
CoraГўs mother comes from a foreign land and not a slave on a plantation that
Colonel Munro owned. The context this conversation occurs in provides insight into
the complications involved in CoraГўs ethnicity. Colonel Munro reveals CoraГўs
race after Duncan has asked for her younger, half sister AliceГўs hand in marriage.
Munro assumes that Duncan chooses Alice over Cora because he has figured out
that Cora is of mixed blood. In response to what Munro perceives as prejudice he

32. The Physical Values Of Roger Federer And Ray Ban
Like Roger Federer, they are veterans in their designated field. Simply put, both
Federer and Ray Ban are timeless classics. Federer is arguably one of the most
attractive men in all of sports. Of course this highly relates to his great physical
shape and facial features, but it is also about his class, humbleness, and charm. As
mentioned in the audit chart, Federer is considered a great philanthropist as he has
helped many people around the world and even has his own foundation. In many
ways, he can be thought of as the perfect gentleman . The perfect complimenting
accessory for an attractive gentleman such as himself is a classic pair of aviator Ray
Ban sunglasses.
Of course, attractiveness is only one part of this equation. As mentioned previously,
trustworthiness may be more important for actual purchase persuasiveness. Federer s
credibility adds tremendously to his trustworthiness. He may not have won a grand
slam title in 2015 or 2016 but he was still ranked in the top 3 in the world, and has a
great tract record that has proven his ability to still compete and dominate. When
Federer chooses a brand of sunglasses to wear, consumers can be confident in his
choice. Much like Federer, Ray Ban does not have to prove the value of their
product. They have both been around for a long time, and understand what it means
to be great.
Another major reason for I would propose this sponsorship is due to Federer
apparently not currently having a sunglasses sponsor. He has some

Introduction
Prior to researching this topic, my impression of management was limited. My
concept was meshed within the framework of business and economics. Therefore, my
definition of this construct was in error. For rectification, and foundational reference,
management is the process of directing resources towards the accomplishment of a
specific goal. This definition, one that I have derived from the compilation of many,
incorporates two key variables. The first operative word in this definition is
resources. Resources can mean anything from money, employees, athletes, students,
or just about any organized effort, group or cohort. The other functional variable in
this definition is goal. The goal or aim of the organized effort can ... Show more

Also know as directive management, managers tell their subordinates what to do,
how to do it and when to have it completed by (Coye Belohlav, 1995, p 16). They
assign roles and responsibilities, set standards, and define expectations. Within this
style of management communication is one way, and go from management to
resources. For example, when the manager speaks the employee listens and reacts.
As defined above, the purpose of management is to direct resources toward a goal.
In autocratic management, the manager sets all goals with specific deadlines to
track progress. The autocratic manager is the principal of the decision making
process. When a problem arise the resources report to the manager and the manager
evaluates the options and makes the decision as to the direction and action that
should be taken (Coye Belohlav, 1995). In terms of management feedback, the
autocratic style of management calls for detailed instructions of changes that need to
be made to the final product. Any rewards and recognition bestowed by autocratic
managers are dictated by how well people follow directions.
A perfect illustration of a working application of the autocratic style of management
can be seen though the management employed in United States Military. Within the
military the ranking system sets a scene for the role of the manager. In accordance
with a strict chain of commands, members with a higher rank

State budget cuts in California have resulted in class cuts at universities and

sufficient enough to maintain decent livings. As mentioned in the New York Times,
more than sixty percent of those who graduated in the last five years say they will

California are constantly seeking a competitive edge over their peers in order to

different opinions regarding the issue. Essentially, the majority acceptance or
disproval of such abusive behavior determines whether or not the issue is a big deal

peers.
So how may a student adapt to such overly competitive environments? Through

structuralism of Wilhelm Wundt, who focused on breaking down mental events and
experiences to the smallest elements. Structuralists had failed in explaining the
concept of apparent motion and illusory contours .
Gestalt psychologists further recognized that structuralism could not explain many
perceptual phenomena. In response, they proposed that perception is based on the

They assumed that, the whole is more than its sum of its parts . This explains that
what is perceived has its own new properties that emerge from the organization that
takes place. Organization in perception partially explains our perception of complex
patterns as unitary form or objects. We see objects as objects only because grouping
processes operate in perception.
Our perceptual experiences are filled with groups and patterns of stimuli, which are
labeled as objects. The way the objects are perceived by people, comes into our
awareness as shapes and patterns. Therefore they tend to organize sensory inputs into
perception of simple patterns or objects. The reason for this is that, people do not
ordinarily perceive the world around them as patches of colour, variation in brightness
or through sounds, but perception of objects are due to learning.
Therefore, Gestalt psychologist has extensively studied the organizing tendencies in
perception. They have given meaningful existence of such tendencies to strengthen
their argument that the perceived world is not just the scene of simple sensory
experiences. The principle that helps to explain how objects are organized and
perceived includes the following:
4.1 LAW OF SIMILARITY
According to Gestalt psychology, perception is about what happens to information as
we process it, not just about the information itself. The law of

40. How Does Steinbeck Use Foreshadowing In Of Mice And
Men
Literature is difficult for some and effortless for others, but there is a type of
literature that is commonly used by many people and most use it without knowing.
It is called allusion which is the reference to another person or item. John Steinbeck
uses allusion to foreshadow what will happen in his book Of Mice and Men. In the
book Of Mice and Men the two main characters are George, a smart and short man
and Lennie, a strong but dumb man who both lived during the Great Depression. They
are migrant workers that get in trouble a lot of times and run from town to town
trying to find work, until they stumble upon a ranch that they can work on. During
their stay and the ranch foreshadowing suggests what would happen next, but the
book still had many twist that foreshadowing did not suggest. In Of Mice and Men
Steinbeck uses foreshadowing in various ways to suggest that George and Lennie s
plan would go askew, that Curley s wife would die, that George and Lennie would
lose of the farm dream, and how Lennie would die.... Show more content on

Steinbeck did this when he put the word mice in the title of the book. Steinbeck used
allusion of the poem To a Mouseby Robert Burns . In the poem To a Mouse the
mouse in the poem has plans to survive the winter but the mouse s small house in
ruin! It s feeble walls the are scattering... And bleak December s winds coming .
(Doc A). The mouse s plan to live in it s house for the winter go askew. The poem
further more states that The best laid schemes of mice and men, go often askew.
This suggests that both the plans of men and mice would go askew. Since
Steinbeck chose the word mouse or mice in the title of is novel Of Mice and Men,
what should we be able to foreshadow about the plans of the men or women in the

School Support
It is essential for educators, counselors, and school administrators to be multicultural
competent to successfully provide services to diverse students and their diverse
background (Barden Greene, 2015). Studies have reported that Hmong students
experience challenges in school when their teacher have limited knowledge or lack
interest in learning the students racial and cultural background (Thao, 2003). For this
reason, it is beneficial for educators, counselors, and school administrators to learn
about the Hmong history and its influence on ethnic, cultural values and traditions,
and linguistic identities to have a better understand of how to assist the needs of
Hmong students. Historians has argued that it is only through ... Show more content

As Hmong students entered the educational system, many Hmong students struggled
to perform well in school and had difficulty understanding the English proficiently.
Additionally, Hmong students also did not receive academic support at home because
many Hmong parents had no formal education, thus they are unable to help their
children. The review of the literature also revealed that adjusting to the American
culture while trying to preserve their traditional Hmong culture was challenging for
many Hmong students. The literature review also stated that Hmong students were
one of the poorest immigrant groups in the United States. The findings from the
literature also provided a list of strategies and factors to promote, support, and
improve the educational achievement for current and future Hmong students.
The chapter that follows, Chapter Three, will explain the methodology used to gather
information pertaining to the barriers Hmong students face in the United States.
Chapter Three will address who the intended audience for this project are, factors that
will help promote, support, and improve the educational achievement for Hmong
students, and include details on how the materials were gathered for the purpose of
the project in Chapter

Demographics of the Ice Cream Industry The Canadian demographic for ice cream
has been a constant presence of a sweet treat on a hot summer day. Thankfully,
Canadians love ice cream, and enjoy it all year around. But, just who is enjoying
this delicious milky treat, and what opportunities and threats does that leave the
ice cream industry with? Opportunities Canadians have loved ice cream for
centuries, and it shows today as children as young as ages 2 12, and folks as mature
as 75 and up love ice cream. (Canadians Crazy for Ice Cream, 2010, Para. 12).

Yet, where there are micro environmental factors, there s also macro. Macro
environmental factors are affected by natural disasters such as the fire that caused
$2million of damages at Chapman s institution of Markdale (CTV Toronto, 2009,
Para. 1 16), which posed as a threat because the result was loss of an entire product
plant as well as product growth. Other macro environmental factors also include
the economy. If the economy goes down, the less people will spend money and the
more they ll cut out the little things, like ice cream. Other threats to obtaining the
demographic span can be as simple as people who are lactose intolerant. Being
lactose intolerant is actually having the high sugars in milk products not properly
being broken down in the body. However, ice cream provides these high sugars,
making it difficult and uncomfortable for the body to digest. (Canadian Digestive
Health Foundation, 2013, para.1) While this seems like a mild threat, it holds the
value of over 7 million Canadians who suffer from lactose intolerance and are not
able to enjoy milk products, resulting in a large loss. (Canadian Digestive Health
Foundation, 2013, Para 2) Opportunity or Threat. DEMOGRAPHIC Ice cream is
becoming exposed to children at young ages.(Mamapedia, 2012, Para. 2) This is an
opportunity for the ice cream industry because as the ice cream industry grows,
people grow with it. The early exposure of ice cream to children can create cravings,

With reference to your own process, discuss and analyse how the use of mask
affected your approach to creating character. Compare how it differs from working
without mask, assessing benefits and any perceived drawbacks. Discuss its potential
effect, if any, on your work in non mask theatre.
In this essay I will argue that the use of mask is vital in creating a believable and
consistent character for performance. The techniques used in masks not only help to
define a character but also help an actor improve their improvisation techniques.
Jacques Lecoq wanted to explore the hidden gestures, emotions and underlying states

Draco would then scoff before dropping it elsewhere.
When making my mask, I wanted to create one that oozed authority with a hint of
smarminess. I was ultimately surprised by the outcome, my end product was a
trickster. The raised eyebrow however led to a smirk which ultimately led to the
name Draco; a genus of reptiles, very apt for my character.
However, the eviller Draco became the more drastic a counter mask had to be. As our
piece was dedicated to stealing a picture of Zefron Zac Efron , when ripped, Draco
had to flip suddenly.
I drew upon the counter mask exercises we had developed in rehearsals. Changing
everything that made Draco who he was. His ever present sneer faded into a frown
and a wail.
To achieve Draco s mannerism and voice I charged my mask. Copying the arched
eyebrow on the mask I found a nasally voice with an added scoff at the end. I then
began to work on my inner dramatic monologue.
I wanted to keep in mind that Draco thought himself above everyone else hence a
simple inner monologue; I am surrounded by idiots...peasants, they should be
quivering in my mere presence.
Getting the temperament of Draco however was difficult. Despite embodying the
arlecchino mask I wanted Draco to keep an air of authority, the temperament I chose
for Draco was Choleric This way follow me, follow me this way now! .
All the exercises and techniques I used to develop Draco greatly helped me in
perfecting his character, from Lecoq s 7 states to chekov s centres.

War strategy is a complicated subject. A few decades ago, warfare was generally
thought of only in terms of physical fighting; however, today s technological society
has introduced a new arena of defense and attacks. The book The Art of War by Sun
Tzu and the paper The Challenge of Information Warfare by Major General Wang
Pufeng are both great readings about how countries must act to be successful in war.
Both authors agree on two major aspects of wartime strategy: information and the
use of people. Despite the similarities Tzu s strategy needs to evolve be fully
relevant. Tzu and Pufeng both show similarities but Tzu s theory needs to expand to
fit the times.

Tzu talks about using information against the enemy, Having converted spies, getting
hold of the enemy s spies and using them for our own purposes. [1] He talks about
using the enemy s spies against them so they can spread false information and
deceive the enemy. Pufeng says, Information warfare includes engaging in an active
offense of information suppression and attack, as well as in the reactive defense of
information counter reconnaissance, resistance to interference, and defense against
destruction. [4] Gathering, controlling and using information to attack are all items
that these two authors think are important when fighting in a war. Another arena that
the authors agree on is the importance of people in the army.
The two authors both agree that soldiers are an important part of wartime strategy.
Tzu believes it is important how soldiers are treated, Therefore soldiers must be
treated in the first instance with humanity, but kept under control by means of iron
discipline. This is a certain road to victory. [5] Tzu continues to demonstrate the
importance of the treatment of soldiers in saying, If a general shows confidence in

In the novel The Dead, Gabriel Conroy, who is the nephew of Julia and Kate

Very good: that was one for Miss Ivors. (Joyce, 134) Second, my heart is moved
that Gabriel looks at his wife, Gretta, on the stairs. It is the real love, the pure love.
He was attracted by thelonely figure of his wife. A woman, standing in the shadow
also. It is his wife. It isgrace and mystery, just like a symbol. It is his wife. The
reason why he was attracted by the figure of his wife is because it is his own
shadow, his heart shadow:standing alone on the high stairs, forgetting time and
space, immersing in his own grief in. He is also eager to know whathis wife is
thinking about. Gabriel had not gone to the door with the others. He was in a dark
part of the hall gazing up the staircase. A woman was standing near the top of the
first flight, in the shadow also. He could not see her face but he could see the terra
cotta and salmon pink panels of her skirt which the shadow made appear black and
white. It was his wife. She was leaning on the banisters, listening to something.
Gabriel was surprised at her stillness and strained his ear to listen also. But he
could hear little save the noise of laughter and dispute on the front steps, a few
chords struck on the piano and a few notes of a man s voice singing. (Joyce, 144)
Gretta was twice reminded of
48. Les Grands Boulevard And La Grande Jatte
Through my analysis and comparison of Les Grands Boulevard and La Grande
Jatte I hope to convey to the reader that these two paintings, although painted in
different styles, both illustrate the need to slow down and enjoy life. Les Grands
Boulevards is a 20 1/2 x 25in. European oil on canvas painting created by Pierre
Auguste Renoir in 1875 during the impressionismmovement ( Philadelphia Museum
of Art ). The painting is currently housed in the Philadelphia Museum of Art (
Philadelphia Museum of Art ). A Sunday on La Grande Jatte is another European oil
on canvas painting. Georges Seuratstarted this painting in 1884 during the post
impressionism movement and completed it in 1886 ( About This Artwork. ). In
1889 Seurat made one final change to La Grande Jatte, restretching the canvas to 81
3/4 x 121 1/4in in order to add a painted border ( About This Artwork. ). The painting
is now located at the Art Institute of Chicago( About This Artwork. ).
Renoir s use of blurred details, blended colors and optical effect of light and color
in Les Grands Boulevard show a fleeting moment of contemporary life in Paris in
1875.The painting depicts one of the so called grands boulevard of Paris. Brought
about by the industrial revolution, the boulevard was a newly restored and
modernized urban setting at the time Renoir painted it. The painting shows a busy
populated street with people going about their day. Amidst the busy street we see a

50. Theme Of Symbolism In A Prayer For Owen Meany
Owen s Armless Figures Several themes can be found within the pages of A Prayer
for Owen Meany by John Irving; however, a more prominent theme that moves the
story along is that of symbolism. For Owen Meany, he seems to be obsessed with
armless figures all his life from Tabby s dressmaker, to the armadillo, and finally,
Mary Magdalene. Readers cannot help but to try to correlate all these images into a
bigger picture. The Watahantowet totem became the first of Owen s many
fascinations with armless figures at a young age . The totem is of a Sagamore
Indian chief who sold his tribe s lands to European settlers. The totem does not
have hands because the indian chief had no choice but to sell his lands, in a sense
his hands were tied. A major part of Owen s childhood seems to be Tabby s
dressmaker. As the readers know, Owen was close to John s mother and her
dressmaker was a nearly perfect copy of her body, making it a comforting object
for Owen, especially after her death. As young children John and Owen used to
dress the dummy, but for Owen this seems to be more than just a childhood game.
In fact, after Tabby dies, Owen takes the dummy from Dan s apartment and takes it
home with him. This object serves as a significant object in Owen s life because
one night while spending the night at 80 Front Street, Owen was feeling ill and he
went into Tabby s room. He saw the dressmaker in the dark and believed it to be
the Angel of Death come to take Tabby away and he scared it off when he walked
in. After this, he believed that it was his destiny to be the one to kill Tabby
because he had interrupted the angel, explaining why he felt little remorse when he
killed her. Another symbol without arms was the armadillo, who at first had claws.
The armadillo symbolises the friendship John and Owen had and the loss of
innocence they felt when Tabby died. After Tabatha had died, John let Owen take
the armadillo home in an effort to comfort him. When Owen brought the stuffed
animal back its legs and claws had been removed. At first this seems like an odd
occurrence that will never be explained, but later the audience puts the puzzle pieces
together and discover that Owen was trying to show John how God has made him his

They began their research by gathering 4 to 13 month old infants and creating four
experiments. In experiment 1, they tested infants in three age groups, ages 6.5, 10

displays of squares with patterns, the observer will record how long the infant would
look at each monitor. Each infant was given six trails, one with the change displays
and the other with no change. The results were, infants 10 and 13 months looked
