intellectually rewarding endeavor. The difficulty arises not only from the need to critically
engage with the concepts presented in the book but also in crafting a coherent and insightful
response. The task requires a thorough understanding of the author's arguments, a skillful
integration of supporting evidence, and the ability to articulate one's own perspective on the
issues raised.
One of the complexities lies in striking a balance between summarizing the key points of the text
and offering a thoughtful analysis. It demands a keen ability to identify the author's intentions,
assess the validity of their arguments, and construct a well-organized essay that effectively
communicates one's own interpretation.
Moreover, the challenge extends to the requirement of originality. The expectation is not merely
to regurgitate the author's ideas but to synthesize them with personal insights and reflections.
This process of intellectual synthesis demands a creative and critical approach, making the essay-
writing journey an intricate intellectual exercise.
As with any essay, the difficulty is also influenced by the writer's proficiency in articulating
thoughts clearly and cohesively. A well-structured essay necessitates careful planning, drafting,
and revising to ensure that ideas flow logically and that the intended message is conveyed with
precision.

Phil Jackson And Buddhism Essay
Buddhism is a major Asian religion studied and practiced in countries such as Sri
Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. Although Buddhism is a growing religion
throughout the world, in particular, the practice of meditation is spreading in the
West. The United States has a center for Buddhists in Hawaii and New York and also
a Buddhist community has been established in California. (Hewitt, 13 14) But even
closer to home for most is the practicing of Zen Buddhismon the basketball court by
formerChicago Bullsand present Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson. In this
essay I will discuss how Jackson has incorporated some of the practices of Zen
Buddhism into his and the players of his teams lives and how it has been effective

It s often an uphill fight. The ego driven culture of basketball, and society in
general, militates against cultivating this kind of selfless action, even for members
of a team whose success as individuals in tied directly to the group performance. Our
society places such a high premium on individual achievement, it s easy for players
to get blinded by their own self importance and lose a sense of interconnectedness, the
essence of teamwork.
In this passage Jackson incorporates some very important fundamental Buddhist
ideas. One of the aspects of the Eightfold Path, or the Middle Way , which Buddha
said was the cure of suffering, Right Thought is the basis of this statement. In the
introductive book Buddhism Catherine Hewitt spends three pages (4 6) discussing
the aspects of the Eightfold Path. She says that Right Thought is when Buddhists,
strive to think unselfishly and compassionately. Jackson is saying that in our
Western way of living, the self is everything. We are constantly worried about how
things will effect us (ourselves) instead of as a community, society, or team; where
we are going and for others to get out of our way not thinking that they might have
somewhere to be too; and also in reflection of the team structure, how we are going to
make that
Darfur Celebrities
Since the creation of old media sources, like T.V. and radio, countries across the
globe have used technology to document important events. However, the continuous
portrayal of negative conflicts broadcasted by news stations often cause people to
change the channel. Traditional forms of media cause this lack of empathy because
of the absence of strong leadership and motivational involvement. In contrast, new
media is designed to be interactive, impelling users to be involved. Celebrities can
use their influence on social media to connect their followers to conflicts they believe
need the world s support. As a result, users feel they should support their favorite
actors and athletes by spreading the word through posts, hashtags, and videos.... Show

If there is a strong leader, new media can gather groups together to protest conflicts,
raise money, and hold meetings with governments. It can connect people
internationally, giving humanity the ability to communicate to others about the
importance of a particular conflict. The more people helping to bring peace and
prevent future crises, the easier it will be to end the conflict. [R]eal leverage for
human rights and peace will come when the people who benefit from war will pay
a price for the damage they caused (Trussel 1). Youtube videos can be used to
leverage peace because they raise awareness. They can be shared instantly, not
only on Youtube itself, but on other social media sites, therefore expanding the
window of viewers. They show firsthand evidence of conflicts. Facebook is the
perfect medium to form humanitarian groups, protest, and connect the world to
crises. It can be a tool for peacebuilding by using hashtags like Team Darfur to
gather individuals to discussions pertaining to the Darfur Crisis. Creating pages to
raise money for a crisis or to discuss ways to bring humanitarian groups into areas
of conflict is another method that can be used. Clearly, no matter what the conflict
is, new media can be used by everyone to raise awareness about crises and to
influence the world to help build peace and prevent future
What Is A Career Path Essay

knowledge and time to be able find yourself to pick the best career path that would
help you succeed and live a content life. Many famous people that have changed the
world have a calling for a certain career this is called a vocation. Throughout my

For one I will be able to save the lives of the brave and strong people who put their
lives on the line for this great country that I am fortunate to live in. Another
positive thing about this career path is that my education will get paid for which is
a good thing because going into the medical field you need a lot of schooling which
takes a lot of money to pay for it. Being a general surgeon for the army will give me a
good resume to get a good job when I leave the service. Also being in the army I
will be well experienced with the most serve cases which will help me in the long
run as a surgeon. Some negative things about being a surgeon in the army is that I
will have to live overseas. Another negative is that I may see a lot of casualties
which can cause me to have physiological problems later in my life. The last
negative aspect is that I will be limited to type of people I will be able to treat in
that I will be limited in only helping the American soldiers and the other allied
The Transformation Of Ebenezer Scrooge In A Christmas
Carol
The Transformation of Ebenezer Scrooge
Characterization is an act of describing qualities and traits of a person. Characters in
literature sometimes make dramatic transformations. In the novella, A Christmas
Carol by Charles Dickens, the character Scrooge was a harsh and selfish person, but
overtime his personality changed after he witnessed how people had way harder and
more stressful life than he had ever imagined.
In Stave 1, Dickens establishes Scrooge s character as someone who is greedy and
stingy man who didn t care for others. It states, Scrooge seized the ruler with such
energy of action, that the singer fled in terror, leaving the keyhole to the fog and
even more congenial frost. (Dickens, 11). This piece of evidence is showing how
rude and impolite Scrooge was when a singer came to his door of his office just to
sing some christmas carols. The book also states, To edge his way along the
crowded paths of life, warning all human sympathy to keep its distance, was what the
knowing ones call nuts to Scrooge. (Dickens, 3). This quote is describing how
Scrooge never cared for anyone nor was he willing to. Scrooge was a egotistic man
who thought only for himself and condemned human empathy. ... Show more content

It says, Scrooge said he knew it. And he sobbed. (Dickens, 33). Scrooge is starting
to change when he saw his past and saw that when his friends had neglected him
and showed his emotions. It also states, I should be able to say a word or two to
my clerk just now! (Dickens, 43). Scrooge is transforming into a cordial gentleman
and after he realizes how bad of a boss he was to his clerk, Bob Cratchit. Scrooge
realizes how blessed he actually was and transformed into a better man after
witnessing what the ghosts showed him about the past and
A Gathering Of Old Men By Ernest J. Gaines
The past is never completely forgotten and in A Gathering of Old Men by Ernest J.
Gaines, this statement is proven true. Set in the 1970s in central Louisiana on the
tail end of the Civil Rights and Jim Crow eras, this novel by Gaines reflects on the
struggle between past traditions and a new world order. The setting presented
directly correlates to the theme of change in the novel and how broader societal
changes affect the characters actions. By examining the significance of the theme of
change in the novel and how it plays out in the motivation and continuance of the
plot, the reader can see what the consequences of a large shift in societal thinking can
have on a community. In A Gathering of Old Men, most readers would agree that...

I m interested only in my family. If the majority feels their brother is not worth it,
then the family has spoken. I m only interested in my family (Gaines 145). In this
passage, the ideological differences between generations become very apparent.
The philosophical differences between Fix and his son, Gil, can be attributed to
three things time, education, and exposure to different groups of people. Fix and
Beau are uneducated Cajuns that farm the land with tractors, however this
contrasts with Gil, who is pursuing an education at LSU. Because of his higher
education and sports background, Gil has had to work with many different groups
of people, which then bred tolerance within him and ultimately led to his change in
ideals. Like Gil and Fix, a similar metamorphosis occurs in the character of Charlie.
Even though Charlie is one of the most important characters, he does not appear
until the last few chapters of the novel. In his own words, Charlie describes his
change: He cussed me. I was doing my work good. Cussed me anyhow. I told him he
didn t need to cuss me like that. I told him I was doing my work good. He told me he
wouldn t just cuss me, but he would beat me, too. I told him no, I wasn t go n low
that no more, cause I was fifty years old half a hundred. (Gaines 190) He
Analysis Of The Movie Copycat
Analysis of Copycat (1995) In the movie Copycat from 1995 there is a character
named Helen Hudson (Sigourney Weaver) who is a psychiatrist that studies the
behavior of serial killers. At the beginning of the film she is giving a lecture at the
University of San Francisco and at the end of the lecture, Daryll Lee Cullum
(Harry Connick, Jr.) follows Helen into the restroom and tries to hang her, but
fails and gets locked up in prison. Thirteen months later, Helen suffers from panic
attacks and agoraphobia which have resulted from her Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder. She has been housebound for months now and has a homosexual
assistant named Andy (John Rothman). Darryl Lee is in contact with William
McNamara, another psychopath who wants to follow in Darryl Lee s footsteps
and become famous. So Darryl Lee tells William to continue his work of killing
Helen. He does this by copying other serial killer signatures such as John Wayne
Gacy, the Boston strangler, and Son of Sam etc. Three murders have occurred and
Helen notices through newspapers that each murder seems to be done by one
person. Therefore, she calls the police to leave an anonymous tip and they mock
her and brush her off as a prank call. However, Officer M.J. Monaham (Holly
Hunter) becomes curious and starts to think that Helen would be able to add to the
investigation. So she obtains the case files and wants to get Helen s opinion on the
case. At first Helen is reluctant to help because as M.J. Monaham starts to

Calculus C Are Largely Defined By Derivatives Of Vector...
The major topics explored in Calculus C are largely defined by derivatives of vector
valued and parametrically defined functions, integration by partial fractions, improper
integrals, series convergence (Taylor and Maclaurin), L Hopitals Rule, and numerous
applications. All of the following topics require a solid foundation in not only
CalculusA but also Calculus B.
Vector valued functions include mathematical functions of one or more variables
whose range is defined as a set of both multidimensional vectors and infinite
dimensional vectors. Much of this was expanded on by Newton and Descartes during
the Enlightenment in Europe. Newton largely defined calculus in his book Principia
Mathematica whereas Descartes was the founder of analytic ... Show more content on

The derivative of a three dimensional vector function can be differentiated by using
standard differentiating rules, taught in a standard Calculus A course, as it breaks up
the components in the Cartesian coordinate system.
Integration by partial fractions, or in other words commonly known as the partial
derivative of a vector function, is defined with a commonly used variable a, with
respect to the frequently used scalar variable q. A sub I is the scalar component of
a in the direction of e sub i. Sometimes, it is also called the direction cosine of a and
e sub i, but it is also frequently known in most math classes as the dot product. The
vectors e1,e2,e3 form what is known as an orthonormal basis that is commonly fixed
in the reference frame in which the derivative of the partial is being taken. This was
also further expanded on by Newton in the 17th century in his famous book Principia
Mathematica and he often used the notation from Gottfried Leibniz, another 17th
century mathematician.
Defined by Isaac Newton and Descartes, in calculus C, another frequently taught
topic is what is known as an improper integral. It is defined as the limit of a definite
integral as an endpoint of the interval or intervals of integration approach either a
specified definite real number or infinity or even in some cases negative infinity. In
other cases both endpoints approach limits. Such an integral is often written
symbolically just like a standard definite integral,
Essay about Organization Structures
Organization Structures The mechanistic view of an organization began with the
industrial revolution. The view is a reflection of society s radical change from a
rural agricultural base to one more impersonally based on centralized urban industry
employing great numbers of people. The first changes began in the late 1600 s and
early 1700 s with rudimentary machines replacing manual labor or accomplishing
things not previously possible because of size, weight, or sheer numbers. The greatest
industrial growth was during the 1800 s period, which was exponential at its end and
the outset of our century.
The view and metaphorical analogy of an organization as a machine was the result
of the only frame of reference available at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mechanistic structures are designed to induce people to behave in predictable,
accountable ways. Decision making authority is centralized, subordinates are closely
supervised, and information flows mainly in a vertical direction down a clearly
defined hierarchy. In a mechanistic structure the tasks associated with a role are also
clearly defined. There is usually a one to one correspondence between a person and a
task (figure 1 depicts this). Each person is individually specialized and knows exactly
what he or she is responsible for, and behavior inappropriate to the role is
discouraged or prohibited.
The mechanistic structure is the traditional or classical design, common in many
medium and large size organizations. Mechanistic organizations are somewhat rigid
in that they consist of very clearly delineated jobs, have a well defined hierarchical
structure, and rely heavily on the formal chain of command for control. Bureaucratic
organizations, with their emphasis on formalization, are the primary form of
mechanistic structures. According to Max Weber, bureaucracyis a form of
organization characterized by a rational, goal directed hierarchy, impersonal decision
making, formal controls, and subdivision into managerial positions and specialization
of labor. Bureaucratic organizations are tall consisting of hierarchies with many levels
of management. In a tall structure, people become relatively confined to their

THE PUNIC WARS
During the 3rd and 2nd centuries B.C., three wars were fought between Rome and
Carthage. The name given to describe the wars Punic, is a divided word from the
Latin and Greek words for Phoenician. The city of Carthage, situated in what is now
Tunisia in North Africa, was founded in 814 B.C. by the Phoenicians. The first two
wars were the longest 23 years and 17 years, separated by an interval of 23 years. The
last and third war lasted only three years. It started 52 years after the end of the
second Punic War. All three wars were won by Rome, which automatically emerged
as the greatest military power in the Mediterranean Sea. The hostility of Carthage
impelled Rome to build up its large army and create a strong navy just like the one
Carthage had. Strong military leaders of the war for Carthage and his sons
Hasdrubal and Hannibal. Rome s outstanding leaders were Scipio Africanus. Belief
holds that Phoenician settlers from the Mediterranean port of Tyre discovered the
city state of Carthage on the northern coast of Africa. By 265 B.C., Carthage was
the richest and the most advanced city in the region, as well as its prominent naval
power. Through Carthage had clashed forcefully with several other powers in the
region, notably Greece, its relations with Rome were historically friendly, and its
cities had signed several treaties defining trading rights over the years. By 275 B.C.

Graphically Representing Data
Within a School Setting
Christopher M. Lightfoot Abstract
This paper examines the ability to graphically display frequency distribution tables
that are represented within a school setting. There are three types of data sets that are
interpreted within two types of frequency distribution tables (see Table 1). The first
type of data set that is mentioned is a discrete nominal data set that is graphically
displayed as a bar chart (see Figure 1), which displays the reoccurrence of each
category within the simple frequency table (see Table 2). The second data type
referenced is a discrete ordinal data set that was analyzed through a simple frequency
table. The simple frequency table allows for the conversion of the ordinal data into a
pie chart (see Figure 2), which measures the percentages within a four point Likert
Scale (see Table 3). The final data source is a continuous interval set, which was
interpreted through a cumulative frequency table (see table 4). The cumulative
frequency table is graphically represented in Figure 3 as a combination of a
histogram (which measures the percentage of class intervals) and scatter points (to
identify the cumulative percentage between all of the class intervals).

The creation of frequency distribution tables allows for the conversion of the data
within the set into a dramatic graphic representation. Research from the

In the Canterbury Tales, Geoffry Chaucer, meets and describes twenty nine
pilgrims. While all of their reasons and intentions differ, they are all going to visit
the shrine of Sir Thomas Beckett. Chaucer uses many different methods to
describe his characters. To describe the squire, he chooses to focus on his
appearence, his abilities, and his sexuality but the more that is revealed about the
Squire s character, the more likely it seems that his talents lie elsewhere than on the
battlefield. Many lines are dedicated to his appearence. It is made apparent that he
cares how he looks to others as his hair is first described as locks curled as they were

Twelve O Clock High is a case study in the application of leadership theory during
World War Two. Gregory Peck portrays Brigadier General Savage, a United States
Army Air Force officer thrust into a situation that requires a maximum effort both on
the ground and in the air as he attempts to re invigorate an undisciplined, anxiety
ridden, and ineffective combat unit. Throughout the movie we observe Peck s

Path Goal Theory assumes that leaders are flexible and that they can change their
style, as situations require. The theory proposes two contingency variables, such as
environment and follower characteristics, that moderate the leader behavior outcome
relationship. The leader must consider follower s valences, instrumentalities,
expectancies, equity of rewards, and accuracy of role perceptions when assessing
the requirements of his followers. Additionally, personal characteristics of
subordinates determine how the environment and leader are interpreted. Effective
leaders clarify the path to help their followers achieve organizational goals and
facilitate the journey by reducing roadblocks and pitfalls. This approach assumes
that there is one right way of achieving a goal and that the leader can see it while the
followers can not. This casts the leader as the knowing person and the followers as
dependent, thereby limiting the development of the follower. While the path goal
theory has some validity, Bass argues that better leaders integrate a task oriented and
relationship oriented approach (Blake Mouton, 1964) as well as demonstrate their
ability to clarify the path to the goals (Bass, 1960, 1990). Furthermore, this

The purpose of this report is to analyze the price and revenue management in
containerized ocean freight industry. First of all, we will introduce the background
and development of ocean freight industry; explore the characteristics of ocean
freight price and demand. Then we will analyze relationship between demand and
price. Two famous shipping companies, COSCO and MSC will be introduced as
examples to implement price optimization with price differentiation and competition
considered in ocean shipping industry. Finally, we will discuss revenue management
in ocean freight, the strategy of enlarging their margin during such a recession period.

The profit of exporters decreased significantly, because most Chinese exporters relied
on the refund of export tax to maintain their business under such fierce global
competition at that time. To avoid or reduce loss, exporters rushed to export their
cargo before July 1st, which resulted in serious overbooking in June and incurred a
large demand of shipping capacity, accordingly, the price of ocean freight per
container sored to the highest in past ten years and many shipping companies made
additional orders to build new vessels. While, the next year, 2008, the global
economy crisis broke out, recession weakened the purchasing power of Europe
dramatically; consequently, export from China to Europe declined sharp. Freight
dropped. Also large amount of shipping capacity became free. It is probably the
toughest time for container ocean freight industry. It is essential to analyze the
demand, price and revenue management in this industry.

Demand Analysis
Ocean freight industry depends on international trade totally. The demand of ocean
freight drives from good exchanges, that one area exports its most competitive
merchandise to other areas. Ocean freight industry enables the goods to be circulated,
promoting international trade growth. Compared to air freight, the cost of container
ocean freight is much lower, though the transit time is longer.

they left the Brown Chapel Church. As the group of nearly 350 victims, mostly

Everyone seemed on board.
On the morning of March 7, 1969, the Selma March started.
Stopped Short Only a short time after, John Lewis and Hosea Williams led the crowd
out of the church, starting with high hope. The group of protesters marched through
Selma in pairs. Their minds were set on getting to Montgomery to confront the
governor.
As they were about to cross the Edmund Pettus they were stopped short by Alabama
State troopers. Go home or go to your church! shouted one of the head State
Troopers. The mob knew if they didn t move they would be beaten, but they stood
strong and prepared themselves for the worst. The troopers threatened to attack if they
did not move soon.
Exactly one minute and five seconds later, the troopers charged. The crowd was
violently beaten with billy sticks and forced to inhale the toxic tear gas. The group
attacking them did not show any pity as they repeatedly struck and pounded most of
the nonviolent protesters as they attempted to scrambled away.
The violent officers chased them halfway back to the Brown Chapel. More than 90
innocent people were sent to the hospital shortly after.
Only two days later, the crowd gathered once again in the church and prayed. They
prayed for freedom and for their loved ones to heal soon. The building reeked of tear
gas still clutching the protesters and their clothes.

will benefit from the generous ground clearance and doors that open wide. Visibility
is excellent all around, and the sunroof doesn t detract from the headroom available.
Everything in the cabin feels well built and solid, with most materials being soft to
the touch and nicely grained. The vehicle does come equipped with the EyeSight

Versatility
Another area where the 2018 Subaru Forester stands out is in the versatility of the
vehicle. Not only can it handle off and on road conditions with ease, it is a very
practical car. There is a great deal of room for outdoor gear, musical instruments,
groceries and more, so families can drive the vehicle every day without hesitation.
Drivers may opt for a power operated liftgate also, if they so desire, and there are
numerous compartments for the small items that seem to make it into every vehicle.

Examples Of Symbiotic Relationships In The Bean Trees
A symbiotic relationship is a mutually beneficial interaction between two or more
people, in which both involved gain something from the relationship. The overall
symbol of the wisteria vines in Barbara Kingsolver s The Bean Trees is an example
of a symbiotic relationship. By working together for a shared survival, both the
rhizobiaand the wisteria vines are able to better thrive in their environment and
achieve a balance that is only possible by the two factors working together.
Kingsolver s symbiotic relationships throughout The Bean Treesshow how people
can develop stronger relationships by working together and by developing systems of
support for each other, much like the rhizobia and the wisteria vines.
For instance, the relationship between Mattie and Taylor is symbiotic and leads to
the two growing a deeper connection through their support of each other. One of the
first examples of Mattie and Taylor s relationship is towards the middle of the book
when Taylor explains her new working situation. Taylor states that, In many ways it
was a perfect arrangement. You couldn t ask for better than Mattie. She was patient
and kind and let me bring in Turtle when I needed to (81). The characters are
developing a symbiotic relationship, because the two both benefit from Taylor s
working situation. While Mattie gains a new employee and Taylor gains a steady
job in her new town, both gain a close friend in the workplace. Later on in the novel,

American Cinema And Its Effect On The Middle Class
During the early 1900s motion pictures became popularized as an escapist
entertainment medium that began transforming kinetoscope parlors, lecture halls,
and storefronts into what became known as nickelodeons. Thanks to vaudevilles and
their popularity, films were already known to have a vast audience and to be a new
form of business with possible great success. These pioneer movie theaters had an
affordable entry fee that expanded movie viewing to the middle class, not only
increasing the popularity of motion pictures but also simultaneously increasing the
demand of their production (Dirks). With nickelodeons golden age beginning in 1905
and lasting for about nine years they vastly modified the landscape of the American
cinema by not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to that, the fact that only a projectionist was needed to operate the act,
it allowed for flexibility as to where on the vaudeville bill it could be placed.
During the beginning of its introduction to the vaudeville bill, motion pictures
were a major headlining act that would help vaudevilles, capture an audience. But
as the novelty wore off it became the closing act for many vaudevilles and no
longer the headliner. None the less, vaudevilles helped the concept of motion
pictures to be introduced to the middle class while also allowing businessmen and
others with economic interests to see the mass financial appeal that films could
bring about ( American Variety Stage ). Tally s Electric Theater built in 1902 in the
city of Los Angeles was actually the first structure that was entirely focused on just
showing motion pictures, but it did not cause a large domino effect like
nickelodeons did. As the popularity of movies continued to rise regardless of its
placement in the vaudeville bill they proved to several business owners and
entrepreneurs that movies were in fact a lucrative business ( From Nickelodeon to
Picture Palaces. ). June 19, 1905 was a historical year for the path that the American
motion picture industry was going to take. It was the day that a vaudeville
entrepreneur named Harry Davis, and his partner, John P. Harris opened a theater in
Pittsburgh that was going to have one sole economic business focus, which included

I thought there was no way everything about this situation was perfect.
Why Does Atomic Size Matter
Atomic Size: As you go across periods, atomic mass and number increases because
more protons are added to the nucleus and electrons are added to the outer shell
meaning the atoms got heavier. Also when you go down groups the mass and
number increases because like before there are more protons and electrons added
(extra shells ).
Atomic Radius: The distance from the centre of the nucleus to the outermost electron
shell . Atomic size gradually decreases from left to right across a period of
elements. More electrons and protons added. They pull the electrons closer and
therefore size decreases. Atomic radius increases as more electron sublevels added
when you go down a group. Electron shielding doesn t let outer electrons to be
attracted to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The stronger the bond, the more energy required to break that bond. Melting points
vary and do not generally form a distinguishable trend across or down the periodic
table. Metals generally have high melting points because of the attraction between
the metal ions and the electrons which means that high energy levels are needed to
break these bonds. Most non metals possess low melting points. As you go down
group 7 in the periodic table, the forces increase. This means the melting points
increase as the bonds between molecules get stronger and this is why they go from
gas to liquid/solid. As you go across a period, the melting point of the alkali metals is
higher than the non metals except carbon and silicon (Group 4 because they exist as
network lattice structures meaning every atom is covalently bonded to another atom)
but group 4 has the highest melting point due to the strength of covalent bonding.
The atoms in the element are held together by the attraction of the nuclei to the
delocalised electrons, and as the atom gets bigger the electrons get further away
from the nucleus and the attraction decreases allowing bonds to be broken easier.
Lead has a high melting point even though it s in period 6 because of its 12
coordination structure. Tin however has a distorted structure and so the bonds are not
as strong as
Supreme Court Decision-Making
Segal, Timpone and Howard s article Buyer Beware? (2000) draws upon existing
research into the appointment of Supreme Court justices by seeking to empirically
prove Robert Dahl s 1957 theory that a justice s voting typically reflects the policy
preferences of the president who appointed them, thereby allowing presidents to
achieve their policy goals even after leaving office (pp. 557 558). The authors clarify
this by stating that in the event of a clear correlation, concordance should not be
considered synonymous with responsiveness. Put simply, the research is not
proposing that Supreme Court justices are directly influenced by the decisions of the
president who appoints them, but merely that the president and appointee share the
same political... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Hulbary and Walker note in The Supreme Court Selection Process (1980),
presidents may consider a range of factors when selecting their desired justice,
such as age, race, religion and the likelihood of the nomination gaining the Senate s
approval. Thus, it would be reductive to conclude from Segal, Timpone and
Howard s research that shared policy preferences are the primary goal of a
nominating president in all cases. The authors rightfully acknowledge this by
highlighting Dwight Eisenhower s nomination of William J. Brennan, a justice far
more liberal than his appointer who is widely believed to have been chosen as a
concession to northern liberals before the 1956 election (pp. 569 570). A more
recent example of this trend would be the 2016 nomination of Merrick Garland to
the Supreme Court by Barack Obama. While it is unlikely that the centrist Garland
would have been Obama s first choice to fill the vacant seat left by Antonin Scalia,
he may now represent the least worst scenario, insofar as he stands a small chance of
being approved by an obstructionist Republican Senate. If this occurs, it would surely
be treated as a victory by the current White House administration. As such, it is
important not to automatically conflate ideological differences between president and
justice with a failed appointment, a trap that the article occasionally falls into (p.
The Shinto Religion
Japanese mythology and folklore make up an extremely large portion of the Shinto
religion, of which approximately 2,700,001 people follow worldwide (Pew

who are researching different religions do not look at less common religions such as

This is a tale about a lowly stonecutter named Tasaku, who each day, chiseled at the
stone mountains. He hewed the stone that made up the great palaces and temples.
He never asked for anything except to work every day which pleased the spirit
who lived in the mountains.one day, the price went by with this gigantic parade of
soldiers, musicians, and dancers. He wore robes of beautiful silk and his servants
carried him aloft. Tasaku watched the parade until he could no longer see it.
Tasaku didn t cut anymore stone that day,, he returned to the hut, wishing he were
the prince. He truly envied the prince, he looked up and wish, out loud, that he
could be rich like the prince. The spirit who lived in the mountains heard his wish.
So that night, after the stonecutter was asleep, the spirit transformed him into a
prince. Tasaku was rapturous. He lived in a palace, had fancy clothes with the
finest silk. He had servants who bowed to him and musicians who played whatever
he wanted. He was in command of all the great armies and ruled over the land. In
the afternoons he would walk in his garden, he loved his flowers but the sun made
all the plants shrivel up. He knelt over and looked at the withered plants and saw the
great power of the sun. He wanted to have as much power as the sun so he asked the
spirit to change him into the sun, and the spirit heard his wish. The spirit
Bernard Courtois Iodine
Iodine was discovered by Bernard Courtois in 1811. Later the English chemist
Humphry
Davy and the French chemist Gay Lussac studied the substance separately and ended
up identifying it as a new element. Both chemists gave the credit to the Courtois
discovery. Iodine is a non metal and it is part of the halogen group in the periodic
table of elements. Iodine is the second less electronegative of all the elements of its
group, behind astatine. Iodine is a smooth black solid with a slight metallic sheen,
which is sublimated under normal conditions to form a violet gas
Theme Of The Poem 1958 By Gwendolyn Mcewen
In the poem 1958, Gwendolyn MacEwen describes the high school environment as
it would have been in the late 1950 s. Popular fads among the teenagers during this
era are explored in detail. The prevailing theme throughout the text pertains to the
idea of belonging. The poem focuses primarily on the desire teenagers have to fit in.
Throughout this response I will explore the ways in which this poem differs and
relates to the high schoolenvironment today. Secondly I will analyze the
connections between this poem and a modern day movie. Lastly, I will express the
ways in which my personal experiences relate to the central message in the poem.
Several elements of the high school environment during the late 1950 s still exist
today. The author mentions that, those guys spoke in crazy cryptic monosyllables
. This statement is still relevant today; however teenage boys now speak in a form
of speech referred to as gangster slang . Typical words include sup or peace which
are used to express phrases such as how are you? or see you later. In the poem
McEwen says that, those girls said nothing and were mean and cracked gum . Mean
girls still continue to grace the school hallways glaring at those more vulnerable.
These girls tend to be the masterminds behind vicious rumours that spread like
wildfire throughout the school. McEwen mentions that the boys learned shop and the
girls sewed shaky seams in the dresses they would never wear. This statement
The Battle Of Hastings Essay
Why did William, Duke of Normandy, Win the Battle of Hastings?
In 1066 AD the King of England died without an heir. Three lords of different
countries then tried to secure the English throne for themselves. The first to do so
was Harold Godwineson. Harold was geographically the closest and therefore first
to take the throne. Harald Hardrada king of Norway then invaded England with the
intent of claiming the throne, but was repelled by Harold Godwineson s Anglo
Saxon soldiors. Next William, Duke of Normandy invaded England and defeated
Harold Godwineson at the Battle of Hastings. This essay is on why William won this
crucial battle.
When Harold Godwineson took the English throne he had to weigh up the two threats
from both the North ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Harold Godwineson then sent his men off to fight William s Norman.
This is one of the major reasons why William won the Battle of Hastings. William s
soldiers had been waiting and feasting across the English Channel so were well
prepared for the battle while Harold s men were tired, battle weary and many had
died during the battle with Harald Hardrada. Evidence of this is shown in the Bayeux
Tapestry showing William s soldiers feasting and preparing for the battle while they
waited for the wind to change.
During and before the battle there were also several crucial developments to help
William. Harold Godwineson forced his army to travel so fast that he left many
soldiers behind including most of his archers. During the battle Harold was killed by
an arrow in the eye. This significantly disheartened the Anglo Saxon soldiers. Harold
s death is depicted in the Bayeux Tapestry.
William also made many skilled tactical decisions that helped him win the battle.
Before the battle William had made sure he had a large variety of troops to fight
the Anglo Saxons. At the start of the battle William positioned his men well so they
could easily move about. When William s soldiers were unable to penetrate the
Anglo Saxon s shield wall he faked a retreat. The Anglo Saxons broke ranks and
chased after William s troops. The Norman army then turned around and were able to
kill the Anglo Saxons that had

Examples of violating the NLRA are unfair labor practices. All health care

Under the NLRA guidelines all employers must negotiate in good faith with the

Lgbt Rights Issues
Key concerns of advocates of LGBT rights are the exclusion and discrimination of
LGBT people. Many people have misconceptions about homosexuality or
homophobic tendencies that LGBT have to try to work against. I think that many
LGBT advocates are scared of being judged because of their sexual preferences.
During the dialogue, we discussed the similarities of the fight for LGBTrights and
minority rights. For example, African Americans had limited legal rights and there
were restrictions on facilities they could use. Similarly, laws were passed in
Mississippi discriminating against same sex couples and gaymarriage. I would
identify these as key issues because I think that violating LGBT rights is going
against human rights of all people. Also, I believe that people should be allowed to
engage in relationships with and marry who they choose. A great concern at this time
for advocates of LGBT rights is gay... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Islam is seen as underdeveloped and homophobic and the West is seen as more

Western way of living. Furthermore, although Islam does not have as restrictive
rules about sex as Catholicism, it still teachings that sex should be between two
people of the opposite sex. Still, Muslims do not support a lack of acceptance for
homosexuals, but rather a sense of disapproval. My question for Muslims would be
if they would be accepting of a Muslim who is gay or supports gay rights, similar to
the article by Tim Otto about his celibacy and acceptance from the Church. I think
this would be a significant step in realizing that advocating LGBT rights is not about
promoting Westernization and is more about promoting the human rights of all
Vacant Lot Restoration Case Study
Vacant Lot Restoration Program is a comprehensive plan to specifically address
vacant lots by engaging residents and organizations in their sustainable revitalization
by helping underserved, inner city residents green their communities and restore
vacant lots by creating neighborhood gardens and green spaces, planting street trees,
and establishing tree nurseries (Parks People Foundation, 2002). These efforts were
initially undertaken in collaboration with the City Department of Recreation and
Parks and funded by Baltimore City Department of Housing and Community
Development (DHCD). The program was officially established through an
agreement between the Parks People Foundation (PPF) and DHCD to assist
communities neighborhood Service in managing vacant open space through
adopting the lot Program. All the agenesis will be defined later in this paper.
Overall, the Vacant Lot Restoration Program can be described as successful given
that 21 of the original 24 community projects selected as part of the program have
accomplished several stages in the restoration process over as many as five semi
annual planting seasons (Parks People Foundation, 2002). It empowers over 350

Graphic Design
Visual communication is the transformation of thoughts and ideas into pictures,
photos, graphs and drawings. It is considered as the most interesting and fascinating
form of communication because of the creativity it contains and the vision it
requires. According to Wikipedia, visual communication is most commonly used
daily when surfing the internet because a person uses his eyes to view the websites
therefore the content of the website should be clear and understandable for the
viewer s eyes. It is usually practiced by using the means of graphic designin order to

proves the person is capable of using any program that is relevant to design, since
employers won t request work experience but they would rather have a person with
skill rather than experience (The Advertiser, March 1991).
There is a long list to go through in order for a person to choose what part of
graphic design he/she want to specialize in. That list includes creative director,
layout artist, brand identity design, logo designer, flash designer, illustrator,
technical illustrator, Photoshop artist, multimedia designer, photographer,
prepress technician and a web designer. Each of these job titles has responsibilities
such as, a creative director is responsible for making sure that each of these
workers produce and complete their work on time and to the client s satisfaction.
A logo designer s job is to provide a new and innovative way to express the key
message of a company through a recognizable image. And a web designer s job is
to create the pages, layout, and graphics for web pages, they play a key role in the
development of a website. Each one of these jobs requires different courses, different
certificates, and different experience, but they all share the sense of creativity and
inventiveness in them.
American Industrial Workers
Between 1865 to 1900, certain factors and movements came about that affected the
American industrial worker. Technological changes impacted workers because
different innovations and techniques helped make their work more efficient.
Immigration increased employment in the urban population. Also, the labor unions
came about because of poor living conditions, earnings, and long working hours.
In the late nineteenth century, technological advances provided inexpensive
production methods through industrial manufacturing. One of the innovations that
shaped the way the American industrial worker s job was the steam engine by James
Watt. Before the steam engine, the only methods of power were by wind, water, or
hand, which made factories, for example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the new immigrants coming from abroad were from southern and eastern
Europe, all seeking new opportunities and a better life. Immigration had a high
impact on American industrial workers because it created many jobs since factory
owners turned to them for muscle needed in factories, mills, and railroads. But,
immigrants faced great hostility from white native born Americans who disliked their
customs and also feared their growing influence. Their adjustment to the New World
was very difficult and so they decided to form ethnic communities where they could
still preserve their native culture and practices. Henry Bowers, an attorney, founded
the American Protective Association in 1887. This organization was created because
of the resentment some Americans felt towards the new arrivals. The APA advocated
immigration restrictions, a free public school system, and a slower naturalization
process.
There were three key factors that impacted the American industrial worker between
1865 and 1900. The factors were the technological changes that improved the
industrial workforce and how effective it ran, immigration into the U.S that increased
the number of job opportunities, and labor unions that brought workers together to

How eeg works and data is created
EEG measures the electrical activity of the brain by placing multiple electrodes on
the scalp. All the electrodes work instantaneously and produce data in the form of
multi channel time series in real time. These sensors can pick up about thousand data
points every second. The electrical activity produced by a brain neuron is too small
to be recorded by EEG [11]. An EEG electrode records from a combination of many
concentrated neurons. Each EEG channel is calculated by taking the difference
between recordings of two electrodes.

Whenever a seizure occurs, it forms a rhythmic activity. A typical EEG with seizure

Tylenol: In 1982, seven people in Chicago died after taking Tylenol due to an
unknown suspect lacing the capsules with cyanide after the products reached the

Middle Class Importance
Introduction
Significance of The Middle Class The significance of the middle class is the impact it
can have on political institutions in America and Denmark. The majority of America
s and Denmark s population is in the middle class, making it essential to the
government, economy, and public concern.
Purpose of Investigation The disappearance of the middle class is a controversial
topic, and can affect the government. How do different governments approaches
towards the economy affect the middle class? For the purpose of this essay economy
is a government run institution that manages the trade, consumption, and production
of goods. The middle class is the social class between the rich and poor, an economic
status. If a country s government gives a fair chance to all social classes and not just
rights to the rich, then the middle class succeeds. The graph shows the percentages of
middle class income in America and European Countries.
Comparison The essay compares the middle class in America and Denmark. The
middle class in America is disappearing, while it has a strong presence in Denmark.
The essay details the methods that each government takes to maintain the middle
class.

The Effects Of Autism Spectrum Disorder On Children
Many children have to live their entire lives under the shadow of a disorder that
entirely alters the typical life of a person. Autism Spectrum Disorder is a common
neurobehavioral disorder that is caused during prenatal development. This specific
disorder affects 1 in 68 children in Canada and is increasing every single year. More
children will be diagnosed with autismthis year than with AIDS, diabetes, and cancer
combined (KenCrest). Children who are affected often don t get diagnosed until the
late years of elementary school; Parents, caregivers, and teachers need to know how
to recognise Autism so affected children can get the help they require as soon as
possible.
There are many environmental factors that can contribute to Autism during the
prenatal development. Although many can be avoided, some factors are non
avoidable. Assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral neurosciences at
McMaster University, Stelios Georgiades (n.d.) states that Because autism runs in
families, researchers saw autism as almost entirely genetic. The old thinking was that
heritability accounted for up to 90 percent of all cases. A comprehensive study of
twins with autism showed that environmental factors also play an important role in
driving autism recurrence in families. By environment, researchers mean anything
non genetic. This study highlighted the reality that even though autism runs in
families, we can t assume that it s entirely inherited .
During the prenatal development,

Three minutes. 180 seconds. Not a lot of time, is it? What can you do?
Well I can tell you what I am most likely to do in three minutes. Make Ramen
noodles. Delicious, filling, and fast ramen noodles. In all honesty, one would be hard
pressed to find someone who could resist the tantalizing scent of noodles dowsed in a
scrumptious mixture of salt and more salt.
Let us begin with a brief overview of the history of ramen noodles. Created in Japan
in the late 50 s by Momofuku Ando, this easy to prepare meal was designed to be a
quick and easy alternative to making a full dinner. Mr. Ando made the iconic snack
food for the true reason that fosters invention. He created it out of necessity. In Japan
there was a shortage of food after World War... Show more content on

It is a savoir. It is a redeemer. It brought me from dropping down in the snow to
continue on and reach my goals. It has sustained me, college students whose levels of
intoxication reach staggeringly high levels, and even inmates of Rikers Island Jail
where Ramen noodles are the most purchased product at the commissary. Ramen
noodles saved thousands of people from starvation in Japan. Ramen noodles have
brought friends closer together. Ramen noodles are incredible.
Other than being unbearably delicious, ramen noodles are simply on of the greatest
innovations. Its very own country voted it as the greatest domestic invention in its
history. And Japan the invented the Samuraisword. Samurai swords are pretty
awesome.
If nothing else, Ramen noodles are the just plain efficient. In fact, for the number
crunchers out there, you can live on ramen noodles for a full year, all three meals,
for a measly $140.
Perspective.
That s about 4.6 days of Boun Amici sandwiches. So the cost per unit of this
satisfying meal is off the charts.
Before I finish my piece, I must ask. Who among us has not tasted the love and
affection cooked into ramen noodles?

Essay on Australian Visions
Australian Visions Strictly ballroom by Baz Luhrman is a specular film that conveys
many Australian Visions from beginning to end. It is a story of an individual, who
wants to do his own steps, failing his partner. Fran an ugly duckling of a beginner
class offers Scott partnership. Fran persistence and ideas convince Scott to dance
their own steps on the Pan Pacific championship displaying multiculturalism and
breaking competitions under conformity. The composer has used many techniques
like camera movements, costume, dialogues, symbolism etc. to create distinct
Australian visions. Strictly Ballroom starts with the Australian vision of
competitiveness. The first world we enter is the competitive world of ballroom
dancing, which is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

rules without understanding his personality as being corrupt and villain. Such as
Liz who is mostly shown in yellow colours show her inability to face the truth
about corruption and power dominated world of ballroom dancing. The ballroom
dancing conformity to federation rules represents a fear of change in part of
Australian society that discourages creativity and spontaneity challenging Scott and
Fran s individuality. Scott does not want to follow the federation s rules and wants
to express his creativity by doing his own steps reinforcing the Australian vision of
individuality. Scott also wants to win the championship, but not lose his identity by
compromising his creativity and individuality. It can be seen by his shirt number
100, representing his perfection but while doing his own steps the pause image of
number 100 shows us that he is no longer perfect in the eyes of ballroom dancing
and so therefore he will have to pay cost for his individuality and creativity. This
shows that in order to succeed
How Did The Apollo 13 Oxygen Float
Everything was going smoothly until about two days into the flight. Houston, we
have a problem said Jim Lovell At first their intention was to land on the moon, but
that was all about to change. When the Apollo 13 ship s oxygen tank ruptured the
crew had to find a way to survive. Way before the launch the problems started. The
oxygen tank had been broken before they installed it into the ship. The no 2 oxygen
tank had been previously been used in the apollo 10 ship (Dr. David R. Williams).
The oxygen tank had been taken out but during that time had been dropped. No one
had known about the break. It had only been dropped two inches off the floor but
that caused one part of the break. They had to test them after this before they could

is immediately gaped at, and shunned by the students of Mica high school, but soon
people stare in wonder at Stargirls feats and actions. Stargirlquickly becomes
extremely popular. She also has numerous number friends and followers that try to
be more like her.. Leo doesn t really realize it but he is slowly falling in love with
Stargirl. Even as the rest of the school drifts away from Stargirl and her popularity

The Banking Concept Of Teaching By Paulo Freire
At one point in our lives we have dealt with a certain class that we just absolutely
detested and we have also experience a class we enjoyed. Many times I blamed my
dislike for a class on the subject or on the teacher;however, Paulo Freire describes the
styles that cause you to enjoy or hate a class. One method Freire discusses is the
banking concept saying, His task is to fill the student with the contents of his
narration contents which are detached from reality...Words are emptied of their
concreteness and become hollow, alienated, and alienating verbosity. The banking
concept of teaching involves the teacher playing the role of the master and the
student end up with the role of the slave . Teachers provided the students with the
information they must know but they don t show them how to adapt that information
to the real world. On the other hand Freire mention problem posing teaching method
saying, The teacher is no longer merely the one who teaches, ... They become jointly
responsible for a process in which all grow... People teach other, mediate by the
world, by the cognizable object which is banking educationare owned by the teacher.
When it comes to problem posing Freire believes it gives student a more welcoming
environment for students to learn and grow, including teachers. During my high
school experience I experience both methods and they truly shaped the way teacher
and students interact and how it affect the students reality. When discussing the
The Importance Of Homelessness In Miami
Miami is full of selfishness, ruthless, and uncaring people. Here people do not care
about others they do not care if you are alive or dead, fine or sick no matter who
you are people ignore others. The study was split in to three categories: caring for the
community, the vulnerable, and the workforce.I would like to talk about caring for
the community, why we talk about Miamiin the world nobody cares and I am sorry
to say maybe we are one of them which is my opinion. These days our relationship
with any body are weaker than ever and the reason is people spend time on social
media websites this is one of the reason people do not care about others. In Miami
more than 70 percent peoples are Hispanic and they may face difficulty in the past in

Although Buddhism is a growing religion throughout the world, in particular, the practice of meditation is spreading in the West. The United States has a center for Buddhists in Hawaii and New York and also a Buddhist community has been established in California. (Hewitt, 13 14) But even closer to home for most is the practicing of Zen Buddhismon the basketball court by formerChicago Bullsand present Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson. The ego driven culture of basketball, and society in general, militates against cultivating this kind of selfless action, even for members of a team whose success as individuals in tied directly to the group performance. Our society places such a high premium on individual achievement, it s easy for players to get blinded by their own self importance and lose a sense of interconnectedness, the essence of teamwork. In this passage Jackson incorporates some very important fundamental Buddhist ideas. One of the aspects of the Eightfold Path, or the Middle Way , which Buddha said was the cure of suffering, Right Thought is the basis of this statement. In the introductive book Buddhism Catherine Hewitt spends three pages (4 6) discussing the aspects of the Eightfold Path. She says that Right Thought is when Buddhists, strive to think unselfishly and compassionately. Jackson is saying that in our Western way of living, the self is everything. We are constantly worried about how things will effect us (ourselves) instead of as a community, society, or team; where we are going and for others to get out of our way not thinking that they might have somewhere to be too; and also in reflection of the team structure, how we are going to make that

However, the continuous portrayal of negative conflicts broadcasted by news stations often cause people to change the channel. Traditional forms of media cause this lack of empathy because of the absence of strong leadership and motivational involvement. In contrast, new media is designed to be interactive, impelling users to be involved. It can connect people internationally, giving humanity the ability to communicate to others about the importance of a particular conflict. [R]eal leverage for human rights and peace will come when the people who benefit from war will pay a price for the damage they caused (Trussel 1). Youtube videos can be used to leverage peace because they raise awareness. They can be shared instantly, not only on Youtube itself, but on other social media sites, therefore expanding the window of viewers. They show firsthand evidence of conflicts. Facebook is the perfect medium to form humanitarian groups, protest, and connect the world to crises. It can be a tool for peacebuilding by using hashtags like Team Darfur to gather individuals to discussions pertaining to the Darfur Crisis. Creating pages to raise money for a crisis or to discuss ways to bring humanitarian groups into areas of conflict is another method that can be used. Characters in literature sometimes make dramatic transformations. In the novella, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, the character Scrooge was a harsh and selfish person, but overtime his personality changed after he witnessed how people had way harder and more stressful life than he had ever imagined. In Stave 1, Dickens establishes Scrooge s character as someone who is greedy and stingy man who didn t care for others. It states, Scrooge seized the ruler with such energy of action, that the singer fled in terror, leaving the keyhole to the fog and even more congenial frost. (Dickens, 11). This piece of evidence is showing how rude and impolite Scrooge was when a singer came to his door of his office just to sing some christmas carols. The book also states, To edge his way along the crowded paths of life, warning all human sympathy to keep its distance, was what the knowing ones call nuts to Scrooge. (Dickens, 3). In this passage, the ideological differences between generations become very apparent. The philosophical differences between Fix and his son, Gil, can be attributed to three things time, education, and exposure to different groups of people. Fix and Beau are uneducated Cajuns that farm the land with tractors, however this contrasts with Gil, who is pursuing an education at LSU. Because of his higher education and sports background, Gil has had to work with many different groups of people, which then bred tolerance within him and ultimately led to his change in ideals. Like Gil and Fix, a similar metamorphosis occurs in the character of Charlie. Even though Charlie is one of the most important characters, he does not appear until the last few chapters of the novel. In his own words, Charlie describes his change: He cussed me. I was doing my work good. Cussed me anyhow. I told him he didn t need to cuss me like that. I told him I was doing my work good. He told me he wouldn t just cuss me, but he would beat me, too. I told him no, I wasn t go n low that no more, cause I was fifty years old half a hundred. (Gaines 190) He

The major topics explored in Calculus C are largely defined by derivatives of vector valued and parametrically defined functions, integration by partial fractions, improper integrals, series convergence (Taylor and Maclaurin), L Hopitals Rule, and numerous applications. All of the following topics require a solid foundation in not only CalculusA but also Calculus B. Vector valued functions include mathematical functions of one or more variables whose range is defined as a set of both multidimensional vectors and infinite dimensional vectors. Much of this was expanded on by Newton and Descartes during the Enlightenment in Europe. The derivative of a three dimensional vector function can be differentiated by using standard differentiating rules, taught in a standard Calculus A course, as it breaks up the components in the Cartesian coordinate system. Integration by partial fractions, or in other words commonly known as the partial derivative of a vector function, is defined with a commonly used variable a, with respect to the frequently used scalar variable q. A sub I is the scalar component of a in the direction of e sub i. Sometimes, it is also called the direction cosine of a and e sub i, but it is also frequently known in most math classes as the dot product. The vectors e1,e2,e3 form what is known as an orthonormal basis that is commonly fixed in the reference frame in which the derivative of the partial is being taken. This was also further expanded on by Newton in the 17th century in his famous book Principia Mathematica and he often used the notation from Gottfried Leibniz, another 17th century mathematician. Defined by Isaac Newton and Descartes, in calculus C, another frequently taught topic is what is known as an improper integral. It is defined as the limit of a definite integral as an endpoint of the interval or intervals of integration approach either a specified definite real number or infinity or even in some cases negative infinity. In other cases both endpoints approach limits. Such an integral is often written symbolically just like a standard definite integral,
  • 11. Essay about Organization Structures Organization Structures The mechanistic view of an organization began with the industrial revolution. The view is a reflection of society s radical change from a rural agricultural base to one more impersonally based on centralized urban industry employing great numbers of people. The first changes began in the late 1600 s and early 1700 s with rudimentary machines replacing manual labor or accomplishing things not previously possible because of size, weight, or sheer numbers. The greatest industrial growth was during the 1800 s period, which was exponential at its end and the outset of our century. Mechanistic structures are designed to induce people to behave in predictable, accountable ways. Decision making authority is centralized, subordinates are closely supervised, and information flows mainly in a vertical direction down a clearly defined hierarchy. In a mechanistic structure the tasks associated with a role are also clearly defined. There is usually a one to one correspondence between a person and a task (figure 1 depicts this). Each person is individually specialized and knows exactly what he or she is responsible for, and behavior inappropriate to the role is discouraged or prohibited. The mechanistic structure is the traditional or classical design, common in many medium and large size organizations. Mechanistic organizations are somewhat rigid in that they consist of very clearly delineated jobs, have a well defined hierarchical structure, and rely heavily on the formal chain of command for control. Bureaucratic organizations, with their emphasis on formalization, are the primary form of mechanistic structures. According to Max Weber, bureaucracyis a form of organization characterized by a rational, goal directed hierarchy, impersonal decision making, formal controls, and subdivision into managerial positions and specialization of labor. Bureaucratic organizations are tall consisting of hierarchies with many levels of management. In a tall structure, people become relatively confined to their
  • 12. The Battle Of The Punic Wars Joel Medero History Western Civilization Professor Smail THE PUNIC WARS During the 3rd and 2nd centuries B.C., three wars were fought between Rome and Carthage. The name given to describe the wars Punic, is a divided word from the Latin and Greek words for Phoenician. The city of Carthage, situated in what is now Tunisia in North Africa, was founded in 814 B.C. by the Phoenicians. The first two wars were the longest 23 years and 17 years, separated by an interval of 23 years. The last and third war lasted only three years. It started 52 years after the end of the second Punic War. All three wars were won by Rome, which automatically emerged as the greatest military power in the Mediterranean Sea. The hostility of Carthage impelled Rome to build up its large army and create a strong navy just like the one Carthage had. Lightfoot Abstract This paper examines the ability to graphically display frequency distribution tables that are represented within a school setting. There are three types of data sets that are interpreted within two types of frequency distribution tables (see Table 1). The first type of data set that is mentioned is a discrete nominal data set that is graphically displayed as a bar chart (see Figure 1), which displays the reoccurrence of each category within the simple frequency table (see Table 2). The second data type referenced is a discrete ordinal data set that was analyzed through a simple frequency table. The simple frequency table allows for the conversion of the ordinal data into a pie chart (see Figure 2), which measures the percentages within a four point Likert Scale (see Table 3). The final data source is a continuous interval set, which was interpreted through a cumulative frequency table (see table 4). The cumulative frequency table is graphically represented in Figure 3 as a combination of a histogram (which measures the percentage of class intervals) and scatter points (to identify the cumulative percentage between all of the class intervals). Graphically Representing Data Within a School Setting The creation of frequency distribution tables allows for the conversion of the data within the set into a dramatic graphic representation. Gregory Peck portrays Brigadier General Savage, a United States Army Air Force officer thrust into a situation that requires a maximum effort both on the ground and in the air as he attempts to re invigorate an undisciplined, anxiety ridden, and ineffective combat unit. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Path Goal Theory assumes that leaders are flexible and that they can change their style, as situations require. The theory proposes two contingency variables, such as environment and follower characteristics, that moderate the leader behavior outcome relationship. The leader must consider follower s valences, instrumentalities, expectancies, equity of rewards, and accuracy of role perceptions when assessing the requirements of his followers. Additionally, personal characteristics of subordinates determine how the environment and leader are interpreted. Effective leaders clarify the path to help their followers achieve organizational goals and facilitate the journey by reducing roadblocks and pitfalls. This approach assumes that there is one right way of achieving a goal and that the leader can see it while the followers can not. This casts the leader as the knowing person and the followers as dependent, thereby limiting the development of the follower. While the path goal theory has some validity, Bass argues that better leaders integrate a task oriented and relationship oriented approach (Blake Mouton, 1964) as well as demonstrate their ability to clarify the path to the goals (Bass, 1960, 1990). Furthermore, this transactional

The Interior While the Forester has never been considered an industry leader when it comes to the interior, this does not mean it is lacking in any way. Individuals can get in and out of the vehicle with ease, even in the back, and those who have limited mobility will benefit from the generous ground clearance and doors that open wide. Visibility is excellent all around, and the sunroof doesn t detract from the headroom available. Everything in the cabin feels well built and solid, with most materials being soft to the touch and nicely grained. The vehicle does come equipped with the EyeSight safety suite that Subaru has become known for, a package that many drivers want when it comes to their vehicle. Versatility Another area where the 2018 Subaru Forester stands out is in the versatility of the vehicle. Not only can it handle off and on road conditions with ease, it is a very practical car. There is a great deal of room for outdoor gear, musical instruments, groceries and more, so families can drive the vehicle every day without hesitation. Drivers may opt for a power operated liftgate also, if they so desire, and there are numerous compartments for the small items that seem to make it into every vehicle. This includes cellphones,

Examples Of Symbiotic Relationships In The Bean Trees A symbiotic relationship is a mutually beneficial interaction between two or more people, in which both involved gain something from the relationship. The overall symbol of the wisteria vines in Barbara Kingsolver s The Bean Trees is an example of a symbiotic relationship. By working together for a shared survival, both the rhizobiaand the wisteria vines are able to better thrive in their environment and achieve a balance that is only possible by the two factors working together. Kingsolver s symbiotic relationships throughout The Bean Treesshow how people can develop stronger relationships by working together and by developing systems of support for each other, much like the rhizobia and the wisteria vines. For instance, the relationship between Mattie and Taylor is symbiotic and leads to the two growing a deeper connection through their support of each other. One of the first examples of Mattie and Taylor s relationship is towards the middle of the book when Taylor explains her new working situation. Taylor states that, In many ways it was a perfect arrangement. You couldn t ask for better than Mattie. She was patient and kind and let me bring in Turtle when I needed to (81). The characters are developing a symbiotic relationship, because the two both benefit from Taylor s working situation. While Mattie gains a new employee and Taylor gains a steady job in her new town, both gain a close friend in the workplace. Later on in the novel, Taylor and Mattie s relationship

American Cinema And Its Effect On The Middle Class During the early 1900s motion pictures became popularized as an escapist entertainment medium that began transforming kinetoscope parlors, lecture halls, and storefronts into what became known as nickelodeons. Thanks to vaudevilles and their popularity, films were already known to have a vast audience and to be a new form of business with possible great success. These pioneer movie theaters had an affordable entry fee that expanded movie viewing to the middle class, not only increasing the popularity of motion pictures but also simultaneously increasing the demand of their production (Dirks). In addition to that, the fact that only a projectionist was needed to operate the act, it allowed for flexibility as to where on the vaudeville bill it could be placed. During the beginning of its introduction to the vaudeville bill, motion pictures were a major headlining act that would help vaudevilles, capture an audience. But as the novelty wore off it became the closing act for many vaudevilles and no longer the headliner. None the less, vaudevilles helped the concept of motion pictures to be introduced to the middle class while also allowing businessmen and others with economic interests to see the mass financial appeal that films could bring about ( American Variety Stage ). Tally s Electric Theater built in 1902 in the city of Los Angeles was actually the first structure that was entirely focused on just showing motion pictures, but it did not cause a large domino effect like nickelodeons did. As the popularity of movies continued to rise regardless of its placement in the vaudeville bill they proved to several business owners and entrepreneurs that movies were in fact a lucrative business ( From Nickelodeon to Picture Palaces. ). June 19, 1905 was a historical year for the path that the American motion picture industry was going to take. It was the day that a vaudeville entrepreneur named Harry Davis, and his partner, John P. Why Does Atomic Size Matter Atomic Size: As you go across periods, atomic mass and number increases because more protons are added to the nucleus and electrons are added to the outer shell meaning the atoms got heavier. Also when you go down groups the mass and number increases because like before there are more protons and electrons added (extra shells ). Atomic Radius: The distance from the centre of the nucleus to the outermost electron shell . Atomic size gradually decreases from left to right across a period of elements. More electrons and protons added. They pull the electrons closer and therefore size decreases. Atomic radius increases as more electron sublevels added when you go down a group. Melting points vary and do not generally form a distinguishable trend across or down the periodic table. Metals generally have high melting points because of the attraction between the metal ions and the electrons which means that high energy levels are needed to break these bonds. Most non metals possess low melting points. As you go down group 7 in the periodic table, the forces increase. This means the melting points increase as the bonds between molecules get stronger and this is why they go from gas to liquid/solid. As you go across a period, the melting point of the alkali metals is higher than the non metals except carbon and silicon (Group 4 because they exist as network lattice structures meaning every atom is covalently bonded to another atom) but group 4 has the highest melting point due to the strength of covalent bonding. The atoms in the element are held together by the attraction of the nuclei to the delocalised electrons, and as the atom gets bigger the electrons get further away from the nucleus and the attraction decreases allowing bonds to be broken easier. Lead has a high melting point even though it s in period 6 because of its 12 coordination structure. Tin however has a distorted structure and so the bonds are not as strong as
  • 25. Supreme Court Decision-Making Segal, Timpone and Howard s article Buyer Beware? (2000) draws upon existing research into the appointment of Supreme Court justices by seeking to empirically prove Robert Dahl s 1957 theory that a justice s voting typically reflects the policy preferences of the president who appointed them, thereby allowing presidents to achieve their policy goals even after leaving office (pp. 557 558). The authors clarify this by stating that in the event of a clear correlation, concordance should not be considered synonymous with responsiveness. Put simply, the research is not proposing that Supreme Court justices are directly influenced by the decisions of the president who appoints them, but merely that the president and appointee share the same political... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Hulbary and Walker note in The Supreme Court Selection Process (1980), presidents may consider a range of factors when selecting their desired justice, such as age, race, religion and the likelihood of the nomination gaining the Senate s approval. Thus, it would be reductive to conclude from Segal, Timpone and Howard s research that shared policy preferences are the primary goal of a nominating president in all cases. The authors rightfully acknowledge this by highlighting Dwight Eisenhower s nomination of William J. Brennan, a justice far more liberal than his appointer who is widely believed to have been chosen as a concession to northern liberals before the 1956 election (pp. 569 570). A more recent example of this trend would be the 2016 nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court by Barack Obama. While it is unlikely that the centrist Garland would have been Obama s first choice to fill the vacant seat left by Antonin Scalia, he may now represent the least worst scenario, insofar as he stands a small chance of being approved by an obstructionist Republican Senate. If this occurs, it would surely be treated as a victory by the current White House administration. As such, it is important not to automatically conflate ideological differences between president and justice with a failed appointment, a trap that the article occasionally falls into (p.

Popular fads among the teenagers during this era are explored in detail. The prevailing theme throughout the text pertains to the idea of belonging. The poem focuses primarily on the desire teenagers have to fit in. Throughout this response I will explore the ways in which this poem differs and relates to the high schoolenvironment today. Secondly I will analyze the connections between this poem and a modern day movie. Lastly, I will express the ways in which my personal experiences relate to the central message in the poem. Several elements of the high school environment during the late 1950 s still exist today. The author mentions that, those guys spoke in crazy cryptic monosyllables . This statement is still relevant today; however teenage boys now speak in a form of speech referred to as gangster slang . Typical words include sup or peace which are used to express phrases such as how are you? or see you later. In the poem McEwen says that, those girls said nothing and were mean and cracked gum . Mean girls still continue to grace the school hallways glaring at those more vulnerable. These girls tend to be the masterminds behind vicious rumours that spread like wildfire throughout the school. McEwen mentions that the boys learned shop and the girls sewed shaky seams in the dresses they would never wear. This statement

Harold Godwineson then sent his men off to fight William s Norman. This is one of the major reasons why William won the Battle of Hastings. William s soldiers had been waiting and feasting across the English Channel so were well prepared for the battle while Harold s men were tired, battle weary and many had died during the battle with Harald Hardrada. Evidence of this is shown in the Bayeux Tapestry showing William s soldiers feasting and preparing for the battle while they waited for the wind to change. During and before the battle there were also several crucial developments to help William. Harold Godwineson forced his army to travel so fast that he left many soldiers behind including most of his archers. During the battle Harold was killed by an arrow in the eye. This significantly disheartened the Anglo Saxon soldiers. Harold s death is depicted in the Bayeux Tapestry. William also made many skilled tactical decisions that helped him win the battle. Before the battle William had made sure he had a large variety of troops to fight the Anglo Saxons. At the start of the battle William positioned his men well so they could easily move about. When William s soldiers were unable to penetrate the Anglo Saxon s shield wall he faked a retreat. The Anglo Saxons broke ranks and chased after William s troops. The Norman army then turned around and were able to kill the Anglo Saxons that had
