The Weimar Republic Failed As A Result Of Many Significant...
The Weimar Republic failed as a result of many significant and underlying factors. The problems
included politics, economics, and the popularity of the Nazis along with the effect of the Great
Depression. However, besides all these faults that appeared after the establishment of Germany s
first Democracy, Weimar was handicapped from the beginning due to the effects of the First World
War. Alongside the repercussions of the war, the Treaty of Versailles further lowered the chance of
success for the Weimar Republic.
The German President, Friedrich Ebert, and his socialist government faced numerable problems.
They were well renowned by the public for having stabbed Germany in the back by signing the
Armistice and agreeing defeat in WW1. By fully accepting the War Guilt clause, Germany was
made responsible for paying ВЈ6,600 million pounds worth of reparations in 1919. Majority of the
money was in compensation to the France for the extensive damage to their country. In the
previous year 1918, the national income was roughly one third of what it had been in 1913, and so
paying reparations; equivalent to 2% of the countries wealth, was a financially huge strain. Ebert
was torn as to what to do. Extreme nationalists like the Nazi Party refused to acknowledge
Germany s responsibility and saw these payments as a form of slavery. This is a result of the stab
in the back myth held by many right wing nationalists. On the contrary many Germans believed to

American Dream in the Film, The Pursuit of Happyness Essay
Today, The American dream is not fully represented in the same way as the ideas were initially
raised. The ideas were primarily fabricated in the very beginning of our country. The propagandist
role of any medium has changed just as much as the times have since the signing of the
Declaration of Independence. In contemporary America, film is the leading component of the
propagation and detraction of the American dream. The film The Pursuit of Happyness (2005)
supports the idea of the American dream our founding fathers set out. Wall Street (1987) on the
other hand, supports and acts as a detractor of the true American dream and leads people to
believe, what a lot of people already believe, that it is a dream to become monetarily... Show more

These unalienable rights: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness set the stage for the possibility
of any person to pursue what makes them happy and not be bound by any restrictions since all men
are created equal. This combined with the tenacity or determination of the American people to be
treated equally truly defines what the American dream is. Propaganda of the American dream in
the earlier parts of our country was promoted through the ideas of our government and the known
ability to be free. This eventually evolved into propaganda by entertainment such as posters,
newspapers, film and anything that would reflect on a large audience . In this day in time, we get
most of our propaganda through television. The cause of this is the increase in popularity of
watching television or films over reading books. If this were not happening people may get their
view of the American dream through literature ranging from the autobiography of Benjamin
Franklin to Mark Twain s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn , which promote the American
Dream as it was intended. So, the role of American Films acting on the thoughts of Americans is
changing just as quickly as technology, for retrieving information at least. Knowing this, the
propagandist role of the American dream through film

The Taliban
The Taliban are a part of history and people should be aware of who they are and what they do.
The Taliban has evolved over the years and unfortunately have grown stronger over the years.
They started off as a group of students and it is sad to know that these students who could have
started with a good future ended up being a part of a terrorist group. They think they are doing
right because they may read the Quran but they only focus on the words and passages they want to
hear and say to defend their terrorist group without reading the passage or verse fully and trying to
understand the real words of Allah. The Talibanhave been around for a long time and as a result the
Taliban havetaken over territory such as Afghanistan and many others. One of the territories the
Taliban has is Afghanistan and the government is seen as corrupted because they help the Taliban.
Corruption may exist anywhere but would the Afghan government be supporting the Taliban with
weapons because they want to or because of fear?
A group seen by many as promoting terror and intimidating others. They use the power they have
to make people feel less and for them to feel above the rest. But how, why and when did they start?
Did the United States already know about them way before they even made their way up to
power? Many questions are asked as to whom they really are. They

Religion and Love in For the Relief of Unbearable Urge by...
Nathan Englander s For the Relief of Unbearable Urges depicts how a man s devotion for his
wife, and he is faith ironically leads to infidelity and a physical reminder of his betrayal. The
protagonist Dov is caught between religion and love, he being what he assumes is a good
husband, when confronted with marital issues turns to religion. Eventually Dov s devotion and
faith are rewarded by misfortune that is even more unbearable than his original sexual urges.
Dov although what he does is wrong I believe he has great reasons. He is a representation of a
misguided and loving husband, who is quite religious. Though his actions do not seem that way.
He goes to a Rebbe to ask for advice as to what to do to get rid of his sexual urges since his wife
refuses to lay with him, in the beginning it seems that she is unhappy, even unhappy being his
wife saying I might also have been put on this earth as a bar of soap or a kugel. Better, better it
should have been one if those (). Dov on the other hand is absolutely in love with her and wants
her to want him, but she is unresponsive to his attempts. He does not want to divorce her, he
loves her, and the Rebbe explains that Dov s wife, Chava is testing him and she d be responsive
if he ignore her in the meanwhile the Rebbe suggest a prostitute, more like prescribes Dov sleep
with a prostitute to get rid of and find relief for his unbearable urges . Dov goes through with the

Essay About Snow White
There have been numerous different versions and different interpretations in both writing and on
film of the story known by most as Snow White . These different variations all have a universal
theme and storyline in common with one another. This specific version of the familiar fairytale is
that of the Grimm brothers, the two brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published their story
Little Snow White in 1812. This story by the Grimm brothers has a twist towards the ending when
it is compared to the version that most are familiar with, made popular by the Disney film Snow
White and the Seven Dwarfes . In addition to an alternate ending, it is also necessary to realize that
in the story of Snow White, there is more to look at and understand... Show more content on

In this step is where Snow White begins to make decisions on her own and accept the fact that
there will be consequences for each and every action that she makes. After the huntsman defies
the stepmother s order of killing Snow White and allows her to run off into the woods, it allows
Snow White to be independent. This new found independency of Snow White is comparable to
The Heroine s Journey when Murdock states The heroine crossed the threshold, leaves the safety
of her parents home, and goes in search of herself. (90). Murdock explains that there will be
challenges and adversity for the heroine to struggle through, from both the outside world but also
battle within herself. The next in the road of trials comes when the stepmother and Snow White
have their first encounter after the stepmother attempted to kill Snow White for the first time.
The stepmother realizes the huntsman betrayed her when she receives the response of the
mirror stating You, my queen, are fair; it is true. But Snow White, beyond the mountains With
the seven dwarfs, Is still a thousand times fairer than you. (Paragraph 45). This both shocks and
infuriates the stepmother because she still was not the most beautiful woman of them all. There
is a need for the stepmother to have Snow White dead, so she can have all the attention of the
King and this connects to the myth of romantic love in The Heroine s Journey. The stepmother
has the mindset of If I find the right man I ll be happy... I won t have to figure out what I want to
do. I can simply live his life and this is why she needs Snow White dead (107). With Snow White
dead then it would allow the stepmother to have a sense of fulfillment in her life. The first
occurrence where the stepmother attempts to kill Snow White is done so where Snow White is
deceived by the stepmother who was disguised as an old lady selling lace. The stepmother ends up
tying the lace

England starting with the doubling of factories and urbanization. The effect was both good and
bad because it helped to give people jobs and be able to get money to survive and have better

Components Of Concrete Mix Designer
2.1 INTRODUCTION
The primary objective of every concrete mix designer is to achieve the desired hardened
properties of concrete in the most economical way. This aim can be fulfilled if the various concrete
ingredients are relatively proportioned to yield an optimized result. In order to comply with ACI
recommendations, strength tests are usually performed between 7 and 28 days after the concrete has
been placed. This is time consuming and also experimental errors are inevitable because the right
amount of mix needed to achieve the desired result is an iterative process. This is due to the non
linear relationship between concrete and its mix ingredients
(C. Deepa et al. 2001). In order to reduce the level of difficulty in estimating the strength of
concrete by the traditional method, researchers have proposed different data mining tools for a
rapid and reliable prediction.
This section discusses the current models which have been developed to predict the compressive
strength of concrete at the 28th day. Under this section, only six different models have been
reviewed.

Dork, dweeb, geek, techie, or trekkie? What is a nerd? Dr. Suess first used the word nerd in
1950 it described a small, unkempt, humanoid creature with a large head and a comically
disapproving expression . Newsweek, just a year later, reported the word beginning to take on a
derogatory meaning as someone who is dull, and rigidly conventional. Over the next two
decades, the meaning of the word did not improve. In 1971, The Observer called nerds, people
who don t live meaningful lives, and The Chicago Tribune put it simply in 2002, silicon valley .
Considering nerd is a slang word, the volatility of its meaning and usage is not surprising.
Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the meaning of the word is changing again. Behind the...

California s Gold Rush
Gold! Gold! Gold from the American River! shouted Samuel Brannan, a newspaper publicist
from San Francisco, following the discovery of gold in California (Rhodes 168). This event
sparked a new era of immigration to California in 1848. The gold rush began on January 24, 1848
when gold was found by James Marshall, a foreman for John Sutter, at Sutter s Mill in Coloma,
California(Bancroft 32). Initially the news was kept a secret due to the risk of a massive wave of
gold seekers interfering with Sutter s land and agricultural plans. However, by March of 1848,
Samuel Brannan s flamboyant confirmation to the rumors created the California gold rush. Hordes
of people from around the world traveled to California in search for gold and success. San
Francisco s population exponentially grew from a small settlement of about 200 residents in
1846 to a city of about 36,000 by 1852 (Johnson 12 14). As news spread, the event became known
worldwide. The gold rush in California was a vital event that became the basis for the social and
economic boom that subsequently fashioned global fame, an influx of settlers and, as a result,
the 31st addition to the union as The Golden State . California s gold rush began on March 1848.
Just two months prior, gold was discovered in Sutter s mill. The news was never meant to spread
over anywhere else but, to their dismay, the news for gold discovered was far too immense to be
kept a secret for too long. As rumors circulated then were confirmed,

Effects Of The Halo Effect
The contrast effect where it is assumed that the recruiter is not able to delegate his work because
he told them that he is a perfectionist. The contrast effects deals with the fact the you evaluate
people by their characteristics that was observed recentlyduring the interview and now the recruit
has been judge on his comment on his personal character as a perfectionist that heis not good in
delegating his work. This is only a perceptionand maybe totally not true and this perceptual error
could lead to the fact that this recruit does not get the job.The characteristic of someone that is able
to define their weakness is looked at as a positive attribute of a candidate, and thus recruiters make
direct comparisons of different candidates by directly comparing them on just this one criteria.
The Halo effect affects recruiters perceptions. Because of an avalanche in resumes Worldwide
Panel LLC received for the four vacancies, the officials rejected numerous applicants just by asking
them What is your greatest weakness? . The recruiters formed an overall impression from the
applicants responses and used that impression to bias ratings about them. For example, the one with

Status Of Forces Agreements ( Sofa )
Status of Forces Agreements (SOFA)
Status of Forces Agreements (SOFAs) are often included, along with other types of military
agreements, as part of a comprehensive security arrangement with a particular country. A SOFA
itself does not constitute a security arrangement; rather, it establishes the rights and privileges of
U.S. personnel present in a country in support of the larger security strategy, and provides some
legal safeguards for service members stationed abroad. While the host nation and the U.S. sign
SOFAs after extensive negotiations, many believe they are a threat to the sovereignty of the host
nations and an exercise of U.S. influence in the world. So, is the sovereignty of a host nation
compromised by signing these agreements? Is this a zero sum game for the countries entering the
arrangements or it is more about cooperation and mutual benefit to the signatories? Long lasting
SOFA s like the one between the U.S. and South Korea(ROK) seem to have endured the test of time
and the domestic and international criticism that generates. On the other hand, short lived
agreements like the one between the U.S. and Iraq succumbed to internal political turmoil generated
by the presence of foreign military forces on their soil. In this document I will compare and contrast
both in an attempt to demonstrate that the circumstances that generated the agreement play an
important part in the quality and the duration of it.

Analysis Of The Longest Day
As World War II was ending, the film industry saw a surge in the production of combat films
depicting what unfolded in the war. These films usually displayed the fighting as either patriotic
or anti war. However, some movies were produced which took a more neutral stance on the
violence and focused more on historical accuracy. In The Longest Day, directed by Darryl F.
Zanuck, the Allies plan and execute landings on several beaches in France such as Normandy to
enter the European theater at the start of the second World War. It also shows the events of D Day
from everyone s point of view, even including Nazi Germany and the French Resistance. The
Longest Day asserted itself as an extremely successful film because of the more neutral approach
it took on the fighting, the historical accuracy it possessed, and it s depiction of ethnic relations.
Unlike most films at the time, The Longest Day did not strongly take a pro war or anti war
stance. Instead it had more of an uncommitted theme which was centered around the correctness
of the battles of the war. Nevertheless, there are some occasional scenes showing valor and
bravery, such as the scene at Utah beach where soldiers charge. I believe Zanuck chose to make
the film equitable instead of a patriotic film or an anti war film because he truly wanted to
capture the battles and what he saw of the war. The allies aren t particularly shown as heroes as

Advising Directors Of Flyaway Pty Ltd
I have been asked to advise directors of Flyaway Pty Ltd on the following issues:
Whether Peter and Paul breached their duty of care and diligence as directors when they were not
present for the decision to borrow $10 million from Citibank.
Whether John breached his fiduciary duty as a director when he invested in Speed Bullet Pty Ltd.
Whether board of directors is obliged to follow the resolution passed by the shareholders at the
general meeting.
Whether Peter and Paul breached their duty of care and diligence as directors when they were not
present for the decision to borrow $10 million from Citibank.
A director has a duty of care and diligence in to the company. The Corporations Act of Australia
(2001) states that:
A corporation s director or officer shall use their powers and carry out their functions with the
degree of care and diligence that a reasonable person would exercise if they:
(a) were a director or officer of a company in the company s circumstances; and
(b) occupied the office held by, and had the same obligations within of the company as, the
executive or officer . A director is obligated to place himself or herself to manage the company .
The director must understand the business of the company and the effect that the decisions of the
board has on the company. Where the decisions of the company rely on expert or professional
advice, then the directors of the company can reply on such advice. There has been a series of

How to Promote Real Estate for Sale to Foreign Buyers: Your Own Foreign Website or Ads on
Foreign Real Estate Portals?
Why should a realtor or any property seller care about the internet presence in foreign languages?
According to Wikipedia that cites various sources, English only occupies about half of the internet
nowadays and what is even more important, the number of websites in other languages is growing
rapidly. From the beginning of this century the use of English online increased by around 300%, a
lower rate of growth than that of Spanish (700%), Chinese (1,300%), or Russian (1,800%).
The number of internet users by language (in millions of people) is estimated as: 800 in English,

You do not want to stay behind your competition, do you?
Even the internet searches in the same language, but from the computers located in different
countries, will bring different results. For example, when you search for exactly the same
keywords from the U.S. and from the neighboring Canada, you will get somewhat different
websites order as a result. It means that your website might be in a very good position on top of
many others for the U.S. searchers, but not in the same high position for the Canadian searchers
as some pure Canadian websites on the topic might very well go ahead of you for them. Google
knows a searcher s location by the IP address and automatically opens the country s version by
default. Plus it may be in English or French if we talk about Canada, and again the search results
will be different from each other according to the language used, and also different from what you
probably see on your computer in the U.S.
The same happens with searches by the country specific search engines in foreign languages.
Here comes the question Should I have my own website on the foreign internet or should I post on
foreign real estate portals to sell my property or properties to the foreign

Thomas Edison And The Western Society And Mankind
When looking back at the people in history the one name that always seems to stand out is
Thomas Alva Edison. In this essay I will talk about Thomas Edison and his great contributions to
the Western Society and mankind. Thomas Alva Edison was born February 11, 1847 in Milan,
Ohio, son to Samuel Ogden Edison, Jr and Nancy Matthews Elliott (Frost). Edison s mother
taught him the three R s because he only had three months of formal education. Eventually,
Edison began to favor in independent self instruction because of his poor hearing. Edison in his
younger years took to reading books to learn about the arts, the histories, and the sciences
(Beals). At a very young age Edison became an adult (Beals). He had talked his parents into
letting him sell newspapers, snacks, and candy at the railroad; he had also started a separate
business on selling fruits and vegetables. When learning about Edison in his childhood, one can
understand he was not the average kid growing up. He had a different approach to life in which
he craved for knowledge and obtained a hard work ethic in his young years. In his mid teens he
saved the son of the railroad stationmaster from a box cart and the grateful father taught Edison
how to master Morse code and the telegraph. This allowed him to get a job as a telegraph operator
(Beals). This opened the way for Edison s experimenting with technology and how to further
enhance it. After working as a telegraph operator he created his first invention, the

A Humean Critique of Descartes Essay
A Humean Critique of Descartes
Montreal has big potholes. Lots of them. If one is to truly understand the philosophy of Hume and
Descartes, one must understand what they would do with crummy roads as civil engineers in
Montreal. Hume would probably repave the roads based on the success of past designs and the
results of empirical data. Descartes, on the other hand, would probably leave nothing unscathed
after attacking the problem with reason, scrapping the existing roadmap and re building roads with
new foundations and new directions. This allegory underlines a central question of a Hume
Descartes comparison: if Hume s road to knowledge needs improvement, does Descartes know
where to start or where he is going? The following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Descartes used relations of ideas as the foundation for his method for acquiring knowledge.
Descartes writes that disciplines which rely on composite things are doubtful, and arithmetic and
geometry contain something certain and indubitable (Descartes 61). For example, 2+3=5 is a
relation of ideas because 2+3 #8800;5 is a contradiction. The Discourse on Method constitutes a
series of demonstrative reasonings. For Descartes, knowledge is clarity and distinctness, and
demonstrative, mathematical reasoning pave the way toward this knowledge. Descartes thought
that logical deduction from first principles could uncover a whole series of truths about the world.
Hume rejects the use of relations of ideas to acquire knowledge and instead turns to
accumulation of data. Hume writes that demonstrative reasoning fails to uncover the relation
which governs our understanding of matter of fact: cause and effect. A priori reasoning which
ignores experience cannot draw any inference concerning real existence and matter of fact
(Hume17). This is the central proposition of the Inquiry: causes and effects are discoverable, not
by reason, but by experience (17). For Hume, empiricism paves the way to knowledge and
custom, the codified accumulation of knowledge, serves as the great guide of human life (28).
Knowledge is simply a belief reinforced by experience a far cry from the Cartesian certainty and
clarity. The collection of

what happened in each picture. They went without being captured first but guards invaded their

Daniel and his father had to go without seeing his mother or sister for a while, but that changed
when Daniel and his father were forced to march back and forth all the way throughout the camp
carrying heavy supplies of water on their shoulders. Erika was in the band that played and
marched along with them, once they saw her they tried the best they could to see her because
the rules were very strict, if someone stumbled or fallen they were shot instantly. Once Daniel
got to speak to Erika they were informed their mother had died. The burden on Daniel s father s
shoulders where big, he started getting sick and weak and lost himself in the act of grieving but
soon realized he had to stay strong for his family. Soon after the Americans came and rescued the
Jews and any others from the concentration camps and were given food, clothing, and a little bit
of money to help them get to where they were going. So in this story there are a whole lot of

The purpose of this study was to understand the college students perceptions of slut shaming
discourse. The research indicated that there was a strong correlation between cultural expectations
and slut shaming. According to the results, the perceptions of slut shaming are influenced by
aspects such as: class, culture, media, gender, feminism, ethnicity, religion, and sexuality. Overall,
college students were found to be on crossfire of slut shaming discourse on a college campus. It
was concluded, based on the research, the participants have significantly identified with judging a
woman by the way she dresses. It is recommended that further research be devoted to slut shaming
perceptions in different: cultures, groups, regions, religions, organizations, media and institutions.

Living With Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Essay
Can you imagine walking down the street passing a building, and not being able to go on your
way until you have counted every window in the building? How about trying to leave your
house, but it takes you about one and a half to two hours to leave because you keep checking and
checking to make sure the windows and doors are locked? These are just a few examples of how
people may act who have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). People that have OCD find it
hard to lead normal lives. They tend to suffer from recurrent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and
perform the same rituals (compulsions) that they feel that they cannot control. The rituals or

The PET scans show that patients that have OCD show a change in the striatum area of the
brain when behavioral therapy and medication are given. Maybe with this new information on
the cause of OCD, physicians may be able to treat it easier and with greater success.
Commonality of OCD among the population of the United States does not seem substantial
when compared to other illnesses. About 3.3 million people in the U.S. between the ages of 18
54 have OCD in a given year. (NIMH 2000.) This translates into roughly 2.3 percent of the
population. Studies show that OCD affects women and men about equally. The ratio of men to
women with OCD not being that significant in either direction to give it solely to one gender.
This is unusual because most illnesses tend to favor one gender or the other. Typically OCD
starts in early adolescence, but is written of by parents as abnormal or unusual behavior and the
thought that the child will grow out of it. At least one third of the cases of adult OCD began in
childhood. This shows if caught soon enough and treated OCD might not have been a life long
battle for some clients. In 1990 the U.S. paid out a total of 8.4 million dollars for treatment of
clients with OCD. This was nearly 6 percent of the total mental health bill of 148 billion dollars.
(NIMH 2000.) OCD doesn t just affect the adult population either. Approximately one million

Importance Of Personal Reflection
I started my lesson off by allowing the students to shake their wiggles out. This helps them stay
focused on the lesson. We meet after lunch so they are usually tired and ready to go home. After,
we did that I asked them to look over their push/pull charts from the previous day. I told them to
reflect on the lesson (interactive PowerPoint) from yesterday and to think about their opinions
they developed. I gave them one to two minutes to reflect and turn and talk to their neighbor. As
they talked I went around to listen in on the pairs to make sure their conversations were on task.
After the two minutes were up I asked each pair to raise their hand if they were finished
discussing their opinions. I allowed several pairs to share their opinions. I also asked the groups
to provide two reasons to support their opinion. I restated some of their answers to make sure
they were providing two reasons. I also did that to allow other pairs to possibly learn new reasons
to support their opinion. After, three pairs shared I asked the class what is an opinion? I let two
people in the class share their answerand then I restated their answer. Next, I asked them why do
opinions have to be supported by reasons? I called on one student to share their answer. I told the
class to think about what we said yesterday. After, I explained why opinions had to be supported
by reasons I informed the class that today we will be constructing an opinion piece. I asked the

The Prevalence And Effect Of Workplace
Workplace bullying is a significant but complex issue that presents challenges for a large portion of
Australian firms. Depicted as a form of psychological violence, there have been continuous cases
resulting in serious mental injury or even death. Accordingly over the past decade, research against
workplace bullyinghas rapidly increased internationally including Australia. Since its first study in
the UK, following studies agree on the fact that workplace bullying has become a hazard
affecting people in their daily work life. Special attention is required as it is not a matter exclusive
to a certain region or industry. Its negative impacts being evident, managing and preventing it is a
major task for all workplaces concerned.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It found that 6.8 percent of Australian workers have been bullied at work six months prior to being
surveyed, with more than half experiencing bullying for longer than six months period. (Dollard
2012)
Also, the news article on the human cost of workplace bullying claimed that such conditions were
costing Australian economy between 6 to 36billion dollars a year. The major reasons pinpointed
were the reduced productivity, increase in number of absenteeism and turnover. In addition to its
impact on economy, workplace bullying has a devastating effect on the individual employees.
Bullying can bring significant damage to the victim s wellbeing, which in extreme cases leads to
suicide. Regarding a research conducted by Toni Mellington, an Australian health psychologist,
there is a direct negative relationship between bullying and health. (Gregor 2015) Employees who
claimed to have been bullied reported poorer health, with an increase in severity of bullying
increasing the chance of poorer health. The finding also suggested that the experience of merely
witnessing bullying can also have a negative impact on one s health, backing up the fact that
bullying affects not only the individual but the entire firm.
The eye catching studies above urge a prompt reaction towards resolving workplace bullying.
Currently everyone at workplace is potentially at the risk of being bullied. Knowing the prevalence
of bullying and the

The story takes place in the North African desert as revolutionary violence is about to erupt. The
Guest has three characters: Daru the schoolmaster, Balducci the policeman, and the Arab. The plot
of The Guest has the policeman handing over his Arab prisoner to Daru and instructing Daru to
take the prisoner to to a jail in a neighboring village. Disgusted with the task, Daru brings the Arab
to a crossroads and virtually sets him free, giving him money, food and shows him the two paths in
front of him. One leads to the jail and the village, the other a means of escape. The Arab

The ideas of separation and intermediacy are tied together in this story and describe not only Daru s
physical setting but the situation of Daru himself.
Camus depiction of the weather also helps to set the both the physical and mental mise en scene. At
each description Daru is in between two climatic conditions. The light is dirty, the snow will be
melted, the ceiling of clouds lifts, the light is increasing, and the weather is clearing. In Daru s
belief, the scene is linked to the past and the future. The suggestion of this moment of relaxing of
tensions between two extreme types of weather again evokes the themes of separation and of
intermediacy. During this transition the only violence alluded to relates to the men and not the
landscape.
The snow which hides the trail is described as a dirty white layer neither perfectly clean nor
completely transformed by the desert. It is present but about to disappear. The snow changes the
nature of the countryside; for example: His steps were muffled by the snow. . . . A big stone could
be heard rolling softly. The snow mutes the sharp sound of boots on rocky ground as it attenuates
the harshness of the stone which, because of it, rolls softly. For the moment, the snow neutralizes
the countryside s mineral hardness, a fundamental element of the universe of the desert.

The growth in population played a key part in the reason to expand to the west. The birth rate

How Is Holden Caulfield A Hero
Don t ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody (Salinger 214). Much of
the story Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger consists of Holden Caulfield s social interactions with
others and his adventure home after being expelled from what seems like just another school
amongst many in his history. It goes without saying that JD Salinger has made a classic hit novel
through the integration of an eccentric main character and an unconventional plot. Although the
plot is abnormal, the oddity translates into something noteworthy as the book still retains the
noteworthy qualities of any other award winning book.
The exposition of Catcher in the Rye depicts troubled youth Holden Caulfield on his last day

English Architecture Style
For hundreds of years, architecture has been around. It brought culture to many countries and
people. Architecture from the Renaissance brought many styles and techniques that still exist today.
The layout of a house, could have even saved lives! The Renaissance set many standards for
architecture, making it a sign for for power and wealth.
English Architecture was influenced from many other countries. The trend of architecture started in
Italy and traveled to other countries. It had been Julius II s aim, and that of his successors Leo X
and Clement VII, to remake the city into an imposing showpiece that celebrated Rome as the very
center of the Christian world. Soon many artists from Italy left, going to other countries such as
France and England, and brought their artistic style. Rome set the scale for what architecture should
be anywhere ( Overview of Architecture and Design ).
England took inspiration from Italian architecture and put their own twist on it, making it a more
gothic style. The gothic style of architecture became popular and became the new standard. Gothic
architecture embraced a highly ornate and decorative style, with highly elaborate piers and vaulted
ceilings being among its most distinctive elements. Also there were more churches, bigger and
better every time due to the growing competition in the Catholic and Protestant religions. (

Pilate is better able to fly away from societal expectations than the men in her life because she

Blood and Sleep Imagery in Macbeth
Macbeth screams imagery! Shakespeare uses imagery of blood and sleep to create an atmosphere

guilt or sympathy for him; however, by the time Macbeth has his best friend, Banquo murdered
his sanity ceases to exist. The interest that Macbeth has in hearing the details of Banquo s
murder, his best friends murder, holds complete insanity. The Murderer enters with blood upon
his face Macbeth approaches him to find out if he did his job. He finds out that Banquo s throat
has been cut, and that he lies in a ditch covered in gashes. My lord, his throat is cut that I did for
him. , Ay, my good lord: safe in a ditch he bides, with twenty trenched gashes on his head...
Macbeth s philosophy, Things bad begun make strong themselves by ill. Means do something
once, it bother s you, do it again, it bothers you less, keep doing it and it stops bothering you
completely. Macbeth s interest on how the blood was shed shows intense signs of craziness. The
blood imagery in this scene starts to pass a feeling of uneasiness to the audience.

The Glass Castle Personal Response
Reading The Glass Castle, by Jeannette Walls was a journey in itself. As I dived deeper into the
book everyday, I started feeling like I was apart of the Walls family, going through everything that
they were experiencing. Reading about all their crazy experiences from one of the daughter s
point of views, was incredibly intriguing. It is a personal memoir of her years of growing up with
her alcoholic father, delusional mother, and three siblings. The book is full of hardships. The
family continually suffers especially the children as they grow up. The amazing part of the book is
how the kids, especially Jeanette, made good lives for themselves even when throughout their
childhood they had just about nothing. Jeanette took all her struggles... Show more content on

I have not and will never forget those series of events. This time hurt me but also helped build
upon my character. It was my freshman year of high school. I had decided to play soccer, which
was not a hard decision for me since I had played travel soccer pretty much my whole life. Also
my brother was in high school at the time and played for the boys soccer team, and had my dad
as his coach. He loved it and was having a great experience playing high school soccer so of
course I like to follow in my brother s footsteps. I was very nervous at first. There were over
eleven seniors on the team, and they were pretty intimidating to me. During the summer, I
played with the varsity often and enjoyed it. As I kept playing with them and performing well,
my nerves lessened. Finally when the actual season rolled around, I was put on full varsity. All
my hard work had paid off. I was one of the two freshman put on varsity. I was ecstatic. I was
actually very lucky at getting put on varsity because at this point in my life I played purely out
of natural talent. I was never one to put in extra work outside of practice and be disciplined in
the way I lived my life. I never really strived to be the best I could be. Making varsity made me
somewhat of a threat for the older girls. Some were happy for me, others did not like the thought
of a freshman on varsity. These girls were hard coore they were bound and determined to make it
to state that year. They were not going to accept anything less than amazing. This put an
incredible amount of pressure on us younger girls. I remember going to every practice nervous
that I was going to mess up and they get mad at me. I never really felt at ease with them. In the
first few games I got good playing time. I was doing really well. I was finally getting comfortable
out there on the field, but that was not the direction God was taking me and with one swift kick of
the soccer

Similarities And Differences Between Star Wars A New Hope...
Star Wars: A New Hope and 12 Angry Men are two movies that have underlying similarities and
visible differences. While not entirely obvious, there are similarities between the movies based on
character development and plot lines. Due to the nature of the two movies, it is extremely obvious
as to the differences between the two. The similarities include the character development of Juror 7
(Jack Warden) in 12 Angry Men and Han Solo (Harrison Ford) in Star Wars
: A New Hope and a
good vs. bad theme. Some of the differences include the setting of the two movies and the drastic
difference in special effects.
When examining the similarities between SW and 12 AM, it can be argued that the
development of Jack Warden s character and Han Solo have very similar characteristics. Both
characters start out with the goal of personal gain but eventually find a genuine reasoning behind
their decisions. This is clearly seen when Jack Warden, in 12 AM, notifies the other jurors that he
is just trying to get out of the meeting in time to watch a baseball game. He quickly joins the
majority of the jurors in voting that the defendant is guilty, even though he can not give a clear
reason for his response. Eventually, Juror 8, played by Henry Fonda, is able to provide evidence
as to why he feels the defendant is not guilty. Many of the jurors change their response to not guilty
because the genuinely believe the evidence given is sufficient. However, Juror 7 changes his vote
to not guilty with the

Family As A Family
Families are composed of mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and even pets. Mothers and fathers
raise you to be the best you can be. At any age, from an infant to an adult, they will always be
there for you. Nevertheless, brothers and sisters will also be there for you when you need them, in
good times or in bad times. Familycan help you through the same situations that they faced and
make sure that you make better decisions in life. Pets are a part of your family, too, because they
cheer you up when you re feeling down. They re there to talk things through with and share your
innermost secrets. Everybody is part of a family. A family is there for you when you need them
most. They are with you in the pleasant moments, but more importantly, will stay with you in the
tough times as well.
Mothers and Fathers are a crucial and essential part of family. They are always there to help you
through anything and everything in life. Family isn t merely a connection between blood, but
rather one within the heart. When I was young, in about first grade, I was at school and I started
feeling dizzy and queasy. Therefore, I asked my teacher if I could go to the bathroom and she
allowed me to do so. The next thing I knew, I was throwing up in the bathroom, feeling lonely and
scared. Nothing I had experienced seemed worse than that moment. I went to the nurse, who was
just around the corner, and she examined me and gave me medication to help ease the pain. She
found out that I had a fever,

Working As An Intern For Placer Times
Working as an intern for Placer Times, a major newspaper company in Addis Ababa, Africa, I am
here to have my voice heard. I grew up in a big city where no one had a car. We either walked,
took trams, or subways. At age 16, I got my first job two blocks from my house writing
magazine articles. Ever since then, I have been interning at big news paper companies in big
cities all around the world. I have traveled to many cities, reporting local news and thus never
really got a chance to settle down. I am currently 24 years old and living in a three bedroom
apartment with two other women in the heart of Addis Ababa, Africa. Much like San Francisco,
this city is over crowded, contains too many tourists, and its beautiful views are being... Show more

The man had no ID on him, so the officers could not identify who he was. The body of this man
was never clamed. He was named Victim 001. 001 represented the unknown future victims that
might come from other autonomous car accidents. Although these autonomous cars can drive
themselves, the occupant still has the responsibility to press the emergency break when
necessary. Chris Rodriquez, the occupant of the car in this instance, had just gotten his masters
from UCLA and was about to pitch his first business deal at his dad s law firm. Living under his
dad s expectations, he knew there was no way to ease the man without having a couple of drinks
beforehand. In this case, having a couple of drinks impaired the twenty eight year old male
occupant s judgment, making him unable to press the emergency break. Therefore, the death of
the pedestrian was the occupant s fault. Mercedes Bens company has been working on making
the perfect autonomous car for the past 13 years. Working to make sure every little detail was
detailed to perfection; Stopping when necessary, making sure the speed was accurate, and
installing emergency breaks to make sure the cars would not get out of control, were Mercedes
goals. There are only a couple hundred of theses two door cars with windows tinted as deep as the
ocean, its engine as loud as thunder, with the exhaust puffing white smoke. Although Mercedes had

  • 2. The Weimar Republic Failed As A Result Of Many Significant... The Weimar Republic failed as a result of many significant and underlying factors. The problems included politics, economics, and the popularity of the Nazis along with the effect of the Great Depression. However, besides all these faults that appeared after the establishment of Germany s first Democracy, Weimar was handicapped from the beginning due to the effects of the First World War. Alongside the repercussions of the war, the Treaty of Versailles further lowered the chance of success for the Weimar Republic. The German President, Friedrich Ebert, and his socialist government faced numerable problems. They were well renowned by the public for having stabbed Germany in the back by signing the Armistice and agreeing defeat in WW1. By fully accepting the War Guilt clause, Germany was made responsible for paying ВЈ6,600 million pounds worth of reparations in 1919. Majority of the money was in compensation to the France for the extensive damage to their country. In the previous year 1918, the national income was roughly one third of what it had been in 1913, and so paying reparations; equivalent to 2% of the countries wealth, was a financially huge strain. Ebert was torn as to what to do. Extreme nationalists like the Nazi Party refused to acknowledge Germany s responsibility and saw these payments as a form of slavery. This is a result of the stab in the back myth held by many right wing nationalists. On the contrary many Germans believed to get the country back on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The ideas were primarily fabricated in the very beginning of our country. The propagandist role of any medium has changed just as much as the times have since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In contemporary America, film is the leading component of the propagation and detraction of the American dream. The film The Pursuit of Happyness (2005) supports the idea of the American dream our founding fathers set out. Wall Street (1987) on the other hand, supports and acts as a detractor of the true American dream and leads people to believe, what a lot of people already believe, that it is a dream to become monetarily... These unalienable rights: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness set the stage for the possibility of any person to pursue what makes them happy and not be bound by any restrictions since all men are created equal. This combined with the tenacity or determination of the American people to be treated equally truly defines what the American dream is. Propaganda of the American dream in the earlier parts of our country was promoted through the ideas of our government and the known ability to be free. This eventually evolved into propaganda by entertainment such as posters, newspapers, film and anything that would reflect on a large audience . In this day in time, we get most of our propaganda through television. The cause of this is the increase in popularity of watching television or films over reading books. If this were not happening people may get their view of the American dream through literature ranging from the autobiography of Benjamin Franklin to Mark Twain s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn , which promote the American Dream as it was intended. So, the role of American Films acting on the thoughts of Americans is changing just as quickly as technology, for retrieving information at least. The Taliban has evolved over the years and unfortunately have grown stronger over the years. These different variations all have a universal theme and storyline in common with one another. This specific version of the familiar fairytale is that of the Grimm brothers, the two brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published their story Little Snow White in 1812. This story by the Grimm brothers has a twist towards the ending when it is compared to the version that most are familiar with, made popular by the Disney film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfes . This new found independency of Snow White is comparable to The Heroine s Journey when Murdock states The heroine crossed the threshold, leaves the safety of her parents home, and goes in search of herself. (90). Murdock explains that there will be challenges and adversity for the heroine to struggle through, from both the outside world but also battle within herself. The next in the road of trials comes when the stepmother and Snow White have their first encounter after the stepmother attempted to kill Snow White for the first time. The stepmother realizes the huntsman betrayed her when she receives the response of the mirror stating You, my queen, are fair; it is true. But Snow White, beyond the mountains With the seven dwarfs, Is still a thousand times fairer than you. (Paragraph 45). This both shocks and infuriates the stepmother because she still was not the most beautiful woman of them all. There is a need for the stepmother to have Snow White dead, so she can have all the attention of the King and this connects to the myth of romantic love in The Heroine s Journey. The stepmother has the mindset of If I find the right man I ll be happy... I won t have to figure out what I want to do. I can simply live his life and this is why she needs Snow White dead (107). • 14. Components Of Concrete Mix Designer 2.1 INTRODUCTION The primary objective of every concrete mix designer is to achieve the desired hardened properties of concrete in the most economical way. This aim can be fulfilled if the various concrete ingredients are relatively proportioned to yield an optimized result. In order to comply with ACI recommendations, strength tests are usually performed between 7 and 28 days after the concrete has been placed. This is time consuming and also experimental errors are inevitable because the right amount of mix needed to achieve the desired result is an iterative process. This is due to the non linear relationship between concrete and its mix ingredients (C. Deepa et al. 2001). In order to reduce the level of difficulty in estimating the strength of concrete by the traditional method, researchers have proposed different data mining tools for a rapid and reliable prediction. This section discusses the current models which have been developed to predict the compressive strength of concrete at the 28th day. Under this section, only six different models have been reviewed. 2.2 Artificial Neural Network An artificial neural network (ANN), which is often called a neural network, is a mathematical model inspired by biological neural networks. • 16. California s Gold Rush Gold! Gold! Gold from the American River! shouted Samuel Brannan, a newspaper publicist from San Francisco, following the discovery of gold in California (Rhodes 168). This event sparked a new era of immigration to California in 1848. The gold rush began on January 24, 1848 when gold was found by James Marshall, a foreman for John Sutter, at Sutter s Mill in Coloma, California(Bancroft 32). Initially the news was kept a secret due to the risk of a massive wave of gold seekers interfering with Sutter s land and agricultural plans. However, by March of 1848, Samuel Brannan s flamboyant confirmation to the rumors created the California gold rush. Hordes of people from around the world traveled to California in search for gold and success. San Francisco s population exponentially grew from a small settlement of about 200 residents in 1846 to a city of about 36,000 by 1852 (Johnson 12 14). Status Of Forces Agreements ( Sofa ) Status of Forces Agreements (SOFA) Status of Forces Agreements (SOFAs) are often included, along with other types of military agreements, as part of a comprehensive security arrangement with a particular country. A SOFA itself does not constitute a security arrangement; rather, it establishes the rights and privileges of U.S. personnel present in a country in support of the larger security strategy, and provides some legal safeguards for service members stationed abroad. While the host nation and the U.S. sign SOFAs after extensive negotiations, many believe they are a threat to the sovereignty of the host nations and an exercise of U.S. influence in the world. So, is the sovereignty of a host nation compromised by signing these agreements? Is this a zero sum game for the countries entering the arrangements or it is more about cooperation and mutual benefit to the signatories? Long lasting SOFA s like the one between the U.S. and South Korea(ROK) seem to have endured the test of time and the domestic and international criticism that generates. • 20. Analysis Of The Longest Day As World War II was ending, the film industry saw a surge in the production of combat films depicting what unfolded in the war. These films usually displayed the fighting as either patriotic or anti war. However, some movies were produced which took a more neutral stance on the violence and focused more on historical accuracy. In The Longest Day, directed by Darryl F. Zanuck, the Allies plan and execute landings on several beaches in France such as Normandy to enter the European theater at the start of the second World War. It also shows the events of D Day from everyone s point of view, even including Nazi Germany and the French Resistance. The Longest Day asserted itself as an extremely successful film because of the more neutral approach it took on the fighting, the historical accuracy it possessed, and it s depiction of ethnic relations. Unlike most films at the time, The Longest Day did not strongly take a pro war or anti war stance. Instead it had more of an uncommitted theme which was centered around the correctness of the battles of the war. Nevertheless, there are some occasional scenes showing valor and bravery, such as the scene at Utah beach where soldiers charge. I believe Zanuck chose to make the film equitable instead of a patriotic film or an anti war film because he truly wanted to capture the battles and what he saw of the war. It means that your website might be in a very good position on top of many others for the U.S. searchers, but not in the same high position for the Canadian searchers as some pure Canadian websites on the topic might very well go ahead of you for them. Google knows a searcher s location by the IP address and automatically opens the country s version by default. Plus it may be in English or French if we talk about Canada, and again the search results will be different from each other according to the language used, and also different from what you probably see on your computer in the U.S. The same happens with searches by the country specific search engines in foreign languages. Here comes the question Should I have my own website on the foreign internet or should I post on foreign real estate portals to sell my property or properties to the foreign ... • 23. Thomas Edison And The Western Society And Mankind When looking back at the people in history the one name that always seems to stand out is Thomas Alva Edison. In this essay I will talk about Thomas Edison and his great contributions to the Western Society and mankind. Thomas Alva Edison was born February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio, son to Samuel Ogden Edison, Jr and Nancy Matthews Elliott (Frost). Edison s mother taught him the three R s because he only had three months of formal education. Eventually, Edison began to favor in independent self instruction because of his poor hearing. Edison in his younger years took to reading books to learn about the arts, the histories, and the sciences (Beals). At a very young age Edison became an adult (Beals). He had talked his parents into letting him sell newspapers, snacks, and candy at the railroad; he had also started a separate business on selling fruits and vegetables. When learning about Edison in his childhood, one can understand he was not the average kid growing up. He had a different approach to life in which he craved for knowledge and obtained a hard work ethic in his young years. In his mid teens he saved the son of the railroad stationmaster from a box cart and the grateful father taught Edison how to master Morse code and the telegraph. This allowed him to get a job as a telegraph operator (Beals). This opened the way for Edison s experimenting with technology and how to further enhance it. After working as a telegraph operator he created his first invention, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. A Humean Critique of Descartes Essay A Humean Critique of Descartes Montreal has big potholes. Lots of them. If one is to truly understand the philosophy of Hume and Descartes, one must understand what they would do with crummy roads as civil engineers in Montreal. Hume would probably repave the roads based on the success of past designs and the results of empirical data. Descartes, on the other hand, would probably leave nothing unscathed after attacking the problem with reason, scrapping the existing roadmap and re building roads with new foundations and new directions. This allegory underlines a central question of a Hume Descartes comparison: if Hume s road to knowledge needs improvement, does Descartes know where to start or where he is going? The following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Descartes used relations of ideas as the foundation for his method for acquiring knowledge. Descartes writes that disciplines which rely on composite things are doubtful, and arithmetic and geometry contain something certain and indubitable (Descartes 61). For example, 2+3=5 is a relation of ideas because 2+3 #8800;5 is a contradiction. The Discourse on Method constitutes a series of demonstrative reasonings. For Descartes, knowledge is clarity and distinctness, and demonstrative, mathematical reasoning pave the way toward this knowledge. Descartes thought that logical deduction from first principles could uncover a whole series of truths about the world. Hume rejects the use of relations of ideas to acquire knowledge and instead turns to accumulation of data. Hume writes that demonstrative reasoning fails to uncover the relation which governs our understanding of matter of fact: cause and effect. A priori reasoning which ignores experience cannot draw any inference concerning real existence and matter of fact (Hume17). This is the central proposition of the Inquiry: causes and effects are discoverable, not by reason, but by experience (17). For Hume, empiricism paves the way to knowledge and custom, the codified accumulation of knowledge, serves as the great guide of human life (28). Knowledge is simply a belief reinforced by experience a far cry from the Cartesian certainty and clarity. The collection of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Living With Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Essay Can you imagine walking down the street passing a building, and not being able to go on your way until you have counted every window in the building? How about trying to leave your house, but it takes you about one and a half to two hours to leave because you keep checking and checking to make sure the windows and doors are locked? Maybe with this new information on the cause of OCD, physicians may be able to treat it easier and with greater success. Commonality of OCD among the population of the United States does not seem substantial when compared to other illnesses. About 3.3 million people in the U.S. between the ages of 18 54 have OCD in a given year. (NIMH 2000.) This translates into roughly 2.3 percent of the population. Studies show that OCD affects women and men about equally. The ratio of men to women with OCD not being that significant in either direction to give it solely to one gender. This is unusual because most illnesses tend to favor one gender or the other. Typically OCD starts in early adolescence, but is written of by parents as abnormal or unusual behavior and the thought that the child will grow out of it. At least one third of the cases of adult OCD began in childhood. This shows if caught soon enough and treated OCD might not have been a life long battle for some clients. In 1990 the U.S. paid out a total of 8.4 million dollars for treatment of clients with OCD. This was nearly 6 percent of the total mental health bill of 148 billion dollars. (NIMH 2000.) The major reasons pinpointed were the reduced productivity, increase in number of absenteeism and turnover. In addition to its impact on economy, workplace bullying has a devastating effect on the individual employees. Bullying can bring significant damage to the victim s wellbeing, which in extreme cases leads to suicide. Regarding a research conducted by Toni Mellington, an Australian health psychologist, there is a direct negative relationship between bullying and health. The finding also suggested that the experience of merely witnessing bullying can also have a negative impact on one s health, backing up the fact that bullying affects not only the individual but the entire firm.
